"Oh, speaking of sisters, if I find these Stars I'm going to shake them down until they either bring Fubuki here or send me back home. Who knows how she's faring without me there to set an example?

...I thought I saw her the other day, but whoever it was sounded nothing like her. The likeness was uncanny though."

Not for a long time had Tatsumaki felt compelled to train her powers- her natural output and adeptness at wielding it had all but eliminated the need for such a thing. Of course, having a simple pittance of the power she’d once possessed made the impulse to do so that much more tempting. She knew by now it didn’t make a difference and that she’d get her powers back whenever the Stars saw fit to return it to her. Even so, keeping the long-empty newspaper dispenser aloft before her, simply suspended in the air through her concentration...it felt reassuring to her.

Well, that was far from how she preferred to be addressed. Her eyes snapped over to the source of the voice...some kind of two-legged, white porcupine? This place really did bring in all kinds of weirdos. Still, the pebble they were waving around drew her attention. He was an esper too, perhaps? Or some other kind of power... Regardless, she would respond, though not without a bit of snark.

"Same thing I've always done- I looked at this thing, focused on wanting to lift it, and it lifted." She waved the crumpled metal box as he had with the pebble. "I thought you already knew that, since you seem to be doing just fine with that rock."

"ughhh, are you kidding me!?" silver belts out their frustration, slamming a pebble to the ground with their psychokinesis. is a measly rock the extent of their powers now? they'd been trying to lift up cars and signposts for hours, to absolutely no avail! what did this place do?

in the middle of their brooding, they notice a woman across the spacious field lifting something with her mind, too! and it is definitely larger than a rock -- what's silver doing wrong?

"hey, you! green lady!" as eloquent as ever, it seems. telepathically waving the pebble around for emphasis with a glowing hand, they continue, "how're you doing that? what's your secret!?"

● “Oh? And there it is! Spewing preconceived notions about someone just because blood is a dietary need! Do you think it’s a choice for everyone, that I can just go “oh, maybe I’ll just quit it” like it’s a cigarette? I’m not afforded that luxury, dumbass!” She had a lot of trauma born from the treatment she received for being a bloodsucker, and this woman had trampled on that.

���What’s so different from what humans eat, huh? Breeding animals just to slaughter them? You think that’s better than extracting blood from a source? You just extract their meat and bones instead! Now that’s disgusting. You think you have a fucking moral high ground to stand on? You don’t!”

“Say, how much blood do you need to suck to get those ears of yours to work? ‘Cause clearly you’ve had less! I’ve only ever talked about the monsters I know from my world! I’ve been trapped in this shitty lab experiment long enough to know things might be different in other worlds, like I CLEARLY said! I have no preconceived notions about you based on whatever you are!” Aaaand she’s started to hover, levitating herself higher to look down at this woman, her tirade persisting.

“I’ve only ever judged you personally based on what I’ve seen- that you whine about stupid little things like stick candy not having the flavor you want and then act like someone who offers their own insight and an idea of what you could actually do about your problem is being a jerk, and that I’m being prejudiced when you were the first one to make a sweeping statement about my kind! Just my luck for actually trying to socialize with a stranger for once that I’d stumble on the most hypersensitive, entitled brat the Stars could’ve plucked from the multiverse!!”

“I don’t have to be an expert, smartass! I know damn well that there’s not any companies here to voice those complaints to, and that where I come from- where the company to complain to actually IS- any blood drinkers are disgusting, twisted monsters that end up smashed to dust or splattered against a wall! Even if things are different in your world, moaning about it won’t do anyone much good in this city, will it?!”

“I really don’t think there’s high enough market demand for Blood Pocky. Isn’t there some special marketplace nearby where you supernatural monster types can buy scary stuff like that?”

● “All these flavours of Pocky and there’s no blood flavour? I swear, no one ever thinks of the blood drinkers!”

Well, she was just going to ignore this kid initially, but...

“I don’t know. They could be mine if I wanted them to be.”

A finger raised from her cross-armed position, and two of the crispy stick treats had slid out from the box, twirling slowly through the air between the two.

“Get your own box of stick biscuits, these are mine.”

“Wanting to be seen as a queen without any claim to actual royalty is pretty ridiculous. Especially in a place like this, where none of us have any substantial power over the city as a whole.”

“Not like anyone out there has the power a real queen deserves to wield anyway.”

“Ah, yes. I would just love to cuddle with a constant reminder of there being a creature that would rip me apart at a moments notice if it were to ever actually be anywhere near me.”

Once again, Marie had to wonder to herself how in the world humans had survived for as long as they had. No matter how you sliced it, this just seemed like a terrible idea to her. But then again, she was well aware that she had her own personal grievances with bears right now. She considered herself lucky for having gotten out of that whole encounter unscathed, honestly.

“I don’t get the whole appeal of fluffiness in general, I guess. Well, except for L’il Judd, I suppose. I’d still love to touch his fuzzy little belly, just one time…” She couldn’t help but crack a grin at the thought of that. Sure, it was Callie who had been Team Cats, but L’il Judd in particular was just really cute! He was so tiny, yet so very fuzzy!

“Maybe it’s because of how small babies are. I don’t know, that part I at least sort of understand.” A pause. “Still don’t get why they want to make a death machine look small and cute, though.”

“Some people just have no real survival instinct, you know. That’s why there’s people who have to save morons like them. Not that sleeping next to a stuffed doll that just looks like a powerful meat-eating predator is in the same league as actually trying to interact with one up close. But those are out there too.”

Tatsumaki floated one of the bears to her hand, turning it over and around in her hand to get a proper look, distracting herself from thoughts of work back home. Dealing with dumb civilians was a lot more complicated than with dumb heroes- she could berate her colleagues to hell and back again, but she couldn’t exactly just yell at every panicking fool who made whatever emergency situation they were in worse for themselves. The PR upkeep was always a tricky task given her temperament.

“I’ve never been one for fluffy either. I think the want to make them cuter is just a want to have something with all that fluff not trying to kill them.” She shrugged. “Or it’s just perspective? Some of the freakos I’ve seen make even a normal bear mid-mauling seem adorable in comparison.”

“You’re all going to Hell and I have half a mind to send you there myself if this keeps up.”

“I think that’s just because of how people look at real-life bears.” She’d never met the...tentacle-haired elf woman? But she could understand not really being in-sync with consumer trends. She did have her own theory, of course. “Bears are really big and fluffy, so people think they’d be perfect for cuddling- only that they’d maul anyone who tried. So teddy bears are really popular since they’ve got the fluffy cuddliness of real bears but made cuter so people feel more safe.”

A quiet hum, as she pondered another possibility. “Or maybe they’re supposed to be more like bear cubs than full-grown ones. People think anything’s cuter as a baby- I don’t get it, really.”

“…what’s with all the plush bears?”

Marie was currently standing in the aisle of a random shop, looking through various cute and sparkly things, as she had been thinking of getting a gift for her cousin in the hopes of helping her feel more at home in this otherwise bizarre city. The sheer amount of teddy bears on the shelves, however, had caught her off guard. Seriously, did humans like bears that much?

“Why are they all so cute, too?”

“Back home I’m usually too busy to leave much time for negative feelings to have much time to stew. Plus I have nothing to really be sad about.”

“...Why don’t you just use one of those job search sites? It’ll get your resume right to the people who might actually be looking for someone like you and we won’t have to hear about it.”
