Ancient ‘Puppets’ Discovered atop El Salvador’s Pyramid

Archaeologists have uncovered five ancient small clay figurines resembling puppets atop the largest pyramid at the ancient site of San Isidro, El Salvador, a discovery that could reshape the understanding of Central American cultural connections.

The figurines, dating back to around 400 B.C., may have played a role in public rituals, challenging long-standing beliefs that ancient El Salvador was isolated from neighboring civilizations.

Uncovering the past

San Isidro, located in western El Salvador, remains one of the country’s least-explored archaeological sites.

Unlike its neighbors, such as Guatemala and Honduras, El Salvador’s ancient history is poorly documented due to a combination of dense modern populations and layers of volcanic ash that have buried potential excavation sites.

“Very little is known about the identities and ethnolinguistic affiliations of the creators of ancient settlements that predate the arrival of Europeans in the early 16th century,” said Dr. Jan Szymański of the University of Warsaw. “This gets worse the further back in time we look.”

To bridge this gap, Szymański and fellow researcher Gabriela Prejs conducted the first excavations at San Isidro. Their work led to an unexpected find – a ceremonial offering resembling a burial site, but without human remains.

A rare discovery

Inside the offering, researchers discovered five clay figurines, marking only the second known discovery of such artifacts in their original placement. Notably, one figurine represents a male figure, making it unique among similar finds.

Three of the figurines feature movable heads, resembling ancient puppets. Researchers believe they were part of a staged performance, possibly used to tell stories or convey messages through ritual ceremonies.

“One of the most striking features of the puppets is their dramatic facial expression, which changes depending on the angle that we look at them from,” Szymański said.

“Seen from above they appear almost grinning, but when looked at from the level angle they turn angry or disdainful, to become scared when seen from below.”

Challenging historical assumptions

Similar figurines have been found in western El Salvador and southern Guatemala, while other objects in the offering, such as jade pendants, resemble artifacts from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

These similarities suggest San Isidro’s leaders maintained connections with distant regions, exchanging goods, traditions, and possibly even religious practices.

For years, scholars believed that ancient El Salvador was culturally isolated. However, the discovery at San Isidro indicates otherwise.

“This discovery contradicts the prevailing notion about El Salvador’s cultural backwardness or isolation in ancient times,” Szymański said. “It reveals the existence of vibrant and far-reaching communities capable of exchanging ideas with remarkably distant places.”

It adds to growing evidence that pre-Columbian El Salvador was part of a complex and interconnected world. As researchers continue to study San Isidro, they hope to uncover more clues about how its people engaged with their neighbors.

I personally think Jack had some type of attachment to Rhys, even if it wasn’t his intentions like… at all. Sure, getting back on Helios and taking over Rhys body was always the main goal, and whether he came to like Rhys or not wasn’t gonna stop him from going through with his plan, but Jack was almost predisposed to eventually become obsessed with him. Strap in, I’m about to ramble

First of all, I imagine that Rhys reminded him a lot of Angel. Rhys was young, he looked up to Jack almost naively so, but he was snarky and also defied him sometimes which Angel did too. I made a real long post about this a couple months ago but basically, Rhys and Angel share a lot of similarities in how Jack treated them. Jack probably did feel proud over Rhys at times, and thankful that it was Rhys and not some other Hyperion employee with the personality of a napkin. It feels more personal than just “let’s manipulate this kid and take his body”, even if that ultimately was the end goal.  And after Jack was plugged into Helios and found out about what happened to not just Angel but Nisha as well? Not to mention Wilhelm being dead and Timothy leaving for the casino? Rhys was the only one Jack somewhat trusted who wasn’t already dead or long gone

But also, imagine this: you’re quite literally inside someone else’s brain. Everything you see and hear, everywhere you go, everyone you interact with, is through this dweeb with the most questionable fashion sense on Pandora (which says a LOT). No one can see you except for him. You’re dependent on him in every sense of the word. If he pisses you off, you can’t do your usual routine of beating or killing him. You HAVE to get close to (or at the very least, used to) him, something your paranoid ass hasn't allowed yourself to do for years

And honestly, Rhys’ software has bled into Jack as much, if not more, as the Jack AI has bled into Rhys. This is just my personal headcanon but I definitely think some part of Jack felt a little hollow when he left Rhys’ head on Helios, almost like having a tooth ripped out (or… being the tooth that got ripped out). Some part of him expected Rhys to be as dependent on Jack as Jack was on him, which is why he thought Rhys would just mindlessly agree to essentially be his meat puppet. But then he not only rejected him, he tried to leave too. The only one Jack had left, who became such a huge part of his holographic life, physically and emotionally. The only one who hadn’t died, left or abandoned him up until this point, wanted to leave

Jack was back on Helios, back on his throne, and he had everything in his power to regain control of Hyperion. Despite how horrified Rhys was over Jack’s plan, he didn’t have any intentions to kill Jack, and had Rhys been any less important to Jack, he could have let him go or commanded someone else go after him while he focused on getting another employee to give him their body. The only problem was that Jack was attached to Rhys and took this as a betrayal, just like Angel and Moxxi had been close to him until they betrayed him too. So what if Helios paid the price for Jack’s revenge? So what if Jack was going to die killing Rhys? It was too personal to not risk everything for

This is a very complicated way of saying I definitely think Jack cared about Rhys, whether that be because he was emotionally attached or because he was literally inside this guy’s brain and couldn’t help but get attached. Everywhere he looked, there was Rhys and only Rhys. So yeah, he DEFINITELY thought about Rhys a lot. Probably more so than Katagawa did. It’s a special kind of horrific <3

The Hollow: Bad Ice Cream AU

They are here, they are ice creams! Oh no! THEY’VE BEEN ICECREAMIFIED!!!!! Dx

This was really fun to make since I had the idea for a while now since mid June, I hope you like them too as much as I do :3

Fun Facts:

Adam, Kai, Reeve, Vanessa and skeet were different flavors before I decided to change them to be color coded (somewhat color coded)

Adam was originally chocolate ice cream

Kai was originally vanilla ice cream

Reeve was going to be dark chocolate ice cream (yes, it’s a real flavor, I wonder what it tastes like :|c)

Skeet was gonna be mint chocolate chip but I decided sorbet ice cream fits him well

And Vanessa was the original strawberry ice cream before I gave that role to Kai

The reason why I switched Kai to be strawberry ice cream was thanks to this image:

After that I figured strawberry fit him best cause he would probably eat strawberry ice cream when he gets the chance to buy some

Kai has strawberry seeds as freckles in his face and shoulders (because I like the headcanon that Kai has freckles)

His hair is made of strawberry syrup with the black dots being seeds, like that one strawberry syrup that is pretty transparent that looks very pretty when you put it on ice cream

Adam also has the seeds treatment, just with chocolate chips :v

they are on his hair and shoulders just like Kai’s strawberry seeds, except there are less of them

The hollow logo in adam’s chest is made of chocolate syrup (it was too iconic to remove)

Mira’s hair was going to be blue like her body but it wouldn’t be that noticeable so I made it pink, bubblegum ice cream is usually depicted with blue and pink colors so that’s where I got it from :>

Mira is taller than Kai by one or two inches, because Mira being slightly taller than Kai is funny to me xd

Kai is the smallest out of everyone (lmao he short XD)

The reason why I switched skeet to be sorbet ice cream was because I headcanon he would rather eat sorbet ice cream than regular ice cream

he thinks sorbet ice cream is underrated

sorbet ice cream can be any flavor and this skeet would be passion fruit flavored, his hair is also made of sorbet and is mango flavored

Skeet is the tallest out of everyone (he a tall boi)

Reeve was gonna be dark chocolate flavored but then I changed my mind cause his locs wouldn’t be as noticeable (trust me, I tried)

Reeve’s hair is made out of bacon, the bacon is fried (might as well put a fried egg on top of his head)

He was also gonna have little bacon pieces on his shoulders like Kai and Adam but I thought of that after I finished coloring him (I’ll probably add those later if I draw them again)

I headcanon reeve would be disgusted at the idea of bacon ice cream, but at the same time would be like “but what if it taste good tho? >:/c”

bacon ice cream is a real ice cream flavor, I’m not joking you can search it up

Adam, Kai, and Reeve have orange lips, while skeet, mira, and vanessa have pink lips

Vanessa’s hair and eyebrows are made of licorice

There's an abyssal weight so hollow that it begins to churn and grind the insides of Reid's soul — his body protests and cries out in disgust at the pitiful excuse of what he's consumed. It's vile. Yet, it could be another kind of innocent laid bare, split open before him if not this. It's a sick but tenable sacrifice.

Reid could have sat there, sinking into the mud and the sin of his act for however long she'd let him. Praying to ruthless spirits and Gods for some way out that does not paint him a coward or a deserter of his one and only cause. Arms are wrapped around his knees — a childlike position, staring at the consequence of one's unforgivable actions.

Every hunter has their right of passage, he's participated in his long ago. Halstead wants no part of this tradition. But he's taken part, over and over and over —

His eyes close. His neck is slack under the pressure of her grasp. He's dirty here; covered in guts and grime — smearing remnants of his affair from his lips with antipathic self-hatred. How many times would he decide he did not mind if the trees parted for him and allowed him to be spotlighted by the star in the great sky? Every time, a voice reminds him — goading him at the rear of his mind as it fractures and tempers under the burden of this existence.

Reid doesn't give her the satisfaction of his agreement.

But when Nisha is upside down in his vision — his head wrenched back to look at her goading. He lets her stare him down for too long like he's a petulant child. Maybe he is a feral thing now, years of a shattered morality, humanity has him delusional when Eleazar presses all the buttons she's mastered over time. Halstead hasn't learned that the more he shoves her away, the more she buries her claws into him.

He just can't bring himself to play into her twisted games. That fickle pride he kids himself into clinging onto with all his might is no longer a tangible entity.

It might even have been easier if he gave him. None of this is elementary.

Reid's head is still processing how alone they are in the woods, with the death of this deceased creature as their proof of being there at all. What did it matter if he let rip on Nisha anyway? Isn't that everything she's always asking of him? (Isn't that the war inside him battling with giving in, and fighting still.)

Reid's hand snaps up to clench around the cold fist balling his hair, he squeezes, eyes darkening to an inhumane shade — a crimson pool that clouds the whites of his eyes. He feels his body burning the blood he's just consumed — Reid hisses involuntarily, his boots dig into the dewy ground of the forest when he launches at her.

He's ripped her hand out of his hair — tearing tufts of blonde along with it as he propels forward. Barreling into her. There's no target, he doesn't think to grab a twig or a branch like a hunter, he's another predator here. It's an instinctive reaction he's not conquered as of yet; he's explosive, teeth burying into anything soft, hands grasping at anything that pins her down.

Reid knows — deep in the pits of it all — it'll never last. And the consequence of attacking Nisha for taunting him, almost has him wondering if it's worth it.

Yet the taste of her blood in his mouth is an exhilaration he cannot help but lose himself to.

Nisha smiled -- one of pride and excitement -- as she watches Reid move towards the animal. She'd much prefer it to be a human that he is hunting but... baby steps. Although, her patience for his preferred prey has been growing thin as of late. She had thought it would be easier to convince him. To manipulate him into doing what she thought was right.

But the man insisted on keeping every last shred of his humanity that he could manage. Nisha had yet to try to fully break him in that aspect but she could feel the urge to do so like an itch underneath her skin.

The kill is quick. Much quicker than Nisha would have made it. It annoys her, in a way. That he chooses to not prolong the freshness of the blood.

She's behind him now, her fingers stretching along his scalp; playing with strands of his hair, as she stares down at the mess he'd made. "It's quite disgusting, isn't it?" She tilted her head to the side as her eyes fixated on the deer. Drinking animal blood had been one of the punishments she was given from her sire. Never being fully satisfied. Always craving more. Feeling dirty and horrible after drinking just a little.

Nisha blinked, forcing her thoughts to the present. To the dead deer in front of her. To Reid, who was now cursing at her, telling her to leave. She was used to it now -- the constant need for him to be away from her. Her grip tightened on his hair and she forced his head back until his face was tilted up towards her. "Did I say we were finished?" Her voice was sweet but her eyes had hardened. It was a rhetorical question. One that she hoped would make him think twice when it came to testing her.

Although, knowing Reid, he'd continue to do so.

"I also didn't teach you to waste your food. So drink until there's nothing left."

Wondering if The Hollow kids have limitations to their powers? Like, I don't think Kai or Nisha could ever run out of fire but, if I remember correctly, Kai's hands could possibly overheat? And if they're wet, it takes a few tries to light up?

And then there's Reeve. There seems to be a "weight" limit to his telekinesis. The heavier an object is the less items he can levitate (ex. Multiple barrels and only one car). Also, in the s2 finale when Reeve tries to hold off Iris in her giant form, he can't hold it for too long and gives out.

But, I can't recall any limitations for the other characters. So I'm curious if this aspect was intentional? And if it is, why are only these two powers limited? Was it always like this? Or did something happen in a past Hollow game that caused for a change to be implemented? So many questions...

I think the only time that was broadcast live was when they made contact with Team C・D(Nisha, Tyler, Iris and 3 people appeared in s2ep3). I don't think the scene where weirdy talks about top secret information was broadcast! Also in s1ep10, only teamA was aired at the big screen, so maybe they show only winners. I think the reason that weirdy appeared in TV in s2ep10 is that he wanted to avoid the situation like you said. Hollow games inc would say there was NO contact between weirdy and teamA・B!

However, indeed the chance that teamA・B will be deleted by developer is really high😨

How do they in real life feel if they know there is their digital copy in hollow life? I remembered many people were watching the hollow tournament in s1ep10 and I think the game in s2 was also watched by people. Then, maybe teamA・B(Adam,Mira,Kai,Reeve,Vanessa,Skeet) were also watching it. In that case, they might know about the existence of their digital copy!

Rating The Hollow Ships Because I’m Bored

*Clears throat* First of all I should mention these are just my opinions, straight up. Hell, I don’t even hate any of the ships I’m about to talk about, so I’m not making this to diss anyone. I’m more interested in seeing people reblog their own ratings for each ship I’m going to talk about. It’d make for an interesting discussion. Trying to keep this fandom alive SOMEHOW y’know?

Anyways let’s begin:

Kai x Adam/Kaidam:

Right here we got a classic. I honestly don’t really have a lot to say here; they have enough sauce (shipping material) in the canon for me to assess the vibes, and I like those vibes.

They’d be really cute together; they’re one of the softer couples.

Overall: 7.5/10

Adam x Reeve/Reedam:

Friends to enemies to friends to lovers? I can dig this! They have a lot going for them considering what was set up in season 2, and if season 3 had become a thing, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Reedam had become canon.

Not my favorite ship, but it's pretty cool.

Overall: 7/10

Reeve x Kai/Reekai:

OK HEAR ME OUT! Think about Kai slowly distancing himself from the gang now that Reeve is friends with Mira and Adam again. Imagine Kai internalizing what Adam told him in that castle, about there being an opening, and that he was "available," basically hinting that Kai was originally Reeve's replacement for the game, and nothing more (at first at least). Imagine Kai thinking Adam and Mira don't need him anymore. NOW imagine Reeve gets all soft for Kai, learns about their pity party and just showers them with tones of affection and tells them their amazing? Imagine Reeve getting protective of Kai. Imagine Reeve getting ANGRY at what Adam implied in that castle and forcing him to apologize to Kai. Imagine Reeve being more reserved in public, but showing more of his true self to Kai. Just...They'd be so cute! Probably chaotic too but so cute!

I'm litetlly foaminghg in my mouthe. GOOD STUFF RIGHT HERE THIS SOME GOOD GOOD STUFF! OTP. Best thing I ever thought of. I shipped them as a joke at first and I don’t regret it in the slightest!

Reeve x Adam x Kai/Reekaidam:

Boys, Gals, and nonbinary pals, I present to you: The Big Gay™. Seriously, this is the best of both worlds. You get Kai being doted on, Adam being sweet to his boyfriends, AND Reeve being a tsundere with a heart of gold.

One of the greatest things to have been conceived.

Overall: 9.5/10

Skeet x Mira/Skira:

Yes, amazing. Beautiful. I’m surprised they aren’t canonically sweethearts and haven’t given each other promise rings. So much subtext man, so much.

Mira x Vanessa/Vanira:

I honestly don't know how to feel about this one. I feel like people only ship this because back in season 1 Mira and Vanessa were the only wamen and therefore the only possible lesbian couple despite the fact that they don't really got a lot of sauce going on in both seasons. Can’t say I blame you guys though.

Can't really determine the vibes but if I think about it really hard, yeah, it could be cute!

Kai x Vanessa/Kainessa:

Makes me...pretty uncomfortable to be honest? Like the first season? Nah! Kai deserves better. After the second season? Um sir I'm sorry but they are literally each others emotional support siblings and have sleepovers where they braid each others hair and trash-talk their friends. As a BROTP? Heck yeah! As an actually relationship? Only under specific circumstances. I don’t know, maybe because it was so unnaturally forced in both seasons.

I'm sorry but I personally it’s not really my thing. No shade to those who do though, I can see how it appeals to other people.

Overall: 3.5/10

Nisha x Iris/Irsha:

Now this is what you call an adorable lesbian couple. These two would defend each other to hell. They’re basically the “We are going to beat you to death” duo. Iris possibly being nonbinary makes it even better.

Iris x Tyler/Tyris:

This ship is basically two soft babies blushing like tomatoes over unprotected handholding™. Probably cuddle on the couch while watching anime and infodump about their favorite shows onto each other.

The purest ship in The Hollow to ever exist, period. I love it.

Tyler x Nisha/Tysha:

The Girlboss and the Malewife duo. Nothing else needs to be said, this alone makes the ship great. Tyler loves his feisty girlfriend very much and Nisha gives her boyfriend plenty of attention in their freetime.

Adorable. I dig it.

I had a dream last night where I had to interview all of The Hollow kids and it was honestly super fun. I don't remember much, but the thing I remember the most was how chaotic Nisha, Iris, and Tyler were

So how the interviews went was each person had to be interviewed individually and everyone was okay with it except for this team. They were like "No. We're in the same room😠😠😡" and I was like "oh uh okay🕴"

So I'm starting the interview and like they were all just so fun???? Tyler was a huge fucking goofball, Nisha was sarcastic asfuck and Iris was just so fuckin sweet🥺🥺

So the interview continues and all hell breaks lose when I ask "So how did you all meet?" And they all just start talking over each other (here's what it was kinda like):

Nisha: WE LITERALLY MET AT SCHOOL WHEN MISS HANSON PUT US IN A GROUP

Tyler: STFU IT WAS AT CHRISTMAS WHEN OUR FAMILIES FORCED US TO HANG OUT

Nisha: YOU'RE SUCH A LIAR THIS IS WHY YOUR SISTER HATES YOU

Tyler: I KNOW YOU AINT TALKING WITH YOUR MOMMY ISSUES

Iris leaning to talk to me: we met at the park when they beat up my old bullies...

(To elaborate on that they all lived in the same apartment complex and they all met in the nearby park when Tyler and Nisha defended Iris when she was getting bullied)
