also. We’re taking the derivative (dt/dx) of (a-b)^2 times (t + x)^(1/2)
That’s a rate.
Not a formula.
We can’t even solve it???
I have so many questions.
What the fuck are a and b variables for? Assuming t is time (clearly not a safe assumption, but we need SOMETHING) to work with, what is x measuring?
Why is the formula for going into the fourth dimension the rate of change of time with respect to x???
TIME is the dependent variable here.
this is so fucked up i know they just wanted haha cool math symbols but they don’t consider what it does to us

Merlin’s Marvelous Misadventures: How I Stumbled into 4D
Gather 'round, noble friends, and prepare yourselves for a tale that’s as twisted as a dragon’s tail and as tangled as Morgana’s hair after a particularly windy day. It all began one crisp Camelot morning when I decided that my wizarding talents could use a bit of fine-tuning. You see, even a seasoned sorcerer like myself needs to stay sharp, lest he accidentally transfigure King Arthur into a toad instead of a triumphant king.
I was in my tower, surrounded by tomes and scrolls, deep in the throes of concocting a potion to keep my beard luxuriously silky, when a strange shimmer caught my eye. It was an old, dusty mirror—a relic from a time long past, wedged between “101 Uses for Dragon Scales” and “How to Train Your Unicorn.” Naturally, being the inquisitive fellow that I am, I decided to take a closer look.
As I approached the mirror, I noticed that it didn’t reflect my charming visage. Instead, it showed a peculiar scene: a place where up wasn’t always up, and down wasn’t necessarily down. Intrigued and, admittedly, a bit bored of beard care, I muttered an incantation to reveal the mirror’s secrets. A flash of light, a bit of smoke, and suddenly, I was no longer in Camelot.
I found myself in a dimension that defied all logic and reason—a place where knights rode horses that appeared to trot through invisible walls, where jesters tumbled not just in circles but through impossible loops, and where goblets floated serenely in mid-air, defying the laws of gravity and common sense. “Merlin, old chap,” I thought to myself, “you’ve really outdone yourself this time.”
As I wandered through this topsy-turvy world, I bumped into an odd little fellow named Edwin Abbott. He was a flat, two-dimensional character with an impressive grasp of geometry and a penchant for long-winded explanations. He introduced me to the concept of Flatland, a world where the inhabitants only knew of two dimensions. Intrigued, I listened as he rambled on about squares, circles, and the mind-boggling notion of a third dimension.
Soon, another character appeared—Rudy Rucker, a modern-day wizard of sorts, armed with the arcane knowledge of relativity and the fourth dimension. He spoke of time not as a linear path but as a vast landscape where one could frolic and meander at will. As he waxed lyrical about tesseracts and hyperspaces, I couldn’t help but feel a spark of excitement. This fourth dimension sounded like the perfect playground for a wizard looking to spice up his magical repertoire.
Determined to grasp the ungraspable, I spent days—perhaps weeks, who could tell in a place where time was as flexible as a court jester’s acrobatics—exploring this enigmatic fourth dimension. I learned that what seemed like mere parlor tricks were, in fact, windows into a deeper understanding of the cosmos. I toyed with tesseracts, those cheeky four-dimensional cubes, and marveled at how they folded and unfolded like an enchanted origami.
After what felt like an eternity of delightful confusion, I was suddenly whisked back to my tower, the mirror now silent and still. My beard potion bubbling away, I knew I couldn’t keep this newfound knowledge to myself. So, I did what any self-respecting wizard would do—I grabbed a quill and began to write. I penned down everything I had learned, infused with a pinch of humor and a dollop of whimsy, hoping to share the marvels of the fourth dimension with the good people of Camelot.
And that, dear friends, is how I came to write about the mystical 4D. A tale that began with a mundane morning turned into a magical adventure, all thanks to a dusty old mirror and a curious mind. So, without further ado, I present to you my magnum opus on the fourth dimension, a wizard’s guide to a world where reality bends, twists, and, occasionally, does a little jig. Enjoy!

I found it!
Tumblr media
It's called "The Fourth Dimension," and it's by Marius Van Boordt. The poster was printed in the Netherlands by John Faber Production, which is what the "JF" initials were for. I found it on this Etsy listing.
I love finding long-lost art like this! Subscribe to my sci-fi art newsletter for the full story... I'm going to make the next issue about this and other Van Boordt artworks.

Here’s a big art mystery: Can anyone identify this poster? The only clue is that it was hanging on a bedroom wall in the mid-80s in NSW, Australia.
