Just want to thank you for all of this glorious meta! It's kinda crazy to read your pics and go, well this is an EXPERIENCE, and then come to your tumblr and see all those tiny little things that haven't really been addressed yet or you've wondered about? Well, no, actually the author has an extremely detailed world building for why it's like this, they simply have the restraint to not put it in their fic! Absolutely wild.

Like, I was kind of wondering reading pez WHY izuku and 1-a was so famous. And why aizawa is so tired. Like, surely it can't just be Main Character Gravitational Pull in action?? But no, I unknowingly triggered the authors trap card—actually having fully detailed world building that hasn't been inserted into your fic yet, because it hasn't been relevant or necessary. I feel like I tripped on a rock and discovered a gold vein.

(this applies to nhthcth too. I thought Jon claimed desks, badgered people to quit, and got a virus email address out of pettiness, and also the faint hope of saving a person maybe. And probably yes to all of that, but also he's been actively attempting to figure out that dumb contract.)

I’m this close to just saying “fuck it”’and writing the Battle of Yokohama because I love the backstory that much. It’s just filled with so many good moments. I’m trying to resist because if I write that backstory I’m gonna feel compelled to write the rest of them. I have one for Mirio getting his license (that I actually am the most likely to write out of all of them) and one explaining why Dabi left the League that I simply do not have time to write. But maybe the Yokohama and Mirio ones. I’m just eternally succumbing to the desire to make my fics series and I need to pump the breaks on it. Pez was supposed to be the story that I could freely cram in backstory like an overstuffed turkey but even I can’t bring myself to do it if it’s 1) too big of a divergence/not relevant to what’s going on or 2) not the right POV to bring out the information through.

There are some moments from the Battle of Yokohama that have already come out (Shinsou talking about how he watched Izuku bite a man’s ear off once? Battle of Yokohama. And obviously the times where it was explicitly referenced in a post are about that fight) or will come out in pez, so I haven’t talked about them on tumblr, but there’s so many fantastic moments that just wouldn’t be right to present in the fic. I’m so tempted. It’s such a fun story.

But yeah. I wanted the overwhelming attention on Izuku & Co. because I wanted Tiny Izuku to just be. Crushed by the sheer size of him when he found out what happened. Izuku is one of the most famous and beloved people out there, and he’s just a deku. How could he expect anyone to give a shit about this guy killing him? Everyone already wants him dead so he’ll stop being a burden—this guy made his death matter.

But I needed a reason for them to be as stupidly famous as they are. So I decided class 2a just had like. The most ridiculous two weeks of their life in their second year. Part of the reason why they’re not super aware of what made them famous was that so much goddamn stuff happened in that two week span. There’s a lot to pick from. The Sports Festival. Bakugou getting his first meme and also a medically induced coma. Suddenly everyone wants to fight Izuku about Mirio even more now and he is always down to fight for his boy. Oh fuck oh fuck time to have like ninety near death experiences and an extended hospitalization. Huh why is Mr. Aizawa unplugging the WiFi router and confiscating the tv. It’s probably nothing.

And Jon. Oh I love him. He’s just a rat in an electrified maze trying to figure out why all the doors are zapping him. He’s so tragic to me.

anyway. tobiizu au in which they're both sort of using each other but they both benefit so it's fine. specifically Izuna is like wow I'm so good at this we'll totally be able to defeat the Senju with this info/help! we've already managed to separate them from some of their allies! meanwhile Tobirama is there like I'm going to get a good mark in betraying my clan, something that is normal to want and possible to achieve-

(He's using Izuna to get rid of Butsuma's loyalists and/or members of his clan that can't be trusted/are far too casual about committing crimes that Tobirama and or his brother are Not Cool With. The allies that Izuna destroyed Senju relations with were actively betraying the Senju clan anyway but Tobirama hadn't been able to convince Butsuma that a) he was telling the truth about the betrayal and b) they should break that alliance off before it irreparably fucked them over)

Arguably Tobirama is kind of winning at the whole game of manipulating each other because like he's getting everything he wants, politically speaking. The Senju aren't exactly in a better situation than before he started leaking info to/helping Izuna (Butsuma's loyalists + war criminals or not, fucking over or outright killing members of your own clan is still not optimal) but nor are they in a worse situation (a lot of problems are being solved. mostly by telling the Uchiha "look at this shiny important thing" to get them to destroy whatever the problem is, admittedly). When Tobirama's finished with Izuna, Butsuma will be dead, Hashirama will be able to smoothly take over the Senju clan without significant loss in power/resources/reputation, and then Hashirama will be able to properly seek peace with the Uchiha who might even accept because they probably feel like they're winning/the Senju are losing

This isn't to say that Izuna is LOSING at the manipulation game, exactly? Like he may be unknowingly helping the Senju clan, but he's also NOT in any way fucking over his own clan, if anything he is also helping his own clan and like once they make peace (he will probably pitch a bit of a tantrum about this and possibly have to be bribed with a marriage to Tobirama or something, but it WILL be happening Izuna get over it-) any advantage the Senju have will kind of also be the Uchiha's by extension. So as far as the political + resource etc side of things go, Tobirama is definitely winning, but Izuna isn't quite losing

Also I think Izuna is definitely winning on a more personal level lmao he essentially has Tobirama wrapped around his finger by the end of all this. He's getting a lot of wins as far as their relationship kind of stuff and also getting Tobirama to do random tasks for him/his clan and prove his devotion/loyalty like noooo of course Tobirama isn't secretly a double agent for the Senju whatttt look he did all your random tasks and he loves you so much! So yeah Izuna is winning on the personal front. Though at least some of the time I think Tobirama definitely knows that Izuna is like, blatantly angling for something and plays along anyway despite not actually falling for it, which actually pleases Izuna even more

Hashirama does not know any of this is happening btw. Madara does, and most of the Uchiha for that matter (Izuna couldn't avoid fessing up to where he was getting all the info/how he was achieving things at a certain point) but Hashirama? Hashirama is in the middle of staging a coup + building up his own power base whilst simultaneously trying to convince Butsuma he's totally still loyal to him. Hashirama trusts Tobirama entirely so when Tobirama was like "don't worry Anija, you focus on our allies and I'll focus on dealing with our enemies" Hashirama essentially just went "okay <3 yay <3" and didn't think of it again for just, ages. If his brother says he's dealing with it he will! Tobirama is so smart and sneaky after all-

Can't decide if it's funnier if in the end it comes out that Hashirama had absolutely no clue what Tobirama was doing for him or if he's in like peace negotiations with the Uchiha and just rolling with it like yes obviously I knew about that thing my baby brother did last summer he acted with my full authority at all times (has no idea what event Madara is even referring to)

It's important to me that at some point when they're still Very Much at war and the Uchiha don't yet know what's going on with Tobirama seemingly switching sides, Izuna goes on a solo mission. Tobirama is also on a solo mission (may be a fake self-assigned mission or he may have just completed the actual mission way faster than anticipated and then not gone back to the clan yet after finishing) so he could meet Izuna. A couple of Uchiha had had another mission in vaguely the same area as Izuna and so decided "hey since we're meant to finish our missions around the same time why don't we find Izuna and all go home together?"

And that's how one or more unprepared Uchiha walk into a room only to see the White Demon of the Senju sprawled at their heir's feet on a rug by the fire, looking completely unphased by Izuna fucking with his hair/outfit whilst he recites Senju patrol routes (???) and weak points of the agreement the Senju have with an allied clan (?!?!) and their heir looks very pleased with himself but...not like any of this is a surprise occurence?...

Izuna and the Demon seem to notice them at the same time and the Senju cuts off his recitation in favour of them both staring at the Uchiha squad. Who stare back. After a few moments the Uchiha squad kind of awkwardly give a quick bow to Izuna and blurt out something about "nice to see you're fine after your mission see you back at the compound UH bye!" and just. Close the door and leave

(They can just about hear Tobirama resuming his recitation as they exit the building)

This au ends with Konoha being formed partially on the basis of a marriage alliance (Izuna demands Tobirama be given to him and his request is basically immediately granted (Hashirama still doesn't 100% know all of what's been going on but he HAS managed to extract the information from Tobirama that he's been sort of kinda courting Izuna for years and the Uchiha had technically helped make peace, and that Tobirama "wouldn't object" if Izuna really wanted Tobirama's hand which from Tobirama is BASICALLY a full on romantic proposal with fireworks and all. If that's what his baby brother wants then that's what he gets!! Hashirama is so happy everyone's getting their happy ending <3) and it's all good

It should also be noted here that the Uchiha clan as a whole are mildly bewildered by this. Like they're not going to SAY anything because this works for them but... The Senju want to give them/Izuna Tobirama? Really? Are we just, ignoring the bit where Tobirama was actively betraying their clan for literal years, via Izuna? Okay then...

(The Senju don't care or are actively happy about it because at this point they're mostly composed of people who either simply do not give a shit about politics in general or the whole "betrayal" thing in particular, or like Hashirama view the "betrayal" as Tobirama actually doing the ultimate risky play to free them from Butsuma's Terrible leadership and bring them peace. The few dissidents are for the most part smart enough to keep their fucking mouths shut and those that don't learn quickly)

Anyway Konoha is set up with Senju and Uchiha being equal to each other (and other clans are also there + equal etc but that's not that important rn) and it's all good it's nice. There's actually very little trouble from warmongers or anything in either of the two founding clans? In the Senju they're mostly either afraid of retaliation (they're Aware of a tiny bit about what happened to Butsuma's followers okay) or have reluctantly been won over to "wow we're doing better than we were before, and I guess Hashirama+Tobirama aren't as bad as I thought...okay. I don't like this but I can live with it and see what they do next. On the Uchiha side of things, those who are still like "grrrrr kill all Senju blah blah blah" are mostly under the impression (due to the whole "betrayal" thing, the fact that Hashirama handed his brother over to him, etc) that they've actually successfully subjugated the Senju and the morons just don't realise it. This is factually incorrect but everyone else in the village has decided it's easier to not correct them about this because then the bitter bastards might start actually causing problems for peace; let them live in their delusions

Izuna gets Tobirama as his wife and absolutely tries to push any and every boundary and just generally get his way/manipulate Tobirama into doing v minor but vaguely demeaning or inconvenient things like, all the time. Izuna is NOT as subtle about this as he thinks he is but he will likely never learn this because Tobirama indulges him constantly; he generally finds Izuna's antics to be somewhere on a scale from "this could not matter less to me and therefore I don't mind" to "sexy" to "that's really funny actually" to "that's kind of cute in a stupid way/the same way a v small child or dumb animal is"

People who care about Tobirama (for example Mito, Hashirama, Touka) MIGHT be more concerned about the fact that Izuna and Tobirama are barely even trying to hide the fact that their relationship isn't exactly typical/normal nor healthy....except they both seem really happy? Also they RECOGNISE that look of fond/amused indulgence on Tobirama's face, tho admittedly previously when they saw it it was usually aimed at like, his summons or young students or something, but still. Clearly he's not actually doing anything he doesn't want to do or that distresses him so they'll leave their brother to his bizarre relationship

(Also the occasional sheer Glee or look of mischief or smugness on Izuna's face is kind of funny. He looks like a cat that Got Away With It it's hilarious)

People on Izuna's side of things (Madara, Hikaku, etc) are considerably less at ease about this because they do Not know Tobirama enough to fully understand his expressions or realise that half the time he's knowingly going along with Izuna's bullshit for his own amusement/pleasure/curiosity. This relationship is clearly neither normal or healthy! But like, IZUNA is clearly very, very happy and is perpetrating most of the unhealthy/obsessive/weird bullshit, meanwhile Tobirama+his people don't seem to be objecting to any of this so...uh...what can they even do here??? It would be weird to try to 'save' Tobirama from Izuna right? They shouldn't do that. Or maybe they should?... They're all kind of stressed about it and Madara in particular is also just Extremely Uncomfortable bc I've decided now that Izuna+Tobirama have not actually moved out (yet?) and so he's witness to just, so much more of their bullshit than anyone else and he wants NONE OF IT thanks

So, I binged The Acolyte last night.

I had a mental block and couldn't get myself to start while it was coming out, and I also haven't touched any High Republic era media before which made me hesitant. But the spoilers/gifs/fanart etc I saw convinced me I should give it a try.

I'm not a huge fan of binging, I like sitting and thinking with each episode, so I expected to just watch an episode or two, give it a day or so, then continue if I liked it.

But, to my great surprise, once I started, I couldn't really stop (aaand stayed up till 7 AM, oops).

I think it had several things going for it:

-The acting was genuinely phenomenal. I feel like I would have felt completely differently about the show if different actors had been involved, and i mean that more strongly than I usually do. Their delivery in certain moments really sold me.

-It's not your usual Star Wars genre. I'd consider it mystery/suspense with a touch of horror, and it really does come together. Some of the characters are experience a more stereotypical Star Wars action/adventure story, but are jerked out of their genre at certain moments. It's pretty neat, and makes the twists fun and interesting (even if you were completely spoiled beforehand, like me lol)

-The costumes were gorgeous and unique.

-Some truly gorgeous cinematography, shots that have beautiful composition and lighting.

-It was rich in lore and references, some from Legends that I caught, many from the High Republic that I didn't catch but appreciated nonetheless. It felt deeply connected to the SW Universe.

-While cynical, the writing says things that I've thought about but never really thought Star Wars would have the guts to say. The writing is also Tight, meaning that little moments of character interactions bring up things that will be necessary/helpful to the plot later, and I appreciated that. There felt like very little waste.

-There are genuinely no "good" or "bad" guys. Every character makes mistakes or has horrible qualities, yet also positive ones. We see and understand motives, even if we don't agree with them, and see the fallout of those actions. This made almost everyone compelling. The narrative and writing gives the audience space to think.

Things that I wasn't as much a fan of:

-I felt like most of the sets felt kind of generic and Earth-like, especially in comparison to the rich costumes and alien characters.

-There are some fantastic fight scenes and emotional scenes, where the acting and cinematography was fantastic, but I wish the music had been a bit more memorable. I can't really recall any of it, and I feel like there were scenes that could have been truly iconic had the music resounded more with me.

Now, some more specific thoughts, SPOILERS below:

On Sol:

Sol is a character who, I believe in most cases, I would have absolutely despised. But holy shit, Lee Jung-jae. I am not exaggerating when I say that his performance is perhaps one of the best, if not THE best performances I've ever seen in live action Star Wars. He played this character so tenderly, so genuinely.

Despite being misguided, having made terrible decisions, and making mistakes that even he acknowledges, Sol himself always truly thought he was doing what was right, and loved Osha with his whole being even at the end, and it Shows. The way he looks at Osha was so sincere.

This is why I can't get myself to hate Sol as a character. It makes me feel so conflicted, like how can a guy with so much love and genuine desire to help and do good go so wrong? And that, I think, is one of the major points of the show, and Lee Jung-jae absolutely sells it. What a phenomenal actor. You could genuinely watch this show for him alone.

On Osha/Mae:

When the first info/promos for Acolyte came out and Amandla Stenberg was announced as the main character, I admit I was a bit confused. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't that I thought she couldn't act, but it's just that her face is so kind. She looks so warm (and gosh, she's so beautiful), but it made me go hmm, she looks like a Good Guy Protag, a Hero, so I was a bit confused as to how she was going to lead "the Acolyte," which from the title, I assumed she'd be Dark Side. Even with the early promo scenes of Mae fighting Indara, I wasn't really sold on her being "Dark."

And it turns out, that was exactly the point of the casting.

Amandla was perfect, and was brilliant at portraying two characters who not only have different and distinct personalities, but also both shift and change throughout the show. Mae never came off as "Dark" to me, because she isn't. Osha's not necessarily Light OR Dark, but she's independent. They are balanced, yet cycling, reminiscent of that little palm-to-palm circling ritual that the girls do. Amandla's portrayal of them was poetry, and made me so very invested in them.

I think if there's one thing I really wish the show had included more of, it's both Osha and Mae's pasts between their tragic separation and their reunion in the present. What was Osha's Padawan-ship actually like? I feel like the exact reason for the timing of her leaving the Order was ambiguous, and I wanted to know more. And was Mae with "the Master" the entire time?

I truly wish Osha could have heard the full story from Sol, because of his many crimes, ironically, killing her mother really was a genuine accident. There are things I wish he could have apologized to her for, or that she could have understood about him, such as how that night at the coven was largely driven by how Sol felt connected to her. This is one part where, while I get how the writers went this way, I do wish I could have felt more closure to their relationship.

I found it so tragic that Qimir erased Mae's memories and they had to be separated so soon after finally understanding each other. I really hope that if there's a season 2, they can be reunited.

On Qimir:

Preface by saying I was spoiled regarding his identity long before I started, by all those thirsty posts/tweets. And man, I GET IT.

But thirst magnet aside, I found him a genuinely fascinating character. For one thing, he's kind of an ironic character to *be* a Darksider. He seems so chill and laid-back, is honorable (or at least keeps his word), and despite his words about using emotions to harness energy, we don't really see him passionately mad/anything really. In contrast, the Jedi we see around him are furious, scared, sad. It's interesting that he almost seems more calm, but not necessarily because he's trying: he just doesn't care.

Manny Jacinto's portrayal of the character made him so damn Likable. Which, is pretty hard to reconcile with the fact that I genuinely liked Jecki and Yord, but a lot of his lines make me just go, y'know he's got a point. Like the whole, "She was a child," "You brought her here." Like yeah. Honestly, fair. His little quips, the delivery, the I'm-just-a-chill-dude attitude, actually keeps his word, and on the flip side, undeniable ruthless skill and viciousness that took down a whole team of Jedi single-handedly. It's a very BRRRRRR combo.

In general, I don't really get too attached to "Dark Side" characters, and don't really have a favorite Sith. Or at least, I didn't, but I think Qimir (or whatever his actually name is) might claim that spot now. Truly peak character, I truly hope we get to see more with him.

And this is kind of an aside, but can I just say, it felt unreal to have entire fight sequences focussing on just two Asian actors, with the other protagonist we see a black girl, for huge chunks of the show? No white people except comparatively brief side characters? In a Star Wars show?!?? All of them unique and well fleshed out and phenomenally written and acted?? None of it felt like "forced diversity," it's all so natural, that when I step back and thought about it in these terms it just...again, feels unreal. I'm so grateful for these characters, and hope we get more like them.

On Jecki and Yord:

Honestly given what I saw about Yord before hand, I was expecting him to be far more annoying than he was. Sure, he was a little stiff, but he felt like a young Jedi Knight who was trying to prove himself and do his best, and I think he very clearly did care for Osha.

Jecki, gosh I loved her. She felt very similar to Ahsoka, if a bit more by the book. She was very wise for her youth. I loved the budding friendship between her and Osha, how they helped each other and weren't jealous.

The thing about both of these characters, which I think the writers did so well, is that they felt like protagonists. In another story, they would have been the main characters, the heroes. Both of them were so young, so early in their training/careers. They could have become Obi-Wans, Ahsokas. Jecki especially was bursting with so much potential.

But alas, this was not that story. It makes it that much shocking when their lives are cut so abruptly short. We were given time to get to know these characters, to care for them, and then without much fanfare, boom. Gone.

On one hand, I sorta Hate That. On the other, I deeply respect the writers for going there, because I think it did have an Impact on the story and show.

On the Witches/Mother Aniseya:

Admittedly I was a little ehhhhh on some of the world-building regarding the witches, just the use of the words "witch" and "coven" and some of the chanting with gasping cackling women etc felt a bit caricature. I do get that they wanted us to have a vibe for this group and to get one with limited screentime, and sometimes stereotypes are the way to do that. I didn't love it, but also didn't mind it too much.

I actually really loved Mother Aniseya. For one thing, the actress is Gorgeous, her costume stunning, and she really sold the whole otherworldly ethereal immortal goddess vibe well, in a way that still felt Star Wars. For the other, I liked how she was the soft, empathetic one, it kinda contrasted with expectation of her position.

I also loved Mother Koril, and how again, she was designed as a character foil to Mother Aniseya. I love how we didn't see too much of them, but could still see that they were partners who loved and respected each other (I hesitate to say "wives," because I feel like their society may not exactly have the same concept of marriage, but partners was undeniable). I think it was a neat Oh moment when they stated that Mother Koril is the one who carried the twins. Love them.

I know I'll have more thoughts, but yeah, to sum it up, I enjoyed Acolyte a ton more than I thought i would, and am so glad I gave it a chance.

Other things:

-Mentioned earlier that I love "little moments of character interactions bring up things that will be necessary/helpful to the plot later." Some actual examples of this: When we see Sol noticing Osha's tattoo and Osha saying he must hate it, which in the moment, shows the kind of guardian-student relationship they have, and how little seems to have changed for them in the time they've been a part. Later, it's shown to clearly identify Osha after Mae steals her clothes. Another is the rolly polly moth things, which at first seem just like a way to show This Forest Dangerous, but then are a plot point to temporarily escape from Qimir, and later on, to show Vernestra's connection to the Force (and also her light whip). Stuff like that, I really like.

-I so appreciated Qimir's Cortosis helmet. For one thing, it's neat that it's not just cool-looking or a disguise, but actually is Force-blocking. I think an official SW account factoid said that this is also how beskar works, though beskar is stronger. The two effects this has: when the user is wearing it, they're forced to confront what's inside of them. The other, is that it hides the wearer's identity from Force users who would otherwise recognize them. The latter is my personal headcanon for beskar helmets, so it's very gratifying to see it in canon! The former has some interesting implications for Force-users who wear beskar.

-The cynical view of the Jedi Order as an Institution, and all the politics, corruption, and obscuring of dirt that that entails. Admittedly this may be because of my own increasingly cynical perspective on the Order, but it felt honest and I agreed with most of it. The fact that individuals are trying their best to do "good" does not negate the fact that they are pretty much acting as Space Cops. This line by Senator Rayencourt felt especially raw:

"I think the Jedi are a massive system of unchecked power, posing as a religion, a delusional cult that claims to claim the uncontrollable. [] Your emotions."

Framed as a religion having unchecked power—that feels uncomfortably realistic! And also zeroing in on how for all their power, the Jedi are still people, and just as fallible (and therefore, must necessarily be held just as accountable).

Also:

I can see how this portrayal of the Jedi may make some folks uncomfortable, especially if you love the Jedi, but I long hold that the Jedi as an organization are deeply flawed. It's part of why I personally like the "fall of the Republic" era; both the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order have deep, fatal flaws, and this is an era where that all comes to a head—one where they must fall, or fix themselves.

So in conclusion, my favorite parts: the characters, and the moral grayness of almost everyone. Many stories may claim there's no good/evil dichotomy, but few ever truly show it, but this one did.

I'm not sure yet if I want to "fandom" over this or if I'm pretty satisfied with having just watched it, but it was definitely worth the watch and I'm glad I gave it a try!

wanna know some puckpocketed deep lore? i've never been one to make OCs. i was just not a very creative kid tbh. spent all my time drawing sailor moon instead. i still go back to her sometimes because she is one of my favourite shapes in the WORLD!!

I briefly dated someone who was very into streetwear and fashion, and I fell down a techwear/gorpcore/cyberpunk rabbit hole for a couple days out of curiosity. i remember literally zero salient info on any of it except the broad strokes of silhouetting and Vibes. what i emerged with, however, was a ?? sorta OC?? im not sure what to call them. they dont rly have a name or gender. Here are my most recent explorations (i have been doing SOOOO much art. <3) which include:

unfinished character sheet + chibi art. I played with their jacket (much more structured/square/tailored thing) and added a lotta random buckles and belts. i took textiles class years ago and have a little experience in garment construction. and i know for a fact this thing does not make any sense. it hurts me to look at a little bit LMAO so i've paused it while i go draft patterns (badly. i was never good at drafting. i think i may have to break out my scrap fabric stash and hand sew a real life mock-up. HELP!)

here is me having fun with them and imagining them as some kind of cyber-fisherman. the best part of every game is the fishing mini-game to me. i love fishing mini-games so much. I made their hair really big because i wanted them to have big unwieldy hair and the vibes told me i should add more movement to the piece aside from the fishing line. I messed with their jacket AGAIN because i can't stop thinking about what kinda jacket they'd wear. gorp-core ? idk. it sure is something!

Hallritt: Geraniums

Merold: Roses and dahlias

Rimicha: Sunflowers and birds of paradise

Each of the flowers have a meaning and were specially chosen to match their Fragaria. We hope you can have fun thinking about why each flower was chosen!"

Geraniums symbolize a lot of things, but I think friendship and peace are the most important meanings when they relate to Hallritt and his Minna Nakayoku mindset. In the Victorian era, though, they instead symbolized foolishness; the mark of someone careless with their actions. (Also for those of you into astrology, geraniums are also the flower of Scorpio, which he just so happens to be. Take that as you will?)

Roses have an obvious meaning even if you don't care about flower symbolism; love. And that's fairly obvious for Merold's feelings about Melody. The colors themselves also have meanings, though; the white rose in his bouquet symbolizes purity and innocence (Melody is pretty pure and innocent), and light pink symbolizes happiness and admiration. Similarly, dahlias are a symbol of devotion and love, with white ones sharing a similar meaning to white roses.

Merold also has white lilies in his bouquet, which goes unmentioned in the answer for some reason... Another flower meaning purity, but it also represents commitment.

Sunflowers are a symbol of happiness, strength and loyalty, while birds of paradise symbolize joy, faith and freedom. I spent too much of my energy rambling about the other two, so I don't have a lot to say for Rimicha and his flowers... I know in my heart, though, that they suit him perfectly. Give that boy some happiness! He deserves it!

YOUR MELODY - QUESTION 2

"What's the meaning behind 'As more and more things break, I become cowardly, but I'm still so happy I dance on the staff'? Why is he 'happy to become a coward'?"

The question is referring to Merold's solo part at the start of the second chorus. Starts at 2:16. Translating song lyrics is absolutely NOT my forte so take the phrasing with a little more salt than the rest.

"The more important something is, the more timid and scared we become when we begin to think it might be broken or lost. At the same time, having something that important to you is such a joyful and precious thing that it can feel like a melody is playing in your heart. For Merold, the lyrics say that something like that exists for him."

All I'm gonna say here is. Yeah. They're right.

"This song is characterized by its poetry readings. Was there anything important that was kept in mind when deciding on the lines to be read?"

This question refer to the parts of the song where the knights speak in full sentences as opposed to singing.

"The poetry is read in parts divided between Willmesh, Louterstella and Myunna, but the meaning is retained even when read as a whole. It was created carefully to ensure its content would match Willmesh's worldview. However, even though the song has such attention to detail, each part read by the characters also conveys something they themselves resonate with. Please listen to them again with this in mind."

Focusing on Myunna and Louter specifically since every line resonates with Will in some way. The first readings are "Even if we're apart, no matter where you are" "If we believe in each other, we can communicate". Second readings are "I want to watch the scenery change with you" "I want to capture the unchanging beauty". Take these as you will.

Also Chiba-san starts emphasizing the "meru" part of the song's title around here due to the next question. I still get a laugh out of him going "Haikei, akatsuki soMERU! nijiyo" lol.

Goddds, yes, sooo curious to see the new aesthetic, too. Please, give us some info!

The mask thing: I spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at the Masks for drawing him (and autism reasons) and theres a ton of differences between them (especially between the Cardi masks, but thats not the topic here now). The chapter mask is one of the earlier Popia masks and I dont know, it's just weird, the overall shapes are a bit worse than my preferred ones (the 2023 EU/early US mask and the one from the LA shows onward), the crooked hairline etc etc.

The main reason why he opted for the new mask ("surgery") was because TF was feeling claustrophobic in the much more tighter fitting masks before that (thats why those had much better articulation (like, 2018 copia looked like a real dude in both the masks there! it's really good! but also many of terzos masks, even if they almost squeezed his ear off), fit nicer around the mouth etc, were not as huuuge as the popia head, all that) and to allow more freedom for singing (hence the big jaw). This causes a weird mouth situation (the downward turned corners of his mouth, weirder lips, the "bend" in the lower lip (as seen in profile; because of the mask being so far away from the face, pic taken from here and the other is one of Ryan C's from the Ticketmaster site, to illustrate what i mean with "bend") etc, (most of these things are hidden by the black paint when he wears the full facepaint).

the mouth is the main reason why chapter copia looks so "weird" to many and is declared "ugly"; but when you draw him, all you need to do, really, is to fix the mouth and his face works!). Which is perfectly fine for concert things - the main focus should be on him feeling fine and being able to sing as good as possible!

But for the chapters, i feel, it would be cool to have on that focuses a bit more on the expressions and realism, you know? you dont have to be able to sing for 2 hours in this one. and he does have the budget to commission a mask for the chapters, if he can afford that fancy suit

Dont want to talk too much about the copia masks, because this would cause a level 9 autism event; one day i might publish my mask guide with a timeline and highlighted differences, though, heh.

CRASHING IN AT LIGHTNING SPEEDS

I absolutely have info and I love talking about it — It’s consumed my mind as well!

I realise I haven’t really talked about one of the key aspects of the AU which is Elias and his slow descent into becoming a vessel for Jonah Magnus, albeit with a twist.

I’m always particularly fond of Swap AUs that really play around with the idea of characters in different roles, and for Elias, that meant he couldn’t simply be the Archivist. While Jon’s story revolves around humanity, Elias’ story in this AU is more an exploration of identity and how the lines blur.

I had to play around a bit with canon, give reason as to why Jonah hasn’t just taken Elias as his vessel yet or taken someone else, and is having to retreat to his old body, using the last few years it has left in it. The idea I settled on was that his vessels need to be specific, preferably someone already touched by the Eye, and a body who he Knows can withstand the shift. These potential vessels aren’t as common but he knows one will been drawn to the Institute eventually.

The problem with Elias Bouchard, is that he still has people left who would notice the change, people he’s close to - Sasha, Tim, Gwendolyn, etc. I have mentioned before that this is why he was made Head Archivist. The Archive is the most dangerous place to work and the easiest place to set Elias on the course of becoming an Avatar himself, making him even more suitable, and isolating him, whether it be through his friends dying, or him isolating himself due to the stress and/or paranoia. Anything like that really.

And, while he isn’t the Archivist, he does develop his own set of abilities, more centred on Watching, similar to Jonah. In late s2 for example, his eyes have started to adjust to Seeing, and he becomes distinctly aware of Not-Sasha, hence his attempt at attacking her with a metal pipe.

He doesn’t view these abilities as negatively as you’d think really, namely because they give him a sense of purpose, a feeling of importance and power which he has longed for his whole life. He often believes he deserved better than what he has, deserves to be respected, stemming from his relationship with his father. He only realises a little too late that what’s happening to him isn’t a good thing, and that he’s losing the people he cares most about.

It’s during his coma in s4 that the identity aspect truly comes into play.

Jonah decides this is the perfect chance to take Elias’ body, and Martin is left with the task, mainly due to Jon being in jail and Martin’s ability to go unnoticed. This is one of the things Martin would really rather avoid doing but Jon asked, and so he obliges.

It doesn’t… work out though. He’s only able to replace one eye — very clumsily at that — before someone walks in, and while they don’t see Martin, they do see the mess he’s left behind.

Elias unfortunately wakes up not long after, and Jonah decides to put the other eye on hold for a short while. He’s… curious, really. He wants to Know what will happen, what this will feel like for the both of them.

S4 is probably my favourite era of the AU solely for the exploration of Elias and Jonah and how the other characters interact with that. They don’t know what’s happened to Elias, a man who had looked an absolute mess for months, suddenly looking pristine, with his hair cut short — he’s always hated short hair — and an eye that definitely isn’t his own. I should add, before now, he’s never gone by Elias. He never liked it, mainly due to the disappointed or angry tones it was often said in by family. He insisted on being called Eli, but, in s4, suddenly he’s rather insistent on going by Elias.

It’s disturbing, to say the least, and the thing is, he’s aware something is wrong, aware he’s acting differently, that his dominant hand has changed from right to left, that his wants and beliefs are being clouded by something else, but he doesn’t know what’s happening anymore, and he doesn’t know how to convey his own distress. He’s acting in ways he otherwise wouldn’t, and it just comes naturally to him. Anytime he even considers breaking down, begging someone to hear him, to recognise he’s just as scared as they are, he’s struck with the thought he doesn’t want to do that.

Everyone tells him he’s changed, and he knows, and he can’t do anything about it.

I’ve wrote a lot already so I’ll probably go more in depth on that another time, but for now, I did actually start writing a Transcript Style thing for an interaction with Gwen, who’s convinced her brother has been replaced entirely, so I’ll share a snippet of that!

Daisy Jones and the Six show Its very cool,but I find It like that because It has 5 of my otps at once and also (just like with Twilight) for Its unexplored - I refuse to say wasted because thats what fics on ao3 are for XD- potential.

So i was moderately happy with the show (happier than with book on ships, because It has a lesbian couple, to me in a story no gays = no fun. And karengraham and Daisily are better done on the show too.)

But , thinking about that potential...

Being true to the 70's spirit , thus ignoring the book canon...Who cares anymore I ignore already canon for mostly everything XD The whole group + Camila + Simone and Bernie and Lisa should've been a polycule.

The 60's & 70's were are about experimentation and free love so, I find Its an interesting dynamic to explore. And , as no one on the fandom before had suggested It , I find It very surprising that it's not more popular, being the 70's.

(But , absolutely excluding any kind of incest between the Dunne brothers obviously- i'm saying this cause sadly i've seen It on ao3 and i'm scarred for life 🤢... I only tolerate incest on horror stories because Its horrible and horrific, which IS like the whole point of a great horror story tbh. Horror belongs in horror. )

Continuing with the polycule and as @mzannthropy said : " Dracula polycule became quite popular with Dracula daily , so you'd have thought people would all over it" (on Djats show), but no dice.

Its like they dont know or read how the 70's were...And in 70's they were popular, so i think It would've worked, i guess people nowadays is more conservative than I thought?...I don't mean conservative in a political or economical way, but in a "sexually oppresed pearl clutching praying church going righteous 50's era wife" sorta way XD . (In spanish we call them "rancios" , It means old fashioned , It literally mean spoiled food XD).

Even with my otps being my otps (mentioned above) i truly feel that they could be better written too, which i'll talk about later and fix them, if needed.

The thing that botters me is that even with my otps, I can also see the potential with other ships, then i'll Talk my otps ones.

To make things work, imagine everyone on Djats that IS heterosexual Its bisexual.

I'm excluding: Julia (Its a kid, and as Adult I don't have enough info of her Life) & Rod cause he IS smarter than to mess romantically with any of them dumb bitches (affectionately).

Let's start with the Madness :

Daisy x Warren (Dairren/ Warsy)

They could be explosive ,both funny in a very different way, so refreshing and cool. Bonus point for mixed race couple, that isn't as common on fandoms because... why? (Answer: racism).

Daisy x Graham (Daiham/Graisy) is a cool dynamic: "dark girl" with a Heart of gold who wants to becomes good... but doesn't know how x Selfless "light guy" who can help her...and they fall, imagine the scenarios. Redemption and love for her , being edgier and love for him. Billy scarred for life of his sister-in law XD.

Eddie x Daisy (Edaisy/Daiddie) are cool too, as both deserved to be chosen not used (yes I think Camila used Eddie's feelings for her, for revenge).

Then they (Daisy and Eddie) fall hard for each other and they choose each other, self-steem is praised with this ship. Also imagine Billy and Camila reactions, It would be priceless XD. Also in book Eddie liked Daisy (and gushed about her looks and her everything), not Camila. And blond ft Redhead looks pretty (shallow I know but looks influence shipping too).

Warren x Eddie (Warie/ Wardie/ Edren)

I feel they could be a chaotic funny gay one. They listen and DO judge...and mock the shit out the other couples. Plus for mixed race couple.

Karen x Billy (Kally/ Biren) :

They feel more like fuck buddies/ Friends with benefits than anything romantic, but could have a good development of independent close awkward people that sleep together so much... that somehow fall in love in between . Awkward indie movie ensues.

Camila x Graham (Camham / Gramila) :

I like the idea of them, my cousin ships them cause Will Harrison and Camila Morrone look "tan monos juntos"= sooo cuuuteee together, in the behind the scenes pics). Graham and Camila are too pure for this world and deserved better, they could find that better with each other. Plus the brothers with the same girl drama has being explored a lot , so Its possible and fun (Vampire Diaries comes to mind).

Daisy x Simone (Daimone / Simaisy):

Its a no brainer, like Simone treats Daisy the best , out of all the characters (including Bernie, her actual girlfriend!!). Daisy and Simone would be super cute. Also bonus for being a mixed race couple , which is always cool to see (and receive vitriol from fandoms, i'm looking at you The Bear and The Walking Dead fandoms!!! 😡)

Karen x Daisy ( Kaisy/ Dairen/ Karaisy /Daisen) : Two female musicians that rebel against machism in a male dominated work??? Who break molds??? And do what The fuck they wanna?? The ship writes itself . Also they look hot as fuck together.

Daisy x Bernie (Dainie/ Baisy/Beisy)

Again two female musicians, sarcastic, Rebel and groundbreaking. And plus for being a mixed couple, again i'm tired to see hate towards mixed couples...Stop racism. And you have a super feminine one (Daisy) and a tomboyish one (Bernie) for which I have a soft spot.

Karen x Simone (Karone/ Siren/ Simren) or

Simone Its softer, so you have the badass mean one (Karen) with the softie one (Simone). They have the "women breaking rules sterotypes and molds", that I dig a lot.

Karen x Bernie (Karnie/ Berren).

Bernie and Karen would be your perfect sarcastic bitchy lesbian couple Who listen and DO judge the toxic heterosexual couples while eyerolling , the force of the eyeroll would be intense on that ship. They both has the "women breaking rules sterotypes and molds", that I dig a lot.

Karen x Camila (Camren/ Karmila)

Mean tough one + soft nice one dynamic. The Blonde + brunette couple. They are besties already. They get along. They would be awesome. Camila treats Karen like a queen. Karen could be better, but Its okay.

Also they would be "Barbie couple" goals. And gets points for being mixed race couple (white + latina).

Lisa x Karen (Liren), Bernie x Lisa (Linie) , Simone x Lisa (Sisa/ Line) or Daisy x Lisa (Daisa/ Laisy/ Lisy) to explore both the cinema and the music scenes (and their fondational machism) and the fame issues with gossip press too.

Eddie x Billy (Edilly) would be epically hilarious and Hot too?? The dinamics would be: Friends to enemies -or directly frenemies- then frenemies to lovers at its finest XD . And It should be more popular here at Tumblr tbh, like Its the lgbtaq+ safe Space on Internet?? You all love gay otps being antagonistic towards each other then falling in love and then fucking each other senseless examples: Hannigram, Loustat, Daniel x Armand... hello? Did I miss something?

Billy x Nicky (Bicky/ Nilly). The amount of times i've seen here at Tumblr pairing actual enemies that would kill each other on sight , like Moriarty and Sherlock or Jonathan and Drácula or Harry Potter and Voldemort, or Robin and the Sheriff... all of them without even half a chemistry scene or anything remotely romantic between them , just puré hate, and Its too alarming to be ignored , so i leave this one here if anything for the lolz XD

Its enemies to lovers at its finest. It would be dark romance (so loved by Booktok 🙄), a dark romance so dark It would end in homicide (probably).

At least they would look hot while at It, as Sam Claflin and Gavin Drea are Hot.

Camila x Simone (Camone/ Simila) They are too pure for this world and deserved better, they could find that better with each other, they would be wholesome, cute, loving and also super well dressed. One of the few non toxic ones.

They would be "Barbie couple" goals. And gets points for being mixed race and being both POC , Its super rare seeing mixed race couples with both members being POC (not involving anyone white) and also gay, and even more rare if their WOC. So yeah bonus for being original.

Camila x Daisy (Daimila/ Camaisy) would work awesome, they could be couple goals, like if Camila can deal with Billy worst side, then she can bear with Daisy worst side.

Daisy is more selfdestructive and less grumpy dominant than Billy, so yeah, with Camila's saintly patience and Daisy vivacious Spirit they would live without much conflict (their only issue with each other was liking Billy, erase that and you have a perfect couple). They would be the perfect "Barbie style" couple, too cute and both would look super Hot. And also extra point for being mixed race couple (latina + redhead). This ship works better if you have It in a Edilly Au situation. Just imagine It XD :

Camila x Eddie (Edmila/Caddie) would work actually!!!! ....If well written, but sadly It was written catastrophically Bad, like...

I think Camila used Eddie's feelings for her, to avenge herself of Billy's infidelities on the show, that many people considered It Queen behaviour 🙄, but to me Its not : If you can't forgive him then dump him, Its one of my mottos.

Its one of the few times I truly felt sorry for Eddie, cause It was obvious that his love for her was true, Camila was wrong , I'm sorry not sorry with that plot point, go argue with a wall, if you want to cheat on your husband, at the very least be smart about It and don't do It with someone Who loves you (and that you don't love) especially knowing that he does love you... Choose an ex or a hot stranger ffs!!! (Like she did in the book...Way better).

To fix It : Camila and Eddie are Friends (they met on class if dont remember wrong). Eddie loves Camila (what else is new/ Who wouldn't). Camila liked Eddie too but both were too shy to admit it, dont wanting to lose each other as Friends, then Billy appeared and Cami fell before she and Eddie could be a real romantic thing, so she fell in love for Billy faster and harder, but Eddie Crush feelings are still there hidden...That way you have a good romantic link "The one that got away trope". Then their feelings explode after the Daisily affair. Then you can have whatever in this Au, either a divorce and everyone is Happy (or you do not have It and then you enter on Edaisy zone...)

See? That's how you do It, there I would've rotten for Edmila, create a cute crush/friendship previous link, (you can develop It with like 2 flashback scenes!!! Its not that hard), then the show scenario with them would be awesome! But It was sooo bad developed, and I think It was made on purpose to show Camila on a bad side, cause she hurt both Billy and Eddie in the process and the viewer perception about her too. It spoils her character. Ugh.

Thats why my Edmila Au its way better than canon 🤗.

Warren x Billy (Wally)

That one was hilarious to imagine XD. The serious grumpy one and the funny light-hearted one. It could work. Bonus for mixed couple. Warren can relax Billy. Billy can make Warren focus.

Teddy x Marlene (Telene/ Mardy) : He is lonely she is lonely (Hank can go fuck himself) so they start liking each other and date. In the end Billy and Graham are officially adopted by him. Everything is perfect.

And last but not least of the Au ships :

DaisyxBillyxCamilla , the love triangle

Here i'm turning a love triangle 💔 💔💔 into a throuple❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 (Daillyla/ Dailyla).

Also the three of them being together, loving each other equally, I think would be a great hippie 60's-70's scenario (well written and handled) It could be ground breaking , like The Laureate aka Laura Haddock's (Sam's ex wife) threesome/throuple movie *spoilers for that movie from here: It began awesome but the ending sucked, It was a real story btw, so nothing to do about It, sadly. End of spoilers*

In a Djats throuple Au It would have a happy ending... Because I say so.

It would be perfect and I actually dig It more and more, everyone involved would be happy (no cheap early deaths, no band breakup, getting clean sooner, awesome character dinamics : Camila : the tender love giving one learning to get things she wants, Billy : the insecure love needing leader end learning how to be vulnerable and soft giving truthfull love , Daisy : the one who defies him and who needs lots of love and self-steem learn love ,self steem and to be more empathic . There's also threesomes ...What's not to love?

And -if It had been done by the actual show- I think that they would have had more attention and audiences than they had tbh "The flesh sells" sigh XD . And maybe more nominations and God heavens...even Awards!...They lacked the imagination, or were too faithfull to the book (at least on that account).

Now with my otps :

Warrenlisa : perfect, nothing to fix. Only they should have more scenes, but that's it.

Simornie : perfect, nothing to fix. Only should have more scenes, but that's it.

Karengraham: Only issue was family wanting, they both loved each other well.

1- Make Karen change her mind about family, and then they are having family (i've met women in real life Who said they didn't want family and then got it, so Its possible). But then i'm making Graham a stay at home dad , just like Camila, but in male. Karen keeps singing (like Billy did).

Here you can, if you want , erase the whole abortion scenario in an even more Au land, but first they think It and even discuss it (you totally recover the erased/non shoot scene of Daisy's abortion post teen SA created on the show, It should've been kept tbh) creating an interesting (and still relevant) debate .

2- Or you keep canon abortion but you make Graham be a good boy as he IS, but one that IS so Not wanting kids either just like Karen, so everything Its fine; now they fit better, and stay together. They keep being together and making music too. They are couple goals and a power couple in the music industry.

Camilly : more love/romantic/tender scenes, more cute scenes (the chessier the better) more passion (yes sex scenes), and more obvious visible conection between them. No Billy-ing (sorry I couldn't resist It XD) . No secrets. Camila truly acknowdledging Billy's dark side and not putting Pink colored glasses about It.

Daisily: more physical action (yes sex scenes) , more cute tender scenes (the chessier the better), Daisy being slightly less mean (some spice its fine too much burns), Billy-ing no more (I couldn't resist It again XD), Billy admiting he loves them both way sooner, or at least being less salty about It. Daisy acknowdledging Billy loves Camila too and that he isn't with her just for Julia, but because Camila is loveable and awesome. Both trying to being the light of the other even if they feel like shit. They love each other and themselves as result.

It's so difficult to verbally describe something that we're so used to seeing visually: the gloomy shots, the dingy motels, the impala parked in front of a small town home in the rain, etc. It would be lovely to discuss on how to best write visual / cinematographic descriptions like that! Also, I'm not very good at detective-style writing, so I'm finding it quite the challenge to write a 'solve a case and defeat the monster of the week' fic.

nothing illegal obviously — other than that, aside from long-lifespan characters whose mental maturation is slower, i generally stay away from with 10+ year age gaps when the younger muse is under 20. just feels like a weird power dynamic i guess?

ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?

yes! ships on this blog cannot be pre-established — i tend to lose interest fast if they don't build up naturally, either through lots of ooc plotting or through writing. on top of that, seph is ... piiiiicky. she has very specific Types. generally, ships with very gentle, soft, mentally well-adjusted characters are possible, but transient — seph falls out of love after a point, but remains staunchly protective of them.

the long and short of the matter is she's a freak, and you kind of have to match that to be compatible as a long-term partner. but even then they don't always line up perfectly! idk. seph's weird. simultaneously very easy to ship with and very hard to ship with.

@chaoslulled oh boy(s). toji — brutally in love. they saw and embraced each other's monster, refused to shy away, and now they somehow revolve in this strange orbit of violent and incredibly soft with each other. i think he's the first of the current ship lineup that seph has in-thread said the L-word to. this ship was so easy to jump right into, the chemistry was like lightning in a bottle. satoru — one of the most genuinely unexpected slowburn ships i've stumbled into. these two read each other for filth INSTANTLY as lonely motherfuckers who, in some way or another, had loved and lost. they haven't even gotten to the oh-shit moment in the slowburn yet but i'm lookin forward to it yakuza sukuna — THE PAIN. THE SUFFERING. AUHHHGHGGGG HOL YOU'RE FUCKING KILLING MEEEE. these two are mirrors in the worst possible way. they've got their throats stuck under their boss' boot heels; they've been disfigured, they've had their siblings used as leverage, they've been made into muzzled dogs. despite hating each other at the start, they can't not recognize that, and it's led to this fierce protectiveness that isssss whoops evolving into feelings. i'm sure nothing will go wrong

@eraserisms' shota — AHHHHHHH god okay most of this ship has been pure plotting vibes and responses to memes, but i truly cannot wait to get into writing more of them because they own my heart and soul. i think they know each other to the marrow in a way that's not super common for seph, and the gentleness and caution with which they're starting to explore revisiting their care for each other is heartbreaking in the best way

What is the realm of the elderlings series and should I read it?

Hi!! Omg what a question, new mutual. My gut instinct is to answer yes, yes absolutely, bc I love ROTE and I’m always willing to recommend it! However—it can also be kind of intimidating to get into, so here’s some more info to help u make a decision:

‘Realm of the Elderlings’ is the collective name for five different epic fantasy book series (all set in the titular realm) by Robin Hobb:

The Farseer Trilogy

The Liveship Traders Trilogy

The Tawny Man Trilogy

The Rain Wilds Chronicles (quartet)

The Fitz and the Fool Trilogy

There is some debate over the best reading order: Technically, according to most people, each series can stand on its own and be read individually. BUT the first, third, and fifth series focus on the same protagonist throughout different eras of his life. The second and fourth series are a duo. Essentially, only a few characters cross over into all five series, but 1, 3, and 5 focus on the same characters, and 2 and 4 focus on a lot of the same characters, if that makes sense.

Personally, I have been making my way through these in publication/chronological order (I’m on Rain Wilds rn), and that has worked really well for me. I love the main characters of series 1, 3, and 5, and getting to revisit them throughout their lives really makes them feel like real, growing people. I love the style of series 2 and 4, which are a lot more expansive and focus on ensembles of characters, and reading them feels satisfying, like watching a giant puzzle be put together as every plot piece clicks into place.

Some people skip around, reading series 1, 3, and 5 first and then going back to 2 and 4; some people don’t ever read 2 or 4; some people don’t ever read 1, 3, or 5; some people just read one series, feel satisfied, and never pick up another ROTE book again. All of these are totally fair! But I will recommend that The Farseer Trilogy is the logical place to start.

So here’s an actual description: Farseer, beginning with Assassin’s Apprentice, follows the life of FitzChivalry Farseer, the bastard son of the nation’s favorite prince. Upon learning of Fitz’s existence, his father abdicates from the line of succession, which leads to rising political tensions as Fitz’s two uncles now have to jockey for the throne. Meanwhile, Fitz is taken in by his father’s family but never formally recognized as royal, instead being trained to use his skills (and the magic he inherited) to serve the kingdom as an assassin and spy.

Here’s a less formal description: FitzChivalry Farseer is the dumbest boy alive and I love him so much. He’s a dog guy. He’s an unreliable narrator. His best friend is a genderfluid court jester with secrets, and their relationship will break your heart in the best way as it entangles both of them over the decades. There are dragons! There are wolves! There are scenes that will make you cry!! I get a lot out of these books, personally, as an asexual person; the importance of relationships outside of romantic/sexual contexts is shown. They deal a lot with family, and growing up, and the grief that comes as a side effect of living.

Plus, as a woman who has had to deal with a lot of bullshit fantasy misogyny in my reading, it was just refreshing to read such a sprawling, epic fantasy saga written by a woman. Hobb isn’t faultless; there are still some dated elements and tropes, but she tends to write her female characters with compassion and thoughtfulness, even when the narrative might be hard on them.

Ok. So. Hopefully that was helpful to you, and not just an overwhelming block of text and info! Even if you decide ROTE doesn’t sound like it’s for you or you try but can’t get into it, thanks for reaching out giving me the chance to spill my thoughts!! Finally,we met Daddy Ray!!didn't think it would happen!! Thinking he's gonna play a bigger part in the coming eps, esp with Sand..

Raymew getting together now right now is gonna destroy them both. Mew has not dealt with any of the baggage yet. And he has this idea of "no more mister nice guy/boring virgin" so feel like Ray's addiction is gonna play a bigger part in their "relationship" now.Mew is gonna wanna "let loose" and we see the police in the preview.

Ray is basking in the glory of "getting" Mew, he's obviously gonna celebrate with drinks and drugs.

A shame cos, him denying he's an alcoholic to Sand, i thought we'd finally see some discussion on his dependence and abuse, but NOPE, NOT TODAY, why can't I have nice things?

In the preview, we see him interrupting Sand's hookup AGAIN. Hope we get some conflict in the Sandray dynamic. I want some pushback from Sand.

I would listen to a audio drama about "your boy jonah" but also, tell me about your boy! Here is a free space to ramble. Please info-dump.

So, in case anyone is unfamiliar with the story of Jonah, it begins with Jonah minding his business and suddenly being called upon by God to go to Ninevah [the capital city of the Assyrian empire] to call them out for their sins. Instead, Jonah seals his place in my heart by running away from God.

I just find it so immediately endearing that his reaction to being given a divinely ordained job to do is to absolutely nope the fuck out and run for the hills. It's not just hilarious, but it also feels so honest? Like yeah sometimes we know rightly what we're supposed to do, either because of the leading of the spirit or because of our own morals, and sometimes it's fucking terrifying!!

So he runs away, he gets on a boat to sail off to Far Off Lands (poss. southern Turkey) and obviously... God knows. Because it's God. You can't just duck behind a tree and suddenly God forgets you're there lol And God is big mad and sends a storm that threatens to break the ship into matchsticks. The sailors are terrified - I imagine them as these hardened sea-faring men who are used to all sorts of things, and this storm is so fierce they're absolutely terrified.

And Jonah... is fast asleep. Conked the fuck out on one of the lower decks, like he isn't moments from being smithereened. Running away from God is a tiring business, I guess! Also, as a chronic procastinapper, I can't help feeling like he just felt like he had too much on his plate and decided napping is way less scary that That Whole Mess.

So the captain drags him up and demands that he pray to his god because clearly the gods of the sailors are not paying attention lol But they also want to know where the storm came from and why, so they draw lots to see who's to blame? And of course Jonah draws the short straw.

And then this bit I imagine Jonah being super sheepish about OK. Because in this era and place, it was quite normal to accept that other people's gods were real and powerful, but they just weren't your gods. But different gods have different areas of power, so the sailors ask Jonah who his god is. And very grudgingly, Jonah admits that ummm yeah ok so actually his god is... the one who created the sea and the land.

And I imagine there's this moment of absolute silence as these sailors take in the fact that this guy has pissed his god off and who's his god again? Oh yeah, only the one who MADE THE OCEAN which is currently trying to KILL THEM.

"So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea."

But Jonah doesn't drown! God sends a fish to swallow him up, and he sits in the fish for three days and prays while he's in there, because actually all things considered it was pretty neat of God to send a fish to swallow him instead of letting him drown and he's like "I think maybe I have got close enough to death and I would like to stop having an adventure now and go back to being all the way alive."

Which is very cool having his time in the fish being this sort of pseudo-death? Like he was getting a little taste of it. And he even talks about it as being in Sheol, and being out of sight of God and longing to be alive and back where God can see him.

So God tells the fish to vomit him up and tells Jonah again to go to Ninevah, which this time he does! It's a huge city, it takes three days to walk across it, but Jonah made a promise and he sticks to it. He walks and talks and the city repents and God relents from whatever punishment he was going to send.

Which, in a turn that never fails to touch my heart, makes Jonah... absolutely fucking livid. He is so mad about this decision. He's like, "I fucking knew it!! I knew you weren't going to smite these fuckers!" and God is like ??? excuuuuse me ???

And Jonah - I love him so much - he storms off, he stomps out of Ninevah and builds himself a little hu and he sits in his hut and he stares at the city, wishing hellfire and damnation on everyone in it, and sulking like nobody on earth. He is raging and I love it.

But it's the fucking Assyrian desert, it's hot as balls and even in his wee hut, Jonah's got the sun beating down on him. And God makes this plant grow next to him for shade, which Jonah is pretty pleased about - until the next morning, God sends a worm that attacks the plant and kills it. And also throws in some scorching winds and fiery sun for good measure.

And Jonah's lying there about to pass out and he's like, "I would literally rather be fucking dead" and then we get my favourite exchange in the whole Bible:

But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?”

“It is,” he said. “And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.”

I just love it!! He's having none of it! He is furious and he is feeling more righteous and miserable than any angsty teenager ever could and he's telling God straight out, "You have pissed me off like nobody has ever pissed anyone off before" and I love him so much!!

And God points out that he's that angry about the plant dying, which he didn't even grow or tend to, but somehow it's not fair for God to not be particularly keen on destroying an entire megatropolis full of people and animals who by the way God is responsible for and cares for? Double standards much? And the book ends! It's made its point and off it fucks.

Also there's a bit at the end there where it describes the thousands and thousands of people in Ninevah as "not knowing which is their left hand and which is their right" which I assume is a metaphor for not knowing right from wrong but which I also just love as such a read. Like, "Really? You expect me not to look after these people? Look at them. They're morons, Jonah. They're the kind of morons who would think, oh, I don't know, that they could hide from God in a boat."

I just love how angry Jonah is, and how afraid, and how human! And I love that he has this sassy back and forth with God and that he gets angry at God and argues and has to get put in a fish for a time out. It feels like such a close, bickering sort of relationship and I think the world would be a better place if more people felt like they could look God in the eye and say, "YES! I AM ANGRY!! I AM SO ANGRY I COULD DIE!!!"

I used to upload my work on YouTube until I lost my info for my account and have since made a new one where I may possibly post someday. - I love you all so much. I have been writing for almost seven years now (CRAZY HOW TIME GOES BY SO FAST!) and I have no intention of stopping or slowing down anytime soon. Thank you for loving & supporting my work. I started writing for Demi Lovato, convinced no one would ever read or like my work. It was only meant for my eyes only and to try something new.
