fic recs masterlist pt 2
So here's a part two to my first fic rec list because I thought the first list was too long to add more or I've only read them more recently
Haikyuu!
you're all i see, you're all i need by DailyMelody: iwaoi fic where iwaizumi lies to his family that he and oikawa are dating and he slowly realizes they haven't been faking their feelings, nsfw in the last chapter
Sprout, Bloom, Grow by SpaceJammie: matsuhana and iwaoi fic from the perspective of matsukawa, this is probably my fav hq I'm keeping up with rn, the characterizations and story are so deep and well written, unfinished
Let the Light Out by UhohShouto: post canon kagehina fic where kageyama realizes he's super into hinata and they make a bet that leads to them smooching and doing much more, nsfw
what i really mean by solyn: kuroken fic where they're both sort of clueless about their feelings while everyone else around them knows they're in love, nsfw
it drives you crazy getting old by atsumusbiceps: a sakuatsu 13 Going On 30 au that's absolutely adorable, omi is in love from the beginning but atsumu thinks being angry and attracted to someone is normal
Gray in the Middle. by DeadDrabble (MisakillDatMonkey): crazy good sunaosa fic where suna is a model and osamu is his new assistant, the development of their friendship while osamu slowly gets to see the real suna and coming to see the toxicity of the fashion industry, unfinished, future nsfw
Sakusa Kiyoomi's Short and Unhelpful Guide To Falling In Love by honest_pebble: sakuatsu fic where omi asks for atsumu to kiss one drunken night and they can't seem to keep their hands off each other in the months after
i pretend you're mine, all the damn time by theglitterati: bokuaka high school fic where bokuto is nervous about his lack of experience when a girl asks him out so he asks akaashi to help him learn how to kiss, very cute and silly
sleeping with strangers by starbeyy: kagehina fic where kageyama is a lawyer that's afraid of attachment and only sleeps with strangers until he gets an extremely cute client that makes him less afraid, nsfw in later chapters
Take a hint by badreputation: sunaosa fic where suna doesn't realize osamu is trying to woo him and is just an oblivious dummy
i sing the body electric by viverella: iwaoi getting together fic where iwaizumi beings to realize he doesn't have entirely platonic feelings about his best friend
dearly departed by radiantradish: daisuga ghost au where suga is stuck in limbo while he's in a coma and daichi is a firefighter that keeps dreaming about him
Winter is Red by MeikoAtsushi: technically this is the sunaosa spin-off to their original sakuatsu fic but the premise is that osamu can see the red threads of fate that tie soulmates together but he doesn't have one and falls in love with suna anyway, this fic is fucking PAINFUL because osamu is determined to make his life miserable and try to push suna away but he can never stay away for long, nsfw
the posterior probablity by izayas: sakuatsu au where omi is a professor and atsumu is an m.d. who's taking his class and they fall in love lol
SunKissed by Paintbrushyy_Ducky98: bokuaka fic where akaashi's family's new pool boy is really cute and he sort of seems familiar... nsfw
favor from the boy you can't resist by crossbelladonna: bokuaka fic where bokuto asks akaashi to be his fake boyfriend and things go as well as you'd expect
Miles by lettersinpetals: kuroken post canon/during chapter 402.1 fic where kuroo is very aware of his love for kenma but is convinced kenma doesn't feel the same
Night Moves by fluorophoring: kuroken fic where they just keep hooking up at night without actually dating or discussing their feelings, heavy nsfw
What to Do (to You) by Mooifyourecows: iwaoi fic where matsuhana set them up on a blind date despite already being roommates and having crushes on each other, nsfw
take me the way i am by almostsophie1: kuroken fic where kuroo wants to know if kenma is willing to have sex with him just to "practice", nsfw obviously
spill my guts by wasted: bokuaka fic where akaashi is a massive pining simp and doesn't know what to do about his crush
Legend Has It by sifuhotman: sunaosa crime au??? i literally think about this fic all the time and how it's not finished, such an interesting plot with osamu as a detective and suna is a con artist who has connections to some underground crime syndicates, the last chapter posted legit made me cry, i really identify with osamu in this fic, nsfw in later chapters
Miscellaneous
Apple of Your Eye by Kattythingz: sk8 renga fic but it's if Adam became obsessed with Reki instead of Langa, highkey NUTS how good Adam's characterization is because you want to bash his skull in with a hammer
A Crown of Gems and Gold by Kattythingz: fma edling fic that's basically a rewrite of the entire series but if edling got together soon after their first meeting, the best characterization, action, and dialogue ever utilized in writing, unfinished but ongoing
Always an Angel, Never a God by oktsukki: jjk satosugu au where hidden inventory didn't end as bad as they did in canon, a lot of good healing and characterization
lights out by phollie: hxh killugon fic where killua is just very soft about gon as gon shows him around the island he grew up on
Sword of Damocles by orphan_account: mp100 terumob au fic where teruki asks mob out as a joke but he actually starts to fall for him

🩺
The chairman of Ohyama Hospital dies in the middle of the night. Hitoka is the first to get the call, but it doesn’t take long for her to let the others know.
By the time the funeral begins later that morning in a special wing of the hospital, she's sitting at a table with Kageyama and Tsukishima. Hinata is in the middle of operating, and Yamaguchi…
"What the hell?" Kageyama grumbles. "Tsukishima, did you know about this?"
Tsukishima rolls his eyes and scoffs, "Of course I did. You think I haven’t met his family? We've been friends since middle school."
"Then why the hell didn't you tell us?"
"You never asked." Tsukishima's voice is bland as he helps himself to some takoyaki. "You knew his family was loaded anyway."
"Not 'son of the chairman' loaded! I thought he was broke these days, the way he keeps mooching off you."
Tsukishima's apathetic wall cracks as he shoots Kageyama a sharp glare. "He's not asking you for anything, so why do you care?"
Kageyama glares back and his lips twist, but he says nothing. It's Hitoka who quietly pipes up, "Still…it would've been nice to hear it from him. I didn't know he was keeping a secret this big from us."
As always, Tsukishima's gaze softens a bit on the trip from Kageyama to her. "It's not that he didn't trust you guys. He just didn't know how to bring it up, and he didn't want it to change things."
"Change things how?" Kageyama grumbles. "Did he think we'd ask him for money? A promotion?"
"No." Hitoka and Kageyama jump when Yamaguchi suddenly sits at the head of their little table. He looks drained, like he's been scooped hollow with grief and exhaustion. "I don't think that would've even occurred to you, Kageyama."
"How're you doing?" Hitoka asks gently, just loud enough to cover the sound of Kageyama's grumbles.
"Been better. It's just…a lot to take care of." His smile is tired, even a little bitter. "It doesn't feel fair, having to take care of so much when the grief is so fresh."
A hum of sympathy runs around the table. There's a moment of silence, before Tsukishima peers at Yamaguchi and carefully asks, "Have you thought about what you'll do?"
"I'm not taking the position over," Yamaguchi scoffs. A wrinkle forms between his brows at the thought. "I don't care how many times Father asked, it's not happening. I'm trying to convince the board to vote for Kitagawa-san over me, but I'm not sure if it's working."
"Well, if anyone can convince them, it'd be you." Tsukishima's voice is ever-so-gentle, and the weary stress on Yamaguchi's face melts away in gratitude.
"Thanks, Tsukki."
A wry grin tugs at Kageyama's lips. When Hitoka shoots him a questioning frown, he only mouths, Simp.
🩺
"You're what?"
The entire group flinches at Hinata's shriek, his shrill notes bouncing in the empty room. Hitoka sends a silent thanks to the universe that the VIP ward is currently unoccupied.
"The late chairman's son," Tsukishima snaps, rubbing at his ear closest to Hinata. "God, King, you didn't tell him?"
"Sorry, it didn't 'come up.'"
"Okay, alright!" Yamaguchi exclaims before Tsukishima can say anything, holding his hands up as though he could physically hold back an argument. "Yeah, Hinata, he's my dad."
"But you're not taking his position?"
"No."
"Why?! You could make enough money to stop mooching off Stingy-shima!"
"Why do you two care so much about him borrowing my money?"
"I didn't become a doctor to be stuck behind a desk, taking care of administrative paperwork." The threat of bickering again subsides at Yamaguchi's words. "I do this job for the patients. They're the ones who matter to me."
Hinata immediately looks abashed, his grimace lined with understanding as much as embarrassment. It's still not enough to fully silence him. "Then…why the meeting?"
Yamaguchi brightens at the reminder, his eyes settling into the cool focus so distinct from his warm, sometimes-nervous smiles. "I spoke with Kitagawa-san regarding the VIP wards once he agreed to take the position. We managed to come to some more agreements, but he said I would be responsible for ensuring the ward is staffed with the best of the best."
"And that's…? Ow!" The sight of Kageyama's shoulder moving and Hinata rubbing at his ribs tells Hitoka all she needs to know. "Alright, I get it!"
"What if we don't want to work for the VIP?"
Yamaguchi doesn't look surprised by Tsukishima's pushback. Hitoka isn't surprised either, not once she looks to her side and sees a small grin and a challenging glint in Tsukishima's eye. "Don't be so quick to say no, Tsukki."
With that, he unclips his messenger bag and produces four packets of paper, earning a groan from Hinata and a sigh from Kageyama. "I still don't know how you two made it through med school," Tsukishima sniffs.
"Yacchan."
The unified answer brings a flush to Hitoka's cheeks, even as she shoots a small frown at the pair. "Give yourselves more credit than that!"
"Or don't," Tsukishima snorts. "They're not wrong."
"'Duties include coming to the hospital and performing procedures at the request of Party A, including during holidays and weekends,'" Kageyama reads off the second page, ignoring Tsukishima in favor of looking through the contract. "Who's Party A?"
Hitoka skims through the contract and can't help letting out a soft laugh when she finds the answer. "It's him."
The other three follow her eyeline back to Yamaguchi. "Wow," Kageyama scoffs, "what're you trying to do, make us your slaves?"
Hinata nods in furious agreement. "Yeah! Why would we agree to something like that?!"
"You'll get paid twice your annual salary."
There's a beat of silence, broken by the sound of rustling paper and clicking pens. "You should've put that on the first page!" Hitoka laughs as she signs every dotted line.
"Does anyone have an inkpad? I should sign this with my fingerprint," Tsukishima mutters.
"Hey, Yama—?"
"No."
Hitoka and Tsukishima look up in simultaneous bewilderment. "What do you mean, no?" Yamaguchi asks, affronted.
"I mean, no," Kageyama repeats, unwaveringly meeting Yamaguchi's bewildered stare.
"You too, Hinata?!"
"Yep!"
"Why?!"
"We want something besides extra pay!" Hinata declares stoutly.
Yamaguchi stares at them in silent deliberation, before offering, "You'll get your own parking spaces and private offices."
"What?!" Hitoka squeaks.
Hinata and Kageyama continue staring at Yamaguchi in a rare moment of unified silence.
"...and private labs with grant assistance."
"Yamaguchi, you traitor."
"I don't wanna do more work," Hinata tuts, looking entirely too satisfied with himself.
"Then what?"
Understanding, dread, and amusement clamor in Hitoka's chest when she sees the duo exchange a grin. "Oh, no."
"No," Tsukishima declares, "no, I already told you two, I won't do it. I'm way too busy for that, we're not in college anymore!"
"Then we won't sign!" Hinata's demeanor is casual when he leans back with his arms crossed. "It's not really a VIP ward without an obstetrician or a general surgeon, huh?"
"Shoyo, come on," Hitoka tries to gently cajole him. "We don't even have enough for a team."
"Sure we do!" he cheerfully corrects her. "We've got enough for beach!"
"Where the hell—?"
"Hinata found a gym in the city with indoor beach courts." Kageyama's expression finally cracks with a smug grin at Tsukishima. The way Hinata puffs out his chest with pride would be sweet, if Hitoka couldn't easily read the smug triumph in his warm eyes.
Yamaguchi is silent the whole time, eyes flickering between Hinata and Kageyama. He only speaks up after Kageyama mentions the gym. "It's just for fun, right?"
Hinata blinks. "Huh?"
"You want to do this just for fun? No tournaments or championships or any of that?"
"Oh! Right!" Hinata's smile could rival the sun. "We just wanna play volleyball again and spend more time with you guys!"
"But mostly play volleyball," Kageyama adds.
"So if we agree to play volleyball, you both will sign the contracts and work for the VIP wards?"
"Yep!"
Yamaguchi nods slowly, almost setting a beat to the gradual descent of horror over Tsukishima's face. "Yamaguchi…Tadashi, don't you dare."
"...Fine."
Hinata whoops with triumph, and Kageyama wears a broad grin that conveys the same amount of excitement. Tsukishima, on the other hand, shoots to his feet and drops his pen onto his contract with a muffled clatter. "No, no way," he declares, "I gave them my answer and I meant it! I don't have time, and even if I did, I wouldn't want to spend it diving into the sand with these two!"
"We're right here," Kageyama reminds him, grin unwavering even under Tsukishima's withering glare.
"You two can go choke on sand together, but leave me out of it."
With that, Tsukishima storms out of the room. Hinata chases him to the door, where he shouts behind him, "We don't need you anyway! Yacchan can play with Yamaguchi!"
"Um," Hitoka pipes up, trying and failing to keep her voice from shaking with suppressed laughter, "if I have to play instead of referee, I don't think it's fair for you and Kageyama to be on a team together."
It's a little sweet, the way both Hinata and Kageyama's faces fall. "...Fine," Kageyama sighs. "I'll play with Yamaguchi."
Hinata forces his face into a bright smile that Hitoka can see straight through. "You'll be a beach pro before you know it!"
Ah, well. She'll just wait until later to tease him about ruining his clear plans to get closer to Kageyama and badly matchmake Yamaguchi and Tsukishima.
🩺
That weekend, ahead of their first set, Kageyama and Hinata's receiving lessons for Hitoka are interrupted by Yamaguchi's arrival. To everyone's shock, he's not alone.
"What're you doing here?!" Hinata squawks, pointing an accusatory finger at Tsukishima's beetred, glowering face.
"Ah, Tsukki was easy to convince," Yamaguchi chuckles, slinging an arm around Tsukishima's shoulders and tugging him down the small difference in their heights. "He just needed a reminder of all the fun we had in Hawaii."
"...Shut up, Yamaguchi."

{ a kagehina story in The Hunger Games + The Darkest Mind/BNHA/mutant + my own spinoff AU = afreakinginconsistentmess #someonestopmeplease}
.
.
—
Every kids living in the hell called The Districts were gifted. But Shouyou, he was painfully normal. Giftless.
—
.
.
“The reaping is tomorrow, how are you doing Shouyou?” Kouji asked him as he plopped down in front of his batch of carefully dried and bleached rags. Shouyou lifted his head up and shrugged at his friend. “I'm doing fine, I guess,” He replied. Kouji sighed as he picked up a bucket of still wet linens and dried them to add to Shouyou's batch. “Thanks!” Shouyou brightened up. Bleaching rags was a boring job but Shouyou needed to fill up his quota if he wanted his little sister to eat something other than acorns. Natsu was a good kid. She wouldn't complain about whatever edible things Shouyou could bring to their table, but Shouyou loved his sister very much, and whenever the situation allowed him to do so he would try his best to give the best for her. In this situation it was proper meals in exchange of tedious labor. Shouyou needed at least 10 buckets for one complete set of bento. 5 more to go now.
“Don’t you worry? I meant–” Kouji leaned to whisper, “your point if calculated will be the top of the bracket tonight. Your chance to get pick is like 70% bigger than others.”
Shouyou thought about their last conversation in the woods. Kouji had done a chart and calculate every kids they known in their district and their possible points on the bracket by August 17–that is today. Shouyo then told him the favour he'd had asked a month ago when Natsu had gotten high fever. She—they, really needed the medicine badly. Kouji had looked at him despairingly after that. They both knew Shouyou was doomed.
Shouyou was worried, terrified even. Of course he was. How could he not when he was the only kid in their district with no gift? In the event where he got himself selected as champion of District 12 he'd most certainly not come out of the game alive.
Except, Shouyou thought with determination, he might not.
No one knows this, not even his closest friends, but Shouyou had been practicing since he was 11 after he knew for certain he was one of the rare cases of kids without gifts. Usually children born in The Districts have their gift showed by the age of 5 to 8. Some late bloomers probably had them by the age of 10 but never past it. Shouyou was devastated when his gift never showed. How could he protect his sister when he was weak and helpless? And what if the once-in-four-years reaping came and he finally at age for selection? What if he got picked and he left his sister alone with a possibility of never coming back? So that's why at his 11th birthday he went to the forbidden forest and started practicing by himself. He would went hunting wild animals, evaded the carnivorous ones without getting into bloodied encounters, outsmart the more cunning beasts, learned to differentiate which plants poisoned and which were edible, learned to produce something out of nothing. He was not completely helpless, damn it. His late mother was a hunter herself and long before she died she had taught him everything she knew about the forest—and surely surviving the most dangerous forest in the world meant something, right? He could survived the game. He would. Maybe he won't be able to attack anyone, much less kill them in combat, but he was confident he could stay alive, it’s not like there was any other choice.
It’s a survival game, if he got picked then all he needed to do was to survive the one month hell.
“–you? Shouyou!”
“I'm sorry, what?” Shouyou snapped out of his thoughts when he felt Kouji waved his hand dangerously close to his eyes. Kouji frowned. “You're so out of it this morning,” he said instead.
“Izumi told me that he'd called you on your way here and you didn't even spare him a glance.”
Shouyou just smiled sheepishly and said he was in a hurry since the bento he wanted to buy was only available until noon.
“I know.” Kouji playfully shoved his shoulder. “That's why I'm here to help you. Wouldn't want to disappoint Natsu now, would we?”
“Nope!” He grinned.
“Besides, I know that I've been harassing you with dumb question now. Of course you're worried! That's why you're quieter than usual–than ever, I meant.” the brunette shrugged. “But if I know half things about you it's that you won't let anything bad happened to Natsu. In the event that the worst thing do in fact, come true, you'll do your best.” Kouji held his hand and made him look at his friend in the eyes. Shouyou saw hope and worry and wishful confidence in Kouji's face.
“You're stronger than anyone when the most important thing on stake, you know?” Shouyou knew. “You'll be okay.” He hoped so.

I was outlining a new fic idea over FaceTime with my best friend and the ao3 tag she comes up with to describe it was “iwaoi gain self actualization through helping kagehina” and god, what a line!! this is deeply incoherent but the complexities and nuance contained in kagehina and iwaoi as parallels and foils (as individual characters and relationships) really are the driving force of my brain rot.
we have the setter spiker connection, of course, and the two seijoh karasuno matches really drive it home. Oikawa and Tobio comment on the similarities themselves (when backed into a corner they’ll always set to their partner!! that’s why they can read each other so well! also iwaoi’s reaction to “as long as I’m here, you’re invincible is peak, ok) and then later we have the time skip with Oikawa and Hinata both going abroad to Argentina and Brazil to further develop their skills. we have Oikawa and Hinata being drawn together through their hunger for volleyball, the struggles of being alone in a foreign country, and their connection to Tobio as forces that challenge and better him (they are his two biggest influences after all!!). they forge their own independent relationship on that beach and it’s equal parts and hilarious.
Iwa’s role in this is so fascinating as well because there’s so much there that’s hinted at. I could write volumes on iwaoi but I love love love the little glimpses we see about his relationship with Tobio—aka I make fanon mountains out of canon molehills. He’s a good senpai!!! We all know about That Scene™️ and how he defends Tobio; Tobio, hilariously, seems to only remember Iwa’s declaration of “the best team of six wins” and not much before that. Tobio respects him so much and thinks he’s cool! Iwa shakes his hand, ever gracious in defeat when they play for the second time. They lovingly insult and throw their best friends across the room in the same way (am I saying that Iwaoi greatly informed how Tobio views volleyball and relationships? Yes. Come on now, they must have spent a lot of time in the kitagawa gym together before and after practice. He chases after them and there’s that one panel of iwaoi graduating from kitagawa that I’m pretty sure is included in tobio’s flashbacks/backstory in the blackadler match). Who else can relate to Tobio’s mixed feelings about Brazil arc but Iwa? There’s also the fun bonus of Iwa being solely in Tobio’s corner at this point; tobio and shoyou share most of the same friends which could lead to a potential conflict of interest (God help yacchan, tadashi, tsukki, and suga when these morons argue) but tobio can reliably confide in Iwa without it getting back to Shoyou. the possibilities of iwakage friendship/mentorship are endless and I’m here to scream about it, whether it on the Japan national team, middle school, or during the time skip. I also think the dynamic between Iwa, Tobio, and Oikawa is so interesting (jealousy, affection, respect, resentment, oh my) and when you throw Hinata in the mix it’s even more fun.
I have some more vague thoughts on Hinata and Iwa as parallels that go into more angsty territory, particularly about self-worth and how the seijoh karasuno matches mirror each other in the last point. my boys are sad!! they couldn’t make the last point count!! their volleyball careers are different yet similar as they take unconventional paths to fulfill this promises to their respective setter soulmate. in a way, we have kagehina achieving what iwaoi was unable to, which is part of the reason I think kagehina getting together first is an excellent catalyst for iwaoi self reflection time. we have kagehina getting to nationals together and standing on the world stage side by side at the Olympics. Iwaoi are on opposite ends of the court, separated but still connected nonetheless.
I’ll probably add more to this as I write more of my fic/reread the manga and rewatch the anime, but TLDR; kagehina and iwaoi are my favorite relationships in haikyuu and they’re constantly rattling around in my noggin in the worst game of pinball ever.

Ok 👌 nice again kagehina female reader pt.2!👏😃
Look at them. LOOK! Ok but fr fr
Fluff
Hinata lives for PDA we can all agree right? If he’s feeling it he’ll kiss you, it’s so random he kissed you and Kageyama. In the middle of a McDonald’s. In public. Let’s just say Kageyama wears his mask now😁
Kageyama doesn’t like much PDA because once Hinata kissed him for too long he could not breath oml😭
You have to cook or else your house is on fire Kageyama doesn’t even know how to cook and Hinata tried to bake it turned out surprisingly good! 👍 you do most of the cooking tho, the most they do is cut and wash vegetables, fruits, etc they make it up with setting the table!😁
You burned your hand once because Kageyama and Hinata were running around the house and they bumbed you and they were crying on your hand and when you rapped it up they apologized the whole week, they even tried to cook and you appreciated the offer, not the food tho
Every Christmas Kageyama is in heaven why? Decorating mistletoes you get on his shoulders and sit but your trying to reach that your shuffling your legs and thighs basically choking him he’s just blushing, if you ask him if he’s ok he’ll be like: “yup, just fine!” Hinata was super jealous until you crushed him when he was between your legs and you were watching maybe something competitive or just happy your favorite character is still alive in your show.
Sexual
Your a bottom but you tried to top Hinata and ride him you successfully made him come first. He never ever recovered from that
Kageyama never new how to give you such a hickey but he bites just fine, once you started bleeding and it was great, he was so worried😭
Hinata and Kageyama double teaming they LOVE eating you out your juices and all Hinata uses his tongue every time but Kageyama fingers you somtimes👌
They split roast you for the first time and oml.. you were gone
moaning through your hand, Kageyama takes your hand of tho “c’mon now honey.. you know I’d love to hear you yell my name..”
Hinata takes your hand of your mouth and pins them to the headboard “Fuck.. please please just let me hear your lovely moans” “fuck.. so good for me”
Ok giving them head is all you need to dominate them edging them having them moan beggin you to let them come
Lactation kink🙂
Your not pregnant but Kageyama and Hinata love your chest and they want to try and get milk out of it so you get a pump and a few weeks later it’s out, your chest is leaking through your shirt, oml they. Go. Crazy always sucking the hell out of them and since it’s 2 of them, they don’t switch and your chest is hurting in pleasure, you have to pull them of, I kid you not in sync “we’re not done yet!!” “ I can’t take much more please..” you whimper “your so sweet tho” Hinata says “ yeah just five more minutes!” Kageyama says “wait 10!” He says again “yea please!” Hinata says!with puppy dog eyes you sigh and let them continue, for way more then 10 minutes, you moaning has them hooked on you and they start undoing your pants for that pretty clit of yours
Oml this is the last part🙂bye tananoya or kenhina next🙂

↬ WHAT COULD NEVER BE PT. 2
↬ PAIRINGS: Atsumu x f!reader (ft Bokuto)
↬ WARNINGS: sad shit, horrible writing (I feel like I botched this) kagehina mention, cheating, alcohol mention, reversed unrequited love. !! UNEDITED!!
↬ SUMMARY: honorable mention goes to @multi-fandom-fanfic for giving me this idea in the comment section of the first part it’s not exactly years later but it’s still some time later
↬ A/N: I totally did not cry while writing this pft
↬ WC: | 1.5K |
↬ TAG(S): @erinoikawa @fromdelos
“What does she have that I don’t” the amount of times that, that sentence had played over in my head was starting to exhaust me. Remembering the desperation in my voice caused my nose to scrunch up in a cringe until I shook the thoughts out of my head. Walking away from bokuto that night had been the second hardest thing I’d ever had to do in my life so far.
Weeks and weeks later I’d still had the ache in my chest the tears still welled up in my eyes whenever I thought about him with her, but these tears never fell. I hadn’t fully cried over him in weeks and I patted myself on the back for that. I could feel myself starting to move on. To forget.
I still cheered for the MSBY Black Jackals, but I had started online college to get my fashion degree. I’d always had a dream to work for a big corporation like vogue. Things in my life were finally starting to look up, and Miya Atsumu had taken the place that bokuto had left open that night.
He was my support system. Coddling me when he could in the weeks following bokutos wedding. I was unaware of his feelings. Oblivious at first. Until I started to notice the lingering touches he left, and although I was worried about hurting him, it excited me.

Two years had passed since the night I realized I would never feel my best friends embrace they way I craved. Two years, and now I craved a different persons embrace. The person I’d been dating for a year now, and in the second year of the two years I’d spent healing I’d slowly started mending my friendship with Bokuto. Of course I’d spoken to atsumu about it, and he’d shared his concerns but I was serious about the blonde man who’d unexpectedly stolen my heart.
I had been so caught up in Miya Atsumu it was like highschool all over again. He made me feel alive, and I grounded him when he felt like he was drifting away. The separation from his twin took a harder toll on him than he ever would have realized. So being the loving girlfriend I was I’d organized a night out with the Jackals; Kotaro and koyuki, Kiyoomi, Hinata and kageyama me and Atsumu, and Osamu and his girlfriend. It would be the first time we would all be together since the wedding.
I was nervous and this night would be the start of something out of anyone’s control. It started off normal Osamu and Atsumu hugging and exchanging pleasantries before they would start bickering and trying to compete over something stupid during dinner.
Shy kageyama who had been so stiff at the wedding seemed to be in his element with his arm draped over hinata’s shoulders while he whispered in his ear. The ginger smiling lovingly at his fiancé and it got me thinking about marrying Atsumu. It sparked a tsunami of feeling throughout my body and I found myself smiling to myself before, Cadence —osamu’s stunning girlfriend from the states— bumped my shoulder with hers and smirked at me.
“I’m glad you came up with this idea. Samu was starting to get all pissy about not being able to see his brother.” I smiled sheepishly and blushed as I shook my hand, “it was nothing tsumu was getting the same way and I really wanted to meet you so it was a win win.” She smiled and I caught bokuto looking at me from across the table. The chair next to him empty.
I smiled and leaned across the table, “hey bo! Where’s the missus?” His smile faltered slightly and if I wasn’t so good at reading bokuto I would have missed it entirely but I didn’t, “oh she had to stay late in the office tonight so she couldn’t come.” I gave him a sympathetic smile and he shrugged before the waiter came to our table and I turned to Atsumu.
Later on in the night I had gotten pretty tipsy the champagne finally hitting me, and I smiled lazily at Atsumu, adoration in my eyes and he smirked, “s’the alcohol finally getting to ya pretty girl?” He asked and I nodded before putting my forhead on his upper arm and sighing.
He moves to stand up taking a glass and a knife with him, and my eyes widen in horror over what he’s about to do. He clinks the knife on the glass a bit to carelessly and it breaks, “ah!! tsumu ya moron what the hell are ya doin?” Osamu asks standing up abruptly to avoid the liquid as a waiter rushes over to clean up the mess.
Atsumu smiles and turns to the waiter and apologizes before looking over the table at our friends, “well I just wanted ta toast ta my amazing girlfriend who I would not have if it weren’t for that idiot right there,” I facepalm as he points at bokuto and bokuto winces slightly before looking at me pained and I mouth a sorry to him.
“So thank ya buddy cause if ya weren’t oblivious I would never have gotten such an amazing partner who loves me so much that she brought my annoying little brother out here to see me.” I hear Osamu groan and roll his eyes.
“you’re only three minutes older than me ya troll.” Atsumu smiles patronizingly at osamu, “shut yer trap samu yer elder is talkin'.” Everyone laughs at that and he finally sits down before I hit his shoulder and smile at him slightly, “you’re an idiot tsum-tsum” he shrugs, “but I’m yer idiot right y/n?” And then he plants a big sloppy kiss on my cheek and I squeal in disgust.
The amount of happiness and joy coursing through my body had been missed. I was finally over the one person I thought I would need to live, and with the person I was destined for. I finally had what bokuto had. I couldn’t be happier.
After that night things between me and bokuto were tense for awhile. I brushed it off as he thought maybe I was still hung up on him. Oh how I couldn’t have been more wrong. I had no idea the anger and jealousy that was bubbling up under bokutos skin, and the most frustrating part of all of the bullshit that was going on, was he didn’t understand why he felt like this. He was happily married. I mean as happily married as one person could be right?
It only got worse though when two weeks later Miya fucking Atsumu was calling him asking for his help to propose to his best friend. He was annoyed and irritated and his wife was coming home at two in the morning smelling different than when she had left. It was not a happy time for him, but he obliged telling him about how the beach would be the most perfect place, and to make sure that he does it at night.
He also added in that he should create a pathway lit by fairy lights because I would simply die over it, and how I didn’t like diamonds so make sure it wasn’t a cliche ass diamond.
And that’s how I found myself on the beach my heart had completely broke on, a week later in front of the man I love as he kneeled with a gorgeous jeweled ring in a black velvet box in his hands.
“Will you y/n y/l/n make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” The tears collecting in my eyes were the happiest tears I’d ever cried in my life as I knelt down and hugged him around his neck, “yes yes!! Yes! Of course I will tsumu”
We hadn’t seen bokuto in the distance watching us with tears in his eyes as he realized what he’d lost. As he wished he could go back in time and do it all over. Do things differently.
Maybe he would have let you keep his jacket on in that storage supply closet. Maybe he should have asked you to get boba instead of koyuki, maybe he should have realized sooner he was projecting onto koyuki because he was scared to love his best friend the way he knew you loved him.
So as he stared at the RSVP card in his hands with yours and Atsumu’s names on it in fancy handwriting. He wonders if this is how you felt when you had gotten his card with koyuki, he wonders if you had felt as lost and hopeless, and torn between wanting you to be happy and also wanting you to be with him instead. So as he swallowed the same lump you had swallowed two almost three years ago he realized that this was some kind of sick karma.
He felt partially responsible for the mess that this had become. You and him were never meant to be.

an absolutely massive Haikyuu!! fic rec pt. 3
KageHina AND KuroKen because I’m very picky with these ships so there’s not a lot :/
KageHina:
The Cure for You (is You), by tsunderei (6k. T. canonverse)
Brooo...cute shit
Kageyama knew they would separate after graduation. He knew he was going to miss Hinata. He just didn’t know he’d still be here, three years later, nursing an old crush that now seems more or less ruined by time and distance and stupidity.
discovering the smile of one kageyama tobio, by emleewrites (8k. T. canonverse)
Innocence, pure innocence. Those are synonyms, shut up.
Kageyama blinks once before a grin of his own spreads over his face. Shouyou’s breath halts in his lungs at the sight, and he wills for time to stop, just so he can drink it in. He sees it sometimes, when they’re playing - Kageyama’s fierce smile when they pull a combo off just right, when they show their opponents how possible the impossible can really be. But then there’s another serve, another rally, and the moment is gone.
'Shame', Shouyou thinks to himself, as he lets his eyes roam over Kageyama’s stupidly happy face, taking in the creases that are from joy rather than frowning, for a change. 'It’s a really nice smile.'
-
In which it's their third, and final, year in high school and Hinata has only one goal: to make Kageyama smile outside of volleyball.
room to grow, by Mysecretfanmoments (6k. T. canonverse)
Third year Kageyama is considerate, careful, doesn't grab Hinata's hair. Hinata's still trying to figure out how he feels about it.
where the night goes, by bigspoonnoya (20k. M. canon-divergence)
This one is very popular, and for good reason! It's beautiful.
When their bond loses the immediate context of volleyball, they're left to consider why it's still so vital and important.
Meeting again, by chance, six years later.
thirty-three days of mist and mountains, by tinygumdrops (curryramyeon) (36k. T. canon-divergence)
Kageyama, that’s a lot of paper, sir. I sure hope you recycle, god damn.
Tobio runs by himself every day. Even though he can't shake off that awful feeling that something's closing in on him, he still does it. It's habit now.
When he gets a phone call that Hinata Shouyou is thinking of coming to Italy, Tobio feels like he has to run even faster.
(Or: Tobio has a month to prepare himself before his high school rival comes to visit him. They haven't spoken to each other for two years, and Tobio can't even remember what food Hinata likes. He's got a lot to think about.)
soft serve, by tothemoon (9k words. T. canonverse):
Alternatively, the fic that made me immediately go out and buy a pint of ice cream after reading. So cute and fluffy! We’ve got a socially awkward Kageyama and, if I may, a little bit of a subdued Hinata. Cute, cute, cute. Want ice cream.
"I'm gonna run you over with this truck," Kageyama says, with only half of his usual conviction.
(Because frankly, he's still flabbergasted that Hinata would remember his favorite flavor.)
Or, in which Kageyama and Hinata drive an ice cream truck for a week, the former struggles with a crush, and the latter dares to eat the popsicles without paying.
Fake it, Make it, by zadderlee (50k words. T. canonverse. Unfinished):
Ah yes, the classic fake dating that causes real feelings to arise. Here for the trope, will always be here for the trope. It is an unfinished fic, but it's still worth the read. Actually hilarious and Suga had me rolling. I take back what I said about only feeling safe alone with Iwa, I’d feel safe with Suga (lets be honest, with almost all of the Haikyuu boys. But not Atsumu. Rat bitch (I love him so much).
"Because Kageyama is already dating someone!"
"Really? Who?"
“Me!” Hinata shouts suddenly, grabbing Kageyama’s hand as an afterthought and grinning triumphantly, like he’s somehow missed the implications of what he’s just done. Kageyama is going to kill him.
touch, by buu (3k. T. canonverse)
Pure, young love. COVID-19 doesn’t exist yet. (WASH YOUR HANDS, DAMMIT)
Hinata doesn't notice it at first, really. It's small things, natural things, like when they sit together at lunch and Hinata ends up hooking his ankle over Kageyama's and he doesn't move away; in fact, he seems to not notice it, and go on eating his lunch like nothing's different.
we are the sparks that never fade, by thecivilunrest (4k. T. injury au)
A Kageyama injury fic and I never realized how painful that could be until I read this work.
The first thing Hinata tells him after seven years is, “Toss to me.”
confession, by buu (3k. T. canonverse)
Just a really short, sweet school-boy love fic.
“You've been an ass to me for three weeks!” Hinata blurts, and finally the weight of it is pushing down on him. He's been trying to ignore it, telling himself it's just Kageyama being Kageyama, but this isn't like him, this is weird, and Hinata hates it. He's miserable.
kisses, by buu (3k. T. canonverse)
So many smooches! So pure!
There's a blur and Hinata remembers warm lips, surprisingly soft from someone who frowns all the time, and Kageyama's terrified face when he pulls back, and the electricity running through Hinata's entire body, heating his cheeks to match Kageyama's.
Kissing, it turns out, is as good as volleyball.
Never More Cruel, by dawnstruck (3k. T. canonverse)
How have you not read this?? I know you haven't, so read it and smoosh in sweetness with me.
Hinata starts fading away from him, and Kageyama tells himself that he doesn't mind.
Kuroken:
teach me the way home, by icespyders (22k. T. canonverse)
WHY DOESN'T THIS HAVE MORE HITS??
Don’t go far off, not even for a day, because —
because — I don’t know how to say it: a day is long
and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
when the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.
Kuroo and Kenma grow up in transit.
Good Calls, MemeKonHQ (MemeKonYA) (4k. T. canonverse)
Captain Kenma, captain Kenma!
His first morning practice as a third year starts with a blur of gray and red moving fast towards him on his peripheral vision the moment he sets foot inside the gym, and then a pair of lanky arms gracelessly falling over him as Lev contorts himself in all sorts of ways to properly envelop him like some sort of octopus.
“Kenma-san!” He basically screams, thankfully far away enough from his sensitive ears that it doesn’t outright hurt. Lev puts his chin over the crown of his head and Kenma sighs, “Kenma-san! I am so happy! Some of the other second years thought you would bail on us! But you didn’t! Now you can keep tossing to me.”
(Or: Kenma's third year. Or part of it.)
even if you're ahead for a bit, i will catch up, by ghostpot (4k. G. canonverse)
Kuroo sticking to it.
Kuroo first confesses when they're sticky-fingered, wide-eyed kids, and subsequently every day after that. Kenma takes a while to come around.
the golden route, by astersandstuff (12k. T. canonverse/road trip au)
Why is it so hard to find good kuroken fics? This is so good, though. Kenma and Kuroo in a van, on the road, kisses, and mackerel pike.
“It’s a three-and-a-half hour walk,” Kenma points out, on the subject of the cat’s home in a town inside Ama District. “Why aren’t we taking the train?”
“That cancels out the point of a road trip,” Kuroo argues.
“Railroads are roads.”
“We’re currently leading a frugal existence.”
-
Or, in which two childhood friends go on a road trip and Kenma builds up a quest.
love's not the way to treat a friend, by girltalk (8k. T. canonverse/post-canon)
How sweet! To be each other’s life lines. Drunk Bokuto is the best boy.
There’s really nothing quite as revelatory as the silent minutes spent in bed during the aftermath of a wet dream involving you and your high-school best friend.
the walk home, by skiecas (42k. T. canonverse)
Gorgeous. Author writes kurokens dynamic growing childhood through adulthood absolutely wonderfully.
Kenma reluctantly spoons vanilla into his mouth, watching the sun set. And when everything is dusted in stripes of pale orange and purple and gold, he glances at Kuroo’s profile muddled in the shadows of the descending sun, and wonders whether he had somehow accidentally made friends with an impressive sort of boy. The ice-cream melted under his thumb feels maddeningly sticky, like he’ll never wash it away thoroughly enough and it would leave its mark wherever he touched before he could.
Kenma has never really thought of anyone as good-looking before, never really cared enough about these things to notice them. But Kuroo is objectively so, in this light, in this angle—maybe all the time.
(A Kuroo and Kenma life story, told in five acts).

haikyuu ship headcanons!!!
kagehina
• everyone is really confused when they get together but like not surprised?
• they’re constantly on eachother
• like when they’re alone they’re always cuddling or hinata is sitting on top of kageyama. when they’re in public hinata sits on kags lap or makes kags give him piggyback rides
• one time during a game kageyama yelled hinatas name and grabbed his shirt and everyone thought they were gonna fight but he just goes “nice kill!” and gives him a kiss before going back to playing
• they’re both the ceo’s of “my bf can beat your ass”
• stupid teenage boys, like they do things that are so awkward bc they’re still weird teenagers
• they share one braincell, always have, always will
• kageyama is actually really good with hinatas sister and won’t admit it but loves little kids, hinata finds it adorable
• “you’d be a great dad kageyama, we should have kids!” “...how would that work? i can’t get you pregnant...right???”
tsukkiyama
• everyone thinks that they’re dating before they start actually dating
• “oh yeah she really likes tsukishima but we know you’re dating him so” “i’m not though???”
• once they’ve let everyone know that they aren’t dating a bunch of girls start asking tsukishima out, he declines all of them
• they end up getting together like a month later, it only took that long bc yamaguchi was too nervous to make a move and tsukki didn’t think that yams liked him back
• tsukki’s not too crazy about pda so they don’t go any farther than holding hands when they walk home and quick kisses on the cheek once in a while
• when they’re alone is another story
• these boys have liked eachother since they were like 11 so they have a lot to make up for
• one time akiteru walked in on them in the middle of them making up, shirts off, yams hands down tsukki’s pants and screamed
• tsukki refused to eat dinner if his brother was there for like a week
• since they’re so anti-pda whenever hinata, noya, or tanaka catches them doing anything they don’t stop mentioning it for the rest of the day
• they definitely get married when they’re 20 and don’t tell anyone
daisuga
• started dating in their second year
• after they started dating noya kept calling them mom and dad and it stuck
• “i’m not your dad”
• “you can’t call me mom if you don’t listen to me when i put you in time out”
• suga gets daichi a “kiss the cook” apron
• whenever they kiss in front of the team someone always yells “ewww mom and dad are kissing!!”
• once hinata and noya we’re doing somthing stupid and suga said that he’d record it for them. tsukki was extra annoyed at hinata that week so he showed daichi and they got in trouble. suga is like trying not to laugh and daichi just like “babe, did you know about this” and suga just activated his puppy dog eyes and is like “no! i can’t believe they’d do that
• daichi always says no when the rest of the team wants to do somthing stupid and suga just gives them the thumbs up behind his back
• they’re just really cute and have such a mom/dad dynamic
iwaoi
• girls constantly flirt with oikawa and he’s just like “sorry ladies, i’m taken”
• everyone’s trying to figure out who the lucky girl is untill one day oikawa goes “hey baby!” and runs over to iwaizumi and gives him a kiss
• “we shouldn’t known, pretty boys like that always end up being gay”
• oikawa swears that iwaizumi is nice to him when they’re alone
• iwa can go from “shittykawa can you shut the fuck up?!” to “hey honey, you know you’re really cute when you do that” and vise versa, real quick
• “iwa-chan, let me sit on your lap!” “no” “baby pleaseee” “that’s not going to work” “pleaseeee” “get your hand off of my dick, we’re in public asshole”
• after they lose to karasuno, iwa makes oikawa sleep over at his house bc hes been crying all day
• iwaizumi has to excuse himself to the bathroom to cry bc he doesn’t want oikawa to see him cry
• they really do care about eachother a lot even though iwaizumi doesn’t show it often
• oikawa refers to iwa as his boyfriend and he’s like “shut up you’re so annoying but still ends up blushing
bokuaka
• these boys are in l o v e
• you know in coming of age movies when there’s always that one couple that everyone admires? that’s them, minus the problems that those couples always have
• a month after they started dating bokuto tells kuroo “i’m gonna marry him” and kuroo says that he doesn’t doubt it
• whenever bokuto gets into a mood he always asks to talk to akaashi
• everyone is in love with akaashi and while bokuto is jealous he doesn’t blame them
• “there’s so many other people as school that you could date! you deserve someone like them...why don’t you like any of them?” “because bokuto-san, they’re not you...i love you and you only” “...akaashi, i’m gonna cry!!!i love you too!!”
• bokuto always has a hand on akaashi’s waist (sometimes his ass when he wants to be annoying)
• bokuto refuses to leave until akaashi kisses him goodbye
• “bokuto-san, you’re gonna be late for class” “pleaseeeeee just a kiss on the cheek” “go to class, love. there’s people around and i don’t want to bother them”
kuroken
• they don’t really know when they started dating, it just kinda happened?
• like one day someone was like “are you too dating?” and they were like “huh, i guess so”
• “kuroo, i love you...but not as much as animal crossing. leave me alone” kuroo desides to buy him stuff for his gaming set up in hopes of winning him over. it works.
• they’ve been friends for so long that getting into a relationship was hard but also easy. they didn’t want to ruin anything but also they already had the bond.
• when they’re older and kenma is a youtuber or whatever kuroo makes an appearance once and all the comments are thirsting over him and he’s just like “oh, that’s my boyfriend. you probably won’t see him much but yeah” and everyone’s like ??????boyfriend???? but ends up loving them and they always ask to see more of kuroo

Aquarium Date Fic !! Kagehina, but kag!asd. Kageyama pov. 2k words, oneshot. Tw : Sensory Overload! (it's present throughout the whole fic) Made partially for @spixi and partially so i could prove to myself that i can If there's a typo no there isnt <3 If you are an IRL this post doesn't exist <3
I typed out my message and pressed send, throwing my phone onto my bed.
Maybe I should go grab a snack or something... I think to myself, when I suddenly hear my phone buzzing against my pillow, and I dive to grab it. He replied to my message. That was fast.
Me : Hey we should go to the aquarium tomorrow.
Hinata : Okay :D sounds good 2 me!
Quickly, with my face quickly going beet red, I drop my phone and go to the kitchen to grab something to stuff my face with. I'm shaking, but as long as I walk quietly, I doubt my family will notice I'm even out of my room.
How should I reply? A thumbs up might be good, but it might be too cold. Any other reply is probably too much... Whatever. I'll go with the thumbs up.
I head back into my room and pick up my phone, typing a thumbs up emoji before covering my face again.
F/ck, I need to come up with something to wear, don't I..?
---
I arrive at the train station, feeling like I probably packed too much. I brought a backpack with an extra phone battery, 2 charging cables, (because Hinata has an apple phone,) and a bunch of snacks, as well as a water bottle.
Did I put on deodorant today??? I can't tell... If so, I'm probably already sweating through it. I start to feel sick to my stomach, but I don't have time to finish that thought when I spot Hinata walking in from a distance. He seems to be wearing basketball shorts and a t-shirt, and suddenly I feel overdressed in my jeans.
"Hey! Don't worry, I already bought my train ticket. You ready to go?" He asked while walking up to me. He didn't bring as much as a backpack, and I'm suddenly relieved that I brought so much.
"Yeah. It's coming in 2 minutes. I half expected you to be late." I stated, before realizing what I said. Sh/t! That was rude, wasn't it? I have to be nicer. Ugh. Hinata punctures my worries with a laugh.
"I'm not late that often, am I?" He states. This makes me feel a little worse about my comment.
"Hm. Just often enough." I state, carefully picking my words. I can't backtrack now, but I can try to redirect my speech to seem less biting.
"You only say I'm late because of last time!" He keeps laughing, keeping the mood light. I wish I could speak as easily as him.
"And possibly the time before that?" I reply. This is probably what he wants me to say.
"Shhhhh. What matters is I got here on time AND I have my ticket ready. Don't worry, I also brought enough for the aquarium ticket too!" He states, smiling. His smile is adorable, almost cute enough to distract me from what he just said.
"Oh, I was planning on paying for that." I reply without thinking.
"Ehh? Do you owe me or something? Should I be asking you for money?"
"No, no. I just thought...?" I'm really confused now. I was the one who asked HIM out, right? He knows how these things usually go, right? Maybe he just doesn't know...
"By the way, where are the others? I thought they would have arrived by now."
The... others? What others? The team??? This is a date, right? Wait...
I DIDN'T TELL HIM. I DIDN'T TELL HIM THAT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A DATE. F/CK.
"I didn't invite them." I respond, my subconscious taking care of what my brain is trying to catch up to.
"You really find them that annoying? I know Tsukki and Yamaguchi can be a bit much sometimes but...?" Confusion flashes across Hinata's face.
"I just wanted to hang out with you. Is that a crime?" I answered before my brain could filter out that last comment. It would be useful in getting him to stop pushing, but it's far too rude for a date. Not that Hinata knows that last part anyway. I wish I could take my words back.
"You should be honored that I said yes in the first place." Hinata teases, my face turning red.
If only he knew what he said yes to.
---
Hinata and I managed to keep from fighting on the 30 minute train ride, which was a feat in and of itself.
I can't ruin this date.
"Hey, Kageyama? It looks like there is a student discount, and it also seems like there is a discount for groups. What do you think would be cheaper?" Hinata elbowed me, bringing me back into focus. I look up. He and I are both equally sh/t at math.
"Uh... Let's do the group discount? I'll pay for it. You can pay me back later." As if I'd let him do that. Hinata bought my excuse though.
"Okay! I can buy you lunch or something." He quickly walked up to the desk, and I followed him. "Can we have 2 tickets?"
Wait. Wasn't I supposed to buy them? If I was the one paying, aren't I supposed to ask? Is Hinata planning on paying???
"Oh, sorry, He'll be paying!" Hinata stated, gesturing towards me.
"Yes. Here's the cash." I quickly press down the bills that were almost getting damp from stress. I had already looked online at ticket prices, and made sure to set aside the perfect amount of money for two tickets in my pockets.
"Great! Let's head inside!" Hinata grabs the tickets, holding mine for me. We go up to the metal detector and I get my bag checked. Hinata, possibly because he has my ticket, or possibly out of kindness, waits for me.
"Can you hand me my ticket real quick?" I ask, throwing my bag back onto my shoulder.
"Sure, let's go in." We walk into the main lobby area, waiting to get our tickets checked. The aquarium is beautiful, and oh so huge. The high ceilings, and smell of saltwater, the giant whale sculpture that I can only assume is life size, and the concrete flooring, these things that on a glance are grand, start to give me a pit in my stomach.
"Kageyama! Come on!"
I look at the horizon line, and recenter myself. A quick yet deep breath and I'm ready to go. I walk up, and turn in my ticket in order to get a wristband.
"Kageyama?" Hinata states, causing me to look over at him. "Can you help me put this on? I can never do it by myself." He holds up the paper slip.
"Yeah, sure." I say without thinking. I wrap it around his wrist.
"Hey, make sure not to make it too tight. They are a pain to get off if you don't give them enough breathing room." I nod my head, and make sure to give him a gap.
"There you go." I let go of his arm, realizing just then how warm my hand is. I can feel my face getting warm too.
"Okay, let me do you now." He quickly fits the bracelet to my arm. "It's perfect! Let's go inside. I wanna see this penguin exhibit that I've been hearing so much about. I keep seeing ads for it and I've wanted to see it forever-"
Hinata kept talking. I don't think he ever stopped talking. It's nice though. It makes it easier to not focus on the huge building, or the shifting lighting, or the crowds, or the ambient music that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Yup. I'm not focusing on any of that. Not. At. All.
My feet keep walking, despite my worrying. Hinata eventually slows, stopping before the largest piece of glass I've ever seen in my entire life. A giant tank filled with fish. The glass is taller than my house, longer than 3 busses, and blue and endless enough to make my heart stop in my chest.
F/ck.
Hinata turns around, and finds a bench to sit on, patting the seat next to him, while staring into the blue void. You feel like you have to bow down to its majesty. It is terrifyingly blue, terrifyingly enormous. I have never feared the ocean before, but I fear it in this very moment. A spotted whale shark swims past, paying no attention to the many people standing right against the glass.
"I could sit here forever." Hinata practically whispers. The giant tank orders your complete and utter silence. Even amongst a giant crowd, even with the littlest of children, everyone is quiet. The large speakers playing calming bass tones over the crowd of people, barely vibrating the floor.
"Hm. Me too." I reply. I could sit here forever, I feel like I already have sat here for infinity. Like its presence is something I could never escape. The pit in my stomach grows further. I break eye contact with the tank, reaching in my backpack. The zipper can barely be heard over the ambient noise of people shuffling. Was there always that sound? I bend down to look in my backpack. What was I going to get?
"Do you want a snack? I brought some granola bars." I state as I feel Hinata's eyes looking down at me.
"Actually, that sounds really good right now. I was just thinking about food." He states, bringing his head down to meet mine. I rustle around in my bag, and grab out a bar. It is barely bent. Passing it to him over my shoulder, he grabs it and unwraps it, sitting on the bench with his legs crossed.
"Sooo, what exhibit did you want to see?" He asks, taking a bite after.
"What do you mean?" I reply, choking down the pit in my stomach.
"Like... you invited me out here. So, what was it that you wanted to see?" He takes another bite.
"Uh. I just like fish, I guess." I look over at the tank, trying to avoid his gaze. I doubt he'll buy it, but it doesn't really matter.
"Me too! Let's go into the jellyfish room next? I can see the entrance to the penguins here and it looks packed. Explains why it's so much emptier here." He set his feet back on the ground and stood up, waiting for me to join him.
I leaned back down to zip up my bag, and we walked through a doorway into a smaller, darker room. Blacklights lit up the moon jellies as they calmly glided across the tank. Hinata seemed to drift off, but I didn't mind. It would probably be a good idea to be apart for a bit. I could calm down and collect myself quickly.
I walk up to the tiny seahorse exhibit, and look into the tank. I can't see them at all... I thought, when suddenly, I felt my forehead bump up against the glass.
How did I get close enough to bump up against it?
I go to look for a wall to lean up against. Leaning against something should help keep the pit down. I do a quick glance around the room. There are no walls. Only glass, and only fish. I hate fish.
Taking yet another deep and quick breath, I go back to meet up with Hinata. He was looking at a different kind of seahorse.
"Okay, I think I'm ready to go to the next section now." Hinata said, glancing away from the fish and over to the exit door. I nodded, and lightened up the scowl that was forming on my face. I didn't even notice it was happening until I felt my eyebrows aching from the effort. I just hope he didn’t notice.
The exit of the jellyfish room led to a balcony overlooking a lower floor. This must be the back of the aquarium. Below us there seemed to be a small cafe overlooking the sea.
"Here, let's go get some food! I can pay you back for the ticket that way." Hinata pulled my arm over to the down escalator. I step on right after him, and look down at the cafe.
It was very large, and honestly reminded me more of a cafeteria than a cafe, with lots of seating. After we reach the end of the escalator, he walked over to stand in line and stare at the menu. Looking for a good seat, I grab one right by the large window facing the water and set down my bag. I pull out the small amounts of snacks I've already brought to claim the seat and go over to Hinata.
"Hey, so I'm thinking about getting a sandwich. What do you want?" He stood, facing the menu.
"Honestly, just get me whatever you think I'd like." I state. I can't focus on the menu right now; I just don't have the energy to.
"Hmmm... Okay!" Hinata walks up to the register, while I go back to our seats. I'll probably regret that choice very soon, but I have backup food anyways, and I'm sure he'll eat whatever I don't, so it's not like the food will be wasted.
---
What the hell did he order??
I look at my plate, not quite understanding what the dish is even supposed to be.
"You said to get you whatever." He said with a smile, taking a bite of his sandwich right after.
"Whatever I might LIKE. What even is this?" I poked my dish with a spork, and it seemed to swallow it whole.
"No idea. I just pointed at the dish in the buffet." He shrugged. "I thought it might be funny, but it's less funny than I hoped. I expected more of a reaction." He looked up with the last sentence, making eye contact with me, which I broke a moment after.
"Sorry."
"Sorry? What are you saying sorry for? Since when did you say sorry anyways?" There was slight worry behind his voice, though it was hard to tell through his wide grin. To avoid answering, I quickly shove the food in my face. It's not great, but it's not really all that bad either. It's a little cold from sitting out.
"It's.... good." I say with a stuffed face. This causes him to start laughing again.
"You look super angry! That's the sort of reaction I was expecting." When did I even start scowling again? When I took a bite of the food, probably.
"You try it." I say, stealing a chip from his bag.
"I was the one who bought it anyway. I was half expecting you to make me eat it." Am I really that predictable? He took a bite, and made a variety of expressions, before settling on confusion.
"I wouldn't call it good. Maybe okay? It's definitely at least okay." He nodded to himself, taking a sip of water after.
"So, where to after this?" I ask.
---
We ended up on the train home while the sun was setting. It's almost to our stop. It felt so short, but we ended up hanging out for 5 hours. I almost forgot that I wanted it to be a date. I had to give up on that a while ago.
"Hey, we have to get off soon, get ready." I say, tapping his knee.
"Hm? Oh." He wakes up, blinking a few times and leaning forwards in his seat. He glances out the window.
The train stops, and we walk off onto the station platform.
"See you at practice tomorrow!" He says with a large smile, walking backwards towards the exit.
"See you." I reply, gripping the shoulder straps of my bag. I looked down
"I had a nice time on our date!" and with the last word, he turned around, running out of the station.
My head immediately turned upwards to where he was, as I feel my blood starting to rush to my face.
He... HE KNEW?!?

heyy i just saw your post about having random drabbles in your drafts and I was wondering if you wanted to share one? If you’re comfy with it ofc :) I love all your fanfics btw💕
oh sure! lol why not
Here’s some random kagehina smut I wrote a few months ago that’s been collecting dust for the past however long lmao
A/N: For context, they’re in college and they didn’t know each other in high school. This is, like, they’re first time speaking with one another, essentially, and they’re at a frat party.
~
The sound of the music raging beyond the bedroom walls is nothing compared to their heated breaths against each other.
Kageyama kicks the door closed with his foot as he and Hinata stumble into one of the vacant bedrooms. Their teeth awkwardly clack together and their noses bump as they press their lips harder against the other’s, trying somehow to both walk and kiss simultaneously.
Hinata exhales into Kageyama’s mouth, his hands grasping at the taller man’s back, shoulders, neck—his fingers searching for purchase.
Kageyama’s hands tug at the bottom of his shirt, and Hinata—realizing his intent—separates to let him remove the apparel. It’s gone in a matter of seconds, and Hinata blinks rapidly to clear his foggy vision, trying to get adjusted to the dark. In his drunken haze, his thoughts feel muddled, but it’s hard to tell if he feels sluggish due to his lack of sobriety or the sudden arousal thrumming in his body.
He pauses when he realizes that Kageyama has gone rigid, making the ginger cock a brow at him.
“What are you—“
“God,” Kageyama chokes out, voice low and raspy, as though this is his first time using it in months. Hinata swallows, color rising to his cheeks. “You’re beautiful.”
Hinata catches his bottom lip between his teeth, his breath getting caught in his throat.
The air between them is suddenly suffocatingly hot.
He swallows thickly and then grabs the collar of his shirt and yanks Kageyama’s face towards his own.
Their lips crash together, and through their drunken stupor, they topple back together and manage to clumsily make their way towards the bed.
They collapse, Hinata landing with a tiny umph, and Kageyama’s lips depart his as he uncoordinatedly begins to press lips all over his face. To the corner of his lips, the dive above his upper lip, the bridge of his nose, a spot underneath his right eye, his forehead—before, finally, blessing him with a kiss to the lips again.
The sound of the music pounding throughout the house seems to be the only thing that manages to ground Hinata—informing him on the fact that this is, in fact, happening. He is kissing Kageyama Tobio right now, and yes, they are both at a party, and yes, they are both drunk off their asses.
Kageyama’s hands roam his body like he isn’t too sure on what part he should give the most attention to, before, finally, his large bear-paw-like hands halt on his right pectoral. Hinata’s breath catches in his throat when a thumb finds his nipple, Kageyama’s forefinger and thumb rolling the hardening bud between them as they pull away with a wet smack of lips. Hinata whines, yearning for more attention, but his breath cuts short when Kageyama’s face dives between the crook in his neck, latching onto his clavicle to leave markings for the morning—evidence.
“F-Fuck,” Hinata gasps, hands reaching up, holding his back. God—he might just come from this alone.
It isn’t that he’s sensitive, but rather, it’s the alcohol in his system that’s dulling his tolerance and the fact that he is with the Kageyama Tobio that’s suddenly making him….
Okay, so maybe he is a bit sensitive.
But still! Christ—just Kageyama touching him alone is pure heaven. He can’t wait until he gets his fingers inside him.
“Seriously,” Kageyama says, his throat pressed to his stomach. The way it vibrates sends chills up his spine. “I can’t believe—“ a kiss above his bellybutton, leading down to his dick, “—that I am about have sex with—“ a kiss to his inner thigh, his lips latching onto the skin there, leaving a red welt to be revealed later, “—the Hinata Shouyou.”
Hinata bites back a moan. “I see you all the time around campus,” he gasps, fingers reaching into Kageyama’s dark locks. “Always thought you didn’t notice me—thought you didn’t—“ he pauses, forcing back a whine, not wanting to seem too desperate. “—Thought you didn’t care.”
Kageyama chortles, and the chuckle rolls through his entire body, into Hinata, and he shudders. “I really don’t care. But you…” he pauses, “how could I ever ignore you? You—you’re—God Hinata, you have no idea how badly I fucking wanted—no, how badly I want you.”
Hinata’s eyes flutter shut to the sound of his voice, lips pressing tightly together as he moans. It slips from his, unbidden, and he only seems to register it after it’s left him.
His eyes pop open, face flooding deeper in embarrassment as he peers down at Kageyama. The latter’s cerulean orbs stare at his ambers—captivate him—just as amusement flashes through them.
“Excited?” It sounds both as though it’s a question and a declaration.
Hinata gulps. Not trusting what sound he’d make dare he open his mouth—he just nods slowly.
“So am I,” he says. “God I’m so fucking ready for you.”
“You have no idea how much I want you,” he exhales. “Please, Kageyama—I—I need you.”
Kageyama nods like he knows all too well how desperate he is. But Hinata can’t imagine this man has any idea how many nights he’s woken up and had to thrust his own fingers into his ass to relieve the tension he feels upon just thinking about him. Hinata can’t imagine that this man has any idea how fucking badly he needs him.
“Kageyama I—“ Hinata bites his lip.
“Tobio,” Kageyama corrects. “S-Say Tobio.”
Hinata nods. “T-Tobio—“ But then his words cut off when Tobio’s hand grazes across his chest again.
This man—boy, really—may not know how badly Hinata needs him, but maybe, he can show him.
His legs wrap around Tobio’s waist, tightening around it before he lifts his hips upwards. His groin is met with the hardened bulge in Tobio’s jeans, and the contact against his own erection sends his mind spinning.
“Fuuuck,” Tobio groans against him, burying his face in the crook of his neck. “Do—Do it again.”
Hinata nods, tightening his legs even more and forcing himself to lift his hips. “Oh god,” he sobs into the open air. Tobio meets his action, gyrating his hips down for friction.
“Please—I—“ Hinata begs, “—I need you, Tobio.”
Tobio nods. “I need you—fuck—I can’t wait to feel you around me.”
Hinata gasps at the thought. “Yes,” he sighs, lowering his legs and pulling his pants down. Tobio helps, and they soon become a mess of fingers and arms and hands as Hinata tries to shimmy out of his trousers.
Tobio’s hands slide towards the smaller boy’s briefs when his jeans are down to his ankles, and the contact is enough to make a shiver ripple through his spine.
“Are you okay with—“
“Yes—“ Hinata whines. “Yes—fuck, Tobio—please—don’t make me wait.”
Tobio swallows before sticking his chin out in a jerky nod. His fingers slip past the fabric of his briefs, thumb finding his cock. His fingers wrap around the hardening length, sliding the briefs away to pump Hinata with ease, using the precum at the top of his cock as a lubricant.
The ginger boy yelps at the contact, his hips jerking into his touch as a gasp snags itself in his throat.
But then Tobio’s movements come to a slow, his hand falling away from his dick and finding his entrance beneath it.
Hinata’s world spins, every thought too loud, too much—he’s unable to focus on anything but the fingers teasing him.
“Mmn—“ he moans, head pressing back into the bedsheets. “Tobio, please.”
Tobio nods against his neck, pressing kisses along the length of his shoulder as he slowly sinks a finger past the ring of muscle. Hinata offers him an absolutely divine moan in response, his hips spazzing as the finger reaches deeper into him. Tobio is quick to add two more digits and curl them, hitting the ragged spot inside of Hinata which forces him to bite down on his tongue to stop himself from mewling.
“Damn—” Tobio murmurs. “You have no idea how much I want this.”
Hinata sobs his pleasure into the open air around them, unable to find a care in the world for the fact that the other partiers can probably hear his desperation through the walls. “Please,” he begs, the feeling of him stretching his open excruciating. “I need—inside—now.”
Tobio groans. “Fuck I—I can’t. Not yet.”
Hinata sobs incoherently. “Please Tobio,” he keens. “You have no idea how—mmn—how long I’ve waited for this.
Tobio holds his breath and that’s it—he’s gone. His fingers slide out of him, leaving Hinata clenching around nothing as he fumbles to undo his belt.
He curses when his fingers slip, wet and slippery, but he manages to slide them down from his waist. Sitting up onto his knees, he slides his pants down and grabs the condom from his back pocket before completely extracting his trousers, and Hinata gapes at his dick.
“Fuck,” he sighs. “H-How the hell do you walk around with that all day?”
Tobio goes bright red. “Stop teasing me,” he grumbles, tearing open the foil wrapper of the condom.
“Well sorry,” Hinata grunts. “But it’s not every day I see a monster come out of a man’s pants.”
Tobio sucks in a sharp breath, his grip slipping, and then the condom falls from his hands. “Dumbass,” he gasps, grabbing it from when it fell onto the comforter. He lifts his gaze, eyes narrowing as they lock with Hinata’s. “Y-You don’t just say that shit!”
Hinata purses his lips together. “Sorry,” he says, sounding genuinely remorseful. For a second, Tobio regrets chastising him so harshly.
“I just don’t know how that thing is gonna fit inside me,” he murmurs.
Tobio’s brows furrow, and then his regret is gone. “Just wait,” he sighs, sliding the condom on himself. “Soon, you won’t be asking how it’ll fit—you’ll be asking for more.”
Hinata worries his bottom lip between his teeth as he starts to kick his pants off. “Is that a threat?”
“No,” Tobio says, waiting until he’s finished to grab his wrists and pin the smaller boy down to the mattress, “a promise.”
He tilts his hips, holding his dick and positioning it at his entrance. He pushes forward, and his tip is first met with pressure, and Hinata gasps unabashedly, his fingers gripping the sheets.
“G-God, Hinata, you’re so—t-tight,” Tobio gasps, trying to push further.
“Shou—ah—Shouyou,” Hinata keens. “My—given name. Say—nghnn—it.”
“Shouyou,” Tobio utters, like a promise—like a prayer.
At that, Shouyou fists the sheets, tossing his head back as Tobio sinks further. The heat of his walls clamping down on him nearly sends him over the edge right then and there, but Tobio holds his breath and forces his hips to still, wanting this to last much longer.
“Pleaseee—” Shouyou whines, shifting his hips. Tobio gasps and leans down, placing his hands on either side of his head as he hovers above his.
“If you do that,” he groans, brows furrowing. “I won't last long.”
“You won’t last long either way,” Shouyou says, and it’s meant to be a tease, but it instead comes out shaky and desperate.
Tobio raises an intrigued brow at this in spite of Shouyou’s failed attempt at a taunt. “Is that a threat?” He asks, probably mocking him earlier.
Shouyou grins at him, wrapping his arms around his neck and pulling him down. Their noses knock together, their lips inches apart, and Shouyou fears Tobio might hear his beating heart from their close proximity.
“No,” the ginger gasps, voice low and so quiet, it might’ve been mistaken for the whisper of the wind had they been outside. “It’s a promise.”
Tobio tilts his head down, their lips connecting just as he plunges forward. He sinks into him—buries himself to the hilt—and Shouyou feeds him a watery moan that only heightens his libido.
“So…” Shouyou gasps, burying his face into the juncture between his shoulder and neck, “so big.”
Tobio’s arms slip around his torso, holding the boy closer to his body as he slowly pulls himself out, tantalizingly slow. Then, he pushes deeper, and Shouyou sobs against him.
His hips fall into a rhythmic pace, slow but steady, and Shouyou’s brain short circuits. His hands trail down to his back, searching for purchase and slipping underneath his shirt, grasping at the skin.
“Faster,” he gasps against his neck. “Please Tobio—this is torture.”
Maybe, under different circumstances, Tobio would have paused; waited until Shouyou became a whiny babbling mess—begging for him to continue—but he would only still his hips and watch as the smaller boy’s face contorted into a mix of both pain and pleasure. Maybe he would’ve waited until tears shone in his eyes, and when he finally did plunge back deep into his, pounding relentlessly in and out of the boy, finally answering his plea for more, he would savor Hinata’s expression as his mouth would fall open and he’d scream his name.
But alas, tonight, he is just as desperate as he is. He has been watching this boy around his college campus and on the court for months now—admired him from afar in the library for far too many evenings in a row. Tonight is the night he has dreamed about the minute he laid eyes upon this unruly mess of orange hair, and he is too fucking needy to be a tease right now.
Next time, he tells himself. Next time, I’ll give him so much more.
And that thought—that simple thought of there being another time in the future (in the near-future, hopefully) in which he’ll be able to savor each part of Shouyou and make him scream his name makes his limbs go weak.
Tobio readjusts his hips and hits that spot deep within him, making Shouyou’s back bow and mouth fall open and head fall back. He keens as his hips thrust in and out of his erratically, fast yet unsteady, his thighs trembling as though he is on the brink of orgasm.
“Fuck—yes—“ he groans, his stomach twisting and gut tightening. “You feel—nghnn—so fucking good, Shou—Shouyou.”
“Shit,” he gasps, eyes rolling to the back of his skull. “Fuck—I-I’m gonna cum,” he cries.
His back arches off the bed, hips lifting weekly to start meeting his thrusts as he climbs closer to sweet fucking release.
“Don’t stop—“ he gasps. “D-Don’t fucking stop.”
“Wouldn’t—hah—dream of it. I’m—“ Tobio swallows, “—gonna cum.”
“Fuck—yes—ohh—just like that! Right there right there—FUCK YES!” Shouyou sobs, babbling nonsensical pleasure at this point. “Keep going! Ohmygod—please don’t fucking stop—you feel so good—mmhmm—yesyesyesyes—fuck!” Shouyou cries, continuing to sob about how fucking good you feel and ohmygod I’m aboug to cum so fucking hard holy fuck you’re so big oh my god please please please—
And maybe it’s the alcohol—or maybe it’s his exhaustion—or maybe it’s the fact that he’s being fucked by the man whom he’s been yearning for since this semester started—but Shouyou swears he’s about to have the biggest fucking orgasm of his life.
“I’m cumming—“ he gasps. And then, much louder, wanting the entire fucking frat house to know, he yells; “I’m gonna cum!”
“Fuck—“ Tobio gasps. “God—you’re so… fucking—perfect. Shouyou—I-I’m…” his voice trails off, white spots crowding his vision as pure ecstasy kicks in. Stuffing away all his thoughts, overriding his senses—the exhilarating moment that precedes an orgasm floods through Tobio and he loses himself to fucking Shouyou senseless.
The drunken boy sobs, his nails indenting crescents into the skin of Tobio’s back as he comes, spilling white ribbons of cum between both his and Tobio’s body. His body tremors from head to toe as his brain fails to register the cry of pleasure that tears itself from his throat as he buries his face into Tobio’s neck. White-hot heat floods his system, fills his core as his orgasm rolls through him like a wave, drowning him. It isn’t long before Tobio’s erratic thrusts come to a stuttering stop as he buries himself to the hilt and comes, spilling into his condom and groaning his release until he’s been milked completely.
They stay like that, frozen in place before Shouyou kisses the skin on his neck—pulling both him and his away from their land of bliss and grounding them back into reality. Finally, he sinks down into the comforter, boneless, and Tobio pulls out. Being emptied so abruptly leaves him shivering, and as Tobio pulls the condom off his cock and ties it off, a tired laugh escapes the exhausted boy.
“Wow,” is all he says.
Tobio nods slowly, leaning across the bed and tossing the condom into the trash can across the room. “Wow, indeed.”
“We… really did that,” he says. “Holy fuck. We actually did it.”
Tobio collapses on the bed beside his. “We did.”
Shouyou turns to him, and with the heat and pressure and moaning gone, he’s able to savor each piece of him. He smiles at his face, scooting closer to him to press his lips to his sweaty forehead.
“We should probably apologize to the house owner for having sex in their bed,” he says.
Tobio shrugs. “It’s a frat house—this is expected.”
Shouyou sighs. “But… still.”
“Does it concern you that much?”
Shouyou gapes at him, mock aghast. “Of course it does! I actually care about other people, unlike you—Bakageyama.”
Tobio narrows his eyes at him. “Hinata boke,” he mutters before snaking his arms around the smaller boy's waist and shoving his body into his, ignoring the indignant squawk of surprise he receives from Shouyou. “Fine, we’ll apologize.”
“Right now?” The ginger asks, voice muffled from having his face smothered into Tobio’s chest.
“Later,” Tobio murmurs. “Let’s just stay like this for now.”
And maybe, being like this is too much. Because they just had sex, and they are both sweaty and hot messes, and Shouyou could probably use a shower—but since he is with Tobio, it isn’t that much.
“M‘kay,” he says, only because he is madly captivated by this man. “Later, then.” he snuggles up impossibly closer to him, resting his head on his chest as they let their exhaustion from the sex and the weariness from the alcohol sweep them away into a peaceful realm of post-orgasmic, hypnagogic bliss.

Haikyuu!! Ship Analysis: OiHina
**SUNSHINE SETTER SPOILERS BELOW**
With all the negative in the world, Furudate really said, “screw you, 2020, I’m giving everyone some good food” with Haikyuu!! coming into this year, and with the manga concluded, I want to go back and examine some popular ships and why we love them/why they work.
The 2020-2021 Haikyuu!! calendar just dropped and I was pretty excited to see the month of August highlighted with this image:
So, this calendar image, followed by the cover of the Haikyuu!! Light Novel, volume 12, has really screamed, “Oihina rights!” to many fans, myself included. But...why has this ship grown in popularity? What has Furudate given us fans to fuel the flames for this pairing? Well, let’s find out, with this analysis!
Part I. Setting Up A Rivalry...
So, it’s been established early on that Oikawa views Kageyama as a threat, and has been constantly working to make sure he stays superior to his rival setter. But from Chapter 14, there was the faintest inklings of rivalry established between Oikawa and Hinata -- starting with this famous scene from Chapter 14, “Versus the Great King”:
Despite Oikawa looking frustrated they lost the game, this is his reaction immediately following the moment in Chapter 15. He seems to get over his initial shock, as it’s replaced with some...other...emotion, it seems:
And later, we can see the foundation of the dynamic Oikawa establishes with both Hinata and Kageyama. Notice how in this scene he offers Hinata polite praise for his winning move, while immediately challenging Kageyama, who clearly did not sign up for this barrage of taunts.
It’s interesting, because it kind of sets Oikawa up as a rival for Kageyama...just like Hinata. We’ll talk more about Hinata and Oikawa’s similarities below, but I love how this weird “Rival Triangle” has formed between these three and carries on into both matches of Karasuno vs. Aoba Johsai later on.
PART II. Oikawa’s Not-So Subtle Focus on Hinata:
While there are hints in the practice match that Oikawa recognizes Shoyo could be a threat, we don’t see Oikawa really focusing on Hinata until later, when Aoba Johsai shows up to watch Karasuno’s game before they play them in Chapter 39, “The Return.” I like how Oikawa is not at ALL impressed with Asahi,
But seconds later, is all-hungry-eyes on Hinata’s “god-mode” set:
And then there’s Chapter 48, “The Conductor.” I love this chapter. I saw this image on Twitter, and I about fell out of my seat laughing:
Seriously. Think about it. Oikawa sat like that for over an HOUR, listening to Hinata screaming “Bring it” and “Give it.” No, no, we’re fine over here...
Of course, we see how Oikawa views Hinata as a threat during their first match up against them in the Inter High Prelim Qualifier match in Chapters 61-63:
His reference to Shoyo as a “Monster” is consistently brought up in the series, and then, waaaay later on in Chapter 189 at the end of the Shiratorizawa match, acknowledges how Hinata is indeed the type of hitter you WANT to throw the ball to, foreshadowing Inarizaki and Atsumu Miya literally 100 chapters early:
PART III. “We’re Not So Different, You and I”
So, this leads us to the dreaded Chapter 365 and onward into the now-infamous “Rio Mini Arc.” I’ve noted it in a previous post, but during Takeda’s lecture to Shoyo in Chapter 365, and then later on in chapter 368-369, any time the words “defeat” or “hurdle” are thrown up, there’s an image of Oikawa beside them. In this moment, we are to meant as readers to liken Hinata’s hurdles and obstacles with those that plagued our main antagonist, Oikawa, all those chapters ago. You may be wondering why Furudate would set such a thing up...well, in Chapter 371, we get this reveal:
Ah, yes, of all places and of all people -- Shoyo wasn’t the only one crazy enough to trek across the ocean to South America to improve his game. Oikawa did too, only going to Argentina instead of Brazil. Yes, as Kindaichi and Kunimi kindly observe, Shoyo and Oikawa may have more in common that we the readers gave credit to, originally, as we see in the precursor to the best damn selfie in the whole series and possibly manga history:
But it’s below that’s kind of the crux of this whole OiHina ship for me -- It’s not just that Oikawa and Shoyo are so alike...it’s that Oikawa and Kageyama are so alike, too:
Oikawa, whether he wants to admit it or not, has a lot in common with our blueberry setter...the difference, as we can see in these panels, is that unlike Kageyama, Oikawa is GREAT with communication. His ability to communicate with his team and connect with them is his hallmark as a player, right?
Take for example, this situation below. If it’d been Kageyama, he’d probably fluster around, call Hinata “boke” and they’d bicker and carry on -- Oikawa, though, rightfully takes the compliment and runs with it, even adding in that flirty little tag there at the end. You’re not helping matters, Furudate...
Back to similarities with Hinata, though, and showing just how much Hinata has GROWN to Oikawa, we have this conversation below. Oikawa started out this manga literally calling Shoyo and Tsukishima “dumb.” Now, 300+ chapters later, he’s acknowledged that Hinata is “thinking” ahead...doing very much the same kind of crazy tricks to improve himself that Oikawa has chosen as well.
Also, good to know that Hinata initiated wanting to get Oikawa’s contact info; plus, Oikawa having to deal with his own teammates just giving him a hard time 24/7, when Shoyo’s offering open praise? No wonder he latched on...
But seriously, go read Chapters 373 and 374 in their fullest -- there are TOO many amazing moments between Shoyo and Oikawa to count, but they all show this forming friendship that I’m just in love with, like this one from 373:
And while I LOVE the moment Oikawa calls our ray of sunshine straight-up “Shoyo” and shakes his hand, acknowledging their friendship and respect for each other, I really love this final shot of Oikawa before we see him at the Olympics. That panel of him walking away, reminding Shoyo that he has a looooong way to go, but showing his sudden motivation to get even better:
Seriously, in the anime, I have a feeling that one episode is going to end with the ending of Chapter 371, and then they’ll probably just have one episode encapsulate Chapters 372 - 374, which I will be sad if it’s one episode in the anime...but MAN, I’m going to be watching that episode on repeat for a while, just to see these chapters re-imagined in animation.
PART IV. To The Olympics...and BEYOND!
The final chapter of Haikyuu!! graced us with the reunion of our ray of sunshine and our sassy trash king setter, and let’s be real -- we all need this animated...and to have Atsumu and Kageyama’s reactions on display in this moment, just for the fun of it.
And ya’ll wonder why there’s so many Rio/Brazil Fling fics out there?!
I think, besides this hug, what cements this ship after this last chapter is the following:
* Even if it’s just a platonic friendship, it’s still one of the most fun and freshly developed friendships in the series, and makes sense going back from start to finish in the manga.
* Even if it’s just a fling, it’s flirty, fun, and could be the stepping stone for shippers that want to spice up their Iwaoi/Kagehina drama/angsty fics by adding in a little “fling” for Oikawa and/or Hinata to go through before reconnecting with their soulmates, if that’s your ship.
* And even if you want to view it as something more than platonic friendship or stepping stones into other ships, it still works. I mean, after all, Hinata went to play for Brazil after the Olympics. And Brazil’s a stone’s throw away from Argentina...so...who knows what could have ended up happening, right?
Furudate definitely doesn’t confirm many ships (with the exception of Tanaka and Kiyoko), but he definitely lays out some crumbs for us the fandom to nibble on and speculate with endlessly. OiHina may not be my OTP for Hinata, but I will never deny that it’s fun, spicy, and presents a VERY nuanced way to view the relationship between one of my favorite manga protagonist and antagonist pairings. Furudate, you are a genius. Thank you for the food!

❛ s o l a r s y s t e m ❜
— hinata harem drabbles and reader insert
SYNOPSIS: my thoughts on various hinata ships, plus my take on what it would be like to marry the sunshine himself.
PAIRINGS: kenhina, kagehina, atsuhina, oihina, hoshihina, tsukkihina, hinata x reader.
A/N: I would add wayyy more ships but I didn’t want this to be too long. I may add a part 2 depending on the feedback I get.
MANGA SPOILERS
☆ミ KENHINA
— the only sugar baby and sugar daddy relationship that matters
— shoyou says he likes something off-handedly only for kenma to buy it in bulk the next day
— “if you get boring, I’ll stop ;)” that’s it that’s the sunmary. need I say more to describe their dynamic?
— Kenma and him fight a lot to cover the bill, only for Kenma to pay for it secretly on his way to the bathroom
— honestly just such caring boys to each other. Kenma is so intune with how Shoyou feels and will lay down just about anything to make him feel better. Shoyou brings happiness and energy to Kenya’s life and makes sure that he takes plenty of breaks from the screen, so he can rest.
— he’s part of the pretty setter squad, what can I say.
☆ミ KAGEHINA
— literal representation of yin-yang. They balance eachother out in the best way and work perfectly together
— volleyball dorks that wanna bring each other to new heights. Constantly noticing improvement (namely Hinata’s) in each other and instantly being filled with joy at the sight of it
— like seriously. Kageyama was the first to see potential in Hinata, and was willing to put effort into drawing his talent out. Before Kageyama there was no one who would do that shit, and i honestly can’t imagine Hinata without his influence
—romance aside, their friendship and teamwork is something we all want in life. They’re intune with the others needs and characters, they’re a POWERFOUPLE and everyone acknowledges them as one
☆ミ ATSUHINA
— wow, he can jump. That’s it, we wilding now 🤪
— deadass saw him play for one match and decided “ah yes. I want this one” LMAO
— Atsumu made a promise to toss for him and actually fulfilled that oath 6 years later. King really did THAT.
— okay but Atsumu casually staking claim over Hinata as HIS wing spiker, really brought out his protective bf side. You can just tell how much pride and trust he has in Hinata as a teammate, enough where he’ll call him HIS wing spiker at any given time.
— I just love the way Hinata encourages Atsumu and his jokes that go over everyone else’s head.
— “Atsumu-san! I found it funny!” :D
— hinata comes thru when no one else does. We love to see it
— Atsumu being the stressed mom friend of the jackals and Hinata either adding to the stress, or helping him out.
— hinata being one of the few people that matches Atsumu’s energy for constantly thinking of new moves/techniques for volleyball. Will stay long after practice just to work together and play the sport they love.
☆ミ OIHINA
— DO NOT TELL ME THAT OIKAWA DIDN’T MAKE SEVERAL TRIPS TO RIO TO VISIT HINATA AGAIN. DO N O T.
— oihina spent several days in the honeymoon phase. Going to restaurants, building sandcastles, playing beach volleyball, taking selfies to piss old rivals off. And this is Brazil we’re talking about. They 100% went to bars and danced in the streets, drunk off of the alcohol and the feeling of being close to each other. If this doesn’t scream “forbidden summer romance, I found a piece of home away from home” energy, then idk what does.
— they met as two homesick boys that left the country to pursue their dreams. Both of them were feeling lost and had no idea where to go from there, but then they saw each other and their vigor was restored. I’ll say it again, THEY FOUND A PIECE OF HOME INSIDE EACHOTHER. THEY REMINDED EACHOTHER OF THEIR ULTIMATE GOALS AND THAT VOLLEYBALL IS A SPORT WHERE YOU HAVE FUN.
— oikawa definitely needs reminding that he is enough, that he is skilled and hardworking, and most importantly to take care of himself. Hinata would definitely be able to provide this support to him. He is a fountain of endless praise and validation, and what makes it better is that it’s all sincere and only based on the truth.
☆ミ TSUKKIHINA
— Tsukki would fucking punch himself before catching feelings for Hinata. Which is what makes this ship even funnier.
— it’s just Tsukki back at it again with his salty inner-monologue to himself and denying his feelings, only for Hinata to waltz right in and change his view of everything
— the type of couple to be arguing and all up in each others faces, only to be like “holy shit he’s close,” and be reduced to a blushing mess
— when Hinata actually sasses back yall better be behind Tsukki to catch him as he burns. This man will either clap right back or short circuit from the shock alone.
— he probably develops a hunch from holding hinata's hand all the time and crouching down to give a hug. Mans looking like Quasimodo but it’s okay, he’s in love.
☆ミ HOSHIHINA
— not really a fav ship of mine, but I gotta give appreciation where appreciation is due
— they’re so alike yet so different in so many ways
— I just love how they’ve finally found someone to relate to, someone who knows exactly what it’s like to be underestimated at first, only to completely soar through their expectations in order to reach higher heights
— they’re a great reference to each other, and they clearly love seeing the other improve and try out different things. They have a deep respect and sense of rivalry, and they most definitely are the dumbest-and-dumbest couple that can’t figure out shit outside of volleyball
— they compete over the pettiest shit. Will race each other to get into the shower first, or put on their seatbelts. Chaotic energy can be sensed from miles away. Can’t be left alone to do anything without the building collapsing smh.
☆ミ HINATA X READER
— ngl you got the entire volleyball scene jealous
— like you managed to snag the most versatile and sought after player in the whole of Japan. You really did THAT.
— Shoyou is definitely the type to give you a one-handed hug and a kiss to the forehead every time he has to leave for something
— will sling an arm around you from behind and ask you about your day. Asks you quick fire questions like, “have you eaten yet?” “Have you drank water?” And is overall a super attentive lover
— “hey, I’m Shoyou Hinata and this is my spouse!” Cue the blinding grin that’s brighter than the sun
— Like they do for Hinata, players like Hoshiumi and Ushijima address you by your full name, and you and your husband find it hilarious.
— “OI HINATA” - kageyama
— the both of you turn around
— all chaos ensues
— I feel like Shoyou wouldn’t be the type to flirt with you at first, he’d just be really upfront with it. Will dead ass head straight towards you after practice or something, and say, “hey! Wanna go back to my place after this?”
— he’d say this with the BRIGHTEST SMILE, and I bet he’d blush a lot too
— he would still blush, even once yall are married and everything
— everyone cries at your wedding. You don’t know if it’s tears of joy, or they’re all at a loss because they wanted Hinata all to themselves. And honestly? Same.

Blurred Embraces
Can also be read on AO3!
Rating: G
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Pairing: Kagehina (Hinata/Kageyama)
Characters: Shoyo Hinata, Tobio Kageyama, the briefest cameos from Tanaka and Daichi lol
Summary: In the aftermath of the match against Inarizaki, Hinata can only find one source of clarity.
A/N: Contains SPOILERS for Haikyuu!! To The Top! Mostly canon compliant, though the boys have confessed to each other and smooched before hehe (Further author’s notes can be read on AO3)
Somewhere in the back of his mind, Hinata knew his body hurt. His hands hurt, his arms hurt, his legs, the soles of his feet, everything hurt.
But as he watched the ball hit the back of the court, just out of Inarizaki’s reach and just within the boundaries, and as he heard the whistle signaling the end of the match and Karasuno’s victory, he couldn’t care less about his pain and exhaustion. He could only feel the rush of adrenaline that came as soon as their victory was confirmed, and the brush of Kageyama’s sleeve against his arm.
He knew the rest of the team was running at them. He knew they were about to be swallowed up by their hugs and shouts. But in those few seconds, his whole world was narrowed down to him and Kageyama, on their knees from scoring the final point.
He looked to his side, met those blue eyes, and distantly noticed those lips moving before he was throwing his arms around those heaving shoulders. He was too exhausted to feel embarrassed or to worry about the nags he would get later. For only one moment, he wanted to celebrate, just the two of them.
The overexertion of his body was pushing its way to the front of his mind, only to be shoved aside by the feeling of Kageyama’s arms wrapping around him and his hands clutching at his jersey. “We did it,” Hinata heard hoarsely in his ear, and he could only laugh weakly in response.
They did it.
The rest of the team descended on them, Tanaka and Sawamura and Azumane first, closely followed by Nishinoya and Sugawara. Somehow, they knew not to pry them away from each other, settling on wrapping their arms around both of them and shaking their shoulders and ruffling their hair. And through it all, Hinata kept clutching to Kageyama, and Kageyama clutched him back.
The following hours were a blur — in hindsight, Hinata could only remember flashes in the midst of his exhausted euphoria: him and Kageyama arguing over who could take credit for the block. Atsumu Miya suddenly promising to set for him one day, and the jealousy burning from Kageyama’s eyes afterwards. Everyone drowsily trying to pack their things in the baggage room.
Hinata only really returned to himself after dinner, bolstered by a stomach full of food and the anticipation of watching the news coverage of their match. By the time it was the first years’ turn in the bath, his exhaustion was already replaced by his eagerness for the next game, much to Tsukishima’s chagrin and Yamaguchi’s amusement.
He didn’t get a moment alone with Kageyama until they were changing into their pajamas, left behind by the others. “You know,” he muttered as he tugged his shirt on, “I don’t think Kenma will really care if he wins or loses...but I still really want to beat him. I want to prove I’m better than him.”
“Why are you acting like it’s just going to be you two in the court?” Kageyama grumbled. “Our teams will be competing, not just you and him.”
“Shut up! I know that! But if we win, that means I win against Kenma!”
“That doesn’t make any sense, dumbass…”
Hinata scowled, but he couldn’t help noticing the lack of real bite behind Kageyama’s words, and that sapped any real desire in him to start a fight. He yanked his pants on with a little too much force and reached for his bag...only to be stopped by Kageyama speaking up again. “By the way, you, uh...you did good. Out there. Today.”
The words echoed around Hinata’s head as he stared, his delight mounting when Kageyama turned red. “Are you...complimenting me? You really did see my receive!”
“What receive?”
“Why, you-”
“I’m just saying,” Kageyama interrupted smoothly, “you actually used your brain out there. It was...it was good. You did good.”
Hinata’s face was warm, and he wasn’t sure if it was from the praise or his frustration over Kageyama stubbornly denying he’d seen his receive. Either way, those words made a smile push at his pink cheeks, and he felt a strange shyness welling up in him as he watched Kageyama flush deeper and glance away. “Thanks. You too.”
“Thanks. And, um...I...would you...I mean…”
Tobio Kageyama never flinched away from asking for anything...except one thing. Hinata’s shy grin turned teasing as he watched the setter stumble over his words, knowing exactly what he was trying to request. “D’you need something, Kageyama?”
“Shut up! I just...I was just wondering if...you’d want to…”
“Gotta speak up, Kageyama-kuuuun.”
“Just forget it! Forget I said anything!” Those blue eyes were blazing as they finally met Hinata’s, only to widen in surprise at him standing right next to Kageyama. “Oh.”
“‘Forget it’? Should I go, then?” Hinata asked, eyes wide with mock surprise.
“...Dumbass.” With that, Kageyama cupped Hinata’s face with a gentleness that still felt strange from him, and bent to press their lips together.
Part of him still floundered when they kissed. All of the instinctual agility and reflexes that he had on the court deserted him the moment Kageyama’s lips brushed his. He still had to remind himself to relax, go with the flow, don’t overthink things.
And once he did...Hinata felt like he could fly. Giddiness bubbled through him with each careful press of their lips, with the feeling of Kageyama’s shirt clenched between his fingers and their bodies leaning against each other as he rose to his toes. It didn’t make sense, how someone as annoying as Kageyama could be the one Hinata wanted to spend every second with...but when they kissed, Hinata couldn’t care less about logistics. He just wanted this, Kageyama gentle on his lips and firm against his hands.
“OI!” The shout from outside the door made the boys spring apart, blood rushing to their faces until Hinata thought he might pass out. “Slow pokes, get out of there! Other people need to use the baths!”
“O-okay, Tanaka-san!” Hinata squeaked, earning himself a chuckle and shooting a frown at Kageyama.
“Your face matches your hair,” Kageyama snorted, poking a finger at Hinata’s red cheek.
“Shut up! At least I match, you just look like a weird tomato.”
“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“You’re just too stupid to get it.” Hinata smacked the finger away from his face and grabbed his bag. But he was stopped again when he reached for the door, this time by a hand around his wrist.
“Hey.”
“What now?” he sighed. As he turned to face Kageyama, he had just enough time to process those blue eyes coming closer, dark and glittering before they shut...and then there were lips against his, just a gentle press, before Kageyama pulled away. “Wha…,” Hinata stammered, blinking up at the smirking setter, “wha...what was that for?”
Kageyama just laughed at him, but it was a different laugh from the mocking bark he would hear on the court. This one was bright and open and happy, happy in a way he so rarely heard from someone so grumpy all the time. “You look cute when you’re surprised,” was the only explanation he offered before he swung open the door, leaving Hinata to splutter after him.
“Cute? Cute?” he choked out, “I’ll show you cute, Dummy-yama!!!”
He only managed to get to the living room before he was stopped by Daichi’s sudden bellow. “Hinata! Kageyama! Shut it!”
“Why am I getting yelled at?!” Kageyama squawked.
“I know you started this! Go to bed, you guys worked hard today.”
“...Yes, Captain.”
Calm finally fell over the inn when it was bedtime, the entire team (and managers) tucked into their futons. Sleep slowly crept over Hinata, but before it could take him under, he looked over to where Kageyama lay next to him and whispered just loud enough for him to hear, “Hey...I can’t wait for us to win tomorrow.”
The last thing he heard before he finally passed out was a soft, almost-fond scoff. “Yeah...me too.”

-sakuatsu-
Marble and Sandstone by red_camellia
rating: G words: 12,937 chapters: 2/2
author summary: Miya Atsumu only cares about volleyball and nothing else. That is, until he develops a strange obsession with the marble statue of a young man that seems vaguely familiar in his university's arts department. One day that statue comes alive as the very real Sakusa Kiyoomi, and they are left with the mystery of why Sakusa Kiyoomi was turned into a statue and only came back to life when Atsumu touched him. Their new-found connection and the strange mystery turns Atsumu's life upside down, not least because of his growing feelings for Sakusa.
my notes: this was a rlly cute fic!!! 11/10 would read again!!
let it go (paint my body gold) by lunarism
rating: T words: 3,272 chapters: 1/1
author summary: It becomes a routine for them. Sometimes they go grocery shopping and make dinner together, other times they end up talking until Sakusa feels like his own shower and bed is calling him. Every single time Sakusa gets home, shrugs his coat off, balls it up, and proceeds to scream profusely into the fabric for a few minutes.
my notes: pining!!! sakusa!!! also casual painter!atsumu!!! and they paint together!!!
craft a miracle with these hands, lips, (silence) by chrysanthe (sonderesque)
rating: T words: 4,252 chapters: 1/1

(What does Kiyoomi sell his sanctuary for?)
my notes: hnnn rlly fuckin cute,, and domestic,,,,
Clipped To You by littleboat
rating: T words: 8,174 chapters: 1/1
author summary: It starts with Hinata Natsu, of all people.
Well, if Atsumu’s being honest with himself, it started way before that, but he’s not, so that’s besides the point. And thankfully, he’s just petty enough to blame all of his problems on a thirteen year old girl.
or Sakusa starts wearing hair clips and Atsumu is more than a little obsessed
my notes: minor kagehina, bokuaka // god these fics rlly make me simp for fictional characters even more than i should. but!! sakusa!!! in hairclips!!! and a pining atsumu!!!
learn how to lay me down in something other than danger, other than fury by rosevtea
words: 34,211 chapters: 1/1
author summary: All of the ways fellow college TA Miya Atsumu reinvents Kiyoomi's definition of normal.
my notes: god i loved this. it’s a fake dating au and like,, even though they’re “dating” sakusa keeps letting his guard down little by little around atsumu and it surprises everyone. komori and akaashi just know that they’re were genuinely pining for eachother
among probabilities and a thousand fates by aalphard
rating: T words: 15,675 chapters: 1/1
author summary: prompt fill for “in a world where the red string of fate exists, person a’s finger always twitches when person b, who can see the string, tugs on their string” | or sakusa thought he had a tic and atsumu liked to see his confused expression when it started to happen exclusively when he was around.
my notes: i! loved! it!! so basically atsumu and osamu have the rare gift of seeing the red string of fate, so they know its real but sakusa, like most other people dont believe it exists. so atsumu gives sakusa a (kinda) hard time. rlly cute!! i love soulmate aus!
-bokuaka-

author summary:
bokuto: why is he so hot bokuto: why am i so gay kuroo: LMAO you mean your vice captain right bokuto: yeah

my notes: i love text fics and i love wrong number aus so u can tell how much i loved this. really fluffy and i come back to it time to time
-kuroken-
us three by honey_s
rating: T words: 5,137 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Kuroo’s gaze flits over to the utensil. His eyes bulge out of his skull. “Wh—is that a meat hammer? Put it back!” Akaashi’s head recoils back in confusion. “I don’t understand the problem here.” “Why on Earth have you got a fucking meat hammer? We aren’t going to kill somebody!” “Well,” Akaashi begins, clearly taken aback, “I apologise for assuming. I had heard Kenma-san had been hurt in school and after getting a message from both of you to meet late at night, I merely filled in the blanks and assumed we were going to beat someone up, for lack of a better term.” “Not literally! I meant metaphorically, or figuratively, or something!” “Idiomically?” “That isn’t a word, Bokuto-san.” “Jesus Christ,” Kuroo groans, dropping his head into his hands. “We're going to jail."
my notes: bokuaka and kuroo are ready to beat someone up for kenma!! and we stan!!
Cherry Pits and Cat Tattoos by strawberryriver
rating: G words: 6,141 chapters: 1/1
author summary:
Kuroo has been in communication with his soulmate ever since they were kids. They've known each other for so long that he never really worried about when or how he would meet them. At least, not until he meets the roommate of Bokuto's soulmate.Soulmate AU in which things written on your skin show up on your soulmate. Companion piece/same AU as Serendipty
--------------------
Kuroo Tetsurou liked to write on his arms. Despite his mother's half-serious warnings about “ink poisoning” or staining his skin, he insisted on marking his arms and legs wherever he could. Not like his best-friend-since-always Bokuto Koutaro, who had to write on his arms or he’d forget to breathe, but artfully. He’d draw designs, animals, the occasional chemical compound. The whole idea behind soulmates fascinated him: how one person could mark their arm and someone potentially thousands of miles away, would have that same mark appear. The amount of articles, studies, and books he’d read about the topic, even at a young age, could put an undergrad researcher to shame.
my notes: again with the soulmate au bc i cannot help myself. but really cute!!! probably gonna read this again later!
Boom, Toasted by protostar (hearthope)
rated: T words: 6,782 chapters: 1/1
author summary:
FROM: yuuji any bets on who hes texting??
FROM: eita He's smiling at his phone. Kuroo, probably
FROM: kentarou Kuroo
TO: fake family Have any of you ever once considered not prying
FROM: eita You deserve it
FROM: yuuji how can we not when ur in love!!
Kenma gets a text from an unknown number. He'd be lying if he said the guy behind it wasn't kind of endearing.
my notes: again, i love wrong number texts. it focuses more on kenma’s friendship, but kenma’s pov with texting kuroo is more than him realizing feelings and stuff. really cute, ive read it multiple times.
Japan's most subscribed by NeverNothing
rating: T words: 3,631 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Kuroo Tetsurou @blacktetsurou changed his bio : volleyball player, co-owner of Bouncing Ball Corp. and so much more ;)
my notes: i! love! social media! fics!!! really cute and basically people wondering who the mysterious kuroo is to applepi.
MATSUHANA!!! the underrated gem
texting (with a capital S) by parenthetic
rating: M words: 2,119 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Hanamaki breaks his No Texting In Class rule, and it's all downhill from there.
my notes: honestly more funny than it suggests, but its matsuhana, they’re meme lords.
rated m for by orphan_account
rated: T words: 10,692 chapters: 1/1
author summary: He should have known that there was a Specific Reason™ why it was so absolutely vital that he and Matsukawa specifically meet for a reading of the script. He should have known that there had to be some evil catch beyond sitting in a tiny, cramped studio with his newly sworn enemy.
Hanamaki stares at the title of the script he’d so gracefully neglected the night before.
FORBIDDEN PARADISE
“Excuse me,” Hanamaki starts, raising a pen in the air while staring blankly at the packet in his free hand. “Just to clarify, you want me to record a boy's love CD with Matsukawa?”
my notes: a very good voice actor au. there is some misunderstanding on hanamaki’s part bc he didnt finish listening to matsukawa, and this is really cute and i love matsuhana.
In A Quiet Night, All Sounds Carry by levyovochka
rating: E words: 4,794 chapters: 1/1
authors summary: “Ah, ah, Too—!”
Hanamaki hates his university dorm.
“—ru, let me cum, please!”
Hold up. That’s a fucking understatement. Let him rephrase it: Hanamaki loathes his university dorm with passion. Detest the damned abomination, abhors it—
“—ru! Coming, coming—”
It has only been a month and Hanamaki already wants to die.
my notes: as u can guess minor iwaoi // rlly well written and bottom hanamaki rights and maybe my favourite matsuhana smutfic??? and hooh boy i simp for matsukawa
call me maybe by totooru
rating: T words: 33,689 chapters: 14/14
author summary: Hanamaki texts the wrong number when trying to extort tips out of Oikawa in order to defeat Iwaizumi in arm wrestling, and then continues to text the witty stranger who had answered.
my notes: minor iwaoi, daisuga, bokuaka // god i think this is my favourite matsuhana fic overall, maybe in general, but my god is it great. this is probably a common rec, but its understandable as to why it is. basically au where makki texts matsun (who goes to karasuno) instead of oikawa for tips to beat iwaizumi at an arm wrestling match. but they keep messaging. and holy shit i love their conversations. please read this, it is 256/10
there we go!! i might go a part two with more ships (kagehina, tsukkiyama and iwaoi) but this took up way to much time lol. i have an essay due in a couple hours. but hope u like these fics as much as i do!!

here is a post of Why I Like Nanamaru Sanbatsu which may or may not also be a Reasons Why You Should Watch Nanamaru Sanbatsu but it’s not made with the intent of persuasion and more of me just gushing over things because this isn’t spoiler friendly
1) Niche Sport
I’m not a stranger to “Sport but it doesn’t involve Ball or Sweat”. That’s a lie, the players sweat a lot in Chihayafuru. The fact that Sasaijma (and then another character in the later chapters in the manga) refer to Karuta is a reason enough to pick up the series. Hikaru no Go was one of my earlier sports anime as well. It’s not like I was a fan of Go or Karuta either but the way the characters wholeheartedly loved what they were doing (and competitively), it made me love it as well. The same definitely goes for Quiz Bowl. While the two I listed were something I completely had no clue how the rules go, Quiz Bowl is a bit more obvious so it’s easier to get into.
(kinda hate these promo pics because there looks like so many fcking charas but really you just need to remember like 5 of them)
2) Nerdy Protag in a Sports anime
Actually coming from YowaPeda, Crunchyroll recommended this amongst other things. YowaPeda did the trope a lot better, given that you’d never associate an Otaku with Biking while a Bookworm being associated with Quiz Bowl does not seem unheard of. But the idea of a nerdy protagonist in a competitive sport was still an allure.
And oops, I think Koshiyama is a cutie so there’s a huge bias towards that. The fact that Horie Shun who voices Enta Jinnai from Sarazanmai voices Koshiyama Shiki gave me a laugh and he actually fits his role very well. Further emphasizes his cuteness without Enta’s weird gay crush lol
3) Ishikawa Kaito
I’m not above watching anime for seiyuu reasons alone but I actually went in blind with this series and to my surprise one of my favs was in it. I’d known Kaito mostly for Kageyama Tobio first, but he’s gone through so many other roles that I enjoy (Kaki from Pokemon SM, Iida from BokuHero, Mimura Subaru from 2.43) and I’ve watched a lot of seiyuu events/radios with him so I’m just a big fan of him in general. Dunno if I should have just merged this point with the next but-
4) Mikuriya Chisato
Kaito has The Range and can do whatever role he wants (I’m most impressed by his role as Alan from BNA) but I think I have a weakness for when he’s slightly an asshole. Mikuriya gave off the generic rival trope, which he kind of is. I got some Subaru vibes from him as well. I don’t know if he’s canonically handsome, but yes I think he’s very good looking for an anime character. Plus the fact that he’s The Cool Guy but is participating in such a sport as Quiz Bowl. AND the moe gap that is his feminine sounding first name and the possibility that he might also actually be an otaku is 👌👌👌👌
My friend had tagged something with him as “Chazz Princeton with a haircut” and while Not Entirely, he is the “We are not friends, we are rivals but I interact and help you enough that we are practically friends but i will continue to deny it” and I love that trope. The way he’s so not interested in Gorls or Nonsense reminds me of Manga Manjoume, though nowhere as serious because he is not above nonsense himself.
5) Fukami Mari
The moment she was introduced, I had very low expectations for her. Of course she is the one that drags Koshiyama into the Quiz Bowl world BUT she doesn’t fall into the trope of “Female is very good at The Thing, BUT Newbie Male MC does it better than her almost immediately”. I’m so glad for that because as you go on with the series, she is very much an entire character and not just a female support cast.
She loves Quiz Bowl but she’s not the best or even very good at it. Her childhood friend from another school (which I was 75% betting that it was going to be a male and a potential love interest) turned out to be a female friend. Instead of “cat fight”, they are still very amicable towards each other and support each other but also acknowledge each other as rivals. The fact that Yuki had only started Quiz Bowl because of Mari but liked it enough to continue on by herself, I think that’s really great.
The anime doesn’t get to it, but she confronts her brother about why he quit Quiz Bowl and challenges him. She has her own goals and ambitions and you see her working on it. She also has her strengths and weaknesses and is a vital addition to the Buzou Quiz Team. Fukami Mari is A Good Girl and I won’t tolerate any slander towards her. The way the beginning of the series sexuallizes her via putting her and Koshiyama into generic anime situations is so uncomfortable but I’m glad they move past that later.
Also since their group isn’t technically a Club (?) Mari isn’t just Female Manager. A plus to Quiz Bowl being Co-Ed sport.
6) Quiz Questions
I like trivia. It’s a little harder to guess the questions along with the anime because you’d have to pause all the time and half the time the contestants are going to buzz in early before you hear the entire question. Unfortunately, unless you actually are a fan of random knowledge or a huge nerd, the questions might actually be hard as well. I literally only knew about 3 questions asked in the entire series and its the anime/manga related ones lol. Still, I enjoyed seeing the characters draw their conclusions and to know what each character’s strong and weak points were. (Mikuriya using Math to calculate the Day of the Week from the past was 😚👌)
7) Side Characters
The first one I’m thinking is obviously Sonohara Akira. The moment of his first appearance, I had a hunch that it wasn’t exactly as it looked. He’s a little schemer but he has his own code of ethics, so he’s not all that bad. (Also hes A Gamer, so Relatable.) The fact that he’s related to Sonohara of Asagaoka makes it all the more interesting because they're’ so different. The way everyone reacts to him is so interesting because he doesn’t take it seriously while everyone else does. My favorite interactions with him aside from the Akiba Squad are the ones with Ookura. (I actually prefer to ship them over Niina/Akira lol)
Sasajima, mysterious Quiz Master with a past related to Fukami’s brother, who used to go to the Prestigious Quiz King School. Character wise, he doesn’t seem interesting but I love his idea of what a Quiz Bowl should be. My favorite parts of a series is when they love the thing they do, and that having fun is what is the most important. Of course you have to be fairly good at the thing first to be able to enjoy yourself freely but he never brags and is a supportive senpai.
Jinko. She’s cute. That’s good enough for me lol. I guess her Electronics Thing is also pretty cool. I like seeing the Sasajimas interact.
8) Ship
Okay, well, its obvious where I fall here. I don’t remember the last time I’ve watched such a generic sport series with a one on one protag vs rival. I’m not above shipping the “obvious/main” ship, as SasuNaru and Edgewright are some of my ships. However I didn’t ship Akira/Hikaru and I don’t ship KageHina but I do ship something like Manjoume/Judai and if asked MakoHaru vs RinHaru, I’d pick the latter, so it might just be a matter of tastes and I won’t fall immediately into every “rival” ship.
So why would I ship Mikuriya/Koshiyama? Because I love it when the Cool Guy falls for the Nerd and EXTRA POINTS if the Cool Guy is also secretly a nerd too. When I mean secretly a nerd, I don’t mean Mikuriya being on quiz bowl but that he might be a closet Otaku. (ImaSaka is everything about this trope.)
Anyway, they are the main two rivals in the series, so of course they acknowledge each other. Koshiyama took it so dramatically but in the past, nobody cared about his presence, let alone think that he’s a Threat. Mikuriya is a Hot Shot and thinks he’s better than everyone but this newb with potential beat him one time (unofficially) so he’s automatically curious.
Even though it is Hot Blooded Competition, Mikuriya always seems to encourage and cheer Koshiyama on (in his own rival-y way of course) whenever he feels down about not being strong enough to compete with him. (When they were lining up for the Third round at Asagaoka) Even when Koshiyama lost, after Mikuriya had a huge handicap, Mikuriya tells him he’ll take him on anytime. The fact that he wants to do Quiz Bowl with (against) him, is practically Sports Anime confession. “I won’t wait for you, Git Gud” “Okay I will Git Gud so we can fight again” *Fist Bump* What are you guys doing.
It might just be the art style but there is a copious amount of blushing happening every time the two interact. Also that height difference!! Mikuriya is 172 while Koshiyama is 153, I fucking love it.
Uhhhh that’s about it. I would like to gush more but there’s only a few chapters of the manga that’s been fan translated and it’s not even half of what’s actually out there. (I think the manga is complete by now?) There’s only one anime season of the series, and I doubt there’s going to be more so RIP me.

_________
Should I go in? Should I say “hello”?
An internal debate was going on Kageyama Tobio’s head as to whether or not he should enter the cafe and say a pleasant greeting to an all too familiar face.
Kageyama had just returned home to Miyagi for a short vacation, the team's coach and the captain thought it would be good for everyone to take a break and go back home since they had no games coming up, so Kageyama did just that.
He arrived in the prefecture a few days ago, and today he decided it would be best to re-familiarize himself, so he went on an afternoon walk. He saw all the newly opened stores and shops and thought how strange it was to see how much Miyagi has changed while he was gone. Although, he tries to come home whenever he can, returning to the prefecture always gave him whiplash with the number of new things that would greet him.
While he was walking the familiar yet unfamiliar streets. A ball of orange hair caught his eye. There he was, Hinata Shoyo, sitting quietly in a cafe, sipping on his hot beverage while scrolling through his phone.
Kageyama suddenly felt his heart stop and his blood go cold. What was he doing here? He wasn’t really expecting him to bump into any of his old friends this early on his vacation, let alone his ex-boyfriend.
Kageyama and Hinata started dating around the end of their first year of high school. The memories they shared weren’t all that sweet, as all relationships do, but that didn’t mean Kageyama cherished them any less. He loved every second he spent with Hinata, and he knows Hinata felt the same as well. Unfortunately, their love story was cut short after only three years. After high school, the two went on different volleyball teams, traveling to different countries, and becoming too busy for each other and to handle their relationship. Soon, the distance and the lack of time drove them apart. Kageyama knew that, so he did what he thought was best for both of them.
“I’m sorry, Shoyo, I love you, but we’ve become too busy for each other. I’m not able to be there for you, and you aren’t either.” Kageyama said solemnly.
“I know, I’m sorry,” Hinata replied with his head bowed, not wanting to show Kageyama his tear-filled eyes. He didn’t really protest to Kageyama’s statement. He knew their relationship was falling apart and what was happening was inevitable, but that didn’t make it hurt any less.
Kageyama cupped Hinata’s face and looked him in the eyes, “There’s nothing for you to be sorry for, this is just something we couldn’t control.”
Hinata simply nods as a reply as he was pulled into the black-haired boy’s warm embrace.
Kageyama kissed the top of Hinata’s head one last time and pulled away, “I have to go now. Goodbye Shoyo, I love you,” Kageyama walked away without turning back, without sparing Hinata another glace, for he knows if he saw that midget’s crying face he would just run back to him, tell him to forget everything that he just said.
Even after their break up the two remained in good terms and in occasional contact, only texting to greet one another a happy birthday or a happy holiday, and to congratulate them on their recent win they read about on the news or on social media. Hinata always seems to find his way into Kageyama’s late-night thoughts, always wondering how he was doing, if he was okay, if he was thinking of him too. He often wondered how things would be if he didn’t break up with his orange-haired lover; would they still actually be together, would they be happy, or would they still break up but on a later date?
Kageyama repeatedly told himself that it wasn’t healthy for him to keep thinking about him. He told himself that he should move on from that chapter of his life, to focus on his volleyball career, and to stop thinking about that could’ve been. He should just stop thinking about him. Despite all of his scolding, here he is now, two years after their break up, going inside the cafe and walking up to his ex-boyfriend.
“Oy, dumbass,” Kageyama said with absolutely no regard for the children inside the cafe.
Hinata turned around and was surprised to see Kageyama with his usual stoic expression, “Tobio! I didn’t know you were here, when did you arrive?” Hinata asked as he got up from his seat and approached Kageyama.
“Around three days ago, what about you?” Kageyama replied.
“A week ago,” Hinata said cheerfully.
At first, they just stood there talking about how long it’s been and about how Hinata was simply just waiting for someone to arrive, but then Hinata asked Kageyama if it was okay for him to sit with him and continue their conversation back at his table since Hinata noticed how their meeting was interrupting the peace of some of the cafe’s patrons.
After Kageyama ordered something to drink and returned to Hinata’s table. The two talked about Hinata’s time in Rio, and how he bought too much sunscreen and now he has no way of finishing it now. They also talked about how Kageyama was now a part of the Schweiden Adlers and what it was like teaming up with Ushijima and Hoshiumi. Hinata also mentioned that he joined the MSBY Black Jackals and how ecstatic he was about being in the same team with Atsumu, Sakusa, and especially, Bokuto.
They talked for what seemed like hours, in Kageyama’s head, and truthfully he didn’t want their little meeting to end. Everything felt so natural to him, it was like they were never even apart. Kageyama was really enjoying the time he was spending with Hinata, he feels as if he hasn’t felt this happy and at peace in a long time. And surely Hinata wouldn’t mind seeing Kageyama again, it’s not as if they ended badly anyway.
As Kageyama was about to ask Hinata out for lunch tomorrow, he was interrupted by a man who barged into the cafe panting and had a very disheveled look. He looking around very frantically as if he was looking for someone. His eyes scanning all over the café until they landed upon the place where Kageyama and Hinata were seated, and his eyes quickly lit up.
“Shoyo!” the man said in the sweetest tone as he ran towards the two. Hinata turned around to see where the source of the voice came from but was quickly met with a sweet kiss.
The man pulled away and brought Hinata in his warm embrace, “I’m sorry, I kept you waiting for so long, there was a problem at the last station and my phone died right as I was about to text you.”
Hinata chuckled at the man’s distressed tone and pulled away from his embrace, “It’s alright, babe, I had someone to keep me company”.The man raised his eyebrows curiously until Hinata pointed to Kageyama’s direction. He looked at the man his boyfriend was talking about and was met with a shocked Kageyama
“Oh! Tobio-kun! I didn’t know you were back,” He said in his usual cocky voice and flashed his signature smirk. He wrapped his arm around Hinata’s shoulders and continued, “Thank you so much for keeping my Shoyo company”.
Kageyama couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He was pretty sure he looked like a fish out of water with his mouth opening and closing, trying to come up with something to say. But no matter how much he raked his brain, he still couldn’t think of anything to say.
“Well, we’ll be going now Tobio-kun! See you around.” He took Hinata’s hand in his as the two lovers walked out of the cafe, leaving Kageyama alone in the table he and Hinata shared not too long ago, leaving him to watch the love of his life be whisked away by Atsumu Miya.
