Summary: One of the truths behind Toji's beef with Gojo

The REAL reason Toji has major beef with Gojo is because Gojo had a crush on you during his high school days when you would sub for Yaga in the classroom and training sessions. He did try his best to keep it under wraps but Geto was like,
"Bro, she's the same age as Yaga-sensei. . . Stop reaching, Satoru. . . Do I need to remind you who (L/N)-sama is married to again?"
The Gojo responded with, "Suguru, I don't give a shit about that loser. He's a bum, anyway. The question you should be asking is why (L/N)-dono is fucking married and still in-love to a deadbeat like him. I would have been a better option. Face it Suguru, I'm right."
While Satoru has a point, as Suguru noted, it doesn't change the fact that Satoru was crushing on a MARRIED woman who had TWO kids.
Though it was true, Satoru would have technically been a good husband/father/lover. However, there are many reasons why it must be ruled out.
Satoru is over half your age. Picking him meant allegations and a prison cell. Gojo tried reasoning with you, "But (Y/N)-dono! Age is just a number, give me two years!" "And Prison is just a place, Satoru-kun. I don't want to be labeled as a child predator, let alone be framed for "seDuCinG" the Gojo heir. I want to have a clean record."
While his personality brought you happiness, his carefree nature would clash a lot with you. He can mature but his child-like spirit and carefree persona isn't something you would personally deal with.
He was more of your protégé/junior/student if anything. You saw him more as your son and acted like a parental figure. You wanted to watch him grow and mature. Not become his lover.
To spite the higher-ups and Jujutsu elders(excluding your clan). Given you were a powerful and skillful sorcerer, marrying Gojo would be "BeNeFiCiaL" to Jujutsu society. However, it meant that you were on a watchlist 24/7 and pressured to have an HeIR. It made you physically sick and ill thinking what those old useless dementia white-haired cowards are allow to do that just to better "society" but not its citizens.
You are MARRIED to a man who is trying to step up after his major fuck ups. It's not perfect but Toji is his best trying after you gave him his life and freedom. Since he technically can't leave your home or go to Jujutsu High without your supervision, he's basically househusband duty. And he was getting pretty damn good at it too. Plus Toji's hot, he got you feral and gnawing at your teeth with his signature smile and smirk. And the way his arms flex when he crosses them, or how they feel when you link arms together.
While it wasn't super obvious, okay it was obvious, you always shot down Satoru's playful confessions and light-hearted shenanigans. Basically rejecting him every time. Usually, Suguru would warn you in advance but you know it would happen with each interactions. While you firmly turned him down, you made him understand why it can't and WON'T happen. You still care for him, just never romantically, only platonically and motherly. You made it clear that his "love" for you was just a strong admiration and infatuation disguised as a crush.
Though he was heartbroken, at first. Satoru slowly understand what you mean and his crush slowly fades away as it's replaced with immense respect for you.
HOWEVER, it still linger and not widely known because Toji finally gets word of this through the grapevine. A.K.A, through his two children Megumi and Tsumiki. It happened one day when you brought the two to the school so you can keep a close eye on them since they didn't have school that day. Toji was out doing errands so the two kids are accompanying you. Megumi and Tsumiki were occupied with their books and toys while you taught and trained the students. Megumi and Tsumiki went to find you because they were hungry and you had their lunches. As they looked for you, they see you talking to Satoru. They meet him a couple of times but he's still a stranger to them compared to Shoko or Suguru. So when they see Gojo with you, all alone with no one around, they thought it was major sus.
As they snuck closer, they could hear bit and pieces of what Gojo is saying to you. Megumi lowkey thinks Gojo is super annoying and acts more of a child then he does. But what catches his ears first was something with along the lines of, "(L/N)-dono, please consider it-" "Satoru-kun, how many time will I need to say no to you? You know I can never feel for you that way. Plus it's bad for me to agree to it. You know that it's admiration and infatuation if anything. Not love."
See Megumi knows you only use love as in 'I love you" to him, his sister, and his dad. But to this dude? Nah, something fishy is going on and Megumi gotta tell his dad about it. Megumi comes running, yelling "Mommy!!!". You and Satoru turn to see your son running to you and colliding with your legs. You crouch down and pat your son's head and smile at your daughter following behind him. Megumi hands your hand tightly as you lead them away to have lunch with your kids. Satoru made a face at Megumi when he saw the kid glare at him.
Once you three made it home, you're in the bathroom changing into some home clothes. Meanwhile, Toji was cooking dinner while Megumi and Tsumiki were waiting for you at the dinner table. As Toji was asking them about their day with you, Megumi brought up Gojo's advances and confession towards you. When Megumi said this, the beef Toji was about to flip plopped right back onto the pan. He looks back at Megumi and asks if there's anything else that he can share. As Megumi shares what he has seen through his perspective, Toji asks Tsumiki to confirm is this is all true, to which she said yes, backing up Megumi's claims.
"Yeah, Papa. Satoru-kun is weird. Even though Mama keeps saying she's married to you, he still does it. Tsumiki saw it too."
"I see... Thank you, Megumi and Tsumiki for watching and taking care of Mama for me. I appreciate it a lot. Can you tell her that dinner is almost ready?"
The kids nodded and went to go get you. After dinner and putting the kids to bed, you were sipping your favorite drink as Toji is doing the dishes. You would have helped him but he said no. While you two were talking, he brings up Satoru and his school crush on you.
"Toji, beloved, you know that it's just a small crush. It's nothing more then puppy love for me. Nothing more and nothing less. And you know that you're the only man that I am willing to give my heart to."
"I know that, (Y/N). But what does this brat got on me to think he's a better match for you? Just because this kid is practically a god doesn't mean everyone will bow down to him. I'm definitely not one of them. And to know that said brat is flirting with you even though you're visibly married with kids, he needs to read the room. I will be going with you to school tomorrow. The kids go back to school the next day, and I already got this week's groceries and cleaned the house."
You would have protested if Toji didn't give you a searing kiss while caging you in his arms. Fuck he looked so hot. Curse him and his good looks *punching the air*.
"Fine, you can come. BUT, Toji you need to behavior yourself. You already knew the deal. You better not be doing any funny business."
"Yes, Ma'am. You're the boss, I promise you." Toji says as he gave you a kiss on the cheek before lightly patting your ass.
After dropping the kids off, Toji accompanies you to the school. Toji is just silent and sits in one of the chairs as you do your lessons. Toji is leaning on the chair with a smirk plastered on his face. Not a care in the world. After a few lessons, you were going to teach and train Gojo, Geto, and Shoko for the rest of the school day. As you went to their classroom, they greet you, especially Gojo. However, the mood changed when they saw Toji walk in behind you, wearing nothing but a black slim fit t-shirt and grey sweatpants. Toji gave a head nod to the teens while he just takes a seat in a chair to lean on it. The three were shock to see him.
Particularly because they did expect him to come with you to the school at all. Suguru had an idea but he hoped it wasn't going to be it. After teaching a lesson, you told the three to practice their curse techniques and let their curse energy loose. While doing so, you told them that you would have to speak to Yaga for a bit on something and would be back 15 minutes tops. You told Toji to behave, and he nodded and gave a thumbs up. As you leave the kids and your husband on the train grounds, that's when the storm started brewing. Toji walks up to Gojo and is 3 feet from him. He smirks while looking at him up and down, sizing him up. Shoko and Suguru are on the sidelines as Toji, a married adult male in his 30s, was beefing with a 16 year old high school student.
Suguru: "Satoru, I don't think this is a good idea-"
Satoru: "Hush now, Suguru. . . It's my time to shine. . . Watch the master at work."
Suguru proceeds to roll his eyes but becomes a little weary after his last encounter with Toji was. . . unideal. Given one of their teachers was shot in the throat by Toji saving Anamai, and himself getting injured. It wasn't something he wanted to constantly get reminded of. But ever since you liberated Toji from the higher ups and explained it to your students, Suguru has slowly been changing his views on Toji. It will take a while but it's getting there. Anyhow, Suguru told Shoko to book it once the two were going to throw down.
Satoru: "So, what brings you back here, Toji~? You just couldn't get me out of that little mind of yours~? You're mad I'm 1-0 with you?"
Toji: "Kid, I'm pretty sure that it's 1-1 since I won our first battle. Anyway, I heard through the grapevine that you gave (Y/N) a love confession. Don't you know it's bad to confess and hit on a married woman who has kids? Were you taught any manners? Then again, by the way you act, you probably have none."
Satoru: "You're just mad, Old Man. That I, Satoru Gojo, would treat (Y/N)-dono better and treat her worth. Face it, Old Man. I'm a better match for her than you'll ever be."
Toji: "Like she ever goes for someone half her age, Brat. Plus, you'll never look at you as a lover ever. You're more of a son to her and that's the closest you'll get."
Satoru: "Well, she doesn't need a bum like you around. Imagine fighting a bunch of teens and getting your ass beat by said teens. Skill issue if you ask me."
Toji: "Watch your tongue, Boy. Remember who made you struggle for the first time in your life and actually killed you. While, you know, fucking up your best friend, the second strongest sorcerer, with no curse energy? I got your ass with no gifts other than being a superhuman with weapons. You can never beat me, I'm just built different, Kid."
Satoru: "You wanna test that, Toji~? You got no curse weapons with you. I can pack you up like you're a school lunch."
Toji: "Kid, please. I don't need any weapons to beat you, let alone kill you. You see this? This is a rock, and I can use it to beat you. I also still have my hands too. And I am more then willing to give it to you, Gojo~kun."
Satoru: "You think I'm scared of someone like you? I've ascended, enlighten if you will. If you even know what that word is. Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one. Remember those words, Fushiguro-san? Remember them good because I will put you six feet underground."
Toji: "I see then, Kid. . . So you're playing God? I guess that makes me a God Slayer then. . . Prepare yourself, Kid. . ."
Satoru: "Alright, bet then, Bozo."
Thus, Gojo and Toji started to go at each other for round 3. Shoko was already gone and the two started fighting in the training grounds. Five minutes have already passed and they have made five decently sized craters. Just as both of them were about to throw a punch at each other, they suddenly felt a powerful presence which halted them. They turn to you walking towards them with a furious face unimaginable.
"GOJO SATORU AND TOJI (L/N) FUSHIGURO!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!?! I LEAVE FOR LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR AND I GET CALLED BACK BECAUSE OF THIS!?!?"
"(Y/N)-dono!!"
"(Y/N)!"
You moved like a blur and appeared next to them vice gripping their forearms tightly. You dragged them to the nearest empty classroom you can find or any room. You were just so livid that you didn't hear Gojo whining about your grip and asking to let you go like a child. As you let them go once you dragged them far enough, you smacked both of them hard on the head. Shoko and Gojo were watching this as Yaga appeared right next to them shortly. It was interesting seeing two of the most broken people in the world kneeling with their heads down in-front of a woman who doesn't have god-like abilities.
"GOJO, WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT USING BOTH OF YOUR ABILITIES DURING TRAINING SESSIONS!?!? YOU KNOW THE CALAMITY AND DAMAGE YOU COULD'VE CAUSED!?"
"BUT (Y/N)-dono! He-"
"NO BUTS, GOJO!! AND YOU, TOJI, I LITERALLY JUST SAID NO FUNNY BUSINESS AND YOU'RE ABOUT TO CREATE THE NEXT SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. I DON'T NEED ANOTHER RAPTURE HERE. I'M STILL DEALING WITH THE AFTERMATH FROM THE TWO OF YOU AS IT IS!!!"
"Okay, Hon. I take full responsibility for my actions today."
"YOU BETTER, TOJI!!! YOU'RE A FULL GROWN MARRIED MAN WITH TWO KIDS!!!"
"But (Y/N)-dono, I was not going to kill him last time-"
"NO ONES DYING HERE!!! NEITHER OF YOU WILL NOT DIE AS LONG AS I AM AROUND. I WON'T LET THE BOTH OF YOU KILL EACH OTHER OVER SOME PETTINESS AND A BOY CRUSH."
You start to calm down but you are still firm with them.
"I know this started because of Satoru's crush on me. . . Satoru, I will not love you romantically and date you. Please understand that. I care for you like family and that is said for the rest of you. Yes you, Suguru, Shoko, and Yaga. And Toji, I'm not leaving you for a child. I would be in jail and not working here. . . Geez, I saw this from a mile away but never expected this to happen. Now, you two better behave yourselves or else. You two don't have to say sorry or anything like of the sort. Just don't go tearing at each other's throats when I both am and am not around. Please, for me. . ."
The two looked at each other before saying a soft yeah. After that, Yaga told you to go home early and he would take it from there. You had to patch up Toji a bit but it wasn't anything of concern. From then on, Toji and Gojo just banter and bicker with each other. It's funny to watch except for Megumi since he's seeing his dad beefing with his unofficial adoptive older brother 24/7.
Satoru eventually grows out of his crush for (Y/N) but Suguru and Shoko never let him down. Hell, it's a running gag in the school about Gojo's old crush on you. Gojo always gets super embarrassed about it, especially when you join in but it's all fun and games with you all.
The only person who genuinely hates it is Megumi because the thought of Gojo having romantic feelings for you and trying to woo you made Megumi visibly ill and sick to his core. He would lowkey help his dad beat up Gojo if Gojo's crush on you became serious again.

the huo daofu round-up post i have been threatening for a really long time now
Thinking about this man, I was just admitting to chat "honestly cannot believe how much life energy i have invested in such a minor character" but the truth of the matter is, I was mildly obsessed with Huo Daofu from Reboot alone; his odd unresolved backstory in Sha Hai just cemented my mental formation. Because let's be real, in a world of overly earnest tomb raiders, this man is a goddamn catty delight. The dainty bitterness! The barely concealed eye-rolling! So many impeccable That Bitch vibes. And his unimpressed snark is honestly such a refreshing antidote to Wu Xie's whole everyone-loves-him Marty Sue thing that even when you discover Huo Daofu secretly ALSO loves him, you don't mind, because by that point Dr. Youtiao is a savage queen who can do no wrong.
And He Longlong clearly made this guy up. In the novels he's just sort of a vaguely beardy guy who drives a truck, that's literally all I remember him ever doing. But someone cast this man, and they gave him some rubber bands and pizza coupons and chewed gum of a script to work with, and he promptly decided: I will make him extremely gay. And staggeringly bitchy. AND IT WORKS. He devours every frame he's in, he steals every scene. It's a performance worthy of Alan Rickman and yes I will die upon this hill.
We all know the bitchy-ex-boyfriend scenes in Reboot—"oh my god I literally can't wait for you to perish from lungs" and then Huo Daofu spends like every moment trying to keep Wu Xie alive, sheltering him uselessly from the rain with his hand, rubbing his back when he coughs, looking (when no one's watching but the camera) like he's maybe going to stop breathing himself, when Wu Xie does.
Apparently Huo Daofu's name sounds very silly in Chinese which I think is appropriate for someone who apparently (?) grew up in Germany (?) and went to the University of Heidelberg (?) (honestly don't waste time trying to figure out DMBJ canon, NPSS has thoughtfully ensured that will only be exhausting and futile). Spurious medical qualifications aside, he's super handy in fanfic, too, when you need a sketchy doctor, as all tomb-raiding mob families invariably do.
[someone once pointed out to me that this combination of degree topics basically translates into "how to dispose of bodies"]
I could also hold forth on him and Yang Hao—like, Su Wan alone makes it REAL clear that Huo Daofu's interest in the kid isn't just avuncular or entrepreneurial:
"Are you working for him, or are you working for him?" And Su Wan should be protective, because Yang Hao is honestly kind of an idiot, and probably doesn't realize he's being assiduously groomed not just as a mob boss but as a potential boy toy. (NB by the way that there are 44 fics in the Huo Daofu/Yang Hao tag, and disappointingly, not a single one of them is in English. Western fandom needs Jesus.)
But the thing is, Huo Daofu SAVES his ass in Gutongjing. Everyone forgets that. There's easily half a dozen times where he grabs Yang Hao's shoulder and hauls him back from danger. And Huo Daofu is the one Jiumen member smart enough to get out ahead of disaster, and to take Yang Hao with him. Here he is looking fabulous in a completely unnecessary but dramatic scarf.
And, at the end, he lets Yang Hao go. Because he's secretly decent.
Sure, he has some vaguely sketchy take-over-the-Huos plans, plans that clearly go awry at some point no matter how dramatically and villainously he makes tea. Sure, he exudes a scurrilous sort of evil. But he's COMPELLING and that's all I care about. Look at his pretty little face here, sourly plotting things, in a windowpane-checked suit which should be ridiculous but just winds up looking snazzy as fuck compared to the rest of the Jiumen. This is a man who understands the value of a pocket square. Thank you so much, He Longlong, we didn't deserve you putting your entire snatch into this very minor performance but some of us are extremely grateful.

Notes: this is one of my very favorite Huo Daofu writers and here's why—read this little excerpt. The angst. The PAIN. Wu Xie absolutely broke this man's heart at some point and honestly Huo Daofu is really only himself if he's suffering, love that for him:
“Easy,” he said, when Wu Xie couldn’t seem to stop coughing. “Here—” and reached for the rest of the tea, except that it wasn’t on the table any longer.
Zhang Qiling was holding the mug; he had somehow gone around to the other side of the bed, moving in that flowing now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t way that never seemed quite human, to sit down cross-legged on the bed by Wu Xie so that their shoulders touched. Huo Daofu snatched his hand away from Wu Xie’s back as if an electrical current might flow through the double contact.
“Wu Xie,” Zhang Qiling said, and then something else so quiet it was inaudible, holding the tea so Wu Xie could drink.
Looking at the open tenderness on that remote, beautiful face, utterly focused on Wu Xie, made Huo Daofu feel as if his flesh was trying to part ways with his bones. It was a pain his medical texts didn’t have a word for, deeper and more primitive than jealousy or resentment.
Wu Xie, getting his breath back, looked sideways at him with one of those sudden grins. “Sorry, Xiao Huo. You’re still out of luck when it comes to watching me die. Maybe next time.”
Huo Daofu’s voice would not quite leave his throat. Instead, Xiao Mei said crossly “Tianzhen-shu, that’s dumb.” Most of her attention was still on her phone screen. “Why would Dr. Huo want to watch you die.”
Wu Xie looked at him, still smiling.
“It’s a long story,” said Huo Daofu, “and it doesn’t matter now.”

He can do whatever he wants, be free of the family business, they’ll take care of him over there. He doesn’t want to go, he doesn't know who they are, but he doesn’t get a say.
So he goes to Germany where the language is strange, the food is strange, the people are strange, and he wants to go home so badly that his teeth ache.
Huo Daofu builds a life for himself, but at the first sign of trouble, years and years and years later, he rents out his apartment to an acquaintance, and flies home.
But.
The language is strange, he doesn’t know the slang, the food is strange, the people are strange.
His family is cold and he still doesn’t get a say. --- Huo Daofu between the end of Tomb of the Sea and when he reappears in Reboot. AKA Huo Daofu learns to care a little.

Notes: another recent entry in the HDF/Bai Haotian post-canon and I love it unreasonably. They both love Wu Xie SO MUCH and it's just taking them OUT. Their subsequent connection is natural and it's funny as hell, the author loves them both and it shows:
"Are you really sure?" Bai Haotian says softly, and Huo Daofu looks up.
"What?"
"About the week."
"At best," he says, then winces. Fuck it. "It'll be three days," he says, loud enough to carry through the bedroom door, "if he keeps pulling these stunts!" There's a muffled noise and some very clear profanity from Pangzi, which Huo Daofu ignores. "See if I care!" he adds, but it's just not the same without Wu Xie there to grin at him, unrepentant.
He can feel Bai Haotian's hand covering his own, just loosely, where it's half curled into a fist against his thigh. He turns his head. The look she gives him is so full of unquestioning kindness, of understanding, he almost has to close his eyes against it.
"I'm sure," he says quietly, not really looking at her. "But he's proven me wrong before."
He can see her nod as she takes that in, and then they just sit there in silence, her hand over his, not moving.

I wish Spike Chunsoft would just go full "Persona" with Danganronpa and milk it with tons of spinoffs.
I'd be there for every goddamn one of them on DAY ONE, you know. Pick your genre! The minute they figured out how to make a decent third-person DR action game with Ultra Despair Girls, that should've opened the floodgates wide IMO. In fact, if you take any given Persona spinoff, I can tell you how easily/naturally they could develop (and I could get super-hyped for) a Danganronpa equivalent.
Danganronpa Arena is SO obvious. It's the MOST obvious spinoff, and it has been sitting there waiting to be creating for seven goddamn years now. Ever since Kodaka said he wants a DR fighting game. Hey, remember that official DR3 Staff Book art that showed Nanami dreaming about it? Many of us have shared fan ideas for the story and/or for character moves. COME ON, y'all. What's the holdup?? DO IT! DO IT NOW!
Danganronpa: Dancing? FUCK YAS. I mean, there's already some wicked dance remixes of the game soundtracks in that Crypt of the Necrodancer DR content, so why the hell not?? And I recall that @dreamrlu did some great fanart (1) for how the (2) V3 crew could dress (3).
Danganronpa Q, a dungeon crawler? Despair Dungeon already exists, so it's COMPLETELY NATURAL. It's just a higher-quality production of that same concept! And if you haven't seen that fanmade version of the first "Persona Q" opening where it's the casts of DR1 and DR2 meeting up? It's AMAZING.

Danganronpa Tactica? Imagine leading squads from the Future Foundation (including DR1 and DR3 cast members) in missions against remaining Remnants of Despair. I've been playing a lot of tactical RPGs lately, and there's a lot of room to tell a ton of story in this format... plus it's not like you even have to make complex graphics to make it work, so SC doesn't have to worry about struggling with 3D renders if they don't want to. Just consider how Digimon Survive pulled this off with 2D sprite art!
Danganronpa Strikers is, uh, maybe the hardest to justify — but if you set it in the virtual world, that could make it easy! Since Danganronpa S already took place entirely in VR and contained a load of combat encounters, why the hell not do a similar setup for an action game? And if you prefer to keep in the real world, there are still a number of characters I could easily justify making playable in such a scenario — Genocide(r), Sakura, Asahina, Mondo, Nekomaru, Peko, Akane, Great Gozu, Seiko, Munakata, Maki, Gonta, etc. I can even picture some more-unlikely candidates such as Kimura slotting into the roster. I don't even like musou games that much, but ofc I'd play the SHIT out of this one.
Look: I know I'm an insatiable fan who just wants more precious content with these characters. But you can't convince me that these things wouldn't also SELL. The brand reached new heights of awareness and sales with V3, and they haven't really capitalized on that at all aside from giving us "Danganronpa S." We haven't even gotten a new anime since DR3, FFS! And I'm confident that any one of the ideas listed above would sell far better than a weird digital board game with RPG combat set inside VR, frankly. :P

THE GLIMM*R ZINE IS AVAILABLE FOR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD TO BACKERS AND IT'S SO GOOD IT'S SOOOOOOOOO GOOD I think it has a good mix of requited/unrequited, mundane/fantasy, literal/figurative (though dreams inherently skew more figurative than literal) (maybe more... a good balance between a 'concrete' implementation of 'dream' in the sleep sense, and 'abstract' implementation of 'dream' as the wish/goal sense?)
all the artists did a great job, I think every single story was complete and satisfying and competently executed (though obviously some of them hit my biases more than others). I can think of positive and unique things to say about each story. so I will.
Midnight Smack by Anna Chen Campbell: The art style is fun and distinct and very expressive, I loved the role reversal of a fantastical creature being in the position of going What The Fuck. Very solid meet-cute!
Dear Nina by Kristina Luu: The story is told through the perspective character reminiscing of the past, which means a nice intimate first(/second) person narration. I really liked the mood whiplash of wistful longing and seething cynicism, the atmosphere is top-notch.
Good Morning, Rose by Rowan Maccoll: I love the dream vibes in this one--it really captures that experience of going along with different scenes that aren't supposed to cohere, disjointed in a way that works for the story. I love how the... not-really-negative space is used during the true form reveal, very atmospheric.
R.E.M. by Jona Li: It's one of the heavier stories because [spoilers] the narrative centers suicidal ideation/suicide attempt, and I think the artist does a good job with emotional nuance; I also like that there's ambiguity whether the subject of the dream is their real self, or a projection of the dreamer. The contrast between hard/soft textures is super arresting.
Merderous by Gabrielle Kari: The first of three illustrations! Alas, the two-page spread is broken up in pdf format... I can't wait to get my physical copy so I can see it in its fully glory... it's got what's clearly an intricate narrative with no context or explanation, so you get to puzzle out your own interpretation if you want, which I liked.
Eternal Waltz by Adeline Kon: EXTREMELY heated drama between women. It has resentment, it has longing, it has separation and bitter reunions, it has violence, and it has a butch woman who's definitely an arrogant fuckboy. I want fifty more comics just like this.
Derailed! by Kimberly Wang: I'm very unfairly biased towards this comic because I've been following this artist for a while and I Love Their Work. Great composition, great expressions, great energy, just all around great stuff (there's also an interview about Of Thunder And Lightning in this zine!). Anyway, they described this comic as "type A hobonichi girlie meets girl who's perpetually late and has no impulse control, who survives", it's very funny and very charming and I knew I'd love it from the very first preview. and I was right. I want fifty more comics of this duo.
The Visitor by Yuchen H: The second illustration, which is also the cover of the zine. The art looks so soft and edible, really captures a dreamy atmosphere. I want to bury my face in those feathers. The pain (and longing...?) for someone ignorant to the impact of their own actions... solid vibes.
One Last Dream by Laura Rovinsky and Ez Carol: The protagonist is an old woman in hospice care, which really grabbed my interest. Despite the heavy premise, it's super sweet and cute and Filled With Joy, and there were a lot of elements I liked (the main character being active in working with the love interest, the main character's waking life being enhanced by the dream, etc). I would love to see more old women protagonists!
Step By Step by Jess Fleming: I liked the maze setup--the artist did cool stuff like the blueprint-to-completed-gardens page, and the atmosphere's very... I think liminal fits best. Also, the impossible status divide between a groundskeeper and a noblewoman who's in an arranged marriage to end a feud, AND the emotional implications of constructing the maze PLUS having to guide the noblewoman to her betrothed? Very good setup for The Longing
Love Everlasting by Ellen Mei: The third and final illustration. VERY clear narrative and VERY heated drama. I love an unethical scientist and I love how Very Definitely Unhappy the android looks about the situation. Sooo tasty and unhinged, nobody's getting out of this unscathed.
anyway, those are my thoughts, must-read for yuri enthusiasts, if you didn't get the chance to back the kickstarter definitely pick up a copy once it's for sale. I love it.

some more ticci toby headcanons
once again consider this a headcanon salad i'm still figuring out how to format these
- in my canon he's from minnesota. he just feels like a minnesotan
- also in my canon he lives in a shoddy little abandoned cabin in the woods (header image is along the lines of what i think it would look like). the mansion still exists he just chooses not to reside there cus he'd much rather have his own space that he can control
- never has the big lights on in his house cus it makes him crazy. instead there's just headless lamps/lanterns/candles strewn all over
- best believe the place is messy as shit. imagine if a 16 year old boy was allowed to be a homeowner. yea pretty fucking vile right
- his place just smells like raw wood and weed you walk in it just slaps you in the face
- all of his clothes have that vague cigarette smell on them
- he smells like pinecones and wet soil (on a good day)
- thinks axe masks the fact that he hardly showers unfortunately
- also thinks just using mouthwash is the same as brushing your teeth unfortunately
- honestly he's just super shit at taking care of himself, especially since his body lacks the tools to queue him in on some stuff
- like how cipa causes him not to feel hunger. he can't recognize when he's hungry so he often goes way too long between meals
- he has a little notebook where he keeps track of when he eats. it's meant to help him know when he should eat something but he consistently forgets to keep up with it
- he just isn't equipped with any of the tools necessary to take care of himself, both physically and mentally. he's in pretty bad shape, some extra help would probably do him good
- realistically with how much he disregards self-preservation he'd be fucking dead by now so he isn't entirely helpless. he knows he's accident-prone so he keeps first aid shit with him at all times, he knows blood means bad and that he should probably stop what he's doing that is making the blood happen, he knows to scan over himself every once in a while to check for unnoticed injuries and such, etc etc.
- cus of the gaping gash in his cheek he has to eat foods that are compatible with his disfigurement. he also always has to drink through a straw
- he does not like waffles. he does like pancakes however
- interestingly those with cipa have a lower sensitivity to capsaicin so he eats spicy stuff like a fuckin CHAMP. someone gave him one of those samyang noodles to try yk the one that's hot as BALLS and he was just like "i mean yea it's good"
- he's kind of just always covered head to toe with bandages. i think he'd have an excoriation (skin picking) disorder so he HAS to keep his arms and hands wrapped up, otherwise he'll just obsessively pick/bite/gnaw at his skin
- the rest of his body is perpetually scattered with bandaids and such on account of how scraped up he gets just being himself
- on the night of The Incident he got caught up in the fire. flaring up his chest and a section of the left side of his body are burn scars. there are a conglomerate of reasons as to why toby doesn't like to have his shirt off in front of ANYBODY and that's just one of them
- his motor tics tend to be on the more violent side (throwing things, hitting himself, hitting others, etc). however, he's learned how to sort of guide his tics from being one thing to another if that makes sense? idk i'm speaking from my own experience here and tics are a really difficult thing to put into words but like. if he can tell he's about to throw the thing that's in his hand he'll take that feeling and try to turn it into something smaller, so instead of throwing the thing a less destructive tic will occur instead. if any of that made sense
- more often than not he's got an earbud in or his headphones on listening to music. he finds that it makes it much easier for him to make his way through the world. that and when he's listening to music he's noticed that he hardly ever tics (usually) so yk that's also a bonus
- spends a lot of his time climbing trees and hanging out in them. also spends a lot of his time trying to make friends with the animals of the forest. he's gotten a lot better at knowing how to approach raccoons and possums and stuff. he likes to leave food out for birds and squirrels and such
- it's funny because he tries to be this hard-ass dude but as soon as he spots a deer he becomes the most gentle thing on earth in that moment. he'd probably grab your shoulders whispering all like "oh dude deer- shhh shh" and force you to crouch with him and stuff lmao
- he's dubbed the one rabbit in those woods that isn't afraid of him "dandy warhol". yea he's real good with names
- he leaves food trails for dandy that lead to his house because he thinks that's how people get pets. he does not realize he's also leading every other animal in that forest to his home
- he may be stupid .

PREDICTIONS FOR [19.99] TRACKLIST
Parents not allowed to watch/Not suitable for parents (Dangerous)
Unsure of the correct English translation of the Korean title, but it's basically a reference to the rating system of media as well as an obvious hint that the song will be about the things teens/young adults do that parents can't find out about. I think this song will be about drinking for the first time, partying for the first time; going out in general. Embarrassing moments that happen when you go out that your parents would be disappointed about if they knew. I think it'll basically be a continuation of "Life is cool".
Stones (Gonna Be A Rock)
I feel like "Stones (Gonna Be A Rock) is going to be a sort of empowerment song where they'll harness the 'stones' that haters throw at them and use it become stronger. I'm not sure if boynextdoor has any haters to begin with, but it just seems like it's a twist on the idea of 'throwing stones at someone' and transforming into a rock that's powerful and reliable. Being a rock for themselves, the group, and their friends. I think it'll be rap-heavy.
SKIT
Considering none of the members wrote for it, it won't contain a rap part, so I think it's going to be a silly pop song about being absolute fucking idiots and not knowing anything about adulthood. A song where the sentiment is to just 'go with the flow and enjoy the ride' and 'don't take life too seriously, have a laugh'.
Nice Guy
Co-written by ZICO, so it'll be super rhythmic, production-heavy, with a fun rap part. Considering it's the title track, I think it'll be a combination of rock and hiphop, a bit like "But Sometimes". Story-wise, it can go two ways in my opinion: it'll either be about the phrase 'nice guys finish last' and how they relate (or not relate) to it, or it'll be about people's perception of yourself. People see you as one thing, but you might be another thing. Figuring out your identity is a big part of growing up, so it could be something they'd discuss in song.

A song about becoming an adult; in Korean age turning twenty. If we can take hints from the concept trailer, we can assume it's a song about the uncertain feelings a teenager has about becoming an adult, wanting to hold onto childhood and innocence, as well as wishing someone can give them all the answers they need to successfully be an adult. If Woonhak is the subject of the song, we might see a back and forth in the verses between him and the other members.
Call Me
A ballad!! I feel it in my gut that it's a ballad! A follow-up of "20" where reality sets in about the complexities and hardships of adulthood. I think it'll be a song about a person reaching out to their friend, urging the friend to call them whenever life gets hard and they need to talk. Call me when you need a shoulder to lean on, call me when you need to laugh or cry or vent. Maybe the song will be in the format of a phone call as well, similar to how "Dear. My Darling" is written in the form of a letter.

I've been keeping up with it since chapter 3 of BATIM- haven't read any of the books sadly but that can be excused right???
ANYWAY
The Cage is supposed to be a look behind the scenes at what happened on the other side of things while Audrey was busy explaining the concept of personal space to Wilson, if I remembee right? Also supposed to be darker and gorrier SUPER EXCITED FOR THAT
Then... in Secrets of the Machine we get teasers for B3ndy and Bendy Silent Town...
I hope B3ndy's gonna pick up on where BATDR left off, Gent taking away the Ink Machine to GOD KNOWS WHERE??? With Bendy now being out in the real world... it begs the question of who the role of big bad and smiling (traumatized, very much traumatized) will fall on... As for who we may play as.... maybe it could be this Riley Wells (hope I got the surname right) character we found out about in Secrets of the Machine? They ended up being a GENT employee so it's not completely out the question? They were employed at Joey Drew Studios before but- got fired because their ideas were too grotesque and dark for Joey's liking (EXCUSE THEM for having trauma you entrepreneur a-hole).
As for Bendy Silent Town... I feel like that game may be a look at mayhaps the genre of Bendy cartoons Riley had scripted? As I said, their ideas were dark. And what is Silent Town? A complete turn to the left at what Bendy games are. Unsure if the hand in the teaser image is Bendy's but- the char has a revolver named Alice FJFJ does that say anything? I dunno! Fjfjfj Getting to shoot cartoon bad guys in a cartoon tho? Aw heck yea! I suck at shooters but I'm willing to try my hand at one if it's Bendy

Anywho- yea it's been over a year YET I'M STILL NOT OVER HOW THE INK DEMON LITERALLY HAD BEEN TORTURED BY THE KEEPERS??? Like- YOU CAN'T JUST THROW THAT AT ME AND NOT EXPECT ME TO WEEP LIKE A BABY- My man's gone through literal hell even before he's been carelessly thrown into the machine "because he was imperfect" my ass, I bet the worst he ever did while in the Real world was walk around and be curious about everything while the only thing decisively threatening about him was his appearance... I was thinking more about like how do you figure out lighting, colour picking and the methods you use to finish up a piece. I was also really curious about your favourite anatomy tips and how you do so many dynamic poses.

HMM lets see: I don't color pick unfortunately, it's not a method I use so I can't help u there sadly. As for lighting and shading, I don't really use any tutorials but I just apply the same types of questions to it that I would to any other part of my work while drawing, which are broad question types like : - where is my light source - is this piece calling for any unique light source? (universal/generic lighting is just fine to keep using!) - how MANY light sources do i have, and what are their distances to my figure - what's the MOOD of the piece, is dramatic lighting necessary - if im just here to have a bop and do an art what light source do I want to play with for practice If it was something like a more polished and finished piece I'd definitely be thinking on these questions harder, or multiple revisions and potential references would be pulled up. But normally for references I just refer to my memory of shows that I've seen, since it's a LOT of visual library, and animated or live action, light source is heavily calculated. So you'll get a good display of these ranges you can apply. Lately I've been watching The Bad Batch and I'll always recommend that and clone wars as good examples of environmental lighting, especially given the style of animation they do with how shapely their figures are. It's a good simplified breakdown of the planes of a figure, so paired with their hard lighting choices u get an even exaggerated easier format to look at for guessing light source. (very reminiscent of comics like the more stylized/cartoon you get in art the more u can push and pull these dynamics. or like easier to spot then live action)
SO UHH, im disclaimer: not in any industry and im sure gonna be missing some terminology, but I just nabbed some random images off the google of bad batch to show case a few broad categories of lighting:
Multiple light sources are ur most common type, and to me the most fun especially when it's like Two light sources. U can often play with the fun lighting types like rim lighting, u often have a warm side and a cold side for contrast/directions sake. The distance of the light determines how sharp or broadly lit something will be, and the size of the light can determine how much of that light hits the figures. So Omega here is surrounded by the lights on their ship, there's likely a very broad top light that's gently lighting the entire area, but the reds and blues of the buttons and screens around her are what's shaping the figure more dramatically. You can see the blue is coming from the top/behind her, where the red is more in front/bottom side to her, since it's the way she's facing and looking at you/the viewer. The second one, still on their ship, features the more broad top down lighting, but the screens in front of them are more important as they're all facing it. both lights in this image are broad wide lighting, so there isn't much of a sharp focus.
COMPLEX LIGHTING to me usually just means 'there are many light sources of greatly varying distances and brightness' or that there's a lot of figures in the image so it's got a lot more to organize so that the whole image may look readable at the end. You get a lot of environmental lighting for these types, meaning like hey the SUN is one of ur major light sources. it is super fucking bright but it is also FAR away, it's lighting EVERYTHING. and closer to sunset/sunrise u get more direct, highly saturated light from it because of the angle it's often shining- there's a lot to play with for just an outdoor lighting! The three images I picked here are a more morning shot, a mid day shot, and an evening shot. Talking about the angle of the sun especially at the last image with the grookey on Omega's shoulder, which casts a shadow over her and her friend. But her friend is positioned in a way so that she's not entirely over shadowed, because we're here to look at all three figures, and their faces matter in this shot. VS the middle images which is more about the scene/setting as a whole, and the figures are all more or less equally lit/shaded according to just standing in bright daylight.
there's also this fun lighting type, singular light sources can usually add a WIDE RANGE of emotion to the piece, depending where you flash the light. You've probably seen tons of light study gifs or shots where a face is shown with one light passing around their entire face and it highlighting the different planes that illuminate based on where the light is. So the first image, the classic Morticia Addams eye drama light, is focused hard on the figures, and what they're looking at. The second image of crosshair is another type of foreboding emotion, but instead with the eyes in the dark. Singular light sources aren't always for drama or asking you to focus on one specific thing but I feel like end of the day, the sharper and closer the one light source is, the more the artist is usually asking you to focus on the scene for. There's also some examples here of multiple light sources being used for the same storytelling dramatic effect. There's crosshair's entire front lit up to focus on not just him but by extension the rifle he's holding, with a backlight to catch the edge of his helmet and the barrel, because those are where we want you to look. They're the most important parts of the image, and they wanted to make lighting appropriate for reading that. With the last image there's what's his face (bro i forget my b) looming over him in a common type of dominant lighting. With how the lighting is assigned to this scene his face is shadowed, vs crosshair's who is partially under that shadow. IDK IM RAMBLING NOW i doubt this is the concise easy to read tips anyone's asking for sorrY I am not a teacher. IN SHORT FOR LIGHTING I JUST think about shows I've watched. I won't go into anymore but I think a GREAT example of super well done lighting in all categories of art are the John Wick films. They're both lively, highly direct, and superficially colored to fit the mood of each character and scene. I'll suck these movies dicks i'm obsessed:
Anatomy I always generically recommend people continue loose study/education from skeletal and muscular anatomy cause if you can build a figure from the inside out, the surface is going to be loads easier. And then when I'm too lazy to look up any muscular break down cause I sure don't remember every part at every angle I kind of just fudge it which is super common, like how many of us draw an ear correctly to it's bends and shapes. I sure as hell don't I just like to draw them the way I'm familiar with lining it (unless it's some really polished piece) cause end of the day my ear is still getting interpreted as an ear. So If I can't recall which muscle overlaps the other given a certain angle I just take a guess and usually it's not something blaring if I threw it down confidently enough. Studying not just muscle though, but how all body types sit and tense and move is crucial. Like fat is obviously going to have a much different type of hang and sit on the body, and then there's deciding how much fat to muscle you want on a figure. There's also skin to consider- older skin is looser, scarred skin has a tighter more custom pull to the areas, skin otherwise is just a big elastic band around ur body. So when that becomes overstretched or cut in any irregular way it's going to have a much different look to the muscles and bones it wraps around. Muscle reference I don't have anything specfic to refer other then using actual anatomy charts. Some 3d modelers have made great reference to body parts with full turn arounds i'd suggest. Since big fantasy muscles can be exaggerated so much (and they should!) it's the only reason why id only Lightly suggest for observing other artists individual drawings of buff characters. cause lotta us are fudging parts and u will end up picking up an incorrect anatomical trait (we literally all do it, just a silly unlearning process once ur hand is so familiar and used to drawing something a certain way) I think something specifically that's really helped me slowly gain a very diverse understanding of the fat to muscle ratio is getting into sumo wrestling. (NOT TO PUSH MY FAVORITE SPORT BUT I HAVE SOURCES IF U WANNA HEAR ABOUT IT/FIND A SPOT TO WATCH) In sumo there's no weight division like other forms of wrestling, and because of that you can have a very diverse set of ways to go about your own style of fighting. Entirely setting aside the fighting STYLES, there's broadly the categories of how much fat do you want to put on and the advantages that has against your opponents, vs how much muscle, or where that muscle needs to build on your figure, height and the like also play into it but basically 'what is my body shape, how can i build/ play it to the advantages of how i fight my opponents'
so like terunofuji is a fucking MOUNTAIN of a man, he's the current yokozuna (top banana rank) and his sheer height and weight plays greatly into his fight style. All of them are fucking jacked and watching Sumo has been a great general visual library builder because: - its a huge sport so it has a lot of coverage and footage on high def cameras - they're mostly nude and you're getting incredible displays of muscles in slow mo as they collide, fight, and throw each other. s2g you'll have an entirely new appreciation for the human body and just how many ways it can shape itself from watching this sport.
Always a ton of fucking leg muscle but Takayasu is one of my faves i gotta show him.
with no weight limitations not only are you seeing all the different levels of weight to fat, but you're getting an excellent display of how fat builds and forms on different people. there is no one way to gain fat, its pretty cool how diverse it can form, where it prefers to store fat, how quickly someone might gain weight vs overtime, genetics, what types of fats you're storing, lots of shit to look up on! this last image is ichinojo vs enho who are like usually one of the biggest and the smallest wrestlers, and both play to their size and shape and have become very high ranked. ANYWAY THIS POST REALLY WENT PLACES HUH idek if i answered the questions right i think i gave more questions back but i tried to touch a little on my thought process and where ive specifically gone in the art study journey. For poses I really don't look up anything I just try to think of the figure and do a lot of preliminary sketches. No i don't have the 'picture a perfect apple in my head' noggin i too suffer from looking at a blurry void when i try to think of shit so yes im hitting a brick wall by not utilizing all the model posing references that are probably out there hsuogjdhk

Oh heck it's past midnight and I didn't do today's OC-tober. I don't have time for an art so let's do some writing. The prompt is "Future" so there's a bunch I could figure out. My Blanksford story spans a lot of years and I don't have any concrete plans for the future of the timeline even though it's technically important for the overarching story.
Well let give this a go...
It's late and I'm gonna ramble so it's probably gonna be pretty long and depending on if I keep any of it would be heavily spoiler-filled so under the cut it goes.
So with a timeline this long I've been thinking for a while that I need to kill one of my main characters at some point. Like technically I don't have to, I've already had them give up their powers so they aren't an immediate threat to the limit of 6 supers, but I do kind of want to. I just don't really know how. Cuz the last time I killed a major character in a story (I won't spoil who, but it was in my Colostle story) I kinda lost all motivation for the story and I couldn't go back on it cuz of the formatting. But this time I can think about it and if I don't like it than I can try again in a different way.
So my first idea a while back was to have Artemis go overboard and accidentally kill a super. Since she doesn't resort to killing despite her role as one of the most dangerous villains it'd be an interesting turn for her. But now with what I've set up with her and Taylor it seems less likely, though still technically possible. But it'd probably only worth it if she kills Taylor, which would be a shame since I like him so freaking much as a character so I probably won't do this.
I could also have Gabby regret giving up their powers, maybe go the vigilante route. Help out Mercury's new Super Wing fight the Y13 & Y14 villains. ...Which does actually make a lot of sense (and would probably motivate me to write some Phase 3 plot points / stories too).
Okay yeah I'll have that be a good starting point. Take the really old idea of Twin & Distress and make it less about Twin being the villain and more about Distress betraying Twin for whoever I make the Y14 villain be. Then Distress and that villain end up kinda strong, so Mercury and Splash can't handle it themselves. They turn to Gabby for help off of Gordon Wheeler's recc. Gabby has another crisis about their powers (or lack thereof this time) and gets pulled back into the drama. And then either Distress or the Y14 villain kills Gabby after they got in the way. And this overstep would definitely bring Artemis and Blank into the drama too, and I'd get a good old-fashion classic superhero war. And all those fight scenes I've been avoiding would get to happen pretty much all at once. And maybe that war takes long enough that the Y15 super emerges and creates even more for everyone to deal with.
Aeri and Gabby's sister Katie would be fucking heartbroken over Gabby's death of course. They both live together at this point and the person who connected them is gone. They'd probably stay together for a while but I imagine Aeri would quickly get overwhelmed without Gabby and leave in some way; whether that's trying to get revenge, or straight up running from D-City, or something else entirely. So Katie would turn to Madi and Taylor, and they're all friends at this point so it'd probably work out. (Assuming I don't mess with the friendship dynamics by this point with what I'm also working on with Taylor and Artemis' storylines, who knows.)
But if I was going to kill off Gabby I'd want to get some good stories in for her send off, so the Y14 villain would probably end up being the fear-based villain that I've been thinking about. For that villain's inspiration don't think Scarecrow (Batman) but more of a villainous reverse Alex Chen (Life is Strange). Although I'm not too studied on scarecrow maybe that's more his vibe than I think. But anyways I'd get to do some AU stuff that takes place in character's heads and Gabby would see some dark timelines and stuff like that.
ACTUALLY... now that I think about it Distress is kind of a weak villain (I haven't even drawn her yet despite having thought of her like 5 years ago), so maybe I skip Distress altogether let the fear villain be the Y13 super. Hell Distress works as a name for a fear villain too, so I could just rewrite my plans for Distress / Twin and I'd get to keep the few things I liked about Distress and make that work out. Cuz ditching Drake really worked out for the story maybe this could work out too.
Okay yeah that works really well! Guess it turns out that forcing yourself to think about the future of your story for an hour and a half really helps you figure out the future of your story. Weird probably could've tried that before at some point.
...now to go to sleep and let a less tired Rachel wake up tomorrow and deal with this long ramble and turn it into actual actionable story beats. Good luck <3

So you know how stories have a timeline and some may cover like two years for example but be only around 2k words. HOW TO DO THATT??!? 😭 I always get stuck in time when I write something. If there is monday then there has to be tuesday and I just can't do a smooth slide to let's say the next week of the story. I really can't figure out how to do smooth time skips. So perhaps you have some tips? 😋💖

firstly, u flatter me hello. best writer on tumblr is complete craziness!!! thank u so much for saying that though, you're very kind :') and i'm honored that you're entrusting this question to me!
secondly, this is all sooooo valid. navigating time is one of my biggest writing challenges among MANY so i'm not really sure i have the solution myself, but i can try to walk you through my process if you think that would help. i'm sorry in advance if it comes across as convoluted as i think it does 😭
instead of chronological, day-to-day accounts, i like to think of my fics as collections of important moments. "important" meaning significant for characterization, relationship progression, worldbuilding, etc. these moments don't usually happen back-to-back, because all change takes time.
if i can reference my own "ace," which i took special care to map out the timing for, about a week passes between every scene for most of the fic. i made it this way because i wanted there to be a lot of implicit development during those weeks; the couple needed to make their transition from acquaintances to lovers in a way that felt natural. but of course the development couldn't all be implicit, so the fic ends up being a collection of important moments that gives the reader just enough information to tag along on their journey. which is why u get scenes like mc taping hyun's hand in the training room, mc running out of the arcade heartbroken, and mc and hyun having a heart-to-heart on the gym floor
you can think of it as planting the seeds in one scene, letting them sprout and blossom "off camera" (aka during the timeskip), and then doing a garden reveal in the following scene. the two scenes are still very much interconnected—they still depict the same people in the same universe in the same storyline—but something about them has changed, and with it the plot has progressed
depending on what kind of story you're writing, consecutive days makes total sense, btw. in "crying lightning," i explicitly point out the timeskips with headers containing new locations and times preceding every scene because it the couple is a stylist/idol pair that travels together often over one year. in "everything has changed," which is probably closest to ur example of 2 years spanning 2k words, two years pass between every scene to place byeol growing up in parallel with felix and mc falling in love. but maybe you're writing, say, a camp counselor au or a zombie apocalypse au, and the characters only have limited time together; the way you'd write about a five-day period would look super different from a six-year period, u get me?
i am SO sorry about how long this got holy fuck i am truly terrible at putting anything about my writing process into words 😭 but TL;DR: 1) think of ur fics as compilations of important moments, 2) ~plant the seeds of change~ in one scene and reveal the end results in the next, and 3) think ab what timeframe/time-related format would work best for ur fic and go from there! your english is perfect btw <3 don't hesitate to lmk if u have any other follow-up comments or questions!

what made you decide to have a go at making zines, and how did you find the process? fun? frustrating? new hobby unlocked?
it's been a lot of fun and is super satisfying to hold a finished booklet in my hand. new hobby unlocked for sure.
in fact i'm going to ramble about it under the cut.
i'd been looking into on and off for over a year, and, frankly, i've been going slowly mad at having normal levels of focus and productivity dangled in front of me, only to be snatched away AND put on bed rest without even jacking off as an outlet.
i did a bunch of painting, but i've run out of canvases and focus. and while i really wanna sculpt, 1) i just haven't gotten my brain to switch to that track, 2) i've only just recently been able to tolerate standing at my usual work counter again, 3) having a small child who wants to mirror everything i do is fun when i'm physically able to handle it, but i am not physically able to handle it. i can do a craft myself OR i can set them up with supervised craft time. not both.
that leaves my writing, but i haven't been able to focus enough to write. so what to do with all my old stuff? may as well take that last leap into making zines! it's also an excuse for me to break out my drawing tablet to make cover art (i'm not good but they're small and it adds to the charm i think).
overall it's been shockingly easy. the hardest part was making a format template, but once i had that figured out i was set. i conveniently already had a laser printer, and considering i can't go anywhere (like a place with a public printer) i wouldn't have been able to do this otherwise.
the most expensive thing i had to buy for this was a nice paper cutter, which was $24. it honestly wasn't necessary. i could have just folded the paper or cut them with scissors, but imo it really goes a long way in making them look nice. i also have a long reach stapler that's made for making booklets and magazines coming in that will be really nice for putting them together neatly and consistently.
i still dont know what i'm going to do with them tbh. i have some friends that are gonna get free copies of their favs, and at least the poetry one i'm going to have out if i'm able to do the craft fairs this year (fuck me i hope i'm better by then), but i need to see what kind of stuff they allow. even if they allow sexually explicit material, i'll probably still leave stories like Red Hot at home.
i could do an online shop for the rest, but i'm not sure where. i already have a kofi account for commissions, and they have a shop feature, but at the same time they say in their TOS they don't allow any form of sexually explicit material. and last i heard about etsy they were being shitty about charging for advertising you didn't opt into. so i'd need to do more research into that.
say what you want about whether or not i should be able to make a profit off of little homemade porn booklets, but i'd at least need enough money to buy the toner for my printer by the time i ran out, which is hella expensive. i think back when i got this thing it was like $70 a pop. it lasts a lot longer than ink but it's more expensive up front.

Happy One Year to Turning Red!
I can't believe it's been a whole year since Turning Red released to the public, that is actually crazy. There are no words for what Turning Red has done for me as a person, but you sure as hell know I'm gonna try to explain 😎
I went into Turning Red as a new University student, at a huge transitional period in my life. I had a whole four friends, and more emotions than I knew how to deal with. I'll never forget the feeling of sitting next to two of my IRL's in my Pixar class, and scream singing Nobody Like U as the credits rolled. It felt like middle school again. It felt great to be Canadian, and neurodivergent, and queer, and it felt especially great to be in fandom.
I knew from the moment I walked out of that room that I was going to write fic for 4*Town. I'm a sucker for a boy band, it was bound to happen, but God, I didn't know what was going to become of it. I thought I'd write one or two fics and move on to the next fandom, you know?
I wrote You Know What's Up (It's Us), and about halfway through I had another idea for a fic. It was a commitment, a 15000 word monstrosity that took a month's worth of planning and writing, but finishing it meant the world. To this day, I've never been so nervous to publish a fic.
The plane crash fic changed everything for me, because now I had a universe to play with, not just an interpretation of some characters, so I sat down to work out how everything worked. I created a story spanning from 1995-2014, and chipped away at little moments from it. There was the beach music video, that time Aaron T got kidnapped, that time Jesse got in a car accident, all little snapshots and character studies that were part of something bigger.
I've been wanting to tell the whole story for a while now. There are so many aspects of it that I've been so excited to share, but for a while I just... didn't know how.
I know I haven't been posting fics like I used to, but I promise it was for a reason. I've mentioned a super secret project a couple of times now, and I think today is as good as any to reveal what that is. I've been working on it since July for fuck's sake 😭 It's been killing me not talking about it.
But first! I want to say that the thing I'm most grateful for from this whole thing is meeting @5town and @wondero28. I love both of you so much, and you've really made this community a home for me. Thank you for putting up with my bullshit 🫶🫶
Now without further ado, have a teaser, a sneak peek, a tiny glimpse at 4*Town: The World's Most Tragic Boy Band
A documentary on 4*Town's career spanning from 1995-2004, and taking place 10 years after they officially disband. The boys talk about the things they've gone through year by year, with behind the scenes footage from their tours, music videos, and rehearsals.
The current plan is to finish the damn thing (💀) and then release each year one at a time with releases twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, which means the whole thing will be out over the course of five weeks. The format is... to be determined. I have a feeling formatting this for AO3 is going to be hell, but I'll figure it out!
So yeah! That's the super secret project! I'm so excited to show you all the whole thing, because I'm really, really proud of it!

A Trope I Need To Happen
Our Flag Means Death really changed the game. Instead of us wondering if the two male leads would or wouldn't... they did. Every shipper's dream come to life.
But I think I can do one better. Let's take a show formatted like Supernatural, Teen Wolf, etc. Episodic. Supernatural element. Though it doesn't have to have super powers.
The dynamic that is most important to this is Tall, Dark, and Brooding (with powers) and the Sarcastic One (human). Cool? Cool. So they have that dynamic where they always end up together whether they like it or not. Solving mysteries thanks to Sarcastic's brain and TDB being able to be the muscle. TDB saving Sarcastic's ass and Sarcastic attempting to do the same.
They argue a lot. Par for the course with them. It's the perfect set up for shipping characters like this with the will-they-won't-they. We've seen this before.
But... BUT this is where I would change it.
Let's say something goes awry with the monster of the week. It's dangerous and harrowing and both characters barely make it out. They're roughed up and bruised, but alive.
But TDB didn't stick to the plan. And Sarcastic put their neck on the line for TDB - specifically when he didn't ask. So they argue. They bicker usually, sure. But this time they REALLY argue. It's heated. They're angry for the aforementioned reasons. TDB is so fucking reckless and self-sacrificial. Sarcastic thinks he's impervious and he's fucking not. TDB should have just stuck to the fucking plan like they talked about. They're in each other's faces. They're both pissed.
And just when you think one is going to swing on each other, they kiss instead.
It's rough. It's bruising. It's needy. It's urgent.
And then, one heated kiss leads to another. Until these two characters have blush-worthy sex.
Fingertips sinking into skin. Tearing at each others clothes. Shared breaths. Roughness smoothing into softness.
They fuck like they kiss. They scare and shock themselves with how badly they wanted the other. It's hot.
End episode.
And then I think this is where the interesting shift would happen.
We as the audience know that these characters shared an intimate moment. And of course they are very aware of this.
But none of the other characters are aware.
And they don't talk about it for several episodes.
The other characters notice the shift, but they can't figure out what the heck happened.
We as the audience wonder if their romp was a fever dream. It happened out of nowhere. Did it really happen? But of course it did. It's not swept under the rug. It becomes quite obvious in the way they interact with one another.
TDB and Sarcastic don't bicker as much. Even if they argue, there's no heat behind it. Or if there is the heat fizzles very quickly and it becomes awkward. They quickly remember what happened the last time they argued and neither of them know how to address it or talk about it.
Will they talk about it? Eventually. But in the meantime, we feel their tension. Their awkwardness.
And because the will-they-won't-they aspect is out of the way, we see characters that deal with the aftermath. What that means for them. Their feelings. And their slow drift what they mean to one another.
With their feelings known (since they were eager, willing participants, after all) then the focus becomes 'Well, DO they like each other?'
Arguing was easy. But this kind of intimacy is brand new to both of them.

But I don't regret it at all. ...Do you? Sarcastic: .... No. And they share a lot of soft moments as they figure each other out. They touch each other a little more freely. Sarcastic is the touch-as-a-love-language type and touches TDB much more often. And TDB doesn't stop them. They take care of each other more openly. Not just when something is going on but the little things.
Getting the other's favorite food. Texting more often and finding themselves happier for it. Watching movies. Reminding each other to eat and take breaks...
Make the drift towards sex fast, but watch them slowly and openly fall in love when all is said and done.

Okay, im gonna preface this by saying that i normally post these directly after watching, so the chaos no context makes a little bit more sense but i was way too tired to deal with uploading after the ep last night... reading it back.... i DID enjoy the episode and did think it was a good one! props to director Aisha. i just think that *between* the eps this season, they keep flitting back and fourth between the style of how they're executing adding in new unsubs/connections to gold star/whatever and my brain can't follow it sometimes (esp at 2 in the morning when i'm getting tired lol).
Alright, considering I normally stay up til the crack of dawn something about making me stay up til 2am for these eps makes me exhausted. I blame the heat. Here we go!
I know that the format of the show is to keep us connected with individual ep unsubs, but none of us CARE. Either make us fully invested in the gold star/north star shit, OR make it the back seat story arc while these new unsubs are suddenly the bau’s focus like they did in the last season!!!

Okay, so let me ramble abt making the last comic, cause that was an absolute behemoth to work on, and I have a lot of thoughts in my head. Man, I don't know how those webtoon artists do it every week. They scare me now.
This is super long btw, so get cozy if you want to read :]
Starting off, I actually got this idea from my lil 'ol diary I keep by my tableside :] I like writing down what I feel so I can see it in a more concrete(?) manner, helps me cope i think. One time, I really did cry for someone because I guess I just really liked them a lot. Having crushes is fun, but catching feelings isn't.
I always get this giddy feeling of being head over heels for someone. Every interaction is so exciting. Intoxicating even. And I couldn't get enough of it, but after that few seconds of bliss I immediately think to myself that all these scenarios in my head will never happen, not in a million fucking years. I just preemptively reject myself without ever telling the person what I feel. I know what the outcome will be anyway, and I'm afraid of what will happen if I did say anything. It's just too risky.
The second half is completely made up tho, I will never ever kidnap someone... unless? (For legal reasons, I will have to clarify that this is a joke, Thank you.)
Now onto the comic itself!
The composition is probably the easiest and the most fun part. I love, love, love, how versatile you can be in the webtoon format. Figuring out how to transition the panels is super fun, and it sucks that most of the webcomics I see on tapas or webtoon, etc. are just sticking to those boring box formulas over and over again when it has so much potential, although there are exceptions like, for example, Lore Olympus. While it has it's fair share of flaws when in comes to other aspects, you can't deny the artist's talent esp when it comes to knowing how to place the character in an illustration, (again) the compositioning etc etc. (ep. 8 is p good. They stick to the box stuff during dialogue but gets more experimental in some parts. I haven't been keeping up with it, so idk any other good eps)
One of my only big regrets is that I wish I had made the space between the '...but I love it." and "And soon..." parts longer. I think it changed scenarios way too fast and your eye immediately moves onto the next piece of text,, but eh, it is what it is, and I can't be bothered to edit it so ig I gotta learn to live with it.
It's still messy in,, a lot of parts actually, and I still can't do lineart to save my life, but i kinda tried just cleaning up the sketches instead???? I mean, it kinda works, but it isn't really smooth so,, And there are small mistakes here and there that I could've fixed or colored stuff in properly or whatever. But at that point, I'm just done with it. No more. Am tired and want to draw other shit now. Maybe boobs n dicks n pussy-

I also really want to make a full on nsfw one, like gut rearranging, carnal fucking, hardcore banging,, ok ill stop. But I do need to do more,, uh, "research" on that,, i swear it's research, i have no clue how im gonna draw it. Hell, I already struggle with drawing people fucking and imagine adding cool transitions to that. Guess even my masochistic tendencies extend to this shit too.
And I think that's pretty much it? I'll probably just stick to b and w or monotone with a few accent colors because i just know that it would break me if i did a fully colored one.

Baseless Speculation & Things That'd Be Cool If They Happened In Metroid Prime 4
Was struggling to figure out how to title this, because "My Vision(s) for Metroid Prime 4" or "My Predictions for Metroid Prime 4" weren't quite... Accurate. One comes off incredibly pretentious, and the other assumes I have a basis for any of this, so then I settled on "What I'd Do If I Was Writing Metroid Prime 4" but then realized I would probably not because I'd have like all of the official lore at my disposal and know everything about Sylux and all that, so now we just have this. I probably could've gotten a snappier title.
I've mentioned a couple times that I wanted to make a post detailing a bunch of baseless speculation of what could happen in Metroid Prime 4 or what I think would be cool if it happened in Metroid Prime 4, this will be that, and it's probably going to be even longer than Everything You Need to Know for Metroid Prime 4, which I will be referencing multiple times because I meant it to be context for this specific post when I wrote it. And also the better purpose of getting people up to speed on all the info we have. Please read that first, because I will not be elaborating on things like why I like the idea that Prime 4 takes place after Super Metroid and built several other ideas off of that assumption, and also because making you read both gives me more Notes.
I'm just gonna go through ideas I've mentioned in previous posts and write them out in the order I have them written down in my notes I took for this, and see where we go from there. I will not be linking those posts, because... I made a LOT of them, and I'm lazy. You don't need to look for them, you aren't really missing anything, I'll make sure I don't skip over anything.
In Case It Isn't Obvious, If Weavel Isn't In MP4 I Will Cry
I probably won't, actually, I'm sure the game will be great even if Sylux is the only one returning. But... Please, Retro. Please. We have a Hunters rival who hates Samus teaming up with the Space Pirates, the faction containing another Hunters rival who also hates Samus. And is also awesome. Weavel even fits with the theme of Space Pirate bosses being mechanically augmented that the Prime games have, for some reason. Am I just going insane, or is that really a thing they kept doing? Meta Ridley, the Elite Pirates, the Omega Pirate, the fucking unused Meta Kraid, Weavel, I can't tell for Berserker Lords actually but they got Phazoned so I assume there was some machinery involved, Omega Ridley, even fucking Master Brain? I'm not pulling up the entire list to keep going. In case you can't tell, I can't help but ramble. Get used to this format. Wait, no, it'd be a writing style.
For some reason I haven't really... Thought about how Sylux will be executed, I think my subconscious doesn't want to get stuck with a headcanon characterization that is completely destroyed by Prime 4 but I'm so attached to the conceptualization that it ruins the entire thing, though I realize now that I am doing this right now with Weavel. Let me explain. (Also, basically anything I would write about Sylux would be just shamelessly lifted from posts I've reblogged instead of my original ideas, so...)
If they make Weavel & Sylux just... Two rival characters on the same team, it'd get stale, right? Even with different personalities, it's just two Space Pirate allies with names instead of one in Prime 4 that ultimately could probably be interchangeable in the plot. So, what if, instead, Weavel and Sylux are enemies?
I doubt the Space Pirates are particularly strict on their recruiting process, just sign a paper saying you hate the Galactic Federation and you're in, and Sylux is the biggest hater, he hates the way that they walk, the way that they talk and even stole Federation equipment, so he's obviously let in. But Weavel and Sylux were both trying to get the Ultimate Power in Hunters, so Weavel could have some grudge against him, and it could go even further, like if Sylux assumes some kind of unofficial high-up position somehow and gets the general Space Pirate crew to follow his words then that'd piss Weavel off, or if they remember how Dark Samus took over the entire operation in Prime 3 Weavel could see some resemblance between the two that troubles them greatly.
In the trailer, you can see a Space Pirate shooting at other Space Pirates. Imagine if there's two factions: Some that follow Sylux, and some that don't follow him, which is either led by Weavel or just represented by him. You would probably still fight Weavel a couple times, probably about as many fights as Sylux to get both sides even, but I'd think that in the end even though Weavel's entire backstory is almost being killed by Samus I think that Weavel could feasibly team up with Samus in the climax to kill Sylux and get the Space Pirate regime back in order and then resume the rivalry afterwards. Or they start dating, I don't know.
I have more to say on Weavel & Samus teaming up later, actually, but it wouldn't make sense yet, so just... Keep that in mind.
While We're Here, The Other Hunters (Besides Trace)
I have actually no idea how they could be relevant for the main story. Maybe each map sector corresponds to a Hunters rival? Like, a snowy area has Noxus, a rocky area has Spire, etc. and you only really fight them once. But, like, we don't really have enough to work with for me to figure out how they'd be relevant beyond just being there for fanservice.
Besides for the final boss encounter. Remember how in Hunters, the final showdown was Gorea stealing everyone's abilities when they were trying to team up on it? Imagine this time it's Samus and every other hunter teaming up on Sylux, who has gone completely over the line and angered everybody. Would that not be fucking awesome? They could even bring back the thing Gorea's first phase did in with it's theme having each hunter's battle motif in it. Maybe Samus has to actually recruit all of them to help her stop Sylux from bombing the GF headquarters or something. That'd be neat.
Also, Here's Why I Singled Out Trace Just A Second Ago
Complete side note, Trace has my least favorite of all Hunters rival battle themes. Which sucks, because he's my favorite of the six Hunters hunters.
Okay, so, I have no idea where this info is from and I'm too lazy to research it, but on the Metroid wiki I use it's mentioned that the Kriken Empire, the species Trace represents, is such a menace that the Galactic Federation and Space Pirates would hypothetically team up to eradicate them if the need arose. That... Is such a plot point. You can't fucking say that. You can't just fucking say that and not go anywhere with it ever.
That, and the entire thing with Kriken at a certain age being sent to claim a planet for the empire, and imagine that the actual plot beyond Sylux & the Space Pirates is that the Prime 4 planet has been claimed by Trace, who moved on after Hunters to look for something else, and you have to stop the Kriken from destroying everything, almost like the Ing, with the final boss (or at least final boss relevant to this story arc) being the Queen Kriken or something.
And imagine how PISSED Sylux would be to learn that the Space Pirates teamed up with the GF to exterminate the Kriken after he already joined the pirates. I assume it's not unfounded to claim he'd side with the Kriken, just out of spite. So I guess it'd be Samus & Weavel versus Sylux & Trace.
Wait, hold on, you see Noxus & Trace fighting in Hunters, so Noxus would probably join forces with Samus to stop the Kriken if they're a major plot point as a callback to that, so then... Uh... Kanden gives me literally nothing to go off of, even if they're the obvious choice for member 3 of the evil squad, but I think it'd be interesting if Spire is tricked into joining the bad guys who claim that the Chozo equivalent on this planet were actually the Diamonts and they've uncovered the truth about their fate and will tell Spire if he helps them or some shit like that.
I Don't Want Ridley To Be Immortal, But
I know that Prime 4 is like, the perfect opportunity for Ridley to make a comeback after the franchise's content drought, but like, also, it just being another Meta Ridley would be boring as fuck. So, here's some more interesting ideas they could do, that also work with the idea that he was killed off in Super Metroid.
First one. Remember how in Zero Mission, the final boss was Mecha Ridley? An UNFINISHED Mecha Ridley? If Ridley was dead for real, or they thought he was or something, then as some kind of tribute or replacement, I could see the Space Pirates trying to finish one. Maybe it'd be that one design from Omega Ridley concept art that is currently my most popular post.
But that's kind of boring. Imagine this. You remember how in Other M we saw Ridley's life cycle? It's such wasted potential to just leave that as an Other M thing. Imagine wandering through Space Pirate facilities on the Prime 4 planet only to find some kind of terrarium for animals. And there's one that has like 7 Little Birdies in them. Would that not be the most startling, horrible thing the series could ever do? Ever?
Of course, it wouldn't be an immediate jumpscare to a newcomer, or Samus who probably hasn't gone through Other M in this continuity (yet?), until a fucking Mystery Creature boss fight (Probably without the weird gimmick Other M's encounter had) where you see one pop out of the Little Birdie husk and immediately see that these are baby Ridleys. Samus would be going out of her way to blow this planet up after that, right? You can't just fucking leave those here.
The obvious thing to do from there would be to have a fully-grown Space Dragon as a late-game boss after more Little Birdies escaped, but I think it'd be more interesting if they just blew the place up and didn't do that. Make you feel like you really just averted a catastrophe.
We Can Bring Back The Other Guys, Though
I think it's become common knowledge that Meta Kraid was a planned thing for Prime 1, and I've seen at least one person say that if Kraid came back for no reason in Dread, he can come back in Prime 4. I'm not... Too sure about this, even if it would be cool, because I don't know if they'd want to have him show up two games in a row, and also, if Prime 4 takes place after Federation Force and not after Super, then why the fuck would he need to get the mecha stuff on him? He got a beating back in Zero Mission, yea, but the Prime games take place over the course of several years, FF specifically taking place years after Prime 3 which is the end of the trilogy that I assume doesn't happen over the course of a single month, and I also vaguely remember reading that Prime 1 takes place years after ZM. But, then again, it takes Ridley until Super Metroid's intro to drop his cybernetics, so I dunno.
Or Kraid just shows up completely normally, I don't fucking know. What I do want to see, if he does show up, is him being characterized as a complete buffoon. I want Ridley to be the smart one of the duo, while Kraid is the Space Pirate Patrick Star, and that's the reason he wasn't there for any of the Prime games up until this point, the higher-ups in the crew didn't want Kraid to fuck anything up.
But it'd be more interesting to bring back the other 2 guardian bosses from Super Metroid. Phantoon already came back in Other M as the final boss, but Other M is Other M, so they deserve better. To keep up the assumed theme of Meta bosses, maybe this is some kind of hologram of Phantoon instead of the real one? Since they're not physical? So it'd be Holotoon? Phantogram? It's probably hard to wrangle an extradimensional ghost thing to weld metal onto it, so this is the best I got. (Also, I just tried to find out if Phantoon had some kind of established origin story and there are 3 different official sources contradicting each other, so never fucking mind I guess.)
And, of course, one of my favorite ideas for all of this because of how funny it'd be. Imagine this: You're wandering through an abandoned Space Pirate facility. There are logs describing that new cybernetics have been built for one of "the bosses", as in leaders. You can see some of the blueprints for them. You wander around, and eventually a cutscene begins. You hear the first few notes of Ridley's theme kick in... It's META DRAYGON INSTEAD, BECAUSE DRAYGON AND RIDLEY SHARED BOSS THEMES IN SUPER.
And Also The Less Important Guys
One of the Prime 3 guys made concept art for a Crocomire redesign at some point, but specifically stated it was never intended for Prime 3. If you just... Have that laying around... Free boss.
And I was going to dedicate a paragraph to talking about Serris being a really cool idea for a returning boss, but then remembered I got that idea from a reblog of someone else's post (which was a reblog of my own post but), so, uh, whoops.
And here's another idea I had just because it was really funny. Imagine the final boss is set up to be Sylux, and there's this dramatic cutscene where him and Samus give each other one final stare-down before the final fight... Projectiles from off screen fly in out of nowhere, instantly headshotting Sylux and killing him. You look up, and it's ANOTHER GOREA, here to be an out-of-nowhere final boss again. In all seriousness, I do think there's a lot of potential for lore with Gorea if they were to have another appear, and if Sylux came back, then, you know... Mmmaybe. Probably not, though.
Mochtroids Are Cool
We saw Mochtroids in the trailer, but they're just weak Metroid clones, so they're almost definitely going to do something more with them than what we've seen in Maridia. I hope. But what exactly can you do with them? Obvious, what they did to make the Metroids more interesting in Metroid 2. Evolved Mochtroids.
Fusion, for a couple seconds, showed that there was a planet right next to SR388 that the Metroid wiki gave the original name of SR387. I imagine the Space Pirates would rather try and take over a planet where the main threat is the Feds and not the vampire jellyfish creatures, but this brings the added bonus that the conditions might be right to allow Metroids & Mochtroids to grow up like they do on SR388.
But, of course, Mochtroids are failed Metroid clones that look different from the actual Metroids, so if they did grow up, I imagine the difference would get bigger and bigger and more grotesque until the Queen Mochtroid is a total abomination. There's this one obscure Metroid, "Metroid=Mutant", from some weird non-canon Metroid book thing, that is absolutely hideous, and I love it, if they do evolved Mochtroids I want them to look like this, and I will not be satisfied any other way.
I feel like I'm staring Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep in the eye, here. It's horrific. And it's beautiful.
If they wanted to make the final boss not Sylux (I typed Ylud instead oops, I'm remembering this for if I ever need to name a Metroid OC) or a big Space Pirate, and don't introduce anything we haven't already seen in the trailer, I want that final boss to either be Sylux's Metroid from FF all grown up into a Queen Metroid, or whatever the final stage of Mochtroid evolution is. A Queen Mochtroid would perfectly fit the theme of Prime final bosses being affronts to god. Master Brain doesn't count.
Also, we've already seen that Metroids exposed to Phazon develop a completely different life cycle, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mochtroids, even without being exposed to living uranium, just completely go a separate direction from Metroids and become a giant, horrible abomination like Metroid=Mutant instead of a dinosaur or Metroid Prime. Or they go the wackiest direction possible and bring back the Humetroid from old Metroid Prime 2 concept art.
This bothers me so, so much, that this is a thing that almost existed. It can't have been early Dark Samus, right? Going off memory, it doesn't match up with the hand at the end of Prime 1, so... What the fuck is this? It came from an entirely different pitch for Prime 2, as well, that had nothing to do with Aether or Phazon, AND IT WAS MEANT TO BE A PLAYABLE CHARACTER. Sorry for the tangent, I just... I can't stop thinking about this. I need to tell somebody about this if I want any level of relief, like it's Smile Dog or something.
Oh, right, one more thing, I saw somebody say that it'd be cool if you had a double battle with Sylux and his Metroid from FF, grown up to a Zeta or Omega Metroid, and my first thought was that Samus brings in her own abomination for the double battle, and my second idea (The first was Weavel) was that Samus brings in an evolved Mochtroid that she tamed like with Metroid 2. She'd probably go in alone, though, and she'd win, but it'd be really cool if she, like, RODE IN on a Queen Mochtroid.
I Almost Forgot The Setting For A Moment
Okay, so, I already mentioned that it'd be cool if this planet was SR387, but I have a couple more notes about it. First one is the quickest one, imagine that trailer shot of the giant tree repeating later in the game but the giant tree is on fire after escaping from it or something. That'd be so cool, right?
Another thing I thought about is, with that time traveling gimmick (Please, Retro, it would be so cool), whatever Chozo equivalent this planet has, you could actually meet them if you go to the past. The Luminoth were special because they were on the verge of extinction and you got to actually interact with them and save them, these could be special because they WERE extinct and you STILL get to actually interact with them and somehow save them with time travel.
There could be an interesting story beat & character arc there where Samus recognizes that she just saved the day and an entire species with time travel, so if she really wanted to, if she could actually get her hands on the tech and bring it anywhere, could she save the Chozo? Could she save her family? Could she save Rundas, Ghor and Gandrayda? Could she save Zebes, and Adam (If Prime 4 is after Super it could hypothetically be after Other M, or OM gets retconned but Adam is still dead by now or he dies in this game's plotline), and everyone/everything else? But, of course, she can't rewrite all of history, which probably fucks with her a bit and she has to accept that what's happened has already happened and she still can't change that or whatever.
Another thing, you know the black hole logo for Prime 4, right? I found out recently that, apparently, in the prequel manga or something, the Space Pirates first invaded Zebes by breaking the forcefield around it with A MICRO BLACK HOLE. And, if you saw my Meet the Space Dragons post, you'll remember I was shocked to find out that Greed, Ridley's brother or whatever in a separate non-canon manga, tried to spawn in a black hole only for a ghost to disembowel him or something. We now have a complete lunatic working with the Space Pirates who has a massive grudge on the Federation, and the last game in the Prime series was the Pirates trying to mount a direct attack on the Feds. And Prime 3 was also a war between the GF and Space Pirates. Black hole generator. Launch it at Earth. Have it backfire on the Pirates & Sylux, or Samus goes back in time to prevent it, or there's some kind of time loop thing where each time it hits then Samus is sent back to the start of the loop, or the black hole is somehow how Samus time travels (She falls in and gets sent to the past?), shit like that.
But now for my favorite idea out of all of this: The reason there's a GF research facility here, and the reason the Space Pirates are sieging the planet, is because there's the remains of a Leviathan here, and the Pirates are desperate to get Phazon back. But, after the destruction of Phaaze, the Phazon's gone, so now it's just one giant carcass filled with dying animals that only survived because of Phazon and all sorts of carrion eaters, and there could even be a boss that's like a dying Metroid Prime struggling to sustain itself after all of this started, and it looks like it's going to have the second phase from Prime 1 but it just dissolves into like... A blob... Instead of the floating face, and it's basically just every slime boss ever from there.
Maybe you could even go on like a docked Space Pirate ship or something and find logs that show it was experimenting with Phazon like the Frigate Orpheon, and started freaking out when all of the Phazon disappeared after Phaaze's destruction, which is why they're desperately looking for more. Maybe they were on the verge of SOMETHING BIG. Maybe a Mochtroid Prime? A Little Birdie or Mystery Creature they were trying to manipulate with Phazon to become even stronger than Omega Ridley before they even grow up all the way? Whatever they were working on, you probably fight what's left, because of course you do, who wouldn't make it a boss?
Another, less interesting (to me) idea, I saw someone theorize the Prime 4 planet is Sylux's homeworld of Cylosis, and if the GF has a presence there it'd make sense Sylux would bring in the Space Pirates to try and reclaim it. Sure, you could go places with that, but... Dead Leviathan is so much cooler. You could do both ideas at once, actually, but you know what I mean.
Actually, it could be neat if modern Cylosis is that rocky, lifeless landscape you see in the intro of the trailer and the snowy wasteland seen in Sylux's Hunters intro, but the past Cylosis is the beautiful giant tree land- Wait, jesus christ, if there's a dead Leviathan on the planet with time travel, then you could go back in time to before Phazon was destroyed, oh jesus christ.
I Don't Have A Fun Name For The Federation Heading
If the Federation Force comes back, they could be interesting when fleshed out as actual characters, especially if Prime 4 leans into the GF having a shadier side. Would they side with the GF, even when it's revealed they're up to something fucked and the FF are forwarding that agenda? Would they go rogue, like Samus does in Fusion? Would you have to fight them at some point? What if one of them turns out to be another Deleter? What if they die trying to stop the Federation from doing something, and that's why they never came up afain?
Maybe the Space Pirates steal the black hole generator I talked about earlier from the GF research facility they're raiding in the trailer. I dunno, they might just be raiding it for the hell of it or to just generally attack the GF and claim the planet. Maybe Sylux chose this place because he knew this specific facility contains something that, if unveiled, will tarnish the Feds' reputation. Or it's the same place he took his gear from. Probably not, since he's had it since at least Hunters, but I'm just throwing that out there.
Conclusion
If Metroid Prime 4 disappoints me, I will instantly become one of the most prolific Metroid fanfiction writers of all time just from writing ideas for how Metroid Prime 4's story could've been better, or some different story that would've been better than what we got, all out of spite due to being let down by my most anticipated game of all time, and I am just as terrified of this happening as you are.
I'm sorry for rambling so much all the time, it probably makes these posts incredibly hard to follow, but I specifically made this post to ramble instead of make a point or explain things like my other posts do, so I think I get a pass on this one.
I don't know why I keep making Conclusion headings on these posts when I don't ever have an actual point to make at the end.
