Hello, everyone! Welcome to the Buddie 2024 Rewatch to spread some positivity!! Buck & Eddie: 5x14 “Dumb Luck” vs. 6x15 “Death & Taxes” - Parallels

There are so many similarities between 5x14 and 6x15 with regards to Buck and Eddie including their wardrobes but the most important thing to notice is their roles have now been reversed.

In the top GIF for 5x14, Buck was on the left of the screen (Eddie’s right) but in 6x15, Eddie was on the left of the screen (Buck’s right). In those moments, the one to the right of the other one was the one who was NOT going through a traumatic experience but they were there to love, comfort, support and care for the other one.

In 5x14, Eddie had just experienced his mental breakdown in 5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia” and Buck was there to help him pick up the pieces and clean up his mess.  He took Eddie and Chris to Equine Therapy so Eddie could see Charlie again the boy they saved on the day Eddie was shot by a sniper.  Eddie’s appearance looked rough.  He had a five o’clock shadow combined with deep dark circles and bags underneath his eyes.

In 6x15, Buck died for three minutes and seventeen seconds in 6x10 “In a Flash” and Eddie was there to restart his heart (Eddie’s heart) and to tell the doctors to “Do More” when they wheeled Buck into emergency.  Buck had his own five o’clock shadow that he’s been wearing more often except for when he’s at work. He’s usually very put together but lately he looks untethered because whenever he’s not at work, he looks like he’s struggling and hanging on by a thread.  Compare Eddie’s appearance from 5x14 with Buck’s in 6x15 all the way down to their clothing and the reversal of their roles is unmistakable.

Their comments were parallels too since both of them had a difficult time figuring out who they were after their traumatic experiences along with where they were headed.  Buck said, “The truth is... I still don’t know how to act.  I am different but I feel like I have to try and be the same old Buck... mostly for the sake of everyone else” and it parallels with Eddie’s comment of “That I’m never going to feel normal again” from 5x13 after Buck asked him “What are you afraid of?”.

There is one difference that offers a little more insight into their journey.  In 5x14 they were walking towards HAPPINESS together.  After Buck recounted all the things they did to save Charlie from his mother on the day Eddie was shot he said, “But if it’s all just random then...”  and Eddie interrupted him and replied, “It’s still the right thing to do”.  Then Buck pointed to Charlie and after he explained the way Charlie lives with his aunt and uncle, Eddie said, “He looks happy”.  But in 6x15, they were standing in a cemetery in front of a grave for Marie who had recently died. Eddie said, “We’re all going to die alone” (which IS NOT TRUE FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE STANDING NEXT TO EACH OTHER) and when Buck gave him a shocked look, Eddie continued with “That’s what she said to me and Hen”.  Then Buck said, “Yes and no. I-I mean she got to see all her friends and family before she went”.  Their comments illustrate how they’re lives are on the same path especially since Buck has been searching for happiness for the duration of season 6 and Eddie admitted to Pepa he didn’t want to be alone anymore in 6x14 “Performance Anxiety”.

Their lives are so intertwined that it makes sense they are the only ones who could be there for the other one. Now that Eddie’s mess has been cleaned up, it’s his turn to help Buck clean up his own mess and as the episodes continue, it looks like Buck’s mess could be stock piling to be cataclysmic in nature.  He’ll have to realize Eddie is his person and he’s the only one WHO TRULY SEES AND KNOWS HIM the same way Eddie knows Buck’s his person and he’s the only one who truly sees and knows him too.

Will Buck realize it before something else happens?  Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question.

Your ask about Buck's storytelling problem makes me realized that Buck is, as Season 4 starts, is heavily featured in quite a lot of things. Those who commonly complain that "It's not a Buddie show!" is kind of inaccurate tbh, because the show is turning into "The BUCK show" without TPTB's capacity in planning continuous arcs that makes sense. I've seen more and more people frustrated with Buck's story including you because of this. since people are really tired of waiting for him to grow only for that to not happen.

Did Buck really need to be the one investigating Sue's accident? No. But it was an opportunity to show that he and TayKay were forming a "friendship" (that would soon lead to something more). The treasure hunt was a pretty fun episode, right? But we needed a separate scene of BT at Bathena's because...? The audience had to be misled into thinking they weren't gonna cross that line again? As a Buddie fan, I'd never complain about Buck going with Eddie to Charlie's and then witnessing the shooting, but the next episode? Did we really have to sacrifice Eddie's recovery process so BT could start a relationship right then? Chimney mentally/emotionally breaking without Maddie became an excuse to feel sorry for Buck because he got punched in the face :( (that's sarcasm!) And then the Chimney+Bobby/Chimney+Eddie scenes prior to Chimney's departure were cut so the story could focus on how Buck was feeling, and giving Buck reassurance that he didn't fuck anything up. Ghost Stories set up Past Is Prologue (because we really needed an episode dedicated to TayKay's childhood...would love to know what the hell was going on bts when KR thought the easiest option was to give a side character she was planning on writing out a solo storyline...) Then we had episodes like 5x11, 5x13, and 5x14 where, as a Buddie fan I enjoyed those scenes, but I can see how it would feel like too much when we were also witnessing BT hanging on by a thread and the BL interactions (which were less than what we were supposed to get, mind you). Flash forward to s6 and we've seen Buck in his feelings over not being interim captain; being the one most affected by Lev's death to kick off the "yes to possibilities" mindset that brought him to the sperm donor request, going to Hen for advice about C&K, the sperm donor thing coming back in 6x07 (multiple scenes discussing it), Uncle Buck being prioritized over Madney house hunting instead of them getting a one minute montage, even. Uncle Buck at Madney's just because people want more of that. Hen and...Buck at the renaissance fair. The 118 on the phone to...talk about Buck. 911blr is like "911 social media team stop being so obsessed with Buck challenge" and, uh...I think that challenge should also be issued to someone else...

I just saw the promo pics for 5x14 and skipping the episode because they are knocking Killer Frost out again and will find some way to make Iris Mary Sue the victor. I'm tired of this shit. They always do this to Caitlin. When is the show going to stop crawling up Iris' hairy ass and give us OG Team Flash fighting together? That's what we want, but no, it's the Nora and Iris show still.

Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the Buddie 2024 Rewatch to spread some positivity!! The goal is to rewatch important episodes for both Buck and Eddie and their relationship and spread some love while we wait for season 8.

But now that we have an official release date for season 8, turns out we have less time than anticipated, so I readjusted things so some weeks now have 3 episodes because I can't narrow this list down more lol

Buck & Eddie: The couch in Buck’s coma dream

The couch Buck, Philip and Daniel sat on in Buck’s loft in 6x11 “In Another Life” during his coma dream was white and the color was significant for two reasons. First, his mother picked it out and she admitted it to him during his coma dream when he asked her about the Ferris Wheel.  He said, “What’s this?” and she responded “No idea. It doesn’t go with anything else I picked out.”  Then after he finished having a brief flashback of the Tsunami, she said, “If you like it... I love it.”  Therefore, Margaret picked out every piece of furniture that was in Buck’s loft during his coma dream including the couch but SHE DIDN’T PICK THE FERRIS WHEEL (detailed post about the Ferris Wheel here).  Margaret picking the couch for him is synonymous with Buck’s comment to Eddie in 6x1 “Let the Games Begin” about the way he didn’t pick his last two couches since they were picked out by his ex-girlfriends (AM & TK).

Second, every time a white couch was shown throughout the seasons, it was temporary or it was used as a metaphor and foreshadowing for Buck’s and Eddie’s relationships with AC for Buck and AF for Eddie (explained in the Couch meta linked here).  Those relationships were temporary and they were never meant to last and neither of them did but five years later and Buck and Eddie are still on their journey to FOREVER.

Even Maddie’s white couch in 2x6 “Dosed” that Buck and Eddie moved into her new apartment was temporary because she eventually moved in with Chimney.  

The couch Chimney and Maddie had in their apartment was light grey or beige (shown above in 4x4 “9-1-1 What’s Your Grievance?" and it was still in their apartment in 6x1).

While the couch in their new home as shown in 6x10 “In a Flash” is NAVY BLUE (the same color as Eddie’s couch but it’s a different style and made from a different fabric)!

The color of the couch in Buck’s coma dream is significant because it represents the temporariness of it being there the same way the couch Margaret bought for him after he was discharged from the hospital is temporary.

The most interesting thing about the couch Margaret purchased for him in CANON is it was never shown up close.

Even when Buck tried to sleep on it, the couch could barely be seen.  

It’s the same color as his armchair but IT’S NOT RIGHT FOR HIM the same way the couch Buck bought when he moved into the loft in 2x18 “This Life We Choose” while he was dating AM wasn’t right and TK’s couch wasn’t right for him in 5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia” and that’s why he couldn’t sleep on it.

Eddie’s couch is the only couch that fits the relationship metaphor and that has been FORESHADOWED multiple times.  He’s slept on it many times including 4x14 “Survivors” after Eddie was shot and again in 6x12 “Recovery” after he went over there and fell asleep on it.

The point is Buck has to pick his own couch/relationship and the only couch/relationship that fits is EDDIE! That’s it and that’s the metaphor.  If the narrative continues, there aren’t any other options for him.

Could the narrative change, ABSOLUTELY.  Will it?  Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question.
