here’s a bird’s eye view of my comic Eyan Eternal

For people who don't know what it is. Bc I think some of you might find it's right up your alley. Well this is an updated one anyway. I do actually have a volume of this out in print right now, but the low def, basic version is online and complete, and tbh, I just want people to read it. I took almost two years to complete this and quite literally poured every waking moment (after work and when I wasn’t fixing stuff in my house) into this to try and finish it.

*Jonathan Frakes asks you things meme voice* have you ever wondered what you’d find if you REALLY lived forever?

Well, meet Eyan, an immortal vampire.

He’s slowly finding out the answer to that question...

...And it appears to be unbearable isolation.

Eons into the distant future, when most stars have faded in the night sky and the cosmic event horizon has confined any remaining beings to an isolated pocket of the universe, Eyan roams interstellar space in a repurposed generation ship in search of anything that could be considered alive/sentient in the way he is.

So far, he’s out of luck.

That is until he runs into an unexpected former rival on a remote planet - Zero, a sentient android he never expected to be the only other person left alive.

Well. That is, if either of them can really be considered “alive”. What does that mean anyway, when the humans who defined what it means to be alive are all gone?

This is something they’ll have to explore and define for themselves as they attempt to set aside their myriad of differences and try to work together on one of the few ways left to escape the dark fate of ultimate isolation - The Grand Encoder, a machine that can upload minds to a special medium - if it even works for them anyway. In the process, they slowly come to accept that maybe they’d had each other all wrong and weren’t seeing the bigger picture.

You may not find any action-packed Star Wars like escapades here in this sci fi drama. You also won’t find ponderings about the origins of vampires or what gave rise to robot sentience - It’s integral to the plot that these things just ARE. But you will find a thoughtful exploration of identity and how it can cause us to define ourselves and relate to (or abandon) each other depending on the framework within which we are doing that exploration and within which we are compelled to exist. It asks the question, what if the frameworks within which we defined our existence and purpose no LONGER existed...Where would we go from there?

And as two immortal guys who are the only folks left in the universe (as far as they know), Eyan and Zero are just the right people to mull over that.

There is both textual and allegorical queerness in this story - both main characters should be considered gay men, even if it’s The Future TM and terms/exact scopes of identities may not be EXACTLY 1-1 with today’s...But I want to be perfectly clear that it was my intent to make them gay because I wanted to see more gay guys in sci fi and I don’t want anyone erasing that. As for the allegorical stuff - I myself am a trans gay man in my late 30s, so this act of re-exploring and re-framing myself and evaluating how and why queer folks interact with each other the way we do is something I’m very familiar with, and I feel like other folks might relate. (I also peppered in some neurodivergent-person-in-a-neurotypical-world moods tbh.)

Of course it’s not all serious. I do have a bit of fun with some old school vampire tropes, tossing Eyan around and putting him in Situations.

Every last monotonous step (well, aside from literally loading up a printing press to churn out volumes lol - BUT REST ASSURED IF I HAD $10K TO PISS INTO THE WIND I WOULD DO THAT TOO). Edit before I go ahead and blaze this: I want to say, to be honest, the creation of comic was initially motivated almost entirely by the isolation/loneliness I’ve felt in my life. It’s not as bad as some folks’ and I know that, but it is a really prevalent thread throughout my life and sometimes is almost unbearable, and my comic began as an exploration of that loneliness, as well as a narrative exercise to try and express the depth of it at its worst point. I’m putting this out here because ultimately I don’t know...maybe someone will catch my drift and understand the feeling I’m trying to illustrate, and maybe they’ll want to see the plot that came of those feelings. I am not above the need to feel seen lol, especially if other people out there feel like they can resonate with this experience as well.

"Now, what exactly is 'The Marvelous Mechanical Harlequin' AU?"

Well I'm glad you asked! The Marvelous Mechanical Harlequin, or "Harlequin AU" for short, is a grimdark sci-fantasy story about "Puppets", whom are soul-infused robots, trying to regain their lost humanity in a broken world.

It follows Pomni, a short-tempered Combat Harlequin, as she explores the city of Circuits with the aid of Caine, The Puppetmaster.

However, as the story progresses, Pomni not only realizes that there's more to the grand scheme of things as she explores more and more, she also uncovers The Puppetmaster's story, and what secrets he may be hiding.

"How do the boss fights go down in the story?"

Action-packed, fast paced, involves a lot of dying on Pomni's part.

Even though this is inspired by a Souls-like, the boss fights go down more so like a mixture between Cuphead, Shadow of the Colossus, and God of War (2018/Raganarok). Mostly God of War.

"Are there going to be canon ships in this AU?"

Yes! The AU is very Showtime (Caine x Pomni) centric, and some of the story aspects of the AU are heavily surrounded on that. There is a bit of Jesterdoll (Pomni x Ragatha) in it, too.

Aside from these canon ships, all is fair game. The Puppets don't have ages seeing as to how they are robots (and were already adults prior to their conversion), so the possibilities are endless.

"Can I make fanarts/fanfics/make original content for your AU?"

Why, of course you can! In fact, I would REALLY love to see it, as long as it complies with my personal boundaries below. So don't be afraid to tag this blog, or @iamespecter in your posts if you want me to see it!

"What are the boundaries of the AU?"

Go wild! The AU's rating is pretty mature, if it wasn't obvious already for it's grimdark genre.

However... I would like to ask that if you would like to make something dark even for my standards for this AU (i.e non-con or dark kinks), all I ask is that you don't show it to me. I personally do not like it, and do not vibe with it.

"What are your thoughts about NSFW surrounding the AU?"

Suggestive content and NSFW is allowed! I am an adult, and I personally enjoy them. (I think I'll make a blog for the more... spicy things.)

HOWEVER! Please tag it properly with "cw suggestive", "tw suggestive", "tw nsft" and various other tags for people who do not wish to see them, or are minors. I can't keep track of everything try as I might, so it'll be up to you to be a decent person, which I know you will be.

For you, it might be. The story leans heavily around Pomni and Caine's relationship as a whole, and I'm sorry. I'm just really soft about them.

an update on this; penguins of madagascar comic masterpost

after doing more digging, ive come to the conclusion that not all of these titles are actually different comics/stories as i previously thought. while this is the most comprehensive list i originally found, it comes from retail website, and thus lists all the different editions to have hit the market. so not all of them are individual stories, some are just reprints of pre-existing comics (sometimes with different covers), and others are different combinations of issues being republished as one volume (sometimes along witch exclusive material). all of this made everything very annoying to catalog, especially since i had no access to any physical or digital copies in most cases, and relied almost entirely on comic retail websites and comicbook databases. still, i will use the original list as a base reference and refer to it as such in the rest of this post. ive tried using the Grand Comic Database to find additionnal information, but either im too dumb to operate the website or it didnt have much to give me in the first place.

please note that i don't know jack about the comic publishing industry in the US or american comic books in general and this was all very confusing to me. also, once again, i didnt have access to the physical copies of any of the comics (i love these god damn penguins with all my heart but im not paying overseas shipping in this economy). everything i say here should be taken with a huge grain of salt - hell, make that the entire salt shaker. however i did my best to cross-reference as many sources i could, and left no stone unturned in my investigation of children's comicbooks from a decade ago. so, from the information i gathered, here is a list of all the issues of the penguins of madagascar comics that i could find in chronological order;

Operation Wonder from Down Under - Part 1 (2010). the story is about the penguins going to australia to help a platypus reunite with her eggs. it takes place in the tv show's universe. contrary to the other comics, all of the four issues follow each other to tell one single story. also includes an extra story titled Rico's Remedy. the scans are available in full on archive.org here

Operation Wonder from Down Under - Part 2 (2012) a direct continuation of the previous comic. this one is fun because i can't find any english language source about it, since everything that comes up when i look up wonder from down under is the 2010 issue :) it wouldve gone completely past me if it wasnt for an ad at the end of wonder from down under p.1 and a listing for the physical copy on a french comic retail website. no complete scans of it exist to my knowledge, but you can have some low quality promotional rips as a treat;

Operation Weakest Link and other stories (2012). this one also takes place in the show's universe. the title story is about the penguins splitting up and teaming with the other zoo animals to capture Mort as training. additionnal stories include Rico's Bad Day (i dont think i need to explain this one), It's A Man's World (private gets a human suit and gets a little too invested in the role) and Subway Shenanigans (which is also just that). scans on the archive here

Petey Pestilence (2012). this is a single issue and i have nothing to go off of apart from a title, a publishing date and these pages. it might have been an extra story published with WFDU part. 2, similarly to Rico's Remedy in part 1, but that's pure guesswork on my part.

Mortzilla vs. Kowalski (2013). it looks like an alternative take on an episode of the show where Mort gets really big and Kowalski has to gigantify himself to stop him. once again, no scans, only the first four pages in abysmal quality.

The Elusive Volume 3 (2014-2015). so. as you may have guessed. this one's a doozy. to start off, there are no synospses online that fit this volume. the reference list only cites It's A Man's World as being part of this volume, but also mentions three other issues without including a synopsis for them. however, after proceeding by elimination, i was conveniently left with three referenced issues that were published around 2015 and which i had no idea where i could fit, so i decided to assume they were the missing issues from the Elusive Volume 3. these include;

Big Night Out (2015). i have nothing else to offer here. ive found a mention of a red carpet scenario attached to this title but that's litteraly it

When In Rome (2015). story about an evil magician or something. this one has five pages available instead of four, aren't we lucky!

The Great Drain Robbery (2015). story about the sewer rats, with SIX pages available!! im ngl the artistic direction for this one looks really good and id love to read it in full

Operation Heist (2015). this volume contains two issues, Big Top and Operation Heist. Big Top is about the penguins post-Madagascar 3 managing the circus and an Evil Clown Villain(tm) trying to take it down. Operation Heist is pretty self-explanatory, the penguins go to London, try to steal the crown jewels (good for them) and get involved in art theft and shenanigans. the scans are also on archive.org

The Elite-est of the Elite (2016). takes place right after the PoM movie, and contains four issues; Flightless, Elite-est of the Elite parts 1 and 2, and Arctic Foxed. all of them are about the penguins and the north wind teaming up in some way. it has two bonus stories: Broken, part 1 and 2 (story about the north wind on a solo adventure) and The Baby Penguins of Madagascar (two short stories, Ice Baby and The Frozen Terror. ive seen some websites include a strip called Sweet Treat, i believe it could be an alternative name for Frozen Terror, but if it isnt im at a loss). scans here on the archive

im a bit embarassed bc my original screenshot was kinda misleading and might have made people think there were more pom comics than there actually are... i shouldve done more research before posting everything in the heat of the moment,,, for my defense i got really excited 👉👈 i really hope this post may hopefully make it clearer to anyone who might be interested in the comics!

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 10 first part

Meet the Hotties

Since there have been only 7 or 8 brutally hot men in this show so far, which is clearly not sufficient, this episode drops three fresh ones right from the jump. Meet true loves cultivation partners travel buddies SongXiao. The ethereal one, Xiao Xingchen...

The forceful one, Song Lan...

...and their nemesis Xue Yang.

Xue Yang has some Yin Metal...oh hai I just noticed, his name is Yang and he has Yin Metal. Which...probably doesn’t mean anything. When he first appears he’s so fey and over the top he could be taken for a comic relief character, except for all of the corpses he’s scattered around, and the one moment where he is caught off guard in the fight and looks genuinely angry. 

Later, of course, we discover that he’s a fucking psycho an extremely complex person with a fascinating range of emotions, none of which are good.

Not Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting

Wei Wuxian tells Jiang Cheng not to join the fight but just to watch Xiao Xingchen’s moves; then he proceeds to join the fight by using his web shooter binding talisman to keep Xue Yang off guard and in the field of battle. 

Do as I say, not as I do, bro.

It’s all right it’s all right it’s all right, Cocaine

Far from comic relief, Xue Yang is one of the strongest fighters in the show and is a master of his own variety of crafty tricks--the chemical variety. He launches a devastating white powder attack at our gang. His powder attacks later in the show will blind Song Lan and will poison the junior cultivators. 

This powder attack does...nothing. Well okay then. 

Fanmeet

After Xue Yang has been properly suspended tied up to a rafter, the cultivators introduce themselves, and Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng proceed to squee over their idols. Lan Wangji drops some flowery titles for both of them and offers to organize a mass donation of their brand of spring water. 

Jiang Cheng is so happy he shows nearly all of his teeth without being angry. 

Xue Yang butts in to harsh on their fandom and call them hypocrites. Can’t let the nerds have too good of a time. 

Two Minutes in the out of the Closet

Now we have an interesting moment in which characters discuss queerness directly, albeit briefly. Wei Wuxian searches Xue Yang to see if he’s carrying the Yin Iron. 

Most other instances in which queerness is lampshaded in CQL are about Lan Wangji’s discomfort, or growing comfort, with Wei Wuxian and his stripping flirting. 

In this instance, Wei Wuxian fondles Xue Yang’s chest and ass while Xue Yang  asks “what will people think about this M/M action?”

We Wuxian responds, for the whole room to hear, that he DGAF; in fact, he’s proud of being a disaster bi “cheeky.”

While Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes, Lan Wangji takes note. 

Clan with a Plan 

Nie Huaisang and his entourage arrive, and once again the Netflix subtitles take away the meaning of his words as he calls out for Wei-Xiong, Lan-Xiong, and Jiang-Xiong; Netflix has him using surnames only, like an English public school lad. 

The group decides to send Xue Yang to Nie Mingjue for judgement. Meng Yao invites them all to come hang with Nie Mingjue at the Unclean Realm, to decide how to best fuck up the Wen clan.

Note: “Unclean” seems to be an accurate translation but it has particular connotations for western audiences who grew up steeped in the Bible or Monty Python. Like, “would you like to come to the plague castle?” type of connotations. 

Meng Yao: Can you all come with me? I’ve got another hot man to add to this episode. 

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian look deeply into each other’s eyes in order to decide if they’re going to go to Unclean Realm with the Nie gang , and they opt yes. 

SongXiao do the same thing and opt no, with a speech about how the clans are a bunch of eugenicist snobs, or words to that effect. 

This speech convinces Wei Wuxian to immediately join their fan club.  He is...really not cut out for clan life. 

Night Swimming Hunting

Wei Wuxian praises SongXiao for their egalitarian values, and compares himself and Lan Wangji to them, giving Lan Wangji one of his sweetest, warmest smiles.

This moment is clearly embarrassing to Lan Wangji, but most things are embarrassing to Lan Wangji, and unlike the “shut up!” moment in Episode 09, this time it doesn’t make him angry, barely earning a tiny glare. 

It’s different this time for Wei Wuxian as well, because he’s not teasing or being provocative; he’s genuinely moved to tell this roomful of people that he cherishes Lan Wangji. 

It does make Jiang Cheng angry, and he tells Wei Wuxian, not for the first time, that because of his attachment to Lan Wangji, he should not come home. 

This is a standard jealous response from Jiang Cheng, and he doesn’t mean it...yet.  But there’s a direct line between each of these false banishments, and the moment when he actually does banish the two of them from the Jiang family shrine. 

Baoshan Sanren

Wei Wuxian quickly goes from being cheerfully aflutter over these kindred spirits, to being stunned and even devastated when he discovers an unexpected family connection. 

Xiao Xingchen: My grand master is Baoshan Sanren

For once Lan Wangji doesn’t seem all that attuned to WWX’s feelings, while Jiang Chang super is. 

Jiang Cheng: Should I say something? Words? About feelings? Yeah no.

Outside of the compound, Xiao Xingchen and Wei Wuxian talk about WWX’s mother. In this moment we see how kind Xiao Xingchen is, when he carefully softens the blow of his revelation that Baoshan Sanren is not accepting students or visitors or new patients at this time or at any time. 

I hope that finding Baoshan Sanren is what Wei Wuxian did with his solo road trip at the end of Episode 50. 

XXC and WWX acknowledge their clan relationship, which takes Wei Wuxian another step away from his membership in the Jiang clan, and creates a filial obligation to his newfound shishu that he will fulfill much later, in Yi City.

Once again Jiang Cheng sees and understands Wei Wuxian’s pain, and gazes at him with love and concern, but he doesn’t reach out or speak. They are not a reaching out & speaking pair of people. Once we see their whole family together, we will understand why.

Farewell to SongXiao

When SongXiao hit the road, Lan Wangji watches them with a look of pure yearning, and then turns that look, with total openness, to Wei Wuxian. 

Lan Wangji: Ow

The open road and the chivalrous path pull equally at both WWX and LWJ, but Lan Wangji lives under a weight of formal obligation that he will carry for his entire life. During WWX’s second life he will find ways to compromise between the forces that are pulling him, but not escape them.

Wei Wuxian’s obligations are just as heavy, eventually costing him his family and his life, but they are dictated only by his heart and conscience. Yet he never suggests that Lan Wangji should follow his path. He constantly insists on LWJ’s attention, but he accepts that their roads are different, which is part of what makes Lan Wangji’s declaration on the Carp Tower steps so touching; he is giving Wei Wuxian something he never, ever asked for. 

Here, WWX acknowledges both of their sorrows with a nod, and they walk away together to play their parts in the coming war. 

Keep an Eye on the Psycho

Nie Huaisang sighs in admiration of the departing hotties, while Xue Yang tells Xiao Xingchen not to forget him. Which is very, very, very good advice.

Meng Yao is put in charge of guarding Xue Yang. I hope that doesn’t awaken anything in him.

As a short info for any potentially confused and/or curious, I have two main stories both which are still connected to one another.

The Grand Scheme of the Universe

This is the story about the humans gifted with supernatural powers, living in a world packed with a type of magical aether known as supernatural energy. This world is inhabited by gods and aliens and the story itself is rather a collection of stories taking place within this vast world and its different eras. Within this complex of stories, I mostly focus on the life of identical twins, Ryo and Ryach.

The Garden

The Garden is the newer story and the updated working title for the previous “New Universe”. The Garden is a vast space between realities, a multidimensional hub and stars some of my lesser-known characters such as Roe, Cloudbarrier and Shike. Where my primary story is best described as a complex of individual stories scattered on a single timeline, The Garden is best described as a complex of entire worlds

First off, a little bit about Pris, because she’s an essential part of their meeting:

Pris is @myxcenterxstage​’s OC, who is a Victorian lady from Tesla’s time (the year 1905). Tesla’s teleportation experiment accidentally sends her into the future, right into Aperture, where she meets GLaDOS. GLaDOS discovers that being from the past grants her ‘temporal immunity’, meaning the laws of the universe literally will not let her die. She is stuck there with GLaDOS for 3 years until GLaDOS finally succeeds in constructing a time portal to send her back home. Over those 3 years, Pris befriended GLaDOS in a sort of ‘annoying roommate’ type of way, and managed to bring out a bit of GLaDOS’s kindness and humanity. She sort of softened GLaDOS up a bit for Tesla, haha. Also, barely any time passed back in Pris’s time, so when she returns, it’s only been around 15-20 minutes since she’s been gone.

Unexpected Visitor RP:

Then comes Tesla and GLaDOS’s first meeting in the Unexpected Visitor RP. Here’s the posts for that RP listed chronologically (oldest to newest) and here’s a direct link to it if you’re on mobile, since you should be able to read all the replies in the Notes view on mobile.

We never got around to finishing that RP, but basically, he was going to hack his way through the facility with his cleverness and then at some point, GLaDOS would have a component on her body break, causing her pain. (It would either be a random malfunction, or accidentally caused by him while trying to lower her defenses.) He would then insist on fixing it for her and she would refuse and be stubborn about it, but he just does it anyway. She’d be too stubborn to thank him and would just send him back home through the time portal in her chamber that she made for Pris.

After that, he constructs a time portal in his time connected to hers and keeps coming back for visits because he is intrigued about Aperture’s future technology, and he finds GLaDOS herself a marvel, and he also likes that it’s a quiet place to work where no one will disturb him other than GLaDOS. GLaDOS is annoyed that he keeps coming back and pestering her, but she actually enjoys his company, and over the course of a few months, she grows to like him because of his charm and wit, his genius, and his love of science. She even develops a crush on him. He develops a crush on her too, but is hesitant about pursuing that crush because he thinks himself crazy for having those kind of feelings for an automaton. It’s not until she creates her human hard-light holographic form and reveals to him that she used to be human at one point that he breathes a sigh of relief and allows himself to fall head over heels for her, haha.

and you know what this is a fucking personal gripe but as a trans person this comic about strapless strap ons gave me so much fucking hope when i was like 17 and didnt know shit about how awful this comic is and how bad its information is but this shitty comic talks about how AWESOME the strapless strap on is and how AMAZING and PERFECT it is without mentioning that its very unlikely someone with a vagina can actually wear it (tw for casual cissexism)
