getting up on my soapbox for a moment. i find it laughable that nearly every time someone says they don’t like rap they cite hamilton and k-pop as the only rap they can tolerate. because everything else is just so violent and full of blatant consumerism. first off. so is k-pop. secondly. idk how to tell you the founding fathers were some of the most violent people around (coming from a black american descentant of slaves who is most likely related to thomas jefferson. shouldn’t have to explain the relevance here). thirdly. hamilton and k-pop both reference and interpolate rap. so idk what to tell you babes. you do like rap. you just don’t like black people. say it with your full chest next time.
#it’s very funny because there’s a whole conversation about how white people treat k-pop and rap#like they are both a homogenous thing and not two very massive and diverse genres#like k-pop isn’t just pop and the idea of it being ‘purer’ is you guys infantalizing Asians#like idk I don’t think you guys hear yourselves sometimes#but that’s another conversation.#jude.txt

This might be a dumb question, please don't throw rocks at me, but is there a novel similar to TCF, ORV and TSTIR but the MC is female instead?
I guess the criteria is: epic fantasy-action, loveable self-sacrificial but cunning and unhinged MC loved by everyone, very little to no romance and of course misunderstanding trope sprinkled in.
There are cool and badass female characters in each of the works I mentioned above but I would like an older woman protagonist (who also acts her age and because we need more older women in webnovels) who fucks thing up in the name of money and peaceful retirement BUT is also caring and kind to their close ones.
The closest example I have come is Katarina Claes but her franchise is more slice-of-life and romance (yah for the bisexual harem though).
Another friend of mine recommend Roxanna from Protecting The Female Lead's Older Brother but I haven't read it and so far, the romance content seems heavy. Still, i would try it once I have free time. For the gorgeous art mostly.
So if any kind souls here have any particular novels that fit these criterias, don't hesitate to let know. Or if it's a niche works that you have been itching to let loose that fit 3/4 or half of the criterias, I would not mind.
EDIT 12/6/2024: I'm flooded and thankful for the replies, which is more than I expected but for now, my list is pretty long and I don't want to overwhelm the chat so, if there are no response, just know that I'm checking when I can. Thanks again for all the good samaritans ❤️
#i think we need to diverse the genre of webnovels targeting women and young girls more#but uh who knows#tcf#lcf#lcf novel#orv#orv novel#tsctir#sctir novel#webnovels#webnovel recs#my next life as a villainess#cale henituse#kim dokja#han yoojin#katarina claes

#one piece#sanji#black leg sanji#everysanji#summit war saga#ch553#ft. luffy#ft. zoro#ft. nami#ft. usopp#ft. chopper#ft. robin#ft. franky#ft. brook#thinking abt that one blog that is kinda going around rn does it hate/love women or whatever#and even tho as of queueing this i havent seen op on there i dont think you could do a hard and fast yes or no for op#since i think there are a number of women that are loved by the series and oda does actually give women diverse body types#and not all of the good women are stereotypically attractive (lola and charlotte come to mind whenever i think about this)#and a lot of the women do have established goals and wants and needs that are validated through the narrative#even pudding is a well written character tbh <- needs to reread wci dont ask me to go into details quite yet#but then you look at some of the other character designs. and how some characters do just fall flat#or arent well written. given that its such a long series though that is so expected and it holds up a lot better than say...#naruto. or bleach. in this regard but i wish we did get more fights with nami and robin sometimes u know.#i do really enjoy the ones we get and i'm excited to get back to wano for robin's fight with black maria#bc i did see some screencaps from that and ik fights arent the only thing to showcase a character's worth#but this is a shounen series so to some extent fights are a staple of the genre.#idk where im going with this its 10pm for me and i'm very tired t-t#i'm so lighthoused out. and they're redoing the roof on my house this week which is so augh

guy very into musical theatre who mistakingly thinks they're connecting with me over a shared interest: yeah, weber is foundational and all, but i've always felt more of a connection with what starkid's got going on, y'know?
me, who's only ever listened to tracks from the musical episode of Psych: uhhhhhhhhh... hello my name is shawn spencer? this is my partner, lil' wayne? the evidence is underwhelming? but my intuition is insane?
#to be clear i am in fact a muscian and have a greater-than-basic understanding of the genre and the artform#in fact half the reason i'm so obsessed with the psych musical is bc of all the ways it utilizes the actual genre tropes of musicals#to make itself an effective and genuine article of the medium#but outside of the theory uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sorry i know nothing i am but a wee babe#honestly the orchestration of the tracks is what i keep finding myself impressed by#it's so varied and diverse both in harmonic structure/progression and actual instrumentation#one thing i especially love is how the piece where shawn spells out the crime combines a ton of motifs from earlier tracks#into one unified piece of music#which directly mirrors how these breakdowns narratively combine all the facts the audience has been shown throughout the episode#psych#psych the musical#running my mouth

wip covers for playlists of stuff i think they’d listen to. spotify links if you wanna check em out vvv
squabble | rig | carrion | jerryjack
#rig and carrion’s are particularly good imo#rig listens to jazz/jazz fusion/math rock and similar#carrion’s playlist is pretty diverse in genre but i tried to go for generally atmospheric type stuff#and ending with melody 8 which is mainly for the bit cause it’s not good on a playlist but i absolutely think carrion would like it#it’s 28 minutes of improvisational noise#squabble’s is pretty scuffed lol. it was so hard to choose stuff for her#doodles#music posting#notably not really things that are like lyrically representative of them. just stuff they’d like#hence the hand that feeds on squabble’s#ocs#squabble the pigeon#rig the fox-bat#carrion the cat#jerryjack the hare#deadeye delivery

This feels obvious but maybe it's not so. The silence in Paladin Strait is. The strait. That's the crossing. He can't sing because he's schwimming. Right
#and obviously it'll be a big scene in the MV im sure but he said they wanted it to be a sonic experience first#because you're supposed to be in the paladin strait and you cross and get rewarded with the secret track#this doesnt even feel like it warrents a post im assuming everyone knows this i just think its NEAT#so i want to talk about it#twenty one pilots#clancy#tyler joseph#josh dun#there's some really interesting sound design stuff on this album that theyve never done before#like the silent break & then also the intro to vignette with the strings and the vulture cry callback#and how they crafted the album as a loop that enhances itself by Being looped#i wish they got more experimental more often in terms of song structure like i would love an ambient / field recording mixtape by tyler#or loooooong instrumental breaks#i genuinely believe tyler is on a trent reznor level of production diversity but tøp is almost strictly a verse chorus 3-5 min song band#even if they play with structure and genre within that#like i wish tyler would make some fuckin merzbow type shit im so serious i think he could. he never will though wah

"what kind of music do you listen to?" "i listen to everything.. idk" has got to be the worst response to give. you mean you can't come up with like three main genres you just Enjoy.. i listen to everything too, but I could at least list some main genres or styles that I tend to like
#or just list every single one off. it'll at least make for more interesting conversation. i promise you're not that special#it's also like. you look at someone who says that and Know their genres are not That diverse#you listen to bedroom pop deftones kanye and olivia rodrigo don't piss me off#i'll get off my arrogant soapbox now -.-#i just went through the first week of classes so you can understand..

Donald Sutherland guest stars as the appropriately named Philip Guest, a less appropriately unbalanced kidnapper, in Gideon's Way: The Millionaire's Daughter (1.21, ITC, 1966)
#donald sutherland#fave spotting#gideon's way#the millionaire's daughter#1966#itc#classic tv#:(#I've had this rattling around in my drafts‚ with a whole heap of other Gideon's Way posts‚ for months now#just waiting for me to get around to tagging them and getting a few final quotes etc (moving abroad did not help in that regard)#a sad reason to be dragging this out from drafts but it felt fitting somehow to mark Don's passing with one of his earliest and#most obscure roles. anyone who has followed my fave spottings at all (follow the tag for more early Sutherland) will know i have always#championed Donald's status as surely the most successful rentayank on the scene; they were an (unofficial) group of actors‚ mostly from#Australia or (like Don) Canada‚ who'd moved to the UK for work and found themselves filling just about any American role on classic tv or#in minor Brit films. Don was far from the most prolific‚ spending just a few years in the uk where others (eg Paul Maxwell‚ Shane Rimmer#Charles Tingwell and more) ended up staying for most of their long careers. but Don did the rounds‚ turning up in shows like this and#The Avengers‚ The Saint and The Champions. he even managed to fit in a couple of films‚ including Hammer's Die Die My#Darling (aka Fanatic) and the wonderful Dr Terror's House of Horrors for Amicus. then it was on to bigger and better things...#i can't think of many legitimate Hollywood leading men (and he absolutely was that) to show such incredible range#to work so diversely across genre and across style and to jump so readily from trashy blockbuster fare to genuine art film#in many ways he was a jobbing character actor somehow caught in the career of a full blown movie star; those films were all the better#for that fact and for his sheer dedication to his craft‚ to having fun‚ to doing the kind of stuff he wanted to do#truly a one off. we don't get many Donald Sutherlands. we should cherish the ones that we do#rip

maybe this is dumb but i kind of hate when people say vocaloid like it’s a genre. “what’s your favorite genre of music” “oh i like the guitar”. that’s what you sound like.
#.txt#it’s an instrument… vocaloid producers make a MASSIVE and diverse variety of music#vocaloid can be any genre what are we doing here man
