Okay, you would think I would take this to gush about Bull.frog, Demo, Scout, Sun Wukon.g or Zuke, or even Eloni. But I'm gonna throw a curve ball- IM GONNA GUSH ABOUT BLINKOUS GALADRIGAL AKA BLINKY INSTEAD CAUSE STUFF HAPPENED!!!
He's probably one of my long-time f/os that I've been interested in since....uh I genuinely can not remember tbh lol. But he's so sweet and dorky and AAAAAAAAAA
JUST LOOK AT HIM HES SO CUTE AND HANDSOME AND HIS VOICE IS SO NICE!!
I love him so much that when the crush on him came back recently, I ended up digging through a storage box just to find the plush of him. I only have one piece of merch of him cause it's hard finding stuff involving only him tbh (I wouldn't mind finding more merch, tho). I love this historian so much, and I wish there was more media or merch of him. He's a genuinely amazing character in my opinion.

Love the thought of Leo and Mikey teaming up their mystic abilities to prank archeologists and historians
Leo makes a portal then within that, Mikey opens a very very small time portal of his own
They toss something in and excitedly wait for the results of the dig-site right where Leo had set his portal to
Cue mass confusion as the archeologists wonder what the hell a 1000+ year old Lou Jitsu figurine is doing in the ruins of an ancient city all the while Mikey and Leo laugh themselves unconscious

fuck it, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and write a fic about James Logan ‘Wolverine’ Howlett x reader. I intend to make this a long-ass series, lmk if you’d like that. I’m gonna do it anyway but would like to know if anyone would read it.
I haven’t written anything in like 4 years so it might start a little shitty so bear with me 🙏
Second Chance
Pairing: James Logan Howlett/Wolverine x Mutant!Magneto’s sister!Reader
friends to lovers to strangers to enemies to frenemies to friends to lovers (not all in 1 chapter dw)
Warnings: Historical inaccuracy (I’m not a historian pls 😩), afab!fem!reader, use of y/n, I’m shit at summaries so it’s gonna feel a bit bullet pointy (lmk if there’s more)
Added notes: considering the reader is Magneto’s sister, that would make her Jewish, you obviously don’t have to be Jewish to read this. I myself am not Jewish, however, I put myself very much into this character and I feel Magneto and myself are very similar personality-wise so making him the brother of the character that I have created made sense to me, their mutations are also kinda similar. What Erik went through during the Second World War isn’t mentioned in this because I felt that was incredibly insensitive of me considering I in no way relate to it, but if I do state anything that causes issue please inform me and I will change it. (tbh I tried not to mention the happenings of the war at all because I know very little about it but still, let me know)
Summary: You were only young when the war began. As a young woman in 1939 you could do very little to assist, so you became a nurse. What you didn’t realise was how much tragedy, heartbreak and indescribable desire this choice was going to bring you.
Word Count: 1.4K
Hope you enjoy <3
Nuremberg 1924, Jakob and Edie Eisenhardt had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl, y/n. You were an independent, strong-willed child, never ill, and learning to walk and talk long before others your age. So, when you were four, and your mother gave birth to your little sister Ruth, a sickly child, your mother’s attention was ripped from you, far more concerned with your sister's wellbeing, with her constantly slipping in and out of illness. Your father was also away a lot with work, leaving you to entertain yourself. You were never fazed much, preferring the company of your family dog, Otto, your playful 2-year-old border collie.
Your strange connection to the earth began to show not long after your little sister was born. Not thinking much at the young age of four, of the strange habit animals had of following you, the way the flames in the fireplace would dance whenever you were near, and how the wind would bend around you. Then, two years later, Max was born. He was just like you, strong-willed and stubborn. You adored your little brother, taking him everywhere with you. Walking with his pram with Otto through the fields that surrounded your home.
As you grew, you began to slowly notice not only your oddities but also your brothers. The way he would drop his knife or fork whilst eating dinner, and then command it straight back to his hand, the voice you thought was in your head, speaking to you as if it was- Otto?! Yes, very odd. You brushed it off, knowing that if you were to tell your parents, they would treat you as if you were a silly little child begging for attention. By the time you were fourteen, however, it was far too noticeable to just push aside. The flames began to roar in the fireplace, the voice which you refused to believe was Otto began becoming far too clear, and even the spiders you would remove from your house began to sound as if they were shouting at you. At least your brother had calmed down, with him being eight you supposed his childlike lack of care had faded away. One less problem to deal with.
A year later, the war began. Your father had insisted upon you taking your brother and sister to England with you, where you would be staying with your uncle in the countryside. Ruth came along easily, Max on the other hand refused to leave your mother and father, too afraid to be apart from them. After days of arguments, your parents gave in, allowing just you and your sister to travel to England, ensuring that Max would be safe with them. The following day, your bags were packed and you were ready to part from the only home you had ever known. You said your goodbyes and reluctantly waved your home farewell.
“Promise me they’ll be okay” Ruth pleaded, snapping you away from your train of thought.
“They’ll be alright Ruthie” you gave her a half smile, only half believing your own words. “Mother and father promised, remember?” you continued.
She gave a curt nod, continuing the silence.
Your life in England was different, to say the least. Your uncle Erich was a stoic man, never caring much for children, though you and your sister tried to do your best by him as thanks. At the age of 16, you left high school and began a nursing training program, in hopes of aiding those fighting in the war.
The three years were gruelling. The war had disrupted your schooling, having to break during your travels, leaving you behind the other trainees. You refused to let that hinder your progress, you feared for your family every day, the least you could do was help those who could be helped. As awful as the past three years had been, you made it through your training, and eventually, on the 10th of June 1944, you arrived in Normandy, to assist your wounded troops.
The medical tents are awful, to say the least. They’re cramped, sweaty and reek of... men. You make your way to the end of the tent and are greeted by a tall, tanned, gorgeous man. He seems unscathed, lying comfortably in one of the beds.
“Hey there soldier” you greet him. His deep brown eyes meeting yours. “Anything I can do for you?” you continue, eyeing him over once more.
“You tell me bub” his Canadian accent catches you off guard. “They sent me in here, told ‘em I was fine” There’s a slight humorous tone to his voice.
“I’ve seen all the bloodshed out there” you counter. “You trying to tell me you went through all that with not even a scratch to show for it?” he grins.
“Guess I’m just indestructible” he shrugs.
“Or just very lucky” you argue. “Well, if you’re completely fine I’d appreciate it if you could leave the space for someone who needs it” you give him a tight smile, not exactly wanting the beautiful stranger to leave, but needing to put your job first.
“I don’t see anyone out there waiting” he retorts. “James Howlett” offering you his hand.
“Y/n” you ignore his outstretched arm, staring quizzically at him.
“Well, Miss y/n” he stands. “It was a pleasure. I hope to be seeing you again” he grins at you once more and begins making his exit.
“I hope not” you shout to him, in hopes he can hear you, smiling quietly to yourself.
You continued your work for the next few days, aiding men with injuries far worse than you had seen before. Then, after the few days that followed, the stranger that you now knew as James, was back in your care once again, and just like the last time, you discharged him. It became routine, every few days, you would find James lying in one of your beds, completely unharmed. You would discharge him after a quick checkup, and then a few days later you’d find him lying there yet again, like clockwork. You began to form a friendship with the impenetrable soldier, dismissing his flirtatious remarks with witty underhand comments. The banter between the two of you came easily, taking jabs at one another constantly, and having conversations that came with no struggle. This continued for weeks, his visits becoming more frequent, your conversations once full of banter, now riddled with flirtation.
“Oh c’mon bub” his deep Canadian voice implored you. “You not even gonna check me over? I could be dying” he smirked.
you raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
“Oh yeah? Where are you wounded sweetheart?” you encouraged. “Here?” you placed a flat hand over his bare chest, slowly dragging it down.
“No.” he stopped you, your heart began to race, redness adorning your cheeks. Had you taken it a step too far, had you read his signals wrong, was he just- the clearing of his throat willed you back from your thoughts.
“Right here” he pointed his finger to his lips. “Heard kissing it better helps” that cocky smirk meeting you once again. He offered you his hand, this time not ignoring it, you outstretched yours. His fingers barely grazed yours, hand slowly rising to your wrist. He grabbed it lightly, giving you time to pull away, when you didn’t, he gave a sharp tug, causing you to topple into him. His eyes locked with yours, a feeling so familiar, and yet in this instance, so foreign. His hand, now placed on your lower back, moving slowly to cup the back of your head, the other grasping your waist. Your hands were firmly placed on either side of his head, unable to move in fear of falling. He slowly pulled himself up, your faces much closer than before. He waited, giving you one last chance to pull away, you didn’t, holding his gaze unwavering. You could feel his breath fanning your face, his stubble tickling your skin.
The kiss was soft. Far from rushed.
He held you gently, as if you were fragile, ready to break at any moment. The kiss didn’t last long, the sounds of the other patients snapping you both back to reality.
“You should go” you whisper into his lips, unable to now meet his gaze.
“I suppose I should” he agrees, grabbing your chin, forcing your gaze to meet his. You stare once again into his brown eyes, the closeness allowing you to see the green specs that litter his irises. “Till next time, yeah sweetheart?” he gives me one last kiss before making his exit.
“Next time.”

Felt like sharing some speculation today:
All right, so we know My Hero Academia has the something of the same premise as X-Men in the sense that select a group of humans were suddenly born with powers, the whole 'evolution leaps forward’ deal.
We see in My Hero how the First Generation of people with Quirks, especially the ones who appeared non-human or semi non-human, were originally ostracized like the mutants of X-Men are, but then more people were born with powers and then more people had powers until it became a widespread phenomenon and ‘normal’ people became the minority and society had to restructure itself to accommodate the new normal.
But have you read The Resurrectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black?
The plot is a 19th century doctor who theorizes that mythical creatures like the minotaur, harpies, sirens, and the like all existed millions of years ago but slowly interbred with humanity and eventually died out altogether. So he believed that when someone was born with extra fingers, limbs, a tail or otherwise didn’t have the typical human shape, it wasn’t so much a mistake in genetic coding as it was the extremely recessive genetics of those ancient creatures trying to reoccur in the modern day.
...
Definitely an interesting premise, so now I’m wondering if the My Hero world has a cult, conspiracy theorists, or even some scientists/historians that have similar views regarding mythology.
If this whole Quirk thing happened back in the Stone Age where no one had the benefit of science or awareness of DNA, anyone born with an otherworldly power would have been worshipped as a deity. Or the ones born with a non-human appearance would have been reviled as monsters.
So following the idea of The Resurrectionist, maybe the sudden appearance of superpowers did lead people to take a closer look at the old myths and consider the stories of the gods/goddesses of old were originally stories of people with 'Quirks' who rose to power. Humans with meta-powers ruled the world for a few centuries, then those powers inexplicably died off. For a variety of reasons or maybe unknown reasons, humanity lost that history but remembered the old stories and chalked them up to just myth until the powers that made it possible began to reappear full force several millennia later.
Some myths began as historical events but in being handed down hundreds of generations, the multiple tellings and retellings exaggerated them into the realm of impossibility.
Lightning/electricity powers: Zeus, Thor, Hinon
Fire powers: Hephaistos, Surtr, Hestia, the phoenix
Foresight: Any seer, prophet, or oracle that appears in any myth ever
Ice powers: Yuki-onna, Skadi, Morana
Water powers: Poseidon, Chalchiuhtlicue, Anuket, Tlaloc
Plant-related Quirks: Demeter
Gigantification Quirks: Giants, titans, nephilim
Ryukyu: Is a dragon. ‘nuff said.
All Might: Herakles
Tokoyami having a bird head but otherwise appearing human is pretty reminiscent of the old Egyptian gods.
Hawks: Any winged creature; take your pick. Personally, the one that comes to mind for me is Hermes. He only had wings on his sandals, sure, but the trickster archetype resonates.
Tsuyu: Naiads, nymphs, rusalki, any kind of water fae
Momo: Sedna (created sea life from her finger bones), Ukemochi no Kami (produces food from her own body)
Best Jeanist: This one's a bit of a reach, but the fabric thread thing coupled with the long, spider-like limbs kinda brings to mind the story of Arachne the weaver.
We do get a nod to Ancient Greek mythology with the prison Tartarus. What better place to lock away beings with god-like powers than the prison of the Titans itself?
Obviously an incomplete list, but you see my point.
Personally, I'm leaning toward cultist ideology with this one as I find it hard to believe every civilization would have forgotten about a previous appearance of Quirks. But civilizations die off, civilizations are overrun by others and their histories are suppressed, maybe this hypothetical 'previous Quirk phenomenon' wasn't as widespread as the current one and so fewer people were affected and therefore fewer people were alive to verify the truth of facts, maybe this hypothetical time was from an age of oral history and nothing was documented properly, so not impossible just really, really improbable.
Still, I love mythology and I find it an interesting headcanon to think about.

Hero Alexander vs. The Real Alexander
Moving to the second half of a recent question:
And if I'm not wrong, you mention at one place that you don't "heroize" Alexander. That's interesting, since he's often worshiped as a mythical hero. Why did you move away from that?
As a writer (and a reader), I’ve always been intrigued by the challenge of humanizing the “inhuman” (which can also include the ridiculously talented).
When I fell in love with Tolkien as a girl, I wanted to know what it would be like to be an elf, to have magic, to live that long, etcetera. Maybe that’s also why I always preferred Marvel superheroes over DC. Their hallmark was to make the fantastic (mutants, etc.) more human.
Now, I love me some traditional mythopoetic fantasy, but I’m no good at producing it myself. What is mythopoetic style? Peter Beagle, Patricia McKillip, Nancy Springer, C.J. Cherryh’s sidhe novels, my friend Meredith Ann Pierce … and of course Tolkien himself, where magic is real and magical creatures are…well, magical. Inhuman. Elves … not hobbits. Like a fairy tale…a myth (hence “mythopoetic”).
Anyway, I love reading that, but can’t write it to save my soul. When I write epic/historical fantasy (and I do see SFF as my home genre), it’s closer to anthro SF than to any mythopoetic style. My current MIP (monster-in-progress) is a 6-book series set on a secondary world where two branches of humanity survived, one of which, the Aph, have super-convenient prehensile tails. 😊 The character journey for one of the protags across the first three novels is to recognize the Aphê as human and fallible rather than as a “noble savage” wise people. (Yes, questions of “What does it mean to be ‘civilized’?” are among the series themes.)
When it comes to historical fiction, I take the same tack. Alexander is interesting to me because he was a real person who accomplished extraordinary things.* What might he have been like in real life?
Making him too perfect—good at everything, no/few mistakes (just misunderstood), always honorable, etc., bores me. That’s the Alexander of his own marketing campaign. (laugh) It was adopted and refined by some later historians such as Arrian, and Plutarch in his rhetorical pieces (less in the Life but still there). That’s why I’m not a huge fan of Renault’s Alexander, and generally prefer her other Greek novels. Manfredi and (sorta) Pressfield do the same. Tarr and Graham also keep him deliberately at a distance to allow him to remain heroized, but it bothers me less because he’s at a distance. (Btw, I do not dislike Renault's ATG novels; they're just not among my favorites, either on Alexander, or of hers.)
Yet I’m not a fan of the other approach, either: to “humanize” him by taking him down a notch—making him NOT all that, just lucky (Lucian, and Nick Nicastro). Or by upending the heroic narrative altogether and turning him into a megalomaniacal “wicked tyrant” ala Pompeius Trogus/Justin or Seneca (and Chris Cameron).
I want something (and someone) more relatable, even while letting him remain truly astonishing. To humanize the “inhuman.” I realize that’s a challenge as, the moment we do humanize him, it removes him from the realm of the hero, which in turn makes it harder to allow him to be “all that.” For some, any fault is “too much”—the proverbial clay feet—because they’re desperate to have an idol, a hero…not a person. So the haters come out when, for instance, Simone Biles pulled out of the Olympics for mental health and the Twisties. How dare she!
I’m interested in the person. Even if Alexander wanted to be Herakles Take II, he wasn’t inhuman (divine). He was just a guy, and for me, the fact he was “just a guy,” yet still accomplished all those extraordinary things, is the most remarkable part.
I’ll conclude with what I wrote at the end of the author’s note in the back of Dancing with the Lion: Rise (also available on the website):
In the end, whatever approach one takes to Alexander, whatever theories one subscribes to, more or less hostile to the conqueror, we are left with the man himself in all his complexity and contradiction. The phenomenon called “Alexander the Great” has evoked vastly different interpretations from his era to ours. It’s tempting to seek internal consistency for his behavior, or to force it when it can’t be found. Yet no one is consistent. Even more, history itself is distorted by those recording it in order to serve their unique political narratives, whether then or now. Conflicting politics create competing narratives, and histories of Alexander were (and are) especially prone to such distortions. That, in turn, brings us back to where we began: history (like historical fiction) is about who we are now, and what it’s possible for us to become. So Alexander was neither demon nor god, whatever he wanted to believe about himself. He was a man, capable of cruelty and sympathy, brilliance and blindness, paranoia and an open-handed generosity. As remarkable as he was, he was human. And that's what makes him interesting.
--------------------
* That some of these extraordinary things would be—and should be—reviled by modern standards is part of the uncomfortable contradiction, and legacy, of the ancient world. This is something I also try to depict in the novel. So there is never a “simple win” in a battle. There’s something ugly shown in or as a result of every single one. On purpose. Battle is, and should be, deeply disturbing.

Mondo and Draxum concepts jumpscare
Genevieve Draxum AKA Mondo Gecko
16, she/her, White Striped Gecko
Mondo was raised by Draxum to be his right hand and to be a suitable warrior for battle. Unfortunately for him, she is a teenager with an attitude and her own disagreements about him turning people into fish people. She just wants to try and enjoy life, unburdened and care-free.
Ability: Creating portals through time and space
Drawback: This is MAJORLY draining for her and she needs time to bounce back before trying to make another portal.
Magnus Draxum AKA Baron Draxum
age unknown but super old, he/him, Jacob Sheep
Draxum has been around for a long time and was a part of the first mutated animals. He has been a historian/recordkeeper for the longest time, keeping tabs and writing about the history of the mutants. He resents that the humans chased them into hiding. He was one of the few that survived the abduction of the mutants many years ago. After the founding of the Gateway Guardians, he became a member in hopes of defending what few mutants were still left. Draxum wanted to create more mutants to make sure the Guardians had ample backing, but they basically told him no.
Draxum tried to raise Genevieve as a second in command to him, but she soon was able to form her OWN opinions about him making mutant fish men and wanted nothing to do with it. The two have had a major rift in their relationship, which on the surface doesn't bother him. Deep down though, he's a bit hurt and angry by what he feels like a betrayal.
Ability: Very slow aging
Drawback: Due to being as old as he is, his body is being moreso held together by the ooze in his body. He has a long while before his body succumbs to age entirely, but for now, his horns are cracked and will glow, his hair is turning a teal that will only turn more cyan with age, and his eyes (once orange) have turned blue.

God-Emperor of Dune is a book composed of about 75% philosophical pontificating, inner monologues and quotes from in-universe historians. It is also a book that opens with a guy picking up a mutant super-wolf twice his size and swinging it around his head like a flail

So where did the idea that dharma is a god that they worshipped in shady sands come from? when I asked about dharma in my playthrough I just got answers abt him being a wise man that I should heed. Was that bit supposed to be an example of the way anthropologists/historians just get shit wrong? Or is there textual evidence I missed?
fucking beats me boss. i advised against that "alien gods" line. this is what i originally wrote
█ Within the Communal Hall, the esteemed mayor Aradesh conducted his duties. He was guided in his leadership by the words of a figure remembered as Dharma, and quoted this wise man frequently. █ Despite being described as "religious," whatever specific tradition the guru belonged to is unknown. █ Other villagers would quote Dharma as well, but to outsiders, it was unclear if they were referring to an ancient historical figure, a pre-War religious leader, or an influential villager who had passed in recent history. His metaphorical parables are presented in a very agrarian context, removed from modern life, which would seem to imply a post-War origin--but this could, just as easily, be chalked up to the colloquial revision of history over time. These parables would naturally be expressed in terms that could be understood by the average Wastelander. A "game of telephone," if you will. It's even possible that these sayings were the truly ancient teachings of a distant ancestral culture, preserved carefully through the modern era, recast in a newly-literal context as the followers of Dharma endure the hardship of life in the unforgiving Wastes. [...] █ Equity, fairness, and tolerance were principles that shaped the government and culture. NCR law explicitly prohibited prejudice on the basis of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, or religious belief--using verbiage which wisely withheld protection from religious beliefs which led to violence. In 2205, ghouls and mutants were formally granted the same rights as humans. Individuals from nearly any walk of life were accepted and integrated into the streamlined Shady Sands culture--which, incidentally, seemed to have lost interest in the humble teachings of Dharma.
i find this shit extremely interesting but i guess it didn't fit the pacing. i dont think i said this in as many words but he did end up rewriting 90% of the video. he did emphasize he was going for a certain biased "academic" voice but i can't say i found it particularly successful on that level
with his permission i'll post a personal edit of my essay on the site i'm launching later this year

⸻ ( emilia clarke, 32, cis woman, she/her ) — Look who it is! If you take a look at our database, you’ll find that MINA HARKER is a HISTORIAN that works in SECTOR 5. According to the file, they’re a mutant with the power of PORTAL GENERATION. That must be why they’re AMBITIOUS and CALLOUS. If you ask me, they remind me of the teeth which snap white as the moon and ask why must i bite? a hunger at war with a prayer to be consumed and needed, it’s hell on earth to be heavenly, leather clad fingers for shall these hands ne'er be clean? girlhood is like godhood; begging to be believed. They are affiliated with THE MUTANTS’ SOCIETY.

questionnaire :
how do they feel about living in sol city ? have they always lived there or did they travel from another settlement ?
mina has lived in sol city all her life , and knows nothing beyond the quiet life her parents wish her to lead of marriage and family . she hungers for more than this , mistrusting of this place and how perfect it feels . she has a habit of feeling unsafe at the best of times , a rebellious nature which sees her venturing further into the city , a hunger for truth and for knowledge which drives her .
do they trust the council’s leadership ? why or why not ?
no , but mina doesn't trust any organisation led up only by humankind . she keeps quiet about it , because she knows what's good for her — but she has never trusted them or believed that they work for what's in her , or anyone else's , best interests .
if they chose their sector and profession , why did they make that choice ? if they didn’t, why not ? were they happy with their assignment or not ?
mina has long craved the sort of work she does now , that of collecting knowledge and storing it away for later use . she chose her sector for these exact reasons , and is perfectly content in the work that she does .
what’s one object that they always keep on their person ?
a gold , heart shaped locket with a picture of her little sister .
(mutant only section)
what is your character’s ability ( or abilities ) ?
portal generation .
are they gen i or gen ii ?
gen ii .
what can your character do? what are their strengths ?
mina can open a hole in the universe connecting two non-adjacent locations . this may be done in a very neat manner , such as connecting two doorways in the universe , or it may be done very sloppily like breaking a rift in the space-time continuum . they may use dimensional manipulation to tear a tiny hole through two universes , use spatial manipulation to overlap two points in the universe or a wormhole connecting those two points . this is another form of teleportation . mina can create a portal that also allows her to teleport alongside people or direct their attacks .
this ability may come in the form of a "portable portal", which allows mina to make instant holes in anything the circle can be stuck to . offensively , mina can create vortexes to suck in objects .
what can’t they do ? what are their weaknesses ?
portal negation is a direct counter . portals may become unstable . portals may lead to a different yet dangerous location . has limits for the distance , number and / or size of the portals . mina may not always have the power to close the open portal , allowing others to also gain access . some portals require manual closing behind them . if left open , enemies may freely travel through and follow mina . portal redirection can divert travellers and appear somewhere not of their intention . if portals close while mina is part-way through , it can easily bisect them regardless of their indestructibility . if mina wishes to travel to a certain area that said place would be unavailable due to the portal being shut down. if there is an alternate reality entered from the portal , the enterer just has to ask to go back .
is there anything else you’d like to specify about them ?
coming soon .

From the fic title game, I gotta know what's going on with the one named "Atlanta." Who's going to Atlanta??
Haha nobody's going to Atlanta (well, except for the Corinthian in the Cereal Convention, but that's not what we're talking about here), it's actually a character named Atlanta!
That one is my yet-to-be-written fic in the Deadpool universe! I have no idea how much detail you actually want on this one, and I'm struggling to summarize it well, but... I'll do my best.
It starts out a few years before the events of the movie, a bit of a prequel slash angsty corruption arc (you'll see). The main character, Atlanta Santiago, is a historian who specializes in Greco-Roman myth systems. Her favorite myth is, of course, the myth of Atalanta, and she frequently jokes about missing an A (and yes, there will be a running bit of symbolism with the myth of Atalanta too, I can't help myself). She's also a part-time boxer with ties to a few other New York vigilantes, if you know what I mean...
She's in a bar when she encounters Francis Freeman - before he works in the mutant warehouse, before he's a mutate at all, he's just a charming phlebotomist living in NYC. They hit it off and end up dating for a few years, he's a gentle and caring partner, things are lovely, life is good.
And then he starts to go downhill: confusion, memory issues, a developing tremor in his hands. It turns out to be early-onset Huntington's disease, and a severe case at that. There's no known cure, he'll just keep deteriorating until he's gone. He has to quit his job, since his hands shake too much to insert an IV and he can't reliably make the calculations anyway. For a few months, things are rough.
Agent Smith appears in his apartment one day while Atlanta's out, and offers him the same chance at recovery he'll later give Wade: a treatment at the mutant warehouse, it'll save his life.. At first Francis refuses, but finally agrees to go to the warehouse. He leaves Atlanta a note, promising he'll return when things are better... but he never does. She, along with everyone else, assume he's just left to go discreetly end his life, and he left the note so she wouldn't have to discover it.
Fast forward two years. The warehouse needs more victims, and they end up kidnapping Atlanta for a treatment of her own. She runs into Francis... nothing like the man she used to know, now he's cruel and uncaring, doing exactly the sort of thing he abhorred in his prior life. He tries to sort things out and smooth things over, and explains that he couldn't let her know he was still alive because he didn't want the higher-ups at the warehouse to use her as leverage (because how else do you threaten a man who can't feel pain?). Atlanta is, justifiably, shocked and upset, torn between being grateful that he's still alive and being disgusted at the person he's become.
There's more to this, of course, but I don't want to give up all my secrets ;)

-
Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters
1407 Graymalkin Lane, Westchester County, New York.
You walked up the stone path to what was once a blossoming school. Students ran amok while the teachers kept a watchful eye on the young mutants.
But time had taken it’s toll on the place and the man who ran it. Last you heard, Charles Xavier was a bit of a lost cause these days. You went to knock on the door but before your fist could make contact with the wooden door, it opened, revealing a sickly looking Charles. It saddened you to see an old friend in such a state.
Loneliness and guilt plagued him.
The guilt of past actions haunted you both, it seemed.
“Hello y/n” he said. “I heard your thoughts as soon as you stepped out from the car. Please come in”.
“I thought your powers didn’t work with Hank’s cure’?” You inquired, stepping into the mansion.
“Ah, can’t seem to turn the mind completely off.” He stated, tapping his temple with his index finger.
Ever since Charles had erased Moira Mactaggert’s memories he has become a recluse. He didn’t care, he was depressed and angry. His true love didn’t even know his name. He had shut down the school, opting to be alone with the exception of a visit from old friends every now and then.
“I suppose you didn’t come here to reminisce on old times.” He stated rather than questioned.
Ah yes old times.
You worked with Moria to help keep Xavier’s mansion off the CIA and SHIELD’s radar. You and she had prevented many a sticky situation on the professors behalf.
And now you needed him to repay that favor.
“No, I didn’t come for reminiscing. Um.. I have a..problem with someone with a strong healing factor. I need them dead. Not gone, not injured, but dead. I’ve got cash.”
The professor scoffed. “Money..” he mumbled. “Who needs it.”
“Do you?“ you questioned.
“No, my dear. Money is no fun unless you’ve got someone to spend it on. Come on now.”
He said, motioning you to follow him downstairs.
“You’re not trying to kill Wolverine are you?” He joked.
“No, his brother Sabertooth, actually.” You said, deadpan.
The professor seemed a bit shocked at your confession.
“Always getting ourselves into sticky situations, aren’t we?”
“Yes.” You replied. “I wish Moria was here to help get me out of this one.”
Charles remained quiet as the two of you approached the weapons vault. Maybe you shouldn’t have brought her up.
The vault opened revealing weapons of all kinds.
Hoping he’d give you the biggest one, you were disappointed when the professor put a small dagger in your hands.
You looked at him with disbelief, he didn’t have to read your mind to tell that wasn’t what you were expecting.
“This blade is made from carbonadium.”
Your face scrunched into confusion.
“It is a radioactive metal that is vastly stronger than steel, but more malleable than adamantium. It can slow a healing factor to a stop.”
It was then and only then that you realized the challenge that laid out in front of you.
Victor was a brute. He was tough and mean. Animalistic would be a more fitting adjective. He was also impulsive and reckless when his judgement was clouded by revenge and anger. Meanwhile you were calculating, cautious, and able to keep your cool.
“Thank you, Charles.”
“Not a problem.” He said, closing the vault and walking you back upstairs.
“It’s a shame you have to live such a lie after what SHIELD did to you.”
“It’s not a complete lie..” you explained. “I’ve found something so pure and..right despite it all.”
The professor quirked a brow.
You couldn’t help but smile at the thought of Piotr.
“Yeah, I um-“
“Want to talk about it over tea?” Charles questioned.
“I would Charles, but that pure and good thing I found..doesn’t know I’m here and I’d like to keep it that way.”
“I understand, off you go then.” He said, walking you out the front door.
“Thanks again, Charles.”
He gave you a small wave and closed the door.
You looked at the dagger in your hand and took a deep breath.
Oh what had you gotten yourself into?
.
\ weeks later /
You let out a long sigh, it had been a long day of selling books, talking about books, talking about books about art history, hanging a few replica paintings in the bookshop, helping some students with projects. Just book stuff..No crime, no lies, no Victor.
You left the inventory and cash counting for tomorrow, Piotr was picking you up for dinner and you couldn’t wait. He had been working overtime for the past two weeks and you missed him dearly.
You stepped outside the door, enjoying the light breeze that swept through. Maybe you could convince Piotr could go for a walk after dinner. The warmer months made it great for post- dinner sunset watching.
You turned to lock the door. While doing so you heard heavy footsteps from someone walking up behind you, a cool shiver made its way down your spine.
“Did you miss me?”
-
Dun dun dun..a cliff hanger! Is it Piotr? Is it the professor? Is it Victor? Is it an old colleague from SHIELD? find out next week when chapter 15 is published. Love you all!
Note about tags- I had a note in my phone for everyones tags separated by the character/ series they wanted tagged for..but while trying to put this post in my tumblr drafts (after having too much wine) I’ve messed it up so if I’ve tagged you for the wrong character/series/ fandom let me know otherwise I’ll just keep tagging everyone lol. Doctor Who at 60: the show has always tapped into political issues – but never more so than in the 1970s
by Jamie Medhurst, Professor of Film and Media at Aberystwyth University
Doctor Who hit television screens at a key period in British television history. It launched on Saturday November 23, 1963, at 5.15pm, being somewhat overshadowed by the assassination of US president John F. Kennedy the previous day.
Set firmly within the BBC’s public service broadcasting ethos of informing, educating and entertaining, Doctor Who quickly became a mainstay of Saturday-evening viewing. By 1965, it was drawing in around 10 million viewers.
Throughout its history, Doctor Who has tapped into political, social and moral issues of the day – sometimes explicitly, other times more subtly. During the 1970s, when the Doctor was played by Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, there were a number of examples of this.
Doctor Who in the 1970s
The 1970s were a period of political and social divisions: relationships between the government the unions in the first part of the decade was strained, exemplified by the miners’ strikes of 1972 and 1974. The political consensus that had dominated since 1945 was under pressure with talk of a break-up of the UK in the form of Welsh and Scottish Assemblies.
In his cultural history of Doctor Who, Inside the Tardis, television historian James Chapman argued that the 1970s painted “an uncomfortably sinister projection of the sort of society that Britain might come”.
It was never clear if Doctor Who storylines during this time were set in the present or at some point in the future. The fact that one of the lead characters, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart of the United Nations Intelligence Task Force (UNIT), calls the prime minister “Madam” in a telephone conversation in one episode suggests the latter.
youtube
As for some of the more politically engaged stories, The Green Death (1973), or “the one with the giant maggots” as it is known by fans, certainly pulled no punches. Described by Chapman as an “eco disaster narrative”, it pitted corporate greed and capitalism against environmental activists (portrayed here as Welsh hippies) and their concerns for the planet.
In the episode, Global Chemicals, run by a faceless machine, is tipping waste from its petrochemical plant into a disused mine in the south Wales valleys (cue awful Welsh stereotypes). The green sludge not only kills people, but creates mutant maggots which also attack. As fears grew and the green movement gained momentum in the early 1970s, this story would have resonated with large parts of the audience.
When the Doctor visits the planet Peladon in The Curse of Peladon (1972), the planet is attempting to join the Galactic Federation. There are those on the planet who argue for joining, while opponents are just as vociferous, arguing that joining the Federation would destroy the old ways of the planet.
Sound familiar? This is the time that Britain was negotiating to join the European Economic Community, as it did in 1973. Interestingly, the serial was broadcast during the time of the 1972 miners’ strike (leading to many viewers missing later episodes due to power cuts).
The follow-up story, The Monster of Peladon (1974), is set against a backdrop of industrial strife and conflict involving miners.
Tom Baker’s Doctor
In what many consider to be one of the best classic serials, Genesis of the Daleks (1975) Tom Baker’s doctor continued the tradition of raising complex political, social and moral issues.
youtube
Sent back in time by the Time Lords to change the course of history, the Doctor at one point has an opportunity to destroy the mutations which form the “body” of the Dalek (inside their metal casing) and destroy the Dalek race forever. Holding two wires close to each other, about to create an explosion in the incubation room, he asks himself and his companions: “Have I that right?”
Having the ability to see the future, he says that future planets will become allies in fighting the evil of the Daleks. Had he the right to change the course of history? Given the symbolism used in the story (salutes, black outfits, references to a “pure” race) this was a clear reference to the rise of the Nazis.
The political allegories didn’t end in the 1970s. One of the most blatant can be seen in the 1988 serial, The Happiness Patrol. The main antagonist, Helen A (played by Sheila Hancock), a ruthless and tyrannical leader is said to be modelled on Conservative prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. The fact that Hancock appears to be impersonating Thatcher lends a certain degree of credence to this belief.
Anybody who argues that the revival of Doctor Who in 2005 saw a more political edge to the storylines need only look back over 60 years. Now that we can do this thanks to the BBC uploading more than 800 episodes onto iPlayer, it will become clear to all.
Doctor Who – especially during its Golden Age in the 1970s – has always been political.
