LEE PACE // have you seen Dr BRAN ALDRIC MATTHEWS around the crash site? we’re trying to make sure they’re still alive after the crash! according to the manifesto THEY/HE is a 44 year old UNLABELLED MAN. i hear they’re known being a BIOCHEMIST. BRAN is also known to be PASSIONATE yet also STUBBORN at times. we have a couple questions for BRAN when we find THEM, we heard something about a secret they might have? such as HE WENT BACK TO UNI AND GRADUATED WITH A BA IN FINE ARTS!
STATS:
Full Name: Bran Aldric Matthews Nicknames: Doc, Al, Muffin (by one person who made the 'bran muffin' joke, and then by everyone) Birthdate: March, 6 Age: 44
Gender: doesn't care Pronouns: he/him Romantic Orientation: unlabelled (likes who he likes) Sexual Orientation: unlabelled (interested in people, regardless of gender) Overall Label: queer
Right or Left Handed: left handed Marks: one (1) piercing in each ear, tattoos (TBA)
Schooling: PhD in biochemistry, BA in fine arts Languages Spoken: English (native speaker), ASL, Spanish, French, Sindarin (Elvish)
PAST:
He grew up in the middle of nowhere, Oklahoma, to a family of farmers. When he was born, the cattle got sick and that was what got him into science. He went on to be the first person in his direct family line to graduate from University, let alone the first doctor.
To say Bran was born with bad luck would be both mean and accurate. If he were to drive, either car troubles or traffic would get in the way. Biking? Crash or be crashed into.
His stroke of good luck, however, came from a fellow scientist and silky hair butterflies. Being one of the older members of the team, Bran helped keep things on track, until things went sidewards.
PRESENT & SURVIVAL SKILLS:
After a few years of working with NASA and stockpiling vacation days, when his old teammate contacts him, extending an olive branch, he decides to bury the hatchet. Unfortunately, the hatchet seems to want to bury itself in him as the bad luck continues - the plane crashes. Of course, it does.
Standing at a solid 6"5 and having grown up on a farm, paired with regular kickboxing, Bran is strong enough to help with any heavy lifting, with stamina to spare. His farming background also makes them good with animals and cooking 'from the Earth' (aka he used to regularly camp w his dad and brothers for the sake of 'survival skills').
SOCIAL:
Bran grew up in a big, comfortable family, preferring his own company to other peoples’. Despite his height, he was the shortest of his brothers by mere centimetres but he made up for it by being the eldest. Earnest as he tried to be, friends were never his strong suit but once made, he will become fiercely protective over them. But that trust, once broken, isn't easy to repair.

Saw someone making a joke about how Odysseus confronting the suitors happens when he’s naked and no hate for the joke I get that a lot of people think public nudity is funny but like… that part of the story is really important to me.
This is a man that has been on a journey and fucked over and changed and played with by fate for years to the point where he is almost forced to strip his identity and rebuild it for survival. When he returns to his Home Land yes he is wearing a disguise but he was also the one raining king of Ithaca. No one recognized his face, his voice, the only one to truly recognize him was his neglected and dying dog. When he reveals his true self he literally has to strip himself bare before any one realizes.
The idea of the thing that kept you alive and kept you fighting being the same thing that makes it easier to strip your core beliefs and personality bare and rebuild yourself into something not even you can recognize in the end is really impactful for me.

literally so funny that the only thing anyone will ever remember about supernatual in like 10 years+ is the gay angel/hunter dynamic that the network didn't even want to make real. that's your legacy. you're the destiel show. that's all you'll ever be. outside your own little bubble, that's all anyone ever refers to you as. when people bring up supernatural, destiel is the only association they have. i don't know anyone who knows anything else about it. phenomenal.

The Batkids infect each other with a tendency to think of or hum a really goofy song when on patrol and ninety percent sure they're gonna see something out of their worst nightmares.
Jason, turning to Steph: "Are you... are you seriously fucking humming Stayin' Alive right now?"
Steph: "Bitch please I've been hearing you hum macarena."
Jason: "My thing works, your thing is tempting fate."
Steph: "Not if we need to do CPR."
Jason, groaning: "There you go again, tempting the fucking universe--"
Steph: "Being around you already doomed me. Did you see that?"
Jason, turning around fast, gun drawn: "See what? Oh shit--" *fires off shots while Steph throws a few Batarangs* "--goddamn it, we missed--"
*something fast moves behind them in the dark*
Steph and Jason: *humming Stayin' Alive*

Thinking about how Hermes intentionally wasted Percy and Annabeths time in the casino hoping to change Lukes’ fate. And how everything Hermes has done since finding out about Lukes future will be in service of delaying/changing his fate. He said Poseidon warned him that no matter how much he tried to help, he would just make things worse. Yet he is still trying to help Luke. Still trying to make things right. But Luke has already chosen his path. Pure Greek tragedy

it's so great that in greek tragedy there are only three paradigms for a woman leaving her house (her wedding, her funeral, and maenadic rites) and they're all kind of the same thing also
#this is very much entirely in the realm of the cultural imaginary#in real life ancient greek women (of all classes) did indeed leave their houses for a wide variety of reasons apart from these#but tragedy doesn't acknowledge them and instead suggests a world in which these are the only three legitimate reasons a woman leaves home#and thus tries to understand everything else in terms of these three paradigms#mine#reading

CENSUS OF SURVIVORS - TASK #2
[ENT. INTERVIEW AND DR MATTHEWS]
INTERVIEWER: So, [pauses and smiles]
DR MATTHEWS: So.
INTERVIEWER: Right, well, let's begin. Where are you from and where did you live prior to the crash?
DR MATTHEWS: I'm from Chikasha, Oklahoma, but I('ve) been living in- uh, sorry, I was living in San Jose, before [gestures vaguely] all this.
INTERVIEWER: 'Course, of course. Would you say you have an accent from one of those locations?
DR MATTHEWS: Well, [chuckles, awkward] I wouldn't say I have an accent but other people have said that I do.
INTERVIEWER: Do you have any distinctive scars, tattoos, or marks?
DR MATTHEWS: Oh, boy- [laughs]
INTERVIEWER: I take there's a story there?
DR MATTHEWS: I was a teenager in the 70s - prime punk era, y'know? - and everyone was mad at the world and then Reagan was president so that didn't really help. The couple of tattoos I have were from my punk times-
INTERVIEWER: Not a fan of the punk style anymore?
DR MATTHEWS: More like, I couldn't get a job with it.
INTERVIEWER: Right.
DR MATTHEWS: Yeah. Er, there was the anarchist 'A' on my left rib and a pink triangle with green carnations, pansies and lavender flowers on my right upper arm, plus a few stick and pokes, here and there. My scars were from, technically speaking, after all that. Knife scars on my shoulder blade, my forearms and a stab wound in left thigh. All from one night.
INTERVIEWER: I don't whether to be impressed or concerned. [smiles and looks back at questions] So, were you flying with anyone?
DR MATTHEWS: yes, but I haven't found them yet- [pauses] They might be with the other side of the plane.
INTERVIEWER: I'm sorry. I know everyone wants out of this place but do you believe rescue is possible at this point?
DR MATTHEWS: [tired] Honestly? No. They should have found us by now, that they haven't means they can't - that's not to say they're gonna stop trying but if they haven't found us yet, I don't think they will.
INTERVIEWER: Respectfully, I hope you're wrong.
DR MATTHEWS: So do I.
INTERVIEWER: Alright, gut check: do you expect people to act in their own self-interest or in the interest of others?
DR MATTHEWS: Both. You get to know people a li'l and you can tell which way they lean. Most people, they'll try and save themselves first. You ever seen people running out of a crowded mall? They think they're in danger and they'll leave kids behind, push people over, trample them, just to get to the doors. Most people only ever think about saving their own skin.
INTERVIEWER: Grim.
DR MATTHEWS: It is.
INTERVIEWS: Last question, you mentioned a fight earlier - do you prefer fighting with your fists or would you rather use diplomacy?
DR MATTHEWS: [chuckles] Depends. If it's something small, I'd rather talk it out before things escalate too far. Sometimes, though, [rolls his shoulders and smiles, calm] people need a smack. If someone argues with me in a store, I can handle it but if someone throws around slurs and expects me stay civil, they have another thing coming.
INTERVIEWER: [mildly unnerved, smiles] Right- well, that's the end on the census. Thank you for answering.
[EXIT DR MATTHEWS]
