So before I got into the lu+loz fandom, I was very active in the fire emblem fandom cause I was the lone artist to constantly make content of a rare ship (ephraim/innes) to the point I kinda made it semi popular once again lmao
The power of the hyperfixation
Anyway, so fire emblem has a mobile app where characters get new alts/content/outfits and my favorite guy ever, Mr Innes Fire Emblem, is ...not very popular lmao
Which is why he NEVER gets new content, as one of the few Innes fans I have accepted he will forever be unpopular and ignored
However the new sneak peek for the new alts is TOTALLY his silhouette and not only has half the fe fandom over at blue sky sent me a dm about it
But a big artist made a shout out to me lmao
And I'm losing my mind over my reputation in the fire emblem fandom being that
I am the one fan of this really unpopular guy who wants to see him fuck a fan favorite LMAO
MY LEGACY IN THE FIRE EMBLEM FANDOM EVERYONE!
#this is so funny I'm crying#my legacy....yaoi....#i keep getting fellow fe fans being like: oh so YOU are the /insert ship/ person#it's insane#the dread of being known#for yaoi of a rare pair kfbfkfnkd#anyway just wanted to share#the fire emblem fandom is so funny i love it sometimes#the fe fandom points at me with pity like: there she is the deranged fan of those two guys

Been doing so much GAMING I'm in my gamer girl era
Veilguard:
Finished it. Final review is that it sucked
What started out as fun combat turned into a tedious repetitive slog by the end and I was relieved to be done
Literally never encountered so much stupid ass writing in a product meant for adults
also it is wild just how mean-spirited the entire thing felt towards previous fans of the games, towards previous characters and settings. I can handle a shitty product born out of love (see below) but a shitty product that thinks it's morally and artistically superior to everything it owes its existence to? Nope. Hard pass.
BG3:
Started playing immediately after I finished Veilguard and while I don't think it's fair to compare... my god it's so much better. Having dialogue options that actually change and affect the game? Having to use your brain to think about how your words are going to be received so you don't fuck everything up? I feel like this isn't too much to ask for a RPG
I'm playing a smug high elf bard, his name is Luin and he's kind of ugly but I like him very much
Speaking of kind of ugly, I used to think Astarion was offputting based on seeing him all over Tumblr but like. I get it now. I get it. Sometimes you just need to see a Tumblr sexyman in context.
I flung an innocent gnome off of a windmill by mistake. Veilguard could never
Fire Emblem Engage
Honestly it's pretty stupid but the magical girl Emblem vibes are endearingly funny. Sigurd descending in a twirl of glitter on his horse.... you go girllll
I'm only 30 minutes in so I don't have much to say but Alear is just a little guy. smol, in the old parlance of this website
Re: my complaint above about how Veilguard felt spiteful towards the DA series as a whole, I know Engage was a swing and a miss for most of FE fandom but the key difference for me is that you can just tell the FE devs love their series and my emotional ass over here is crying over Marth saying "as long as you remember us, we'll be here." I just think that's a nice concept to honor where they've come from and specifically how those old games are meaningful to people. I'm not even one of them, I just got into this stuff last year, but mannnnn
#veilguard critical#i think i have 2 mutuals who liked the game that's why i'm still tagging#but good news: i'm done now. greener pastures. back on my fe bullshit as scheduled

Okay, I think the fandom is chilled out enough at this point to discuss in good faith and maturity how Edelgard has a tendency to rationalize working with people she hates while making enemies with people she likes/loves. I think this is a bad habit, but certainly one developed as a survival mechanism.
Just, imagine being Claude von Reigan staring at the Spare Or Kill bar over your head thinking "Duke Aegir gets house arrest and I get exile or execution??? Life is not fair." Or Dimitri thinking about how exile is not even an option for him, but Thales is still breathing. It is hilarious, in a tragic way.
Welcome to the Expanded Universe of Insane Edelgard Analysis where all of you who read my little analysis on Edelgard and Faith are going to get a completely inversed statement on Edelgard! So, to disclaimer, Edelgard is certainly more idealistic than cynical, although she would likely argue she is a realist (LOL), but she certainly has tendencies to dip into fatalism and such as. Edelgard thinks violence is inveitable, she sees a continent that Seiros reforged with violence, that was broken earlier by Nemesis's violence, and has been subverted by the violence of TWSITD and the nobility. Edelgard is willing to take up the tools of her enemies because she thinks this is the only way to play the game (how metatextual of her). She is driven by her ideals to win this game and make something better of it at the end, but it is still a grim reality to just accept as inevitable.
I think it boils down to Edelgard's dislike of losing control over things. Edelgard is working with people she hates, but they are people she has known for over half her life. She knows how they think, what makes them tick, what they want, all of that jazz. At this point, their naked self interest and penchant for atrocity do not surprise her (often, at least). Claude and Dimitri might seem like good people, Edelgard might be able to work with them, but in her mind her course was set years ago and she cannot go jeopardizing or even altering her plans on unknown variables. Edelgard does not know how they think, she often assumes the worst of them when they offer her any kind of laurel because assuming the worst has worked for her so far. This is not to say what she did was right, by the by, just to understand what she was thinking. Because "I will court the favour of Adrestia's nobility (who I hate) and secretly cooperate with TWSITD (who I hate even more), but I will not work with Claude or Dimitri (who annoy me sometimes, but are clearly not evil)" is a chain of thought that requires a complex answer and an interesting one at that. I think it is reasonable to say that not making an alliance with Claude or Dimitri (we are operating strictly with Three Houses, I adore Three Hopes, but what is going on there would make this all the more complicated) was a miscalculation, at least. A miscalculation that led to a continental war, but hey this is what they mean by the games of mice and men.
It is just so tragic, I think, that Edelgard was prepared for a world choked with evil, expected corruption and cruelty wherever she looked, and there was so much of it, but what she was unprepared for was a few sparks of good outside her own. If the odds were more against her, if Claude and Dimitri were not there, if there really was no one else willing to change Fódlan besides Edelgard, I think she might have had a better chance of victory than in the canon sequence of events. Edelgard really did not account for being in a Fire Emblem game where the power of friendship is real and it can kill your enemies (or you, if you make enemies of your friends). It is really funny, in a really heartbreaking way.

2025 Blog Plans
Hey hey everyone! Happy NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope everyone is doing well. First, I wanted to say thank you for a great 2024! Even if I didn't do much on here last year cuz of school work and life getting in the way, but hopefully this year, i can bust out new art for you guys.
I have some stuff I wanted to address of what I want to do this year, as well as some upcoming posts (all under the cut cuz there's a lot):
Remember how i said i was gonna redesign my Winx Club OCs? Well, great news! All of them have been redesigned, revamped, and all that jazz! I am aiming to post them sometime late-January maybe (don't hold me to that) I had completed these during 2024 but quite literally had zero time to post them, and with how my schedule is this semester, hopefully I should have enough time to post them by late-January.
For my fics with my OCs, I would love it if you guys could give me ideas for what I should write! I have a lot of OCs and I really want to start writing more tickle fics for them, but motivation and inspiration is rather low. I'd love and appreciate it if you could give me ideas! All of my OCs can be found here! And if it's an idea specifically for my Fire Emblem OCs, their tickle tier list is right here!
Speaking of tickle tier lists, let me know what characters you want to see for it next! Some of the fandoms I have done art/OCs for have a good amount of characters, so I would love to know what characters you want to see on the tickle tier list next!
For the past 4 months, I have been working diligently on a Minecraft fanstory using one of my favorite mods, Iron's Spells & Spellbooks! This story's primary focus is on this mod as well as When Dungeons Arise's Keep Kayra, sprinkling in some other mods, like Biomes O' Plenty, Better Structures, Mowzie's Mobs, etc. This story will be a series with 4 books! The series is called Kayra's Magic Academy (taking account of When Dungeons Arise's Keep Kayra but adding huge twist on it) My friends from college have been helping menmake this story and magical adventure engaging as possible and not to not be mistaken for a Harry Potter rip-off. So, hopefully soon after I post all of my new Winx Club OCs, I'll start posting these characters, as well as the map I made for this story (not the actual Minecraft, sorry, just a visual of what this world looks like. Wish I could but IDK how to do that) Once the story is done and posted, I will add a link to it here!
Speaking of the previous link, I will be restructuring it just a bit, but no major changes to it.
As for my new art series, Sona Color Swap, I will be getting back to that shortly; I just need to ask some other artist friends of mine with Sona, cuz some of them don't have them, so.... yeahhhhhhh. But with the artists I've done sonas for already really liked them, and I'm glad. So, for right now, Sona Color Swap is on a mini hiatus until I ask other artist friends if they're interested.
To kinda summarize all of this: All of the things I wanna post and change on my blog is not gonna happen overnight. I know I say I want to start posting towards the end of January, but even as I say that, I have doubt that I won't be able to do that. Do I want to post during that time? Yes. Funny enough, one of my new years resolutions is to be more on top of my work, both for school and personal; this blog included. A goal I want to set for myself for this blog in particular is to post something every month, if not, every other month. I wanna keep this blog going and active. The only time I will ever be on hiatus for this blog is if I'm working on important school assignments, family emergencies, burnout, or if I'm on vaction. Of course, I will keep you all updated and will annouce if I'm taking a short leave to work on stuff within my personal and school life.
This post is gonna be long as fuck, but these are the real desires I want for this blog, and it'd mean a lot if you guys could help me out. I know there's only a small handful of people who really interact with my blog, and I am eternally grateful, but I want to give you guys more to interact with. So, if you guys are willing to send me asks, sugestions of fics or tier lists, along with maybe art of some characters, that'd be so so great, and I'd be very appreciative.
Okay, I've yapped long enough. Once again, thank you all for an incredible year! Here's to a great, fun-filled, blessed, and productive new year!

Weed Eater
Written for the FE Flash Fic Friday on Dreamwidth
Prompt: MLM Ships
Title: Weed Eater
Ship: Dedue/Dimitri
Fandom: Fire Emblem Three Houses
Word Count: 1,432
Rating: T
Tags: Alternate Universe - Gardenverse, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Blue Lions Route
There was a type of folk considered fey amongst the people of Duscur. Not spoken of often because it was so unusual, even they considered the talk of the Flower Eaters to be but a poorly remembered myth. This, too, was a legacy that Dedue embodied, too, for better or for worse. It was considered as unlucky as it was beautiful.
He still remembered the confusion and the elation, when he was a young child. Still small and innocent and naive to the ways of the world and he expressed his love with how any child would: with wild flowers freshly picked.
“Mama, Mama, look what I can do!” he had cried out, happy and joyous with a big smile on his face. He was what? Four?
The look of fondness on his Mother’s face turned in an instant as Dedue showed her what was in his hands and it was not a trick of light. As he uncurled his fingers, the flowers that he unveiled were not from the garden but from him.
“Dedue, my love, you must never show this talent of yours to anyone, understand?” his Mother warned him as she accepted the little, yellow flowers Dedue had produced from his palm. “And you must always avoid anyone who would want to eat them.”
That was even unluckier. To be a Flower Eater. That was a curse far greater and heavier than the one which Dedue had upon him as a Flower Grower - or Florist, as he would come to hear amongst the mainland of Fódland. Turns out they were in tune with different bits and pieces of Duscur lore, filtered through inaccuracies. A long, long tale which had changed every time it had been spoken between two people.
Much like a school rumour, actually.
Deduce did his best, at the Officers Academy, to be as detached as possible but people talked. Even to him. Though he did his best to not talk back.
He minded his own business. He kept to himself, to the greenhouse, and no one was none the wiser to Dedue’s status as a Florist. People knew he had a green thumb but no one suspected that there was something more to his talent and gift with plants was nothing more than the innate knack that certain gardeners had.
No one except Dimitri and Dedue had his own suspicions about what exactly Dimitri was.
More than a friend, a house leader, a lord or a prince. There was a great darkness inside of him as well but Dimitri did his best to obscure it underneath a well-controlled and amiable persona. This extended far and wide to being close and personal.
However, Dedue didn’t want to talk about Duscur traditions or lore with Dimitri. Though, sometimes Dimitri would pry about innocuous things. Food, fashion, geography. The most surface level things so he could try and be close with him but Dedue was ever a brick wall.
Though a watchful one.
Maybe he was channelling his Mother, her spirit and her memory, too much but he saw the signs. Dimitri was exactly the type of person she used to warn him about. The Flower Eater. No Fódland name for it, as far as Dedue had heard, anyway.
They were characterised as the tragics, the obsessives, the ones who were always hungry for… something. Be it flesh or… be it flowers.
Dimitri was exactly that person and a little quip that he let slip confirmed it in Dedue’s mind. To anyone else it would have been funny but Dimitri wanted to eat the weeds. They had been assigned to gardening related tasks, like pulling weeds, by Professor Byleth to help.
And it only worsened from there, Dedue would observe from Dimitri’s side.
He was a very different person.
To everyone bar Dedue.
He had always sensed that one day Dimitri would snap. That he was hungry in a way that civil society could not provide as it went beyond a need for food but for vengeance. For blood and flesh and… flowers.
After everything that had happened. Edelgard’s assault on the Academy. His separation from Dimitri and the allies that he had amongst his Blue Lion classmates, Dedue shuddered with recollection. There was still much to be done, such as restoring the Holy Kingdom, clearing the name of the Duscur people, and more.
“I’m … I’m happy to know you are still alive, Dedue,” Dimitri grovelled to him. “And that you are real.”
“Yes, I’m real.” Dedue replied.
He let Dimitri touch him. To confirm his warmth, his heartbeat, his breath.
Though much of Dimitri’s sanity appeared to have returned to him as he got catharsis from facing Edelgard or returning to tutelage in Professor Byleth’s stead, and yes, of course, Dedue’s return to his side as vassal. There was still more to be regained, if it could at all, and an underlying fragility despite Dimitri’s present calm and serenity.
There was still more that Dedue could do for Dimitri.
He waited until an appropriate time. He had never disclosed this to anyone. His family had known but no one else knew. So, Dedue waited for a calm, blue night when the moon was big and full and the purest white. He invited Dimitri for a late night walk to the gardens. Just them and their companionship. Nothing more, nothing less.
Standing by the gazebo with his hands behind his back, gazing out over the lawn, “Can I tell you a secret?” Dedue asked.
He was finally ready to open up. He watched as Dimitri visibly perked up and for a moment, Dedue saw a flash of Dimitri’s seventeen year old self in the world weary and one-eyed face that he now bore. It made Dedue’s heart falter but he steeled himself.
If he was correct, if Dimitri was a Flower Eater like he thought, then his Mother’s wisdom was too far gone on him. Dedue had doomed himself the minute he pledged allegiance to Dimitri in gratitude for saving him.
“Please, go ahead.” Dimitri told him.
“I want you to know this.” Dedue said.
As he had grown older, it had become less easy to hide his condition. As a child, it was a painless magic trick, like a sleight of hand, to produce these flowers from his body but as he went through adolescence, that was part of his body which changed. He had to shave them off like he would the whiskers on his chin, sometimes it would even hurt when these pretty, dainty little yellow flowers would bloom.
Dimitri watched, mutedly amazed, as Dedue showed him this legacy of Duscur, too.
They lived in a world, amongst people, who conjure lightning and fire, control the winds, and yet this simple little thing elicited such oddness and mystery. It was strange.
Dimitri caressed the petal of the flower, he followed the natural arc of it with his finger. It was soft, he noted. All whilst Dedue told him bits and pieces from his Mother’s fairy tales. How his siblings used to be jealous of him because he had a gift that they did not and that was unfair.
Dimitri listened intently.
“I had no idea that such people existed.” Dimitri said, quietly awed. “I must be quite fortunate to have you by my side then.”
“Yes, about that…” Dedue murmured.
He plucked the flower and his fingers reacted as though he had given himself a paper cut. There was a thin line of red on his palm, like a scratch, and an involuntary twitch amongst his fingers. He offered it to Dimitri but when Dimitri tried to accept it with his hands, Dedue glared. He kept going. He offered to feed it to Dimitri and Dimitri, confused, did open his mouth.
Dimitri chewed thoughtfully. Dedue had never once wondered what the flowers he produced would taste like. He had never seriously thought that he would encounter a counterpart to his own condition but Dimitri’s expression.
“I like the taste of it.” Dimitri whispered. His lips quivered, like he was holding back an involuntary smile. Colour, ever so slightly, was added to his cheeks, too, that he could not interfere with.
Dedue blinked. He was actually taken aback to hear that considering… Dimitri was not known to be an auteur of taste or otherwise a gourmand. But it did flatter him to hear so. Even if it did affirm in Dedue’s mind that Dimitri was as every bit as tragic and obsessive and hungry as Dedue was promised when he was warned of as a child.

🛼, 🥤, 🔪, 🪲, and 🧩!! <3
🛼 ⇢ describe your latest wip with five emojis
sigh. to my fucking sorrow I've spawned in a new one very recently, so here you go... 💞🤝💖👑💍 it's funny, because in my head I consider this a Classic Damian Trope in terms of what kind of au it is, but I don't think I've ever posted this trope before? just daydreamed about it with every single fandom I've been in? (except fire emblem I guess, but it's kinda hard to make that kind of au with it because it basically is one already...) we'll see if I actually post this one I guess!
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
well YOU obviously bunni <5 okay actually Don't Bother Calling (I'll Call You) by FallacyFallacy is my favorite fanfic of all time. it's so good I don't even care that it's in first person, which would usually make me click off instantly. it's such a genuine exploration of being aromantic, how it feels to be perceived as allo when you aren't, it's SO SWEET it makes me want to cry every time I read it. which I do. a lot. even if you don't know shit about jughead jones it should be read by everyone 💖💖
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
bad question to ask me because I just forget shit allllll the time. hm... I guess I did do a lot of digging into appletinis relatively recently. I just needed to know about what kind of alcoholic drinks are made with apples for a totally normal reason.
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
you bastard. I can't believe you'd do this to me. fine, I guess I'll jot something down in that same wip from the emojis...
Because what else was he supposed to do? He certainly wasn’t set to inherit anything himself, being fifth in line for the throne. And compared to the younger two younger than him, Beel was the strongest fighter their kingdom had ever seen, and Belphie could weasel his way into foreign social circles like it was what he was born to do. And what Asmo was born to do was to act as a bargaining chip for the ones in his family that were actually competent and knew how to run a kingdom, and be a good little concubine to whoever would take him.
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
hmmm, I could say all the easy stuff like no paragraph breaks or ooc-ness... actually, whenever there's something too sexual that the tags don't warn for. listen, I'm sex-repulsed, but I've accepted that most people who aren't me get a little into (read: horny about) the pairings they write. whatever. I'm not here to police how people enjoy media. sometimes I even appreciate it, either for the intended reason or because it's really funny! but the least you can do is give me a warning! if I'm warned, I at least expect it. nothing fucking shatters my soul more than getting super hyped over a story only to realize it's going in a direct that will make me genuinely physically nauseous if I keep reading it. there's a reason I don't buy actual romance books anymore unless one of my friends have vetted it first. ugh. that's a really negative note to end things on. but whatever.

about me/blog info
introduction, before you follow, fandom stuff, etc. below the cut!
(star dividers courtesy of saradika)
hi everyone, i'm bees! here's some info about me/my blog:
i usually go by bees (he/him). please feel free to call me by name or whatever silly little nicknames you can think of.
if you know me irl no you don't. this is my happy little cringe fandom habitat <3
i love video games (mostly Nintendo and especially Pokemon/Fire Emblem) and anime (mostly Shounen and Shoujo), and most of the things i reblog are fanart and posts i think are funny
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is my favorite game of all time, and i post about it incessantly (more about this later)
Bernadetta von Varley is my favorite character of all time and i love her dearly and also she is my wife 💜
you can learn more about my favorite things here!
it is very difficult for me to come out of my shell and be myself (even in a space like this), but i returned to tumblr because i want to try to have fun and be cringe and be free, and i'm trying my best every day <3
PLEEEAAASE feel free to send asks/tag me/etc., especially if we're mutuals, and especially about my favorite things! i am far too anxious to initiate anything but i like interacting with people :)
on that note please be patient with me sometimes it takes me a long time to respond to things but I INTEND TO I PROMISE
i don't post art much but when i do you can find it under #my art
taken <3
before you follow (it's not too long i promise)
please don't follow me if you're a minor. i'm hesitant to mark this blog explicitly as 18+ because i don't really post nfsw stuff here besides joke text posts, but i don't want minors here regardless, sorry!
this is a 🏳️⚧️ trans friendly blog 🏳️⚧️
i don't do DNI's, but i do block/softblock/unfollow/blacklist/filter freely
i tend to avoid fandom discourse, including proship/anti/etc. discourse. my policy is that if i'm uncomfortable with a particular type of fandom content, i will fall back on my previous bullet point as necessary. the same goes for when i see people engaging in bullying and harassment over fandom stuff
this is not a spoiler-free blog, especially for FE3H and Naruto. i will occasionally tag spoilers (usually for jjba and xenoblade), but not consistently
FE3H-specific stuff
please please PLEASE talk to me about Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the Nintendo Switch you're not bothering me i promise
Bernie and Sylvain are my favorite guys i think they're neat
i'm too old and tired for fe3h lord discourse. i have my own favorites and opinions, but i tend to avoid following blogs that post aggressive or uncharitable takes about the main lords
i came from twitter where Bernadetta would only really trend for negative reasons, so please understand that i'm sensitive about the way people talk about her and her fans. no hard feelings if you don't like her, and i actually agree with a lot of criticism about her writing, but i try to keep anything too mean out of sight
That's it for now! Thanks for reading/skimming/whatever you just did, and I hope you'll stick around!

hey!!!!!! idk if request r open rn but!!!!!!! if they are, can i suggest first date hcs with the blue lion boys?? since theyre the only house you havent done?
their first dates with you
fire emblem three houses: blue lion boys
DUDE i have no idea what happened overnight but i woke up with like 60 notifications lmao
& thank you so much!! yes requests are open lolol
DIMITRI
not only would this be yours & dimitri’s first date.... but it would probably be dimitri’s first date EVER
he had no clue what you’d even do on a date so he had to resort to asking sylvain (but that didn’t go so well)
luckily he had mercedes and annette to turn to, and they just told him to be himself
which he didn’t quite understand but he just went with it
anyway..... he’d probably show up to your dorm with a boquet of flowers (lavender ones) but they’d probably be a bit crushed at the stems due to how nervous he was
but he’d hold them out to you anyway & apologise for his nervousness
dimitri’s face is definitely red for the whole day too
he was very desperate to hold your hand (since he’d seen sylvain doing it) but was afraid that he’d crush you
so he resorted to offering you his arm instead
he probably took you on a walk through the forest near the monastery
he wanted to use that opportunity to learn more about you, but it instead ended up being him telling you all about the different types of trees you could see
i bet he knows literally everything about trees and plants ok (thank dedue)
annette and mercedes gave him a little picnic to have with you & dimitri was very excited to show you the cute little sandwiches they made
he’d talk to you about something you’re very interested in (he did a lot of research) and then watch as you rambled on about something he has no idea about
he has the cutest look in his eyes, too full of love
throughout the entire day all he did was make sure you were smiling too, and he was constantly trying to make you laugh
he told a few jokes (probably about something actually really sad) but they didn’t go too well. you laughed anyway though
either way you had a really fun time, mostly because of how cute dimitri was being
DEDUE
dedue has also never been on a date
but he has more common sense than dimitri so obviously he doesn’t go to sylvain for advice
dates with dedue probably don’t go how dates are supposed to go - you guys just hang out together, maybe you kiss, maybe you just hold hands
you quietly sit in the greenhouse together, tending to dedue’s flowers
you’re probably one of the only people he lets touch his flowers, seeing as though he loves you a lot
it would be peaceful & quiet, and the only times either of you would speak would be when you’d ask about a certain flower, or when dedue would tell you about the plant he was looking after at the time
maybe after you both finish watering & weeding all the plants, you’d just sit there in comfortable silence, enjoying each other’s presence
i’m sure chef deddles (love chef deddles) would bring you a small sized version of whatever dish he was working on at the moment
or he’d bring you something he’d made up himself for you to try first
anything he makes or does, the first person he’d show is you
dedue brings a blanket or something to wrap around the two of you as you sit later on into the night
he worries that doing this is too boring, or it’s not a good enough first date
but you just have to reassure him that it’s nice & that you enjoy it :(:( he’s too anxious bless
as he’s walking you back to your dorm, he’ll gently take your hand & tell you that he’s had a very nice time
maybe he’ll just gently kiss your cheek, or if he’s not feeling that confident, he’ll just squeeze your hand & give you the gentlest smile
SYLVAIN
sylvain has been on many a date so he knows EXACTLY what he’s doing
he takes you to a cute little cafe in town
he wanted to take you to a restaurant at the start, but decided against it since he had no idea if you’d like that or not
but everyone likes a little cafe date... right?
since he’s actually bothered to formally ask you on a date & is serious about you, he’d probably bring you one or two of his favourite books
because we all know he’s actually a smarty pants
he’d hold your hand or have an arm wrapped around your waist on the way there, & he’d point out all the places he’s been kicked out of for flirting with the waitresses (or even the owner) because he knows you won’t judge him for that
anyway. when you get there, he insists on sitting on one of the couch chairs (or whatever they had in the 12th century) and at first you sit opposite each other
he likes it that way since you can both talk to each other face to face (and he can playfully tap your feet under the table)
the day is full of jokes & weird stories that sylvain has
somehow he’s met literally everyone and anyone and always has the most wack story for any situation
he also playfully flirts with you - it’s not serious (even though he means it) but it’s so cheesy it’s funny
after a while, when the cafe is quieter, sylvain comes and sits with you on your side of the table
he just wraps an arm around your shoulders using the old yawn & stretch trick
leaning over, you feel his lips on your cheek & he just whispers a little “thank you” for allowing him to have a real date
FELIX
felix is born different. he’s a different breed
he does not have any experience since he’s NEVER HAD A CRUSH. or so he says
and he’s too stubborn to ask anyone for help so he just does whatever he feels like
by that, i mean you guys definitely stay in the training hall for the entire day
if you accepted felix’s feelings you knew exactly what you were getting into, so deal with it
he forces you to spar with him for most of the day but he cares about you too much to overexert you
when you both take a break he sits really close to you for no particular reason other than to sit close to you
this is felix’s romance. sharing sweat (aw)
he also goes easy on you when you’re fencing
not that he thinks you’re incapable of fighting at his level, but that he just doesn’t want to accidentally stab you
sometimes he lets you win & really sarcastically says something like “aw, damn! you’ve won again...!” with this really soft smile on his face
only on the premise that nobody else is around
on the way back he won’t hold your hand or anything but he’ll constantly look back at you with the fondest look in his eyes
he probably looks down at your hands wishing he has the courage to actually hold them too
at the end of the day when he’s walked you all the way back to your dorm, he’ll very spontaneously kiss you right on the lips
he’ll have a very firm hold of your face but all of a sudden he’ll just let go & run off with his face bright red
sylvain probably saw and that’s why he left so suddenly looool
ASHE
i was going to say something stupid like ghost hunting but ashe would probably rather die
he’d probably just sit in the library with you and discuss books with you for a few hours, nothing too major
but ashe has a way with words & can tell old tales as though he was there (even if i’m remembering his character wrong, let’s just pretend)
you’d ask him about the book he’s currently reading & he’d tell you the plot of it (without spoiling it obviously) and the way he’d word it would make you want to pick it up immediately
the both of you just sit in the library quietly for hours, reading a book each
the only time either of you would talk would be when either one of you would laugh at something in your book & you’d have to explain the joke to the other
obviously ashe won’t allow either of you to stay up really late (no later than like 7) because the monastery gets dark at that point
and you know what comes out when the monastery gets dark?
absolutely nothing. but it’s funny seeing ashe scream at shadows so don’t say anything
i imagine that your first date goes so well, ashe forgets about the time & you both come out of the library at like 11:00
it’s a wonder seteth hasn’t found the two of you
anyway. your date actually turns out to be a ghost hunting trip (alternate title: ashe runs away from the ghosts while you laugh at him, and neither of you can see where your dorms are)
it’s fun anyway. well, not in ashe’s opinion
at some point you see this really big shadow that’s moving towards you and you both scream thinking it’s a really evil ghost
suddenly a torch is lit on the wall & turns out its seteth
“i knew i intimidate many students, but surely i don’t elicit a scream that loud!”
seteth quietly escorts the two of you back to the dorms and it’s really awkward
he eventually leaves you both alone & ashe sighs the biggest sigh of relief you’ve ever heard
he quietly thanks you and, with the most courage he’s ever had, he pecks your cheek & runs off
my first ask 🤪🤪 thank you so much!!! ah this was fun to write
requests are still open by the way!! for any of the fandoms on my rules page lolol

It’s truly hilarious to watch Triangle Strategy fandom get ‘Petrelli’d’ in real time. Especially with a complete canon already existing
It took me a little digging to understand the reference here, but I think I get what you're saying.
The funny thing is that I'm not going to try to prop up Serenoa/Roland, not because I find it morally objectionable or out of line in a game that's (intentionally or not) aping elements of both Fire Emblem and Game of Thrones, but because - well, there's just nothing there.
I looked! I've been looking for almost two weeks, but unless there's a big surprise coming in the golden ending there's a sexless quality to almost all of the writing of Triangle Strategy that feels virtually impenetrable to someone who loves looking at subtext as much as I do. They piled a full game's worth of innuendo into Milo - a dancer even more overtly a sex worker than Octopath Traveler's Primrose - and that one scene of Thalas having sex just off-camera, and apparently called it a day after that. Even with so many scenes of close albeit sometimes fraught friendship Serenoa and Roland's dynamic is so dry, and while that's true of many other character dynamics in this game it really stands out for such central figures. It's quite telling that the most emotionally charged scene between the two of them, where they duel because Serenoa chose Benedict's plan in the final vote, is the only one that hammers in how tragic this is because they're brothers. I can enjoy well-written incest and incest kink, but that scene is as decidedly unsexy as everything else in this game.
There's always fanon, I suppose, but it's like pulling blood from a stone as far as I'm concerned.

Since its 3Hs anniversary some really cool things I like about the game that aren’t talked about enough because the fandom is too busy arguing who is right and who is wrong
The worldbuilding just. 3H has honestly one of my favorite fictional settings. Its just both expansive but also genuinely interesting. I have spent HOURS thinking about the world and made so many ocs its not even funny. I love thinking about the setting of the game so much.
I LOVE the puzzle like way the game explains its world and story. Like I know some people don’t like it because it makes the game a bit too convoluted but personally? I LOVE 3Hs way of not telling everything but rather giving hints and clues the player has to piece themselves. It makes the games world feel more interactive and feels so satisfying. Then again I enjoy that kind of approach to worldbuilding
In general I love 3hs fragmented story and the way how the story is placed in many different fragments. It is geniunely rewarding to replay the game from another storypath and notice the foreshadowing Would’ve the story been probably better had it been just one storypath? Honestly yes. But 3h is ambitious and one of the ways it is is with its fragmented story structure.
The structure of White Clouds is criminally underrated honestly and gets way more hate than it deserves. I love how the first few chapters set up the world of Fodlan and show injustices/conflicts of the world with chapters like the chapter where you face off Lonato for instance. Then the next few chapters are spend in deepening the mysteries such as the conspiracy against the church and the mystery regarding TWSITD. Then Jeralt dies and the last few chapters are spent as “beginning of the End” so to speak, as things clears to the intense climax.
On related note I LOVE how the game handles perspective and how the lords are the respective ways we view the story. I know so many people say “WHite Clouds is same on all paths” but I do feel that’s kinda the point. The story is the same but there are differences that come from the way each of the lords is strongly characterized and has different values, worldviews. The subtle changes on what are focused on in each route also foreshadow what will be focused on each route, which I think is super cool.
Even beyond the lords and routes the game does explore the idea of perspective well. I do think 3h has this very “everyone is the hero of their own story” type of approach to perspective and it shows it well. Each character believes they’re in the right and you can get this view that they view themselves as right. Even Agarthans who are the designated villains have this sense they think they’re in right and that the Nabateans were evil.
The way how games routes being divided into having a different focus is very cool. I love how AM is a smaller scale personal tragedy, how CF is a battle of ideals and how VW explores the world and reveals deeper mysteries. I also love how all of these are related to the lords ideals and worldviews: Dimitri is the most conflicted of the lords so he gets the most characterfocused story focused on . Edelgard is the most ideologically driven so her path focuses on her ideals and battle of wills against Rhea. Claude is the one who is the most freespirited and wants to know the truth so his route focuses on revealing the mysteries.
Also the way the houses characters reflect their respective routes storyline and central themes: Black Eagles are nobles that have conflicting relationships with nobility reflecting Edelgards goal, Blue Lions are all united with the trauma of Tragedy of Duscur, and Golden Deer are a house of misfits who give this “ragtag group who will save the universe with POWER OF FRIENDSHIP and this cool gun I found” vibes which fit the route PERFECTLY
I LOVE how the game plays with and subverts a lot of Fire Emblem tropes. While it does play some tropes straight (dad death and evil cult manipulating behind the scenes) it does do a lot to break from series conventions and playing with ideas to make a more ambitious story. The way it either subverts expectations (The evil emperor being female well intended extremist, Rhea being the Gharnef/Medeus instead of the Nyna archetype she’s presented as), twists familiar tropes to their natural extreme (Dimitris arc is basically the natural extreme end of stereotypical FE lord) and other similar things make the game feeling so planned out, like the writers understood FE stories and wanted to make something that challenges FE while still feeling like it.
The way how every major player acts as foil/pararell to another player is so GOOD. Every faction leader can be compared to the other somehow and that just makes the game SOOOO fun to analyze, trying to find all the similarities and differences and pararells is so rewarding.
A more specific example on this is how i love how the game plays with the idea of holy/sacred weapons. While normally these weapons are artifacts from goddess that defeat dragons, here the holy weapons are bones made from dragons and just???? HOW METAL IS THAT????????? It’s just such a neat way to subvert the idea of sacred weapons. Rather than being blessed creations of the goddess, they are weapons of destruction made by the villains.
I ADORE THE GAMES science fiction elements. I know people say they feel out of place but personally, they make the game memorable for me. I still remember the first time I saw that scene with nukes. I especially love the heavy implication that Sothis isn’t a goddess but rather a powerful alien. It makes her character much more interesting
I know a lot of people don’t like Agarthans but can I just say their backstory being “forced to hide after their land got conquered and desiring it back” making them a dark mirror not just 3h lords/Rhea but FE lords as whole is SO FUCKING METAL. This is what I mean with 3H writers knowing their tropes like back of their hand.
I love how in Part 1 sometimes you’d talk to two characters in Monastery at once instead of just one. It’s something I miss in part 2 honestly.
I love the small sidequests such as the fishing tourney and White Heron cup and wish Part 1 had more of them, it would’ve made the school part feel more alive.
I LOVE how some missions (esp paralogues) have subgoals that you can clear to get better rewards. I wish the game had been more clear with them or even made them main goals of maps sometimes.
I LOVE THE WAY Paralogues act as small gaiden stories that show more of the games world and characters. Its a neat way to let the sidecharacters shine and reveal some neat secrets of the games world and story.
The gameplay loop is honetly fun and satisfying. It is rewarding and while it gets tiring towards the end overall its a good gameplay loop.
I ADORE the aesthetic of Shambhala. Its just so sleek and sinister. The cyrillic letters spelling different words is so cool. Shambhala is my favorite map in the game and the aesthetic is a big reason why.
The games soundtrack is so good!!!!!!!!!! But not only that I LOVE the way its electro elements subtly hint of Agarthans being in control behind the scenes. This is especially cool in Road to Dominion where the electro parts are barely noticeable yet present. but other tracks have subtle electro vibes as well. The other way the games music tells the story (such as use of leitmotifs or how the monastery music changes once Jeralt dies) is great as well.
I love how 3h can be read as an allegory for reformation era and reneissance. Its such an interesting way to read the games events and compare it to a real historical periods there’s quite a bit of f
In general I ADORE the cultural references of the game. There’s surprisingly lot of way the games world is based on real life and the details are just *chefs kiss*
THE GAME IS DENSE WITH THEMATIC IDEAS. Besides the perspective the game tackles ideas of how trauma can affect a persons psyche and worldview (as well how a persons trauma affects the way they interact with the world which in turn can affect the world as well), grief, societal values, historical revisiniosm and so much more. The game tackles SO MANY topics in an interesting manner, it is thematically just as dense as it is storywise as well.
I also love how the games thematic parts work in harmony with the story rather than one overshadowing with the other. Its super refreshing honestly where a games themes and story are both rich and I don’t have to pick one over the other.
Lastly I ADORE the games central message (or at least what I see as the central message anyway): The world’s fucked up and most people want to fix it, but what they deem fixing differs and because of that they go into conflict or outright war rather than trying to find a common ground. Everyone wants a better world but no one can agree what a better world truly means so they fight over it. It was a theme that not only resonates with my personal values but also hit me REALLY hard when I first played it as it’s a theme that I found incredibly relevant and reflective of our own world during the time I played the game for the first time.
So yeah. I made this post since there’s SO MUCH neat things about the game, its gameplay and story that sadly get swept under the rug in favor of either arguing which lord was right/wrong or complaining how the game is an unfinished, rushed and overambitious mess. Is 3h perfect? Hell no. But it’s a game that I hold near and dear to my heart and does genuinely SO MANY THINGS RIGHT, I’m sad no one talks about the genuine strengths the game has anymore, instead just complaining.
I’m not even joking when I say that 3h should be up there as heralded as one of the best, most ambitious and complex JRPGs alongside Xenogears, the first Xenoblade game, Suikoden and Trails series as whole along other such games. Its a shame the games reputation is less like those games and more like Persona 5s where everyone focuses more on its flaws and the fans being annoying than the fact the game does geniunely A LOT right. It’s just that good, ambitious game I love so much.

Corrin for the character ask thing?
You didn't mention any questions you wanted me to answer, so I'll just pick those myself! 1- Favourites thing(s) about this character?
Their kindness and mental fortitude!
Way, way back when I first started playing Fates I mentioned how astounding it was that Corrin went through all the shit in the first six chapters that take place around what, two weeks at most? And
2- What song(s) remind you of this character?
To quote @good-beans, 😐
4- Would you write about this character?
I am daydreaming about planning a Fates sequel featuring the two versions of them from Birthright and Conquest, which also includes a Revelation AU with a fallen Corrin who's under constant threat of degeneration.
Honestly, the real question is not "Would I", but "Will I actually write about them?"
Eh, that's up to the executive dysfunction demon to decide. help me
8-Do you think this character is underrated or overrated?
Underrated, absolutely!
They get a lot of undeserved hate from the fandom that's become pretty much self-sustained by this point, but the truth is there's a lot of endearing stuff about them that you can see if you just give them a fair chance!
9- What’s your favourite headcanon(s) for this character?
Post-Conquest Corrin spends most of their free time at the nearest lake, hoping they'll see Azura again, since they don't want to know she's dead. Sometimes one of their siblings joins in, but more often then not they're on their own, talking to Azura, hoping she can hear them wherever she is. Eventually it became a habit to self-reflect and voice their thoughts out loud as a way to vent.
10- Who do you like to ship with this character? (If you do of course) Is it another character from the cast or is it an OC?
I paired them with Felicia in Birthright because I think they're really cute together (also the idea of Princess Felicia fascinates me for some reason, especially in Birthright since... Flora), with Silas in Conquest because I kept pairing them up ingame anyway and with Annabelle in Revelations, mostly because I found the idea of Corrin's family becoming even more comically large really funny😂 Also I feel they make a good couple!
11- Who do you not like to ship with this character?
Their siblings, for starters (and yes, that includes Azura). But also characters whose age difference is too much from Corrin's alleged age, ranging from literal children to people old enough to be their parent.
But besides those big no-nos that have been beaten to death by literally everyone... I can't think of anyone, at least not right now.
16- What do you think would improve this character? Like, character-arc wise?
I really wish they weren't an avatar.
I made a whole essay about the narrative implications of Robin being an Avatar and it was lots of fun, but honestly? I don't like the way Fire Emblem handles avatars. At all.
Either they make it so that they're barely even a character with Dora the Explorer-level interactions or a fully fledged character that feels directly at conflict with being an avatar.
And then there's Byleth, that from what little I know about 3H is a mix of both, and that's just gonna be lovely when I play it /s But both variants feel incredibly jarring, and they break my immersion when they're meant to do the opposite, the first one with characters suddenly turning to the screen and addressing you, the latter because you can't choose how you talk or what to do, so they do a terrible job at being "you". Just look at how people love to complain about Corrin being "dumb" or whatever.
Just adding an avatar makes you lose so many things, both minor like the camera bending over backwards to not show their face in CG cutscenes since it's customizable or awkward 1st person POVs, characters not being able to call them by name.
And this is more debatable on how much it affects the writing, but I definitely won't deny that FE games with an avatar tend to have the problem of revolving more around the protagonist and needlessly complimenting them even when they fuck up, or them feeling a bit more generic or at least subdued to make them more relatable.
And while I feel Robin wasn't affected by this (...mostly, but even them I'd say them being an avatar worked really well considering the series' state by that point and... well, just read my essay above I'm too lazy to repeat myself), I think Corrin got hit hard.
Mind you, I still really like Corrin and I think most criticisms of them are overblown at best and disingenous at worst, but they're a terrible avatar, since the only choice you can make that actually matters is the route split, they have a backstory and family that "relatable" is the last word I'd use to describe, and in general they're really unique in the way they talk and act, so the avatar thing feels like a huge detriment to the character.
If they weren't an avatar, they'd probably be more open in their personality and we'd have more flavored character interactions, they'd get called out more when they mess up (then again, the fact that they don't is what makes the latter half of Conquest feel "wrong" in a way that fascinates me, because it feels like someone constantly reassuring themself everything's fine while the world's crashing down around them) and also we'd be able to actually see them emote in cutscenes!
Oh, and also we wouldn't have shit like them being able to marry their family and literal children.
17- Have you ever had a crush on this character…?
On male Corrin? I don't know, probably? On female Corrin? Absolutely, but then again I crush on so many FE/fictional women it's honestly embarassing😳
19- What would the show/book/movie game be like if this character wasn’t present?
IT WOULd Be BETtEr, fATes bAD lMAo
But seriously, it's so out there to imagine it could be its own big AU! Lilith would be Anankos' only child, and since she doesn't go to Nohr to watch over Corrin she would go to Hoshido to join Mikoto's side and pretty much get adopted.
So:
Princess Lilith being a Diviner
Mikoto bonding with her adopted(?) daughter and the two quietly going to Valla just to talk about... you know, together whenever they can
Yato and the prophecy don't show up and that's good because I hate prophecies (well, that or Lilith's kid could wield Yato?)
What's not to love? And yes, I will take every excuse to give my babey fish dragon the spotlight she sorely needed
Not sure where it would go after that, like: does Azura still get kidnapped? How does the war start in this universe? Without Corrin, how would they reach out to Nohr since none of them have pleasant memories about the place or people?
It could take so many different directions and I love it!
21- Wild card! Talk about anything to do with this character! Anything at all!
Why are Corrin's default hair light brown? (Or y'know, whatever their hair color is called)
According to FE logic, they should be either black or blue like Azura's, and while I get why they didn't go with the latter for spoilery reasons I wonder why they don't have Mikoto's hair color.
That or have Sumeragi have Corrin's default hair color as a red herring to mock the very convention, it would have been funny.
It's not a criticism or anything, it's just... a nitpick, I guess?
When I replay Fates with the Team If translation I'm definitely making Corrin's hair black! Character ask game

Words: 7.7k
Summary: Waking up in a forest without any knowledge of your past and who you are, you join the house leaders of the Officers Academy to search for a way to return your memories. Unfortunately, the church has different plans for you, and Fate places you in the centre of a cruel game with deadly stakes. It certainly doesn’t help to fall in love with a house leader who is doomed to be your demise.
Notes: Chapter 3 | Chapter 5
Chapter 04: Demands of the Faithful
I stretch lame hands of faith, and grope, And gather dust and chaff, and call To what I feel is Lord of all, And faintly trust the larger hope.
[Alfred, Lord Tennyson, In Memoriam A.H.H.]
“I’m glad you could make time,” Byleth says, carefully placing her fine cup on the small bottom plate. If she notices how uncomfortable you feel, sitting in the centre of the yard, drinking tea, she ignores it. “Let’s think together about what we want to teach during the mock battle.”
“This is a bad idea,” you say, nibbling on your cup. “A very bad idea.”
The late afternoon hours are quiet, but it certainly helps that the tea arrangement is tugged away in a far off corner in the courtyard, hidden behind tall hedges that allow privacy. The sweet smell of chamomile tea and strawberry pastry is a nice exchange from the usual savoury smells you’re used to in the cafeteria. All around you, the high, spiky roofs of the monastery’s towers stand out against the fiery, orange sky, throwing longer and longer shadows as the sun sets behind the mountains. The clouds are soft, pink cotton-candy, blushing at the warm touch of the sun.
“I think it’s a good idea,” Byleth continues, cutting through a piece of cake with her fork. “We’ve seen what the house leaders are capable of. It’s time to see what the rest of the students can do.”
“Don’t take me wrong. I think a mock battle will help them grow,” you agree. “I just don’t really understand why it’s me who has to lead the Blue Lions.”
“I think Professor Hanneman is not present at the day of the mission,” Byleth explains. “It seems on the last day of Lone Moon he always leaves the monastery for a private reason. And I assume Lady Rhea means to see the extent of your power.”
That’s what you expected as well. In the last couple of days you realised your power is a muscle, to be exercised daily, never to be pushed to the extreme. It was a strenuous task to try out how much is too much; where there’s still room. Under the keen eyes of Hanneman, you two practised day after day, trying to figure out how much your body can take before exhaustion sweeps over you and renders you immobile. Crests usually don’t have a limit; depending on their nature they grant a permament boost to the bearer’s abilities. Muttering under his breath, Hanneman had made quite a show to remind you what a curiosity the Crest of the Herald is. Like you wouldn’t know.
“Since we’re going to be on the field as well, you might want to get more practice with the sword,” Byleth proposes, and you groan. She has a way of being brutally honest, and so far no one’s been spared to get the brunt of it. “I’m not letting my students hold back. Not even against you.”
“You really are a voice of confidence, you know.” Shoulders drooping like someone took the wind from your sails, you throw your head back and drink the rest of your tea. Byleth’s expression doesn’t change, and you wonder why you even try being funny around her.
After clearing the table, Byleth accompanies you to your next lesson hall. It’s nice in theory, but her vigorous way of trying to drill sword techniques into your head on the way doesn’t hide her true agenda. Only slowly, you begin to realise that is maybe her way of caring for someone. Brutish in appearance, but once you look past the first impression of indifference, Byleth’s silent demeanour speaks louder than words.
Students linger in small groups in front of the class rooms, their exhausted faces from a full day of lessons and hard training visible in the way they carry their bodies. If you had a say in it, you’d cancel the evening lessons and let them rest; a reoccurring debate inside the faculty that doesn’t go anywhere. Byleth stops in front of the class room, surveying the students with a cool gaze, when suddenly Claude and Hilda jog towards you, and by “jogging” they decided Hilda to be the only one running while carrying Claude bridal style like he weighs nothing. As they pass you, Claude tips an invisible hat in your direction, calling “Hey, teach,” and then immediately “Bye, teach!” as they cross the courtyard.
Your gaze follows them. “What just happened.”
Byleth doesn’t even bother to look. “Claude and Hilda happened.”
Heavens, you don’t know if you’re able to handle them later.
After exchanging goodbyes with Byleth, you tackle the next forty minutes with a belly full of sweets and a mind occupied with worrying about everything you might do wrong next week. Forming two groups, you hand out two different manoeuvres you dug out of books, and present the task, “Work out the pros and cons of each battle tactic, and present them to the class. Explain where you would have done things differently, and why.”
Sylvain raises his hand.
“Yes, you can leave to bathroom breaks without asking me,” you say.
Sylvain drops his hand. Then raises it again.
“No, you can’t bring animals you find on your way back to your seat,” you say.
He drops his hand. Beside him, Ingrid fails to stifle a groan.
Twenty minutes later, the first group stands in front of the class. Mercedes’s steady hand draws the perfect copy of the manoeuvre on the chalk board while Annette recites every step flawlessly. They’re a powerful combination, and that’s only half owed to their friendship. Mercedes is soft; she’s the silk hiding the dagger that Annette’s sharp mind is. There’s strength in kindness, and both have honed this ability to a razor-sharp weapon. There’s still a pouch of unfinished cookies Mercedes has baked for you left in your room, something to keep in mind for the next tea hour with Byleth. Felix and Dedue don’t add much, and you’re a little afraid to ask, seeing how Felix’s eyes burn holes in the back of Dedue’s head. There’s been rumours going on about a dispute, but no details, and you gladly leave that sort of teacher-student business to Hanneman.
The remaining students do their job almost just as good. But the thought of children being so confident in ways of war and killing leaves a painful twinge in your chest. You wonder what will become of them all in a few years, what battles they will win. What battles they will lose—this fear lingers at the edges of your consciousness like an ever-present shadow. To push it away, you try to refocus on the task at hand.
“Look at the battalions you have,” you advise, tapping a finger against the cool surface of the board. It comes away white with chalk, leaving a white smudge on your robe as you wipe it off. “Where are they placed?”
Ashe clears his throat. “Two Lance Soldiers, that’s Infantry. One Magic Squadron, also Infantry. The latter is stationed far northeast on that island. Two Pegasus Corpses, which are Flying Types. We put them behind the mountains to ambush the enemies on their way to one of our Infantries.”
“A good idea in theory,” you acknowledge, and don’t miss how Ashe exhales in relief. “And where are you enemies?”
“They’re facing our Infantry and the Squadron,” Dimitri steps in now. “The Flying Unit engage from the back. After their victory, Infantry and Flying close the last opposite unite off on the bridge, and join the Magic Squadron in fighting.”
“Okay, okay,” you nod. “And now look at the terrain of this last unit you want to take on from the front and back. The one on the bridge moving towards the Squadron.”
The room is quiet for a minute, and then a silent “Oh” from Ashe.
“Yes. Oh. The Magic Squadron moves slower through the woods. You’ll lose them. And one of the Lance units is probably the next to go.” You draw sharp lines across the board with red chalk, changing the battalion’s movements. One goes across the whole board, crossing out the word Sea. “Wouldn’t it be smarter to have your Pegasus Companies move this way across the water, join the Magic Squadron and then close in from the right to join the Infantries?”
“But Herald.” Ingrid raises her hand, but doesn’t wait for you to pick her. “If Infantry and Flying take out the first enemy, we’ll still win. The remaining unit will be trapped on the island without a possibility to retreat. Wouldn’t it be wiser to sacrifice the Magic Squadron just for that?”
“I agree with Ingrid,” says Sylvain. He’s sitting on a desk, and swings his legs back and forth. “With or without them, we won the battle, and that’s what matters.”
You turn back to scan the manoeuvre one more time. They’re right—blocking the enemy’s escape routes off proves a solid guarantee to win, and yet you’ve somewhat hoped they wouldn’t settle on this option. There’s a bitter taste in your mouth, turning your lips upside down as if you’ve bitten into a lemon.
“Sometimes, you don’t want to win the battle,” you start slowly, the thought blossoming from a dark place deep inside you. “Sometimes you want as many as possible to live.” Which is easier said than done, and no one in the room agrees on your statement because they know just as much that such a choice isn’t always granted. Before the silence stretches on too long, you quickly add, “I guess it is more important to know there is no right or wrong answer. You make decisions later on that will either grant you victory or death, and you will have to live with those decisions.”
Unanimous murmur sounds from the students, a topic nobody wants to dwell on too long, and you grant them that wish; this precious little time they’re still allowed to be children and make mistakes before responsibilities catch up to them. The rest of the lesson flies past without disturbances, and when the bells announce the break, they jump from their seats and scurry outside.
“Don’t forget there’s going to be a test after the mock battle,” you call after them, knowing they’ll forget anyway and then boycott. The Lions are finally done with lessons, but there is the Deer House who have the misfortune to attend the last period of the day. As you prepare their unit of instruction on different terrains, Dimitri approaches you, his expression a mixture between confidence and tension.
“Herald.” He stops in front of your desk, shoulders squared into a declaration of deference. “I have prepared instructions on everyone’s weaknesses and strengths. Please, do consider to take a look. Since one of the rules is that only six units will be stationed on the field, I hope this will make your decision easier who to choose.” Placing the papers with outmost care on your table, Dimitri hesitates a moment before continuing, “What you said earlier … truth be told, I think the same. To limit the loss of lives as much as possible should be a priority to a leader as well. To hear that from someone like you … I was quite glad.”
“Someone like me,” you repeat, but you’re more surprised to feel your fingers itch to take the papers and get a first read on everyone. After going through similar notes from Linhardt, you’re now excited to learn more about your proteges, and with luck someone from the Golden Deer students might provide you with a first survey as well.
“Someone responsible for tactics and strategy,” Dimitri quickly clarifies. “Someone tasked with bringing absolute victory.” He gives you a look that is somehow both caressing and calculating at the same time. “I understand that those sometimes compete with one’s own beliefs regarding the value of life. One’s conscience is as much of a weapon as a sharpened blade. If it breaks, what use is there to a person.”
“Those are … some mature thoughts.” You don’t know where this observation goes. Of course he is mature, he has to be as the successor of a noble lineage. “For someone your age.” You press your mouth into a thin line, cursing your inability to think of a better response. But Dimitri simply smiles—a smile that is like a light suddenly being turned on in every room of a dark house.
“Oh, but I do not want to bore you with such matters. I just wanted to add, I really do look forward to have you on our side during the mock battle.” He gives a little courtesy bow. “Let us discuss the details on the day before the mission. A good evening to you, Herald.”
Dimitri leaves with a little bounce to his step. It’s probably better he’s in high spirits, even though you aren’t sure what exactly made him happy. It would be a real shame to extinguish his excitement by being an utter failure during the battle, so you make sure to read whatever he managed to put together about his classmates as soon as possible. There’s still some minutes left before the first Deer students will enter. Exhaustion lulls you into resting your eyes, and the moment your head is cradled in your arms, you doze off.
It’s the third time you have this dream after joining the Officer’s Academy, though calling it a ‘dream’ is a stretch—there is nothing happening, nothing to see. Only white, as pure and unblemished as a young lily blossom in early spring. Only this time this picture—maybe a memory, but of what or where you can’t say—is different.
Wake up, a voice whispers, barely recognisable and dull, spoken behind a wall of water. Wake up.
Your hands weigh a ton. Unable to reach out and grasp it, the dream blurs, slipping through your fingers like sand.
Wake up.
“Herald, wake up,” Claude persists. “You’re drooling on my test papers.”
His hand brushes your shoulder and you jump, all focus on the dream dispersing. Multiple voices fill the room in a shower of sounds, not helping to regain your senses of where you are. It doesn’t help that your right eye throbs dully, and as you rub it to somehow reduce the sensation, white spots dance across your vision.
“So sorry, Herald,” Claude smirks with his hand still hovering over your shoulder. “Didn’t mean to wake you from your beauty rest, but Hilda planned to draw obscene things on your face, and we can’t have that now, can we.”
“Liars never prosper, Claude!” comes Hilda’s response from somewhere in the back of the room. You groan, narrowing your eyes at him. Going back to sleep and stumbling about to try and figure out what’s going on sounds more pleasing than dealing with Claude’s shenanigans.
“Man, what a bummer you won’t join our House during the mock battle,” he continues as if Hilda hasn’t said anything. “If someone asked me, I think to have you fight for the Blue Lions is cheating.”
“But no one asked you?” you offer, indulging him with a weak smile.
“The audacity, right?” Claude rolls his eyes towards the ceiling, leaning against the teacher’s desk. “Just imagine the brilliant schemes we two could work out. Oh, I have an amazing idea. How about you ask Lady Rhea—”
“I’m not asking to be by your side during the battle.”
“Ouch.” Claude places a hand over his chest, right above his heart. “Immediately shut down. Who knew our dearest Herald would be such a heart breaker.”
You shoo him away, not only because he’s getting on your nerves, but there’s also Ignatz and Raphael standing in line, waiting for your attention.
“We’ve heard the students from the other Houses gave you some insight in their abilities,” Ignatz says, tugging a stack of papers to his chest. “We decided to give you one as well.”
“I’m sure you’ll like them,” Raphael chimes in, looking more excited than usual. “I gave Ignatz instructions on how to make our report the best. Forget boring words, Herald, we’ve prepared the real deal!” He rips the papers from Ignatz’s hands and slams them on your table. A crack sounds on the underside, and Raphael leans his whole weight upon the surface, completely oblivious to the protesting creak of the wood.
“Here, we started with Claude, since he’s the big shot and all that,” he explains, opening the first page. It shows Claude, a surprisingly accurate portrait of him, if not a little bit scrawny. He’s wielding a bow, nocking multiple arrows. Seems like Raphael wasn’t the only one giving instructions.
“And here is Leonie, and there’s Lorenz, and oh! That’s us working together as a team!” Raphael beams as he turns the page. In this picture, everyone is assembled, fighting against angry looking soldiers and horned monsters. There’s Lysithea and Marianne shooting lightning bolts from their hands, zapping their opponents. Raphael is carrying a huge stone, on top of it stands Hilda, wielding a mighty axe.
“These are the most accurate file reports I’ve seen,” you say for lack of better words. “It really is a shame I can’t join you for the mock battle.”
“There’s gonna be a next time, no worries!” Raphael gives you a thumbs up, then retreats to his seat, Ignatz by his side. They’re a funny duo, not just because of their different build. Their personalities seem the complete opposite, and yet strangely fit like a child’s box to sort blocks into the right shapes.
The difference between the Golden Deers and Blue Lions, for one, is the noise level. Instead of waiting for you to call them up one by one, they love to shout answers whenever they see fit. Judging who was the first isn’t really easy when four people scream at the same time, so you’ve given up on that—Claude’s policy whoever screams loudest didn’t help all too much as well. Maybe it’s time to ask Byleth about some tips how to handle them. When the bell tolls for the last time for this day, announcing everyone to be relieved of their work, the student clear out faster than during fire drills, leaving you with a turmoil of thoughts and worries and two little voices bickering about how much of a disaster next week is going to be.
After seven days and nights of restless sleep and vigorous training under the vicious supervision of Byleth, the green fields stretching before you end boarding on lush woods, its treetops protruding into the sky. It’s a wonderful day you would enjoy much more without knowing this is a battle field, and the people behind you wait for your command.
“Black Eagle and Golden Deer are in position. Captain Jeralt said the mock battle begins in roughly ten minutes.” Dedue gives you an expectant look, and you give him a curt nod, your mouth dry.
“Thanks. We’ll have a last briefing. After that, we’ll deploy our units.”
Dedue joins his classmates, leaving you to your troubled thoughts. With luck, none of your opponents will reach you, and you won’t have to fight. It’s as if you can feel Byleth’s taste for your blood all across the field, even though right now she’s just a blurry, dark blob in the distance, surrounded by her students.
“Do not worry, Herald.” The hard metal of a gauntlet on your shoulder makes you flinch, backing away from Dimitri. The worry on his face is a mirror of your own, albeit for different reasons. “Everyone will do their best to follow your orders, and fight with everything they've got. Your leadership will lead us to victory.”
“Oh, yeah!” You don’t meet his eyes. “For sure.” Zero pressure and all that. You don’t say that, seeing that most of the students don’t appear to be as nervous as you. Confidence is key, and even though you see none of it in tangible proximity, you can at least fake it until you make it.
Six minutes left. With a deep breath, you try to get hold of yourself, and face the Lions.
“Since we don’t know who will be deployed by Manuela and Byleth, prepare for everything. I want to split the group. Dimitri, Dedue and Mercedes move to the northern forest. Felix, Sylvain, you’re moving west with me.”
Felix pulls a grimace, but before he can say anything, Sylvain throws an arm around his shoulders and leans on him, gracing you with a full grin. “We got your back, Herald.” He earns a whack on his back from his friend.
“Why are we splitting up if our plan is to take out each group separately?” Dedue inquirers. “Isn’t that what we agreed on before?”
“I think the Herald plans to let our opponents think we plan on taking them both on at the same time.” Dimitri throws a quick glance at you. “We’ll draw them in our direction, and once they are near, we close in from both sides.”
You nod. “Precisely. We know the Black Eagles will start far north from us. The Golden Deers are northwest. As soon as one of them moves towards us, we’ll have to defeat them immediately. It will be easier fighting one House, not both at the same time.”
“Look at you, Your Highness.” Sylvain pats him on the shoulder, looking proud. “Someone’s been paying attention in class!”
“Sylvain—” Dimitri’s chiding meets deaf ears as Sylvain already turns away, checking his lance for a last time. But he does beam a little, you think. Or maybe it’s just the sun making everything look much brighter. It’ll go into your report nonetheless. Chances of a victory look good—even if you have to retreat, the Blue Lions might make it on their own.
The bressy sound of a horn echoes across the valley, reverberating in your bones. The mock battle begins.
The weight of the wooden training sword hanging from your hip is foreign; it’s as though you only expect to trip over it. Determined to keep it in its holster, you approach the grove, flanked by Sylvain and Felix—and not a minute too soon. Moving towards you is the first line of enemies, Ignatz, Lorenz and Marianne.
“I think they didn’t see us—” Sylvain starts just as the first arrow flies past his head and hits the trunk beside him with a thunk. For safety purposes, all arrow’s tips are wrapped up in stiff cloth, not intended to leave permanent wounds but surely still capable to deliver nasty bruises like the training swords and lances.
“I think they saw us—” Sylvain’s brilliant new observation ends in a yelp as Felix shoves him out of the line of fire.
“Get down, dumbass!”
You three duck behind bushes and trees, cautiously observing how the others advance, their weapons drawn.
“I’ll go for Ignatz,” you say. “Felix, you’re fast enough to reach Marianne and take her down before she starts healing everyone.”
“Fine, we’ll try your plan.” Felix has his sword drawn already, gripping it tight enough his knuckles turn white. “Try not to get kicked out too soon, will you.”
You blow a strand of hair from out of your eyes, squinting at his back as he jumps out of cover. The last couple of weeks you’ve put in some extra hours of sword practice with Felix. As an exceptional swordsman, noble and diligent in his training unlike anyone else—safe maybe for Dimitri—you imagined no one could teach you as much as possible in the short amount of time until the mission. It took some convincing, but the decisive argument that sold him was your desire to become better to finally have at least a chance against Byleth. If she is stern during practice, Felix is vicious, exploiting the tiniest opening you give in order to make you learn from your mistakes. Your body was a medley of pain and aches after every evening, but now the memory of that very same melody is your marching song towards battle. Then there’s always the knowledge that if you three can distract them long enough before the rest of the Golden Deer students arrive, Dimitri and the rest will close in on your position, and taking down your opponents won’t be difficult.
“Sylvain, Lorenz is yours.”
He answers with a simple salute, grip tight around his training lance, and as you both follow Felix out in the open, an image flickers before you, there and gone like a flame going out with a last glint. An arrow, headed straight at you. Your body moves in instinct, dodging the projectile not a second too late. Judging from the direction of its origin, Ignatz must be just beyond the rocks only a few hundred yards away. You throw a MiasmaΔ in his direction, the black ball carving its path across the grasslands. It hits the stone, chipping parts away and revealing Ignatz, crouching behind it. He looks up, dirt on his cheeks, and adjusts his glasses before ducking out of his cover, another arrow already ready on his bow.
Another arrow hits him on his back, hard enough to get him down on his knees. Mercedes’ accuracy isn’t as good as Ashe’s, but the determination carved into her face makes up for lack of skill. Dimitri and Dedue are right on her heels, but a single look thrown over your shoulder shows that Felix and Sylvain have everything under control. Coming out victorious as well, save for Sylvain pressing a hand against his ribs, they were still complete. The knowledge of that makes you sigh in relief, a new surge of hope soaring inside you.
“I knew we shouldn’t have listened to Claude’s dubious plan.” Lorenz’s bickering is still audible, even as the three proceed to leave the battle grounds to meet up with Jeralt. You’re really curious to see what exactly Claude had in mind, but diverting your focus for just a second could become dangerous. Instead, you turn towards the students.
“Stay close,” you order, waiting until Mercedes is finished checking Sylvain's injuries. “We’re going to move further towards the Golden Deers and eliminate them first.” Flexing your fingers against the slow growth of getting used casting spells, your group begins to move further north.
Out of the corner of your eyes, you notice Dimitri buckling and unbuckling his spear from his back. Out of lack for the right words, and because the first rush of adrenaline still courses through your body, you jostle against him, wearing a grin on your face.
“Look lively, Your Highness,” you advise. “All that nervous fumbling isn’t what a leader is supposed to do.”
A tiny gasps leaves him, more an exhale than anything else, but he turns towards you, slightly flushed. Bringing his hands to his sides, it’s too obvious he’s tensing his body so they don’t stray again—like a statue that’s on the edge of shattering at the tiniest movement.
“You’re right, of course.” He lowers his head a little. “I just keep thinking that the Black Eagle students wait for us in that direction as well. Some are surely moving towards us as we speak.”
“Are you worried about Byleth?” you wonder, and more as an afterthought add, “Or Edelgard?”
“Anyone who is not worried about Byleth is a fool, if you ask me,” he replies with a crease between his pale eyebrows. “And well, this is our first chance to prove ourselves, being the heirs to the ruling factions. I know Edelgard is exceptionally strong. And Claude surely has an ace up his sleeve. You are right, Herald. Nervousness is a sign of hesitation, of weakness. I will be better than that.” A new fire comes alive in his eyes as he strides onward, catching up to Mercedes and Sylvain to compliment her on the excellent shot from before.
The epiphany really comes only now, fast and hard like a lightning bolt, that these children will drink in everything you have to offer—advices, orders, simple words of encouragement—simply for the title that is strapped around your neck. The weight of that responsibility slows your steps, which allows for another worry to quickly catch up: has everything you have taught them so far been right? Do they really know how to exploit the advantages certain classes have over others; will a strategic retreat even occur to them in the right time before it’s too late.
Doubt is like poison, slowly eating you from the inside. This mock battle won’t just be a lesson for the students. It will also test if you have put them on the right path, and the realisation unfolds a new conviction inside you, breathing new wind into your sails.
You quickly catch up to them, another rush of encouraging words on your lips when another image flickers on and off, painting your sight red. You freeze, raising an arm, hand formed into a fist.
“Halt!” you shout, processing what you just saw. The students pause, forming a loose circle around you. The throbbing from before settles back in, more persistent now like someone’s knocking against the back of your skull to get your attention. You try to ignore that and focus on categorising every student’s ability in alphabetical order.
“Linhardt,” you gasp, eyes wide open and glued on Dedue.
The students exchange worried glances. Sylvain is the first to speak. “No, Herald,” he says. “Linhardt’s the pretty boy with all the books, you know. Who sleeps just about anywhere, like a cat. That’s our Dedue here.”
“No, I mean Linhardt has Nosferatu,” you quickly explain, flailing your hands in hope to express yourself better. It doesn’t look like it helps. “Linhardt is the only one left who can use Nosferatu, and he’s going to land a good hit on Dedue. And with good, I mean bad. If he hits you, you’re down, Dedue.” Because only that makes sense, as Marianne is already standing on the sidelines and you haven’t heard about anyone else learning the skill. Undoubtedly a Nosferatu will hit Dedue if you don’t change course or take the spell caster out first.
Dedue steps forward. “Should it give us an advantage against our enemy, I will gladly face the opponent and go down if it means it won’t interfere with our progress towards the Golden Deer students.”
“Sacrificing yourself for a mere praise from the boar, is that what you hope for?” Felix demands, or more like snarls, his handsome face crumpling into an ugly look of contempt. “Pathetic.”
“Sacrifice is a big word to throw around during a mock battle, don’t you think,” Sylvain unhelpfully throws in, his posture a little too relaxed in the light of the conflict that’s about to break out.
Dedue shakes his head. “I am simply fulfilling my duty,” he states. “Anything that will bring His Highness victory.”
“You would also run head first into an ambush and get yourself killed, is that it?” Felix grimaces. “Blindly following orders—”
“Okay, okay, that’s enough!” Your raised voice makes them pause, and you use that second to grab lead of the conversation. “We don’t even know if Linhardt is going to be alone or joined by other Eagle students. What do you think will your little act accomplish, Dedue?”
He sets his mouth into a grim, hard line, unable to come up with a satisfying answer that isn’t a repeat of what he just said.
“You’ll have a tough time going against Black Eagles with all their magic users, so stay with Dimitri. Go and deal with the rest of the Golden Deer students. And you—” You meet Felix’s glare with narrowed eyes. “A battlefield isn’t the place to throw around petty disagreements. You would do well to remember that.”
“Understood.” He rips the training sword from its holster. “But let me go take down that mage. I’ll cut him down swiftly.”
“We’ll go together. I’m not leaving any of you on your own. Take care of Claude,” you tell Dimitri, showing with a nod that you fully trust in his leading ability. “We’ll meet east from the barricades in exactly one hour.”
He doesn’t shy away from you glare. “Understood. Take care you two.”
Felix takes the lead with long, eager strides. As you follow him, you rub your eye, wincing at the pinprick-like pain. The dull throb doesn’t cease this time, and if you had to take a guess, there’s only once left for the Crest to activate before you reach your limit. So far, nothing has helped you to ascertain when exactly a foresight occurs, and leaving it to pure chance is like grasping a loose rope in hopes that it is tied to something somewhere as you take the leap. Maybe Hanneman will make more sense of it laters.
“You should have stayed with the others,” Felix says after a moment, scanning your surroundings for any sign of the enemy. It sounds more like a simple statement than an accusation. “I can handle someone like Linhardt on my own.”
“I said before, we don’t know if he’s alone. I highly doubt it.” It’s like Dimitri said before: Underestimating Byleth will surely end in casualties and defeat. You don’t consider it far-fetched that she has sent a non-magic class with Linhardt, but who that will be is left to be determined.
“No matter how many accompany him. Be it two or three or all of them, I will take them down.”
“It takes more than one person to win a war.” Though you don’t doubt Felix might try it by himself anyway. “You’ll notice soon enough that you will rely on your comrades.”
“I will rely on them as long as they don’t get in my way.”
“So charming,” you mumble to yourself as you two round a mound. It really is none of your business, but you're actually curious about what is going on between him and Dedue. The moment you finish outweighing the pros and cons of trying to go down that rabbit hole, the air around you changes, barely noticeable save for a change of wind—it completely stills for a second, but that is enough to realise what’s happening.
“Felix—” you manage before the Nosferatu explodes in front of you, knocking you to the ground. Before the mock battle, all magicians were instructed to weaken their spells; no lasting damage should befall any of the participants. Only because of that you manage to climb back on your feet, only left with dizziness that makes the world spin. The jarring sound of metal clashing against metal clears your mind a little, and when you turn around, Felix and Ferdinand are clashing blades.
You turn further, and there he is, a hand raised in your direction. “Sorry, Herald,” Linhardt says. He doesn’t sound sorry at all. “The professor threatened with extra homework if we would hold back against you.”
“Of course she did,” you mumble, grabbing your sword with sweaty hands. Two against two is fair, and you have no doubt that Felix will hold his ground against Ferdinand. The only solution to your little problem named Linhardt is to get as close as possible, and make use of your advantage in meagre sword skills.
Another Nosferatu is sent your way, but this time you dodge, the hair on your neck standing on end. Somehow your body automatically shies away from Faith magic like a cat fleeing from water. Just one more hit will surely be enough to throw you out of the mock battle, and you can’t have that, not when the picture of Dimitri’s resolute expression is carved into your mind.
You close the distance, all nerves tensed in anticipation, completely focused on trying to feel where the next spell is going to land. As Linhardt retreats into the woods, his sight obscured by trees, you dive after him, shoving twigs out of your way. A shadow moves through the undergrowth; every muscle in your body locks up, but you plunge forward, sword raised—
Linhardt gasps when he finds himself pressed against a tree, your sword at his throat. With both hands up, he doesn’t move an inch, simply blinking at you. Somewhere above you, a bird cries out; a branch breaks. Linhardt makes a face like he jammed his foot in a door he slammed shut himself.
“I surrender,” he says. “Getting beat up and spending time in the infirmary doesn’t sound as good as reading tomes in the library.”
“You sure?” Your heart beats so loud in your chest, it’s a miracle it doesn’t break through your ribcage and fly off. “Byleth might drown you in homework for that.”
He shrugs. “I call it a strategic retreat. I’ll just have to—” A yawn. “—convince the professor.” Another yawn. You begin to see the ulterior motive behind his surrender. Squinting at him, you proceed to bind his hands with a dark spell. Black shackles appear around his wrists, locking them tight together. As you make your way out of the grove, you hope Felix had the same success.
That thought immediately dies when you return to the plain and see Jeralt heaving an unconscious Felix on the back of his horse, a battered Ferdinand by his side.
“Ah, Herald.” Even though beaten up black and blue, Ferdinand still manages a smile. It looks a little lopsided with his swollen cheek and the dried blood on his upper lip. “I don’t mean to offend, but I hope you return because Linhardt defeated you in mighty combat?” A second too late he sees the magic binds around Linhardt’s wrists. His face falls. “My, Linhardt.”
“You don’t quite look so good yourself,” Linhardt throws back without any heat in his voice. He sounds rather bored. Tired.
“Excuse me, but what happened. What’s wrong with Felix?” you ask, turning to Jeralt. Before he can answer, Ferdinand chimes in, “He fought splendidly! Though I had no doubt in that, he is a noble after all. Yet, after ringing me to the ground, he lost consciousness. By my honour as the heir of House Aegir, I cannot take advantage of that. We both shall step out of battle.”
“He passed out?” Now that you take a good look at him, he’s still pale, unhealthily so. Slick sweat glues his dark hair to his forehead, and the skin beneath his eyes shimmers slightly blue—lack of sleep.
“Overexertion, I guess,” Jeralt says now. He pulls Linhardt to his side, and gives his shackles a thoughtful look. “I’ll take these three with me. You go and continue the mock battle, Herald.”
“But…” It doesn’t feel right to leave Felix alone. Even though he technically isn’t, you imagine it would be better to wake up to a friendly face.
“He’ll be fine.” Jeralt gives you a strange sideway glance. “The other brats rely on you right now, don’t they? Go to them.”
He’s right, of course. The mission isn’t over yet, and with a strong combatant like Felix missing, victory has just slipped from your grasp.
There is the meeting point. There it is, and no student from the Lion House is in sight. The minutes pass in long stretches, ticking away until it’s impossible to tell if time moves on or holds still. Holding out between the trees, you look in both directions—for your comrades and the enemy. For whatever reason, Byleth has decided not to advance to your position, and you aren’t sure what that’s supposed to mean. More minutes pass in aggravating silence, heavy and oppressing, and then—
“Herald!” Dimitri’s voice rings through the woods. Your head snaps to him, and there they are, the Blue Lions tearing through the woods, a yellow flag with a deer on it waving behind them.
“You did it!” Joy and relief spreads through you as you stumble towards them. “You guys really did it!” They shuffle around you like kittens searching for warmth, and something tight uncoils inside your chest. Is this what Byleth always feels when she’s in front of her class?
“Hilda and Claude were mighty opponents, but nothing we couldn’t handle,” Dimitri reassures, but then a shadow jumps over his features. “Unfortunately, Mercedes had to leave. We couldn’t reach her in time to step in.”
“Step in,” Sylvain repeats, muttered under his breath as he brushes red locks from his sweaty forehead. “I want to see you stepping in when Hilda swings that axe like a lunatic and not scream like a little girl.”
“Where is Felix?” Dedue inquirers, ignoring Sylvain.
Your shoulders drop. “Well, Linhardt was accompanied by Ferdinand, and while I pursued Linhardt, they fought. None of them emerged unscathed, although I feel Felix drew the shorter straw.”
“Felix?” Dimitri repeats. He sounds as if you just tried to convince him it’s going to rain butterscotch pie later. “Our Felix lost?”
“Not exactly the fight, but I’m sure his pride took a hard beating.”
“Well, that leaves four against four.” Dimitri brings a hand up to his chin, a worry crease between his eyebrows. “And they still have Edelgard and the Professor.”
“And we got the Herald and you!” Sylvain beams. “I say we wrap this up and celebrate our victory with a nice dinner and maybe some ale? How does that sound?”
“Sacrilegious.” Your voice is drier than the crisp leaves cracking under your feet. “Aren’t you too young for alcohol?”
“Too young and irresponsible,” Dimitri agrees with you, looking tired of Sylvain’s antics. “But I don’t object to a celebratory dinner.”
“That is, if we win.” Dedue reads your mind, and brings the conversation back on the right course.
“I assume the Black Eagles are holding position. They’re waiting for us,” you say, briefly checking everyone’s state. Safe for dirt and scratches, they’re still doing good, though having fought already, the Blue Lions are on a slight disadvantage. You can only hope some of Byleth’s students dropped out facing the Golden Deers.
“We shouldn’t keep them waiting then.” Sylvain winks, playing with the grip of his lance. The smile that flirts with his lips is threatening.
“Keep your guard up.” Dimitri shares a single, meaningful glance with every one of you, then leads your little group out of the forest. Whatever Byleth has planned, you hope that you’ll be ready for it.

• Cormag from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, he was definitely one of my first video game crushes and everything about him makes me so,,, just attached to him I guess??? I also love that he's not just some random generic enemy guy but a possible ally with a fully fleshed out background, truly I could go on about Cormag but I won't.
The Legend of Zelda;;
• Ghirahim. I can't justify or explain it but Ghirahim.
DevilMan;;
• Akira Fudo!!! I know he's the protag and you're supposed to like him but I'm just emotionally attached to him, mostly the 80's/90's ova Akira in specific but all Akira variations are so good to me.
Castlevania;;
• Lyudmil! It was hard to choose but Lyudmil is a character I love very dearly despite only showing up in the radio show, he's very sweet and his story just breaks my heart, especially with all the heavy implications throughout the radio show itself.
Silent Hill;;
• Murphy Pendleton. I uh,,, have a lot of respect(attachment, actually) for dads in media that are caring and protective of their children and with the story of SH;Downpour, Murphy fits the bill extremely well. He's also really funny sometimes and all around I just like him a lot.
Resident Evil;;
• It's hard to choose between Luis and Piers but I'll have to go with Piers just because I cried more during his death. Anyways I hated Piers at first because I just didn't like how he treated Chris but then the story progressed and I slowly fell in love with his character and now I'm obsessed with him.
Bloodstained;;
• Miriam my beloved!!!! She's definitely a character I love and respect a lot because she's just,,, so good? Not as fleshed out as I'd like but that's how it is for any of the characters in the series save for maybe Zangetsu and Gebel.
Stardew Valley;;
• ALEX!!! I love Alex so much it's not even funny, he's got a funky a little lifestyle and I rock with him so hard, especially because I don't know if I want to be him or be with him half the time.
Telltale's The Walking Dead;;
• I love Louis so much. I don't technically need to justify why because he's not some funky dancing demon like Ghirahim but I just think he's neat and wonderful.
Peach Girl;;
• The whole series is a shit show that I love so much but Kairi (or Kylie in the old manga adaptation) holds a very special place in my heart, he's funny and charismatic albeit some of the stuff he says and does to Momo is extremely annoying and makes me mad, especially near the end of where the anime leaves off.

FFXV anon from yesterday, with other fandoms that seem your type
FF7(Zack is your type if Prompto is, but Cloud is also Loveable Dork)
FF13 kinda fits the aesthetic I've gotten from your vibe? The story can be hard to follow(I didn't find it hard, nor did the person who got me into final fantasy as a whole, but apparently a lot of people do and hate it?) Idk man it's pretty and very futuristic.
Jujutsu Kaisen. Fits your vibe perfectly.
Hunter×Hunter, killugon would probably be your ship there?
Kizuna Ai, the Vtuber, seems like she'd give you a laugh
On the subject of vtubers, Korone. And Okayu.
Fire emblem 100%
Ive seen genshin in your posts so ik you like that, and with that i suggest Honkai if you haven't played it
Elsword? Not for everyone but you might like it? Laby is my main, love her to bits
Might come back with more later. Do you listen to vocaloid? You seem the type. Feel free to suggest stuff for me lol I'll give anything a shot!
Hello again, anon! This is... quite a bit, so let me just go down in the order of your list
The FFVII remaster has been on my radar since I follow some of the voice actors who were in it on twitter, and it seems like a classic for a reason, though I think that between it and FFXV I would probably pick the latter first. But FFXIII I know absolutely nothing about, so I’ll see about checking that out sometime to see if your assessment is correct!
Now, JJK is something that I’ve definitely considered on one particular day where I had a big hankering for shounen anime, but I ended up starting Haikyuu instead (though I didn’t get too far in that). The animation looks super nice though, I think I’m confident in saying that it’s currently rotting on my watchlist lol
HxH I have actually seen! I binged the whole thing back in winter of 2021 and sustained critical emotional damage from it. You’re absolutely correct that killugon is my ship, they’re just... so good. Definitely one of my favorite anime that I’ve seen
So there’s kind of a funny story with vtubers. I’ve kinda sworn off falling into that hole purely because my roommate is a huge vtuber simp (I say that affectionately btw. She’s working towards becoming an independent vtuber herself and it’s genuinely really cool). If I were to start looking into them though, I’d probably start with Calliope Mori and Kureiji Ollie. I like their vibes
I was actually a huge nut for Fire Emblem back in junior high school. I’ve played pretty much all of the newer games, and I’m just hoping they remaster the old ones so that I can experience their stories. Echoes and Three Houses have probably been my favorites that I’ve played, though Takumi and Leo from Fates will always hold a special place in my heart because they were one of my first otps
Honkai I’ve seen a bit of because my roommate plays it sometimes, but its world and characters just don’t grab me in the same way that Genshin’s do, so I think I’m gonna give it a pass in the long run. I’ll stick to just one main gacha hell
I was actually big on Elsword back in junior high as well. Lu and Ciel were my mains until Ain stole my heart and refused to return it. I doubt I’ll ever go back because grinding is such a huge pain in the ass, but Apostasia will always be my beloved angsty boy
Oh, vocaloid. Okay. Vocaloid was one of the main things that kind of led me to anime, so I do absolutely listen to it. Since you asked, I’ll give you a few recs!
- I’m Glad that You’re Evil Too, by Pinnochio-P feat. Hatsune Miku
- Becoming Potatoes, by Neru feat. Kagamine Rin and Len
- Pokapoka Planet, by Harumaki Gohan feat. Hatsune Miku
And as a little SynthV Bonus:
- Aura, by GHOST feat. Solaria
Admittedly I haven’t been listening to vocaloid as much recently (A lot more video game OSTs by the fault of Genshin and also orchestra), but these are some reliable bops.

Fic Writer Meme
I was tagged by @thou-breath-of-autumns-being and @eldritch-elrics. Answers under the cut.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
135
2. What’s your total AO3 wordcount?
387198
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
There’s 22 of them, using a sensible-ish count. There’s Age of Sigmar, MCU, Dragon Age, Dragonshield (yes, the card sleeves), Dungeons and Dragons, Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Guild Wars 2, Warhammer 40k, Heaven Will Be Mine, We Know The Devil, Keychain of Creation, Overwatch, Revolutionary Girl Utena, The Adventure Zone, The Magnus Archives, Silmarillion, Undertale, Voltron, TGCF, MDZS, Nirvana in Fire
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
‘The Heat Talking’ - Overwatch omegaverse. It’s popularity is very explicable :P.
‘A Stained Glass Variation of The Truth’ - Xianle Trio sickfic, featuring Mu Qing have a lot of feelings about looking after Xie Lian. This is one of the ones where I look at it’s popularity and go “[nods] my audience has Good Taste.”
‘Let Bastion Say ‘Fuck’‘ - Overwatch crackfic. I wrote for Overwatch a while ago. Those fics are very much not my best work. And Yet.
‘though shadows fall’ - TGCF HuaLian post nightmare hurt/comfort. (which reminds me, I should really write some HuaLian post nightmare hurt/comfort where Hua Cheng is the one who has a nightmare.)
‘All That Can Be Done’ - Overwatch Genyatta angst featuring Zenyatta dying of a God AI virus.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to, I really do, but... if I reply, the comment no longer shows up on the ao3 homepage. I do intend to reply, but the lure of having comments on my homepage wins out most times.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably either ‘All That Can Be Done’, the aforementioned fic where Zenyatta dies of a God AI virus and gets killed by Genji, or ‘Always Neater In Morality Plays’ where Sazed successfully poisons and kills Taako.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t really write much crossover fanfiction?
...Though I am right now doing an rp featuring a character from a historical tv show set in the Tang dynasty accidentally time travelling into an AU version of the Handmaid’s Tale, so, uh, that’s probably the wildest crossover I’ve been involved in.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yes. I’ve received a few “you’re characterisation is bad and you should feel bad” and “how dare you write something to your tastes and not my tastes!”
‘Always Neater In Morality Plays’ got a... bad reaction. Including a popular blogger vague posting about in a way that made it obvious exactly what fic it is and how grody they found it. They may not have linked the fic directly, but, uh, everyone knew. (And I may have also sent an ill-advised ask along the lines of ‘you have the right to vagueblog whatever fic you like, but for the love of peace could you at least check who is following you, so you don’t put ‘oh god, isn’t this fic the creepiest thing ever?’ straight onto the dash of the author?” And also a chunk of the TAZ fandom blocked me*.
And then several years later I found out ‘snuff’ meant something different than what I thought it meant (I thought it just meant ‘focus on major character death!) which added an embarassing glace cherry on top of that sundae of bad.
*This became sort of funny when some of these people got into the Magnus Archives. “Oh, so you draw the line at graphic depictions of poisoning, but someone exploding into a shower of worms is fine???”
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do, yes. As for what kind-- well, my ao3 exists and is a relatively comprehensive survey.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nooooot to my knowledge?
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but if anyone wants to-- [makes ‘call me’ gesture].
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, not yet. I’d be potentially interested in doing one, maybe one of those ones where one person writes one chapter and then another person writes the next. At the moment I have a friend who is also interested in maybe doing that, we just don’t currently align on fandoms.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
[whine] Don’t make me choose between my babies!
14. What’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
‘A Shattered Angel And A Broken Fist’. It was one of the earlier fics I wrote, back before I learned that if I wanted to write something long, I needed to have an idea of how it was going to end. I lost momentum and now... I honestly have no clue what should happen next? I have re-read and gone “yep, some stuff should happen. Not sure what stuff.” So while a lot of people like it and it would be nice to finish, its probably not happening.
15. What are your writing strengths?
Hmm, I think I’m reasonably good at dialogue? I’m honestly not sure what my strengths are. I don’t mean this in a low self confidence way, more that I know I don’t have an outside perspective on my writing, and like a fish, I’m not super aware of the water I’m swimming in.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I have a bad habit of people have conversation in Blank Windowless Voids of No Description.
I also have a less bad habit of trying to fill those voids with a) geology and b) Australian fauna and flora. This causes problems when the pov character has no reason to know geology, and the story is not set in Australia.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I am one of those people who pretty much only speaks English, except for the a bit of “Je m’appelle Wolffy. Le chat est petit.” So I don’t write dialogue in other languages. Too much risk of embarrassing error, for not much gain, when you can just use italics or something.
I do have a lot of thoughts about translation conventions in fic where the characters would not be speaking English, and things like whether to live honoriffics. The thoughts are a bit unformed, but mostly revolve around being consistent at least within a fic (no characters being “Your Highness” in one paragraph and “dianxia” the next), trying to avoid the affect you sometimes find in anime fics were every third word is in Japanese, and also trying to maintain character voice. (I occaisionally have moments of “yes, there is an English translation for what this character calls this other character, but it’s not what they canonically say and it’s going to bother me deeply if I only use English.”)
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Depending on how you define ‘fandom’ and how you draw the line between historical fiction and historical rpf, my first fandom was the Bagoas fandom. Not the Bagoas what followed Alexander the Great around, no, the vizier who was around before him.
...I was like twelve at the time, just to make this weirder.
19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
[whines harder] don’t make me pick between my babies!
