Oya CC! Thank you for the Satan drabble! I knew you will write it at some point so I didn't mind the delay, and it came out perfectly, I love it! I also love the answer about writing through multiple characters. It has been what I have been doing in the fic, however I always find myself wanting it to be as realistic as possible regarding dialogue and interactions with MC. I'll look for a way for it to be more easy... Thank you for that little piece with Barb and my favorite tea, I didn't expect it at all and found it delightful ♥

Reading some old pop quizzes I find that the really first ones are... Strange. Like in the angel ones, where Michael gave them all bracelets that purify the heart or whatnot, Lucifer pushed MC at the bed? I never read that kind of interaction on the og or nb storyline. Was a real turnoff to be honest. Assuming that the interaction happened after season 1... Is there a pop quiz you really enjoyed? Personally, from everything I read so far, pearl was the best, I enjoyed it so much purely from all the different things that went on and the little dates with each of the characters. You had so many things sent to you, how about a slice of local goods from here? If you really want I can send holy oil _🐆

Ah, I'm glad you liked the drabble! I felt bad about how long it took me to get to it, but I appreciate your patience!!

Yeah, sorry, I know you weren't asking for writing advice, but I tend to just jump right into that lol. Personally I have thoughts about how realistic things really need to be in a fictional story, but let's not get into that or I'll be writing another essay about it. And oh, yeah I just wrote that little snippet 'cause I thought it'd be an easier way to show what I was talking about! I'm glad you liked it~ I tend to default to Barb and since you had just told me your favorite tea flavor, I was like perfect!

I honestly haven't read most of the old OG pop quizzes. I will grind Lonely Devil events for specific cards, but for the most part, I haven't bothered reading them??? It's usually enough for me to try to keep up with the events we got going on!

However, I definitely think they were trying to make Lucifer more aggressive in his pursuit of a sexual relationship with MC in the beginning. I think that's part of why I hated him at first. But then they realized people didn't like it and toned him down in subsequent seasons. So I'm not too surprised an older pop quiz story had him still like that.

I really liked the vampire event in NB. I also really liked the one called A Star for You in the OG. It was the first one they did with spotlights and it was Satan focused. I just thought it was really cute. I also really liked The Great Yokai Parade. I'll have to play the pearl one I think I did, but I don't remember it very well... I was also fond of the TTWF event, I thought it was cute even with some of those outfits lol.

Most of the time, I like the premise of the events. They'll start with interesting ideas, but then they always get resolved in kind of boring ways. They're good at the set up, but not as good at the ending.

And oh I am happy to receive all such things! Holy oil does sound interesting... not sure what I'd do with it though lol.

Name: Mikoto ( 美命 ) Zelia Moreira Date

Personality: 

Mikoto has lost the ability to feel fear. As such, she isn’t one to turn down things that are considered dangerous nor scary. She’d stare at it and say ‘hold my beer.’ Which can be a boon and a curse since she commonly chooses the most straight forward path. Which is often violence. However despite this, she tends not to hold grudges and forgives past transgressions...even if it was her that incited it. This plus her carelessness can be a headache to her coworkers.

Background:

You can only play the cards you’re dealt and Mikoto grew up knowing this. She was teased as a child for an array of things. From her mother’s job to mixing up languages to even her skin tone. While she didn’t like the heckling, what else could she do? Her mother said for her to pick herself up and walk on. It was this steady demeanor that Mikoto looked up to and after her father left, her mother was all that she had. If the world was their enemy, then they’d brave it together. 

Because of this, they carved out a place for themselves. Their circle was small but loved. Their wills would not be broken. So Mikoto went about her life. Despite her confidence, companionship around her age is still something she desired. So she tried with kids at school and in her neighborhood. And these kids took advantage of her lack of ‘common knowledge’ to get her in trouble or make her look foolish. Mikoto did catch on and had gotten her own revenge on them. It became a back and forth…until a child suggested a more…supernatural sort of joke. 

There was an inauspicious night coming up and so it was likely a night for Hyakki Yagyo, the Night Parade of 100 Demons. Not that the children actually believed it but it was an excuse to prank Mikoto. Goading her by questioning her bravery, she snuck out to retrieve a hairpin that had been left in a small shrine in a local forest. Arriving at the shrine, Mikoto was surprised by the children wearing masks or overgrown clothing to scare her. They got their scare and laughs but Mikoto could hear more of a racket, seeming coming towards them. Thinking this was her trying to get back at them, all the kids but one didn’t listen. It grew louder and louder until lanterns could be seen. Which illuminated all sorts of oni and yokai. It frightened the children and their cries also alerted the creatures of their presence. 

Mikoto had scattered in a direction separate from most of the kids. She heard…not great things and thought of where she might be able to be safe. She remembered the shrine should be a safe place and doubled back, coming across one of the kids–the one that had heeded her warning–and taking them back with her. The shrine was the size of a children’s playhouse. It would be a tight squeeze but they could manage it. Mikoto let the girl go first but before she could go in, she noticed the lights again. She wouldn’t be able to cram in before any yokai saw them and came for them both. So Mikoto shut the door behind her, clutching the hairpin, which had been her mother’s that she took to show off.

The girl fainted from the shock and exhaustion. She seemed to be the only one of the children that had come out from that night. Most of the children were found dead. Mikoto wasn’t found until months later, wandering at night barefooted in the snow. There was something instinctively different about Mikoto. Most couldn’t place it in the first few days but it eventually was settled as ‘feral.’ There was a wildness in her eyes that couldn’t subside. Her presence and attitude scared just about everyone around her. 

Mikoto doesn’t speak much about what occurred and her feelings about it are everywhere. What she has disclosed was that she has lived longer than what most believe. She also describes herself as what happens ‘when you withstand the abyss looking back at you.’ She eventually came to YDA because they do something that she is able to do. So why not work there?

Halloween Prank Problems (Yet another Halloween themed event. MC has a weird dream about the Demon Bros. and the Triworlds gang engaging in a prank war);

Valentine's Day Canceled?! + A Weird White Day (V-Day themed events. The gang tries to calm down angry and heartbroken spirits so they can celebrate the holidays in peace with MC);

Happy⭐Holidays! (Christmas themed. RAD's decorating event and Diavolo's wellbeing are in jeopardy as an ancient evil threatens to ruin the holidays);

Absolute Zero (Carnival/Mardi Gras themed. MC becomes the representant of a major winter event, all the while trying to solve a huge crisis of dying crops);

Revolution of the Stained Glass Flower (Band themed. When ancient demonic treasures are unearthed, a powerful reality-bending relic is discovered).

Yōkais in Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest game in the MH franchise, giving us a more oriental and folkloric twist to it. Throughout the story, we must hunt many monsters that show clear inspiration from Yōkais and Japanese myths.

Yōkai (妖怪, “strange apparition”) are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore. The word yōkai is composed of two kanji characters which both mean “suspicious and doubtful”

To start, the Monster Rampage event is based on the "Hyakki Yakō”, a Japanese myth also known as “Night Parade of One Hundred Demons” (Which is also mentioned in JJK). The art showing us the catastrophic event shows clear inspiration from the original representations of the myth.

The list of the monsters is: Tetranadon (Kappa), Aknosom, (Kasa-obake), the Great Izuchi (Kama-Itachi), Goss Harag (Namahage), Bishaten (Tengu), Somnacanth (Ningyo) and Rakna-Kadaki (Jorogumo).

I’m going to talk about some of them and explain a little more about their inspiration.

Tetranadon: One of my favorite monsters in MHR. The Tetranadon was based on kappa, one of the most common yokai in Japanese folklore, with many legends and stories that have spread throughout the country. A kappa is a green creature that is often depicted as a mix between a young boy and a turtle. While Tetranadon’s design obviously does not resemble a young boy, you can notice its turtle heritage. Another renowned characteristic of kappa is the dish-shaped depression on top of their head, which can be seen on Tetranadon’s head as well, giving it a slightly cuter look than your average Monster Hunter creature.

Aknosom: The Aknosom is a fiery and majestic bird that soars across the skies surrounding Kamura Village. It resembles a crane with a large folding crest. This monster possesses the ability to breathe fire, a power that it uses to inflict burns upon hunters unlucky enough to cross its path and use its wings to perform aerial attacks or escape from battle. The Aknosom was designed as a combination between a crane and Kasa-obake, a well-known yokai that is shaped like an umbrella. Kasa-obake have appeared in other video games such as Nioh, Yo-kai Watch 2 and Pocky & Rocky as well.

Goss Harag: The Goss Harag is a terrifying and formidable beast that roams cold desolate areas. The Goss Harag is a large hairy monster with massive claws and eyes that glare bright yellow. It can use its frosty breath to create large ice blades on its arms. When the Goss Harag is angered it turns a bright red and becomes even more deadly. Namahage is a beast that appears at a traditional festival in certain areas of Akita Prefecture in Japan. At this event, men dressed as demon-like beings in straw capes with either red or blue ogre masks and (fake) knives go door-to-door to frighten children that have misbehaved.

She really very likes Anime, in the human world sometimes she also often cosplays and attends several events cosplay that are held in the human world. But in Devildom she tries not to talk too much about anime or games, except with Leviathan.

If in the human world she lives with her father and mother, Anne has twin sister and Anne is the last one, but her twin sister doesn't want to be a old sister, so Anne takes the position of old sister.

So this is the cultural reference I most wanted to talk about, since Asmo's costume is throwing off everyone. Asmo is actually not a yokai in the technical sense. He is actually in reference to a Japanese folk tale called "Tsuru no Ongaeshi", or "the Crane's Return of a Favor", more specifically, the version called "Tsuru Nyōbō", or "the Crane Wife".

To summarize the story, a man finds a crane injured by an arrow. After tending to her wounds and setting her free, he returns home to find a beautiful and mysterious woman who tells him she's his bride. When the man tells her he cannot support her, she tells him not to worry, cooking him rice out of a bag that never depleted. She asks him for a weaving room, warning him to never look inside when she worked before going in there to work for seven days. She comes out with beautiful cloth, which sells for a high price, bringing wealth to the man. However, his curiosity got the better of him and he enters the weaving room, only to discover the crane from before plucking out her feathers to weave into cloth. Upon learning that he discovered the truth, she tells him that she wanted to repay his kindness, but now that he knew, she could no longer stay. She gifts him the cloth as a final memento of her before flying away.

Considering Asmo's greatest desire is to be loved, it's no wonder he chose this folktale, which tells of a crane who wanted to show her gratitude and love. It truly fits a lot of Asmo's character.
