So about Time Travel Tobirama

He gets back in his childhood, the period when Kawarama was already dead, but Itama still alive, just cuz I like Itama alive and well, ok. (also i love the idea of Itama the weed shinobi by @oh-no-its-bird so)

And he starts to think and strategise smth like "Ok, I need to kill Black Zetsu, but idk where he is. But he should be around Uchihas, so I must come closer. But I cant just go there, we're not in peace, they'd kill me. And I don't exactly know when Black Zetsu is gonna try to manipulate Madara. So I also have to monitor Madara and make sure Izuna doesn't ever dies, to ensure that Madara won't lose his shit".

So, he's really logical and his conclusion was "So the easiest way to monitor the Uchiha clan is to marry an Uchiha." But he can't just marry a random Uchiha, it'd be shitty for politics he is the clan heir after Hashirama after all + it'd be nice way to strengthen peace via marriage. Plus he needs to keep close eye to Madara. So. Marrying Madara it is. Or Izuna. But first of all, Izuna is annoying and second he still needs very carefully look for potential signs of Black Zetsu corruption and it's better to do that when they're in close quarters. So the best case scenario is Madara's hand in marriage.

Killing Madara might be easier, but Hashirama would be sad. Plus I think the ppl who helped him to be sent in the past (coughnaruto who said that) told him smth about that Madara and Hashirama are Indra and Ashura reincarnations and be like "What if daddy Sage gets angry..."

So yeah no killing Madara. Even though he kinda wants to.

And to be clear, he had this plan in the few days he's back in his baby body. He's like 10-12 or whatever, when Hashi starts running to the river to meet Madara. Oh and Itama is safe and sound cuz Tobi said fuck Butsuma and went to safe his baby brother.

So one day Tobirama follows his brother to the river to actually meet Madara before his father decides to fuck everything.

So, Tobirama's the most fucked up honeypot mission officially begun. Tobirama is gonna be like "Ok i need to impress a 12 yo... But I cant just show him a cool jutsu, he might think about me as a rival or whatever... Kids like praise and cool things... Maybe I can tell him that he's cute and find him a cool stick? Should I ask Anija to make a cool stick?"

He meets Madara (without a stick, Hashirama might've suspect smth) and be like "Wow, Anija who would've known you've made such a cute friend" (Tobirama is hard cringing in his head, he's not the best in honeypot missions) and Madara, being about 12 year old, is standing there covered in mud, cuz Hashirama threw him into river or whatever + the little hc that he's kinda ugly when he's in his teens. Like Madara thinks of himself as strong and cool, but not particularly handsome with his wild hair and eye bags.

So Madara is smitten cuz wow pretty boy with red eyes said that He's cute!!!

Tobirama looks at Madara's dopey smile and thinks of the first phase as a success. Now Tobirama starts to spend some time with Hashirama and Madara to monitor their surroundings from their clans, while Itama distracts their father, and also try to win over Madara when he is still an impressionable kid. Plus he starts hinting that they may be Senju and Uchiha and that they should be prepared. But well they're kids who wants to escape all that war and just play with a peer so.

Long story short, Madara be like "So we're gonna make a village and then I'm gonna marry Tobirama!"

Tobi "fuck yes, a bit ahead of the schedule, but sounds good, i'm in"

Hashirama is outraged bc THATS HIS LIL BROTHER!!!

So Tobirama plays hard and makes Madara promise to marry him when they're old enough.

But then well, they're still found out and they still have a fallout cuz of their clans. But Tobirama made them promise to try hard for peace (and marriage), so now they just have to wait til Butsuma dies and Hashirama can become a clan head.

Tobirama tries not to be so efficient at killing Uchihas cuz he will be their family later so he tries to avoid it and just knock out or use some non lethal methods. Hashirama mostly fights Madara and it's almost sparrings at this point. Itama works on his weed empire and learns healing.

Well one day Butsuma dies and Hashirama and Tobirama bully their Elders and rush to try for peace. Tajima (who I think is still alive) is suspicious of all of it and stalls af.

So one day on the battlefield Tobirama says "So, marriage when? You promised asshole", making all the Uchiha and Senju stumble and "HUH?!"

So now many of the Senju and Uchiha now know that Uchiha clan heir apparently proposed to the Senju heir ??? Everyone is confused.

Madara, still crushing hard on Tobirama, catches this opportunity and bullies everyone to allow peace and let him marry Tobirama. Uchiha allow it only cuz everyone knows how crazy Uchihas about loved ones and Madara is the strongest one. They kinda afraid that if they won't allow it, he'd go crazy (he would).

So Madara gets his trophy wife Tobirama, Tobirama gets his safari zone with Uchihas in their natural habitat.

Tobirama is a surprisingly good husband to Madara, cuz with all that Zetsu thing, he's attentive as hell. "Something bothering you, dear husband? Do tell me everything."

At first they think he'd learn things and will tell that all back to Senju, but Tobirama tries to assure them "I don't really care about details. Tell me about how it makes you feel." (he looks for the signs of Zetsu corruption)

So basically Tobirama marries Madara to become his therapist. Madara is very much in love and constantly brags how much his spouse loves him and that he always listens his worries.

Izuna is mad as fuck about all of it btw. He thinks that Tobirama has ulterior motives and hides something. (He's right. ) But Tobirama dutifully plays his part as an attentive spouse and makes plans for bettering Uchiha clan just so that the village won't suffer. He'd probably would prescribe them regular therapy for everyone who awoken Sharingan.

i've had to hear a huge amount about sinevra [a hot ship name if ever there was one] over the past year or so because @whinlatter is a paid-up believer in its viability. and i must say...

i'm convinced.

the first thing to get out of the way is that ginny's clearly got a wee crush on dear ol' padfoot. she spends several of the scenes which take place in the summer of order of the phoenix trying her best to get his attention - albeit in a way which prompts visceral flashbacks to being fifteen - by showering his bff [crookshanks] with affection and doing all she can to seem cool and fun.

but when this initial mortification is out of the way, there are hints of a broader platonic compatibility [at least from ginny's perspective, sirius is undoubtedly hard-pressed to remember her name during the canon timeline] that could very easily transition into something romantic if an author so desires - particularly in a scenario where they've both survived the war.

which we can see most clearly in the aftermath of arthur weasley being attacked by nagini:

"Your father knew what he was getting into, and he won't thank you for messing things up for the Order!" said Sirius angrily in his turn. "This is how it is - this is why you're not in the Order - you don't understand - there are things worth dying for!" "Easy for you to say, stuck here!" bellowed Fred. "I don't see you risking your neck!" The little colour remaining in Sirius's face drained from it. He looked for a moment as though he would quite like to hit Fred, but when he spoke, it was in a voice of determined calm. "I know it's hard, but we've all got to act as though we don't know anything yet. We've got to stay put, at least until we hear from your mother, all right?" Fred and George still looked mutinous. Ginny, however, took a few steps over to the nearest chair and sank into it.

ginny's acquiescence to sirius' point-of-view - even though she begins the scene taking the same line as fred and george - is really quite striking.

because - of course - it's due to her respecting his authority [noteworthy enough, since sirius' obvious depression during his confinement in grimmauld place reduces his authority status in harry and hermione's eyes].

but it's also due to the fact that she's one of the few child characters who ever really seems to get this idea of there being things worth - collectively - dying for.

harry - however terrified he is of voldemort and however dangerous he considers his mission against him to be - still fundamentally sees defeating the dark lord as something which is his responsibility and his responsibility alone. while he's upset to be excluded from the order in order of the phoenix, he stops caring about its work the moment he knows about the prophecy. he's shocked to learn that he must die in deathly hallows not just because this is shocking full-stop, but because he's never envisioned a scenario where he isn't the person delivering voldemort's death blow.

the divide between harry [and ron and hermione, to some extent] and the rest of the order when it comes to what the war is and what it means is a really interesting thread to unravel in all sorts of pairings [romantic or not]. and it's particularly interesting when thinking about his relationship - again, romantic or not - with both sirius and ginny.

it's striking in canon that the order never really seem to understand voldemort as anything other than a terrorist - which is to say, they never understand the more mystical aspects to the war and, especially, to his obsession with harry.

[many of the death eaters seem to be the same.]

this is the case for sirius. it always stands out to me how his only response to harry telling him about the vision he had of nagini attacking arthur is to ask whether he's told dumbledore - which directly contributes to harry's unwillingness to keep him informed about his occlumency lessons. he is similarly disinclined to tell harry anything about the prophecy - he may want harry to be told more about the order's operations than molly does, but harry doesn't learn anything which actually ends up being useful to his own battle against voldemort from him.

ginny, in contrast, is someone harry deliberately keeps at arm's length from the mystical aspects of his mission [even though, based on what she says to him at dumbledore's funeral, she's grasped these a lot quicker than sirius].

she is reduced to trying to do what the order does - running the hogwarts outpost of a conventional resistance movement while harry goes on his horcrux hunt [something harry never seriously considers to be worthwhile; he treats the story of her attempting to steal the sword of gryffindor as though it was all a laugh], while undoubtedly knowing that her contribution to the cause is minimal.

there are a lot of parallels there with sirius' experience in order of the phoenix. his depression is exacerbated by a feeling of uselessness - the only contribution to the order's work which he understands as worthwhile is an active one; he doesn't see the domestic aspects of the order's mission as valuable and he doesn't realise that harry needs his emotional support in grappling with the mystical side of his connection to voldemort.

i am really compelled by the idea of sirius and ginny bonding over this experience of being peripheral to what the war actually ended up being about, especially because each of them could offer the other the recognition that they did the best they could with the information they had [an act of forgiveness i think they'd be unable to offer themselves]. and i am compelled by the idea of this turning into something more.

i also think ginny would love a motorcycle.

To everyone else, Neteyam was nothing but a smart boy, always quick upon his feet. Ready for anything.

But nothing could prepare him for this as the words slip past your mouth.

He was dumbfounded. His brain froze as he stared at you.

While you felt immediate regret at what you said, hands stretching and gesturing all over as if it would reverse everything that led up to this conversation.

“No- I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to- I-“ You stumble upon your words, face growing hotter by the minute.

“What was it again?” Neteyam asked. You shake your head, not wanting to repeat it anymore.

Neteyam takes both your wrists and holds them down, staring at you. “Tell me.”

“My Eywa- Teyam you know I trust you the most and I don’t want to repeat myself- all I just said was I want to experience being kissed and I just thought it would be a great idea to ask you for it but- forget it!”

Oh no- no he would not forget. In fact, he was sure his heart was doing a thousand flips right about now. He keeps his cool even though he feels like he’s about to burst at any second now.

Who wouldn’t when your childhood best friend, or in Neteyam’s case, childhood best friend-turned crush-for-almost-a-decade had asked you if you’d like to be their first kiss? Even if it was simply just to try it out?

Neteyam smirks, tilting his head at you.

“Maybe you just want to kiss me, is that it (Y/N)?” He notes the way your cheeks darkened shaking your head as you fought against your feelings.

“NO!” You lie.

He rolls his eyes but laughs. “Calm down, (n/n)- I’ll do it.”

Your head lifts up in surprise. “What?”

“I’ll do it, c’mon.” Neteyam said.

“Here? Right now-“

Neteyam shakes his head, holding one of your wrists as he carefully pulls you up to stand. He wasn’t stupid, he doesn’t want to make your first kiss something you’d just brush over, no.

He’d take this opportunity to take you somewhere special- at least... A romantic scenario? Yeah, that was probably it.

Neteyam was dragging you up at Home Tree, until you had finally reached the top.

Your eyes take in the view of the sun starting to set. You hadn’t realize your hand was still holding Neteyam’s until he was tugging on your arm again, making you blush.

Having your first kiss isn’t exactly a priority anyways, but with all of your friends gushing on about theirs made you realize you were practically missing out on all the fun things adults do.

That’s why you went to ask your childhood friend Neteyam. You barely had any experience with boys around your age, even if they did hint their feelings, you’d turn them down anyway.

It was all because of him. Neteyam.

Now asking him for this was a big deal and you even started to hate it, yeah, he kisses you, and then what? Are you just supposed to brush it over? Would this affect your friendship? Or are you just thinking way ahead of things and its possible he might not even feel the same as you do?

“Sit.” His voice pulls you back, looking at him. You sit down across him.

Neteyam in front of you, can’t seem to stop the edge of his lip curling up. Great, he’s trying not to make fun of you.

But it was the complete opposite for him.

Neteyam, however, had his fair share of kisses back then so he can safely do what’s right and not. He wants to make it comfortable for you.

“Tell me if you want me to stop.” He said, turning serious. You sigh out in nervousness before nodding.

“Just move with me, okay? I got you.” He smiles, scooting closer. Your faces were inches apart as you stared into his eyes. Your heart was pounding and you felt like he could definitely hear it.

You shiver as Neteyam’s hand placed itself on your cheek before you find yourself leaning towards him.

Closing your eyes and bracing yourself for impact, a soft one at that.

His lips. You did not expect them to be this soft...

Neteyam’s insides crackled like fireworks being sent off as your lips met his. You stayed like that for a few seconds before Neteyam started to move at a better angle.

You were lost but you let him move you, with both his hands on your cheek now as your hands placed themselves on his arms.

The kiss felt heavenly, he felt heavenly that you cursed whoever else’s lips were to end up on his.

Then it started to become more deep, passionate, as if Neteyam was pouring all of his skill into making your first kiss a perfect one.

But just having him as your first kiss was more than perfect.

Your heart pounded still in your chest as you grip on his arms.

And it had to end sooner or later much go Neteyam’s dismay.

Pulling away, you both slowly opened your eyes to see one another. Neteyam’s eyes stared into yours with pupils dilated. You were absentmindedly staring at him the same way.

“That was amazing Neteyam.” You smile and Neteyam wanted nothing more but to kiss you again, already missing the feeling as if he didn’t pour his heart and soul into it.

He was about to utter the three words then and there but his brother just had to be there.

“Hey! Thought I’d find you guys here, oh (Y/N) that reminds me...”

Neteyam watched with a frown as you got up to talk to Lo’ak. The memory of your lips, however, made his cheeks warm, tail swishing behind him in happiness.

Lo’ak, as he was talking to you, could notice his brother’s mood behind you but you didn’t have a clue. He chuckles at his older brother’s glare at him.

After Lo’ak had gone, you shyly return to Neteyam, who smiled widely at you.

You pursed your lips, smiling back at him. That was it, you were done for.

“Aren’t you a little too happy? I think you’re the one that wanted to kiss me.” You teased him to lighten the mood, hoping you juust didn’t wreck your friendship.

It was an odd new trend in Firgrat, this trick or treating thing.

Havard had made a whole thing about the kids dressing up, and going around asking the Protectors and Custodians "trick or treat".

Then it had been decided that the Orpahange would go out into the city to expand the game...

So you were currently dressed in luxurious black robes, and had snow white hair, and a beard. A real, magically grown, beard. You had also gotten a potion that made your eyes glow. You were dressed as something, the Ancient grandpa that had saved you. This was apparently how he dressed most of the time. The best part? You wore your cloak, and it was perfectly aligned with your costume. It had been grandpa's cloak after all.

You didn't really understand the whole thing but Havard and Lexia had really liked the idea. Besides, all of the outfits had been provided by the Ancients at Havard's request. Everyone had wanted to dress up as the Ancients, who had delivered hundreds of authentic costumes of each of them with the necessary enchanted items and potions to really match their look. You don't think something was a very popular choice though...

Though Havard had confiscated some of the delivered stuff. One of your fellow orphans had wanted to be the Havoc Keeper. True to form, the enchanted amulet that would have helped to achieve the wanted effect had summoned and bound three dozen hell-hound puppies. Which were cute, but set stuff of fire far too much, and had left a huge mess. There had also been some talk about some of them possibly growing to the size of a small house... You had been too busy playing with said puppies to pay attention.

"Hey kid! Time to get some more treats! We are approaching some willing victims, right there in that in. Time to look cute." Lexia whispered to your ear from behind.

"Lexia... could you not call them victims." Havard whispered. "We are not cheating people. This is more a game for the children."

"Sure, sure. But the goal is treats." Lexia whispered back. "So kid, you need to do your best. I have a bet with Sandor we can get more stuff than their group."

Havard sighed. "Of course, you have." He muttered. "Teaching MC how to gamble is not...."

"It's a useful life skill!" Lexia protested, loudly enough for people to look over.

Havard sighed. "Just try to have fun MC. Do not worry about anything else." He whispered to you.

You nodded. You already had a bunch of treats but that was from inside the orphanage, but that was easy. This was the city! A true test of your snack gathering prowess!

So you did your best to try and remember what something had acted like, and straightened your back. You marched to the door of the inn, and then inside, head held high.

Lexia and Havard followed you in, as a roomful of patrons turned to look at you.

You did not focus on that fact. Instead you marched to the innkeeper.

"Trick or treat?" You asked as clearly as you could, staring up at the innkeeper.

"The eyes, Remember to do the eyes!" Lexia whispered loudly.

Right, the puppy dog eyes thing... You widened your eyes as much as possible, and stared at the innkeeper... who was already putting together a snack pack. Maybe it was the glowing eyes... you had seen those. You looked cool!

The Ancients had provided each costume with a way to deliver on a "trick" if a treat was not given. In your case, the outfit had come with an enchantment to make the treats float to you no matter what the person said... so you got treats in any case! That worked for you. You sort of wanted to see it in use. You wondered what would happen if you just used it in the middle of a street....

But the innkeeper smiled and handed you a pack of treats.

You took the package and tried to keep your cool... You thought something would have been cool and dignified. So you wanted until you turned your back to sniff the pack and lick your lips. You vaguelly heard Havard thank the innkeeper behind you as you opened the pack and grabbed some kind of a baked pastry... A honey cake? You think it was a honey cake.

Life was so odd sometimes. You did not understand why Havard smiled so softly as he observed you. Nor why Lexia beamed at you. But you had a mouthful of honey cake and a lot more places to visit.

You even got to use your "trick", and somehow managed to call an entire bakery's worth of treats to you when a person told you to run off. Much to Havard's horror and Lexia's delight.

It was a good day. Even if Havard muttered something about "Irresponsible" and "Completely detached from reality."

Lexia just laughed. You were pretty sure, she would win whatever bet she had going.

So, I just had a crazy thought. The upcoming Ordertune is promised to come with a bonus track, the one depicted in the image above.

My initial thought was that it would probably be the original version of Hide and Sleek, as that's a song that Deep Cut wrote in high school, which would tie back nicely with Splatune 3, which established this info to begin with.

However, I just came to the idea that this bonus track could instead be an original version of Deep Cut's Tricolor Shout from Rainbow Color Inkantation, which would be really cool! I mean, come on, it makes so much sense for team Future's shout to be a song we are yet to hear, and this would be a great way to pay that off!

Though the more I look at the name of this track, the more I feel like that's probably not going to happen. Hell, the fact that the word anthem is in the name makes me think that it might reference Daybreaker Anthem instead, which would still be nice, but not as cool. Worst case scenario, there might not be any references to existing Deep Cut songs in there at all. I hope that's not going to be the case, and I feel like it won't be the case. They have to make the bonus track worthwhile, and filling it with a little fan service is definitely one of the best ways to do it in this case.

But, yeah, I just hope that this bonus track in the second and final soundtrack of Splatoon 3 is going to be great and fun. If my idea comes true, then it would totally be at least a good track in my mind.

Not a request, just some random thoughts I’d share because I thought you’d find them interesting~

So I couldn’t decide between Mihyo, Sahyo, or Mohyo as the mood today, so i came up with the ultimate ship, Misamohyo, or as I call it, the “harem anime” ship because Jihyo is at the center of the relationship.

Jihyo and Momo being their futch/tomboy selves with their femmes Sana and Mina, Misamo being best friends turned lovers who invite Jihyo into their polycule and treat her like a goddess because they’re all unfathomably attracted to her; her face, her body, her really nice… heart (one of them is a boob girl so she LOVES this part, can’t decide which) her even-keeled and responsible yet still fun personality…

and a really, *really* nice cock if she’s G!P in this scenario (I’d like to think both she and Momo are)

Of course with three contrasting personalities Jihyo is NEVER bored, and even though they can be a LOT sometimes in different ways she loves them all the same and wouldn’t have it any other way 🤭

Love this idea. I imagine misamo are very comfortable in their relationship (not like it’s boring or anything) and Jihyo just kind of draws their attention. Some thoughts i’ll add on:

Sana:

* Definitely dragging Jihyo on the most dates

* Also loves spoiling her the most

* Takes her out shopping to try on a bunch of clothes and ends up buying a few outfits for both of them (because maybe Jihyo just looks way too good in that button down. and those joggers. and that sweater. and that sports bra. and that polo-)

* Jihyo ends up carrying all the bags after tho lol

* Also makes sure Sana doesn’t spend too much. Even if she thinks Jihyo looks hot in something, being fiscally responsible is key

* But going out to eat on these trips is a must for Sana, so Jihyo caves with the money a bit

* Very big on skinship. Sana loves laying all over Jihyo whenever she can

* That sort of carries over into the bedroom too. She loves to be on top/having Jihyo under her

* Really big into body worship, though she’s never put a name to it

* Will always tell Jihyo how much she loves the tone of her muscles. Rubs over them, kisses them, compliments them, the whole works.

* Does it to her dick too (because of course she does)

* But overall it makes Jihyo a flustered mess and Sana loves making her melt like that

Mina:

* The one who Jihyo spends the most time with at home

* Had Jihyo thinking she wasnt interested at first. Just that she was dating MiSana and was cool with her gfs dating her too (obviously not the case)

* Really it was just that Momo thought she was so gorgeous, she found it hard to look at and speak to her

* Thinking of something like the mohyo TwiceDate where they start getting closer and just go out for drives. No destination in mind, just a way to spend time together

* On one of their outings Jihyo drives them to a nice grassy area and they just sit and talk. Maybe bring some snacks. And it’s there Momo confesses about being into Jihyo too

* Well, more like: “I’m sorry it took us this long to go on a proper date. Even if I can’t drive we could’ve taken the train somewhere nice. I understand if you don’t feel the same way about me as Mina and Sana.” “…Huh? Date?”

* Also ended up being the first one to tell Jihyo she loves her somehow. Even with the late start

* They start going on gym dates, bar dates and golfing dates

* Momo isn’t big on golfing but is more down to try than Mina or Sana soooo

When they’re all together it’s a great time. Both sexually and not. Can also imagine that, when things first started out, Mina and Sana would tease Momo whenever she and Jihyo got paired off. Cue them pointing and giggling and Jihyo’s just like ??? while Momo doesn’t even realize she’s being teased until later LOL

anyway lets do it. orv epilogue spoilers ahead

okay first of all. canonically as kids we have: suicidal, possessed by an alternate future version of herself, and literally does not exist. so im gonna come right out the gate and say a mario and luigi-style time travel scenario is off the table just. logistically. and also thematically. you understand.

but luckily the scenario mechanic makes it pretty easy to do whatever you want, so we still have options. are the kids personalities extrapolated from who the characters are now, just younger? or are they based on what they were like at that age? (or what they thought they were like at that age?) do they have the memories of the original? all of them, or just up to that age? if not, would that affect their personality? are they based on/created from childhood memories, almost like an avatar? is it some kind of creature that transforms into a younger version of you? to what end? or is it a robot or doll created specifically for this scenario? and most importantly - how old are the kids?

so heres a potential situation - they randomly encounter a hidden scenario thats meant to test you in some way? i guess i dont really have an idea for a plot or arc yet so i have no idea what the clear condition would be but. hypothetical scenario that creates a younger version of you and forces you to interact with them until you achieve some personal growth. if you wanna get angsty with it, the best way would probably be something like, the kids have all your memories up to that age and you have to help them overcome their trauma (and therefore your own). so in this case the kids would probably be a bit older, like 10-12? i dont remember the exact timeline on the kdj stuff but im pretty sure that would be after his mothers book came out but before he started reading wos. its a liiiiittle older than i was thinking but i think its the perfect age for maximum emotional turmoil 👍

this scenario would obviously be hell for kim dokja specifically, but i think it also has interesting implications for yoo "literally didnt exist as a child" joonghyuk. yes kim dokja has to face a version of himself potentially dealing with the very fresh aftermath of the situation with his mother, but yoo joonghyuk has to face his own lack of identity pre scenarios. probably the more realistic scenario here is that he just doesnt get a kid version of him because he has no memories to base it off of, but what if he does anyway? a quiet, closed off kid with no memories or family to speak of. its just so sad....... admittedly i dont have a whole lot of ideas for han sooyoung here though. well. actually. quick han sooyoung tangent

now. at risk of sounding like i have no reading comprehension. i have to admit that i was never really clear on exactly what memories han sooyoung gave up to create 1863!hsy. because okay. han sooyoung regains her memories when an avatar disappears. and when 1863 disappears is when han sooyoung gains the memories of everything that happened pre scenarios, right? [its actually not at the same time in the slightest but im not here to complain about time travel in fiction or we'll be here all day. theyre presented at the same time so i think its fair to say theyre connected]

so to me that implies that han sooyoung previously had those memories and made 1863 out of them? but why would she do that??? shes pretty careless with her memories but i dont think shes THAT careless. plus she mentions fairly early on that sssss infinite regressor (or whatever its called - her "plagiarized" novel) was based on her dreams - which wouldnt really make sense for her to reference if she previously had memories of 1863 and then forgot them. and that would also create a weird loop where 1863 has memories of herself writing wos, which i dont think tracks because she herself was confused that someone else wasnt writing wos...... and we also know that if han sooyoungs avatars train then she gains the skills from it, so perhaps this is an extension of that? and she gains all of 1863s memories independently from whatever memory hsy gave her originally

once again obligatory "i havent read the back half of the novel in quite a while so i dont remember very clearly" - i could be way off base here because my first read through of anything is usually not very reliable. but the interpretation that makes the most sense to me is that we just dont know what memories she gave up. but it seems odd to me? to specifically mention that she gave up a lot of her memory and thats why 1863 went rogue? not to mention the ways 1863 is so different from hsy.......

ANYWAY the point of this whole tangent is that if the children are based on the memories they had at that age then child!han sooyoung would potentially have an important memory that ours is missing (because she gave it to 1863!hsy). BUT if theyre based on their existing childhood memories, then naturally she wouldnt. in fact, id wager that over the course of the novel han sooyoung has probably lost a lot of childhood memories - that could definitely be a source of angst. its different from yjh who had no say in his circumstances - hsy intentionally threw away important aspects of her childhood in order to survive the present. and these are the consequences - a child who is missing a lot of formative experiences and noteworthy memories. imagine coming face to face with a version of yourself completely distinct from the kid you know you used to be, even if you cant quite remember clearly anymore, and knowing that you have no one to blame but yourself...... ohhhhh i really like that.

lol apparently i had the least to say about kim dokja facing his past self head on - i guess he does do that several times in orv huh. (wait. oh my god. i didnt even think about the oldest dream...... ohhhh my god kim dokja....... like, okay, assuming this happens sometime in the middle of the novel he wouldnt know about the oldest dream but. i guess i failed to consider all the things about his past he might not want to address...... but if this kid hasnt started wos yet then the reader specific guilt would likely be less prevalent. but something to think about......) and in pursuit of a different angle on that struggle i stumbled into yoohans raging identity issues. incredible

omg do the kids have skills?????? well kim dokja has to have the fourth wall no matter what. and probably also orv, but at a lower level - i guess it depends on if he has memories of wos too...... wait holy shit. little kim dokja who has started reading wos....... meeting yjh in real life....... im gonna cry 😭😭 i guess idk how old kdj was when he started reading it - wasnt he in middle school? thats probably older than i wanna go. can you tell i wrote this out of order? anyway. young yjh would have whatever skills yjh started with in the 0th turn (so, not many), but he probably has high starting stats (its only natural). im sure han sooyoung has been writing since she was a kid so she would still have avatar (again at a lower level).

to take it in a different direction though, we could do more of like. a mini clone situation? similar setup but maybe instead of a personal growth scenario its like, take care of your younger self and make sure no harm comes to them for one week. something like that. but instead of who they were as kids its like if you hit each of them as they are right now with an age regression beam. definitely go younger with this one - maybe 7-8? admittedly i have very little concept of the developmental stages of kids. i dont want them to be too young though - they should have some independence but still be way too young for all the fighting. and if sys and lgy are like 10 then a couple years younger than that seems about right? omg i was just checking the wiki for character ages - i didnt realize hsy was 2 years younger than the other two...... she'll be so little....... well i could always make them all the same age but wheres the fun in that

so anyway, in this case they keep all their memories and maybe their skills? maybe only some of them, and scaled down of course. but theyre more emotional and less skilled. vulnerable. child!kdj definitely admires adult yjh more openly, child!hsy is a biter, child!yjh is. strikingly similar but a little more readable. this also has really fun potential if the group gets split up and the kids are paired off with a different adult...... and since the kids are accurate to who the adults are but with less emotional regulation and impulse control, there could be some really fun moments of. your true feelings get revealed without your consent...... ohhhh yeah. its all coming together

Anyone with eyes can see that there's something sketchy about Jamil, so I can imagine that Ruggie would be at least a little wary of him. On his part, Jamil would probably tell himself that there's nothing to be gained by associating himself with what seems to be little more than a petty rogue with sticky fingers. But once they make the jump from "This guy is shady" to "Wait, this guy is my kind of shady" it's all downhill from there.

Well, them marrying for the business reasons was kind of the whole idea behind the AU. Even if they had feelings for each other, even if the whole thing is just one big cope, both of them are too uncomfortable with the idea of genuine feelings to be open about it from the get-go, I think.

Overtime, they could gradually begin to resemble a legitimate couple, and if they were to actually open up to each other (well, it’s Azul who needs to open up for the most part), they might get very close. They already are in a weird way.

They do use the “well I’m your husband” card with each other sometimes, both jokingly and seriously. Azul cooks for both of them sometimes, and it’s hard to tell if he’s just enjoying the role of a married man or if he genuinely enjoys it. He also gets cuddly sometimes, and while Idia complains, it’s not like he’s super opposed to it. But still, there are too many obstacles preventing a “we’re just happily married” scenario, and honestly they kind of like it that way (for better or worse).

So I had a new idea for one of those too-ambitious-to-ever-actually-write fics.

I had the thought today that Simon is the only really good father figure in the entire series. Even Jake, who tries his best, kind of sucks at being a dad, and it's only because the pups are so self-sufficient that they all turn out okay. Likewise, the writing is, imo, too forgiving to Joshua for some of the tough love crap he pulled on Finn. Obviously he's nowhere near as bad a father as Martin or Hunson, but the bar is so low it's on the ground.

So it's a shame Simon, who obviously very much wants to be a dad, and who has proven to be pretty good at it even if he's made his own share of mistakes, only returns to sanity when Finn is practically an adult. They're good friends, but the window was basically already closed on him being any kind of significant parental influence in Finn's life.

Then I thought, wait. There's no rules in fanfic. I can imagine whatever what-if scenario I want!!!!!

AU where Simon is Finn's adopted dad:

In this AU, Simon is cured (or perhaps only partially cured?) not long before Finn arrives in Ooo. The HOW may or may not be relevant to the story, but he's back to himself or at least as sane as he was when he was traveling with little Marcy.

When Margaret and Joshua find baby Finn, they do a bit of investigating and find out that there's another human who lives nearby, and they go to confront him in case he was the one who abandoned the baby. Simon is of course stricken at the accusation, but the misunderstanding is cleared up and, of course, eventually it's decided that he'll take care of Finn. (I picture the dogs being reluctant to part with him at first, but then Simon overhears that they're demon hunters and is like OH ACTUALLY I'D BE GLAD TO TAKE HIM IN, IN FACT I INSIST! I HAVE A LOVELY--and safe!--HOME HAHA... MAYBE YOU AND THE TWINS CAN VISIT HIM SOMETIMES THOUGH. WON'T THAT BE NICE)

Anyway I don't know exactly where it'd go from there but there's so much you could do with this AU

Obviously Finn and Jake are still best friends even though they're not actual brothers, because they're, like, literally canonically soulmates. And being around the dog family would be more than enough for Finn to pick up his same old reckless adventurer tendencies as before, despite Simon's best efforts to keep him out of trouble. This would be one of the biggest sources of conflict between them.

Marceline would of course be Finn's cool older sister figure. Getting Simon back early would have some serious effects on Marcy's character development, though exactly how that would play out would probably depend on the circumstances of his cure (and also how involved Bonnie is in the whole situation).

(I have a scene in my head where a really young Finn asks Simon why Marcy calls him by name instead of "Dad", and Simon needs to take a Moment to process the ensuing emotions.)

Maybe the fic could explore right after Finn is adopted, when Simon and the dogs are still trying to figure out where he came from. (They all become friends in the process, which facilitates more playdates for their kids later on.) Considering Finn appeared to be abandoned, the dogs would be fairly happy to move on and let his presumably awful birth parents just get bent and rot. Simon, although surprised other humans still exist somewhere, can't deny he feels similarly. But, the bear hat sparks something in Simon's memory, and when he brings it up to Marceline she remembers the ship she'd saved all those years ago. They make the connection and realize humans must have settled somewhere across the sea. Depending on what kind of fic you want it to be, they may or may not act on this epiphany right away.

Even if they save the islands for later, I think Simon--an anthropologist at heart--would recognize the importance of keeping something as culturally important as Finn's hat, if only to remind him of his heritage later. But even if he stored it somewhere, little toddler Finn would repeatedly dig it out of the closet and insist on wearing it, until Simon acquiesced that it was just going to be Finn's thing. Like Hambo and a security blanket all wrapped in one. With another human around to model himself on, though, I think Finn would eventually stop wearing it as an actual hat all the time and instead maybe just drape it over his shoulders like a hood or capelet.

I imagine Simon would insist on some sort of homeschooling for Finn, at least part of the time, because I just can't picture Candy Kingdom schools being up to his standards, let alone anywhere else in Ooo, lmao. Plus this way he'd be able to teach Finn about human history and culture without worrying about the truth getting mixed up or lost to time. For the most part, though, Finn would haaaaate formal education, which Simon would find baffling, as a lifelong nerd academic who surrounded himself with fellow nerds academics.

So yeah, as Finn grows and it becomes clear he's not cut out for academia like his old man, Simon has to accept that the world they live in is not the same as the one he was raised in himself, and that it might actually be prudent for Finn to learn to use a sword, if only to protect himself. He reluctantly eases up on the curfews and restrictions and gradually allows Finn more freedom to go on adventures with Jake, though he's a nervous wreck every time.

(Maybe Finn convinces him to come along sometimes to prove that it's safe, and Simon actually develops some dungeoneering skills too, in this AU? 👀 As a bonus, we get more scenes like that "I was quite the outdoorsman in my day!" moment in F&C where Simon gets to show off that he WAS a little bit of an adventurer back before the War. Optionally add Marceline on these adventures, too!)

As for The Betty Situation, it could range from "she simply died a thousand years ago and Simon has no choice but to grieve and move on for his new family's sake" to "the way he's cured in this AU plays out similarly to the episode 'Betty' except something goes wrong and now she's on Mars/trapped in a time bubble/whatever and Simon has been lowkey desperately searching for her in all his spare time when not actively taking care of Finn."

I WISH I had the discipline to write this into a proper fic. I WISH I wasn't so chronically indecisive and that I could at least pick a direction for it to go in, lmAO. I couldn't stop thinking about it all day today, ugh, I had to at least toss it out into the ether and share the concept. I really like that he got adopted by a community willing to take care of him. I believe that people will always seek out community and I just adore this detail here. The fact that they find a starving child and take him in.

On another note, seeing a feral Dabi would be pretty hot, actually.

That other succubus obviously noticed how interested Shig is in Dabi and felt threatened because they have slept with him before (probably more than once?). Also, the fact that Shig is not at all interested in them while being very much interested in Dabi is amusing.

Shigaraki: "I am going to be professional about this and give Dabi some space so my presence won't make him uncomfortable." Dabi: "You want to fuck me so bad it makes you look stupid."

I wonder if Shig had the scent blockers installed before or after he met Dabi for the first time? Was it just a general idea to use scent blockers in his villain costume as to not get tracked down or did Giran tell him one of the people who want to get in contact is a Succubus and Shig tried to make sure Dabi won't be uncomfortable?

Last third of the fic and things are going downhill fast. I'm guessing Dabi only managed to last two months because he was eating so regularly before. Oh, I wonder if the fact that he can't get his fill from anyone else has to do woth the fact that he called Shigaraki his mate? Nah, couldn't be it. Haha, immediately got confirmation for that one.

Okay, but that venom-turned-to-gas attack is cool as fuck. Also, Compress immediately asking to turn taht into marbles just shows how the League is used to having Dabi around. Compress is practical when it comes to stuff like this, he won't judge Dabi when this can be used to give them an advantage (not that he would judge Dabi otherwise, either).

The fact that Dabi has managed to go hungry for this long without going feral really speaks for his self control. I don't remember if you ever answered this, but do demons typically have quirks in this universe? What is the PLFs stance on succubi?

Oh, oh poor Dabi. He was hungry for so long and he tried so hard and he held on for so long. It's no surprise he's slipping. Though taking a chunk out of an already injured Shigaraki does seem counterproductive. Also, that injury is going to be difficult to explain. Especially if there are succubi around, or people who know enough about succubi to know about them going feral.

The abandonment issues are hitting hard again, aren't they? And Shigaraki is such a simp. He had Dabi take a bite out of him and all he can focus on is that Dabi was hurting.

Well, that's a twist. Interesting though! Also, the fact that Shigaraki just immediately ignores everything else to make Dabi feel good. My guy, you are missing part of your shoulder.

Ah, that was a sweet ending. Well, as sweet as you can get with these two. I wonder how the rest of the League reacted? They definitely noticed that Dabi was oit of it for a long time. And I imagine they took the time to read up on succubi, at least on the basics. Did they know he was starving?

Also, an immortal Shigaraki is terrifying, actually. Once heroes find out how he did that, I'm pretty sure they will use the fact that he "owns" Dabi to turn the public even more against him.

Dabi's daddy issues really take a backseat in this one, but they are absolutely still here being a driving force behind his actions in a way I don't even think he's capable of recognizing.

I truly believe that Magne is the most normal member of the League. Oh, she has 47 attempted murders and a temper? Yeah? So what? I would too if i had to deal with transphobia that far into the future while an anthropomorphic washing machine got to run around being one of the top heroes!

Shigaraki has definitely slept with Reo at least twice, however, even if he hadn't slept with Dabi that night, he never would have taken them to bed again. He does not like that Reo tried to stake their claim over him when as far as he was concerned, anything that happened before was just a transaction.

The scent blockers were a part of his costume since his debut! When there are heroes like Hound Dog, it's important to keep things like that covered. But Shigaraki didn't know they were just as effective on demons which is why he said he would be reporting that back to the doctor.

READ HIM FOR FILTH! Look, Shigaraki is so blunt already that I just think if he ever cared enough about something other than his goals, be that another person or just sex flat out, he would be incredibly blunt, earnest, and cringe about pursuing that as well. He does not have a subtle bone in his body.

So in this universe, full-blooded demons do not have quirks, but they do have innate magics and abilities that can sometimes mimic what humans think of as quirks and that can help them stand toe-to-toe with humans even after their evolution. I never had a good chance to bring this up in the Incubus!Shigaraki story, but in the first installment Dabi mentions that he told the rest of the League Decay was a mutation of his ability to eat lifeforce, however Shigaraki was not aware at that time, that was a lie. In actuality, he was born human with demonic blood in his ancestry, and when Decay activated as a child, he was scooped up by AFO who then had Ujiko do a lot of medical experimentation on him until the demon genes activated. From there they waited for him to hit puberty, knowing his memories would be fucked up and gaslighting him the entire time to make sure he thought he was a born demon, to see what kind he would end up being. The fact he ended up being something as weak and low-born as an incubus is why AFO treated him so poorly and encouraged him to starve/feed only on nightmares, since he had already put so much effort into Shigaraki and didn't want to waste him. The fact that Dabi very openly and blatantly has a quirk signals to the world he was human first.

The PLF is a very large organization so it would range from "not racist at all" to "extremely racist" concerning Dabi's and (to a lesser degree) Toga's heritage. In general, given his position in the organization, Dabi would not have to deal with the particularly racist members-- except Geten who, after the incident in Deika, and with his own family's obsession with 'blood purity' would be thoroughly disgusted by Dabi. He would still ask to be put on a squad with the popsicle though, because Dabi is used to that kind of treatment and he wants to keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't' ever try to start something.

Shigaraki continues to be a simp, but the fact that he ignored the bite and just kept fucking Dabi is 100% down to the venom. He couldn't have stopped even if he wanted to at that point, and he was just glad that Dabi didn't tear out a vein or artery.

The rest of the League would know they're dating, and kind of had their big reaction to that before the group headed to Deika, but no one else would be able to tell that Shigaraki owns Dabi now unless they tell them, or until it becomes very obvious that Shigaraki is not aging anymore, which he might actually continue to do until he's around 25 or so if the bond determines that's when he would be at his most physically healthy. Overall, I think that they would be happy for them, but be very confused about how in the fuck that works, because the succubi-granted immortality is a very well-kept secret in demon circles to avoid succubi being enslaved again.

So on that same note, the heroes would have no way of knowing what was going on between the two of them for a very, very long time. Especially if Shigaraki does naturally unlock the regeneration quirk of All For One, which would make the longevity Dabi is giving him and his healing look like one and the same. They would also have a theoretical eternity to do what they need to, even if Dabi has already decided he's not going to kill himself to kill Endeavor anymore. Now he gets to take the time and plan for a new revenge. (I'm thinking fighting Shoto and forcing him to use his flames until he accidentally turns into a demon too and forcing Enji to see his perfect prodigy is now a demonic race the whole world looks down on)

After all his years in customer service, Sanji has had so much time to practice his poker face. He should be impeccable at hiding it when he notices someone he thinks is beautiful, and it takes him less than a second to notice you. Admittedly, he’s getting better at keeping his expressions in check. And despite it all, his big, fat mouth and its lack of filter still gives him away.

“What can I get for you, cutie?”

This can go one of two ways. You’ll either get raving mad and tell him off (which he’ll deserve—you’re just trying to order a coffee), or you’ll laugh and shrug it off politely. In the worst case scenario, you’ll find a drink to dump on him. It’s happened before, even with hot coffees and teas. In the best case, it’ll be a little highlight of your day, something you’ll tell your friends or coworkers about later—“the barista complimented me this morning!”—and for his sake and yours, he hopes it’s that option.

To his relief, you do giggle, but to his surprise, you also respond. “I bet you say that to all the girls.”

It’s lighthearted, teasing even. He might even mistake it for flirting, if he didn’t want to get his hopes up. Though his heart is fluttering, he tries so hard to keep his cool. “Yeah, I do. But for you, I really mean it.” He blows a breath out between his lips. “So what’ll it be?”

Smiling, genuinely smiling, you order an iced matcha latte, something that’s kind of a pain in the ass to make, but Sanji doesn’t even bat an eye—not when it’s for you, and you’re laughing at his little jokes as he rings up your order and asks you to meet him at the other end of the counter when the drink is ready.

While you settle on a barstool at the opposite end of the counter, Sanji reaches for a little bowl and a whisk to froth the matcha for your latte by hand. Secretly, he hopes you’re watching, hopes you’re impressed at how deftly he knows he can whip the powder into a syrup. He doesn’t even have to reach for a blender to get the clumps out. He adds the matcha, a dash of vanilla syrup, and the milk to a mason jar and gives it a good shake, a holdover from his college bartending days, then pours it over ice for you. He prays it was a good show.

“Thank you, sir.” He shivers a little at the epithet, your light tone betraying the fact that you have absolutely no idea what it does to him. He’ll have to slap himself or else dunk his head in the dishwater if he can’t cool off fast. He offers a tight smile and your straw in return, afraid if he opens his mouth again, he’ll say something even stupider than before.

His wits leave him when you bang the end of the straw against the counter, pushing the paper down until the other end of the plastic pokes out and you can grab it with your teeth. You pull the rest of the paper off and set it aside, holding the straw between your lips until you drop it into your drink, and though it’s such a simple, human act, it’s the cutest, sexiest thing Sanji has seen in a long time.

The words bubble up before Sanji can choke them back. “Could I get your phone number?”

He almost slaps his hand over his mouth, so embarrassed he knows his ears are turning red, but you just smile back, eyes glittering, delighted. You reach for a napkin from the dispenser nearby.

“Sure. Got a pen?”

RAD CLASSMATES WITH AN ALTERNATIVE MC

DEMYA

MC's quirky style would definitely attract Demya's attention and honestly would also satisfy some of her tastes, she would find it intriguing and adorable at the same time. The goth part of the style would remind her of her demon form or of the clothes she usually wore when she attended parties at The Fall, sometimes a bit provocative, while the pastel part would remind Demya a little of some of her clothes used for other types of occasions, such as for example when she wants to feel comfortable and cute at home (or when she wants to be domestic with her mate). Basically, Demya would approve of MC's style, so much so that sometimes she would even take their cue for how to dress, so that they could go around Devildom looking pretty with coordinated clothes, like true alternative fashion icons. Going out with matching outfits would make Demya feel closer to MC, not only that,but it would also be a lot of fun and it would be like having achieved couple goals,which would of course trigger jealousy in other demons such as the seven brothers (the only thing Demya would refuse to wear as accessories are collars and chokers, for obvious reasons)

DOMNRA (MOBIM)

Not gonna lie, Domnra would find the alternative style quite attractive and hot, he wouldn't even know exactly the reason, but he would find it appealing, perhaps due to the fact that he too looks a bit like an emo with his haircut , but in his case it is not a style matter, but a strategic way to hide his scar, not wanting to receive unwanted attention. In any case, the details he would particularly prefer on his partner are the goth ones such as studs or fishnet clothes, while Mobim would have a particular soft spot for pastel details, especially the fluffy ones, occasionally offering to model some accessories, thinking it would be nice if itself, MC and Domnra were to match and bond together as a happy little family, while maybe listening to some music together too, such as rock or metal, one of the shadow demon's favorite music genres (still, they wouldn't mind listening to what MC prefers. As long they're spending time together in a comfortable setting, whatever they do, both Domnra and Mobim in the end would be satisfied)

AZUL

Although his fashion style is quite different,especially colors wise, Azul loves everything that is considered eccentric or bizarre, so MC's style would suit him quite well and he would have no problem helping his lovely star choose what to wear for the day/night and how to style their hair, he would also accompany them shopping if his help was requested. Azul would also find it a cool idea to immortalize MC on canvas or take alternative fashion themed aesthetic photos, after all he is an artist and MC would be a great muse, provided they agree to model of course, because their consent is important (if it was for a surprise gift though, in that case the demon would do everything in secret, as best as he could at least, since he's an open book). Considering his not very edgy clothes, Azul would prefer the pastel aspect of the alternative style and sometimes he would accept MC's advice on some accessories to wear that could compliment his figure and colors without ruining his usual attire. Still, Azul is known for cosplaying with Levi sometimes when he's less busy, so if MC wanted him to dress up as an alternative character, he wouldn't miss out the opportunity to show off

ZURI

Being an expert in fashion, it is very likely that Zuri has come across the alternative style at least once in her long life and therefore would know more or less the basics of how to organize such a wardrobe, even though it is not a fashion style she's particoulary fond of. Zuri tends to dress in a very elegant and refined way, at best in a practical and simple way if required by the context, so it is unlikely that she will adopt something typical of her beloved's style, despite her ability to appreciate both goth and pastel details, however she would let MC dress as they pleased without any harsh judgment, as long as in more important situations (such as noble settings or parties at the Demon Lord's castle-) they respected the formal dress code and didn't show up in alternative clothes, because that would be inappropriate. Being also good at sewing, if MC wanted made-to-measure clothes or if Zuri wanted to give them a present, she would personally take care of designing, creating and packaging clothing for them, making it one of a kind, a special set just for them to wear

ODON

They wouldn't be an expert on the subject despite their vast knowledge and considering their comfortable and rather shabby and vintage way of dressing, Odon wouldn't seem to care much about something like fashion or physical appearance, for them the only thing that would count the most would be MC's happiness and if their dear friend is happy wearing clothes of a specific kind, then Odon would be content too. They wouldn't really have an opinion about alternative style or a preference on goth or pastel aspects to be honest, but they would be willing to try some alternative clothes with MC, as long as they are loose, soft and comfortable, a bit like their sweater and poncho, because they wouldn't feel very comfortable with tight, low-cut or too bare skin showing clothes, not for a matter of insecurity, but simply for personal tastes. Seeing MC so sure of how they want to show themselves to all realms without any kind of fear would make Odon proud, because seeing a human standing up to other creatures without being scared of openly expressing their ideas and likes would be quite rare, and Odon would be pleased to assist them, just wanting acceptance and reception for MC (moreover, Odon's unintentional dark cottagore-like style would probaly compliment MC's alternative figure well-)

How the Phantom Thieves Became the Bad Guys (OR: A long-ass essay that’s likely to irritate any P5 fans that bother to read it)

PREVIOUSLY: I came to the sad realization that “Joker” — a.k.a. the Persona 5 protagonist, a.k.a. Ren Amamiya — is canonically an asshole.

...so I suppose the logical extension of that is for Joker to become a villain. 

And as it turns out, thanks to the third semester of Persona 5 Royal, he can! They WANT you to. 

I guess you could say the warning signs were always there.

...of course, alternatively, he might not. Because thankfully, the freedom of player choice still gives you some ways out. But sadly, the “True” (i.e., canonical) ending of the game requires Joker to lead the Phantom Thieves into a very dark place indeed. 

Before I delve into why that’s the case, though, I have to give the devs at Atlus credit for creating an ethical scenario that really challenges the player and makes them think. But uh, if you want to feel okay about pursuing the “True Ending,” you definitely shouldn’t think too much. It’s best that you just take the words of the characters at face value and try not to apply real-world morality, okay? Because applying serious thought to the moral debate in the third semester swiftly makes the Phantom Thieves into bigger baddies than some of the palace rulers they’ve previously battled.

Enough of the buildup, however. Let’s back up and dig into the core issue I’m talking about: Takuto Maruki’s quest to make the world a better place. 

The Setup

Maruki is a psychological counselor and cognitive researcher as well as a Social Link/Confidant that’s unique to the “Royal” version of the game. He’s also the central figure behind the new storyline that takes place after the ending of the original Persona 5. Said storyline involves Maruki leveraging his work as a psychologist and his studies of the cognitive world + Yaldabaoth’s merging of Mementos with the real world to rewrite reality, creating a new world where people’s innermost wishes are made real. The result? People who lost loved ones in traumatic ways see them now returned to life. People who experienced horrific injuries have had them undone. Rape victims were never violated in the first place. People who lost their dream jobs are suddenly re-employed by them. And so on. This is Maruki’s way of helping people move past being haunted by their traumas and worst experiences; now they can simply never have had such experiences.

Maruki is a very kind-hearted soul from the moment we first meet him. There’s never any doubt that he’s simply trying to make the world a happier, kinder place. And when he first triggers the change into a new timeline, most of the Phantom Thieves are blissfully unaware that the world has been rewritten around them. No less than three of our teammates are reunited with parents who died recently or years ago, although from their perspective, it’s not a “reunion” — it’s just the way things have always been, because those people were never murdered in the first place. Our lead character, Joker, and his rival/ally/antagonist, Akechi, are initially the only ones who remember the old reality. But Joker is soon triggering the rise of conflicting memories within his allies that make them call their new existence into question, even if just slightly...

(It’s cool how well this all aligns with a major area of current psychiatric research. Medical researchers have been seeking a way to target and delete traumatic memories from PTSD sufferers for well over a decade now, moving ever-closer to success. Traumatic memories can be debilitating to a level that millions of sufferers never can recover from their worst experiences even after living many decades more, frequently driving people to suicide; what if you could stop having to relive them? Granted, this wouldn’t literally undo them as it does in Maruki’s solution, but I think the core concept is similar, and that’s pretty neat. Though I have no idea if it was all intended and the devs actually knew about this... )

Concerns?

When I first entered and swiftly understood Maruki’s “new reality” in the game, I immediately theorized TONS of ways in which this could be a very bad thing. And even as I went through the initial phases of his palace/laboratory and slowly learned more about the situation, I continued to come up with new possibilities for why this could be a problem for the world.

...so what’s amazing is how, though a combination of main story dialogue and optional side dialogue, the game successfully addresses EVERY possible problem and erases ANY doubt regarding Maruki’s solution. I assume they were going for a more nuanced moral debate, but in practice wound up in a situation where Maruki’s solution carries only the slightest ambiguity as to its righteousness.

So! Let’s go ahead and break down EVERY concern I had... and how the game either dismisses them or muddies them up quite a bit.

Concern #1: Maybe this reality is fake, and the resurrection people are just illusions/cognitive beings? ANSWER: No, this is not the case. During their first couple of discussions, when Akechi asserts that this reality is phony, Maruki assures him that it’s every bit as real as the one they remember. Moreover, Akechi himself confirms this in his next phone call with you; he investigates the possibility that Wakaba Isshki is either an illusion or cognitive existence, and he confirms that she is indeed the real Wakaba. In fact, his research confirms that she simply didn’t suffer the incident the vehicular accident that previously ended her life... and history was rewritten from there. Per his testimony, this isn’t a false reality at all — it’s an alternate universe or new timeline with its own distinct history. Think of it like we just jumped to a new “world line” in Steins;Gate or something. 

The dark side implication of this fact is that it means that if someone WERE to revert reality back to its previous state, that’d be effectively the same as killing them yourself. 

Concern #2: Does this mean that people will never undergo loss or pain of any kind? No, negative experiences definitely still exist. Note that Yoshizawa still has endured the loss of a close sister who was killed in a vehicular accident! And the Niijima family is still missing their deceased matriarch. Ann specifically mentions how she was “so sad” when Shiho transferred away to another school. In fact, even Shido is confirmed to still be under arrest for multiple confessed crimes (courtesy of the Phantom Thieves) in this reality! But that last one could be an example of how people who don’t accept this new reality can continue to be trapped in their old struggles. You can see that particular problem in the homeless man in the subway... and even more blatantly in Akechi. He’s very open about his hatred of this new reality and his opinion that he needs his miserable life experiences. He literally defines himself by his trauma, which is... uh, not a good argument. In fact, Akechi is so messed up (and historically has been such a hostile, malevolent force) that his hatred of the new reality feels more like a ringing endorsement than something we should agree with. HOWEVER... it’s worth noting that later on in the “true” story route, Maruki continuously refers to his reality as one where nobody has to suffer. So perhaps the lingering tragedies/problems I’ve mentioned are actually imperfections he intends to iron out? Or it’s possible he’s just simplifying the situation, boiling it down to the essence of his argument even if it’s not strictly the case. UNCLEAR.

Remember: If Akechi thinks something is foolish, it’s probably a very good idea. 

Concern #3: Is everyone just going to live incredibly easy lives, then? Everybody gets whatever they wish for now? First: That’s literally impossible. It is inevitable that people’s wishes will conflict with one another. Second: It’s pretty clear that goals/wishes which logically require effort to be actualized will STILL require that effort. Sae Niijima is still said to be working late nights in her job as the district prosecutor ever after the new reality emerges, and Ryuji is literally doing laps around the school EVERY DAY in order to stay in shape and keep his track skills strong. So NO, it’s not like everything just comes on a silver platter without even trying for it. Third: In all other situations beyond ONE thing on January 1st (the first day of this new reality), it seems like the new world isn’t going to just give out every desire you might think of. See, the narrative waters are muddied by the fact that Yoshizawa wishes to not encounter a crowd at the shrine on New Year’s Day... and then, shockingly, it’s mostly empty. But for the rest of the story, this trick is never again employed. In fact, there are situations in which people would OBVIOUSLY be thinking or desiring something other than what they have, but they still aren’t magically granted the perfect life. Just look back at Concern #2: Are you telling me that it never would’ve occurred to Yoshizawa to NOT have such a tragedy in her past? In fact, just rewind back to my second point under this very concern - are you going to tell me that Sae never once wanted to have a lighter workload? And why the helld did Shiho EVER transfer away from Shujin in this new reality, huh? So the most logical conclusions here are either that A) The new reality was still forming (this was its first day after all), finding its footing and still in flux, but immediate fulfillment of random frivolous wishes won’t apply after this point. OR! B) One-off wishes that are specifically spoken aloud might be granted, but otherwise the focus is on granting the SINGLE deepest wish of each person. 

Concern #4: Wait, what if some real assholes/terrible people make destructive wishes? In the real world, somebody casually thinks “ugh, I want to die” all over the world at every second, and a few people probably think “Jesus, just blow up the planet” every few minutes, but it’s not like we see random citizens keeling over or the world exploding under Takumi’s new reality. But this is a fictional world, so maybe those kind of thoughts/statements don’t exist there. In which case  the fact that Shido is currently still imprisoned for his crimes seems like evidence enough that destructive wishes being granted isn’t going to be a concern. Does anybody really believe that Takumi would hand someone like Kamoshida his greatest (...and probably dark and perverted) wishes? Nah. No fucking way.

Concern #5: If Kamoshida never was at Shujin and never abused/violated anyone, and Madarame was actually an honest and supportive “master” to his apprentice, and Okumura is a caring boss and devoted father... does that mean the Phantom Thieves never existed in this world? Does that erase the special bond our characters built? ANSWER: No, it doesn’t mean that. I already mentioned that Shido is behind bars in this reality just as he is in the preceding one, and this is (as ever) courtesy of the Phantom Thieves. The Phan-Site is still running and putting out polls, and they’re still viewed as heroes to the masses. The Thief squad still possesses the same special connection they always had. 

The Stickiest Wicket: Kasumi and/or Sumire

Ultimately, the BIGGEST concern for many people about Maruki’s actions is what’s happened to Yoshizawa. She no longer even knows her real name (Sumire) or who she was born as. She’s living her life entirely as a deceased person (her sister, Kasumi). She fully believes she is that person, and she acts and thinks and feels just like them.

A lot of people find this creepy or weird, but Maruki originally triggered this change without even knowing he was doing so. Furthermore, it happened because that’s what Sumire wished for. It’s her own desire! 

But once Maruki realized Maruki’s argument is based in the trauma that got her here. Because, you see... Sumire is responsible for her beloved sister’s untimely death. Not in a direct “I literally killed her” sense, but I mean... Sumire picked a fight with Kasumi in the streets and then ran away upset, Kasumi naturally/obviously pursued to try and calm her down, Kasumi screamed out to Sumire to not run into the street because vehicles were coming, Sumire ignored her and ran into the street, Kasumi catches up to Sumiere JUST enough to shove Sumire out of the way of an oncoming truck... and Kasumi pays for that with her life. 

We are made to live out this experience in first-person view, and it’s harrowing. Afterwards, Joker and Maruki make some effort to calm and/or comfort her. Maruki gives her the opportunity to live her true self from then on and help her move forward... or to revert back to  Understandably, Sumire can’t comprehend having to live with this deeply traumatic experience in her mind.

No shame.

I come at this storyline from an unusual perspective because a very similar story happened near where I live when I was growing up. The story of a man who accidentally wound up causing his wife’s death while they were on their honeymoon.. it absolutely shook me to my core when I was a young teen. I won’t get into the messy details because I’d prefer to not pass the horror of a real-life tragedy on to a bunch of people, but suffice it to say that it was absolutely, undeniably an accident. Even so, he was similarly wracked with guilt. The area community watched that man’s psychological state completely collapse. He never recovered, and it was hard to blame him for that.

I can’t imagine how I’d ever recover if I accidentally caused a loved one’s death, either. And hopefully, very few people will ever have to know such horror. If I knew someone in such a situation, of course I’d be there to support them while simultaneously encouraging them to get professional help they can lean on. I’d encourage anyone in such a situation to seek out help and try to support them, naturally. And Joker does do that! But holy shit, when we see flashbacks to the aftermath of the tragedy, Sumire is DEEPLY miserable. She can barely go through the motions If Sumire believes that she is Kasumi, it does more than just help heal her feelings of inferiority —  it also means that she endured a tragedy in which her little sister died because of said sister’s own actions As we’ve established - tragedy still exists. Either sister being gone is a tragedy. And Sumire who died - not because of Kasumi but because of her own fault? Its still tragic (once again, reminder: hardships and tragedy still occur here), but it’s not completely debilitating in the same way.

In light of what I saw happen so close to home, I don’t blame Yoshizawa for choosing this life at all. It’d be preferable to just have both sisters alive and together, but it does not appear that Maruki has control over what people wish for. If he did, then maybe he could restore her sister and help build up her confidence from there... that’d be greatly preferable. But if this is her biggest wish — to simply BE her sister and live life with Kasumi’s confidence — then I’m with MarukI: At least this lets her live her life happily and at peace. 

I get that it’s not the perfect solution. But I’ll take whatever option is available that prevents a situation like the doomed, self-destructive widower I mentioned three paragraphs earlier.

Maruki is Doing the Same Thing the Phantom Thieves Did... But Better

Based on the above, this seems pretty win-win for everyone (although Sumire is certainly a debatable case). Well... it’s a win-win for most everyone except Akechi; he interprets any change to the current timeline as a removal of his free will. (Which obviously isn’t completely true; we watch a whole load of characters making clear decisions and choices during this arc, even before they are ‘awakened’ from this reality and, if they accept Maruki’s reality? Even AFTER that, too. So Akechi is full of shit, ofc.) In fact, Akechi is so dead-set on following the path he already chose that he’s still grimly adamant about doing so after finding out that he’s dead in the original timeline. Akechi insists that only HE can choose what is the truth, which is very much aligned with how he used to frame people for crimes in order to get credit for their arrest :P .... AND also not at all far removed from Maruki’s stance. Except Akechi’s “truth” is self-destructive, and Maruki’s “truth” is a positive for goddamn everybody.

Explained another way: The Phantom Thieves as a whole are doing the same thing as Maruki, just on a smaller scale and without actually addressing the societal problems that create such unfairness. The Phantom Thieves have spent this entire game forcibly changing the hearts and cognition of criminals and awful people, but they’ve never bothered to examine the root of such problems. Maruki is simply taking a single swing at erasing systemic injustice and sudden-onset cruelty in the world. The Phantom Thieves are firefighters; Maruki is an architect. The Phantom Thieves are whacking down whatever moles may pop up, but Maruki? He’s dismantling the whole rigged-ass game.

And y’know, considering how much Joker and the Phantom Thieves talk about carving their own future and free will and stuff in the “True” ending.. they sure do strip a whole lot of people of THEIR free will during the game’s campaign, don’t they? 

But look, I’m sure they don’t care about that. Because somewhere along the line — and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where —the Phantom Thieves stopped caring about other people. As in: Anybody outside of their own group.

The Phantom Thieves’ Great Big Selfish Dick Move

In the “True” route, once the Phantom Thieves remember their past lives, they struggle for a bit with the idea of whether they’re doing the right thing by opposing Dr. Maruki and the new timeline. He’s only trying to help people, after all. Including all of them.

But Ryuji gives a little speech that gets everybody on-board with changing Maruki’s heart and returning to the former reality.

WOO! FUCK everybody else who is living their lives happily! FUCK all the people who are now LITERALLY ALIVE in the new timeline! And we remember the old, shittier one right now, so let’s .... default to that one I guess! Despite the fact that this is one is already established to be EQUALLY FUCKING REAL.

Shockingly, the rest of the team chooses THIS is the time to finally fucking respect Ryuji. (NOTE: The time to respect Ryuji was, in truth, every single damn day BEFORE this one. He’s an excellent human being. Or... he was. Before this moment.)

BUT NOT EVERYBODY BELIEVES IN IT, YUSUKE! What about all those people who are happy here? And what about the fact that this reality isn’t any less real than your original one? Remember: This is LITERALLY happening. This is a valid AU. There��s no trickery employed. No illusions. This is a new timeline that is VERY real.

So, why?! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!?!

.........................towards the end of the chapter, there’s an argument made that humanity has to suffer and overcome trials and struggle in order to develop and grow. Of course, we’ve fairly well shot down the idea that there’s zero suffering in this reality (see Concern #2 above) or that there’s no effort required (see Concern #3 above). But even if we hadn’t, there’s a bigger question to face here: Is there any evidence to suggest that people WON’T grow or evolve without struggle and suffering? Can we actually back that up, this idea that we have to “overcome” in order to become better people? 

I submit that we cannot. I further submit that this is the argument of the downtrodden; the argument of the sufferers who wish to justify their own misery to themselves. But in reality? They can’t say for certain that loss and trauma are “good.” 

In fact, let me argue right now that such things are inherently BAD. People who suffer from PTSD are far more likely to have suicidal ideation, and a 2021 study showed that suicide rates are more than four times higher for people suffering from PTSD than without. If we could really erase trauma and PTSD from our world, I think we can safely say it’d make a VERY lasting impact that would be EXTREMELY worth doing.

It seems that the “spirit of rebellion” within the Phantom Thieves extends to “any decision or idea any adult has ever implemented regardless of merit.” They’re teenagers, after all... and not a single one of them is as mature as someone like P3′s Mitsuru, so I accept that their knee-jerk rebellious instincts might be overriding their ability to think logically. 

Or, let’s be more charitable about it. MAJOR DIGRESSION: This could be a situation kind of like writing Star Trek: Insurrection. (I know most of you won’t understand what I’m referencing here. I’m sorry.) That movie presents a sticky ethical debate: Is it OK for a government to forcibly relocate a population of 600 people if their current homeland contains some natural healing mojo that could be used to save *billions* of people across the galaxy? Patrick Stewart once said that he was forced to make Picard very narrow-minded in order to serve the needs of the movie’s story. Because if that same story was presented in the format of multiple TV episodes, there would’ve been time to explore a bunch of alternative solutions that weren’t as binary as “force them out and take all the healing mojo OR leave them be and don’t take any of the healing mojo.” There would obviously be multiple negotiable middle grounds that just aren’t discussed because of time constraints. (To his credit, Picard DOES try to throw up a bunch of alternatives during his confrontation with a superior officer. They’re all shot down with hand-wavey explanations, but at least a few are suggested.)

DIGRESSION OVER. My point? Maybe that’s how it is here, too. Maybe the Phantom Thieves just can’t afford to sit around and discuss this matter in a serious debate because the game is already SUPER long; they need to get the fuck on with it and not just pump you full of non-interactive cutscenes, so Ryuji simplifies everything. ............. It’s just that he does so in a manner that makes the squad look really short-sighted and selfish.

In Conclusion

I took Maruki’s deal. That was MY ending to the game. And it might very well be the best ending available! Although I’d be willing to at least consider the original Non-Royal, didn’t-completely-Maruki’s-Confidant ending as a semi-contender... but DANG, yo. It’s tough to beat the Mega-Happy New Reality Ending. (I subsequently watched the rest of the “True” ending only on YouTube playthroughs, which is where I nabbed these screenshots.)

Taking Maruki’s deal results in basically everybody getting a fulfilling, beautiful life. Although I admit that I have no idea how Akechi is now part of the new reality... because he was never going to accept it, right? And we established repeatedly that those who don’t accept it can’t really reap the benefits, so... why is he now a legitimate “detective prince” whose external behavior from the first few chapters of P5 is now actually who he is inside? How’d THAT ever happen? Not sure about that shit.

Even so, it’s a long and beautiful ending full of gorgeous art of the squad all living their best lives. Morgana is relegated to just carrying “Miss Ann’s” bags while shopping, and he doesn’t even care - he’s just happy to be there. Makoto and Sae get to have dinners with their father again. Haru is more directly involved in the “Big Bang Burger” business, working to keep it ethical and respectful of the neighborhoods where they open as she prepares to carve her own path after high school. Makoto and Haru even get to graduate.

The whole thing wraps up with Sojiro inviting Joker to finish his high school experience in Tokyo. That’s right - he’s asked if he’d like to stay at the cafe and Shujin for his third and final year. Naturally, he’s happy to accept the offer. That means he’ll even be there for an overlap with Futaba’s FIRST year in high school. (Plus he no longer has to return to his small suburban town and his parents who NEVER ONCE CALLED OR MESSAGED DURING THE YEAR, WTF??? ............ or uh, maybe that happened offscreen?) 

It’s really weird how the writers of Persona 5 Royal SO THOROUGHLY argued against any possible downside of Maruki’s new reality. I get that they wanted a complex issue to grapple with, but if they really wanted us to choose to reject the new world and pursue the True Ending, they should’ve given us some kind of good reason, right? Even if it’s just a small reason, there’s got to be an argument that’s better than “I don’t like the idea that the timeline has changed”... which is ultimately all they’ve got. But I listed all the possible concerns above, and... they didn’t leave a single one of them standing. If they’d put just ONE of those potential problems in place, maybe I’d find the matter more debatable. 

Well, probably not Concern #5. That’s not really enough to justify erasing all this societal progress.

MC being sexually harassed by another doctor (Sentaro Kyogoku x MC) (Scenario)

Trigger warning: Sexual harassment

Author's note: The name Dr. Takahashi was chosen randomly.

Summary: Sentaro wanted to help MC enlarge her medical knowledge, however he had no idea where that would make to her.

"Do you want to train under Dr. Takahashi?" Sentaro asked MC while in the EICU headquarters. He knew from the start what her reaction would be: big eyes full of enthusiasm, clapping hands, and unintelligible blabbering. When she finally got hold of herself, MC nodded and spiraled into continuous confirmations. "Butthead," Sentaro mumbled but didn't forget to pat her head.

Dr. Kyogoku hoped that MC's reaction was the same every time she woke up, understanding that she would spend another day with him. Okay, he knew that his girlfriend was at least half as animated in the mornings because of this, thankful she was a step away from reaching her dreams of saving lives and having the love of her life near her. MC would spend twenty-four hours with one of the leading doctors from the NICU, but Dr. Kyogoku was still the best in MC's eyes.

A curious and slightly jealous Sen met MC after her shift with homemade breakfast. However, instead of seeing an exalted MC who could barely shut her mouth, he met an absent-minded girl who didn't glance at the meat on the table.

"Was it a hard shift?" Sentaro asked while munching on something random from the table.

MC looked at him for a while and tried to smile. However, her lips contorted into a thin line that accentuated the bags under her eyes. She shook her head and walked to the bedroom she shared with her boyfriend. Dr. Kyogoku wanted to know more about her shift, her experience with Dr. Takahashi, the differences between them, and maybe some tips. Though, not after MC's sleep, nor any other day he got any information. All he could find was that it was normal and a little about the patients. Sen cared about the patients. It was his job. But he could read their reports. What he wanted to know was about the doctor. A furrow appeared between Sen's brows, a furrow that would grow only deeper.

The first time Sen had a hunch that something wasn't alright was the next day at the EICU headquarters when MC moved her chair a little further from Takado when he sat near her. The furrow spread to the orthopedist. Yet, everyone knew MC and her antics, so there was no reason to get worried, was it?

However, the furrow was more contagious than anyone could expect. Its next victim was Ekuni, whose entire couch got avoided by the once clumsy MC who tripped on him every other day. Poor Hosho had it even worse because his existence was entirely ignored.

The circle was complete when MC flinched under Kasumi's touch when his hand found its place on her shoulder during a meeting. That was when everyone understood that something had happened, and it wasn't just about MC's antics. So, Kasumi had to do something about this because MC was a part of his team, a dear friend, and Sen's most important person.

"Did you observe it?" the cardiologist asked Sen after a meeting in his office. The pediatrician didn't need an explanation to know what his boss was talking about. His shoulder fell, and he let out a long breath.

"Something happened. Why don't you try to cheer her up? Maybe a change of environment will help?"

Sen didn't know what to say but knew he had to do something. For the rest of the day, he tried small tricks on MC to cheer her up: ate ramen with her, used more of his voice, and spent most of the day in her company. However, nothing changed even when they found themselves in Sen's car. So, the boyfriend had to use the last resort.

"What do you think about another shift with Dr. Takahashi?" Sen tried, even if he hadn't talked his over with the doctor.

At these words, MC's eyes got bigger, and she tried to say something, but nothing coherent left her lips. All Sen could understand was his girlfriend's head shook. Something happened, and this had to do with Dr. Takahashi. On the next red light, the man put a hand on MC's thigh, in an attempt to calm her and encourage her to open up. However, she flinched even harder than when Kasumi touched her. She moved her leg, trying to escape from her boyfriend's touch. Sen apologized, then apologized again. Even if it was something normal to rest his hand on her thigh, he had to accept that it made her uncomfortable. He wanted to talk to her about this as soon as possible, but MC ran out of the car when he stopped and shut herself in the bathroom. After an hour, she left but chose to take the side of the bed nearer to the wall, pressing herself entirely on it and putting as much space between her and Sen as possible.

Sen couldn't let it slide. MC was his girlfriend and the most precious person in his life. If she couldn't talk about what had happened, he had to find out by himself. And the fastest route to do it was to go to the first clue - the person after whose interaction with MC had changed: Dr. Takahashi.

It wasn't as if Dr. Kyogoku and Dr. Takahashi were besties. They had a purely professional relationship where they were the happiest not to interact outside the hospital. However, they respected each other as doctors, which was the reason behind Sen's possibility to send MC to study under him. But he was ready to throw everything under the bus if it was for MC.

"I came here to ask you about my protege," Sen started with one of his signature smiles.

"MC? She is one of the best residents I have met in my entire career. You taught her well."

For a second, Dr. Kyogoku let a genuine smile reach his lips. He couldn't stop himself from feeling proud of MC. She was one of the best. However, he didn't have to forget why he was there.

"Did you have any emergencies then? Lost a patient?"

Dr. Takahashi shook his head. They had two operations during the day and then did check-ups. Sen was ready to leave and ask the nurses and the patients or even try to make MC talk. However, the second he stepped outside, he heard Dr. Takahashi mumbling: "Poor thing you are the one who took MC first. Fantastic body and soul."

And it clicked. The furrow between Dr. Kyogoku's brows grew the deepest, and the anger took control of him. With heavy steps, he approached his colleague and took him by the collar.

"What did you just say? What did you do?"

The older doctor tried to step back to escape Sen's fury. However, the grip on his collar was too strong.

"I did nothing wrong. I just listened to my desires. And don't tell me that you have never thought about touching that butt at least once."

Maybe Dr. Takahashi thought he did nothing wrong and was too sure of men's solidarity. But it didn't stop Sen from punching him in the face. In an attempt to save his butt, the offender took a heavy book from his desk, ready to avenge himself. Yet, Dr. Kyogoku was faster and made his opponent drop the improvised weapon. That weakened his defense, and a punch found its place on his lips. Thankfully, the nurses heard the noise and ran to stop the two doctors. Five minutes later, both of them were in the HR office.

MC had no idea what her boyfriend discussed with Dr. Takahashi and the HR department. What she knew was that she had to take care of Sen's wound as gently as possible.

"That's for the first time you touch me in days," Sentaro whispered.

MC let go of Sen's chin and looked at her feet. A tear fell down her cheek.

"You know what happened, don't you?"

"Broadly," Dr. Kyogoku nodded.

That made MC break. She covered her face with her hands, and fat tears fell on the ground.

"Can I touch you?" a heartbroken Sen asked, afraid to hurt MC even more. After he got her approval, he put his hands around her shivering body. "It's okay. I won't let anything like this happen again. It wasn't your fault."

MC's weak hand found its place against her boyfriend's chest. She couldn't talk just then. But she would. And even if she wouldn't, Sen was ready to be near her as long as she needed him and a little longer.

So the way I'd recommend approaching the situation definitely depends on whether it looked like the person in question was aware and on board with her friend giving you her number. If that's something you can confirm from what you saw, then there's no real pressure and you can just open real casually with something like "hey, my name is <insert your name here>, I was getting food from <insert location> earlier when your friend came up to give me your number. Assuming that you're still interested, I figured maybe we could get to know each other over text a bit? If you're not interested anymore, please just let me know and I'll delete your number no questions asked and no pressure."

However, if the person in question was totally oblivious to what her friend was doing or if you're not sure if she knew, then that changes things a bit. Sometimes friends will do that sort of thing to tease someone (which is pretty shitty tbh, because just giving someone's number out without their knowledge isn't okay), so if it were me in your position and I suspected that was the case, I'd probably shoot the person a text to the effect of, "hey - your friend came up to me and gave me your number at <insert location> earlier when I was there grabbing food. Your friend said it was because you were interested in me, but I honestly wasn't sure if that was something you were even aware this friend was doing, or on board with. If that's the case, no problem at all - I'll delete your number immediately and I'm sorry for the inconvenience (I'm also sorry your friend did that). If you were aware and cool with it though, just let me know and maybe we could get to know each other a bit over text and see where that goes?"

Honestly any time something like this has happened to me, it's been obvious it was meant as a prank for the person in question so I didn't bother with any kind of follow up, but in a situation like you described I'm the kind of person who prefers direct and honest communication even with someone I haven't talked to before, so I'm more likely to just level with the other person and lay all my cards on the table and see what their response is while making it clear there's no pressure regardless of what the deal is.

Think of it this way, worst case scenario you end up deleting or blocking the number and going about your day with nothing changed - you haven't met this person before so her lack of presence in your life won't feel different from before this incident even happened. Best case scenario? She's completely on board, and this ends up being the start of something new and good for the both of you.

I wish I could say I've had some good pasta meals this week, but no dice - I did have an excellent chicken finger sub the other night though (and kinda want another one now just thinking about it lmao).
