Do you have any tips for developing OCs? I want to fill out the template you did on your BG3 blog so bad but my Patho OC isn't very well-defined yet and as of now, I feel like it would take me 800 years to fill it out. Did it come easily to you or did you have to spend a long time thinking of your answers? How can I make sure I don't just end up describing myself?

Aside from the mini heart attack I had at the information that ended up being just a dream, I want to say DEWWWWW IT to your "tell me about your Patho OC" event. I feel awkward sending my Sim to you unsolicited (silly, I know) but at the same time I don't know if I'll ever be ready! I catch myself making the tiniest changes to her (and then reverting to the way she was before, lol). She's a plague doctor. *cough* assistant to a plague doctor. I actually found a beak mask to use <3

But seriously, my only advice is to be as cringe and authentic as you can. OCs are just dolls for you to play with, you can gift them a fragment of your soul to love your less than ideal sides through them, you can also just make them bc you wanna make a cool little guy.

Be as creative as you want, make them a mary sue, or edgy, or loveable by all or whatever you think is cool. Make something you actually like, a purée of self-indulgence.

It might be hard to fill out because you're unsure of if you're going to change your mind about a certain subject or side of them later, it's scary to put things in stone.

Good news! OCs are as fluid as water. You can simply go back and update it whenever you want. There is no consistency required. Much like real life, people aren't always consistent in their beliefs and valus.

Your OC will evolve with time with you. No matter what, you can always tweak them and make a million different versions.

"How do I make sure I don't just end up describing myself?"

So what if you do? you're the person you know most. Of course, you'll use yourself for reference when told to come up with a whole new person on the spot.

Your OC can still share a lot of traits with you without being a self-insert—if that's what you're aiming for. You can also use yourself as the opposite of a reference sheet? Since you know yourself well, you also know what you're not, and you can give them that.

You can also base them around a concept! Personification of an object. For me, Sol, was a Personification of the sun and the worst of the worst of bpd symptoms. I wanted a character that is horrible and can't control being a bad person, not only that but they do not want to change themselves, they don't want to put in all that effort just to meet the minimum standards that others take for granted. They like their bad traits.

Sol is also very red-dragon insp heavy. So shallow, greedy, self serving and possessive.

Don't be afraid to give your OCs bad traits, it humanises them more, if anything. But also try to come up with why, no one is evil for the sake of evil.

Or you can simply not. There are no rules. You are the judge, jury, and executioner! Who gives a shit what I or anyone else has to say about your OC? IT'S YOURS. I don't go into people's bedrooms, rummage through their drawers just to comment on their choice of socks

Start with something simple and watered down then build off of it. Three abstract ideas to define your character, their basic form, their essence.

For Sol, it's red dragon, sun and bpd. A major oversimplisation.

You can also do the same with already established fiction characters! Pick any character you like and try to condense them down to three abstract ideas–not personality traits but concepts.

Yulia, indifference of the universe, mathematics and circulation.

Artemy? Love, the past, faith.

Daniil? Spite, the future, science.

Clara? life and death, stasis, magic.

Think about the basics of the basic building blocks making your OC, what resides at the root of the tree? It doesn't have to be three, it can be as many as you want.

For patho, I don't have any defined named ones. I just jump from concept to concept and reinvent a new person each time.

Rn I'm thinking about an OC that's part of the inquisiton.

Okay so, we never see how Aglaya dies, correct? And it's a little suspicious that the army stopped the train immediately after her attempted escape with Artemy, as if someone tiped them off.

So I thought, what if I made an OC that was the person who did that, the one who killed Aglaya.

Now we need a motive, why?

They're also part of the inquisiton, but they're still in training if it makes sense? They haven't earned the inquisitor title, authority, or privileges yet. They need a way to prove themselves, a first case to show their abilities.

That's where the town and the plague come into place, if they solve it, it will definitely earn them respect and a title.

They need to keep Aglaya alive until the very end before they kill her themselves in order to take all the credits for curing the plague instead of having to share it with her.

Now we have a motive and a goal. What's their personality like.

Manipulative, clever and cunning with an innocent facade.

They want you to think they're your friends so they can use you. They want the other healers to confide in them so they may steal their research. Coming from the capital and looking very cute, it's so easy to underestimate them and buy into their enthusiastic kind facade.

They have no shame, they will lie cheat and constantly play the victim. Spin false tales to make themselves look better, pretend to help only to sabotage instead, like a fox with no good intentions.

Why are they like that?

Well, the inquisiton takes kids from when they're young and raises them. This character stood out bc of their lying ability, inventing trophies they pretend to win at school for their parents to praise them, inventing sad stories for the teachers at school in order to raise their grades. The inquisiton simply nurtured these traits.

I'm not sure if I want to make them a healer or a side character.

For now, I want them to be so used to lying all the time that they eventually realise they forgot their true self. Who they are, what is even the truth anymore. They can't tell if they genuinely like a person or are simply pretending.

Also, I like the idea of them protecting Aglaya from all the assassination attempts by the army, only to end up being the one to kill her.

IKR!? That would be the coolest thing ever--TS2 has aged extraordinarily well, considering it’s a 20+ year old game. All it needs is modern meshes/textures and graphics, and updated pop culture references--the gameplay is arguably better than TS3; its neighborhoods are pretty great; the lore is iconic, and the TS2 community is still thriving to this day. A TS1/TS2 remake would be the best thing for The Sims franchise, rather than making TS5. The Resident Evil 2 remake was outstanding. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 7′s remake wasn’t all it was hyped up to be, and they took it in what many feel is the WRONG direction. So simmers would have to hope EAxis wouldn’t eff up and like, remove any of TS2′s features; just add to what’s already there (TS3′s CASt & Story Progression, TS4′s build mode, Freeplay’s venues, etc).

PREACH! Greenplumboblover singlehandedly proved that simmers can create whatever the heck we want, given the know-how. I can’t wait to see what else the community comes up with (I want peacocks, just saying 🦚). It just goes to show that EA is lazy AF--ONE PERSON created a farm animal from scratch in their free time, for free, and I bet it didn’t take GPL 6 whole years to make them, the way it took EA 6 years to convert the chickens and cows from TS3 to TS4 for $40. 🙄 #EAYouSuck

Maybe try making custom made bird cages to fit their bodies? Maybe that solve the size issue? Cool idea regardless tho.

This is actually a neat solution, thank you! Using even the regular log-perch would definitely look better, agreed. My main concern is the clipping when sims interact with the dragons though. They’re huge when sims hold them, and constantly clip right through their heads.

Granted, even my bunny rabbits clip through heads when sims snuggle them, but it’s not 100% of the time (more like 75%, pfft).

But my dragons are downright unplayable at the size they are, which makes no sense, cuz I didn’t resize the meshes at all! They snap back to their regular size in-between every animation, and I have no clue why, cuz all I did was swap the meshes/textures--this makes no frikkin sense. 😩

why is there no change to the mines after 15+ years of destroying an environment?

i modeled the sinnoh region of tether almost exclusively on the hokkaido region of japan. from the layout of cities like sapporo, abashiri, and muroran, to geography like lake saroma northeast of veilstone and the hidaka mountain range for lower mt coronet, and especially, to the isolationism. i kept it trie to pokemon in the fact that sinnoh has no railways, unlike its real-life counterpart, which has plenty for traversing its vastness. a big part of hokkaido is how empty it is.

[on that note, though i mention both, i used muroran photography to model veilstone instead of abashiri, as its a proper port town. not super significant, jsu thought i’d bring it up, since muroran is sandgem’s counterpart.]

hokkaido is vastly underpopulated in ratio to its size. its mostly due to climate, and nature. things are far less technologized there. outside of sapporo, you won’t find very many glowing billboards and fancy casinos and active nightlife. you have to ride a train for hours to reach the next big town. the mountain range cuts the northern region in half.

when compared to this, little villages out in the middle of the wilds are far more isolated than towns. especially when they’re remnants of indigenous tribes. it’s sad, but it’s pretty standard process in the world nowadays -governments don’t care about the native people much. it’s prevalent in the united states, and if you’ve ever read commentary from fma’s mangaka arakawa, you’ll know the same is true for japan. the ainu are isolated to hokkaido. they aren’t looked after much.

so, even though it’s been a direct result of oreburgh’s mines’ negative effects, it’s still a matter of most of the sinnoh region not even knowing the village existed, and even if they did, not paying it mind. the wilds of sinnoh are difficult to traverse, and it’s more logical to take a boat to your destined city instead of traversing through them. that’s why so many of the big towns in sinnoh are located on a shore. for others, like jubilife and hearthome, there are airports that cater to people. and, for real life hokkaido, there are the trains.

i really wrote abt the mining incident in reference to bangladesh. in hokkaido, once all the prevalent mines started having accidents, the japanese government was quick to shut them down. in other eastern countries, especially bangladesh, the government is notorious for doing nothing abt the insane amounts of river pollution caused by factory waste. writing the river scene was heartbreaking, but learning about the trash rivers that prevail in countries with vast amounts of pollution, of the ones that run stark orange with mining waste, that was more difficult than anything i’d written for tether. 

so it comes down to being a mix of two things. one, sinnoh’s government viewing the production of the mine and the money it brings over the safety of the nature that surrounds it. and, two, no one noticing the damage anyway. it’s not like it ever affected oreburgh. or, maybe it did, but they installed the fresh-air vents to keep the mines clean, like the changes made in pokemon platinum suggest? the oreburgh mines are the sinnoh region’s majority of energy, after all (you can argue for sunyshore, but i’d say solar power only stretches so far from the source) so even if there’s a scuffle of it here or there, keeping it active is important.

also. my take of the pokemon world has always been a little gritty. so there’s that.

why hancock as champion?

i ask myself this question everyday. i don’t even like boa. why did i include her, if in name only? what was i thinking? oh well. it’s already been done.

[side note, again. if boa’s in charge of sinnoh, considering her, erm, personality, is it hard to believe nothing was ever done abt the mine pollution? aka does she care abt anyone but herself hm hm ]

pt 2.

i introduce a pokemon known as driftzel rather early on. it’s luffy’s, and it’s an in-progress pokemon, a concept i thought would be interesting to use. you can see what driftzel looks like here. it also links to the blog i got the idea from. instead of it being like a natural evolution, though, the idea in tether is more of a middle evolution for pokemon with two lines. so, there aren’t any for three-line evolutions. i was originally going to introduce ricaru, an evolution between riolu and lucario, but i moved away from that idea somewhere around writing part 4.

herbalist!law is the solution i came up with in lieu of him being a doctor. i had so much fun with the berries. when i was doing my maps for each part of tether, i had separate maps marking out the locations of berries in the games and which ones law collects along the journey to veilstone. 

hearthome is the only city i didn’t base on a real world counterpart. i think because i had too much to work with already. the cathedral, the contest hall, the gym. all the architecture. the poffin house. i didn’t wanna change anything abt hearthome, and more importantly, i wanted to portray part of japan’s hospitality here, too. it does extend all the way to hokkaido, yes. people are nice, and friendly, and happy to have travelers, just as depicted in all the games. 

yes, all of ace’s pokemon are named after spade pirates. except for isuka, because i couldn’t resist. yes, striker is a spade pirate, it was his ship.

^ in platinum, the opposite shore houses the hallowed tower where you can encounter spiritomb. sensing the presence of an evil spirit leaves luffy on edge, thus their dodge to avoid it.

why are lunar wings, an event-only item, brought up in hearthome?

you’re right. lunar wing is a rare dppt item, and you can only get it after encountering cresselia on fullmoon island. my inspiration came from an episode of the dp anime, where a stall in canalave was selling the feathers as homage to the game event. actually, to go further, the same thing happened in the darkrai movie, which is where i got most of the insp. especially for the charms made out of them -look at the picture here!! i figured, with the sinnoh region i was depicting being a place of mostly friendly and peaceful pokemon, cresselia was more generous with her feathers. they make for popular items, and if they work in keeping the bad dreams away, whats the harm? plus, they’re in hearthome, a hotbed for tourists and foreign activity, because they’d sell best there. a good luck souvenir from sinnoh? sign me up.

but they are still lunar wings, and they do work, as shown with chimchar. i really wanted a piece of practical merchandise i could show off, and once i got the idea for chimchar’s introduction, i tweaked the hearthome scene to include the feathers. if you pay attention, though, you’ll note that law no longer has restless sleep after luffy’s secured a lunar wing.

the solaceon ruins was a place i wanted to explore so badly, but it just didn’t make sense within the continuity of the story, especially when i decided to go the northern route and introduce tsuru out of the fog. my original ideas were split between that, and law/lu cutting through the mountainous area of the ruins as a shortcut to veilstone. i was really captivated with exploring the uncharted areas of sinnoh’s map, and i think at this point i had established enough, so i decided they would stay on paved routes this time. but! i did want to bring it up, which is where carmel comes in.

in the games, there are houses on the outskirts of solaceon, nestled between the trees, and very close to the ruins. there’s one house where a little boy will give you ball capsule stickers. that’s the basis for mother carmel’s house. she lives there with anana, the first of the captive granddaughters to be introduced. 

anana is creepy in canon. you can’t die that. i used carmel’s canon portrayal to match, and then the scene becomes a match of who’s creepier -the ruins or this old lady? the atmosphere around the ruins is weird. there are unknown there, so the space is distorted. it’s an old place. it’s quite possibly connected to giratina and the distortion world, since there are unknown present. it’s supposed to be eerie and strange and off-putting. it’s supposed to feel like a place where a wandering child can disappear into quite easily. though, maybe carmel’s just inattentive.

The trees out here are tall, towering over them in shades of deep green and dull orange, a byproduct left over from spring’s bloom

i mention orange trees in a section of the woods just past solaceon. they’re not orange from fall, though, they’re naturally so. oran trees! any off-colored trees mentioned -assume they’re berry trees. also another berry thing i had fun with, deciding which was a bushel and which was a plant and which was a huge tree. 

i had way too much fun depicting the fog forest. i actually listened to a lot of pkmn soundtrack while writing tether, and for this part, this santalune forest remix was on constant replay. getting turned around, not being able to see your map, hearing the sounds and calls of wild pokemon, and then getting so lost in it that you begin to hear what isn’t there. not being able to see in front of you, barely able to dodge attacks and sabotage from wild pokemon, and feeling like youre going insane from myriads of different tunes clashing together. the road between solaceon and the dragon tamer’s house is terrifying, and i wanted to use this to depict the dangers of traveling in the pokemon world. though most sinnoh pokemon thus far had been shown to have good intentions, it can’t be said about every pokemon. 

not to mention the big drop you have before the bridge, right when you get out of the fog! not really even out of it, as it sticks around near the dragon tamer’s house. could you imagine encountering something like that in real life? imagine how many accidents there would be.

so i had a bit of trouble in deciding if i wanted to use tsuru or not. this was fairly early on in wano, and i knew i wanted to use tama, but who to pair her up with for grandmother/daughter matches was iffy. looking back at my list, i had lots of other picks for the dragon elder. gloriosa, shakky, kureha, rouge, gerth, even! carmel, too, at one point was a pick, since i planned this part out early on into the story. i actually had marine tsuru on the list as well! in the end, i think i decided on wano tsuru bc of all the dragon tie-ins thus far. if i were to go back, now, i think i might change it to toki and hiyori, possibly. or, tsuru and hiyori. not that i dont love tama, though, i do. 

i had a small list of grandkids, too, depending on who was the grandmother. anana, rebecca, tama, marguerite, and a few choices for marine tsuru (the standout was, apparently, isuka. then i repurposed the name for ace’s talonflame. tashigi was another pick, but in the end in wanted little girls.) at another point i thought about hiluluk and chopper, and had another grandfather/son combo that i can’t remember anymore. those were scrapped early on, since i wanted all girls. i also thought abt chimney and kokoro, but i wanted them on a more coastal city, to mirror water 7. 

there were two things i really wanted to happen in tether. one was a pokemon joining a team. and another was an evolution. part 2 fulfills one of those w chimchar, the pokemon i always wanted luffy to have, and the one i never knew i needed him to earn. also, giving pokemon their own personalities is really cute.

also, just before this scene, i take a skip, marking the second time an indefinite amount of time has passed between scenes. i realized while writing the time through mt coronet that i was writing more passively than actively, and this was speeding up things more than i liked. it’s why i took a break and depicted hearthome for a couple days, so that things were happening more in the moment. still, i hope at this point it’s gotten across that it’s taken a long time to travel to veilstone. moving across the entire region is a long journey, after all.

introducting aura, a movie concept.

so. aura was the main reason i wanted tether to take place in the sinnoh region. it’s actually mentioned in the games once, and that’s from riley, one of the sinnoh quartet, on iron island. in the movie where the concept is introduced, it’s brought with a lucario, another region. in the anime, riley has an active role in aura. but, for those who’ve just played the games, or know next to nothing abt pokemon, i tried to explain my best in-story. 

aura takes the place of conquerors haki in this pokemon verse, basically. you’re born with the sensitivity to it, so it’s not something just everyone can unlock. it’s rare, and it’s widely unknown. like law says, in sinnoh it’s considered an old myth. outside of sinnoh, it’s hardly known at all. so finding others to learn from is difficult. most people go their whole lives without even knowing what it is, just considering it natural luck that they can perceive things than others cannot. luffy meeting shanks, and learning that they both are sensitive to aura, is an incredible thing. having someone to teach you how to manipulate aura rare, and pretty amazing, when you think of the chances. but luffy and shanks live in different regions, and luffy has his own life. it’s been a long time, training, and as he expresses in part 2, he’s still not as far as he wants to be.

aura guardians, what shanks is, are almost unheard of. with great power comes great responsibility. and with great power comes the desire to obtain it. aura guardians are secret for a reason -if someone found out a person had an incredible power, and had the desire to, would they not seek it out for themselves? even to other aura users, revealing themselves wasn’t wise. protect yourself first. it’s a motto you’ll see come into play later.

with that said, and with one of the last things luffy mentions in part 2: could that have something to do with why shanks has gone missing?

31. Do you write just for fun, or would you ever consider pursuing writing?

I’d love to have a future that’s just writing all day. Idk how feasible it is, but that’s my goal!

37. Which character is your favorite to write for?

Hmmm it changes a lot, and I’m usually pretty prone to falling to Fenris from Dragon Age bc he’s so complex, but right now it’s Theseus Scamander. I just love his entire personality. It’s so much fun to write and so different from most other characters.

38. From where do you draw inspiration?

I get a lot of requests and check prompt lists, but otherwise I’ll usually draw based on an emotion that I want to convey in a fic. Songs are also gold mines for insp. bc they (esp. country) tend to focus on telling stories. I also use some dreams since I have pretty vivid, memorable dreams, so I’ve turned a couple of those into fics. For original writing, I usually just sit and write and whatever happens, happens. Then I’ll revamp it from whatever I spit out in the first go-through.

Ohohohohohohoho I’m glad you both asked about Kirishima’s pack cause boy do I have answers - okay first things first, Kirishima is only dating Bakugou and he’s the only wolf shifter in the pack (well, Mina is also a shifter, just not a wolf shifter)

In the AU pack dynamics are loosely based on how wolf packs work in the wild: in nature usually there’s an alpha couple (the “alpha male” and his mate) and the rest of the pack is made out of their pups! So by all means it’s just a family unit - once the pups are old enough to fend for themselves they leave the “pack” to form their own family - they’re social animals, so they need a pack to be happy and safe, and that reflects in the AU too. In this universe though it’s pretty normal for wolf shifters to date/marry non-shifters or shifters of other kinds, and when that happens the resulting kids might or might not have shifting abilities, which results in the process of forming a pack being a bit all over the place

In Kirishima’s case, he was born by two non-shifters who had shifter blood in them - as a wolf shifter his wolf side needed a pack to feel well (let’s say, other wolves to play with and learn from and so on) so as a kid he used to spend a lot of time with Fat and Amajiki (both wolf shifters!) who acted as a surrogate pack for the wolf in him - now he’s old enough to have his own pack tho! And while ideally that would mean he builds his own family with another wolf shifter, he ended up falling for Bakugou, who’s a non-shifter and a man, which means the family plan sorta went down the drain. His wolf still needs a pack to be happy tho, and that ended up meaning he latched onto Mina (a childhood friend) and Kaminari and Sero (Bakugou’s close friends) who by this point are as close to him as if they were actual family.

So in theory Kirishima’s wolf side sees the pack as himself and Bakugou as the alpha couple and Mina, Sero and Kaminari as the “pups” - practically though Kirishima’s human side has a perfect grasp on his wolf’s instincts, so all in all it ends up just being five pals loving each other like family, no power imbalance at all (…he does get clingy after his pack members spend time with people outside of the pack, but he doesn’t ever try to stop them from socializing outside of the group and cuddles and general close proximity are all he needs to make his wolf feel better!)

…as you can see, I spent more time on this AU than strictly necessary haha

In the UA file there was noted how after he breaks it he needs a while to get in back up, but against Rappa he just kept on pulling it back up every time it got broken? So?? Was that just the moment’s adrenaline making him able to keep going, or did he actually get rid of the cooldown? If he did he doesn’t have a drawback anymore!!! You go my small rock son!!!!

He’s perfectly stable with Kaminari, Sero, Shouji and Tsuyu! (Kaminari and Sero cause they’re friends, Shouji and Tsuyu cause the resulting fusions are the only two Mineta fusions with no sexual tendencies at all. They just. Suppress that side of Mineta completely) He’s more or less stable with another few in the class, but the only perfectly stable ones are those four!

Uhmmm lemme see if I know how to word this properly… it is true that I ship every possible couple out of the four of them, and it’s also true that I ship the ot3 separately too (though I always prefer it if Kiri and Baku are together for ~otp reasons~ haha) and I guess I don’t mind the ot4 either? They give me a warm feeling and I love to think about them happy and together all flopped over each other and being affectionate and loving, but all of this can happen with them being in a really close frienship too, right? And I generally prefer them in that sort of relationship

The reason why is mostly that… how do I put this, every couple and trio have their own very singular dynamics, right? Bakugou and Kirishima’s relationship is gonna be different from Bakugou and Sero’s or Sero’s and Kirishima’s or Kaminari and Kirishima’s, they all have different moods and different feelings and so on, which means that they will have different ways in which they’ll develop too, I don’t know if you’re following me. I’m not saying that it’s impossible for all four of them to develop romantic feelings towards all the other three at the same time starting from such different relationships, it’s completely possible and that’s why I don’t mind the ot4 at all, but when I have such a huge playground to enjoy so many different friendships and relationships and dynamics, boiling them all down to the same “they’re romantically into each other” cuts a lot of the fun, for me!

So tl;dr what I mean is that I don’t mind the ot4 and I might draw for it in the future, but it’s more entertaining for me to pick a couple/ot3 and see how the other dynamics shift because of it then just put them all in the same relationship!

Also, I’m a fan of the idea of the four of them ending up being overly affectionate and tactile with each other anyway, so in the end romance or not what’s missing is just the kisses, isn’t it? I don’t draw n sfw anyway haha

Those robes weren’t meant for running, Luke thought as three of them stumbled past, red and shining and clearly not used to moving.

He waited, two, three, half-expecting another one - for symmetry, he supposed. None of this actually made sense, the guards in red visors and robes, the actual lava, the palace that looked like a cross between a sorcerer’s tower and a prison. None of it was anything he’d ever imagine wanting.

The sound of stumble-running had become fainter.

Luke closed his eyes, and suddenly trusted himself - he was jogging past the corner, towards his reflection in gleaming steel.

No guards, as far as he could see. But what about behind the door? - he closed his eyes and bit his lip and decided that no, his first assessment stood.

Only one person waited there.

Father, he tried again.

The lack of acknowledgement was hard to process. It was like, Luke thought, his father was asleep.

Yeah right. Darth Vader caught unawares - sleeping? That would never happen.

This plan was going to get him killed. Luke sucked in a breath and tasted sulphur.

Then he was in the room, eyes opening to complete and utter darkness. Not even the sound of -

The lights sprang on, making him jump. Great, he thought as acid lapped past his throat. Definitely going to die today.

It only took his eyes a few blink-cycles to adjust to the lighting. Not as bright as he’d initially feared. Already the room was retreating away into shadow. What few reflective surfaces he could make out quivered in the green light of a steadily blinking machine.

Next to the machine was a bed. Luke winced at it, expecting - he wasn’t sure what. The respirator, playing in his head right now - broken inhale, mechanical release, but that was in his head and not here.

I guess he is asleep, Luke thought, and found himself moving closer to the bed. There was a blanket, he realized, glittering hard in the light like it had been poured from the lava outside, then cracked into shards and piled into a burial mound.

A blanket with a distinct absence of limb-like structures underneath.

Luke sucked in a breath, but either his father was truly asleep or didn’t care if he was seen this way, listless and laid out like a patient in a medcenter. The more Luke allowed himself to think the possibility, the more he was reminded of such a place.

It even smelled of bacta.

Sometimes, when not even bacta could really help -

Luke made a decision. He’d shoot one good look at his father, take away from that what he could, and then leave.

Looking had been a mistake, Luke realized in the same moment he recognized a feeling from Bespin.

(monster - run - )

And yet he couldn’t look away. Scars had eaten into his father’s face, sunken mouths like Sarlaacs, rotten pits of black flesh. Surrounding them was skin so colorless it seemed to have no other purpose than to announce the strain of staying alive. A black respirator had been fitted over the nose and mouth, and there was a pipe coming out the bottom that looked like a severed spine.

A sound, out of place. Luke glanced to the door, then waved a hand at the locking mechanism.

Still, he felt nervous grappling for his comlink. “Artoo,” he hissed. “What’s going on out there?”

Luke couldn’t actually understand most of what Artoo was saying, but the melody was comforting.

“Sounds like you’ve got everything under control,” he said, and felt himself smile at the trilling response. “Yes, I’ll be right there.”

When he turned back for a last look, his father’s eyes had opened.

Little cracks, but the Force was suddenly alive in a way Luke hadn’t realized it wasn’t before. Shadows leapt from corners like dragons from their nests.

Around the bed, they gathered and gathered until Luke thought he could almost see claws and eyes.

“Father,” Luke said with all the dread he felt.

He couldn’t look. “Please, I know this was immensely stupid and you weren’t expecting me and you’re probably really mad but I had to come, I had to see …” Luke no longer knew what he was saying, only that he was afraid to say it even to the dark. “I had no idea. I’m sorry.”

The room was so still, and his senses so desperate for feedback, Luke finally heard the respirator. Quieter than his (constantly crinkling) outer flight suit (idiot - should have taken it off), he’d missed it over the hum of its operating machine. The inhale sounded like a shifting dune.

Pressing his eyes more tightly shut, he realized he couldn’t take it anymore and opened them.

What he saw was quite bizarre.

Instead of lashing out, instead of summoning a saber and dismembering him, instead of setting dragons upon him - the monster laid in bed and watched him and breathed. Breathed and smiled with nothing but the folded corners of his eyes, lashes fluttering closer and closer to sleep.

Luke felt his insides twist. How - how someone so ugly could still feel - feel -

His hand was hovering over the bed before he realized he couldn’t bring himself to touch that.

“Father,” he said, uncomfortable with his own disgust.

Flutter, and then a sound from the respirator, something more than sand and metal. But not yet human.

Luke wondered if he should probe or just let it go.

“It’s alright,” he said, drawing on experience with Artoo to keep his voice light. “We can talk some other time.”

He really should go, he thought, and yet there was movement under the hideous blanket, almost like his father was trying to a roll a shoulder, and that made it hard to look away, because - Luke knew that feeling of missing a limb and expecting it anyway -

“I like haa- having you in my dreams,” said the respirator.

This was shock, hitting Luke in the stomach like a first punch. This was shock, stealing the breath from his longs, and not because of the oddly phrased confession or the vulnerability it implied.

This was -

the cadence of a stranger

- his father’s voice.

“This isn’t a dream,” Luke said.

Instantly he hated the sound of his own confusion. This wasn’t the time to fall apart! Artoo was waiting for him, and - he was no longer that starstruck boy, looking to the desert sky for answers. “Father, I’m here because I wanted to talk to you —”

Vader’s eyes twitched and were suddenly wide with color, a bloody blue like milk from a sick cow.

As Luke’s thoughts derailed, he found himself the object of scrutiny. That calm gaze made something under his skin itch. It felt … a little mad, more than a little precarious.

“You should take a sss - a schower.”

“What?” Luke heard himself say.

Troubling as he found Vader’s reactions - his lack of them - Luke couldn’t help but feel more insulted by his words.

“Smell like a swamp.”

That was him, sputtering, because -

Because he hadn’t been this offended since he’d first met Han. “Well, excuse me for not meeting your …”

He’d trailed off in alarm.

The respirator was making a horrible grunting sound, like physical overexertion combining with the static hiss of malfunction. Worse, Vader was lifting his chin like a Bantha smelling danger from dozens of clicks away, eyes growing wider and shinier with increasing desperation.

Luke looked at those animal eyes and thought: I’m not up for this.

Only to suddenly remember Dagobah.

“Hey,” he said with a gentleness modeled from Leia, “I’m right here.” And he leaned forward just close enough that the respirator might pick up engine grease and cockpit leather and the sweat gathering in the armpits of unwashed flight suit.

“See?” he heard himself say. “No swamp.”

“Smell-ed,” Vader said, his absent tone telling Luke he’d already moved past the thought.

A thought about Bespin, apparently.

“Right,” Luke said, straightening back and away. “Well, I guess you’ll be glad to hear that I don’t live in a swamp any longer.”

The words echoed hollow.

Flexing his new hand in its glove, he glanced at the door and resolved to leave.

He would get no answers here. Looking back to his father, he saw eyes that were darting back and forth like a droid beyond repair. There was no way human eyes could possibly register anything at that speed.

Some kind of sedative, Luke thought. That would explain it.

Everyone needed medical attention from time to time. There was nothing he could do about it, and nothing his father could give him, not today.

Not like this.

“I hate this place.”

Milky eyes rolled back into his skull as though Vader wanted nothing more than to never again see his surroundings, becoming more yellow and grey as they turned.

Luke felt his forehead wrinkle. “Yeah, me too,” he said, and heard his own relief.

Well, at least they could agree about something. He was speaking before he could stop himself. “Gives me the creeps, if I’m being honest.”

“Mustafar …”

Suddenly Vader’s forehead rumpled, the white ridges that once must have carried eyebrows springing out at Luke like swords crossing.

Finally, Luke thought, and was surprised by his own eagerness. But then again, why not? His father was finally coming to his senses. Maybe this hadn’t been a total waste after —

“I killed you,” said Vader.

He spoke with force, with a thick and stilted and horribly familiar desert accent. Yellow glazed his eyes, suddenly focused on Luke’s. “I have no compunctions about ending you again.”

Luke thought about the blaster at his hip.

“I can sense your fear,” said Vader with a cruel smile in his voice.

Then the respirator echoed the grunt-hiss from earlier. Focus still on his blaster, it was with detached absorption that Luke saw it. A vein - twitching, insistent, single-minded in its awfulness - emerging on the plane of a hideously bald forehead.

“It has always made you weak.”

Meaning set in only fuzzily, etched in the form of a bulging vein. Then the picture before him began to evoke pity.

And with pity came clarity.

This was his father, struggling to free himself from the heavy blanket and obviously not realizing he could sit up and let it fall - confused, disoriented, flapping for arms that weren’t there …

“You never killed me,” Luke said, shock and pity together evening his voice into something almost compassionate. “I don’t think you even knew I was alive until recently.”

“No!” shouted the monster.

Run, said the feeling from Bespin.

Help him, said the longing, as yet uncrushed part of him, captivated by a bulging vein.

“Many times,” seethed his father, “have you survived, and each time, I have killed you.”

He made it sound very convincing. For the first time, Luke noticed the hypos and stims in metal cases next to the breathing machine, the examining table with monstrously sized restraints, the unbreakable chain between the bed and the wall.

It was all rattling.

Even the blanket seemed no longer a blanket but a straitjacket, fixing his father in place despite - because of injuries and violence.

“Don’t think you can run!” Vader shouted with all the rawness of a man made impotent. “My hatred for you is stronger than you can imagine, Skywalker.”

(not a bedroom a psychiatric ward)

“Father,” he managed beyond the hysterical thought. The door was so so close, mere steps behind him -

Except that the monster had gone still at the word, losing its interest in overthrowing the blanket. Wide eyes roamed the room, warily searching.

Compassion felt almost like surrender. I can help him, Luke thought in the rush of it.

He reached out, ready to this time to touch.

(stupid stupid)

Vader had flinched, and Luke dropping his hand like it was on fire seemed only to worsen matters. It took no time for his father to go from vulnerable to volatile, for his color to purple with outrage.

Like slavering dogs awaiting a signal, the shadows responded. They rippled in black, vicious with anticipation.

“You have no father,” said the monster with teeth. “I would know. Obi-Wan … would have been wiser to cut off your head!”

Obi-Wan?

Somehow Luke had ended up looking to Vader’s eyes for answers. But they were near-blank to him, bright and brimming only with loathing.

“You’re sick!” he heard himself say, hand on the hilt of his blaster.

A flash of irritation, then Vader’s expression settled into something lofty. If he knew he was limbless in a medbay bed and restrained like the insane, he didn’t seem to think it mattered.

“Indeed,” he said in a voice strengthened by malice. “But if it is too late for me, then it is far too late for you.”

This was clearly a threat, a reason to finally get out of this loony asylum - and yet something about the words caught in Luke’s mind like fabric distorted in a snag, like Aunt Beru’s thin blouses when he hadn’t been careful. It was like - there was something here he should be able to figure out.

He took in a breath.

Trusted a whim. “I think you’ve confused me with someone else,” he said, and closed his eyes to Vader’s simmering expression of dismissal.

Remembering the effect one word could have, he decided to try it again. “Father, it’s Luke. I’m your son.”

When he opened his eyes, he saw that Vader’s forehead was a storm of confusion.

As he watched, his father’s eyes grew blue-red, translucent and runny. “My son …”

His voice was soft.

“Yes,” said Luke, and remembered to lift his hand from his blaster.

He tried to smile, but it only came out pained in his voice. “I came to see you.”

Vader was blinking too rapidly to see anything, but Luke took a brave step forward anyway.

It felt strange not to extend a hand, but the risks of triggering some new episode seemed too high. His hands ended up as fists at his sides. “Father, I’m right here.”

A shake of that bald head, and then Vader was looking to Luke with emotions too contradictory to define. Terror, perhaps, filtered through overwhelming disdain.

“Where is my son?” he asked, demanding but also subdued. “Is he safe?”

The incredulity Luke felt was quickly becoming anger.

“I’m right here!” he shouted, all the pent-up frustration about his abandonment, his dismemberment, his disillusionment breaking into his voice. “Here, you dimwit!”

And not even the surge of guilt was enough to stop his next words. “You know what? This is pointless.”

Artoo must be worried sick. Pressing the scowl on his face into something resigned, avoiding his father’s widened eyes, Luke turned from the bed and fished for his comlink.

“Don’t go.”

“Come in, Artoo,” said Luke, and if that pang was a sense of betrayal, he wasn’t going to feel bad about it. “Yeah, yeah, I’m ready. Just make sure none of those guards catch sight of me on my way.”

He wasn’t going to look back. Shoulders straightened, he made for the door.

“Don’t go,” Vader said with plaintive desperation.

Bitterness felt warm in his center. “You won’t remember this anyway,” Luke heard himself mutter.

“Come back!”

He almost did.

End of Year Collage - Best of 2019

Rules: Find your fave pics of your story or your blog in general and post them up in a collage! :D it can be 1 picture or 100 whatever you want. But just reflect on your fave moments in your story or on your blog. It can be cute moments or pictures you’re just really proud of.

I did this last year and decided to make one for 2019, too.

I used the TumblrTop10 generator for my top CC uploads, which naturally get more traffic than my gameplay pics & photosets.

But I like giving a top 10 for my gameplay pics too, looking back at all my fave fandoms I incorporated into The Sims 3 throughout the year.

MY THOUGHTS (for each month) under the cut:

January - February: Tsuki no Kusuri

My Asian Alice in Wonderland meets Wizard of Oz gameplay, which I ran out of time on before all my other simming projects started. I WILL have to finish this, cuz I really liked it. There’s just not enough time in the year~! U_U

March: Malec & Shadowhunters

Season 3A and ESPECIALLY Season 3B put this here girl THROUGH IT. I still haven’t even PROCESSED 3B yet! XD In 2020 I’ll catch up on my 3B inspired gameplay posts.

April: God of War

I freaking love this game. I’m actually listening to the OST as I type all this. XD

May: MALEC

Malec got married! :D And the Shadowhunters series officially ended. :( We were effing robbed. >_<

June - July: New Game, Who Dis? (Dragon Age & Sekiro)

I started my Sekiro and Dragon Age Inquisition conversions. The DAI stuff got way more buzz than the Sekiro stuff by FAR, so I decided to focus more on DAI in July and put Sekiro on the back burner.

July: DAD of BOY

The wonderful Astreanevermore helped me realize my dream of having Kratos in my Sims 3 God of War gameplay!

August: Mariachi de los Muertos

I’ve always wanted to do an undead mariachi post, don’t ask me why. I still wanna do a creepier version. But I love the way the colorful & fun version came out, too. 

September: Area 52 Raid

I was in a seriously deep sci-fi mood that month. The Cyberpunk Metropolis set & post went through the roof with y’all, and I was shocked. It all perfectly coincided with the IRL Area 51 Raid that never happened. So I made my sims go. They got arrested. XD

October: Nagron’s Halloween

I was pretty Malec heavy this year, so for Halloween I decided to give Nagron some love, as they decorated their new house for the holiday season, and invited their friends and family over for some good ole Season’s Creepings. >:)

November: LoL INSP True Damage

I bet y’all were effing sick of the True Damage I kept spamming everyone with. Sorry, but as long as the song’s stuck in MY head, y’all are gonna have to just deal with it! XD

December: The Mandalorian

Because I am obsessed. I need that baby in my life. Even if he Force chokes me when I forget to change his nappies or the frogs aren’t slimy enough. NEED. I’ll steal him from the entire frikkin Empire if I have to!
