ADIPOCERE —ft. kujou sara / drabble. brainrot.
kujou sara with an obnoxious kitsune!reader that teaches her to be a little more selfish, to live instead of endlessly carrying out missions like a programmed dog.
the brain worms hath caught up to me and i love this dynamic. like, you're the coffee intern of the shrine, meaning yae just sends you out to the city every once in a while to do miscellaneous tasks. this time yae has requested you to get an order of fried tofu noodles though your eyes catch a peek of someone's menu, and suddenly your cravings get the better of you.
hijinks ensue, you've just played into someone's fantasy about being a great yokai guardian of the grand narukami shrine, and get some offerings (mora! yippie!) out of it. you order both grilled unagi fillet and yaes fried tofu noodles.
your schemes continue until a certain general catches wind of a scammer running through the streets of inazuma city, parading around and acting as a great yokai guardian. it's safe to say she wouldn't have trouble finding out who the scammer in question was; shrine maidens aren't commonly found in a market.
though, catching this thief is proving quite the challenge. everytime she heads your way—in your vicinity—you break into a sprint. even if your scams have reached it's end, you still haven't compensated the victims, so she's still looking for you.
months pass, the victims in question have received enveloped mora in the mouth of a fox. is this your way of compensating? she ponders.
there hasn't been any other kitsune in the city other than yae miko, and there haven't been any suspicious looking people at the tailor requesting a shrine maidens outfit.
perhaps the next time she pays a visit to the grand narukami shrine, she'll ask about you.
++ i think this is how I'd like it to go, believe it or not, my first draft on this idea (about 5ish months ago?) had reader being caught immediately and trying to waffle her way out of questioning (i couldn't write past it, there's no way kujou sara wouldn't be able to stop the conversation from derailing) but there's something abt kujou sara seeking you out, something SHE would like to do. like... she's asking yae miko about the shogun and her wellbeing, yae's responses are obviously halfhearted... that is until kujou sara is about to bring the conversation to an end. she remembers that scammer from a while back, and asks about it. about you. THEN yae's tuned in like "why does the general wanna know abt some random shrine maiden?" and then kujou sara spills the beans......, now u have not only been demoted to the statue scrubber, you have immense calf pain from walking up and down the shrine and to the forest.
and then reader holds a grudge against kujou sara...., so the next time u see her, instead of running you scold her for snitching.
then kujou sara stands her ground, saying that you shouldn't have been scamming people in the first place.... and then well. I'll write abt that later
(didn't know where to say this but i think the reason reader would run is because of the way yae miko talks about her. "a general with a stick up her ass." that'd make you think she's the no nonsense, cold and hard type. and noone doesnt exactly wanna get sent to prison, so..... ur only option is to run and never look back ig??!)

Aoyama Yasutsugu
The Promised Bride.
Tumblr media
The first son of the Aoyama Clan and holder of the Kitsune's Mark. Sacred in blood, vow and acceptance to his role of being a Yokai's bride.
Yasutsugu was raised with the tales of their clan's promise to the Kitsune that fought alongside their people in the Great Yokai War. A vocal vow and finalised in am ancestors blood pact an agreement that the Kitsune was to take in one of their first born after the War's end. As great as the Yokai was, there is always an ache he wished to ride of, a loneliness pandemic in his own chest. The pact was made for the Aoyama to aid in relinquishing the loneliness with companionship. Thus, Yasutsugu arrival on Earth, was the day his body was marked in the Kitsune's will-o-wisp marking.
The moment he was able to walk without aid, Yasutsugu was taught to learn the ways of becoming the best 'Wife' of the Kitsune. Such as learning seasonal poetry, worldly literacy, ceremonial dances, tea brewing, household chores and about the history of the Great Yokai war itself. He was given the education of a lifetime, learning from all past surviving Wives and Chosen humans that served the Kitsune in battle. Such positions were granted yokai abilities limiting to a longer lifespan to continue on the tales of their agreement. Amongst these elder women, he learned their tales of self care, how to tend to the Kitsune's great needs and how to please him with his mannerisms alone. How to dress, flirt and welcome the embrace of man. How to tease, give advice and speak of his Husband as the great god he is. He learned how to sew meaning through thread, how to etch pictures of his future lover within ink, how to dance to remove all impurities in a room to allow his husband to rest well in slumber.
With the Elder Men, that fought alongside him with blade and spear - Yasutsugu was given advice and lessons on how to fight besides his beloved. How to read the battlefield, how to mend defences, build storage out of the eye, to mend weaponry and make poisons for all manners of ailments. Strategy for the world to come at their doors with fire was always pushed into his mind and with it, the power and intelligence of warfare to protect those they cherished etched into his bones.
Lastly was weaponry classes, by both Elder groups, he learned various methods of combat from small swords, small blades, sickles to chains, swords, katanas and yari. Physical weaponry was split with lessons of the Divine and Spiritual, meditation, qi energy and purification rituals, talisman creation and barrier creation.
In a time where their Clan halls were to reopen to the public, this promise had begun and Yasutsugu was passed onto the Yokai parade at the ripe age of 18, and though Yasutsugu remembers his training like it was yesterday, he gets surprised sometimes when he gets reminded that it was nearly fifty years ago when he was sent to this Yokai's embrace. Though his skin is youthful and his bones do not creak - he is of an old generation.
A gift to that of the bloodline of the Aoyama, that allows them to be youthful, as they accept their marriage to the Great Kitsune. ( @mangher 's Takahiro )
It is often, when Yasutsugu is feeling mischievous, he'll leave Takahiro's mountain to play tricks upon his Clan. Welcoming new clan members with his youthful appearance and enjoying the trick being lifted with his Clan Heads spilling the beans upon who he really is. He lingers like a Ghost on some Summer Nights, but he will always return upon the Fourth day, to return to his Lovers arms.

AITA for spiriting away a guy 55 years ago, causing him to realize he’s gay and abandon his wife and child to date my ex-boss?
(Apologies if I get yokai lore wrong, its a weird blend of canon material and stuff from actual Japanese legends, with some creative liberties)
I (??M) used to work with Lord N (200ish?M) and I was among those who participated in his Night Parade of 100 Demons. We go out into the streets at night and cause a pandemonium, it’s great fun. My role is the headless horseman with the headless horse. Whenever a human gazes upon me, they get taken away to our world.
It just so happens that about 55 years ago, a man, A, (~30 at the time, M) gazed upon the Night Parade, so naturally I spirited him away. Unbeknownst to me, he had a wife and daughter at home, and it would be a while before A got to see them again.
Rather than going insane upon entering our world, A quite enjoyed being there. He even made friends with lord N and was able to negotiate his own freedom.
His freedom didn’t last long, however, as soon he returned to spend the rest of his remaining days with Lord N.
Fast forward fifty five years. A’s daughter now has a grandson, and that grandson wants to “avenge his family’s name” or something. At first he blamed Lord N for the disappearance of A, but has since learned that it was in fact I who took A away. Honestly, I don’t think I was doing anything wrong. I was just playing by the rules of the Night Parade, it’s not my fault A didn’t know them.
But apparently me fulfilling my duty in the Night Parade caused A’s family to fall apart, and now his descendant wants me… well not “dead”, I’m already dead. Dead twice, I suppose.
I no longer work for N anyways. I was sorta sent to hell’s hell after trying to Death Note Lord E(70 M) a few years ago, so I couldn’t care less about what N’s deal is.
This probably isn’t even making sense to your feeble human brains, is it?
Whatever.
AITA?

Oya CC! Thank you for the Satan drabble! I knew you will write it at some point so I didn't mind the delay, and it came out perfectly, I love it! I also love the answer about writing through multiple characters. It has been what I have been doing in the fic, however I always find myself wanting it to be as realistic as possible regarding dialogue and interactions with MC. I'll look for a way for it to be more easy... Thank you for that little piece with Barb and my favorite tea, I didn't expect it at all and found it delightful ♥
Reading some old pop quizzes I find that the really first ones are... Strange. Like in the angel ones, where Michael gave them all bracelets that purify the heart or whatnot, Lucifer pushed MC at the bed? I never read that kind of interaction on the og or nb storyline. Was a real turnoff to be honest. Assuming that the interaction happened after season 1... Is there a pop quiz you really enjoyed? Personally, from everything I read so far, pearl was the best, I enjoyed it so much purely from all the different things that went on and the little dates with each of the characters. You had so many things sent to you, how about a slice of local goods from here? If you really want I can send holy oil _🐆
Hi there, 🐆 anon!
Ah, I'm glad you liked the drabble! I felt bad about how long it took me to get to it, but I appreciate your patience!!
Yeah, sorry, I know you weren't asking for writing advice, but I tend to just jump right into that lol. Personally I have thoughts about how realistic things really need to be in a fictional story, but let's not get into that or I'll be writing another essay about it. And oh, yeah I just wrote that little snippet 'cause I thought it'd be an easier way to show what I was talking about! I'm glad you liked it~ I tend to default to Barb and since you had just told me your favorite tea flavor, I was like perfect!
I honestly haven't read most of the old OG pop quizzes. I will grind Lonely Devil events for specific cards, but for the most part, I haven't bothered reading them??? It's usually enough for me to try to keep up with the events we got going on!
However, I definitely think they were trying to make Lucifer more aggressive in his pursuit of a sexual relationship with MC in the beginning. I think that's part of why I hated him at first. But then they realized people didn't like it and toned him down in subsequent seasons. So I'm not too surprised an older pop quiz story had him still like that.
I really liked the vampire event in NB. I also really liked the one called A Star for You in the OG. It was the first one they did with spotlights and it was Satan focused. I just thought it was really cute. I also really liked The Great Yokai Parade. I'll have to play the pearl one I think I did, but I don't remember it very well... I was also fond of the TTWF event, I thought it was cute even with some of those outfits lol.
Most of the time, I like the premise of the events. They'll start with interesting ideas, but then they always get resolved in kind of boring ways. They're good at the set up, but not as good at the ending.
And oh I am happy to receive all such things! Holy oil does sound interesting... not sure what I'd do with it though lol.

[AngelAi] Great! I'll come soon.
[AngelAi] BTW, do you have The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons: A Field Guide to Japanese Yokai, B?
B and Alex receive a few messages one day.
[AngelAi] Do you girls know how to make clothes?
[AngelAi] I was thinking I could come over and read with B, but then I thought that maybe I could bring Cassie along, and after we read, we could look at potential outfits for her.
[AngelAi] Formal events are part of what you do, right?
The pair answer, though it seems B's responses are faster than Alex's.
[SweetBee] Alex does
[SweetBee] My fingers don't quite handle things like her's do
[Just-Alex] Formal events are a thing, yeah.
[Just-Alex] Usually it's something I order but I can make/alter stuff.
[SweetBee] Reading does sound fun. My tower is like a big reading room
[Just-Alex] B does have her own closet in there too.
[SweetBee] If you're coming by lmk when I can meet you at the landing pad

The Wulf's Eye: RP Journal #141 | Many Worlds
Tumblr media
Pub Crawl Gods where do I start? The event I can reach far back about is the Pub Crawl that Hiroyuki and I were invited to. They wanted us stationed at Camp Overlook, which brought on a lot of nostalgia. NightRaid, in its earliest days, tended to take a lot of jobs in small corners of Eozrea. Hiroyuki and I had the idea of making concoctions of sake brews put together after chatting with a good handful of buddies beyond the veil. Sake harmless to mortals buuuut.. come with effects that, say, briefly turn you into a sandal orrr.. summon forth a blizzard every time you speak or.. temporarily lose your face. No one dies, obviously, and they wore off but people seemed to enjoy the introduction to yokai shenanigans at the pub crawl.
Okami Dojo Quite enjoying the growing amount of students giving a try at the sword. Of course, I started our session with a drill review on suburi. This time we taught them about footwork and movement, which builds off the foundation of the sword.. much of my observation results in pondering introductions for the next class. I feel it's too soon to bring session three's original lesson plans, considering the majority are completely and utterly fresh at the sword compared to my previous class having a handful of partially practiced swordsmen. That and the majority seem rather shy about sparring... I'll be sure to change that. Much of learning the sword stems from lessons gained out of a spar. The wild spirit style will be breathed into these students eventually. For now, I'll plot out a proper session three.
Village in Time I don't even know how to go about explaining this portion, but to preface this as a reminder of time magic.. I don't know much of it. Bits and pieces of it, sure.. like within the Moon Kingdom, I've experienced it and other strange spells. Rakushi dropped this investigation on us about a village where a supposed mage watches over from a tower, yet there is a curfew where vicious void creatures attack so all must return home. The fluffy creature.. a familiar that insisted on being our guide, also warned we need to get the hell out by curfew. While we spoke to some locals, Rakushi and I approached the stall of a girl selling. I assume her mother's jewelry? She was less than enthusiastic until I insisted on buying her own jewelry, only to discover afterward that it had disappeared on me. I swear I didn't drop it. I have my theories, like.. the mage being dead, considering the fluffy creature stated she hadn't seen him in ONE HUNDRED YEARS unless he's immortal or something. Plus, some phrases to even access the tower he is in. I think he's locked in time, same with the rest of the villagers.. on some repeat. Surely that's why the jewelry disappeared? We're going to return and investigate again.
Hyakki Yagyo Another year of the parade upon us, this time new faces AND returning faces in Kugane. I'm surprised the Sekiseigumi entrusted us with yet another year, it helps we got a good word from the Asai and Muika clan after our assistance with the whole.. rivalry and bakufu crap. Of course, big brother set his shiki papers throughout town as usual. Volunteered onmyoji strolled throughout amongst their clan members, too. I think their good word helped us keep at it-- they get rowdy you see. Especially when they're too comfortable to bother going to the ones taking place in Yanxia. It was a great time all around, but I don't know if I would peel off my face again. Of course following the parade, ironically, was the opening of the bathhouse where we invite spirits yokai, mortals and it went well.. it was busier than the first opening too. Many seemed comfortably at home, and the new elixirs were a hit. I'm glad we got a tengu treatment request, thanks to Faern.
That was a lot to catch up on. My fingers are sore, so I'll be stopping.

See, I always took vampires AS fae - a more explicitly malicious kind of being, but ultimately of the broader, blurry category of "non-human sentient supernatural with magical powers, strange diets and obscure banes that beleaguer humanity". I just understood their rule-bound-ness being the same of strange rules that one does when encountering a Nurikabe (you bow, step aside, and let him pass).
I don't wanna rain on the parade - this is a fantastic bit of lore - but fae (like yokai, or haints, the old-english word goblin) is a broader and less definite term that just means "spookily dookily being that's not human".
That said - this is a great analysis, and any fantasy setting that would play with this would be happy to have it!
Stuck on the idea of vampires as a kind of reverse fae, or like someone's twisted, perverse attempt at moulding humans into fae.
They're repelled by liminal spaces.
A vampire could never enter fairyland, not just because they'd never be welcomed, but because most of the usual entry-ways are naturally barred to them.
They can't cross running water. They can't be seen in mirrors. They will wait forever at a crossroads, unable to pick a direction to go in. They can't even step over a thresh-hold unless there is absolutely no ambiguity about whether they are welcome inside.
They crave human blood, iron and salt, but are repelled by herbs and plants. They are supernaturally prevented from harming you unless the rules of hospitality have been invoked.
A fairy may replace your newborn child with something unnatural and ever-hungry. A vampire will do the same, but with your grandmother's corpse.
The fae are typically associated, even in stories where they're the bad guys, with flourishing and purity. Vampires, even in stories where they're the good guys, are typically associated with decay and corruption.
The fae turn ancient human burial mounds into fancy halls for their courts. Vampires take ancient human castles and let them grow mildewed and cobwebbed, exchanging the beds for coffins, turning them into burial places.
Fae don't tend to live among humans, but can generally pass for them with relative ease if they so choose. Vampires nearly always live among humans, but tend to find not revealing themselves a huge struggle.
I can't think of many stories I've read where fae and vampires even exist in the same universe, let alone ones where they actively interact. I feel like their enmity is almost more inevitable than that between vampires and werewolves, however.
The rivalry between vampires and werewolves is, essentially, the rivalry between two apex predator species who share a territory. (Even in stories where the werewolves aren't actually hunting humans.)
The vampires hate the werewolves because the werewolves interfere with their access to prey. The werewolves hate the vampires either because they consider themselves aligned with humans (the prey species), or because they are also predators and the vampires are competing with them.
By comparison, I think there's some story potential in the fae finding something genuinely creepy and uncanny valley about vampires.
They're immortal, like them, but also dead. They can be beautiful, like them, but that beauty is something they actively require humans to sustain. They like to inhabit beautiful and ancient ex-human dwellings, like them, but they actively work to make those places dark, damp and empty.
Fairies who are unflappable in the face of all sorts of Otherworldly monsters, can look an eldritch horror in the eye(s) without blinking, and have never been phased yet by any human, but will recoil from even the weakest vampire.
Vampires who hate fairies just as much, but in a more envious way. The way that the creature for whom immortality is a curse is bound to hate the creatures for whom immortality is an eternity of sunlight and laughter.
Maybe their touches burn each other. Maybe vampires can't stand physical contact with anything so alive and vital. Maybe immortal fairies become ill from too much exposure to the undead.
Maybe they fight over the human population when their territories overlap. The fairy need for servants and people to make deals with, competing with the vampire need for thralls and blood to drink.
Just… fairies and vampires. We need more stories about them interacting.

So this is the cultural reference I most wanted to talk about, since Asmo's costume is throwing off everyone. Asmo is actually not a yokai in the technical sense. He is actually in reference to a Japanese folk tale called "Tsuru no Ongaeshi", or "the Crane's Return of a Favor", more specifically, the version called "Tsuru Nyōbō", or "the Crane Wife".
To summarize the story, a man finds a crane injured by an arrow. After tending to her wounds and setting her free, he returns home to find a beautiful and mysterious woman who tells him she's his bride. When the man tells her he cannot support her, she tells him not to worry, cooking him rice out of a bag that never depleted. She asks him for a weaving room, warning him to never look inside when she worked before going in there to work for seven days. She comes out with beautiful cloth, which sells for a high price, bringing wealth to the man. However, his curiosity got the better of him and he enters the weaving room, only to discover the crane from before plucking out her feathers to weave into cloth. Upon learning that he discovered the truth, she tells him that she wanted to repay his kindness, but now that he knew, she could no longer stay. She gifts him the cloth as a final memento of her before flying away.
Considering Asmo's greatest desire is to be loved, it's no wonder he chose this folktale, which tells of a crane who wanted to show her gratitude and love. It truly fits a lot of Asmo's character.
