ROBIN HOBB’S REALM OF THE ELDERLINGS >> Fitz POV Books
I sigh and set my quill aside. I have written too much. Not all things need to be told. Not all things should be told. I take up my scroll and make my slow way to the hearth. [...] I throw the vellum onto the coals.

Bee didn't inherit just the wit and the prophetic shenanigans from dad #1 and dad #2, she also inherited the "always doubting your loved ones love you back" trait, and the "don't ever speak plainly or someone might actually understand you" trait, and I just can't wait to read her future solo book, to see how badly she'll make us suffer.

"Realm of the elderlings is queerbaiting"
Fitz and the Fool literally confessed their love for eachother and merged their souls for eternity after their biological daughter told the Fool that Fitz loved him more than he ever loved anyone else. It's fine.
"But robin hobb said -"
I'm pretty sure she spoke against the homoerotic interpitation of fitzloved was more than a decade ago.
Neil Gaiman too said at one point that he doesn't see Aziraphale and Crowly as a couple and look at Good Omens now.
I think that we as a fandom tend subotage our own experience and analysis (and honestly, our fun) by focusing too much on an opinion that was expressed a long time ago, and never really applied to the text itself. (Which, the thing that happen in the actual place are what matters. Hobb saying Fitz is straight is no different than jk r*wling saying that dumbldore is gay.
(She also wrote a line in AF where after meeting Carson Fitz drops the fact that upon meeting men he sometimes gets a feelling of an "instant connection" of a "deep friendship that could have been" which sounds like the description of attraction/a crush/whatever you'd call this (Idk the difference between these Im aro) by someone who wouldn't know to call it what it.)
"They didn't kiss"
1) By the end Fitz had Jane Prentiss levels of worm infection and was very very weak. Non of them initiating a kiss at that point makes a LOT of sense from a watsonian perspective.
2) Did "I said into his panting mouth" mean NOTHING to you???
3)

Spoilers for the Fitz and the Fool trilogy ahead! As well as all previous books (I think). Proceed at your own peril!!
Did Robin change her mind about Fitz having romantic feelings for the Fool in the final trilogy? Seriously, I can't tell. The amount of homosexual shit that happens in these book is, quite frankly, ridiculous. I think that trying to break down every moment of Fitz acting gay would take far too much time, so I'm just going to focus on him in Fool's Assassin (had to look the book name up because Robin is real horny for naming every book the same fucking thing).
I think that the linchpin of Fool's Assassin is Fitz's utter dissatisfaction with life. Don't get me wrong, the man loves Molly. He loves his daughter. He loves everything he's built for himself at Withywoods. However, that love does little to assuage the discomfort he feels in his life.
His relationship with Molly, while passionate, lacks a level of openness that Fitz needs. Molly knows Fitz was an assassin, she knows he has the skill, she even knows he's old blood. She knows all this, but she doesn't accept it. She just dances around these parts of him, setting a firm limit on which parts of Fitz she loves and which parts she doesn't. Even if Fitz decided he wanted to choose a new wit companion, he'd never do it. Because he knows Molly would be disgusted by it. He closes off these core parts of his being so he can live his fairytale life with Molly Redskirts.
Bee isn't the child Fitz wanted. At first she's so behind other children developmentally that Fitz is ashamed of her, then she's so precocious that Fitz feels she doesn't even need him. His every effort at fathering is honestly depressing. I mean look at what he does after Molly dies! He flounders about not knowing what the fuck he's meant to be doing now that Molly isn't here to pick up his slack. He has to fight a god damn custody battle with Nettle just to keep his daughter at home (which he didn't win by proving his own competence, I might add, but rather because Bee didn't want to leave).
Fitz spends every night, not with Molly, but in his study, writing and burning away his feelings. But no matter how much of himself he tries to erase, that niggling feeling of discontentment never goes away.
And why is this? Why does Fitz feel so out of place, so unsatisfied, so ill equipped for this life he chose?
Because the one person who truly loved him without limit, isn't here. His Beloved is gone, and Fitz is a shell of a person without them.
And so I ask you, dear reader, how the fuck Robin Hobb thinks this isn't gay. Fitz chafes under the heteronormative life he's created for himself and longs for the liberation of being with Beloved, but this isn't gay apparently. Come on Robin! The man abandoned his child to save Beloved. The fuck do you mean he isn't queer.

ROBIN HOBB’S REALM OF THE ELDERLINGS >> The Fool The Farseer Trilogy + The Liveship Traders Trilogy + The Tawny Man Trilogy + The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy
You know who I am. I have even given you my true name. As for what I am, you know that, too. You seek a false comfort when you demand that I define myself for you with words. Words do not contain or define any person. A heart can, if it is willing. But I fear yours is not. You know more of the whole of me than any person who breathes, yet you persist in insisting that all of that cannot be me. What would you have me cut off and leave behind? And why must I truncate myself in order to please you? I would never ask that of you.
