Decided to watch the new trigun anime, because i fucking loved trigun as a kid and oh my fucking god. Yall. I do not understand. I got half way thru the first episode and just turned it off. I decided to rewatch the original instead and its so much better already... why did they axe my giant gunslinger bimbo and replace her with a generic alcoholic old man? Smh.

Reasons why I chose the Redemption ending in Veilguard (part 2 re Lavellan) + The character height mystery of Solavellan in the game

Now I’m gonna explain the in character reasons why my Rook chose to reunite Solavellan.

First, I find the depiction of a romanced Lavellan in DAV curious. One thing I can’t figure out and can’t get out of my head due to OCD is the height difference of Solavellan.

I can’t figure out the height in the cc in Veilguard. When I chose ~+10% height for my female elf Rook, I thought that meant she was a little above average in height, so in reality I imagine she’s about 165cm/5’5? But when she came out of cc, she was freaking shorter than everyone except for the dwarfs 🤣 In the end I increased her height to ~+35%, and she’s still freaking shorter than even the elf companion Bellara. So how fucking tall is everyone??

The curious thing is, the default height for the default Elven Inquisitor is around +7% (can’t remember the exact number). When I did her cc, I thought surely the game would know her height especially since the height does not just sit at 0%. I still increased the height to ~+13% just to be sure.

However, with how Rook’s height turned out, I knew it was a mistake. In the final scene with Solas, she and everyone’s Lavellan seem so fucking small compared to Solas. It bugs me endlessly because in Inquisition they are almost the fucking same height! That’s a part of how I find their romance cute (and how I find the Lavellan/Cullen romance cute) is because even the Elven inquisitor is so tall and Solas is just a skinny hobo looking dude wearing a sweater but still has so much hobo rizz and breaks the Inquisitor’s heart into pieces (and Cullen is so much bigger than Lavellan it’s so cute too).

I think Solas is about 5’11 - 6ft in Inquisition, but mofo looks at the very least 6’2 in Veilguard and swole, and the Inquisitor is about 5’7 in Inquisition, but about 5’ in Veilguard 😭😭

I guess the lore reason for the surge in Solas’ height could be that he absorbs his power from the fade again so he had his second growth spurt, but I think making the Inquisitor so short is also a conscious choice. I think they wanted to show that solas is a god hence tall and swole, but not as tall or has hair as algarnan because he isn’t as vain.

Why the Inquisitor is so fucking short I think that’s how they see the solas romanced Lavellan honestly. It reflects a loud part of the Solavellan fandom in the devs’ eyes. She’s a nobody and he’s a god. She only knew him for a year and had 3 kisses with him but wasted 10 years obsessed with him. She cares only for him but he cares only for Mythal. lol.

When my Rook saw the Inquisitor in the Cafe, and she started to talk about Solas (I don’t like how she fangirls him but I feel like that’s the devs’ depiction of Solavellan girlies but yk we fangirl solas doesn’t mean Lavellan fangirls solas in-fucking-game too), my Rook honestly don’t think it’s healthy. However I’m here trying to save the world, I’m not gonna bother talking sense into this stupid inquisitor.

Also I want the most chance to succeed against solas, I dont know if solas is good for the Inquisitor, but I know the Inquisitor is good for solas. I’m hoping if they unite she might be able to help keep Solas in check a little? If she simps for Solas this hard, I might as well put them back together. I’m not doing anyone a service trying to dissuade her. I don’t know if their relationship is healthy but they might truly deserve each other lol.

Anyway Solas is Yassified and shined in this game, but the depiction of Lavellan is truly jarring and I honestly think that’s how DAV devs see Lavellan and us Solasmancers. I’m not even sure they see Solas with that much nuance he showed even in DAI base game. Unfortunately the narrative around Solas is also such a mess and no one in the dev team seems to be able to defend him in his glorious morally grey form.

Could we get hcs about how ky got yassified in strive? Like, who did this to the good christian boy /j?

Pfft, I guess that's a decent enough question. Although as someone who originally came into the series with Xrd, Ky's Strive design definitely felt like a hard step back into more 'masculine' traits than I was used to! To be honest, I still think he looks a little weirdly broad, but that's sorta how everyone looks in Strive, so not like it's too bizarre. Maybe he's just finally getting some food in him for once.

The fact that the whole Xrd series and onwards is set so close together makes any changes significantly funnier, like within a month and a half of adopting two daughters and thawing out his wife Ky decided to dive headfirst into his Hot Dad Era (although saying it aloud, maybe he did actually do it for Dizzy...?) I'm certainly not complaining, though it does very much feel like a sudden, drastic change for him wearing dark, skintight outfits with cleavage when we're so used to see him in clothes that were both almost always white and very layered and flowy. I wonder what made them decide to go in that direction? Sol certainly didn't have a change that drastic, so I can't say it was that they both switched. My semi-serious answer is either that Dizzy thought it was cute and/or Sin thought it was cool and Ky wanted to impress them.

Tbh I blame most of the characters looking so pretty in strive on the hair physics. I mean, come on. It's nuts. Everyone's so shiny and silky and it just makes me mad that I can't touch it. Even Axl got the fabulous hair treatment, and he's supposed to be the resident dumpster ferret
