You and Chris met in junior year through Nick. Nick thought you two's vibes just fit so well, and so after 3 years, you finally started dating. But none of you ever told the internet, since Chris was scared of all the jealous fangirls hating on you.

Now that was all about to change. You're fiddling with your fingers while sitting just outside of the camera's view, waiting for your boyfriend to start the stream and introduce you. He turns, and flashes a calming smile, "It's ok baby, they'll like you." You give him a nervous smile and nod. Of course he thought that, he wasn't the one dating the Chris Sturniolo (that would be weird). Chris starts the stream, and waits for the viewers to increase before loudly exclaiming, "HEYYY CHATTT. WELCOME TO THE STREAMMM." You read the comments coming in, ranging from greetings to thirsting over him. Some people ask where Matt is. "Sorry guys, no Matty B today. Both my brothers left me." He pretends to wipe a fake tear while you roll your eyes. "Anyways...I have a VERY special guest here with me today, and y'all won't believe it... BUT I GET BITCHES." The chat immediately fills with 'WHATTTT' 'WHO??' 'YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS' 'CHRISTOPHER STURNIOLO GET YOUR LYING ASS OUT OF HERE' 'NO YOU'RE MINEEE.' You swallow, the words on screen not helping to settle your nerves. Chris waits for a moment, then grabs the arm of your chair, and rolls it over. "HERE SHE ISS. This is Y/N, my girlfriend of a year. Say hi!" You wave to the camera with a small smile. For a second, the chat stops. Then, messages flood through at a rapid pace, and you barely catch a glimpse of one before another's replaced it. From what you can see, people think you're pretty, they congratulate Chris, and he's sitting there with a goofy-ass smile on his face.

But then the air shifts. Jealous fans start spamming, dissing your face, your body, your hair, your smile, your makeup...everything. Insecurities you hadn't had since high school bubble up, and Chris' eyes widen. He's frozen for a second, before snapping out of his horrified daze, remembering how you got bullied in high school. "Hey...HEY. CHAT. CALM THE FUCK DOWN" But it's too late. It feels like nails are being raked across your skin, sticking in your brain and making you believe everything these people are saying. Obviously they didn't know you had issues with your looks, they were just hating on the woman who'd 'stolen' their man.

Chris is pissed, rightfully. He'd been so excited to share this part of his life with his fans, but their vibe was completely off. He mutes his mic, and takes your wrist, sitting you down on his bed. By now, tears have started gathering in your eyes. "Hey...look at me. Baby, don't listen to them, they're all just jealous someone's dating your hot boyfriend" He grins cheesily. You sniffle, and roll your eyes. "Shut up."

Meanwhile, other people have started cracking down on the haters, calling them out for being jealous and asking for you two to come back. Chris walks back over, and turns the mic on. "Alright chat, you guys get one more chance to see this thick- I mean very beautiful woman on this stream. If there's more hate i'm turning it off, capisce?" The chat spams apologies and agrees wholeheartedly. Some haters still get through, but their messages are drowned out by support. You walk over slowly, sit back down, and Chris loops an arm around your shoulders. "Ok, let's do this again. This is my amazing, hot girlfriend Y/N. Introduce yourself babe." You nod, and talk about yourself a little, still a bit camera shy. Everyone's gushing over how cute Chris is with you, and how nice you are. Questions are being asked every second, and you answer as many as you can while your man sits beside you, absolutely ecstatic. All too soon, for the viewers anyway, Chris decides to end the stream. You say goodbye, and the people watching are begging for more. "Maybe we might do a second one later guys. Ooh, we can play 20 questions or something, how does that sound babe?" Chris asks. "Hmm...that's a good idea. We can answer like, couple questions too" You agree. You guys say your goodbyes, and then turn off the stream. Chris picks you up, slinging you over his shoulder and throwing you down onto his bed as you shriek. "CHRIS!" He gives you another goofy smile, and lays down next to you. "Sorry about what they said baby" He murmurs. He felt bad, the one time you decide to come on camera with him turning out horribly. You smile and shake your head. "It's ok Chris. Not my fault they can't handle me dating my 'hot boyfriend'" You mock his words from earlier. He chuckles, and rolls his eyes. "I'm not just hot. I'm pretty smart too" "No you're not, idiot"

I went to Sydney for Alphonse Mucha

One thing to know about me, I was an interior design major back in my home country. I absolutely sucked at it, but I fell in love with Art History. In that minor, our professors taught us about different art styles through the ages and bit by bit I saw the progress of art through the ages. I loved the OG Gothic Style, Romanesque, was disillusioned with Baroque and Rococo from the west... It was too Western focused and it didn't interest me as much (because I was an Asian kid) until we got towards the end of the 19th century where the grandparents of weebs (of which I am a part of) hailed from and Japonisme was a thing. Japonisme inspired so much beautiful art and it triggered a domino effect that ultimately led to Art Nouveau where Alphonse Mucha was a main character.

This was it. My favourite art style! I can never go back to loving other art styles after discovering Art Nouveau. It spoke to me about how feminine it was and it awakened something from my mostly masculine soul. I wanted to see more of these beautiful girls surrounded by flowers and stars, wearing kimono-inspired clothes in pretty pastels. The macaroni hair only added to the romanticism of it all. This is what love is like, but in art form!

Fast forward to 2024, The Mucha Foundation collaborated with the Art Gallery of New South Wales to host over 200 of this master's works which was "the most comprehensive exhibition ever seen in Australia of this visionary artist's work". I had to see it. I needed to see it! I am a big fan of Mucha and Art Nouveau, and one of my dreams was to go to Paris, Brussels, and Prague for all of the beautiful swirly-whirlies. Being a Brisbanite, I was exited. Please come to my city! Please, please, please! But AGNSW said "sorry, it's exclusive to Sydney."

Dammit. It's off to Sydney I go. I donned my Sailor Moon dress, packed my bag for a 3 day trip with my partner just so I could see this legend's works and boy, I was not disappointed. I learned to love Mucha and his works even more. We landed in Sydney, didn't check in our hotel, and went straight to the main quest:

Outside, they had this big banner of Mucha's name. Inside was this glorious area that showcased Summer (left) and Rose (right). Oh wait, the exhibit is next door. So we went to the more modern building, down two floors, bought tickets, and enjoyed the art.

In the newer building next door, I was treated to pre-art nouveau Mucha. We learned about what his life was like before his popularity. He designed some clothes for a theatre, hung out with everyone's buddy Paul Gaugin, Ludek Marold and Annah the Javanese. The tour guide said, "if he wasn't a painter, he would've been a great photographer".

Then we were treated to the meat of the exhibit: the Sarah Bernhardt stuff, his lithographs, his sketches, but what struck me most were his concept art to reality. (Excuse my phone's shadow. For some reason, AGNSW decided to put these works on a 45° angle under bright lights. The girl beside me even said "fucking glare!" and I wholeheartedly agreed.)

We were treated to so many wonderful works and I cried when I saw parts of Le Pater. I'm an atheist but this made me think that maybe there is a god. Maybe. But still, beautiful artwork that left me speechless.

I got to stand next to my favourite work of his: White Star. Joy!

At the end of the exhibit, the tour guide talked about how Mucha who was somewhat influenced by Japan, now influenced Japan. Now we come full circle with anime and manga characters depicted in art nouveau styled paintings and posters. Oh boy, we had our Lord Yoshitaka Amano's works in the gallery as well. I was so lucky to see works of my two favourite artists in one day!

It was almost 2PM by the time we finished the tour. We spent at least 4 hours in the gallery after landing just because I fangirled and was willing to spend money on Mucha. Yeah, I bought stuff. A reproduction of Alphonse Mucha's original "Documents Decoratifs" which focused more on his industrial design work (jewellery, cutlery, furniture etc) which I rarely see on the internet, a set of badges and make-up from Japanese brand MilleFée.

I went to Sydney for Alphonse Mucha and it was worth it. I end this rabid fangirling with the parting words of the Art Gallery of New South Wales' tour guide: Mucha's style has never been as well loved and as well represented as it is in Japan.

Welcome to the first and terrible installment of Roses’ rants! (Not really a rant but uhh… just some yapping)

My opinions on the “Anti Piastri” thing!

Well it… sucks in my opinion. yeah sure, Oscar may not be the best driver ever. But I do feel like it’s useless to make an entire tag based on just blatantly hating on a driver for stuff he was basically ordered to by McLaren, same with Lando.

Honestly, for me “anti piastri” is basically just a tag created by Lando fangirls on either tumblr or heck even the official McLaren discord server who decided to replicate Team LH’s Abu Dhabi 2021 meltdown, except switch it with Hungary 2024. Which honestly is giving us Lando fans a bad wrap

This claim personally bothers me, yes Oscar did win the Grand Prix by team orders, in which brings me to say this. Don’t hate the driver, hate the team, yes, I wholeheartedly agree with what I just said, don’t hate Oscar piastri for McLarens’ very poor team orders since Oscar can’t control what happens up with the strategists, and it’s not like he was on the radio saying “I want the win” because well- let’s be honest, when has a driver ever said that? Seriously, that’s not something he or anyone could say.

To be honest (I’m gonna bring in Team LH again) anti piastri’s version of Abu Dhabi 2021 is Hungary 2024, there’s pretty much nothing we can do now about the race (this part of my yappering is pretty much bad I’m sorry)

(I don’t feel like writing more of this right now since I wanna eat dinner so I’ll end it off here, but if you want more reasonings to why I don’t approve of anti piastri please slip into my dms and fight me over it because this is just- childish, also if I got anything wrong please let me know, I’m tired and I had honestly a shit day and this thing didn’t make it better for me)

God I love everything about Yves so much he’s so powerful it’s ridiculous.

It’s like being besties with the last boss right off the bat and now you get to play life on easy mode with this cheat code of a man.

I can’t wait for the “The Court™️” arc where Yves wipes the floor with Evangeline and everyone related to her.

Also Yves always seems like such a cool character who has everything under control so those rare moments where he shows extreme emotions like when he cries or gets cuteness aggression hits so much harder. It makes you wonder how he would’ve been if he hadn’t gone through all he did and had to adapt :( Whenever he cries I wanna hug him.

Also unrelated but god I wanna play with his hair so bad. I wanna have cuddling sessions with him and start braiding little chunks of his hair while being wrapped in a blanket with him and a movie playing in front of us. I hope he likes movie nights and Ghibli movies because with me he’ll have a lot of them

Yves would love to have those sessions very much. You would think that he knew nothing about Ghibli movies, but he researched so much about it, that you may think he was on the production team itself. Yves just likes to hear you rave about your favorite things, that is why he would be quiet and smile, expressing his interest in listening to your info dumping.

He would sit still as you weave his hair into braids, watching the wonderfully made animation in front of him. Yves has already analyzed it numerous times to know what the main themes of it were, the hidden easter eggs, and different fan interpretations of it. Yves understands why you love it so much, be it due to its beautifully expressed story or because you simply relate to the characters.

Give and take, you play and braid his hair, Yves expected to do the same to you. Of course, he is going to maximize your tingles by massaging your scalp and controlling his strength. He prefers when you're the one in his lap, where his form encases you like a crescent. That way, he could witness all those precious reactions to key parts of the movie, especially the ones he deems new or unseen before.

It's cold, so you snuggle deeper into him, pulling the blanket around you tighter. Yves would press a kiss on your head, ideally, movie nights would happen after you and he are fed, freshly showered, blowdried, and mildly sleepy. He wouldn't have any makeup on, so you don't have to worry about smudging red lipstick on your face.

Because he has a flatscreen television in front of the bed, you can fall asleep anytime you want. Soft, plush pillows will surround you, strategically placed so that you have less of an urge to leave his arms, let alone the bed.

Perhaps you would absentmindedly toy with the brush of his braids while your eyes are trained on the screen, but Yves doesn't mind, because he would similarly soothingly rub your arms or thighs, or twirl a lock of your hair out of habit. He would have numerous pillows propping his back up at the best angle, becoming your personal couch for the night.

Maybe you might yearn for more media regarding a specific Studio Ghibli movie. Perhaps you didn't like the ending, it was too bleak and sad for you. So you cope by consuming fanmade content that aligns with your ideal.

Yves knows this, he monitors all of your internet activities after all. He would pretend that he wholeheartedly agrees with your take and even sketch fanart of your favorite characters. His work would be so well made, so intricate that you would think it was an official lost chunk of the actual movie. He's been an expert in mimicry since he was a mere boy, hence, copying its art style and creating a narrative that doesn't seem too far off from the movies is simply child play to him.

You could fangirl/fanboy over the characters with him. He would gladly join you and add fuel to the fire by feeding you his own headcanons, analyses, and drawings. You might think that he's even more enthusiastic than you are with the way he is obsessively collecting observations about the works of Studio Ghibli. You knew that he would make it big in the fanbase if he published his thoughts and creations surrounding the media, but they're for your eyes and ears only.

It is baffling to you because his art is god-like. Yet, he is content with an audience of one: the love of his life.

Yves will allow you to have movie nights daily. He gets to hold you and you get to relax. It's a win-win. During days when movie nights aren't appropriate (i.g., you fall sick, and have to rest), he would just alter your environment to make you sleepier than usual. No need to tell you no, you're already dozing off with your head on his chest.

It would pain him to undo his braids. It was your hard work. But he has to take care of his hair, so he would gently pull the bands off and proceed with his regular haircare regimen. The same goes for you, he would let your hair breathe as you sleep, and he wouldn't want you to suffer from hair damage or loss either.

But that only means you get to braid his hair again tomorrow night.

Kind of had some kind of epiphany today. PLEASE READ!!

I listening to Britney Broski’s recent podcast episode. It’s called The Broski Report- The Demented Psychology of Being a Fangirl.

First of all, let me say, Britney is so freaking smart and such an intellectual. I used to think of her as just this funny person but if you really take the time to listen to her and get to know, you’ll understand there is so much more to her as a person. You may not always agree with her opinions and I can’t say I always do (majority I do), but I can wholeheartedly say I respect the heck out of her and those opinions because she has clearly thought them out and there is logical and passion behind them. So with that being said, go watch her content please especially those podcast episodes.

Secondly, she was discussing the “girlboss” characters we see the majority of the time now in our media, specifically movies. She talked about the quirky women we see in these movies today. She drew evidence from Disney movies such as Tangled (where it all began), then Moana, Encanto, etc. And LET ME BE CLEAR, she wasn’t trashing these movies. It was just evidence in her discussion.

But it really got me thinking: We see those types of women in movies and books everywhere. The typical girlboss woman and nothing ever gets to her. Nothing bothers her. (And/or) The quirky, clumsy woman who doesn’t really fit and “is different from other girls”. Very much the stereotype of “Manic Pixie Dream” girl. It’s what writers, film makers, creators, etc. pump out on a daily basis. And I have to agree with Britney, I’m tired of it now.

I want so desperately to see a woman in a book or film that I can somewhat relate to on a deeper level instead of fragments in a surface level connection. Then I realized: “You have kind of fallen into this as a writer yourself. You are writing the stereotypical girlboss woman. If you don’t like that, it needs to change because it’s hypocritical.”

And I’m not saying there is anything wrong with a girlboss, quirky woman. If that’s who you are, that’s awesome and I’m sure there is more to you than just that typical girlboss we see in movies and books. But it’s not me and I do think that “girl bosses” can still be written in a way that shows that powerful nature but still maintains that emotional side and keeps true to her femininity. Femininity is powerful and so beautiful. It often only gets studied in a surface level setting but if you really dive into it, there are so many layers to a woman and her feminine side that make her this gift and give her talents that no one else can have. I think we try to snuff that side of ourselves out sometimes so we can look/feel more powerful (and that is just my opinion) when in reality, we should embrace it more. Woman is power itself.

So with all that being said in this crazy ramble that I won’t go back and edit and make flow better: I’m going to be starting somewhat fresh with the Heartbeats in the Crossfire story. It’s missing so many elements that I think it needs to be better so everyone will be seeing new REWRITTEN chapters hopefully soon.

I deducted an entire point from A Boss & A Babe's Our Skyy 2 episodes because they didn't have enough of my color-coded gamers in love, ThreeZo!

Then what was in the episodes was them FIGHTING!

Rude. Unforgivable. Our boys would not fight! They love each other too much to yell at each other like that!

But then again, I am biased because I love all of Fluke's characters. His characters always give the best advice in whatever show he is playing in.

And, like you mentioned, he has chemistry with EVERYONE! Which is another reason I deducted a point because the Our Skyy 2 episodes didn't have Porsche, who is played by Thor, who Fluke also had great chemistry with in The Warp Effect (I think Thor was going through his monkhood which is why he wasn't in Star in My Mind's Our Skyy 2 episodes either).

Someone made a list of the GMMTV boy with the largest body count, and Fluke has kissed the most boys from the GMMTV roster which includes Nanon, First, and New, so the man's got game. Which is why I'm shocked he hasn't been the lead in his own show (The Shipper DOES NOT COUNT!).

And for Ohm to be brand new, he did well working with and off a talented actor like Fluke. He is getting a role in Aof's upcoming series Last Twilight with JimmySea, so if Aof picked him, he must have the talent or else he'll be staying awake at night anxious.

Let's both pray that our love for them reaches the ears of the GMMTV higher ups, so these two can land their own show.

If not, at least let Fluke prove he has leading BL man quality. Seriously, the fact that he hasn't been a lead is ridiculous at this point!

"I'm resigning as your apprentice, Solomon." The conviction in your voice was clear. You had clearly contemplated it for some time.

"You're... you're not even close to ready for higher level magic MC-" Solomon was clearly caught off-guard. More shocked than displeased.

"I don't need it. I don't need anything to do with magic or being a sorceror. I just- I'm done. So thank you for everything so far, but you won't need to waste your time with me anymore." You barely met his eyes before you walked out.

This was two days ago. You were careful to tell him on a Friday, so you could avoid him for the weekend.

Mammon and Asmo both asked you whether you'd like to go out with them, but you refused. You didn't want to run into him on the streets either.

A part of you felt guilty for doing that to him. He did deserve an explanation atleast. But what could you possibly tell him?

I can't be around you anymore because I'm desperately in love with you but you already seem to have someone else.

No. It makes no sense. It sounds so juvenile and conceited, you shake your head and bite the inside of your cheek. You cringe at how strange and tense your next interaction with him might be.

But that wasn't a good enough reason for Lucifer to let you stay home. So you took a deep breath and left for RAD.

To your relief, you had no classes in common in the first half. At lunch you sat alone, in a place where you'd usually never sit. Further lowering the chance to see him. So you ended up with a friendly bunch of Succubi from your classes.

They were complaining about how the assignments were too long to complete in one week and you wholeheartedly agreed. While one of them was mimicking the professor's stern voice, another one screamed.

She was holding up her phone and squealing in excitement. You peered at it. Asmo posted a new Devilgram story.

Of course.

You feigned interest to match the energy of these excited fangirls. But honestly you'd lost your appetite, listening to the conversation.

"Oh look, isn't that Solomon in the back? Oh he looks extra smoldering today. I wonder where he's staring so intently?"

"Yes yes that's definitely him. They're always together aren't they? Like an old married couple haha!"

"Solomon stays in Asmo's room when he stays at HOL, doesn't he? Oooh I wonder what sort of kinky things they get up to in there?!"

Asmo is incapable of loving him. He has known him for centuries and yet doesn't know anything about him. Even simple things like his favourite work of fiction or his music tastes. He has never taken interest in what Solomon's works or passions.

"Oh but I've heard Lucifer is more Solomon's type. Did you know he's been trying to get a pact with him since the last century?"

"Oh yeah I've definitely seen them around too. There's even fanart of them in the RAD fansites now ahaha!"

"They are totally like rivals to lovers. Did you see the magical duel they got into once? They are so equally matched!"

Lucifer cannot stand the sight of him, let alone trust him. He always told me how dubious and shady Solomon was, literally asking me to shut him up and keep him away once I became a sorceror.

You couldn't sit and stew in this conversation anymore, painfully close to puking out all the contents of your stomach. But they caught you trying to leave.

"What about you, MC? As his apprentice who do you think suits romantically Solomon?"

Me.

You wanted to scream it. But you didn't. How selfish and conceited of you. Who the hell were you decide? And it's not like people were not allowed to have their opinions on it. You couldn't in your right mind, judge them for simply making the most logical assumptions.

"Haha I honestly couldn't tell. We never really talked about things like these." You laughed awkwardly before excusing yourself. The bell rang just in time. You headed straight to class.

You were clutching your books to your chest. How did things turn out like this? You were sure to be as fast as possible. How did all the seats get filled up? And why was the only empty seat next to Solomon?

"MC, please come in and sit down. We need to get the class started." The professor said, impatiently. You nodded in apology and headed in the direction of your doom.

You could feel his eyes on focused on you, sending chills down your spine. But you didn't dare glance more than once. It didn't help that this was a double period.

And anytime your hands or elbows accidentally touched, you flinched, muttering soft apologies and tried to move your seat away. But somehow your seat was being pulled back into place again.

"The next assignment is to be done in pairs. So everyone partner up with person you're sitting next to and finish it by next class. Class dismissed."

Oh, just my fucking luck.

"I'll come by the House of Lamentation at 7:30 tonight." His voice was icy as he got up from his seat, moving back so you get out of class first. On your way home, all you could hear was the sound of your heart pounding wildly.

You were suprised that the house was still empty at 7. You texted the brothers asking if something happened.

Satan texted back about how there had been a sudden increase influx of student requests and the student council has too many of them to review.

Beel texted you to eat without them cause they might have to stay in school overnight. You felt your anxiety rise. The thought of being all alone in the house with Solomon...

The doorbell rung exactly at 7:30. You opened the door and welcomed him in. The coldness never left his eyes. His footsteps were deliberately slower and more weighted as he followed you to your room.

"I've set up the initial requirements of the experiment, so if you have the magical items and extracts, we can just get started right away-"

SLAM!

The door shut and locked loudly behind him. You thought you could get away with pretending everything was fine but clearly he had different intentions.

"I believe you owe me some explanations, MC." He walked over to the bed, grabbing your wrist along. You could feel the repressed anger in his grip. It scared and excited you all at once.

You found yourself cornered against the wall behind the bed, your ankles binded together by his glowing ropes. Struggling was useless. He leaned forward until you could feel his hot breath on your lips.

"Sorry about the extreme measure MC, but you have a rather unpleasant habit of running away from conversations."

Both Lucas Broussard and Andreas Nordeback have said Shoma is their favorite skater (Andreas said Shoma is his favorite Japanese skater), and both paid attention to their presentation and are really promising performers, I'm proud that Shoma have top juniors looking up to him. Haein Lee is also a Shoma fangirl, and the influence is felt in how she always fought to perform 100% until the end of her program regardless of the falls. There's a young Japanese skater named Sena Takahashi who was a great novice performer at the NHK Trophy and Japan Nationals gala... and he's also a Shoma fan. In general skaters who I notice are great performers or skate beyond their years tend to look up to or love Shoma, I remember even Alena Kostornaia before she started winning JGPF said her favorite skaters are Shoma and Javier.

I think aside from the performing style, Shoma influenced other Japanese skaters in terms of work ethic. Masakazu Kagiyama (Yuma's father) has mentioned in an interview before Beijing that he was impressed vy Shoma not being shy to show his falls and failures in front of Yuma when they trained together, because in his experience senior skaters tend to "only show the good sides" in front of their juniors. Shoma also gave a lot of competitive advice to Kazuki, and Kazuki is also now using the same skating blades as Shoma. He tends to be really observant of his fellow skaters and is ready to give them advice whenever necessary imo, I remember him commenting on Sota's jumps a couple of times this season.

There are definetly a couple of skaters who named Shoma as their favorite skater.

I also remember an interview with Kaori from late 2017 where she said she was looking up to Shoma. (let me search in my archive and I reference it when I find it😅)

I just dunno if it really translates into their skating or attitude in that sense you can say "see that's because of Shoma" but they definitely all saw something worth admiring and taking to heart.

I can wholeheartedly agree about work ethics in that sense in how you approach stuff and how hard you work to achieve a goal. That's why I always get so mad when haters say "Shoma is lazy" like have you ever listened to other skaters who trained with Shoma (who were not Eteri students)?

I think Shoma showed that you can be real friends with your direct competition. He trained with his friends and lend all of them a helping hand in terms of advice for their mentality or approach to competition, technical advice on jumps or being an emotional support like Koshiro just said at 4CC that he performs better with his friends around. Sota, Kazuki, Yuma, Koshiro and more can all call Shoma a friend and rely on him. It's not a common thing in sports to help your rivals even if you are friendly with each other. I just remember an interview with a Russian skater who said: "There are no real friends among competitors in the same discipline" but I think Shoma is the example to show you that it doesn't need to be true.

Bravely Book Review

Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater 

This is not normally a book I would read. 

Firstly, Brave is not one of Pixar’s best movies. Maybe people will disagree with me, but when it comes to the long list of Pixar masterpieces, Brave was always one I forgot about. The story was meh and so were the characters. 

The only truly memorable bit from the 2012 film was Merida’s fiery red curls (that was supposedly a lot of work to animate). As someone with curly hair, I wholeheartedly related. 

With the movie being mediocre, you might be wondering why I read Bravely in the first place. 

It’s a good question and it has one simple answer: Maggie Stiefvater wrote it. 

I think it’s weird that she wrote it, but she did, and I love her. 

If the book sequel to Disney Pixar’s Brave had been written by literally anyone else I wouldn’t have bothered even glancing at it, but Stiefvater continues to surprise and delight so here I am. 

I actually went to her book signing for Bravely where she discussed how writing the sequel came about. Apparently, Disney called her up out of the blue and asked her to write the follow-up to the movie in book form. Maggie thought it was because of her education in Medieval History or because she plays the bagpipes. 

Turns out it’s just because Disney is a Maggie Stiefvater fangirl and the other reasons were happy accidents. Honestly, I can relate to that. 

At first Maggie turned down the offer—who was she to write the sequel to Brave? But then after some very life-altering events, medical scares, and a complete reorganization of her life and her dreams, Maggie accepted. 

I can tell you right off the bat that the book is good. 

It’s solid. 

Maggie presents a very clear plot: Merida has one year to save Dun Broch (her home) and her family from ruin at the hands of an ancient god. She strikes a bargain with two gods and they agree to give her one year. If she can change her family for the better, their lives will be spared. It’s simple, but effective. 

You get action, emotion, travel, adventure, history, fantasy, and magic. What else could you possibly want?

It’s not that I wanted more exactly, it’s just that this book wasn’t quite up to Maggie Stiefvater’s usual brand of weirdness and charm. My favorite characters from the book ended up being Leezie, Merida’s maidservant turned sister, and Feradach, the god of destruction. 

They were by far the most unique and interesting characters. They were also Maggie originals. Maggie does so much better when she can play around with the characters, the relationships, and the setting from creation. 

For Bravely, she was already given a mold and a universe to work with. Apparently, Disney gave her complete creative freedom, but that doesn’t change the fact that Merida was already established as Merida before Maggie sunk her teeth into her. 

It’s not that they’re bad characters by any means. They’re just not as good as characters from the Raven Cycle or other Maggie works like The Scorpio Races. Merida, her father, her mother, and her brothers don’t come across as nuanced or as intriguing as Maggie’s regular characters, although Maggie put up quite the effort to flesh them out as individuals. 

My one huge annoyance is that Maggie did introduce some romance into the mix for Merida. One of the whole points of Brave is that Merida refuses to get married and doesn’t want to get married. She wants to fight, to travel, to learn, to live her life, all without offering her hand in marriage. 

Introducing romance for Merida was an odd choice that went against everything Brave tried to introduce. I think the romance was erroneous, last-minute, and not fleshed out. Bravely would have been better overall without it. 

Regardless, the book is entertaining. 

It’s not quite on par with Maggie’s usual brand of jaw-dropping writing and eloquent figurative language, but it was still lovely and chock-full of magic gone awry and heart-wrenching feelings.  

Recommendation: If you love Disney or Brave or Maggie Stiefvater, then I recommend you read it. If you just want a fun, stand-alone fairy-tale-esque story then I recommend you read it. If you don’t care for any of the above, then this Scotland story about a fiery princess is better off unread. 

Score: 7/10

Something that's been bugging me for years since the Legends finale. If Zhan had been the writer for Rebels, do you think he would have had Thrawn bomb Lothal to bring Ezra out? On the one hand, from Legends Thrawn's portrayal I imagine he would without a second of hesitation. On the other, Canon Thrawn has been much more... restrained? And on a third point, there's the fact that Legends and Canon Thrawn seem like they really could be the same person just at different points of time. cnt in next

...I'm just curious if anyone else was curious if Zhan agreed with that direction taken. Which, on that note, did Zhan ever say anything about his thoughts on how Rebels handled Thrawn? Both from a writing standpoint as well as an acting and musical one (Thrawn's various leitmotifs)?

Oh man. Ohhhhhhhh maaaaan. My friend, you have asked exactly the right person this question, because not only have I wanted to talk about this multiple times before, but I also have ~receipts~. 👀

⚠️Spoiler warnings for Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, the canon Star Wars novels Thrawn, Thrawn: Alliances, Thrawn: Treason, Thrawn Ascendency: Chaos Rising, and Thrawn Ascendency: Greater Good, and the legends Star Wars novels Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, and Outbound Flight.⚠️

Oh man. Where to begin.

Lets start with who Thrawn is, because depending on who you ask, you're gonna get different answers—whether you're strictly a Legends fan, Dave Filoni, a guy who's only seen Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels, Timothy Zahn, or just a writer/artist fan like me.

To Timothy Zahn, the man behind our favorite chiss, Thrawn is a character that is constant in both attitude and personality throughout all of his content. In multiple interviews, ranging from Thrawn's debut in Rebels to the latest about the writing of the Ascendancy Trilogy, Zahn states that Thrawn in canon and Thrawn in Legends are indistinguishable.

And so I present the receipts:

In a 2017 interview with The Verge on writing the first canon Thrawn book Thrawn, Zahn is asked the following question and responds as such:

How do you navigate bringing back a character who already has an extensive backstory and audience expectations, with telling a new story that fits in the new continuity?

Actually, I didn’t find that to be a problem. I’d never written Thrawn in this part of the Star Wars timeline, so it was simply a matter of bringing him into the Empire and chronicling his rise through the ranks. It’s still the same character as in the 1990s books, just a decade or two younger and in a very different military and political environment.

In another interview with The Verge in 2018 (a few months after the finale of Rebels aired) about writing Thrawn: Alliances, he repeats this sentiment twice:

Thrawn feels like if it had been written before the canonization purge a couple of years ago, or if you squinted a bit, it would serve as a perfect setup for Heir to the Empire.

Oh, I don’t think you need to squint at all. I wrote him in these two books to fit in with everything else I’d done. So if someone at Lucasfilm snapped their fingers, and suddenly all of my other books were canon, and there would be no real retrofitting that would have to go in. It would all fit together.

Thrawn: Alliances feels more at home in the new canon, especially because Thrawn has been fleshed out a bit more in Rebels. Was there any adjustments for that?

Not really. I’m getting to play with more canon characters like Vader and Padmé and Anakin, but the character himself, I still see him as the same person. He’s got goals, and he won’t necessarily share them with you, but he as long as you’re going the same direction, he’s happy to cooperate and assist along the way.

...and this is referenced again in a 2020 interview with Polygon about writing Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising:

Along with Thrawn’s appearance in Rebels, Zahn would pen a new novel, Thrawn, that chronicled the character’s early days as an Imperial officer. Zahn didn’t have to change anything with the character, telling me in 2017 that “he’s like an old friend who I understand completely.” While Heir to the Empire was no longer canon, a reader could easily read Thrawn as a precursor to that classic novel. Thrawn went on to become a major presence in Rebels, and Zahn continued to explore his origins in Thrawn: Alliances and Thrawn: Treason.

The next day, an interview with IGN was published on the same subject:

Thrawn is an especially unique case because Zahn has been able to effectively continue the work he started way back in 1991 with Heir to the Empire. That novel may not be a part of official Star Wars lore any longer, but as Zahn explained, Thrawn himself is basically the same character regardless of continuity.

[....] The closest comparison between Chaos Rising and Zahn's earlier EU work is probably 2006's Outbound Flight, which is set during the Clone Wars and details the first encounter between Thrawn and the Galactic Republic (while also retroactively laying the groundwork for elements of Heir to the Empire). That novel is no longer canon, but Zahn told us he prefers to operate as if it were. He's making a concerted effort not to retread the same ground as Outbound Flight and to avoid contradicting the events of that novel as much as possible.

So yeah. In Zahn's opinion, Legends Thrawn is Canon Thrawn is Book Thrawn, and there is no difference whatsoever between Thrawns in, say, Outbound Flight, Heir to The Empire, Alliances, and Chaos Rising. I wholeheartedly disagree, but lets move on.

Now that the books are out of the way, its time for Rebels.

In July of 2016, after the trailer announcing Thrawn's canon debut aired, Dave Filoni had the following to say about Thrawn's character in regards to Timothy Zahn:

“I was pretty adamant with a couple of people saying, ‘Listen, we need to have Tim sign off on this. This is kind of a waste of time [otherwise],'” says Filoni. “We, of course, can do what we want with a character that Lucasfilm owns, but without Tim’s okay, what does it mean? That’s not going to be good. Once we had some stuff, we wanted to do what we thought was right and make the character. Then we brought him in. We had the production fully prepared. I said, ‘Look, if there’s something that Tim says that I think is really valuable, even if it changes something dynamically, we need to be ready for that and see what we can do.’ I wanted to make sure we did this right by everybody. We brought him in and we didn’t really tell him why. We just flew him up to Lucasfilm and sat him down in a theater and said, ‘Hey, we’re bringing Thrawn into the show.’ He was like, ‘Wow.’ and I said, ‘Yeah, wow. And I’m going to show him to you right now and you let me know what you think.'”

(Before we continue, keep that first highlighted sentence in mind for future reference. I'm going to come back to that later.)

Fortunately, Timothy Zahn was delighted at the show’s approach to the Empire’s imposing blue-skinned Chiss.

“We showed him some of the scenes with him,” Dave Filoni recalls. “He looked like a kid in a candy store. I think it meant a lot to him not just because it was his character, but because you have to imagine what he went through when it was announced that everything is Legends now, not Expanded Universe. I get that and I’ve always appreciated the work that goes into the Expanded Universe… For Tim, I think it was us saying, ‘No, no, no. We really like your character. We want him to be part of the real thing. The canon universe.'”

So in 2016, before we even saw Thrawn in action beyond a trailer, we were told that Zahn gave the OK, and he was chill with the way Thrawn was created in the show. In 2017, he gave a little more of the background of this process in an interview with FANgirl Blog:

The events of Thrawn dovetail closely with Rebels and shed light on some of Thrawn’s more seemingly surprising actions on the show, like when he appears to lose his temper and yell at Lieutenant Lyste. What was it like to see Thrawn come alive onscreen? Is he how you’ve pictured him in your head?

I don’t see my characters in terms of voice or appearance, but rather as personality or attitude. That said, I very much enjoyed the way the Rebels team brought him to life, in his appearance, voice, and actions.

I also appreciated the freedom I had to tweak certain incidents, such as the one you mentioned, and give additional or alternate explanations for the viewers who may have thought those were somewhat out of character for him.

He doesn't really elaborate on this, but we can assume he had SOME creative input on Thrawn's character, and he was overall pretty happy with the choices made in the show.

But then, we have this from that earlier 2017 the Verge article:

When did you learn that Dave Filoni was intending to bring Thrawn to Rebels, and did you have any input into how the character would be handled?

[...] I didn’t have any real input into how Thrawn was going to be handled, mainly because the lead time of an animated series is so long that much of season 3 had already been finished. But I trusted Dave and the team to do the character right. After all, why bring him into Rebels if you were going to drastically change him? Having seen the entire season now, I think we can agree that my trust was completely justified.

So... he didn't have "any real input," but was satisfied with it in the end? I guess? I don't know. We're getting into some contradictions now.

The last thing I've got in regards to Rebels is an interview Zahn did with the YouTube channel Star Wars Explained after the finale aired, where he responds to the following:

“So, maybe let's jump over to Rebels for a little bit. Now that it has wrapped up, how do you feel Thrawn was represented in Star Wars: Rebels?”

“They did a really good job—they not only understood the character and how to write for him, but they also understood the meta around how you defeat him. The only way to defeat Thrawn is to throw something at him he can't control, or can't anticipate. Given perfect knowledge and control, Thrawn will always find a way to win. But they understood, this is how you defeat him, these are the things we can use against him... so his portrayal in general, is very good; he's smart, he's anticipating, he's a step ahead of everybody, he's looking at clues and picking up on them, so I was very pleased with how the Rebels team handled the character."

I think these quotes answer many of your questions, so to answer your initial question: If Zhan had been the writer for Rebels, do I think he would have had Thrawn bomb Lothal to bring Ezra out?

Yes—but ONLY because at that point, the only established™️ Thrawn content was found in Legends, where Thrawn was a ruthless and calculating warlord.

However!

I do believe that if given the chance to re-write the Star Wars: Rebels finale using his now-canon novels as a solid background TODAY, Zahn would choose to not let Thrawn bombard Lothal's Capital City.

I believe this because he made one single very interesting creative choice when writing Thrawn that completely overwrote Thrawn's pre-established Rebels character: Thrawn was not responsible for the civilian deaths on Batonn—Pryce was.

And that's that on that.

A few months ago I would have ended it there, but today, Thrawn's story is no longer just contained in the novels and Rebels, but also in that of The Mandalorian.

This is where I will proudly say I have no idea what the fuck is going on. Before The Jedi aired, I was 100% sure that the next time we saw Thrawn, it would be nowhere NEAR the Empire, because Zahn was pretty adamant in the novels that Thrawn was only in the Empire to help. His. People.

So now he's apparently doing fuck-knows-what in fuck-knows-where and is STILL associated with the Seventh Fleet and Imperial Warlords???

Huh??? Despite the fact that he held no true loyalty to the Empire or to the Emperor??? It's been months and I'm still confused as fuck. Add to the fact that Zahn also doesn't know what the fuck is going on to the equation and we get a big fat question mark with one pretty clear answer that Filoni said himself that we have to keep in mind:

"We, of course, can do what we want with a character that Lucasfilm owns."

So I don't think Zahn has much control over Thrawn as we would all like to think. We can hope he gives us the crazy Thrawn and Ezra Space Adventure™️ novel all we want, but ultimately, Thrawn's fate does not rest in his hands.

Food Fantasy: An Analysis on what killed a Golden Goose (3/3)

Ladies and gentlemen, we've arrived at our final destination.

Again before we start, we have our obligatory disclaimers. I do not own the game or its characters, nor do I claim to know the true history and likely fate of this game. I am entitled to the thoughts and opinions written within this post. Feel free to agree or disagree with the points being made.

Community

So... here we are, fellow Master Attendants.

As consumers of this piece of entertainment media, we are free to enjoy it however we wish. Appreciating what is there, creating something new from what exists, playing the game by the meta or however you want to play it (within your means and at your own risk of course). There's no one true and absolute way to experience the game.

However, just as you can enjoy something, doesn't mean you can't also point out flaws or shortcomings of the media in question. As an active veteran player, I've already pointed out the many gameplay design flaws  already. And I'd be pretty dumb to say that Food Fantasy's writing is perfect. Hell, it has a lot of holes from a worldbuilding consistency standpoint. 

And what of things from the community side? Yes, there will be times you'd see content you consider cringe, or something in fanon you don't agree with. Or there happens to be fan theories and fangirling posts you don't like the take of because of X or Y.

And that's fine. If we all happen to play the same way, like the same thing, agree on the same thing and produce the same thing, well, this would be one helluva boring community, wouldn't it?

But what if someone decides the way you're playing the game is wrong and harasses you over it? What happens if someone decides that their interpretation of the game's flavor text and lore is more important than what anyone else thought about it? What happens if someone decides that they're absolutely right, and you and everyone else who disagrees deserves to be bullied out of the fandom?

As much as I want to say we aren't part of the problem why the game is deteriorating, we are unfortunately, part of the reason why the game is as such even if most of the blame is directed towards Funtoy and Elex themselves.

⦁ Whale Authority. Whales will always be part of a gacha game's ecosystem. Without them, the game won't be able to maintain its upkeep costs, moreso  for one that services global regions instead of just one. But when a game decides to cater its decisions of what features should be prioritized and when it should be launched around only its most elite paying players' voices  -even if that influence has since tapered off-, you know there is something wrong with the publisher's management team and priorities.

⦁ Interguild drama. While I did not personally follow any of this, this has certainly been the peak of in-game tension back in the day. Poaching good players from both competitive and smaller guilds, guild mergers that often ended up making the annexed guild/s the equivalent of UK colonized India or Australia, suck-ups chummying up to guild leaders to keep a spot in an active, high ranking guild (for bragging rights!) despite never contributing much to overall damage, and just general dislike of certain players' attitudes. Actions like this have disillusioned many players about their playing experience and the reason why many eventually just lost the motivation to log into FooFan.

⦁ Cheaters. You know very well about the Hacker-teme I've mentioned before, but that was in context of Elex being incompetent with dealing with them. Here, I would like  to point out the players who are desperate to dominate  the playing field for whatever reason to the point that they would resort to cheating the ranks with forceful modifications of the APK. Whether it is to rank high in catacombs weekly, get a top spot in daily disaster damage, or weasel their way into the competitive whale ranks of a major ranking event, these are the people who have no qualms messing with the code to give themselves an easier time with the game. And if they're caught? Some pretend that they've made a mistake, some quickly sell the account to escape the blame, some others just scamper away into the dark and hide in the lower ranks where they can't be found. Others simply don't care and keep cheating until Elex decides to finally ban them... if Elex ever decides their rebates score isn't worth saving the account.

⦁ Ship wars. Ah yes, a staple of drama in any fandom. There doesn't need much explanation to this as we've all had our fair share of running into a battleground in whatever fandom we visit. Someone ships BB52 wholeheartedly? Nope, problematic 'age gaps'. Someone likes Napoleon with Pastel? Someone's bound to misinterpret their bios in order to justify that Napoleon was being abusive. Spaghetti and Borscht? Borscht is minor coded, ship her with Vodka instead. Whiskey and Pizza or Cassata? Cancelled! And I've never heard of the Foe Yay trope or pretend I don't know about it! Rarepairs? Disgusting! No fanon in my canon playground! Turkey and Eggnog? Gasp! How dare you, you pedo-shipper-even-though-you-never-said-you-shipped-them-romantically-but-that-isn't-my-point!

⦁ Character Obsession: Bias. On one hand, you love a character so much. Relate to a character so much. You have thus pulled this character into the folds of your bosom and coo at them like a mother dove and get so minutely triggered if someone so much as makes one disagreeable or joking comment about the character that you fly into an overreactive ballistic rage that would make a Canadian goose honk in fear. You don't care what they are in canon. You don't care about the possibility of mistranslation. What matters is the fanon space you carved out for them to exist in and that's all that matters. The problem with this is when this obsession takes over common sense and social etiquette and it steps into harassment territory. You begin to think: I'm the only one who 'understands' the character. I'm the only one who wishes better for the character, everyone else is out to defame them! Oh wait, you like them too? Do you like them the way *I* like them? No? Maybe if you're my 'friend', I'd let it slide. But to everyone else? No one else has the right to like them as much as I do. No one! Never mind that they're completely fictional- No one hurts my bias because in turn, they're hurting *me*!

⦁ Character Obsession: Anti. On the other hand, you hate a character so much. This character just makes you see so much red. Their smug little smirk just makes your blood boil. Their fictional backstory makes you recoil in disgust. You hate that someone else loves a character you hate so much.  You cannot *believe* that someone could be so daringly stupid to like a problematic character. They must be problematic too then. They must be hiding real life secrets that are problematic! Yes, yes. That's right. That person's a supporter of abuse. That person's into pedophilia. That person is into military lolita fashion that Japan started the trend of but clearly Japan was part of the Axis Powers! And that... that person... that person... is a roleplayer and a yaoi fangirl properly interacting with minors and adults. How dare they...!

⦁ Fan Translations.  Normally it wouldn't be a problem that a group or two or several are translating pieces of the game's lore ahead of the official. But with Elex's very delayed translations and extreme allergic reactions to translating Food Soul bios, people have become dependent on fan-translation groups to get their fix. The problem herein lies... is when the translators get drunk off the power that they are one of a handful in a small community who can magically transcribe the oriental moonrunes into English. The problem starts when the translator starts to have an inclination. The problem starts when the translator loses their professional detachment and start adding in details here and there into the fan translated product that ultimately changes the meaning and direction of the entire story. The problem is also escalated when that translator's embellished product is touted as the truth by their followers. If there was an upcoming character whose backstory is connected to a character they hated (either because of someone or they just don't like the character) and you were hoping to read the fan translation? How would you know that what you get isn't something doctored to the point it's basically fanfiction?

⦁ Social Justice Vigilantism. Sometimes someone does not have a character obsession or need it to be annoying. Sometimes, someone just wants to ring the alarm over something they find 'problematic' in order to police and sanitize the enjoyment of the media for 'everyone'. They no longer really take enjoyment out of a new Food Soul design being leaked, they no longer read the lore just to enjoy what it has to offer. Instead, they nitpick bits and pieces of the design and point it out repeatedly as a reason why the whole thing is bad. They point out bits of the story and inject their interpretations of it without really comprehending what they've read in full and react badly to it. What's worse is that they have no qualms publicly posting their reactions and eagerly and hungrily await those likes and echoes of agreement that they were right.

⦁ Circles of Influence. Everyone has a group they eventually gravitate to in a fandom. It comes with its own pros and cons. Sometimes you join a group because someone you admire is in there, sometimes you join a group because you just want to mingle and see more content. All valid reasons. Arguments can't be avoided in a group, it has to happen... But you have to take care. You have to take care to feel the change in the air of the group. When someone starts pushing people to agree with them. When your most admired people start to feel overly sensitive about certain characters or issues. When you start to feel obligated to spy on other groups outside of this one for 'nonbelievers', 'traitors' and 'heretics' who do not think the way this group does, and that bringing back bits and pieces of gossip as offerings would somehow make you more favored in the eyes of the inner clique or remain inside it. There is a gripping sense of annoyance when that person comes in to complain but you can't do anything about it but nod and agree. There is a pervading sense of fear and apprehension of overstepping an invisible boundary. There is fear that you might be next on the chopping block, after witnessing one of the others being ganged up on and thrown out without a second thought, their name spat upon like they're worth less than dirt. And so reluctant you are to give up what you have with them that when they push you to do something you are reluctant to do, all in the name of 'harmony and justice'... You do it. Even though it would mean offering yourself up to the mob with no salvation, and the stark realization that... [they] never cared about you as a friend.

And we've come to the end of this analysis trilogy. The writing got a little bit strange in this post, but honestly this is the best way I could put it. I'm aware things can and will be more complicated than the bullet points I've written but I'm just one person and I tried very hard to keep details of all the drama that happened in this fandom as vague as possible. Of course, that wouldn't work if you know what I am talking about.

The community is quiet now for the most part, the game is somewhere between limbo and the living plane. Things could be better for us, but I don't really count on it.

I wish I could leave a bit of a moral warning or something. But rather than do that, I just hope this was an entertaining read into one individual's eyes into Food Fantasy and everything that makes it up.

Types of Greta Van Fleet Fans on Tumblr as Observed By Me

Type 1: The Casual Fan

She knows their music, but it's not her favorite. She might reblog a few photos or funny things about the boys on occasion, but her blog is no where near dedicated to Greta and they probably aren't even one of her hyper-obsessions, just another artist in her library. She's more on the outs of the fandom; it's rare that she's tagged or mentioned in anything because not many of us know her. Greta Van Fleet is, most likely, an outlier in her music taste: either heavier than she's used to, or more classic rock when she's a straight up metalhead. All of this is absolutely okay! This girl is generally chill and sweet when she does get to interact, although if she ends up liking GVF more and wants to get "in" on the fandom it can be frustrating to make herself seen.

Type 2: The Die Hard Groupies

I feel kinda bad calling them this but, if given the chance, these chicks would become groupies in an instant. They love the band with their whole heart, and want to live a life of peace, sex, drugs, and rock n roll with their idols. But since they are contained to Tumblr at the moment, these ladies contend themselves with thirst tagging, sending various friends like @satans-helper and @dreams-madeof-strawberrylemonade naughty fanfiction requests and confessions, reblogging pictures of their favorite groupies from rock history, and, of course, listening to Greta Van Fleet (cause they do like the music, I want to make it clear it's not all about sex). It's a toss up whether this girl is open to any and all of the boys, or has a lane she will die in. Jake seems to be the most common.

Type 3: The Accuser

This can girl is much, much more common on Instagram, but I've seen a few here too... The Accuser takes "cancel culture" to the extreme and is canceling a person for something every single day (and encouraging others to do the same) despite the fact that she still likes them apparently (you'll see that she still posts about this person who is "awful")? She thinks the boys are abusing their fame by not promoting social justice very publicly at all times, she has problems with all their girlfriends, she thinks the album is taking too long and that they're being lazy; she goes on rants about symbolism in the songs, makes every conversation about social justice no matter the relevance, and picks fights about the most ridiculous things. (Again, this was on Instagram, but I had two girls fighting over which twin had the larger gay following and things got INTENSE). This girl is quick to anger and accuse, wants everyone to be on her side and thinks even minor disagreements are Literal Death, and still proclaims to love the band despite finding fault in everything they do. High probability she excludes Danny or hates him the most. Yikes.

Type 4: The Defender

While I prefer this girl over The Accuser, she is also... not perfect. The Defender, in contrast to The Accuser (and probably fighting directly against her in a reblog chain no one else bothers to read cause ugh this again), thinks that the GVF boys are literal angels on earth who can do no wrong. She agrees and backs up every decision they and their management make, and always jump to their defense whether it’s music, looks, actions, or online activity being criticized. She is probably a pacifist, heavily dislikes fighting, and wholeheartedly believes in “peace love and unity”. I wouldn’t say that she is naive or irresponsible entirely, but she tends to ignore anything that she dislikes or else immediately jumps to the defense. Think One Direction fangirls circa the early 2010s. 

Type 5: The Happy Hippie Medium

This girl is what I, personally, would consider an enthusiastic yet responsible fan. She generally stays outside of the drama because it has nothing to do with her, she thinks it’s too silly to argue about, or she just values her sanity and peace. She does, occasionally, chime in on matters that she thinks are too important to be ignored, whether it’s the wait time for the album or their social media presence, and she’s always respectful about stating her opinion. She loves Greta and posts quite a bit about them, including original content, but she also has other interests that she blogs about. It could be other bands, aesthetic photos, astrology, artwork, tv shows, activism, it doesn’t really matter, but you’ll find that her blog is an interesting and utterly disorganized haven of herself. Gives great recommendations on all manner of things, and has probably been to a concert and had the time of her life.

Type 6: The Obsession Blog

This is the girl - or, rather, the blog - that is 100% about Greta Van Fleet. Every bit of content that comes in or out is GVF related; she’s the one you go to if you want a certain picture or an ear to hear your fantasies. Even more so if her blog has a specific topic, such as a Sam Kiszka blog! (Or @gretavanfleetconfessions lmao shameless self plug). She probably also has one or more side blogs where she has other content she is interested in, as well as personal information. I am surprised at how often I follow both blogs without knowing it’s the same person!!!

So, I think that those 6 types covers pretty much all the types of fans of GVF on Tumblr, or maybe more accurately their attitudes and content. I admit that I probably walk the line between “Happy Hippie ” and “The Defender”; I try to keep a healthy balance between my obsessions and a healthy amount of affection to GVF, sometimes that means ignoring stuff! 

I have also noticed that there are things that a LOT of GVF fangirls have in common that aren’t band related, but make this fandom more vibrant and close nonetheless. Many of us:

are musicians

are writers 

are artists (plugging @sphoox cause she’s my favorite but seriously all the artists rock)

generally like to be creative, whether it’s crochet or cooking or making moodboards

have other shared bands, such as: Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Nick Cave, Hanson, Harry Styles, Lana Del Ray, Twenty One Pilots, David Bowie, Pearl Jam, Metallica...

have other shared tv shows and movies, such as: Avatar the Last Airbender, The Witcher, Killing Eve, Mad Men, The Office, Parks and Rec, Labyrinth, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, The Adams Family, Pirates of the Carribean...

are interested in astrology and star signs

are interested in history

are interested in fashion

love to read and learn (not necessarily in school) and have all manner of knowledge

are in the LGBT+ community

are women of color, in and outside the U.S.!

are neurodivergent 

love nature and being active outdoors

love and share various aesthetics, whether it’s cottage core or ‘67 hippy or 80s rocker vibes

I love this fandom community and hope I can remain a part of it for a long time! There are things that diversify us and things that bring us closer together, plus, of course, the four wonderful (and sexy) musicians that brought us all together in the first place.
