If Jake Windsnap wrote “The Forsaken Merman”…. Does this mean the series is set in an alternate universe where he wrote it and not Matthew Arnold? Did Matthew Arnold steal the poem from Jake? Or did Jake steal the poem from Matthew Arnold ? Did Matthew Arnold never exist in this series’ universe?

My speedpaint contribution to #mermay with some Bloodweave. Featuring merman Gale and Deep Sea Leviathan Astarion. Each of these pics took under or just over an hour to do. I'll probably redesign / redraw Deep Sea Leviathan at a later stage. Some lore to go along with them: When Gale boards the small vessel barely enough to fit a crew of six, Mystra reassures him that mermaids are not to be feared. He's read of them of course. Alluring, feminine; specimens of beauty and wonder. But dangerous. Enough that should you see the shimmer of their scales in the water, you should avert your eyes immediately and to not let them fool you into thinking their scales are in fact precious gems, just barely out of reach. That when their siren song calls, you ensure your ears are stuffed with enough cotton and you keep away from the drink to retain your sanity.
So when he finds himself and their glorified canoe out in the stretch of the deep sea, fading into an endless nothingness, his mind can't help but wander. What else is hiding in the depths? Mystra doesn't let him find out. When something unfathomably large and dark stirs a wake large enough to rock their ship, the woman shoves him overboard. It turns out the fairytales were exactly that; tales, but the reality is so much worse.
Cast into the depths as a sacrifice for safe passage, Gale cannot help but flounder. He'd never learned to swim despite living in a place called Waterdeep. The irony isn't lost on him as he sinks, down and down like a stone, straining into an eternity of blue as his lungs fill with water and dread. But he isn't empty-handed. The artefact he'd stolen from that gods forsaken cursed fortress was still with him, and with no other choice except to reach for desperation, he plunges it within his chest, hoping, praying for a lifeline.
Aka mermaids are propaganda tales used by sailors. Mermaids are in fact hideously large monstrous creatures, leviathans in their own right that trade safe voyage for flesh whose existence is kept quiet. Gale ends up using the orb and manages to somehow turn himself into a false merman to escape the pursuit of such a creature, who instead of choosing to consume him, keeps him as an oddity of his own. The fact they both glow amuses the monster. Astarion lures ships and takes sacrifices to his master, The Great Old One of the Depths - Cazador. Meeting Gale, which at first turns out to just be a bigger fish tormenting a smaller fish story turns into something more when Gale helps to undo the pact keeping Astarion bound to the Old God. Astarion's design is based off a deep sea angler fish for the luring / lives in the dark aspect and a Dunkleosteus which is a prehistoric fish with boney plating for making him seem ancient / old in appearance.

We can bake the sushi, or just sashimi
Intro: The salty seas brought you a salty merman. Guess you’re having grilled fish tonight.
Warnings: bad writing, awful grammar, not proofread, jokes about killing each other and eating him, tbh i would like to eat him but maybe in a different context, maybe some background azul x reader

Jade's Birthday Countdown
You stare at the fish caught in your net.
It stares back.
Let it be known that through all your years sailing through the stormy waves of this god-forsaken ocean, never before had you encountered such a big fish in your fishing net. Big enough to feed you and your whole crew for two days at least.
“I am not a fish.”
And it talks, but that part is unnecessary.
“I reckon if I cut off your upper half, I can slice your tail into fish filet and have ‘em fried right up when the ship gets back to the dock.”
“I believe that should you even attempt to raise that rusted sword against me, I will claw you into flesh ribbons, tie your remains into a long rope, and use it to hoist myself overboard and back to my home waters.”
“It ain’t rusted.”
“And I’m not a fish.”
You roll your eyes and step towards the net, gaze roving over slick teal skin and claws sharper than your sword that was fresh from the whetstone as they tapped restlessly on the thick ropes that bound him. His mismatched gold and olive irises glint ominously in the moonlight, but there’s a sort of elegance to his mythical form that makes it impossible for you to turn away. He commands your attention by simply existing.
But you’re not dumb enough to show that.
“An eel? Even better, I can make barbecue outta’ ya’ still,” you drawl in a low voice, “and you’ll taste real good with some smoked paprika.”
The merman scoffs lightly at your threat. It seems he’s not taking you seriously by the way he breaks out into a wide grin. “Such threats. And yet, I know of you and your splendid reputation. A kind pirate, such a strange thing, though here you exist after all.”
“You jumped into the wrong ship if you were looking for a kind pirate, of all things.”
“Please. You can call me edible, but it won’t do to deny my intel. Preposterous.”
You shake your head. “Ain’t no pirate stupid enough to be nice.”
“You haven’t killed me yet,” he chuckles, “all bark and no bite. I heard you rescued a certain octopus mer from death by fighting a different fleet. It’s hard to imagine someone so…nice, could lay a hand against me. Say, since you’re so kind, could you perhaps let me see the little potted plants that Azul said you keep on board? He’s had so very much to say about you, and I couldn’t help but grow curious.”
You sigh. Pushing the rotating wooden beam that the net hung on back over the sea, you slash at the ropes and the strange eel merman dives back down with a ‘plop’.

Mermaid DFO au please? 👀❤
1 - From as far as Izuku can remember, he has always been drawn by the ocean but his mother categorically refuses for him to go into the sea. Naturally, since children don't always listen to their parents, Izuku often go swimming, but in secret.
2 - One day, Izuku rescues a merman trapped in a net. He quickly becomes friend with Tomura. Like, in a day. Through their conversation, Tomura reveals many things about the mermaid society.
2.A - Such as the fact there was tiny bit of war fifteen years ago where poor innocent mermaids were persecuted because of who they were, many of them seeking refuge outside the sea. Tomura is a child of the mermaids who aren't accepted in mermaid society anymore, forced to wander in the trench.
2.B - And that Izuku is so drawn to the ocean, it's possible he's actually the child of one of them.
3 - Izuku doesn't believe it for a second. Tomura looks great and everything but he's no mer. He says goodbye to his friend and goes back home, only to find it ransacked and his mother nowhere to be found. He follows the traces and sees that it leads straight to the sea. He also finds a box under the floor where mermaid jewelries were hidden. One of them is a beautiful green jewel that always feels very cold to the touch, no matter how long it stays under the sun.
4 - Tomura confirms that this is mermaid jewelry indicating that Izuku's mom was from the Shimura pod, which doesn't mean anything to Izuku but Tomura assures Izuku that this is a forsaken clan and that All Might might have find her and dragged her under the sea to answer for her crimes. Of being a Shimura.
5 - Humans can't do anything to help. Tomura offers a plan because Izuku saved his life by freeing him from that net. They check that Izuku can turn into a mer (he can... kind of) and they are going to seek the help of Tomura's master. He was imprisoned in a cave in the deepest part of the ocean but with the green jewel that Tomura found in Izuku's home, they will be able to free him. (Because the jewel has ancient powerful magic and the mermaids who took Inko were probably looking for it.) and he will fix everything.
6 - Izuku follows Tomura on this quest and discovers the world under the sea. It's beautiful and he makes friends with many people, but he never forgets that if they knew that he was a Shimura, he would be taken away, just like his mom.
7 - But as the trip goes on, Izuku starts to get more and more uncomfortable.
8 - It just feels weird that Tomura, despite loving his sensei so much, lets Izuku keeps the jewel.
9 - Tomura somehow looks really uncomfortable when Izuku is nice to him. When he saved his life and got injured for it, Tomura looked incredibly guilty.
10 - But the thing that really bothers him is that he soon learns that every mermaid, just like people on the surface, have some specific kind of magic.
11 - Tomura can decay things.
12 - So why didn't he use his magic to decay the mundane fisher net Izuku rescued him from?

We shall see, while above us
The waves roar and whirl,
A ceiling of amber,
A pavement of pearl.
Singing: “Here came a mortal,
But faithless was she!
And alone dwell for ever
The kings of the sea.”
The Forsaken Merman by Matthew Arnold (1849)

Mermay blank look
A World of Warcraft mermaid AU featuring Hulbard, my Forsaken Death Knight, and a entry for @mermay-abyssal-zone prompt blank.
Merfolks are nervous around Hulbard, a merman with a black scale fish tail, a pale skin tone, and a blank look on his face. Hulbard usually wave to other merfolks swiiming by and they wave back before they swim far away as they could from him.

the Deadly Families, often referred to as the Deadly Arts Committee. Made up of all five species, from the three worlds plus the dimensions; they created this tournament for the mightiest of super kind. To be archived for history & erowology purposes; as well as bragging purposes. It's undeterminable how many families were in the blood pact to create the magical tournament. The eight shown here are some fo the contenders & heads of the current committee. A few of them are the last heir of their blood line. They have to be involved no matter what. Ganon, fairy with a prominent high school teacher gig of language arts. Can speak, write & translate thirty languages fluently. He is the last of the House of Moore. Wiza, mermaid who is the head of the Toboroa Clan. A once beyond acclaimed dojo that developed some of the most historical weapons of mass creation & destruction. She is the last of the House of Toboroa. Karvington, human that is a prominent weapon for the Heroes Guild. Bounty Hunting his life away out of vengeance for the slaying of his sorcery bound family. He is the last of the House of Hwoagse. Veira Isolde, mermaid whom's an interdimensional pop star. Every tournament, she comes back to sing the anthem. Begins with, "This is my fist, this is your dome…" Sings it at the closing of the tournament too. Jaguar Rhymes, human who has held down the position of the tournament host for half a decade leading up to the beginning of the story. Ultimate with the friendly vibes & never ridicules any of the contenders. Everybody loves him & will love him. Project Hurt, mermaid who was blessed with the killer gene. Disciplines make it so she isn't deemed evil; but if you were to ever discover her serial killer side, you'd question her license to kill. Big on helping out Karvington, cause she's secretly in love with him. Omeguno, merman owner of Club Oh My Goodness; contribute all of that mess to his forsaken code name. Forsaken because it's an urban legend of it's own that immediately makes him likable as if his looks & martial arts prowess don't have that star power already. & Blide Clear, fairy who is the head of the committee & the head of the round table. He takes the continued survival of Deadly Arts seriously, even though he acts like he wants to keep it a secret from public knowledge. He wants more for the tournament; which is why he doesn't bury the footage magically. For he, wants to enjoy as many super beings as possible too.

“Wretched wight: the morning”
She is fled! Farewell! ’ Wretched wight: the morning some Dreams, when they led—a
kind seal than their merriment, and as my prayer and greenest will ache
who were zombies. And happier that darkness and fruit; which on thy queen
went and all that all the lake behind the wrong for to have new doubt is
Devil-born. Smells of Yule. She sat out so my wealthy can never side;
the starlight the settle throbs were then gusts shame and melt thy thick with their
prayed so loyal unto metal world. So never the last, through. No, the
influence- rich the coast. And naiads fair as though severe comforting change
my wit, knowing power, I do but one or tides seaward from him; so,
bent on the bull and shorter a thousands a glory swims the Merman!
For you in my faith harp be told me, firm, protective, searching westward
up those shuffling new; if those bell will right; is changing for the sea:
and show the roast measuring in one poor solitude. And suffocate
trebly street, forsaken hand crescent There, out his defecates.

“She steals to the window,
And looks at the sand;
And over the sand to the sea;
And her eyes are set in a stare;
And anon there breaks a sigh,
And anon there drops a tear.”

I desperately need help finding this book I read probably a decade ago. I can't remember any character names but i know that the mc was a teen girl who sorta lived in some sort of theater and I think and she wanted to find her mom or the truth about her mom but her guardian/parent person wouldn't let her but she leaves anyway. She also has two or three fairies that hang with her all the time and I think they're might have been something with a merman. I literally cannot stop thinking about this God forsaken book someone help please.

“On the blanch'd sands a gloom;
Up the still, glistening beaches,
Up the creeks we will hie,
Over banks of bright seaweed
The ebb-tide leaves dry.
We will gaze, from the sand-hills,
At the white, sleeping town;
At the church on the hill-side—
And then come back down.
Singing: "There dwells a loved one,
But cruel is she!
She left lonely for ever
The kings of the sea."

“Come away, away children
Come children, come down!
The hoarse wind blows coldly;
Lights shine in the town.
She will start from her slumber
When gusts shake the door;
She will hear the winds howling,
Will hear the waves roar.
We shall see, while above us
The waves roar and whirl,
A ceiling of amber,
