playlist explanation: so it started as being about eveline, then about stwtm, and now its about ggks. some songs apply to stwtm only and some to ggks only.
Go Tell Aunt Rhody - obvious. The first verse, the one about eveline being raised, applies to sally as well. Satellite Call - Eveline/sally being told they are loved despite their suffering Daloy Polizei - cop hating jews fuck yeah Hey Brother - About zoe/michael fighting for and loving her brother and sister. More about zoe in tisykts than michael. "hey sister, do you still believe in love I wonder?" is the most applicable lyric You're Dead - the bakers' undeadness in re7, zoe coming back to life in tisykts, and the hoffmans [SPOILERS] Up Against Me - about zoe and emily. they're up against tough shit so they're physically up against each other for comfort. horny lesbian song. Hello Zepp - lucas. need i say more Tziporrah - tzipporah :) I Bet on Losing Dogs - how i feel about eveline in re7 canon. how i feel about the dead girls in ggks Daddy Lessons - zoe/michael being taught to shoot by daddy :) HERE is where it becomes more exclusively about ggks. these songs were added after I started writing it. Mountain Sound - Sally running through the mountains at the beginning Hayloft - farm lesbian hayloft gay sex Go Get Your Gun - rencounter chapter. they're fighting for her Raise Hell - introspective song about michael Give Me One Reason, The One That You Love - Michael and olivia's strained emotional relationship Silver and Dust - rural working class song. lyrics not directly applicable to the story but the vibes are Devils Point, Glitter & Gold, Providence, Sinners - lyrics not especially applicable to the story but i think this is the kind of music david and rebecca listen to Little Sadie by Crooked Still- A song about a man murdering a little girl and facing vigilante and legal justice. This version is sung by a woman, so it is about Dr. Fisher and the girls, especially Sally though she was not murdered. Prowler - danger in the woods Long Tailed Winter Bird - sorry this is a paul mccartney song. it was on an instrumental folk rock playlist and i like it. i feel like it could be on the soundtrack. Smells Like Teen Spirit - about the teens, but especially michael. This cover specifically was played during the lab rat girl montage at the beginning of the black widow movie. Remember That We Suffered - funny jew song from crazy ex gf. The jews suffered, sally and the girls suffered, the hoffmans suffered. The Land Unknown - southern gothic horror vibes. the theme song of old gods of Appalachia Echad Mi Yodeah - passover song. this version goes hard as fuck. jewish badassery Draft Dodger Rag - david. the writer of this was a socdem and not a commie but the lyrics are still applicable. When Everything Went Wrong - when everything went wrong in rencounter :) Fast Car - the vibes of wanting to leave your shitty small town life. mostly applicable i think to young david and rebecca, but possibly michael and olivia on vibes but not lyrics Take Me Home, Country Roads - they live in west vagina Twisted Fender - instrumental song that could be on the soundtrack Gibson Girl - about [spoilers] grooming of [spoilers]. mostly vibes and not direct lyrics. August Underground - on the album, this is about "ethel wasting away" as she is murdered. haunting tune that could be about the girls dying or [spoilers] between rencounter and redemption Hard Times - :( about sally and dr. fisher. the song is specifically about sexual abuse by ethel's father which is not applicable to sally, but the parental abuse and ESPECIALLY the lyric "im tired of you still tied to me" are soo about sally

Travelling Riverside Blues
This was written for @deangirl93‘s 500 follower celebration (congrats bby!!)! I absolutely HAD to jump on one of Dean’s favorite songs. It’s fluffy and cute; I had some earlier seasons Winchesters in mind for it mostly for the lighthearted bickering.
Title: Travelling Riverside Blues
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Word Count: 1273
Summary: On the way to a case, Dean and the reader talk about Dean’s favorite song while Sam tries to finish some research.
Warnings: swearing, fluff, brother bickering, mutual pining?
Tumblr media
           “I think this—”
“—Is my favorite song,” you and Sam finish in tandem, Sam’s tone a mixture of bored and annoyed and he doesn’t even look up from his book as you grin into the rearview mirror at Dean. Dean’s offense reads perfectly clearly in the sliver of his face you can see in the mirror, and the betrayed bend in his eyebrows makes you laugh out loud.
“You say that literally every time this song comes on. Which is all the time, because it’s your favorite song.”
“I do not,” he says defensively, flicking his gaze back to the road.
You tip forward to rest your chin on folded forearms between the Winchesters in the front seat. You can see Sam has made pretty good progress on his notes, small spiral notebook on his lap getting quickly filled with page numbers and quotes from the old book he has balanced on his knee. “Dean, yes you do. It’s okay though, it’s a good song.”
“Of course it’s a fucking good song, it’s Zeppelin. You know what, forget it. You guys make conversation then.”
“I’m trying to finish this before we get there, Dean, forgive me if I’m not playing I Spy with you or whatever,” Sam says, not breaking his concentration at all by writing through the words. It’ll never stop amazing you how he can focus on two things so completely like that.
“I’ll play I Spy with you,” you laugh, trying to keep Sam and Dean from bickering.
“Only things I’m trying to spy are in that backseat, kid.” Dean winks up at you in the rearview mirror and it makes you flush with heat in spite of yourself.
“You guys know I’m still here, right?” Sam murmurs, flipping a page without looking up.
You pitch forward enough to kiss him on the cheek. “Sorry, Sam. Anyway, why is this one your favorite, Dean? Of all Zeppelin, why this one?”
He keeps his eyes on the road for a moment, considering. “I mean, Page’s acoustic slide is unstoppable. But I don’t know, when I was a teenager I really liked that idea. A girl that’ll stick by your side no matter what, ride with you everywhere.”
Sam finally looks up from his notes with put-on fluttering eyelashes. “But Dean, I ride with you everywhere,” he teases, earning him a dead-arm he barely acknowledges before chuckling back into his book. “Besides, I’m pretty sure this song is about a sex worker,” he adds, holding his page with his finger as he goes back to double check a reference.
You can see Dean mouth ‘sex worker?’ in the mirror and try not to laugh again. “All good reasons. Still not as good as Misty Mountain Hop, but good reasons nonetheless.”
“Misty Mountain Hop? Really?” Dean looks genuinely surprised from the part of his face you can see.
You nod but don’t offer any explanation, knowing it’ll wiggle around in the back of Dean’s mind until he finds out why, and slouch into the backseat. “So when teenage Dean was imagining this rider, what was she like?”
Dean shifts in his seat a little bit. “I don’t know, loyal, smart—”
“Easy, jugs like Pam Anderson—” you continued for him with a devilish grin.
Dean laughs. “Sue me for being 16. It’s not like it’s something I think about now, that’s just why it became one of my favorite songs.”
“You don’t think about that anymore? How come?”
Sam and Dean look back at you in tandem with the same incredulousness. You just raise your eyebrows, waiting for an answer.
“I mean, I—now I’ve got you,” Dean says, and it’s more than a little muddled, more than a little shy.
“Yeah, what?” Sam asks. He looks almost like he’s expecting you to say ‘kidding!’. “You’re the rider.”
You must be looking pretty confused, because Dean clears his throat. “Planning on leaving or something?”
“I just—you’ve never said something like that before,” you hum, a little dumbfounded.
Sam raises his eyebrows smugly at Dean but says nothing. Dean clears his throat. “Well, ah, this is me saying something I guess. You’re—what, have you been seeing other people or something?” His gaze flicks hard up to the rearview mirror, swirling mixture of fear and anticipation in the sage green irises of his eyes.
“No, but I haven’t—you’ve never even really technically asked me out.”
“We’ve been fooling around for a while now—” Dean starts, pausing when he sees your disbelieving look and jerk of your chin toward Sam, who glances up.
The smugness hasn’t left Sam’s face. “No way; if you guys make me listen to your bizarre foreplay flirting all the time then I get to hear the good stuff too. Now, would you say that this seems out of the blue because Dean could’ve communicated his feelings to you before?” He’s addressing his comment to you but won’t keep his eyes off his brother, who is furiously trying to keep from acknowledging Sam, his eyes glued to the road.
“Yeah? I don’t know, I just didn’t get the sense that you wanted this to be like, a commitment,” you finish, feeling bashful and exposed from your eternal spot in the backseat.
Sam can’t hold back his smirk any longer, still drilling holes into his brother with his eyes. “Gosh, Dean, if only someone had given you some advice to talk about this months ago, maybe everyone would be on the same page.” When Dean doesn’t move or say anything, Sam throws an elbow over the seat to better face you. “He’s been telling people you’re his girlfriend for months,” he tosses out, waiting a half beat to see your response.
If Dean won’t say anything, Sam obviously seems like he’s in a chatty mood. “Seriously? Like who?”
“Bobby, Jody, guys trying to buy you drinks—”
“Okay, ENOUGH,” Dean barks, and Sam has to bite his lip to keep from laughing out loud. Dean looks up in the rearview mirror. “Sorry I misread the situation. I thought you wanted—”
“I do,” you breathe from the backseat, making Dean turn around hard enough that he twists the wheel a touch and Sam has to grab it lest the car goes veering into the drainage ditch to the side of the rural highway.
“Really?” Dean asks, eyes bright and wide with hope and half a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, still looking back at you.
“Eyes on the road, Andretti,” you giggle, feeling the tension start to dissipate as Dean turns back to his seat with a goofy grin. “Yes, of course I do. I’ve wanted to be your girlfriend this whole time, dummy. I didn’t think you did that kind of thing, that’s the only reason I didn’t push it.”
“Wow, it’s almost as if someone could’ve—” Sam starts again.
This time Dean is feeling a little more charitable and only shoves Sam half-heartedly. “Yeah, whatever,” he chuckles. The bashfulness on his face makes him look impossibly young for a moment, carefree and unencumbered—happy.
“Ah, ah!” Sam protests, raising his eyebrows expectantly with a grin.
“You were right, okay? Jesus, Sammy, give it a rest!” Dean’s trying to seem annoyed but he can’t stop from smiling.
The three of you sit in giggling, giddy sunlight as the car flies down the highway for a few minutes, warming yourselves from within on the vitamin D and the mood. “So I’m the rider, huh?” you ask, somewhat rhetorically. “Maybe I like this song better than Misty Mountain Hop after all.”

The Voice That Keeps Following Me
❣The Voice That Keeps Following Me❣
The sequel for Voices I Can’t Run Away From is finally here. I chose to make it a sequel and not a 2-part story, because I wrote the first one thinking of it as a stand-alone story, but I was requested a second part and I really like how it turned out! Hope you enjoy it too!

Day 134
Look at my family.
My mind sometimes likes to play and pretends to be a camera, it goes through life slowing moments down around me, allowing me to bask in the emotions that they gift me. And then it stores them, there in my fondest memories. I have a lot of them to choose from when my thoughts get dark, the light they emanate is enough to shut the whispers in my mind.
The warm embrace of my members is one that comes very often, but it was that night around four months ago that I first felt like someone really loved me. But do they really? And I try not to look back from that. Or do I?
The sun was high in the sky, a warm and welcoming spotlight that followed us through your late winter promotions, the chilly winds still rattled the thin hair in your forearms, but there was no more snow falling from the sky. The windows in the van didn’t fog like before and you could watch little flowers sprout all over the city as spring felt closer and closer.
Your favorite song was blasting through your right earpod, while the other ear enjoyed the background noise of Yoohyeon and Bora bickering in the seats in front of you. Yubin sat by your side, ignoring all reality happening before her while playing a game on her phone.
A light chuckle escaped your lips when you caught a glimpse of SuA tossing what could have been a sock to Yoohyeon, hitting her straight in the face. The latter just turned around, dumbfounded as Bora’s sudden laugh even managed to make Yubin raise her view to her. She then turned her head towards you, her eyes asking for an explanation. You didn’t play attention to the reason why, so you could only offer her back an affiliative smile and a shrug. It seemed to be enough for her, since these two always going at each other every single day was a good source of entertainment.
Your eyes travelled outside, discovering that you were already at your destiny. The fansign venue was already surrounded by a long line of eager fans waiting for you, and as soon one spotted the van, they all turned around to wave at you. Except for one guy that stood out for you from the others for not matching the excitement around him. All dressed in black, the hoodie covering up half of his face.
They’re still here, and they won’t go until you go down with them.
A sudden chill went down your spine, just as every time that you had to encounter an audience face to face, but shaking your head, you were quick to shut it down as the rest of the fans excited smiles and screams muffled behind the window drew a smile on your face, one that you didn’t get that often.
The car stopped it’s movement just behind the venue and the door opened, letting all unfiltered light into your eyes. Yoohyeon and Bora got out of the van and then the manager helped you and Yubin out too. As soon as your feet touched the ground, you felt an arm intertwined with yours, pulling you closer.
“Y/n!” Bora’s voice boomed as you identified her by your side. “If… Let’s say, you hypothetically had a favorite Unnie, who would that be?”
You stared at her trying to analyse what the best answer to that question could be, you loved all your members equally, but something in her voice told you that the question had a tricky part that she wasn’t telling you about.
Your suspicions were confirmed when you raised your view, Yoohyeon shaking her head at the scene before her.
“It’s probably Handong-unnie.” You answered nonchalantly.
“Y/n-yah!” Bora let go and slapped your arm playfully, pouting her lips. “You were supposed to say me! Alright then. Yubin!-”
“Mine’s Minji.” She answered without letting the older even breathe.
“Ah!” Bora whined, cutely hoping in her place. “Why am I no one’s favorite?! That’s not fair!”
“Maybe because you jump in my bed when I’m trying to sleep?” Yoohyeon added.
“Or because you belt in my ear to scare me when I try to read?” Yubin scoffed.
“Or…” You thought of something to add, but Bora hadn’t been anything but loving to you most of the time. Yes, her way of showing love was sometimes super clingy and loud but, you loved her that way, so you couldn’t really come with a better excuse. “Or maybe because you’re just not Dongie-Unnie.”
She deadpanned towards you, crossing her arms over her chest.
“At this rate I’ll never win the bet against Minji,” She sighed. She turned around, just when the other van was pulling up behind yours. Her eyes lit up, as she ran towards it. “Gahyeon-ah!!”
The three of you laughed out loud, shaking your heads at the occurrences of your older member. You walked towards the entrance of the building together, your laugh still dying down when you heard Gahyeon mumble in the distance followed by Bora’s loud whine.
“I hope Minji gives us our part of whatever she bet against her,” Yoohyeon chuckled, holding the door open as you entered the building.
We walked towards a large room with some couches and chairs, a table full of snacks and a wall entirely made of mirrors. Even decorated with some of your comeback posters on the other walls.
You walked towards the table, scanning carefully the snack offerings over it. Amongst some chocolate bars, caramels and beverages, you grabbed a bag of chips to snack as you waited to go outside.
“Good news everyone!” Minji entered the room with her arms wide open, a huge grin on her face. “Today’s dinner is on Bora!”
The seven of you cheered loudly as the latter just pouted, her arms still crossed and her eyebrows furrowed and plunged into a couch near you. You decided to come approach her, taking the seat besides her. You snacked on your bag of chips silently when you decided to turn to Bora and offer her some, she accepted them as she grumbled under her breath. The sight made you chuckle, seeing the most enthusiast member of your group all moody over a bet, but as the seconds passed, you started missing her energetic spirit.
“Unnie…” You leaned over to her, sweetening your voice. “If you buy tteokbokki, I promise you’ll become my favorite.”
She snapped her head towards you,her eyes squinting with suspicion and temptation to your offer. You smiled at her in the most innocent way that you could, bringing out your puppy eyes which you knew she couldn’t resist.
“Ah fine,” She cupped your cheeks with her hands, pinching your cheeks. The sudden gesture that prompted you to drop your mask, trying hard to get off her grip. “Just because you are my favorite maknae, even if you broke my heart in a million pieces. Just don’t tell the others.”
“I won’t, I promise.” Your voice muffled by the pressure that her hands were applying to your cheeks. You raised your hand, painting at her hands over your face “Can you… let go?”
“Never.” She released your face, but you didn’t get to savor freedom for long since she wrapped her body around yours, cuddling into you.
A sudden blush invaded your cheeks, softening your pride. You let yourself cuddle into Bora, while a smile kept growing in your face.
And then, time slowed down as you let your eyes wander through the space. Minji and Siyeon are laughing in the corner, the white walls reflecting in the sparks in their eyes. Gahyeon and Yoohyeon bickering around Handong, but the oldest of them just smirked at the probably childish discussion they had going on. Yubin was silently existing by my side on the couch, reading what seemed like her hundredth book in the month. You still didn’t know how she managed to do it with all the activities of the comeback. And then there was Bora, cuddled in her arms, making you feel like you were protected from everything in the world.
You sighed, savoring the emotions in the moment, your heart warming up at the sight of the best family that the world was able to give you ever.
But, are you really sure that you deserve all of this? After all you made them go through?
Thankfully, the voice in your mind was broken when a manager opened the door, calling everyone out to the stage to start the fansign.
You stood up from the couch, as you felt your body shaking nervously. This being your first fansign since the last comeback, and the “incident”. That’s how you and the members preferred calling it without inviting back unwanted feelings and memories.
They were quick to notice your nerves and approach to surround you in that familiar and safety blanket that they were all so used to being part of. Shanking your head, you released a shaky breath out of your lips and nodded, the girls taking the sign to move forward.
You could hear the deafening cheers of Insomnias from the other side of the hallway, as your heart ramped up it’s speed. Unsure if that was nerves or excitement, you wrapped the first hand that you could, that being Siyeon’s.
“Hey,” She turned around, offering you a conforming smile. “We’ve got your back, you’ll be okay Y/n.”
You nodded, leaning into her shoulder as you kept walking towards the main stage where your fans were already waiting for you. The door to the stage opened, making the shouts from Insomnia even louder. Your table with eight chairs and a bottle of water was already waiting for you too. The staff handed you each one microphone as you crossed the door.
The bright lights of the auditorium blinded you as you made your way into the stage, cheers cramming your ears. It took a few seconds for your senses to get used to all the sudden stimulation, but once they did, you were greeted with your fans waving and smiling at you.
You smiled back at them, offering them finger hearts and flying kisses. The clics from the fansites cameras refuse to cease, as you greeted your few acquaintances that sat between the audience. But as your eyes scanned around, you landed on that same man that you spot outside. With his hoodie still over his face, he wasn’t jumping up and down or smiling like the rest of the people around him. All you could see was a faint smirk in the shadow, as he slowly clapped to match the rest of the people.
“Let’s introduce ourselves!” You heard Minji clap to get the attention of the group, and you quickly stood in a straight line facing your audience. “One, two-”
“Dream of me! Hello, we are Dreamcatcher!” All of you chorused together, pumping up your fans even more. Each one of them introduced themselves, one after the other. Gahyeon was last, and everyone remained silent.
“Hello! It’s Y/n!” You cheered through your microphone. The audience exploded louder than before. Even hearing some ‘We’ve missed you!’ and other ‘Insomnia loves you!’. You turned to your members, to find them all grinning widely at you, which made you blush intensely.
But then again, your eyes had to land on that one unenergetic guy in the audience, still with the same grin and slowly clapping in his seat.
Maybe they didn’t really miss you, maybe the group was better when you were gone.
You shook your head, trying to get the thought out of your head. But it kept nagging in there. Trying to talk, your lips parted as words got up your throat but never past your lips. You didn’t realize how shaky your hand was until you felt Yoohyeon’s trying to get a grip of it.
Closing your eyes and letting her hand embrace yours, you took a deep breath, and finally the last thought got foggy enough to let you talk.
“It’s good to see you all again!” You stammered through the microphone, earning the cheers of the room, even your members.
After some light chat between everyone sat at their places as the staff helped Insomias line up, they eagerly smiled, excited as they waited for their turn to go up and talk to all of you. Minji, who sat by your side, placed her hand over yours and only her glance and smile was enough to make you feel safe.
Each one of the fans that talked to you beamed with light and joy, filling your table with so many gifts and letters that you wished you could give them back something more than just your signature.
A cute, young little girl came hopping to your place holding her album in hand, carrying a very particular gift with her. A bag of chips that you hadn’t eaten since… since the day you returned home after the incident. After saying hello and quickly signing the album, she rushed into conversation with you, something you didn’t mind cause you were extremely curious about her gift.
“My grandpa remembered that you liked this type of chips,” The girl extended the gift to you, taking them with delivered surprise as your eyes scanned them. “He wanted me to tell you that he hopes you’re doing good and that he’s proud of you!”
“Wait, how did he know it was me?” You chuckled, apparently being grubby, behind a bucket hat, a baggy sweatshirt and lowering your voice was not enough to hide yourself.
“He says it was intuition. Or maybe just your voice.” The girl giggled nervously. “But when he came home that night, he told me that everything was going to be okay, that you were alright. I trust him.”
“He did help me a lot that day, your grandpa is a great man.” Your talking minute was running out, so you reached across the table and put your hands on her, offering her a warm smile. “Always be kind to everyone, who knows where I would be right now if it wasn’t for the kindness of your grandpa.”
“I will always be Unnie!” The girl squealed in happiness as she moved to the next seat to talk with Minji.
“Say hi to him!” You added last minute and she nodded before turning to take care of the fan now in front of you.
More and more gifts started milling up around you, even flower bouquets adorned your surroundings and the rest of DreamCatcher, the managers walking around and taking some of them away from you to store backstage so the entire table wouldn’t end up engulfed in gifts.
You were so into the fansign, talking to all your lovely Insomnias, that you didn’t notice beforehand about the one thing that unnerved you. Turning around to face the fan in front of you, there he stood, the ominous hooded guy.
You tried greeting him with the same enthusiasm as the rest of your fans, but you were taken aback when instead of the usual cheery and giggle response, he just muttered a nonchalant ‘hi’ back at you.
You took his album, searching for the note with your name on it to know exactly where to sign. Finding it, you flicked to that page, but a cold chill traveled down your spine when you opened it.
Your pictures were scratched, painted and splattered over in a dark, thick, red tint. And over it, scribed in big black letters over everything, it read:
‘DreamCatcher will always be 7’
Told you
“Wha-?”
You heard a clock that snapped your head up. Facing a gun pointed straight at you.
They’re going down and taking you down with them. One last time.
And then time stopped. A cold drop of sweat travelled down your spine, as a knot tightened in your throat. Your eyes wandered around, a hundred smiles completely oblivious to the sight right in front of you. All that was left was to close your eyes, hoping everything to be quick and painless.
“Y/N!”
You heard your name be screamed just before a loud bang, returning you to this existential plane. But when your eyes shot open, you found yourself hitting the floor with your shoulder.
A cacophony of screams and people in plain panic ensued, the hooded man was tackled into the ground, and people ran left and right unsure on where to run away.
You tried getting up to get a better view of everything happening on the other side of the table, but a sharp burning bolt of pain travelling your body all the way from your shoulder pinned you down in your place. You turned to it, your entire sleeve covered in a red, thick and warm liquid. Your arm limped, only hanging from your increased numbing shoulder. The tingle in the tip of your fingers increased and travelled through your palm as you stared in horror, as the puddle of blood extended through all your outfit.
“We need an ambulance!” You heard one of your managers shout from one side of the venue, as the noise in the auditorium got more and more muffled to your ears.
“Y/N!” Minji’s shadow covered the light above you as she approached, her heavy breathing and shaky voice calling your name over and over under her breath as she kneeled by your side. “Gosh, no, no”
“What’s going on?” You cried, barely any noise coming out of your mouth. Using your remaining strength, you reached with your hand towards your members, who urgently surrounded you. Along with other managers who moved fast around you, discussing stuff that you weren't able to hear anymore.
“We need to stop the bleeding, NOW!” Yubin commanded, looking around the place for something to surround your injury tightly around, Siyeon and Handong following closely behind her.
“Please don’t leave me,” As your eyes flooded with tears, you somehow managed to crawl into Minji’s lap, “Please.”
“Never, Y/n-” Her eyes full of tears as well, hold you close, not minding getting stained by the red liquid that surrounded you by now.
Painfully, you turned your head to watch around. Gahyeon and Bora were bawling their eyes out between each other's eyes, Yoohyeon kneeling beside Minji in an effort of calming down both of them.
“Here!” Handong came back with a large piece of cloth, quickly kneeling besides you and fasting it up tightly around your arm and shoulder with the help of Siyeon and Yubin. Minji was refusing to drop her hold on you.
“Unnie, I’m so sorry” Your throat stinged at the words, dried up of the tears that came non stop through your eyes. “I’m so sorry about everything.”
Your vision started fogging up, as you barely heard a siren outside, followed by the main door being pushed open, and voices of various people approaching. Fighting to keep your eyes, you wrapped one of your member's clothes with the remaining strength left in your body.
“Stay with us, please.” Siyeon’s voice was distant, but your eyes caught her lips moving as the words entered your brain. “Stay.”
But you couldn’t stop fighting against the weight of your eyelids. The noise surrounding you shut up completely, and the shadows that surrounded you were swallowed by complete darkness.

Day 135
I know they’re here. I can hear them sometimes, but they can’t hear me. How much time do you think they’ll keep up with you? Please don’t leave me. Please.
Bora’s fingers traveled up and down your static hand with a gentleness that could put anyone to sleep. But this time it was the other way around. Surrounded by tubes full of unknown liquid flowing into your body, metal structures that seemed to keep the room’s gray walls from falling apart and the rattling but thankfully constant beeping of your heart monitor, everything she wished was for you to wake up.
Handong lay asleep across the couch on the other side of the bed, with only a weighted blanket covering her body from the chilly air circling the room, her head resting on the also asleep Yoohyeon who covered herself with around three thick jackets. The three of them volunteered to take the night watch in the hospital, replacing Minji and Yubin who refused to leave the hospital as you were received in the emergency room and stood by your side for the entirety of the first day. The managers insisted all of them to stay back at their dorm, but were quickly cut off by every girl, standing their ground on never letting you go again.
The first rays of sun peeked through the shades over the window, bringing a dim but warm light into the room with them. Bora’s tired eyes raised to watch the faint silhouette of the sunset through them. A knock on the door made her snap her head towards it, waking up the other two girls in the process.
“Come in?” Handong groggily whispered while standing up straight on the couch, rubbing her eyes.
The heavy door opened, revealing the other four members' tired faces behind it.
“How was your night?” Minji entered the room, hands deep in her pockets as she approached the feet of the bed, staring up and down at your weakened body laying before her. “Did you get some rest?”
The three girls already in the room shook their heads in unison, with Yoohyeon even burying her face between her hands.
“I never thought that a place so silent could be so…” She whispered, her eyes wandering all over the room, unfocused. “Restless.”
“There wasn’t much sleep at the dorm either.” Gahyeon added, sitting besides Bora as she carefully took a strand of hair away from your seemingly sleeping face.
“We brought you some coffee…” Siyeon handed their drinks to Yoohyeon, Handong and Bora before sitting in a chair on the other corner of the room. “I hope it at least helps you stay awake”
“Any news?” Yubin closed the door behind her, laying against the wall. Crossing her arms as she scanned the room with her eyes.
“Well,” Bora stretched her arms, standing up from her chair as she kept stretching her entire body in the process. “The doctor said that everything is stable, all vital organs are okay and that Y/n will only need some rehabilitation in her arm and shoulder. So, she’ll be fine.”
Everyone let out a deep sigh of relief, as Gahyeon leaned down to leave a kiss on your temple, a fair smile crossing her lips.
“I’m sorry we couldn’t protect you enough.” Gahyeon whispered to you as she rested her head over her hands on the edge of the bed.
“But it shouldn’t be our responsibility to have to go around being careful and trying not to get killed,” Yubin scoffed as she paraded around the room. “That’s just sick.”
“I’m glad they caught that bastard.” Siyeon snapped. “And I hope he rots in the deepest rings of hell that disgusting son of a-”
“Siyeon, the kids!” Minji covered Gahyeon’s ears as she covered yours. Her expression softened for a second, twisting her lips in agreement. “But you do raise a very valid point.”
Minji let Gahyeon’s ears go slowly and cautiously, in case any of the older girls decided lo let their dirty tongue roam free again.
“But what I still don’t understand,” Yoohyeon rested her head over her knuckles, as she leaned forward over the edge of the couch. “How can there be people who still don’t want her in the group?”
“We will never make everyone happy,” Handong responded. “I wouldn’t be surprised if there was someone out there who still thinks you should have stayed with the Minx concept.”
The audible groans of Yoohyeon, Minji, Bora, Siyeon and Yubin filled the entire room, facepalms, shrinked shoulders, rolled eyes, their mouths hissing and lips twisting in a physically painful display of a cringy memory flooding their minds. The image encouraged a chuckle out of Gahyeon and Handong, who enjoyed teasing the others with their past.
“While I understood your point perfectly,” Yubin's unimpressed muffled voice stuttered. “there was absolutely no need to take it that far, thank you.”
“But she’s right,” Siyeon pointed out. “There’s people who don’t agree with us, but we now know there’s more people that actually like Y/n a lot! And, if she still wants to be in the group with us after all this, whoever doesn’t agree can walk through the door and never come back.”
“If she wants to be in the group?” Gahyeon glanced back at Siyeon, perplexed.
“Y/n’s been through a lot already,” Bora added. “Even though we love her, we wouldn’t force her to stay if she doesn’t want to.”
“And if she wants to go back home,” Siyeon continued. “We’ll respect her decision too.”
The atmosphere around the room got tense. Everyone understood and agreed perfectly, but it didn’t mean that they wouldn’t miss you if you decided to leave the group.
“Do you know when her family will come? The manager told us they were trying to contact them.” Yoohyeon asked the other girls, trying to break the awkward silence. “Maybe we’ll finally get to meet them”
“They won’t be coming.” Minji shook her head, resting her hands on the footboard of the bed.
“Are they foreigners or something?” Handong leaned her head, curious at the leader’s response. “We could help them fly here if they want to-”
“No, yesterday the managers finally told me the reason Y/n never really talks about her family, and I think it’s time all of you know.” She sighed, raising her head and placing herself somewhere where everyone could see and hear her clearly. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes to focus. “Y/n doesn’t really know her family.”
“What do you mean she doesn’t know her family?” Siyeon eyebrows furrowed, trying to understand the oldest’s words.
“According to what I was told yesterday, she knows she had a family. But ever since she was a little child she had been jumping from foster home to foster home, until she became a trainee later.” Minji nodded, her lips forming a straight line as she got immersed in her own thoughts. Shaking them aside when she felt the pressure of the silence and the looks of the girls over her, she continued talking. “The staff was the one taking care of her after that and up until she debuted with us.”
“So, it’s almost as she doesn’t have a family.” Gahyeon trembled.
The stillness in the air became even more heavy over everyone’s shoulders now that it dawned on them the reality of the situation.
The sun now fully out of the horizon peaked through the window, illuminating the room with its warmth and hopeful brightness. Almost like a sign from the universe, a ray of light rested amicable over your peaceful, sleeping face.
Bora placed her hand over yours, caressing it gently with her thumb. After a few minutes of slumberous and wary silence, like a spotlight calling to her to raise her eyes, she scanned around the room, a delicate smile making its way to her lips as she came to a realization.
“Y/n does have a family.” Bora whispered, making all the girls raise their faces in confusion. One by one, as they locked their eyes with the other girls understood exactly what Bora was talking about, bringing kind grins into their faces.
As some happy tears started escaping some of the girls eyes, it dawned on them all your adventures together. All the hard and the pretty times, how everyone loved each other and accepted their highs and their lows. How every single one of them understood perfectly that blood is not what makes a family, but the unconditional love and support that all parts have for each other. Whatever you had going on in between, that was a family.
“She has us.” Yoohyeon nodded, posing her sight on your resting body.
Swallowed sobs reigned the air until a soft hum stood out. Like a ritual that you all had together now, Yubin’s gentle singing filled the air, the other girls recognizing the song immediately. Your song. One by one the other girls joined her, harmoniously swelling their surroundings with a much needed drop of hope for their soul. As the song continued, each one of them cuddled towards each other, seeking the warmth and comfort of their arms. A silent promise to deliver this and so much more to you for the rest of your lives.
The song was arriving to their end, as silence once again reigned the room when a sigh from the leader broke through.
“We’ll be here for Y/n, all the time she wants us to be by her side.” Minji flicked away a tear from her eye, nodding at her beautiful family around her.

Day 136
I’m still here, and I’m not going anywhere. As long as you live I’ll always be right behind you. I have so much left to give, just let me prove it.
A black canvas, covered in bright, sparkling freckles swallowed the sky, the horizon and the floor beneath you. The plain sound of your shaky breath echoed into eternity in every direction as you watched your feet walking on air. One step, two steps. Covered in a fair white robe, you felt the breeze dancing around you, but your skin didn’t perceive any cold from it, instead being embraced in a warm coating, from head to toe. Three steps, four steps. The stars around you didn’t seem to come closer or any farther as you kept advancing, but they all seemed to beat together at a constant beeping rhythm. Five steps.
A pair of bare feet met yours in a perfect reflection, and as you slowly raised your eyes. Whoever was standing right in front of you was wearing the exact same white robe as you, moved their hands the same way, breathed the same way… looked the same.
Standing right in front of a perfect reflection of yourself, you raised your hand towards your shoulder, pulling down the gown from it. Your reflection followed precisely, revealing your clean and well skin under. A relieved breath escaped your lips a little too soon, as quickly, a dark spot surged under your reflection's hand, spreading all over it’s arm, hand and chest.
You leaped behind startled but your reflection didn’t follow through, instead, it started stomping towards you, as the darkness climbed all the way to it’s face. Your hand frantically searched for your shoulder, but there was nothing over yours.
“Who are you!?” You pleaded, running backwards to keep your distance with the impostor.
“Don’t you recognize me Y/n?” Your reflection's voice gritted through the air as a crooked smile was painted in it’s lips. “It’s me, the real you.”
“No, no you are not.” You gasped back, with a hit of doubt that didn’t go unnoticed by the entity in front of you.
“You see? Not even you know who you are.” The reflection reached it’s completely darkened hand towards you, inviting you closer. “Then what makes you think I can’t be you?”
“I-” You stuttered, the never ending starry void where you kept running away also allowed this creature to stay mere inches away from you, no matter how much you seemed to pull yourself far away from it. “Please go away.”
“You know I never will,” It tilted it’s head, sneering back. “Everyone around you has never loved you enough to stay, but I’ll be the only one faithfull by your side forever.”
It didn’t have to hit so low, but there was this little spark burning inside you that kept you up on your feet to keep running, to keep fighting. Through the sting in your eyes, you watched the stars start beeping at a faster rate, ready to try one more time.
“They haven’t left me yet,” You fired back. Your reflection glitched it’s presence before letting out an evil chuckle that echoed through the void.
“But you already know they will!” It scoffed, halting its steps. “Then why wait for it to hurt even more?”
“Because they waited for me.”
All signs of fun were erased from your reflection's face, letting you breath out for a second. But a disgusted smirk plastered across its face as it turned itself into someone else. The wide and gentle smile, her arms that always welcomed you in and her brown eyes that always made you feel safe.
“Minji Unnie?...” You gasped.
“And once again, you come in and ruin absolutely everything for us.” The voice was on point, making you trip over your feet and fall down in surprise. “It would have been best if you d-”
“I heard her! She said my name!” Minji’s voice bounced around, but not coming from the bizarre Minji standing in front of you. “Shhh, it’s okay, you’re okay.”
The creature before you took your form again, it’s breath angrily rising. It quickly shapeshifted to another form.
“We don’t want you back!” It panted now as Bora, shouting to make its voice be heard over the accelerating heartbeat. “We don’t-”
“It’s okay, it’s all a dream!” Now it was Bora’s voice responding from beyond what your eyes could see. You saw your hand light up, warming up as if another hand graced on top of yours. “Everything’s gonna be okay. We’re here.”
The stars around you finally started getting closer, to both of you. The light engulfing both you and your reflection. It felt warm and gentle on your skin, but you couldn’t say the same thing for the other you in that place.
Loud screeches of pain as it battled against the bright light touching it’s skin, shrinking against itself in its own place. You felt your feet floating, like a certain force pulling you up from the starry sky. You felt a cold hand grab you from the hem of your gown, as it’s colorless eyes searched painfully for yours.
“YOU’LL NEVER GET RID OF ME!” Your bizarre reflection snapped back at you in desperation, almost like a cry for help.
“Maybe,” You looked back at it, and just for a second, it’s eyes mirrored your human color instead of being a black, empty void. “But I’ll never stop trying.”
The bright light of the room filled your view, as your eyes snapped open. Trying urgently to adjust to the new light, your eyes blinked and scanned from side to side, as the blurriness slowly dissipated. A flash of pain escurried from your shoulder all the way up your chest, arm and head, as you looked down to a freshly closed wound, a gauze tenderly placed above your stitches.
You looked at the shadows hovering above you, dazzled by the ceiling’s light once again when you turned your eyes up to one side. Two unknown faces, dressed up with scrubs were hurriedly taking your vitals, alternating the view between the monitors and you. Moving your eyes upward and to the other side, there they were.
Bora rested her head on the edge, caressing your hand with her thumb, looking it you with the brightest eyes you had ever seen, and hovering just above her, Minji, flicking off a stray tear away from her face and Dami, a glowing smile adorning her face, one that cutely wrinkled her eyes as her eyes refused to leave you.
“You’re finally back.” Minji whispered as her tender grin grew up across her face. “Everything’s gonna be okay.”
Bora tenderly caressed your cheek as her own eyes filled with tears unwilling to drop. With the strength available in your body, you offered back a smile that immediately broke her.
“We couldn’t bear the idea of losing you again,” She cried, clinging to your hand. “We missed you so much.”
“I’m not going anywhere Unnie, that’s a promise.” You mumbled back.
“Precisely young lady, you are not allowed to go anywhere yet. At least until tomorrow” One of the nurses added, making all of us chuckle and lightening up the aura in the room. “Your vitals are running as they should and your recovery seems to be advancing correctly, you’ll be staying just one more day here.”
All the room cheered at the good news, relieved. You raised the bed to sit up and chat with the girls about everything that had been happening throughout the days, how the bastard that shot you was convicted and dealt with, with no mercy. They told you about how all the industry took steps to ensure the safety of the idols thanks to this incident, fundraisers in your name against gun violence and regulations, and they way the world looked at this with their own eyes.
“Here, take a look at this,” Dami handed you her phone, a playful smile as she did. “Would be better to focus on the good.”
“Wow…” You scrolled down an infinite stream of positive and supportive messages from Somnias all over the world. Outpouring love and comfort on every social media, erasing any doubt in your mind on how the people received you. “I didn’t think they would like me that much.”
“We had the same feeling when we debuted as DreamCatcher too.” Minji added, recalling her memory. “But at the end, the ones that really love you are the ones who stick around.”
“And the ones who don’t can shove their opinions up their-”
“Bora!” Minji covered your ears quickly, as she snapped her eyes towards the other girl.
You chuckled at the image, with Dami a few steps behind trying to keep her laugh too. But the moment was interrupted quickly by a knock on the door, followed by a nurse peeking her head inside.
“Sorry for interrupting,” She excused herself, “Your family came to see you!”
“But I don’t have a fam-”
“I’m not shutting you up the way I would like just because you’re still healing,” Siyeon’s voice accompanied her silhouette as she entered the room, a bouquet of flowers in hand. Followed by Handong, Yoohyeon and Gahyeon, each one carrying a present in their hands. “But as your official big sister, I’ll patiently wait until that arm works again to do it so.”
The remark made you giggle as you glanced at the girls and the radiant auras they carried with them. Now surrounded by an endless supply of snacks, courtesy of Yoohyeon and Handong, the sweet smell of fresh flowers by Siyeon and a new fluffy friend to hug by Gahyeon and a lot of laughs, you couldn’t help but let some tears drop from your eyes.
“Why are you crying?” Yoohyeon approached the bed, handing you a tissue.
“This must be how it feels like…” You stuttered. “Having a family.”
“But you have one!” Gahyeon, who was sitting in the bed with you chimed in.
“I never told you before…” You swallowed, avoiding all their glances as you searched for the courage to come clean about your past. “But I have never met my family, so as far as I know, I don’t really have one.”
You looked up, only to be received by their tender smiles. Almost as if they already knew.
“What are we? Painted?” Handong sneered, making everyone laugh instantly. You giggled too, but your wondering eyes gave up that you were still a little confused.
“Family is so much more than blood lineage Y/n,” Minji added, trying to clear your mind. “And I really like the one that we have right here.”
Something clicked in your mind, calling even more tears to your eyes but a huge smile to your face. The girls all surrounded you in a careful but very welcome and warm hug. Submerged in the comfortable silence surrounding all of you, you could listen to some of the girls crying too.
But it didn’t matter anyway, you had everything that you ever wanted now.
“We’ll always be here for you Y/n.” Gahyeon whispered as she took your hand in hers. “We ain’t going nowhere.”
You nodded chuckling, cleaning some of your tears away from your cheeks, but they didn’t stop coming out of your eyes.
“Well, since you're being dismissed tomorrow,” Bora tried to light up the atmosphere a little. “What should we do to celebrate?”
“I suggest an arm wrestling tournament!” Siyeon barged in with a loud chuckle, making everyone turn around to face in disapproval. “It- It was just a joke.”
“But yeah! Putting all dangerous stuff outside,” Handong giggled looking back at you. “What do you want to do tomorrow when we’re finally back home?”
You scanned around at the bright faces surrounding you, each one bringing up that warm sensation on your chest. You had no idea what you did to deserve this much love in your life, but whatever it was, there was no way you would let it slip through your fingers again.
“Wherever you are,” You answered. “I’m already home.”

operation fools in love//luke patterson
requested by a lovely anon
word count: 3333(!!!)
a/n: i still don’t know how to write endings
The corridor was noisy with loud chatter, quietly whispered gossip and the sound of rushing students' shoes hitting against the floor.
You hummed  'edge of great' as you started fishing out the books you need for class from your locker. It has been stuck in your head since yesterday evening when the guys played it for you and Flynn at band practice.
You were about to close your locker when he poofed next to you.
“Hi, y/n!”
“AAHHH” you screamed, earning a few side looks from passing by students.
“Ahh, I accidentally kicked my locker, haha…”you started explaining yourself before turning back to your open locker. You sent a glare in Luke’s way.
“What did Julie and I say to you? Do not teleport randomly to us at school!”
He chuckled.
“Yeah, rules, rules, I don’t care. I just wanted to drop in and say hi!” he smiled at you with his signature Luke smile.
“Well, you did. That’s all? I kinda need to go to class.” you spot Julie in the corner of your eyes as you walk over to her locker. You quickly wave at her and soon after she comes over so you can talk to Luke without looking crazy.
Luke mumbles something under his breath and goes to scratch the back of his head.
“No! Uhm..Hi Jules… So y/n I also kinda wanted to ask if you would come to our gig tonight? You know, we are playing not far from that food place you like? "
You smiled, appreciating that he remembered your favorite food place.
"Well,erm.. I guess? I want to but I might have dance practice, so I am not sure." you say, wishing you'd know for sure but you won't find out till the end of your classes.
Luke's lips formed an 'o' before his gaze fell down on his shoes.
"Oh well.. I-okay. Bye?" he says in an unsure tone before disappearing, leaving you to face Julie.
"Well, wasn't that adorable?"  she asks with a smug grin.
"What? What are you talkin' bout Jules?" you ask honestly confused. She laughs and puts her hand on your shoulder.
"Sweetheart, you two are just oblivious to each other!"
"I don't… What?"
"You like him. He likes you. It's not that confusing. Really it is obvious."
"Shhh, quiet!" you shh-ed her, quickly making sure if Luke was 100 percent gone. "I.. I don't like him."
It was unnecessary, you couldn't even fool yourself and especially not Julie.
"Y/N, come on girl, I know you do. And he does like you too! I mean I am writing songs with him, do you know how many lovesick lyrics he has written lately? It is making me sick." she laughed.
"Well, he might have written them about someone else. Maybe you? You two have amazing chemistry."
Julie sighed and grabbed both of your shoulders so she could look at you.
"Y/N, honey. Believe me when I say he is head over heels for you. Why else would he want you to be at our gig so much?”
„Luke is literally so passionate about music? Of course he wants to share it with me, cause he wants to share it with everyone.”
„Ahg, girl you need glasses cuz you can't see shit. Look, if  prove he likes you too will you believe me?”
„Sure. I mean you can’t prove something that is not true but, sure go ahead, ’prove it’.”
Julie rolled her eyes and opened her mouth to respond but luckily for you the bell rang.
“See you later, alligator!” and with that you were off to class, leaving Julie alone to work on her master plan.
She knew she had to pull this off because the mutual pinning was unbearable but she also knew she couldn't do it alone. She'll need all the help she can get and that includes Flynn and the rest of her ghost band.
Tumblr media
You changed into your leggings and sweatshirt before heading into the gym where the dance practice took place. You were quite bumped. Don't get me wrong dancing is everything to you but.. You really did want to see the guys perform.
You and the other kids were warming up, waiting for your teacher to start showing the choreography. But neither of you expected what she did next. Much to your surprise Reggie and Alex appeared next to her and started messing with her water bottle before you could even open your mouth.
For a moment no one acknowledged what was going on. Some were too busy chatting and warming up and Ms Janett was too busy with her phone. The two ghosts seemed to have noticed that and after exchanging a knowing smirk they grabbed the phone out of your teachers hands. She perked up, a mixture of anger and confusion on her face. And then… she saw her own phone floating in tin air.
“Stop!!” you whisper shouted  in the boys direction but they only gave you a smirk before Reggie started searching for the music player application. Alex pointed over Reggie’s shoulder.
“Uuu, play that one.”
And as soon as the Lady Gaga song started playing Ms Janett let out a scream causing everyone to look up. You saw the boys dancing with the phone and the pompoms in their hand (although you have no idea where Alex got those pompoms) but everyone else just saw those items moving by themselves.
“GHOOOST!!! Everybody RUUUUUUN!”
Some people followed the teacher, some stayed behind to take a closer look only to be scared away by a flying pompom.
“What the heck are you two doing?” you turned to them, being  rather angry,  once you were the only living person in the gym. Seriously, what were they thinking?
“We cleared your afternooon! You can come to our concert!” Reggie exclaimed and put down the phone.
“Do you think I would go after this fiasco you just pulled??” you were definitely angry now.
“Oh come on, if not for us then for Julie..and for Luke.”
You snapped your head in Alex's direction at the mention of Luke’s name.
“What do...No. Don’t try to divert the topic. What you did was incredebly stupid! What if.. What if someone connects the dots and figures out that Julie’s hologram band is actually a ghost band? There will be scientist and ghost busters and-”
“Shh, Y/N jeez, calm down. it will be okay. We’ll see you at the show.”
And they poofed away. They simply left  you alone with your thoughts. You need to come up with some kind of explanation for the dance class but right now you need to go home and change. The boys were right, even if they kinda (really) caused a mess here you still like them and don’t want to miss seeing them live ((Winky face)).
Tumblr media
Meanwhile you were sorting through your dresses and outfit options. Julie and the band arrived at the venue for rehearsal.
Usually it was Luke who hyped Julie up before shows but right now the roles were switched because Luke looked like a kicked puppy ever since he learned you wouldn’t be able to make it to their gig. Of course Julie knew you will be here, as she was the one to send the boys to scare away your teacher. It was all part of her little plan.
Like mentioned Luke wrote half a dozen songs, all centered around his feelings for you. He stated to Jules that he will definitely not play them for you because there is just no way you like him back, but now Luke thinks you won’t be there so Julie is on the next step of her genius plan. Convince Luke to play one of his love songs.
“Luke, Lukey-poo, my man.” she started getting more and more cringy. “I thought we could close with Hero and Heroine? I know you said you don’t want to play it but it is such a great song, you definitely shouldn’t let it be just another forgotten song that stays on a piece of paper. Plus it is perfect for closing, think about it!”
“Julie...I-I told you I don’t wanna play it.”
“You told me you don’t wanna play it in front of Y/N, which would be the whole point of writing love songs to her but that's besides the point right now. Pleeassee?”
Luke took a deep breath and looked at his ghost mates for...What for? Support? Advice? He is not sure. He does want to play the song, pour out his emotions through the song but the question is..should he? He knows you can’t be here which both makes him wanna play the song and not at the same time.
“I agree with Julie, dude.” Alex said, shrugging his shoulder like he knew of nothing. Reggie nodded along.
“Okay..If you all think I w-”
Julie stood up and clapped her hands together.
“Cool! It is settled. I’ll need to make a phone call, brb.”
“Barbeque?” asked Reggie confused. Which made Alex laugh.
“Brb actually means be right back. Willie told me.” the blond made his way over to Luke and gently punched his shoulder. “Really Luke, that song is great. And I know you think there is no way Y/N would like you back but I am sure if she could hear it-”
“I’m a ghost, Alex! I can’t just confess to her, how are we gonna date? We can’t even touch.”
“That is totally not the reason. You are afraid she would decline your affection, I get it, but believe me I have seen her look at you. That longing in her eyes when I mention your name. She likes you.”
Luke rolled his eyes.
“Not that it matters, she won't hear the song and that is my final say in this.”
Tumblr media
As soon as Julie stepped out of the small, cigarette smelling backroom she dialed your number. You picked up after two rings.
“Hi, Jules.”
“Hi girl, I heard what the boys did, I am so, so sorry. You know they are idiots.”she said trying real hard not to laugh but she reminded herself of her plan and pulled on her poker face.”But..Are you coming to the show? Flynn could pick you up; she is about to get going.”
“Yeah I’ll come, tell the boys I will call my teacher and say it was a prank so they can thank me for saving their ghostbutts.”
Julie giggled and started playing with her hair. She walked up and down the small corridor that led to the stage from the backroom.
“I will, I better get back and warm up but you should call Flynn so she won’t leave without you.”
Of course Flynn wouldn’t leave without you. She was waiting in her car two blocks from your home waiting for your phone car.
She didn’t have to wait long, you called her and she pretended to not expect it. Flynn kinda became your and Julie’s driver ever since she got her driver's  license last month.
By the time the two of you got to the venue the opening was playing their last song and the place was already packed with dancing teenagers. Flynn dragged you to the bar and asked for a cola for herself and a (favourite drink) for you.
The two of you hung back and sipped your drinks until Julie appeared on the stage. Then you took Flynn by the hand and  started pulling her toward the stage. Only she held you back.
"Hey, what's up? Don't we wanna go and watch them from closer?"
"Oh, well, uhm...I'd rather hang back. The crowd kind of makes me anxious right now." Flynn said. You lifted an eyebrow at her. Flynn being anxious? In a crowd?? That did not convince you. But you didn’t argue.
"Do you need to step outside a little or…"
"Nah, it's good, let's just stay here in the back."
So you did. You sang and danced along to the songs you both knew so well. You tried  your best not to stare at Luke too much but let’s be honest you failed miserably. Flynn occasionally wiggled her eyebrows at you when she caught you ‘drooling over him’ as she put it.
After they finished playing Stand Tall you expected them to bow and ‘disappear’ but much to your surprise Julie grabbed the mic and brought it to her lips.
“Hello, hello, helloo! Do y’all wanna hear one more song?” the audience erupted into a loud cheer. It was so heartwarming to watch. Julie doing what she was born to do, playing music and enchanting the crowd. Flynn seemed to have the same thought because she looked at her with such pride. You pulled her into a big hug and the two of you waited for the crowd to quiet down so Jules could go on.
“Allright, allright. Now this song will be a bit different but...I will let Luke here tell it.”
You just became more and more surprised when Luke stepped closer to the mic and spoke into it, looking kinda...nervous?
“Ohm..Hello everyone! So uh..This song is dedicated to a special someone, the songs called-”
“What’s the special someone’s name?” your eyes travelled to Reggie who asked the question with a huge grin. Luke turned to look at the bassist. If looks could kill Reggie would be double dead. But before Luke could give a voice to his disapproval towards Reggie’s question Julie spoke up.
“Yeah! What’s the name?” she turned towards the crowd and started chanting. “What’s the name?”
Soon Reggie and Alex joined with smiles painted on their faces along with the audience. You were so freaking confused. You looked at Flynn for some explanation but how would she know about it.
“OKAY, okay, stop!” Luke yelled before laughing a little. “All right I will tell you guys but you have to promise me you won’t tell anyone?”
All of a sudden you felt sick and wanted to get out of here. You were so not in the mood to hear Luke declare his love for someone.
“This song is dedicated to..To Y/N. Unfortunately she wouldn't be here today but..she is an amazing person. Hope you all like the song.”
He...He couldn’t be talking about you, could he?
He started strumming his guitar and soon Reggie joined in with the bass and Alex with the drums. Jullie clapped her hands together and kept sending encouraging looks for the boy.
“It's too late baby, there's no turning around, I've got my hands in my pocket and my head in a cloud, this is how I do, when I think about you,I never thought that you could break me apart,I keep a sinister smile and a hole of my heart” he sang into the mic, his voice filling in the whole club “You want to get inside, then you can to get in line but not this time”
“'Cause you caught me off guard, now I'm running and screaming!” Julie joined in for the line“I feel like a hero and you're my heroine.”
“I won't try to philosophize, I'll just take a deep breath and I'll look in your eyes, this is how I feel and it's so so real I got a closet filled up to the brim with the ghosts of my past and the skeletons, and I don't know why, you'd even try but I won't lie” Luke sang and you finally realised what was going in. He wrote this song. For you. You looked over to Flynn who nodded towards the stage and mouthed ‘go’.
I feel like a hero and you are my heroine. Do you know that your love is the sweetest sin?
You started making your way towards the stage, slipped through the cracks between dancing people and singing fans. The further you got the harder it was to get through but you heard Luke’s voice and you kept going.
And I feel a weakness coming on, never felt so good to be so wrong. Had my heart on lock down and then you turned me around
And I’m feeling like a new born child..
You finally break through a few screaming girls and see him.
“-Every time I get a chance to see you smile. It’s not complicated, I’m so jaded.” Luke sings and looks at the audience and- He spots you. Looking up at him with eyes wide open and admiration on your face. His voice cracks because of the sudden surprise of your presence but you smile at him and that is all he needs to continue.
“And you caught me off guard...Now I’m running and screaming”
He sang the song with such passion that even if you weren’t before now you were absolutely sure this wasn’t just a simple crush.
When they finished you didn’t waste a lot of time, you ran backstage, quickly waving your vip ticket.  You almost run into Julie on your way to the door of the backroom.
“Who- Y/N!”
“This was your doing, wasn’t it?” you smiled at her already knowing the answer. She flashed a toothy grin.
“Well I had a great team behind me but yeah, Operation FiL was my idea.”
“Phil?” you ask back .
“No, no. F i L. Fools in Love. Now go get ‘im tiger!”
You shook your head and entered the backroom. Luke stood with his back facing you but as soon as he saw you in the mirror he spinned around. For a moment you forgot he was a ghost and ran to give him a hug.
“Y/N, no-” he put his hands out so he could catch you, simply out of reflex but he didn’t expect to actually hold you in his arms. You both looked at each other with eyes as wide as a 6 lane highway.
“How can I-”
“Do you care?”  you closed the little distance between the two of you and pressed your lips against his.  They were just as soft as you imagined oh, so many times before. He kissed back gently, afraid that this is just a dream. But this was definitely too real to be a dream. You unfortunately had to pull back to catch your breath but Luke looked leaned closer to press his forehead against yours.
“The song was so beautiful, I loved it.” you whisper. He just stared at you with a smile.
“If I knew you would kiss me, I would have played it a long time ago.” you giggled and brought your lips together for one more kiss. He let his hands wander this time but so did you. Your fingers ran through his brown hair, this being something you wanted to do for so long. He kept one hand on your waist and placed the other on the side of your face.
Your lips moved so in sync like you’ve been doing this all your lives. You were so drawn to each other, you felt like you couldn’t pull away in that moment even if you tried. Like this invisible magical force just glued the two of you to-
“Okay, that is enough! Get out I need to change!” Julie brusted in causing Luke to jump up and cling to you like Scooby Doo.
“Wow, you are so brave.''you laughed rolling your eyes at. “Come on, let’s leave alone Julie. We’ll meet ya at the car?”
Jules nodded and sent a wink in your way. You walked outside, both of you grinning like idiots.
“So uhm...Does this make us, Us?”
“Yeah. I mean if that’s what you want too.” you look at your shoes and bite your lower lip waiting for his answer.
“There’s nothing I want more.” he said. “Oh well..maybe another kiss wouldn’t be so bad either..”

Smoke Shield
Thank you so much @ringofthenibelung-blog for trusting me with this! I hope you like it!
The gif is slightly relevant I couldn’t help myself
Usual warnings, mentions of violence, injuries, swearing, my terrible writing etc
Tumblr media
The smoke was overwhelming, it burnt your nose and throat. Tears fell down your cheeks in an attempt to push through the smoke. If you knew that this was the way things would have ended up- you'd never have touched him.
It all started a month ago. You were earning your stripes. As a female dealer things were obviously more difficult than anticipated. The sicarios' jokes, many not taking you seriously... and of course 'El Jefe' was non too pleased that a new kid had shown up on his side of the tracks. He wanted you to know it too.
The unopened envelope sat in your dining room table, the quaint gold lettering spelled out your name. Deciding, against your better judgement, you opened it. The gold lettering continued on the letter itself. An invitation. A dinner party. Wear something fancy. Your breath caught in the back of your throat when you saw the signature. Miguel Ángel Felix Gallardo. The breath almost disappeared entirely when you saw todays date as the day of the party. That's the  last time you'll leave a letter unopened for a couple days.... whatever the outcome of todays fiesta.
You turned the invitation over and over, thoughts of clothes, shoes and make up turned along with it. Contemplating is no use, it won't get you anywhere. The wardrobe beckoned. You pushed aside the usual attire that wouldn't do. Oh no, Miguel needed to see what exactly he was messing with. He'd be the one that would be sorry. The thigh-high slit of the final dress you pulled out would do just perfectly. The material was soft on your fingertips, a small smile spread across your lips. He'll be sorry.
By the time you had your hair done, makeup finished and show stopping dress on evening had rolled around and it was time to face the music. You got into the backseat of your car and let the driver take you to the dinner. The streets of Guadalajara passed slowly by as the driver winded his way through the city- it wasn't long before he pulled up at the looming gates of Felix's home. Another breath caught in the bac of your throat as the gates opened, you glanced behind you- fearing it would be the last time you see the outside world before the gates slammed shut behind the car.
'Patrona, I'll return by midnight,' the driver announced opening your door. The doors to the house swung open, as if expecting you. The steps seemed to go on forever, in fact there was more now than when you began climbing. The doors were oddly welcoming, too welcoming. The butler handed you a glass of champagne and led you to the main hall.
A hush fell over the room as you walked in. All eyes turned to you. To see the beauty that just entered the fiesta. Men whispered, women glared  but above all Miguel Angel's jaw dropped for a split second before he regained his composure. He turned his attention back to the politician that he was conversing with.
'Waltz?' A voice sounded from behind you. Rafa stood there, his hand extended. You shrugged. What's the harm. The musicians played the slow song as your hand grew clammy in rafa's. The floor felt as if it was going to cave in. If only you listened to that warning.
The song eventually ended. Rafa moved on, you spied Sofia entering so no explanation needed. Feeling slightly disheartened at not getting your showdown with El Jefe you deicded to down one last glass of champagne and turned to face the door to leave.
The next few moments became a complete blur. Felix's hand on your shoulder, his chuckle, a loud bang and then smoke. The floor hit you hard. The pain in your shoulder grew excruciating. You slowly lifted your head. Daring to look around at the scene in front of you. Lungs burning. The first sense that came back was sight- but it was hazy. Smoke? The second was sound. The crackling and roaring. Fire.
Breaths quickening in panic you glance around again. A hand sticking out of the smoke caught your attention. You lean towards it, hoping whoever it is is okay. The skin was discoloured from the fire, the once crisp white shirt was now charred black. Miguel Angel was just laying there. Helpless. You knelt beside him, secretly hoping to see a sign of life. His chest moved slightly. Your brain automatically goes into panic mode. The flames roared closer now. You both would be incinerated if you couldn't formulate a plan. Fast. You  glanced around again. No one was in sight. But how? The orange glow burnt your eyelids as the flames danced across the floor even faster. Daring you not to get out.
Your arms began working without you realising. Pushing the debris off of him. He might be a rival but no one deserves this. You know, ironically. Serves his cold dementor right, to be ended by heat.
You pushed those thoughts out of your mind. You had just moved the last piece of what once was a stone pillar out of the way when a deafening crash came from the other end of the room. The first chandelier crashed under the pressure of the heat. You gingerly glanced up. One was dauntingly hanging above you and Miguel. The burning in your lungs grew worse. Vision clouded with tears.
Where the superhuman strength came from you'll never know. But you'll be forever thankful. Managing to lift Felix up and support his weight was a miracle. His beard scratched the side of your face harshly. Step by step you edged closer to the door.
He was clearly somewhat conscious judging by the soft grunts that came from him every couple of steps. Another crash sounded as you collapsed up against the exit. The second chandelier smashed into the floor. A shard of glass flew across the floor, blood began to stain the bottom of your dress. 'Fuck,' was all you were able to get out.
Your fingers brushed against the door handle. Felix's weight was becoming too much. With one final once of strength you pushed the door open. It gave way as you pushed Felix out before you fell out behind him. The final chandelier fell to the floor where you both once lay. Smoke poured out behind you.
Taking what was definitely the last little bit of strength you had you caught your rival under the arms and dragged him outside. Actually getting him down the steps proved too much. His weight caused you to land on your toosh. Your lucky stars were shining as your driver raced up to you, along with some of Miguel's men.
Then the world went black.
You know the phrase never go to the light? That was the first thing that came to mind as your eyes fluttered open. A harsh bright light shone down on you. You shot up, breath quickening. White walls, stack of books. Wait. A hospital?
The next scene that came into your sight caused a lot of confusion. Miguel Angel was leaning up against the window ledge. Dangling a ciggarette between his lips. He looked a little worse for wear.
'Pues mija. I hear that I have you to thank for getting me out of there.'
'Just doing what anyone would.'
'In those shoes?'
'Don't make me regret it,' you challenged.
'Why don't I thank you for keeping me from being smoked dealer.'

blueberry pancakes // rc
part four | series masterlist
warning; language, angst, fluff
summary; y/n goes to the wreck to meet sarah and kie, before her day takes a drastic turn with one simple question
word count; 3.1k
Tumblr media
after continuous days of kie and sarah begging her, y/n finally agreed to meet them at the wreck. she had been slightly avoiding the boys for the past few days, knowing that her attendance at a kook party was now public knowledge to them and they surely disapproved.
she didn’t want to go through the lecture every time she hung out with the pogues. they were her best friends, but they weren’t hearing her out. she’d been left in the dark for the past few months anyways. with kie and jj, and john b and sarah, while pope focused heavily on his scholarship stuff and still got time with john b and jj alone at times.
but she went to the wreck anyways, walking into the restaurant with a light smile on her face despite the hesitation coursing through her. she saw sarah and kie sitting in the far corner of the restaurant, and laughed when kie started waving her arms in the air.
she walked over to them and gave both of them hugs before siding in beside kie and across from sarah. they caught up quickly, listening to sarah talk about the progression in her relationship along with how things at home were slightly rocky. y/n talked about babysitting and how both of the girls were doing, while kie rattled off different songs she’d been playing around with lately.
y/n almost thought she’d make it out alive until the boys sauntered into the wreck, bright smiles on their faces. y/n rolled her eyes at kie’s insistent promises that she didn’t invite them, but told her it was fine. she couldn’t hide forever, despite the fact that she was still mad about sarah’s spying just a week prior.
the boys slid in beside them, and y/n found herself focusing on the setting sun in order to relieve herself of some of the anxiety pumping through her.
she hummed when her name was called, looking across the table towards jj who had a smirk plastered on his face.
“how’s kook life?” y/n rolled her eyes at the question, trying to fight off the familiar feeling in her chest.
“i don’t know, jj, ask a kook.” he scoffed in return, leaning back in his seat as he rolled his eyes.
“i thought i did.” y/n let out a slightly bitter laugh before john b tried to cut the conversation short.
“knock it off, jj.” the blond boy rolled his eyes again, letting out a heavy sigh at his friend’s attitude.
“what, jb? we’ve all noticed her shift in behavior. she’s gone full kook now, and can’t even spend time with us anymore. she goes to kook parties, and hangs out with the three stooges every chance she gets! she might as well wear vineyard vines and start drinking mimosas at brunch.” y/n was staring at the table, trying to fight off the mix of emotions she was feeling.
“y/n, why are you hanging out with them so much?” her eyes snapped up to meet sarah’s, narrowing ever so slightly before she started talking.
“i don’t spend time with you guys as much because this is always what it turns into. you can’t handle the idea that any of us have friends outside of this group. i love you guys but whether you notice it or not, things aren’t the same as they used to be.” they all stared at her with confused expressions, but she just laughed.
“see, you don’t even notice because you’re all in your own little bubble, but i’m always the one on the outskirts of it all. i’m the one that doesn’t quite fit into the mix anymore and-”
“so you go full kook on us?” jj spat bitterly, eyes narrowed as he tried to put the pieces together. there was no question that jj had the biggest vendetta against the kooks. his hatred ran the furthest, and y/n was one of his best friends, so it was inevitable that he’s be mad about it all.
it didn’t feel worth it to y/n to tell jj why she started hanging out with rafe. it was the truth, that she’d felt disconnected from her friends for a while at this point, but it didn’t feel worth it to offer up the rest of her explanation.
jj didn’t need to know that y/n had feelings for him. feelings that were now less than a thought in her mind, due to a certain kook. she didn’t need to tell the blond boy with a underlying kleptomaniac tendencies that he’d completely stole her heart, only to throw it in the ocean and give his own away to someone else.
she didn’t want to tell jj about her feelings, even if she had forgotten about them lately, because she knew it wouldn’t end in a happy understanding amongst the friends sat around the table. she’d only have to explain herself five times over, and she didn’t want to do that right now, while a bright red flame burned inside of her.
“hanging out with kooks doesn’t mean i went full kook, jj. i hang out with them because they make me feel like i’m important, not just another body on a boat or another person to share beer with.” jj was the only one still mad at this point, the other four trying to recount how different she had been, and for a while.
“y/n, i’m sorry, we didn’t-”
“you didn’t notice? i know. you guys only ever notice each other.” she muttered softly before standing up, her chair scraping across the floor of the restaurant. “i knew i shouldn’t have come here. not a day goes by where one of you doesn’t make me feel like shit for enjoying myself.”
“y/n, please-”
“forget it, okay? if me hanging out with other people pisses you off so bad then stop calling me. i’ve hung out with all of you for years, and i’ve felt more myself in the past week than i have in months.” she grabbed her phone and keys off of the table, trying to round the table but kie grabbed her wrist.
“y/n.” the girl looked down at her, eyes full of tears as she waited for kie to say something else, but it never came.
so she ripped her wrist out of kie’s hand and took a few steps towards the door before spinning around one more time, chewing on her bottom lip as she looked at her friends that stared at her with solemn expressions.
“and the next time i tell you where i’m going, don’t send someone to spy on me. it’s not hard for me to guess why sarah’s conveniently at a kook party the same night as me.” she turned once more and walked out of the restaurant, shoving the door harshly on her way out. the table stayed silent for a minute, before jj scoffed again.
“what’s her problem?” john b sent him a harsh glare, fighting back the urge to punch the table or his best friend.
“you! you’re her problem, jj! she only started hanging out with rafe because she fell for your sorry ass and you were too dumb to notice.” jj’s eyes blew wide at the confession, his heart dropping into his stomach at the information.
“she what?” everyone at the table was staring at john b now, confused about how he knew something that none of them knew about.
“yeah, idiot. she had feelings for you but all you ever did was talk about kiara all the fucking time, so she got sick of it. she reached her breaking point and i guess rafe gave her the opportunity to forget about it. so that’s why she hangs out with kooks, jj. she was trying to forget about you and started enjoying herself instead. so let her have fun for once.”
the table fell silent again, kie drinking in the information as much as jj was. pope had been silent the whole time, not knowing which side he was on in this situation. he hated the kooks almost as much as jj, but he did notice y/n had been off for a while now, and if she found a way to be happy, why should they stop her?
“sarah, the other night...” kie tried to ask about y/n’s night at kelce’s house, but she was still shock ridden by john b’s confession.
“she looked the happiest i’ve probably ever seen her. rafe too, if i’m honest. rafe hasn’t smiled like that in years.” the table had mixed reactions to this, john b smiling softly since he knew y/n had been happy, but he couldn’t help the distaste he had for rafe.
y/n had been driving for some time now, driving long enough for the sun to fall and the moon to shine. she wasn’t sure where to go until the sun set and it seemed so obvious to her.
so she found herself at the diner, phone forgot in the car and hands gripping a cup of hot coffee. her hair was up, though multiple strands had fallen in the time she’d been there. she had been consumed in her thoughts for hours at this point, eyes bloodshot from tears and throat hoarse from yelling and sobbing.
she had let everything sink in in the time she’d spent alone. she realized how long it had actually been since she’d been happy around all of the pogues. it’d seemed like forever since jj had been pining after kie, and sarah had joined the group, making john b’s head consistently reside up in the clouds.
she couldn’t remember how long it’d been since she had to find comfort in pope, despite the two of them never being the closest. she loved pope, but she had been so used to having jj or john b to lean on, that both of them being swooped up into relationships left her at a loss.
she didn’t know who she had anymore, and that was the hardest pill to swallow. she knew things would change when high school ended, most of them moving away to different colleges, but she didn’t expect it to happen while they were still in high school.
she had been so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice the truck pull up to the diner, nor the boy jumping out and walking towards the door. he would’ve sighed out in relief, but he wasn’t surprised to find her here. in fact, it was the first place he looked after he got the phone call.
he slid into the seat across from her before she even noticed he was here. her head snapped up, the momentary fear leaving at the sight of him. though, he had a different reaction when she looked at him.
his face fell, his heart slightly cracking. he could tell she had been crying, anybody with a set of eyes would’ve been able to tell. her lips were slightly chapped, and her fingers were slightly shaking, undoubtedly cold from the chill in the diner.
her eyes were so red he had half a thought that she was high. they were glassy, yet dull and emotionless. his shoulders slumped at the sight, and he reached for her hand but flinched when he felt how cold they were.
“jesus, y/n.” he mumbled softly before sliding out of the booth. “stay here.” he walked out of the diner, her eyes following him as he ran back to the truck, reaching into the backseat and pulling out a hoodie he had thrown back there months ago.
he jogged back inside and slid back into his seat before holding the jacket out to her, silently telling her to take it. she did, and slid it on shortly after. it was a comfortable size, warmth engulfing her on impact.
“thanks.” she said softly and rafe sent her a small smile. “how’d you even know i was here?”
“sarah called me, asked if i’d seen you because you weren’t answering your phone and i guess they stopped by your house. i tried to call, just to see if you were ignoring them or everyone, and then i came here.” he shrugged, not thinking it was that big of a deal.
but to her it was. the fact that he cared enough to look, on top of the fact that he knew exactly where she’d be, warmed her heart. it skipped a beat as she watched him smile at her, finding her intoxicating even in a time like this.
“what happened?” she shrugged softly, eyes falling back to her coffee as she pulled the sleeves of the hoodie over her hands.
“just the usual kook lecture. ‘why them’, ‘how’s kook life’, ‘you don’t hang out with us anymore’. you know, the usual stuff.” she shrugged again, but rafe was able to pick up on how much she actually did care and how much it bothered her that her friends were acting like this.
she hated fighting with the pogues. it didn’t happen that often, but they couldn’t stop themselves when they felt like they were losing their best friend to the people they hated most.
but they didn’t realize that she had felt that way for months at this point. she felt like they were all falling into new routines that didn’t include her, and while that would’ve been fine if she had school to focus on, or any other friends to distract herself with, the only thing she had were the two girls she babysat. it wasn’t easy to distract herself.
until she started hanging out with rafe.
spending time with rafe made her feel important. it made her feel like someone was actually thinking of her, wondering how she truly was doing or if she was having a good time in any given situation.
rafe made her feel like someone took the time out of their day to check in on her, even if it was just a simple text, or a few hours at some old diner. rafe cameron made her feel important to someone, and that meant everything to her.
“well, what if your favorite kook buys you a stack of blueberry pancakes and we go sing way too loud to songs we don’t know the words to? i’ll even let you eat the pancakes in the car.” she laughed gently as rafe leaned over the table, hands folded together and eyebrows in the air to further his suggestion.
she leaned over the table to meet him halfway and pressed her lips to his softly, hearing him hum out in satisfaction. she started to pull away but was stopped when a hand wrapped around the back of her head and held her in place.
rafe finally let them separate after another minute and smiled widely at her before waving over a waiter and asking for those pancakes.
and they did sing along to songs way too loud in his car. she took bites of her pancakes every so often, feeding bites to rafe in between her own. she would laugh when he sang with his mouth full, doing just about anything he could to make sure that any tears slipping out of her eyes were from laughing too hard.
he let her roll the windows down, hanging her head and arms out of the side until they turned around corners lined by cliffs. he’d laugh and put a hand on the waistband of her shorts, tugging her gently back inside of the car to assure she didn’t hit anything while hanging halfway out of his car.
she’d lean over the center console, kissing his cheek and whispering things into his ear ever so often. she’d lean her head on his shoulder and sing softly to songs that hit a little deeper, pouring her heart into words that she felt like she had ghost written.
there was a moment where her back pressed against the door, her seat belt stripped off despite rafe’s protests. her legs stretched out and feet planted in his lap. he had on hand on her ankle, gripping it softly and rubbing his thumb over the soft skin.
he glanced at her, watching her smile wildly at him. she took a mental snapshot of the moment, rafe cameron smiling at her like she hung the moon. it seemed so intimate and almost domestic, the way they stole glances and shared affirmations. if there was a moment in her life that she would pause everything else and live in it forever, it was this moment right here.
y/n’s face and stomach hurt by the end of the night, but she couldn’t think of a better way to spend her time. it still shocked her every once in a while that rafe cameron brought such a bright smile to her face, but she was starting to look forward to those smiles and the car rides that caused them.
it was late, but neither of them had intentions of going home anytime soon. there was nothing for them there, and both of them swore that they would’ve stayed in that car for the rest of their lives if it was an acceptable way of living.
“i really like you, y/n. and it kind of freaks me out, but i can’t help it.” rafe glanced over to her periodically, keeping most of his attention on the dark roads ahead of him.
“i really like you too.” she said softly, looking over at the boy that was now smiling widely. “despite you being a kook.” she scrunched her nose up and watched rafe laugh gently.
“a pogue and a kook falling for each other. who would’ve thought?” y/n scoffed at the question, thinking of more than one instance where that’s been the case.
“you mean a who would’ve thought rafe cameron would fall for a pogue?” rafe laughed again, which brought an inevitable smile to the girl’s face.
“i’d fall for you in ten different lifetimes, even if you were a pogue in every single one of them.” her smile grew wider, and she let out a sigh.
“i’d kiss the shit out of you if you weren’t driving right now.” rafe quickly pulled off to the side of the road at that, making y/n laugh as he pulled her into his lap.
“well, would you look at that.” rafes words made her lightly roll her eyes, a bright smile spreading across her lips. she clicked her tongue softly but gripped either side of his face and sighed happily as she drank in the sight of him, baseball hat sitting backwards on his head while a bright smile graced his lips.
“just kiss me, cameron.” and that’s exactly what he did.

look at you, strawberry blond
destiel, 1.8k. pining, fluff, growing up together, etc! minor character/parental death, vague mention of John’s A+ Parenting. based on the mitski song  (this is a repost because the first one got deleted)
I love everybody because I love you
Castiel first learns what love is when he’s eight years old and Gabriel, sixteen, is grumbling about driving an hour out of his way to find his girlfriend the rare chocolates she likes for Valentine’s day.
“Why?” he asks his older brother, and Gabriel sighs, melodramatic as always.
“That’s love, little bro. Remembering the little things and then putting in the time to make it happen.”
Cas thinks about when he told Dean his parents don’t let him eat candy. He thinks about how Dean has given him half his Kit Kat bar every day for the last year.
He thinks about the time he scraped his knee falling off the jungle gym and Dean spent the rest of recess picking dandelions to make him feel better. Yellow is his favorite color.
“Oh.”
“You’ll understand when you’re older, Cassie. Love is about sacrifice, and commitment--” he goes on, but by the time Michael cuts him off, yelling from his office that you’ve only been dating for two months, Gabriel, stop preaching to Castiel, Cas has already sprinted up the stairs to his bedroom.
A broken piggy bank, $1.50 in pocket change, and several pleas to Gabriel later, and Castiel tucks a king-sized Kit Kat into Dean’s valentine box.
 --------------------------------------
When you stood up, walked away, barefoot
It’s eight years later, one summer in high school, when Castiel realizes that there’s a difference between loving and being in love, and that he is, in fact, in love with his best friend.
He realizes this as he watches Dean walk away, sandals discarded and unnecessary in the soft grass, back to the picnic tables to get them both more fruit punch. It’s the annual junior class picnic, the official welcome to being upperclassmen, and the August sun casts a warm glow over Dean’s freckles, and Castiel knows.
Two seconds later, he watches Dean nearly get hit by an errant frisbee and completely forget his punch mission in lieu of playfully tackling its thrower, Benny Lafitte. He watches Lisa Braden, giggly and glowing and perfect as always, yelp as she’s almost caught in the crossfire, and Dean winks at her as he releases Benny.
He swallows thickly and turns his attention back to the patch of grass they’d been laying in, flattened where Dean had been just a few moments before. He wishes he hadn’t come to this particular realization.
And the grass where you lay left a bed in your shape I looked over it and I ached
--------------------------------------
I love everybody because I love you I don't need the city, and I don't need proof
Castiel goes to college in Chicago and pretends like the two-hour drive between them doesn’t mean anything. And it doesn’t, until Dean’s father gets a job back in Kansas halfway through his freshman year. Dean goes with him even though he’s an adult because the alternative is letting Sam deal with John alone, so Castiel spends most of that summer in Lawrence, dodging both his friends in the big city and his family back in Pontiac. He tells them all that he’s studying Kansas’ role in the Civil War, assisting in research back at the University, but he and Dean spend two months going on road trips with Sam.
His sophomore year John dies and Castiel flies back for the weekend, explaining his sudden departure as a family emergency and getting an extension on two papers. Dean holds his hand at the funeral but won’t look him in the eyes for two hours after, even as he refuses to leave Castiel’s side.
The boys move in with Bobby but that summer Dean shows up in Chicago, explanations lined up about not worrying about Sam anymore and wanting to see what about the city made Cas keep coming back. Castiel gets an internship and pretends like that was the plan all along. He quietly cancels his plane tickets to South Dakota.
All I need, darling, is a life in your shape I picture it, soft, and I ache
--------------------------------------
Reach out the car window, trying to hold the wind You tell me you love her; I give you a grin
Dean stays in Chicago. He moves into Castiel’s empty room when his original roommate moves out, he finds work at an auto shop, and he starts taking mechanic classes at a community college. Castiel isn’t sure why—he doesn’t want to ask. Afraid to look the gift horse in the mouth and risk having his happiness bitten off.
Then Dean starts talking about a girl. Then Castiel meets the girl, Cassie Robinson, and it all makes sense.
He pretends it doesn’t sting every time Dean brings her up, that the way his face lights up doesn’t burn, that he doesn’t feel physically ill the first time he meets her.
By the time Dean tells him he’s in love, gushing about Cassie in a way eerily reminiscent of Gabriel twelve years earlier, it’s turned into a dull ache that Castiel has mostly contained in the back of his chest. They’re on their way to Cassie’s apartment, the first stop on their way to a cabin spring break of their junior year, and the ache is suddenly threatening to break through his ribcage.
But the sun is warm on his cheek, and the radio is playing a soft summer soundtrack, so Castiel allows Dean’s happiness to wash over him long enough to forget who—or, more importantly, who isn’t—causing it. He grins at his best friend before turning his gaze back out the passenger window of the Impala.
Oh all I ever wanted was a life in your shape So I follow the white lines, follow the white lines, Keep my eyes on the road as I ache
--------------------------------------
Look at you, strawberry blond
Dean and Cassie break up, and Dean drinks for a month, but Castiel getting into Stanford for grad school distracts him just long enough to go back to normal (a normal that does not involve thinking about how Dean nearly kissed him when they were both drunk the night he got his acceptance).
This new normal involves staring graduation in the face, and California beyond that, and moving out of his Chicago apartment somewhere in this middle, which also involves coming to terms with moving away from Dean.
Until Sam gets his own acceptance to Stanford a few months later. Then Dean starts sending him links to two-bedroom apartments, and using “we” when talking about the move, and looks just as confused as Castiel when he asks about it.
“Well, yeah. I mean, with you gone, and now Sam—You thought you were going by yourself?”
And even though Castiel vaguely thinks this is a bad idea, and living with his best friend who he’s been in love with for his entire memory had been hard enough for the two years they’d been doing it, he can’t say no. Because every time he gets up the nerve to say something Dean calls him over and shoves his laptop into Castiel’s face, talking about hiking trails and flower fields and front lawns and dogs, and that quells any doubt he had.
They move to Palo Alto, into a townhouse with a lawn and a communal garden. Dean adopts a golden retriever.
Fields rolling on, I love it when you call my name
--------------------------------------
Can you hear the bumblebees swarm? Watching your arm
Two months into Castiel’s first year of graduate school they have a picnic, taking advantage of the lingering warmth of the California fall. Sam is off in the field playing with Zeppelin, obviously having used the ‘come meet my brother’s dog’ excuse to invite the pretty blonde woman (Jess?) chasing the golden with him. Dean is rambling about Star Trek and Castiel is paying half attention, the majority of his focus on the reading in front of him because professors don’t consider picnics an extension-worthy excuse.
He’s just started to get invested when he hears a yelp and looks up to see Dean Winchester, his best friend, most trusted confidant and the possible love of his life, swatting a bumblebee. Cas gasps, reading forgotten, and lunges across the picnic blanket to grab Dean’s wrist. “Dean.” He chastises, and Dean gives him a look.
“It’s a bee, Cas.”
“It’s a bumblebee, which are essential—”
“To our ecosystem, yeah, but it’s pretty essential to me that it doesn’t sting me.”
“It won’t sting you if you don’t swat at it.”
“You didn’t see the look on it, man. It meant business.”
“Bees are attracted to sugar. You probably just smell good.”
Dean grins. “You calling me sweet, Cas?”
And, well, no. He isn’t. He’s talking about the empty pie tin next to Dean. But the words make him realize just how close they are, how far he’d moved into Dean’s space in his efforts to stop his hand, how the force of the movement had pushed Dean almost back onto his elbows.
He opens his mouth to respond the way he usually does to Dean’s cavalier flirting, but the words don’t leave his mouth—which is, somehow, he swears, closer to Dean’s than it was a second ago. Just as Castiel is preparing to push back, clear his throat, and add this moment onto a growing list of almost-but-not-quite moments stretching back years, Dean sucks in a breath and closes the gap.
Castiel reacts before his brain can fully comprehend what’s going on, bypassing any shock entirely and kissing Dean back immediately. He lets go of his wrist, instead bringing his hand to the side of Dean’s face, stroking his cheekbone with his thumb. Dean pushes himself back up and wraps an arm around Castiel’s waist, pulling him essentially into his lap, and then they’re kissing, and Dean smells like summer and tastes like apple pie, and Castiel suddenly understands more than ever why bees are always buzzing around him.
It feels like a lifetime until it’s over, until they’re just staring at each other and out of breath, both scared to say anything and break the magic they’d accidentally created. The silence is only broken by a shout from across the grass, followed shortly by a tennis ball that nearly misses them, followed by 65 pounds of golden retriever that does not miss them and nearly topples Castiel in his pursuit of the ball. And then Sam comes running after the dog, still shouting—apologies, this time—and then there’s Jess, laughing hysterically, and then Castiel has to scramble out of the way because Zeppelin has made a U-turn, interpreting the whole commotion as a game of keep-away.
Dean meets his eye above the chaos and grins, and the sunlight hits his dirty blonde hair, and it’s so breathtaking Castiel almost forgets to smile back.
I love it when you look my way.

Jaehyun pulls away and looks into your eyes. “Are you hungry?”
You shake your head. “Not really.”
He chuckles. “Me neither. Let’s get out of here.”
He takes your hand and leads you to his car. He then drives and parks in an empty parking lot. A soft song plays in the background as you begin to kiss again.
Jaehyun’s tongue traces over your bottom lip. You turn your head and run your hand down his chest, your delicate touch sending shivers up his spine.
Your hand travels all the way down to his jeans and rubs his bulge. He fidgets and moans into your mouth.
Jaehyun growls out:
“Needy.” *kiss*
“Girl.” *kiss*
You laugh, but continue to press onto the growing tent.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you.” You whisper.
“It was kinda hot.” Jaehyun kisses your neck and pulls your leg over his lap. “I was thinking of how I would punish you for it..how I’d shut you up.”
You climb over the center console and onto his lap, his arm around your waist as he helps you.
He pushes the seat back and puts his hands behind his head.
“No teasing this time, baby.”
You nod, quickly unbuttoning your shirt. The cold night air hits your chest but the warmth in the car quickly comforts it.
Jaehyun then pulls your bra down, your breasts popping out from it and bouncing gently.
He leans forward to palm both nipples, watching you as you bite your lips and moan quietly. The stars shining on your skin through the sunroof.
He licks one of your nipples and listens to you cry out. Your head falling back as he flattens his tongue against your heated skin once more.
He looks up at you through his lashes then sucks your nipple.
“Jaehyun..that feels so good.”
He hums and sucks as you move back and forth on his lap. His bulge presses against your underwear as your skirt slides up your thighs.
He zips his jeans down. You watch his length spring out, the tip red and dripping with pre cum. You could orgasm from the sight alone.
You leave your skirt on but shimmy out of your panties. He then pulls out a condom and glides it down onto himself.
“Come here..” Jaehyun calls to you then lays back down on the seat. You lower yourself slowly, thankful for your own essence that allows him to enter you easily.
“Fuck.” You mutter once he fills you up completely. You feel every ridge of every vein run against your silky walls. For some reason, he feels bigger than usual.
You move up and down and swivel your hips. Jaehyun’s dick glides into you easily now, your wet entrance happily greeting it each time.
Jaehyun watches you through low eyes. He doesn’t smile, but he doesn’t frown. It’s a blank face, it’s almost like he’s not really there with you.
The truth is, Jaehyun was thinking about how close he was to being caught. You went to his workplace and discovered the truth. He was able to cover it up quickly but he made you feel bad in the process. A part of him truly regretted lying to you. But he knew one day he would find a way to explain it all to you and he knew you would forgive him because you love him.
Your whimpers grow louder as you approach your climax, but Jaehyun is nowhere near his. You bounce up and down faster, hissing as you take in sharp breaths and closing your eyes as you clench.
He stares at you again and thinks of how precious you are to him. Your face is beautiful even as your mouth falls open into loud moans and your eyes shut tightly. Your jawline and neck sparkle not only with sweat, but the reflection of the stars above you.
Your womanhood feels amazing around him as it always does. He rubs your clit to push you further along.
“You can do it, baby, cum for me.” His deep voice echos.
The car is filled with lewd sounds of skin on skin and your cries.
“J-Jaehyun..” your name falls from his lips. He watches your perky nipples. He palms one with his other hand then pumps your breast.
You cum hard not long after. Curse words leave your lips as you fall apart on him. He continues to push into you, even as you clench uncontrollably around him.
He grips your waist and slams you down onto him, your tight pussy providing sensational vibrations to his cock.
“Ahh..that’s it, sweetheart.” Jaehyun grunts
“Baby!” Your eyes fly open. You are so sensitive and on the brink of passing out from your intense orgasm but he doesn’t stop to let you recover.
He pushes into you hard from below, you breathe heavily and look up at the sky as tears fall from your eyes.
“This pussy is mine right?” Jaehyun growls.
“Y-yes…yes.” Your head is empty as he continues to fuck into your body from below.
He then cums and stares at your body above him, so beautiful, so perfect.
You lay on top of him for a moment. He holds you against him in his arms.
“I’m sorry..” He whispers then kisses your ear.
“I’m sorry, too.” You whisper back.
A few minutes later, you get into the passenger seat and let Jaehyun drive you home.
However, he has to make a stop at the gas station to fill up.
When he goes inside to pay the cashier, you grab his phone.
You tried to think of the security code. What could it have been? You tried his birthday, but it didn’t work, you tried several other basic combinations like ‘1,2,3,4’ or ‘9,8,7,6’ they didn’t work.
Jaehyun was still inside, but you only had one more try before his phone would lock  itself for a few minutes.
You thought for a minute then tried one final code..your birthday. And it worked.
You quickly went to your contact name on his phone and selected “share my location.” This way, if you ever needed to get to him, you would know exactly where he is.
The idea sounded crazy to you, but a part of you still felt unsure about everything. You wanted to bring up the text messages you saw, but you knew that would make him upset again. He’d ask why you invaded his privacy. So instead, you decide to have his location turned on for you to see…just in case.
Jaehyun gets back in the car and you’ve already placed his phone back in the cup holder.
“Let’s get out of here..” he gives you a wide smile and winks.
————
[A Few Days Later at 12:33 PM]
You to Jaehyun: hey baby, just got out of class, what are you up to
Jaehyun to You: getting ready for work at 1, I’ll be free at 3:30, I’ll come over to your place
You to Jaehyun: sounds good, love u
Jaehyun to You: I love you, too
You immediately place your phone back into the pocket of your shorts and head for the bus loop at your university. These buses were free and available for students, staff, and professors to use. Since you didn’t have a car, you found it very convenient, for there was always a route that could bring you to or at least close enough to your desired destination.
You had to see where Jaehyun was when he went to work. Something didn’t feel right and your mind hadn’t been at ease for days. You wanted to trust Jaehyun, but you couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation for his weird schedule and the way he would act whenever you asked him about his job. It was like he didn’t want to talk about it. He’d change the subject.
You got on a bus that would take you in the direction of where he worked. You went to his contact name in your phone once you sat down, and at 1PM, you saw that he was no longer moving based on his blinking dot, he was stable in a location after traveling there. When you looked closer, you realized that the location he was at was not his work address. It was close, but not exactly where his work was.
After about 20 minutes, you pulled the string to let the driver know that you wanted to get off at the next stop.
You stepped off and proceeded on the rest of your journey on foot, walking closer and closer to where the blinking dot was.
When you were just a few feet away from him, but very far from the building he claimed to work in, you noticed that you were in an apartment complex.
Your heart started to beat fast. What could he possibly be doing here?
You walked closer and closer, eventually to the very apartment building he was in. You looked at your blinking dot and at his blinking dot and saw that they were nearly on top of each other.
What would you do now? You couldn’t just knock on the door of any random apartment, people would think you’re crazy or sketchy.
You bit your lips and closed your eyes. This couldn’t be happening. You swallowed hard then did what you had to do next.
You opened Safari and went to OnlyCams, then looked up the username of the person that your best friend showed you after Valentine’s Day. Your hands started to shake, you were so nervous you felt as though you would throw up right then.
You knew your suspicions would be wrong, for Jaehyun could never do this to you. No, he loved you too much, he wouldn’t lie to you, you just had to trust him.
Live.
They’re live. Shit.
You take a deep breath and quickly make a fake account by signing up for a free trial and registering your email. It was a stretch but you had to know, you’ve gotten so close.
Once you’re finally in the chat room under the video playing, you see a couple on a couch. The male’s head isn’t shown, but the naked woman has a leash around her neck that is being pulled by him as he fucks her from behind. Her eyes are teary and her cheeks are stained with mascara as she moans. The man yanks the leash and pushes even harder, her ass hitting against his pelvis.
You narrow in on the man and the room, looking for anything that would indicate that it’s him.
He grunts, but you can’t tell if they’re his grunts.
That’s when you see a phone on the table by the couch. It’s off to the side, barely in the camera’s view point.
You take a deep breath and decide to call Jaehyun.
You put the call on speaker as it rings then switch back over to the live stream. Sure enough, the phone on the table lights up as a call comes in. You shudder. You can’t see the contact name, but it could just be a coincidence right?
The screen goes black just as the phone stops ringing. You hang up and wait for a moment.
While you wait, the couple change positions with the other woman over his lap as they sit on the couch. He chokes her while she bounced up and down on him.
You still can’t see his face, but his hands look familiar. The length of his fingers look familiar.
You swallow hard then dial him up again. The phone on the table rings.
You let out a shaky breath as tears come to your eyes. It was him, it had to have been. You end the call then exit the stream.
It becomes difficult to hold onto your phone as the reality sets in, the reality of what you had been hoping was not true. Jaehyun was cheating on you. All those times that he said he was going to work when he was really going to another woman.
You’re a fool. You thought to yourself. How could you not know that he would cheat on you?
You sat down at the end of the staircase outside of the apartments and placed your head on your arms. You cried into them hard, finding it difficult to even breathe as your world crumbled before you.
Everyone told you from the beginning that Jaehyun was a player, that he didn’t stay with one girl for too long, that his appetite could never be satisfied. But you ignored them, you trusted him and gave in to him. You thought he loved you, you thought you were different.
He made you feel like you were good enough, that he loved you more than anything in this world. He played his game so well.
“I’m so fucking gullible.” You cursed to yourself and sobbed harder. You wanted to walk home but you didn’t have any strength in your legs, you could only sit and rest your head into your arms. Even when the dark sky was about to burst with what would be the worst thunderstorm, you stayed there. You didn’t care if you got wet, you didn’t care about anything really.
You sat there for what felt like an eternity, wishing that your mom were there to comfort you, wishing that you could run until you couldn’t run anymore, with the pain of breathing and walking becoming so unbearable that it would finally overtake this pain you felt right now.
It felt like you had been stabbed in the heart and Jaehyun was watching you bleed to death.
How could he do this to you? That’s all you keep thinking.
And when it was 3:30 PM, you heard a door click open. You stood up and turned around.
Jaehyun was at the top of the staircase, locking the door behind him.
His movement froze when he turned and saw you at the bottom of it.
“Y/n?” His breathy voice echoed in the hall.
Your eyes were red and swollen, he knew you had been there crying for quite some time and he felt his heart break.
“Y/n..please..I can explain.” He hurries down the stairs but you shake your head and burst into tears as you run away from him.
He grabs your wrist and pulls you to him. “Please, it’s not what it looks like.”
“Fuck you, Jaehyun! I know it’s you, I watched it on my fucking phone! Let go!”
“No! Baby, I-“ Jaehyun’s grip doesn’t loosen as he begs you to stop.
Without thinking, you slap him with your free hand. He lets go and your mouth falls open but you don’t say anything, you turn around and run.
Jaehyun touches his red cheek then runs after you as the rain begins to pour down on both of you. “Y/n!! I’m sorry! But I can explain, just stop. Let’s talk about this!”
But you continue running. Your vision is blurry, your tears mixing with the rain as you run faster and faster. You keep going, just as long as you get away from him.
Jaehyun eventually slows down and stops following you. “Fuck.” He curses and throws his backpack to the ground.
He bends over and pants, how could he have messed up so bad? He let lust and greed take over, and now, he lost you.
———
[One Week Later]
It’s been a few days since you discovered Jaehyun’s secret. Your best friend helped you by making you laugh or helping you cook dinner. She’d take you to your favorite ice cream shop or bar and get you drunk. But unfortunately, you always ended up crying after the fun.
Everything reminded you of him, you couldn’t get his dimply smile or beautiful laugh out of your head.
You deleted his number from your phone, or rather, your best friend deleted it, but he kept texting you. You didn’t let her know this but you recognized the number.
Jaehyun to You: Please, talk to me, I messed up but I still love you
You’d receive messages like this at least twice a day. The first day after you caught him, he texted you once an hour. It was difficult but you were able to turn your phone off and cry in bed alone. He didn’t dare try to see you as you both knew your best friend would be crazy enough to cut him if he tried.
You would’ve loved some comfort and wisdom from your mom, but you knew she too loved Jaehyun. She invited him over many times and enjoyed his company. He made her laugh and smile with his charm. She would’ve been devastated if she knew what he had done.
But for now, you only had your best friend and her boyfriend.
“I feel like a complete idiot.” You said one night at dinner.
“He’s a fucking douchebag. He didn’t deserve you, but don’t worry you’ll find someone better.” Jackson, your best friend’s boyfriend tried to help you feel better. It had been a week and you guys ate out at a Korean barbecue place.
You nodded and looked at the sizzling beef.
The night went on and the three of you talked about other things so you wouldn’t think about him, but in the quiet moments you saw how cute they looked together. You remembered how cute you and Jaehyun looked together, walking hand in hand as you explored the city.
That night, when you were alone in your bed, you decided to delete the photos of him and any couple photos you had from your Instagram. You didn’t look at the pictures for long, because it would be difficult to let go, but you had to try. It was the first step you needed to take towards moving on.
But one photo caught your attention. It was the one of him in the vinyl store. You snapped a quick Polaroid of him flipping through vinyls to buy. He was adorable in his white T-shirt under a brown button down. His ears turned a peachy pink when you caught him off guard. His hair was wavy and made him look innocently cute.
He laughed and looked away shyly, like a girl that had just been asked out.
Just remembering his face sent butterflies through your stomach. You smiled to yourself as you heard him singing like you did that day.
He picked up a Styx vinyl and showed it to you.
“Look at this one..” He said while running his hand over the cover.
“Styx? Who’s that?” Your lips pursed.
“You don’t know them?”
“Never heard of them.” You shrugged.
“Oh come on, don’t you know ‘Babe?’’ His eyes widened.
“NOPE, but if you sing it to me, maybe I will.” You gave him a wink and stepped closer to him while looking into his eyes.
He chuckles and looks away. “Well, I guess it’s time to embarrass you.”
“Wait..” Your eyes grow, but Jaehyun quickly places the record down and grabs you into his arms, holding you tightly against his chest.
He pecks your lips as you press your hands against his chest.
“Jaehyun!” You giggle as he lays even more kisses along your jaw and neck. People in the store turn to you and start to laugh.
“The song goes…
‘'Cause you know it’s you babe
Whenever I get weary
And I’ve had enough
Feel like giving up
You know it’s you babe’.”
He sings obnoxiously loud, but it’s beautiful. You loved hearing him sing. His voice was soothing and had a warm tone about it. You’d never heard anything like it before. The raspiness of it gave you chills every time.
Tears fall onto your pillow while you remember the good times. You go to YouTube and search for the song so that you can listen to it, knowing that it would make you cry harder. But you just wanted to hear it..just one more time.
You cried yourself to sleep again, forgetting that you were supposed to delete the photo.
—————
Jaehyun stares at the text box. He sees the blue messages he’s sent and waits for you to text him back even though he knows you won’t.
He places his phone down on the bar and rubs his tired eyes. He hadn’t slept much, he stayed up and cried sometimes over you. He hated himself for what he did and he wished he could make everything right. He hoped that one day you would give him a second chance.
But unfortunately, he just wanted to stop thinking about you for now. He missed your touch, your smile, your scent, your hair, your giggle. He missed everything. He couldn’t work with Reina anymore because he was so heartbroken to lose you. Why didn’t he just tell you honestly from the very beginning when he started this job? Why couldn’t he tell you when you had so many chances to before?
He downed another shot and swallowed the bitter liquid hard. Getting drunk would help him forget how he was feeling, if just for a few hours. He thought he wouldn’t see you if his vision was blurry.
He is too drunk to walk or drive, so he calls the one woman that would take care of him.
“Reina..I need you.” He mumbles over the phone.
Reina is ecstatic as she drives Jaehyun home. She’s more than happy about the breakup and believes that he will finally be hers.
“Take me to your apartment, I can’t let anyone on campus see me like this.” Jaehyun leans against the passenger window. He starts to sober up and hates himself once again for calling on Reina for help.
When they get back to her apartment, Reina pours herself a glass of wine and sits on the couch next to Jaehyun.
He bends over and screams, but she’s unaffected.
“Damn it!” He lets out.
She swirls her wine while looking at the glass in her pretty hand.
“This is all your fault!” Jaehyun yells.
“Are you talking to yourself, Jaehyun?” She takes a long sip then places the glass down.
“No! I’m talking to you. You ruined my relationship. I was so happy with her..then you came along and offered me this fucking job.” Jaehyun sat up straight and looked at the floor while crossing his arms. His hair is disheveled and his face is red.
She laughs. “This is my fault? You’re the one that got yourself into this. You should’ve stopped when you had the chance. You should’ve told her the truth, Jaehyun.”
“Fuck you..I should’ve said no, you always wanted me more than I wanted you and now look at me. I’m alone, I’ve lost the one woman I love.”
Reina scoffs. “No, fuck you for coming to me when you have no one else!” She says and storms off into her room. “You’re an asshole and I should’ve never gotten involved with you! She hates you and I hate you too, Jaehyun!”
Jaehyun stands up and walks over to her room. He holds her shoulder and brings her to the wall. “What did you say?”
“I said I hate you.” Reina pouts and stares at his lips. She started to tear up at his words when she realized that she wouldn’t get him now that you two had broken up. He was still in love with you, she didn’t stand a chance.
A low chuckle escapes his chest and it makes Reina weak to see his smirk. He’s drunk and sweaty but she wants him so badly. His dark eyes narrow in on hers, making her feel small.
“That’s not very nice of you. I recall you wanting to be my girl, even stalking me in Bali.”
“Y-yes, I did that, but I was a fool to think you’d want me. Even now, I’m a fool..”
He grabs her chin in between his thumb and index finger. “No, you’re not. You just have to show me why I should be yours then, kitten.”
Jaehyun was too good at getting Reina where he wanted her. She had a weakness for him and he knew it. He knew what to say to make her fall for him every time.
She can’t resist him. She rubs her hand over his crotch before pulling the zipper down.
He takes her hand and flips her around so his chest is on her back and she lays flat against the wall. He flips her skirt up and teases her entrances with his tip.
“What do you want me to do?” Jaehyun whispers into her ear from behind.
“Fuck me, Jaehyun.”
He enters her swiftly, sliding into her easily as she moans.
They have sex without cameras, but it isn’t the first time they’ve gotten drunk and done something they’d both come to regret the next day.
She rides him as he lays on the bed and imagines that it’s you above him. He can hear your whimpers and see your dazzling skin. He can feel your dainty touch, it’s like you’re right there with him.
His vision is blurry, he tricks himself into believing that Reina is really you.
He flips her over and hugs her while still grinding into her body below him. “Baby, I love you, I love you so much.” He says to Reina, forgetting that she’s not you.
Reina, on the other hand, believes that he’s talking to her. She cums unexpectedly and smiles to herself thinking she finally has him, he’s going to be her boyfriend because he just said he loves her.
—————
[The Next Day]
Jaehyun wakes up to a buzz from his phone.
When he forces his sleepy eyes open he sees Reina in his arms. “Shit.” He says quietly and then carefully shimmies out of the bed. He struggles to remember what happened the night before, but based on his naked body, he knows he and Reina had sex and he deeply regrets it.
He looks at his phone, his eyes widening when he sees your name pop up.
You to Jaehyun: we need to talk.
You couldn’t stay away from him anymore, you missed him so much your heart hurt. You texted him because despite what everyone had told you, you had seen a different Jaehyun during these months. Something about him had to be genuine, and you wanted to stop crying at night. And your best friend knew you needed closure. She wanted to feel better so she supported your decision to talk with him.
Jaehyun quickly responds.
Jaehyun to You: yes, when and where
You hesitate to answer. Is this what you really wanted? Do you really think he could change?
You to Jaehyun: meet me downtown at 12 PM
Jaehyun puts his clothes on and calls for an Uber to take him back to the bar that his car is at.
As he’s about to leave, Reina surfaces with her blanket wrapped around her.
“Where are you going?” She rubs her eyes.
Jaehyun turns and replies with a wide smile, “She texted me back! I’m going to make things right!”
Reina frowns. “But..”
“I’ll text you later and let you know how things go!” He heads out the door. It slams shut behind him. Reina stands and fights tears, once again feeling neglected, disappointed and hurt. She had gotten her hopes up..again.
————
[Downtown, 12 PM]
You stepped on your toes as you anxiously waited for Jaehyun. Maybe he changed his mind, what if he didn’t show?
What if he didn’t care—
You see him, his hair a bit messy but he walks quickly towards you.
You gulp and feel your chest cave in at the sight of him, your love.
“Hey..” You say quietly.
“Y/n..” The way your name leaves his lips in a breathy, low tone makes your legs weak.
He stops before you, you look up at him and breathe deeply. You can do this, stay strong. Your best friend’s words echo in your head. You had to remain firm and not fall for him in the first twenty seconds like a fool.
“Can we walk?” He asks.
“Sure.” You shrug.
The two of you walk side by side in silence for a few minutes.
The day is bright and sunny, the wind feels good on your skin.
“Y/n…a few months ago, I met this girl named Reina. She was in the top 10% of creators on OnlyCams and she offered me a job. She said I could work with her and we’d split the profits evenly. It’s an easy job. I just have to…have sex with her on camera and that’s it. We were only supposed to meet once a week to create content, but then the subscribers wanted more. We knew we could make money so we met more often. I let it get out of hand.”
He takes a deep breath. “I-I shouldn’t have gotten involved with her..I should’ve just said no and gotten a regular job. I should’ve thought of you first, I thought it was okay because it was just physical not emotional, but it’s not okay and I’ve hurt you.”
You stop and turn to him. “No, it’s not okay, Jaehyun. I fucking hate you for this.”
Jaehyun swallows hard and looks away from you. “I’m tired of walking, can we get on the Ferris wheel?”
The city had a large Ferris wheel that rested at the center of downtown. It was an attraction that many people went on to complete their vacations.
“Only if you pay.” You roll your eyes, Jaehyun holds back a laugh.
The two of you get in your own pod and sit down. It’s the perfect day to enjoy this ride. It’s quiet and not too many people walk around, you can really enjoy nature and the view of the city from above. But unfortunately, your heart was still broken and you were still sad.
“You cheated on me several times. I gave you so many chances to be honest with me, but you turned it on me every single time! You made me feel like I was crazy not to trust you when things just weren’t adding up. And here I am, being a fool for you.”
“I know, and I’m so sorry for being an ass all those times. I know I could never make up for it, I want you to know that I love you and I’ll be okay with whatever you choose to do now that it’s over. But I hope you’ll choose me, I hope you’ll give me a second chance.”
“You know me, you know I would’ve been okay with it had you told me..It’s just a job, Jaehyun. Why didn’t you tell me?” You turn to him with tears in your eyes again.
“Because I thought you’d break up with me for even thinking about doing this with someone else. I’m sorry I didn’t believe in you.”
“Well, now I’ve broken up with you for lying AND cheating. You made me feel like I wasn’t enough, and Valentine’s Day was the icing on the cake. You spent it with someone else. Do you know how hard that was for me? Oh and in Bali, you lost it when I simply danced with someone that I thought was you yet you were fucking someone else daily? That’s twisted and crazy…” You scoffed. “And you expect me to trust you again?”
Jaehyun gives you pleading eyes. “I know…I’m a piece of shit, I can’t take it back, but I can be better, I promise. Losing you has taught me so much.”
“What else is a lie, Jaehyun? Are you really into painting or was that something you used on all your girls?”
“I swear to you I never lied about anything else, I love you, every moment we had was sincere. You weren’t a game to me. Please..believe me.”
He places his hand on top of yours. You glance down at it and pull your hand away.
You shake your head. “I don’t even want to be here with you right now. How long is this ride?”
“Um…thirty minutes..”
“THIRTY MINUTES? Are you serious, Jaehyun?!!”
He nods and scoots closer to you. “Don’t worry, it’ll go by fast as long as we talk. Tell me what’s on your mind.”
“Jaehyun…” You exhale and let a few tears fall. He quickly wiped them from your face as he stared at you. “Do you love her?”
His brows furrow. “No, of course not. She’s just my coworker and I plan on stopping if you come back to me, I’ll never do those things on camera again.”
“Does she love you?” You look outside to avoid his gaze.
“I-I don’t know and I don’t care, because you’re all that matters to me.” Jaehyun just wants to hear you say yes, he just wants to see you smile again.
You turn to him. “Jaehyun..I don’t know..I need time.”
“Okay, we have about twenty minutes left on this..” He sits back and looks out through the wide window.
The city is nice, peaceful. The buildings come together like legos but less pretty.
You start to think of all your moments together. Would you stay with him to experience more special moments together just to be hurt in the end?
You stare outside and think of everything as time passes by. You sit there in silence but it isn’t awkward, it’s comfortable, actually. You’re allowed to think.
When there’s only about ten minutes left and the ride starts to descend, Jaehyun gets on his knees and kneels below you.
“I love you..I always will..and I’ll give you however much time you need, even if that means waiting until the day I take my last breath.” A tear runs down his cheek as he looks up at you.
“Jae..” You exhale. “Get up, don’t be so dramatic..”
But he doesn’t move. You rub your hand along the side of his beautiful face and bite your lip.
“Fine. I’ll give you another chance, but if you hurt meI never want to see you again.”
Jaehyun jumps up onto the bench beside you and takes your face in his hands.
He kisses you for a long time, placing his lips on your chin. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I’m so sorry, I’ll never hurt you again.”
You nod.
The two of you went over to your place and made love, you told each other how much you missed being together.
You felt like you could give Jaehyun a chance, it was a mistake and you truly hoped he learned.
————
[A Few Days Later]
Jaehyun receives a few missed calls from Reina. He hasn’t seen her since that night and he doesn’t want to.
“You should be upfront with her, don’t keep her waiting.” You told him as the two of you ate lunch together.
Jaehyun swallows a piece of his sandwich and nods. “You’re right, it’s gonna be difficult to face her, but I have to.”
That night, Jaehyun takes you with him to Reina. You wait in the car as he goes to her apartment. She gives him a big hug after she opens the door, but Jaehyun pulls away quickly.
“Reina..listen..I’m done…I’m sorry but I can’t do this anymore. I can’t be Valentine Boy.”
Reina’s mouth falls open.
“Y/n and I are together now so..it’s best if I stop this now..”
“Jaehyun..think about the money.” Reina pleads with knitted brows.
“It’s not worth it, I don’t want to lose her. I’m sure you can find someone else to take my spot or you can do it solo.” Jaehyun shrugs his shoulders. “I’m sorry, I have to go.”
Reina’s eyes start to water. “But you said you loved me..”
Jaehyun sighs and turns his head. “Reina, please, I was drunk and thinking of her, you know that. You know that I’m always thinking about her.”
He turns to leave before Reina can say anything else.
He joins you in the car and lets out a loud exhale.
“How did it go?” You ask him.
“Well..She’s not too happy..But it doesn’t matter..She’ll be fine.”
That’s what Jaehyun thought, but he was wrong. Reina was furious and had another plan. She wasn’t going to let him go that easily. She was going to make him regret ever leaving her.
She threw her plate with her dinner on it to the floor and watched the glass scatter.
————
[One Week Later]
You and Jaehyun relax at the park. You hold hands while walking through it and share a triple scoop ice cream cone.
“You’re hogging all the chocolate..” he says before leaning closer to you and attempting to take the cone out of your hand.
“Ah! ah! if you want it, you have to get it from my lips.” You wink and rub some of the chocolate ice cream onto your lips.
“That works for me.” He lays a smooch onto them.
You giggle from the ticklish feeling of his tongue on your bottom lip.
You both sit down on a bench and watch dogs play at a dog park.
“This is nice.” He says before wrapping his arm over your shoulders and pulling you closer to him. His warmth almost outbeats the sun itself and he smells like fresh apples.
“It is..I love dogs..I wish I could have one here..”
“Do you miss Hazelnut?” Jaehyun asked.
You laughed out loudly and turned to him. “Her name is Peanut.”
“Oh shit, I’m sorry.” His eyes crinkled as he laughed at his mistake.
“But yeah I miss her. You know I don’t get to see her much because my dad took her away when he left my mom. I hope she’s doing well.” You missed your 12-year old poodle dog from home. You thought of how helpful she’d be when you were stressed. You always rubbed her coat when you were at your desk, studying for a difficult exam in high school. She’d sit beside you and look up at you with wide eyes. It was as if she was silently telling you ‘you’ll be okay’.
Then, shortly after you entered your last year, your dad left your mom and decided to take her with him since your mom wouldn’t let him take you.
It was a weird split you thought, but it was what it was. Fortunately, you were old enough to be mature about everything, but the pain of watching your parents split after so many seemingly happy years of unity still hurt you.
“I’m sure she’s doing well, babe.” Jaehyun rubs his hand along your arm.
———-
[A Few Days Later]
You get on the bus that takes you to campus so you can attend your first class of the day. You notice that a few glances shoot your way, while you sit on the bus and look out the window.
Is there something on your face, you wonder.
You pull your phone to look at yourself and surely, there’s nothing on your face. Maybe you were just imagining things.
You finally get to campus and that’s when you notice that more people stare at you. Some look away but some give you a look of disgust that you’re confused by.
Your brows furrow. What was going on?
You look down at your phone when you feel it vibrate in your hand. It’s a text from your best friend.
Bella to You: don’t go to class
She then calls you before you can reply.
“Bella? What’s going-“
“Where are you?!” She yells over the phone.
“I just got off the bus. What’s going on?”
And that’s when you see it. Posters of you posted all over on trees and taped to buildings. Some were the small, some were big and hard to ignore.
Your mouth fell open. They were pictures of you that Jaehyun took. Adult pictures and nudes that you had sent him. The ones you sent him on Valentine’s Day and the ones from Bali. Some were of you hollowing your cheeks around Jaehyun while some were taken from behind you, wrists in handcuffs.
They’re obscene pictures and now everyone has seen them.
Only Jaehyun had access to these photos, how could he do this to you, how could he do something so mean? Your hands start to shake, you run off to the nearest bathroom to avoid any more gazes.
Once in the stall, you unlock your phone and go to call Jaehyun, but you see that you’ve got a new email from one of your professors and…the Dean.
Miss y/l/n,
We have noticed a series of adult rated photos have been placed across campus. These photos were also sent to our emails from your email address. Please see us at 2:30 PM today so we may discuss this. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated. It is not a joke and now housekeeping will have to remove every poster that has vandalized our beautiful campus.
You hold your head as you cry. This couldn’t be happening. They thought you had done this.
You had to call them and let them know that you were being harassed.
Meanwhile, Jaehyun was searching for the perfect puppy for you at the animal shelter.
All of the puppies were adorable, but none of them seemed to be the right fit for you..that was until he got to the end of the line and met the cutest Senior dog.
Her name was Dora and she was a small brown and white corgi with big ears.
“This is Dora, she’s 9 years old, but she’s a great companion, and loves to cuddle while you read to her.” The shelter worker told him.
Jaehyun chuckled at her name. “Dora…the explorer?”
“Yeah, she’s a senior dog so not many people are interested in caring for her. They’re afraid of how much work it’ll be..we can take a look at the other dogs if you’d like or we can-“
“I’ll take her.” Jaehyun smiles.
Dora gave him the widest smile and started to shake the little nub on her bum.
That’s when he knew that she was the one. He knew that Dora would make you so happy. So he adopted her and took her home.
He took her to the pet store and bought her food, treats, toys, two bowls and a bed.
It felt like the two of you were going to raise a child together and Jaehyun couldn’t stop smiling to himself. He was so happy to be with you. Everything felt right.
He waits for you at his place, but as he relaxes into his couch with Dora falling asleep on his chest, he gets a text message with a random link.
Without thinking, he clicks the link and it opens to an anonymous post on the OnlyCams website.
His eyes widen when he sees what it is. It’s a folder with pictures and a video of you.
The one he took of you.
“What the-“ He immediately closes the site and opens his iCloud. He didn’t upload the pictures so who did?
When he sees his log in history, he sees an address that he recognizes and confirms his suspicions.
He dials up Reina and sits up straight, placing Dora down to his side.
“Hello, Valentine Boy.”
“Reina! What did you do?!”
She chuckles over the line. “I did what I had to..”
Before he can get another word out, he feels his phone vibrate as he receives a call.
It’s you.
He hangs up on Reina and answers your call. “Y/n. It wasn’t me, I-“
“You were the only one that had those pictures Jaehyun! Do you think this is some kind of sick joke? Did I do something to you?!” You sob and yell over the phone.
“No, baby, believe me, I didn’t do this! It was Reina..I.”
“So this is why you took that video and those pictures of me, so you could embarrass me in front of the entire school. Well, good job, Jaehyun. Now I have to meet with the fucking Dean! I never want to see you again!” You hang up and slam your phone onto the sink.
“Damn it..” Jaehyun exhales and plops down onto the couch, unsure of what to do next.

Part 4 Preview
Reina places the final touches on your lipstick and looks into your eyes. “You look beautiful, y/n. I know it’s your first time, and I know you’re nervous, but it will be okay, just follow my lead.”
She smiles defiantly and tightens the pink collar around your neck.

Running Gallavich Playlist
Curated by a middle-aged person who came of age in the 90s, for Showtime and fictional Gallavich. :)
It’s been a while! Two more, links forthcoming:
Bruises, by Chairlift - “bruises on my knees for you” - yeah you do boys
Pretty Great, Fickle Friends - Mickey singing this, for any fic where he’s met Ian and it’s been unforgettable fireworks but also a drunk/fleeting blur - “…the only thing that I refuse to forget is when you said I was the fucking best”
Wildest Dreams, Taylor Swift - Memories following after Ian and Mickey split up at the US/Mexico border in S7. With bonus gif set I’ve dreamed off for this! by @ianngallagher
Father Figure, George Michael - Dom-top Daddy Ian! (Ok, maybe this is more Fan Fic Ian than Showtime Ian)
No Hard Feelings, The Avett Brothers - featured in the fic By and By by @nowherenj (who is definitely over me mentioning this! lol) and my new anthem to get me through my next 40y.
Like Real People Do, Hozier - I mean, you don’t need this explanation right? @gallavichy writes one of my MVP Ian’s (I think all of ours.)
King of Wishful Thinking, Go West - this is actually a pretty terrible song, but it’s fitting for S6 Ian
Lyin’ Eyes, The Eagles - this one is perfect for all the fics where Ian is married to some rich remote “geriatric viagroid” but gets involved with Mickey
Got til its Gone, Janet Jackson - S8 Ian, or should I say Gay Jesus and his sublimated reasons for blowing up a van? (Obsessed with Janet, see this playlist just for her!)
Touch Me in the Morning, Diana Ross - S7 of course, fitting after the van for Mickey, wondering if he’ll see Ian again, and for both of them after they separate at the border.
Supernova, Liz Phair - Gallavich heat through and through: “your kisses are as wicked as an F16 and you fuck like a volcano and you’re everything to me”
Flagpole Sitta, Harvey Danger - Ian obviously
Possession, Sarah McLachlan - S3 Ian, 3.7 - 3.11, on repeat and weeping into his pillow
On the Radio, Donna Summer - I heard this in the car this morning and got caught up in an imaginary scene of S6-7 Mickey working in the prison laundry, where the civilian employee who supervises the incarcerated men loves 70s R&B and disco and plays this one a lot. Despite himself, Mickey finds himself absorbing the lyrics, “things are not the same since we broke up last June...[but] tune right in you may find the love you lost” and starts plotting his reunion with Ian, whatever it takes. :) (I made a playlist based on this headcanon!)
Tangled Up in Blue, originally a Bob Dylan song, but I’m partial to this live cover by the Indigo Girls. I read that Dylan said this song took ten years to playout and two to write. When you really dig into the lyrics you can see how much it covers their relationship.
A Case of You - this version by Joni Mitchell, evocative of the scenario where Mickey is Frank to Ian’s Monica, in fact the lyrics seem written for S5 where Debbie goes to Mickey and tells him he can’t drink Ian away:
I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can But be prepared to bleed"
We Found Love, Rhianna - club Ian needs to move his body to this, preferably no longer a dancer and just there for pleasure with Mickey
So Much to Say, Dave Matthews Band - “I say the hell is the closet I’m stuck inside“ - Mickey in S3-S4 - “open up my head and let me out” - at The Alibi, obviously
TBC as I think of more songs. What would you add?

Luke Alvez x Reader: Too Much Distance

Tumblr media
Luke’s contact photo pops up on your phone, the ringtone interrupts the song you were playing, but as you slide to answer, you realize the sound of his voice is way better than whatever poppy tune had been on.
“Hey babe,” you smile widely, trying to balance your phone between your ear and shoulder as you drive home from work.  The fact that you would be seeing Luke tonight was what had kept you smiling throughout the day.  Not even the heavy traffic could interfere with your good mood.
When Luke joined the Bureau, you knew things would be difficult, but you both were dedicated to making things work.  However, the last few months had been harder than you could have ever anticipated.  It seemed like he was always away on a case, and the distance definitely took a toll on your relationship.  But that didn’t matter right now, because Luke would be home tonight.
“Hey there,” Luke says back.  You can hear chatter in the background and briefly wondered where he was.
“Are you almost home?” you ask, hopeful.
There’s a brief pause, then Luke sighs, “That’s actually what I was calling about—“
“Oh no,” you interrupt, “was the jet delayed?”
“No…” he clears his throat, “I’m actually still in LA.”
The moment he says the words, your coffee canister slips from your hands, spilling over your lap and car.  The heat immediately seeps through your skirt.  You’re lucky you don’t crash as you try to wipe it up with the napkins stuffed in your cup holder.
“Shit,” you gasp, your thighs burning from the hot beverage.  “Shit, shit, shit—“
You flip your blinker on, tears and anger both starting to fill you up, and pull over on the side of the road.  You wipe up the remainder of the coffee, ignoring Luke asking if everything was okay on the other end of the line.
Once your legs no longer felt like they were on fire, you pick your phone back up, and already on the verge of tears resume your conversation.
“Are you serious?” you ask.
“We got the wrong guy— the murders keep happening,“ you can tell he’s frustrated by the news too.  You can tell he’s trying to dodge a fight, which was really all you’d been doing lately.  Seeing each other today was what you had both been holding onto, or at least that’s what you thought.
You sigh, and without raising your voice say,  “I just… I mean we’ve had these dinner plans for so long— I mean my parents have been talking about this for weeks.“
“I know, I know, I know—“ he says frantically, “I’m so sorry, believe me, I’d much rather be there than here… we’re swamped.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose, and close your eyes, listening to the sound of traffic rushing by your parked vehicle.
“Okay,” you sigh, feeling so defeated and drained all of a sudden.  “Okay, well, we’ll miss you.”
“I know, tell everyone I say I’m sorry for not being there.”
“Yeah, alright,” you agree.
“So we’ll just talk later then?” he asks, the noise in the background is getting louder.
“Okay,” you say before hanging up.  You can’t help but notice that the “I love you’s” were skipped.
You drove the rest of the way home with your fingers tightly clenched around the steering wheel.  Your knuckles were white by the time you pulled into the driveway.  You dragged your bag and coffee-stained self into the house to change and get ready for dinner with your family.
You tried convincing yourself that the night would be fun, regardless of the fact that Luke  had bailed.  But the moment you sat around the table at the restaurant and counted that you were in fact the eleventh wheel of the family, you knew things were doomed.  Plus you couldn’t shake the achy feeling inside your chest that made you fear for your relationship with Luke.  You had been holding onto this weekend together with everything you had.  It kept you grounded, and reminded you that this distance between you and Luke wouldn’t last forever.  Now, you had nothing to hold on to.
“Where’s Luke?” your mother immediately asked.  Of course.
Without even thinking, you lie, “His flight got delayed.  Bad weather—“  you’re not sure why you didn’t spill the truth.  Denial, maybe.  Embarrassment that his job would always come before you.
“Bad weather?” your brother asks, “In LA?”
“Yeah—“ you stammer, your face turning red.  “Tornados, I guess.”
Your brother goes to argue that statement, but his girlfriend elbows him, indicating for him to shut his mouth.  You give her a soft smile in appreciation.
You stay quiet for the majority of the meal, and you don’t feel much like eating.
All-in-all, you’re relieved when everyone is ready to head home.
“Hey,” your brother’s girlfriend catches up to you before you can head to your car,
“Hi,” you smile.
“Is everything okay?  I just— I wanted to make sure, cause you do know LA doesn’t have tornados, right?”
You nod and let out a shaky laugh.  “Yeah, I know.  And Luke’s flight never got delayed,” you take a deep breath, “I guess that just sounded better than the fact that he didn’t even get on his flight.  Got caught up at work,” you explain.
She pierces her lips empathetically.  “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I just—“ you feel the tears starting to fill your eyes and you wipe them away, embarrassed.  “I don’t know if we’re gonna make it—“
“Oh no,” she says empathetically.
“The distance is just, really, really hard.  Way harder than I ever thought—“ even you can tell how choked up your voice sounds, “And I just don’t see it ending anytime soon.  He loves his job, and I’d never ask him to give that up.  But I can’t compete with it.  I just don’t know if I can do it—”
“Maybe you should talk to him about this,” she suggests, as she soothingly rubs your shoulder. “Tell him how much it’s bothering you.  Be honest.”
You nod. “Yeah you’re probably right,” you wipe your runny nose on your sleeve.
“Let us know if you need anything, okay?”
You nod, thanking her and hugging her goodbye.  She was right.  You did need to talk to Luke.  But that was a conversation you wished you could just keep on the back burner, ignoring until everything ignited.   You dreaded it the whole way home.
The phone rang three times before Luke answered.
“How was dinner?” he asks.
“It was fine—“ you lie, not really wanting to fake small talk, “everyone missed you.”
“Yeah, I wish I could’ve been there.”
You clear your throat as you anxiously drum your fingers on the counter.
“Listen, Luke We need to talk—“
“Babe,” he protests, “I already apologized for not being there— I wanted to, but I can’t control what happens in this case.  It’s my job, I couldn’t say no.”
You didn’t want to fight.  You were too tired, too drained, too sad to fight.  “I know…” you say as non confrontational as possible, “I know it’s your job, I understand that, but I— I need you here, Luke.  And maybe that’s selfish of me, or whatever, but it’s true.  I can’t do this distance thing, I thought I could, but I can’t.  It’s killing me.”
“I mean, what do you want me to do?” Luke asks, “Quit?  Do you want me to quit my job?”
You squeeze your eyes shut in anticipation of what was about to happen.
“No, I don’t want that,” you say, your voice becoming heavy with tears,  “And I hate that this is through the phone, but I don’t think we should do this anymore.  I don’t think I can do this anymore.”
There’s a long silence, but it sounds so loud.
You begin wondering if you should provide more of an explanation, but then Luke speaks.
“Baby—“ he pleads, his voice full of desperation, “Please, I know you’re mad about tonight but I can fix this—“
“I’m not mad,” you tell him, pushing the emotion in your voice down and trying to muscle through.  “But I come second to your job, Luke.  And that’s not your fault.  But it’s not my fault either.  And I need more than that.”
He’s stammering incoherently on the other end, and you imagine what his face looks like right now.  Was he crying?  Were his eyebrows all scrunched up?
He tries protesting again, but your mind is made up.
“Goodbye,” you whisper, hitting the end button before he could convince you otherwise.  As soon as the line went dead, you broke out into uncontrollable sobs.  The weight on your shoulders that you thought would be lifted only felt heavier as you let yourself fall to the floor.
Your chest ached, and you clutched your arm around yourself, trying to hold everything together.
It hurt like fucking hell.
You fell asleep with Netflix still playing on the TV, the screen lighting up the otherwise dark living room.  It was late when you woke to the sound of your door opening.
Your first instinct was to scream, but you caught a glimpse of the familiar, dark haired man standing in front of you before that could happen.
“Luke?” you say groggily, rubbing your tired eyes.  “What are you doing?”  You feel like you might still be dreaming.
“I know you probably don’t want me here,” he says, he’s out of breath, panting, even.  “But just hear me out—” when you don’t protest, he continues.
“I love my job,” he states.  “Being part of the Bureau was my dream, and then that dream came true.  I love the BAU.  I love being a profiler.  I love being able to save lives—“
You let your eyes wander to the floor, wondering where this all was going.
“But none of that compares to how much I love you,” he says, his shoulders finally deflating.  “And I’ll quit in a heartbeat if that’s what it takes.”
It had been so long since Luke had told you he loved you, that you feared it might no longer be true.  But as soon as he says the words with such honesty and passion, your face scrunches up and the tears start to fall, because you immediately believe him.  For a moment, you forget that you’d practically broken up with him over the phone.
All you care about is that he’s here.  Luke is here, standing in front of you in real life for the first time in so long.  You rush over to him, crashing into his body as you wrap your arms around his middle and rest your head on his chest.  He smells so familiar, and when he curls his own arms around you, you immediately feel safe and secure and whole again.
You’re not sure how long you stay like that.  But you’re afraid that the minute you let go, things will fall apart again.
Eventually you speak, “I love you so much, but I could never ask you to quit your job,” you sigh.  “You’d be so unhappy and I’d hate myself for making you unhappy.”
Luke nods, he’s grateful that you understood, but he desperately needed to clarify things.  “You don’t come second to my job, baby.  Not even close, okay?”
You nod into his chest, but he senses that you don’t quite believe him.  He pulls you away and holds you out in front of him, making sure you understand.
“If I quit the BAU, yeah- I’d miss it.  Eventually though, I’d move on and find something else.  But if I lost you--” Luke shakes his head, like the thought alone is too unbearable.  “I don’t know if I’d ever be able to be happy again.  You come first, okay?  Always.”
You give Luke the best attempt at a smile that you can come up with, enough to show him that you appreciate his gesture.  It was nice knowing how much Luke cared for you.
Luke hugs you again, squeezing like he’s afraid you might disappear if he lets go.  You squeeze back, hugging him back as tightly as you could.
When you finally pull away, you look up at him and ask, “How did your case end?”
Luke shrugs, “Not sure- the team’s still working it in LA. They said they’d keep me updated.”
You narrow your eyes at him, confused.  “What?  You left before it was solved?”
Luke nods, his voice nonchalant, like it was no big deal.  “Yeah, well,” he sighs.   “Someone more important came up.”
And in that moment, on top of admiration and love and endearment, you felt hopeful.  Hopeful for the first time in a long time, because even though things between you and Luke were far from perfect, you loved him and he loved you and that was worth fighting for.

No Way to Say [Part Two] Path [Osamu Dazai or Nakahara Chuuya]
Tumblr media
The stage illuminates as you stroll up towards the microphone; the private crowd grows quiet as the live band plays their instruments in a romantic way that warms your heart. On cue, you begin to sing. This performance means a lot to you, but more importantly, it means a lot to Mori.
In the crowd are a black-market kingpin and his lackeys. To celebrate his birthday, the faction – their name is no concern to you – hired you to perform. And as an idol, your manager graciously accepted. Some grown men love to watch teens dance around on stage and sing; it’s disgusting, but the boss of the unnamed faction is paying you a lot of money, so you don’t mind.
Swaying your hips, you hold the microphone close and sing into it. There is no one in the crowd that you recognize, but you know the Port Mafia has your back.
It has taken you two years of hard work to reach this point, and in the aftermath of the Dragon’s Head Conflict, it is up to you to clean up the remnants of the various organizations that escaped during the 88 days of bloodshed that plagued Yokohama. You are pleased that after tonight you no longer have to be a part of the assault group anymore. For weeks Mori has been hinting at a promotion, perhaps even a position as an Executive. You are so relieved.
As the song ends and the music dies down to a low hum, you clear your sore throat. The crowd shows their appreciation; you grin and soak up the applause.
Your ability activates, and you lean the microphone close to your lips. “You want to kill yourselves for me, don’t you?”
The room goes quiet, but a sudden gunshot rings out, then another as the private group begins to pick themselves off; some of them have to be creative, but you don’t stay long to see. In the chaos of the situation, you slip from the stage and out a door leading to the back of the private bar where a small unit of armed men and women are waiting. They rush into the bar, but you ignore them. Ryuurou is somewhere close; you are sure.
You see a black car near the curb, and a sigh of exhaustion leaves you. It’s early in the night, but you are both hungry and exhausted. Perhaps the driver will take you to Chinatown for lunch. Opening the door, you climb in and widen your eyes as Chuuya greets you.
“Chuuya-sensei?! What are you doing here?” You ask.
He grins. “I thought we could celebrate.”
Celebrate? What is there to celebrate? Did he mean the mission? You hum and close the door.
“I suppose if you have time, we can grab lunch,” you suggest.
Chuuya nods. “Where do you want to go?”
“Driver, take us to Chinatown,” you order.
The driver begins to drive away from the club, and you hear Chuuya snort.
“Of all the places to choose from, you want to go to Chinatown. And in that, get up,” he mentions as he gives you a look over.
Your face heats up in embarrassment. There was no time to change; your uniform from the bar was all you had.
“I have a craving for steamed buns and Sanma-men,” you retort with a laugh. “And you are one to talk. Look at what you are wearing.”
Chuuya grunts and narrows his brows.
“Is there something wrong with what I’m wearing?” He asks.
He’s a bit insecure about his looks; you have no idea why.
“You look good to me,” you admit.
He hums. “I do?”
You nod and stare out the window; your face warms up as you notice the grin Chuuya gives you. On instinct, you touch the choker around your neck in remembrance. It was an entry gift from Chuuya on the day you joined; Dazai gave you one too, as he and Chuuya looked over you, but the tie wouldn’t suit your current attire, so you left it along with your uniform with Kouyou – your manager.
For the remainder of the ride, you sit in silence until the driver takes the car to Chinatown and parks. You and Chuuya exit the vehicle and walk down the busy street until he spots a restaurant that sells steamed buns. He leads you inside, and you sit across from him at a table; a frosted divider is at your back, obstructing your view of the other patrons. Before long, a waitress comes and takes your orders, then gives you some privacy.
You hum in delight. “I’ve been craving steamed buns all morning. Thank you, sensei.”
Chuuya snorts. “I see that. And don’t thank me; you’re paying your bill.”
“But I love when you treat me,” you whine in protest.
He grunts and turns his gorgeous blue eyes away. “Yeah, well, you eat more than I can afford.”
You know that is a lie.
Chuuya looks at you and grins. “I heard Mori is considering making you an Executive. Then you won’t have to mooch off me.”
The waitress returns with your drink, and you hum as you take a drink. You already know. Kouyou mentioned it to you. “I don’t think I deserve it, though.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit,” Chuuya snaps.
You widen your eyes, waiting for an explanation.
“I swear you are too modest; this path doesn’t suit you,” he mentions.
You agree; killing people doesn’t suit you. At least as an Executive, you wouldn’t have to dirty your hands as much.
Perhaps Mori will let me focus on my career as an idol for a while, you say to no one.
“And as an Executive, you might even get the chance to work with me,” Chuuya mentions.
Your face heats up. Does Chuuya want that?
You barely have time to spend with him or Dazai, for that matter. Not since their promotions.
“Do you want to see more of me, sensei?” You ask.
Chuuya opens his mouth, but instead of answering, he narrows his eyes and growls at something behind you.
“I’m sorry,” a familiar voice says. “Am I interrupting?”
You look over your shoulder, seeing Dazai standing beside the divider. Before you can ask a question, Chuuya slams his hands on the table and stands up.
“What in the hell are you doing here?” He asks.
Dazai ignores him and sits beside you. “You never change, do you? But why is the parasite here? Don’t tell me he’s stalking you, Miss Idol.”
Chuuya doesn’t think it’s funny, but you laugh.
“Sensei wanted to celebrate the completion of my mission with me, and there is no better place than Chinatown,” you answer back.
Dazai puckers a brow. “He still makes you call him sensei? I never knew how perverted Chuuya could be.”
He hums and places his hand on his chin. “In that case, you’d better call me Senpai then.”
“Now, who’s being a pervert,” Chuuya growls.
You laugh. Chuuya was in charge of training you when you first joined the Port Mafia. He taught you to fight – or to hold your own. And since he was your teacher, you started referring to him as so. Dazai, on the other hand, watched from afar, but you never grew tired of their company or their constant bickering.
“Do you want to join us, senpai?” You ask with a grin.
Dazai shakes his head. “I don’t have the time, unfortunately. And I came here to speak with you about something, Miss Idol.”
“So, you did know we were here,” Chuuya mentions.
You look at Dazai in concern. Is there something wrong?
His eyes are serious. “Escort me outside.”
You hum in confusion, but you agree nonetheless, standing from the table; Dazai does the same and leads you from the restaurant. You stand beside him outside and raise a brow as he stares out at the street in despair. You reach out and take his hand, but he jerks it away in alarm.
“Dazai?”
The said man grabs your hand and grins.
“Do you think you could use your skill on me?” he asks.
You pucker a brow. Dazai wants you to use your ability on him?
“I want to forget something,” Dazai mentions.
Your eyes widen. The desperate look on his face scares you.
“I-I can, but even if I did, you’d never really forget it. The memory would only come back in time. It might cause you more pain,” you explain.
Dazai sighs and squeezes your hand. “You truly are a good person. This job doesn’t suit you.”
Chuuya said the same.
“I have no other choice,” you utter.
You gasp in surprise as Dazai brings you into an embrace.
“Dazai I––”
He quietens you.
“He’s watching us,” Dazai mentions.
Who? Does he mean Chuuya?
“Listen to me,” he whispers. “I’m leaving the Port Mafia soon, and I want you to come with me.”
Is he serious? There is no reason for him to joke about something like this. But why?
“I don’t understand. We can’t leave,” you utter.
He shakes his head. “I know a way out. And Mori won’t touch you.”
Is this a test?
“You’re cruel,” you mention.
How can he do this to you? Did Mori put him up to it?
“My loyal––”
Dazai eases you back. His expression is so sincere.
“Is to whoever you want it to be,” he declares.
This is real. Dazai is telling the truth.
He leans in, and for a moment, you assume that he is going to kiss you, but Chuuya comes through the entrance and snatches Dazai by the collar, shaking him like a doll.
“What in the hell is wrong with you?” Chuuya snaps.
Dazai pushes his hands away. “I was saying goodnight. Are you jealous? Perhaps you want to kiss her too.”
Your face heats up. Dazai is messing with Chuuya; he has to be.
Chuuya ignores him and gives you a curious look.
“Did you want to kiss this waste of space?” he asks.
Your eyes widen. What kind of question is that?
“Can we maybe not do this?” you ask with a sigh.
Dazai hums and tosses a wave at you. “Give some thought about what I said.”
He walks away and leaves you alone with Chuuya again. The said man groans and pinches the bridge of his nose.
“I hate him,” he growls.
You stare out at the street in a daze. What are you to do? The answer should be easy; your salvation rests with Dazai. But you don’t want to leave Chuuya either.
It shouldn’t be this damn hard, you say to no one.
A hand on your shoulder tears you from your thoughts and you look at Chuuya in alarm.
He narrows his eyes. “Come on. Your steam buns are going to get cold.”
You nod and reach out to him, but he slips away as he goes back inside.
Who do I follow?
Your salvation or your livelihood? Dazai or Chuuya?

WITH YOUR DESCRIPTION THAT YOU SENT ME !! <3
i know i’ve already said this but sero would DEFINITELY hum this town  whenever you get anxious. or he’d sing it gently and let you cry as much as you need, he’d run his hands through your hair and hum slowly, rocking you back and forth
so if you ever just need that feeling of home, he immediately starts humming with his hands intertwined with yours and giving you the softest hug of all time
AND NO BC HE CAN MEASURE UP TO YOUR CHAOTIC ENERGY??? the man will go down with dancing with you, saying “you’re lovely,” and spins, “i love your eyes,” then kisses your nose, “you have such a beautiful soul, you know that, baby?” and his eyes just so so much love and passion
SPEAKING OF EYES, the main thing about your relationship is so connected over the years that with just a simple look, you know exactly what he’s thinking, and the other way around. whether it’s positive (like knowing when he wants a kith and wants to jam out to music with you) or a little less okay (like when either one of you feels alone), with just a single look, the next step is obvious. the next step is obvious because you two have built a healthy relationship of understanding ajajja!!
MOODBOARD !! <3

Car sex soudam car sex soudam car sex soudam car sex soudam
(You might have read this, but there’s a fic by Savorysavery on Ao3 about car sex soudam that seems relevant to your interests anon lol)
(trans Gundham)(unsafe sex again in this one)(nsfw)
Anyways, at some point Soda gets it in his head that his motion sickness is just a mental thing, like he thinks he gets sick because he associates being in a car with getting sick.
He figures if he can associate cars with something else he wont get sick anymore, so he tells Gundham they’re going to have a car date lol. Gundham is just like ‘why?’ but Soda says it’s a secret cus he’s actually kind of embarrassed about the whole thing lol
They basically have a picnic in their car. Soda packs some food and he sets up a playlist of all of their favorite sappy songs and he and Gundham climb into the back seat for their ‘date’.
It actually goes pretty well. It’s kind of nice to just be in an enclosed space with Gundham, their favorite music playing around them, no distractions from the rest of the world. Just them in their little bubble of love and slightly awkward seating.
After they’re done eating they’re just chatting and leaning against each other, Soda’s head on Gundham’s shoulder, Gundham’s head resting on top of his. Soda finally explains his plan and Gundham is just so in love with his stupid little boyfriend so instead of responding he just pulls him in for a kiss. It starts slow, but pretty soon Soda’s on his back with Gundham hovering over him and both of them are undressing. While Soda didn’t necessarily plan for this to happen, he definitely prepared for it lol.
He pushes Gundham back for a second so he can sit up and reach into the console between the front seats and pulls out some lube and condoms. Gundham laughs and pulls Soda back into a kiss before taking the lube and laying back on the seat. He starts prepping himself, using the lube to help get himself wet enough while he stretches himself a little, and he pushes Soda back with a foot so he’ll have a better view while he’s prepping.
Soda is just watching his boyfriend finger himself in the back of their car and thinking that even if this doesn’t cure his motion sickness, it was definitely a great plan.
Soda goes to open one of the condoms but Gundham stops him, not offering an explanation but just smiling a dirty smile up at him, before withdrawing his fingers and turning over so he’s on his hands and knees and telling Soda to fuck him.
Soda is just staring cus he’s still getting over the fact that Gundham wants him to fuck him raw (it’s not the first time, Gundham just usually prefers a condom) so Gundham pulls him closer by his hair to kiss him again, before pulling back. “I said, fuck me, my love”, and Soda’s just stutters and fumbles with the lube, and Gundham can’t help but laugh a little.
Once Soda’s lubed up, he starts pushing in slowly, savoring the way Gundham feels around him without a condom. Gundham lets him, but after a while he gets impatient and starts to roll his hips back against him. Soda decides he wants to be a tease though, so he just holds Gundham’s hips still, and continues to thrust into him slowly.
As much as Gundham loves it when Soda tries to take control, he’s really just in the mood to get fucked hard, so he ends up pushing back until Soda’s fully inside him, then pushing back even more to force Soda down far enough for him to ride him. Soda clues in and shifts to make it easier on Gundham. They eventually end up with Soda sitting normally in the back seat, and Gundham leaning forward between the front seats, using them to support himself.
Once they’re both more comfortable, Gundham wastes no time setting a punishing pace. Soda’s overwhelmed, he just leans his head back and moans while he lets Gundham use him for his own pleasure. Gundham is constantly shifting to try to get the right angle, he can’t sit up the way he usually does without hitting the car roof, but eventually he twists a little, bracing both his hands on the passenger seat and suddenly Soda is hitting him just right.
Gundham speeds up even more and starts moaning, and Soda is just flicking his eyes between Gundham’s face and where his dick is disappearing into him and he’s biting his lip to try to keep himself from cumming. Gundham’s not done with him yet, and he’s determined to last long enough for Gundham to cum. It’s the least he can do since Gundham’s doing all the work.
But watching his boyfriends twisted just so, bouncing up and own on his dick and moaning loudly, he knows it’s going to be a close call. He ends up grabbing Gundham’s hips and pulling them against his own, thrusting up a little while trying not to ruin the angle Gundham seemed to be enjoying so much, and that does it. Even when Gundham’s the one in control, he still likes to be manhandled a little, and the feeling of Soda pulling him back onto his cock is all he needs to cum. The feeling of Gundham cumming on his raw dick it too much for Soda and he pulls Gundham’s hip flush with his and releases deep inside him.
They’re both panting and sweaty and Soda just leans forward and starts kissing Gundham’s back. Eventually they maneuver themselves so that they’re both more or less laying down in the back seat, with Soda resting his head on Gundham’s chest and lazily tracing his scars. The song that played the first time they had sex is playing through the car’s radio and Soda is about to cry with how in love he is. They spend some time just cuddling and kissing in the back of the car, before cleaning themselves up and heading inside to take a nap together.
(Soda does not get over his motion sickness, but he does gain a new appreciation for cars lol)

codependent idiots
an ajf playlist for @winterscaptain
hello tali! and everyone else reading this.
music is something incredibly important to me, as a musician and as someone who hates existing in silence. I always need something in the background. so, what better way to celebrate 100 ajf fics than with a playlist? tali, I am so incredibly proud of you for 100 ajf fics and so honored to have been part of the journey. and to be your friend. seeing the hard work that goes into this universe and how much you love it is just incredible. I cannot wait for what comes next and to see you continue to create and grow this universe that I love so, so much. you are amazing and wonderful and I love you to bits and pieces darling.
so without further ado, here’s the playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0RpXkdEbsdMqX6l5daBdaL?si=bae62e4556674c84
These songs make me think of ajf or just fit the universe - it’s not about one specific moment or one specific relationship, it’s ajf as whole. So I’ve included a little explanation for each song, considering there isn’t a cohesive sound.
paper rings - taylor swift
this one is pretty self explanatory. it’s a song about loving someone so much you don’t care how, when, or why you marry them. considering meraki, I think we can all agree this fits.
I will follow you into the dark - death cab for cutie
this is a song that screams going to the end of the line for someone. and we’ve seen time and time again (and I’ve referenced it in many a commentary) that aaron & mom lean on each other for everything. they are so reliant on each other for everything and I feel like this song captures it.
be my baby - the ronettes
another classic love song. and just the right amount of sweetness for aaron & mom I think. their love, to me, is a deep and everlasting love that endures and as we’ve seen in the fic, is filled with sweet moments between each other. and there’s a lot in this song about knowing you love someone from the start.
can’t keep on loving you from a distance - elliot yamin
this fits into berry hill/mean it ajf I think. it’s the yearning guys. it’s the not being able to love someone from afar anymore and wanting to do something about it. yeah I threw in a little angst, but this is one of my favorite songs. it’s good and it fits. it’s a crossroads.
die a happy man - thomas rhett
pretty self explanatory, listen to the lyrics. it's all about needing just the love of the person you love the most in this world. that is aaron and mom to a t.
unforgettable - thomas rhett
okay an upbeat song! this one is not forgetting any detail from when you met the person you love. again, aaron and mom. also it’s one of my favorite thomas rhett songs. it’s about inevitability, knowing that you’ve found your person, and not forgetting a single thing about them.
this will be (an everlasting love) - natalie cole
aaron always gives me classic song vibes, he likes the oldies and what he was raised on. this song is...it is happiness personified. it is happiness and joy in a song and you cannot convince me it wasn’t played at the wedding.
make a life, not a living - brett kissel
okay so first off: brett kissel is an amazing canadian country artist whom I love dearly. this is his newest song and it was released just in time for this. this ENCAPSULATES ajf for me - this aaron that allows himself to live and love again, to have this happiness and joy. it’s all about making a life, and making a good one. this is ajf for me.
between you and me - brett kissel
and this one is for all the 18+/nsfw moments. listen to the song and it's pretty self-explanatory.
at last - etta james
it took them like 6 years (? I think) to get together and another 2.5 to get married. someone played this at the wedding and you cannot convince me otherwise. again, it goes to inevitability and how everyone was waiting for this to happen. we knew it was gonna happen, it was just a matter of when. so when it does happen, everyone’s screaming “AT LAST!”
kiss me - ed sheeran
okay this album came out in 2011, mean it happened in 2011...it fits. and this song screams mean it to me. that’s really all I have to say
give me love - ed sheeran
same reasoning as kiss me. I just couldn’t decide which one fit more. but they both work.
growin’ up - bruce springsteen
this song is less mom & aaron and more ajf in general. it’s rebellion and doing what you want - hello bau - and it’s just a great song about learning and growing up and doing things your way. also it’s me, there had to be springsteen on here somewhere
mary’s place - bruce springsteen
run with me on this one: you’re driving in the car with your family, people you love, and this song comes on. you can’t help but smile and sing along and it is happiness personified. this one is all about the vibes, not the lyrics or meaning of the song. this to me is a bit of a party starter and something that could play at every bau party. familiar faces, laughter, gathering people together….this is all about having a good time with people you love.
we take care of our own - bruce springsteen
last springsteen song I promise. this one is similar to above, it’s all about a family and being there for one another. looking out for your own, looking out for each other.
some day one day - queen
this is a great soft, sweet song talking about hope for mom & aaron. much like this is early in queen’s discography, it fits into the early years of ajf.
you’re my best friend - queen
self explanatory. they are codependent, they rely on each other so much, they are best friends and lovers. it fits so well. and this song will always put a smile on my face.
another one bites the dust - queen
another unsub bites the dust because the bau is great at their jobs. and, this screams hotchner’s dancing around the kitchen or the living room. they seem like the kind of family to dance around and film each other for….no ulterior motive whatsoever (/sarcasm)
my wish - rascal flatts
so this fits for the wedding vows BUT ALSO - during enough when aaron is thinking about how he’ll fit into reader’s life. he just wants them to have a good life, to find happiness. that is his wish for them.
danger zone - kenny loggins
we all know the hotchner’s love top gun. they absolutely, unabashedly love this song and blast it for a dance party.
landslide - fleetwood mac
maybe it’s because we sang this at my camp as a last night campfire song, but I can see this being a song sung to the littles to get them to settle down. the lyrics might not make total sense but it’s a bit of a vibe.
this is it - scotty mccreery
it’s a great love song and I love it. it gives me ajf vibes for many reasons and many moments in the series
not alone - mcfly
OH ITS TIME FOR MY MCFLY SOAPBOX. mcfly is a band that yes, I mostly know because of the close geography of the internet and early 2010s british youtubers. they are a big band in the uk and they were in an early 2000s movie called just my luck with chris pine and lindsay lohan. I love the movie, I love mcfly. seriously, they are one of my favorite bands ever. not alone is a great song and one I think can be the background for many ajf scenes. and yes this is about to start a few mcfly songs on the playlist
I wanna hold you - mcfly
it’s just about being close and wanting to hold the person you love. how many times during ajf do we see mom & aaron with a hand on each other and reaching for one another?
it’s all about you - mcfly
I tend to find this is the most well known mcfly song. it was written for one of the band members’ wife and it’s so good. and yes, again, it encapsulates the love aaron and mom have.
being alive - company
I kinda had the realization that this song screams aaron to me. that for so long he fought against his feelings and was almost content with being alone, with not having anyone. he sort of holds himself at arms length, like bobby does throughout company. and then at some point, there’s a switch. and he realizes that being alone is not the same as being alive and he wants to have someone to hold and someone to be alive with. and that’s what this song is about.
louder than words - tick, tick, boom
there are so many times where aaron and mom just look at each other. they use their actions, their body language, and their eyes to communicate and forgo words. they don’t need words. and it’s not just with one another. it’s with jack and the littles and the whole team. actions truly do speak louder than words in this universe.
always will - bright star
it’s a mean it & mistletoe song. “we’re supposed to be/together it’s true/I’ve had my doubts/but not about you.” these lyrics SCREAM ajf and this is one of my favorite songs from bright star - WHICH IS AN UNDERRATED MUSICAL.
dirty little secret - all american rejects
okay so it’s never a dirty secret, but this fits in during the mean it arc. they’re so secretive and sneaking around. we needed one unhinged song here okay???
the power of love - huey lewis & the news
this is a song that fits the relationship, but is also something that could play in the hotchner house and get everyone singing and jamming. or could be played at dinner at uncle dave’s house to get everyone up and dancing on the flagstones.
sharp dressed man - zz top
it’s aaron hotchner. also, this is a song I can see aaron making his kids listen to (yes my dad made me listen to this a lot growing up)
I want to hold your hand - the beatles
yes we need a beatles song on here and yes this is one that always makes me think of ajf. there’s always some way people are touching - linking pinkies, holding hands, a finger through a belt loop, hands on the top of someone’s chair - touch and contact are important here so yes this is the requisite beatles song.
the heart never lies - mcfly
one more mcfly song. just listen to the lyrics and you’ll know why it’s one of my favorites. for as long as these two fought their feelings and denied them, the heart never lies. and their eyes can give it away.

winter prompt fill 29, indruck, sfw?
29. i should’ve done my shopping a month ago but now i’m running around last minute and when i enter your store, i’m absolutely frazzled. help me.
(Pinecone is borrowed from harrisonator’s fic “Monster Mash”)
Working at Kepler Petco isn’t the worst thing, even during the holiday shopping hellscape months. It’s not like anyone is getting in fistfights over cases of Fancy Feast. Which is why, on the 22nd of December, Duck is unprepared for the sudden sound of hands on hitting the countertop.
“I need help.” The guy’s about his age, silver hair going patchy black near the top, pink and white striped sweater around his neck and a massive sweater hanging off his lanky frame. His red glasses barely conceal brown, anxious eyes.
“Sure, what’re lookin for?”
“Rat treats, the kind that won’t make them ill.”
“Can handle that, right this way.” Duck leaves the counter and leads the guy back to the small mammal section. As they go the man spins a ring on his index finger, flushing under the merciless heating vents.
“I’m sorry for the dramatic entrance. I have a mountain of things to do today and your store closes first.”
Duck glances at the AKC branded clock on the wall, which shows 12:30 p.m, “We close at five.”
“Yes, I know, but I really cannot overstate how behind I am on my Christmas shopping. Or, well, holiday is more accurate, since Joseph celebrates Hanukkah, which means I’m already late on that.” He sighs, runs a finger with chipped black nails through his hair.
“Big family?” Duck points to the row of snacks, grabs the man a basket from the end of the aisle when he starts piling them into his arms.
“Lots of friends. We’re having a party tomorrow and I completely forgot about it until today. I know it’s ridiculous to forget about a holiday where you can’t turn around without being slapped with a reminder of it, but my brain doesn’t always work in the way I’d like it to.”
“No judgement here. Once forgot my sisters birthday until the minute my mom asked if I could get some candles for the cake after school.”
“Oh dear.” The man smiles, the expression shifting from odd to shy when Duck meets his eyes, “thank you for your help.”
Five minutes later the guy heads towards the register, then stops, backtracking to the display of rats, mice, and hamsters. Duck joins him in case he has questions, and to steal another look at his singular features. They’re not handsome on the surface, but something about them draws his eye back over and over. He’s just in time to hear the man cooing to a pair of brown rats.
“...so lovely, aren’t you just charming? If I could I’d take you home but space is limited. Oh” he blushes when he sees Duck, “I’m, ah, ready to pay now.”
“One of your friends got rats?” He indicates the pile of treats the man is buying.
“Hmm? Oh, no, these are for Luna and Emperor, my rats. I wanted to get them presents too.”
Duck can’t decide if the fact the guy prioritized spoiling his pets on the day he had to buy a bunch of gifts is adorable or worrying.
“As I said, I came here because you close first. And I, ah, I like spoiling them. It’s nice to know exactly how to cheer another living thing up.”
“I get that. Pinecone, that’s my, uh, my cat, gets more treats a month than I do.”
“Someone ought to buy you a few, then.”  The man murmurs, handing over his debit card.
Duck, caught up in the mechanics of fighting with the card reader, doesn’t realize he’s being flirted with until the man is no more than a silver head merging into the throng outside.
He’s lowkey annoyed with himself the rest of the day; he’s been in the market for a cute guy, and while his mystery shopper may not be Ryan Gosling, but Duck wouldn’t mind getting his number.
Since he opened today, he gets off at three, decides to swing by Crate and Barrel in case the apron he thinks Barclay might like. There’s small hallways dotted through the mall, leading to exits or to backrooms.  As he passes one, he gets a glimpse of silver hair and a vibrant scarf. That’s the only good part of what he sees; the man from earlier is pressed close to the shiny wall, trying and failing to get his breathing order.
“Hey, man, you okay?”
He jolts, registers who’s speaking, and looks at the ground, “N-not really. I, part of the reason put this off so long is I can get incredibly overwhelmed in crowds sometimes, and yes I know that makes coming here three days before Christmas even worse an idea but I thought maybe I could handle it, but I’ve only managed to buy two of the gifts I need because I cannot focus with everything going on and, and I’m sorry, here I wanted to charming around you and now you’ve seen this and-”
“What would help?”
“I, I’d like to go somewhere quiet, but there’s nowhere, even the bathrooms are packed.”
“Do you, uh, want to come sit in my car for a bit? I can run the heater so we don’t freeze.”
“That’s really alright?” The question is so small and vulnerable he wants to tuck it into a shoebox to keep it safe.
“Yeah. C’mon, I’m parked on this end.”
It’s snowing on and off as they walk to his car, and as he gets it running and turns on the heat his passenger finally pulls his clenched hands from his pockets; one holds a fidget cube, the other a very small, plush moth.
“I tried so hard to prepare for every possible future.” Is what he gets as explanation. The man sets both items in his lap and shuts his eyes, breathing slowly in and out. Duck says nothing, opens his phone and plays two rounds of Plants vs. Zombies before he hears anything at all from beside him.
“Would you mind turning the radio on, at a low volume?”
“Any requests?” Duck hits the power button.
“No talk radio.”
“Can manage that.” He fiddles around and finds the alternative station. Even it has Christmas songs interspersed with the usual mix.
“Is your name really Duck?”
He wonders if the guy is omnipotent until he remembers his nametag.
“It’s a nickname.”
“I’m Indrid.” He opens his eyes, “thank you for letting me come here to calm down. I may actually manage to succeed in my quest now. It’s so hard, I actually enjoy being out around the lights, the feeling of so many people being happy or trying to do kind things for each other. But it’s easy to get overwhelmed, especially when I’m alone.”
“Would it help if you weren’t?”
“Possibly, but I couldn’t ask you to spend even more time in that mall given you work there.”
“Got some last minute shoppin to do myself. Besides, if you get stuck on a gift, I’m pretty damn good at comin up with ideas.”
“Thank you.” Indrid smiles, excited, and that settles it: Duck is asking for his number after this.
They brave the crowds and the holiday cheer blaring across the speakers once more. The first stop is a store selling housewares, including a pair of small succulents that Indrid deems worthy of giving a friend as he listens to Duck talk about his part time job at the National Forest, laughing when Duck mentions last weeks run-in with a pissed-off migratory bird.
The next few stores are no help, and they opt to take advantage of the lull between when people are done with school and when people are done with work to hit up the coffeeshop, Indrid ordering a white chocolate peppermint mocha and promptly getting whipped cream on his nose. Duck is tempted to kiss it off, settles for handing his new friend a napkin while he talks about his recent return to Kepler after traveling around the country in a Winnebago, selling his art at shows. As luck would have it, the store has a shelf devoted to artisan or local coffees, and they’re each able to find one for someone on their list.
Macy's proves more treacherous, and once five o’ clock hits even Duck is feeling cramped. Indrid is tensing, his replies getting short or far off, and just as Duck is about to offer to dip out again, chilly fingers link with his own.
“Is this alright?”
“Better than alright.” He grins and Indrid holds tighter, breathing in through his nose and out his mouth as Duck guides them into a less crowded corner. The do eventually find some high quality hiking socks that Indrid buys, only letting go of Duck in order to pay.
They reward themselves with dinner at Johnny Rocket, Duck hopping over to Indrid’s side of the booth to see pictures of Emperor and Luna, and show off the photos he has of Pinecone hiding under his ranger jacket.
“One more stop, thank goodness.” It’s going on seven and Duck has to say he agrees; he loves being around Indrid, but his feet are killing him and he’s had “Jingle Bells” stuck in his head for an hour.
Indrid’s last item is at Crate and Barrel, and Duck laughs when the other man goes straight to the aprons.
“You got good taste, I’m gettin’ one of these too. Barclay said he needed a new one.”
A fine-boned hand freezes mid-reach, “Did you say Barclay?”
“Yeah?”
“I am also buying this for a Barclay. Is your Barclay, by chance, dating someone named Joseph and hosting a party tomorrow?”
“Yep.”
They stare at each other, frozen long enough that another shopper passes between them. Then they double over in sync, Duck wheezing out a laugh while Indrid cackles.
“Holy shit, we’ve been shoppin for the same folks!”
“Barclay mentioned there’d be new people at the party but I never thought one of them would be such a catch.”
Duck gets his breathing in order, steps across the faux-hardwood and takes Indrid’s hand.
“Hey, Indrid? You wanna be my date to the party tomorrow?”
“Absolutely.”
“....wait, fuck, which one of us is gonna give him the apron?”
“You can, I have another idea for him. Consider it an early present from me.” Indrid tease.
“Sugar,” Duck slips his hands into Indrid’s back pockets, smiling up at him, “you might just be all the present I need.”
