JOHN'S FIRST ENCOUNTER

- While John was walking in the nearby road, he meets Nicole walking in her church attire with a pistol gun.

- Upon approaching her, John raises his crucifix at her. Nicole looks at him with a confused+offended look, but proceeds to ask him “Have you seen a cat run by?”. Nicole didn't owned this not actually cat but tells John it's hers and it ran off to the forest. She is supposed to kill it with her gun. John then tells her that he hasn't and Nicole thanks him before walking away.

- After John exits the martin house, he would hear a gunshot and tries to find it, leading him to Nicole with the demon. (John can either watch her kill it or shoot it w his shotgun idk) John will not meet Nicole again until he visits the hardware store near the Sterling PD.

NICOLE'S CAT

- Nicole's cat is not actually a cat. The body of the cat is a vessel for the demon, making Nicole able to have it around. She believes that her sister's spirit is somehow still linked with it, and tries not to kill it, feeling too guilty for years.

- After she moves to Connecticut and finding a job, she comes home to find a dead body of a man in her room. Deciding to finally kill the demon, she attempts to 'exorcise' it again, the way she tried to exorcise her sister, but fails again. (Bro does NOT know how to)

ok so he's not the BEST main character but he isn't a bad one either. a bunch of people are like ohhh he's so sentimental and he cares too much about demons yada yada yada he cares more about a man he just met than his dead family

first of all, when he first found his family murdered, he didn't have time to grieve because nezuko was still alive and he wanted to save her. he hadn't known that she was going to turn into a demon when he had first found her, so it was his biggest priority getting her to a doctor.

and yeah, he cares about demons and sympathizes with them, but he still kills them because he knows its for the better. his way of giving mercy is giving demons who accept their fate painless deaths. his rage, however, for demons like akaza or muzan are unmatched and he really doesn't gaf about their story he just wants to kill them because they took people that were important to him from him.

tanjiro isn't like deku or emma - he doesn't try to find a loophole to save the villain. his goal isn't like deku's either - he isn't trying to become the strongest or defeat muzan, his number one goal is to turn nezuko back into a human. he just takes quite a few side quests on his mission. he knows that if demons that eat humans are left alive, then they will keep making lives miserable for families, which is why he kills them. if it was deku or emma they would've tried to find a way to peacefully live in harmony with demons 🤓

tanjiro is kind, caring, and sympathetic, but he isn't a cute innocent fluffy baby that needs to be cared for. he's the perfect mix of a protagonist with a kind but strict heart (like a mother). he isn't focused on trying to rewrite the system so that all demons can live happily. he knows that nezuko is different from the other demons because she doesn't eat humans, which is why he's only trying to rewrite the system for her.

so yeah tanjiro isn't a bad mc. he's far from being the best, but he's a good one. An example of a bad mc would be deku or takemichi (i have a burning hate for both of them sorry not sorry) perhaps if tanjiro was in a story with a better plot, his actions could have been represented more clearly, but that isn't the case.

maria: trans girl who realized she was trans VERY early in her life. one day little kid maria was like 'i'm a girl now' and her parents were like ok yay ^_^ and actually genuinely supported her (unlike richter's parents). she's having a ball in this bitch

annette: THEE most stealth trans woman to ever exist. she also has really bad dysphoria like richter. i think she fears rejection a lot even though she knows the people around her would accept her. i think the only person she's told about her transness is richter (and eventually maria) they got that t4t mind link. she performs femininity in the very stereotypical 18th century way

the succubus: since she's a demon born in the fires of hell and in her original form she's just a cis woman she kinda just defaults to that. she also doesn't think about gender too much since she can shapeshift and do whatever the hell she wants but at the end of the day she's just a Woman

After watching Dororo 2019 I have a few thoughts:

1: Hyakkimaru is adorable. He's just so awkward and sweet at times. Him nuzzling everything is literally one of the cutest things I've seen.

2: I refuse to acknowledge Jukai, Nui, and Tahomaru's deaths. They survived the fire, and started over, together. Jukai and Nui also gradually fall in love because I think it'd be cute for Hyakkimaru's two mamas to get together. Everyone still THINKS they died, so when Hyakkimaru and Tahomaru see each other again it's awkward, and a surprise. I just want the brothers to love each other!!

3: my fiance and I kept comparing the series to Inuyasha. I think it would be interesting to see a crossover between them. I think Inuyasha would throw Hyakkimaru for a loop lol. But a few interactions I really want: Hyakkimaru and Miroku (I like to emphasize Miroku's kindness and intelligence more than his negative traits, and I think he'd find Hyakkimaru interesting, and Hyakkimaru could have some interesting thoughts on both of them being cursed. however Miroku being a bad influence on Dororo is also extremely funny), Hyakkimaru and Kikyo (both are "half" people. He has half his body and is working to get it back, Kikyo has half her soul, and literally can't get her soul back without killing Kagome. Despite typically being quite gentle and kind, especially to children, she's also supportive of Hyakkimaru's revenge. Honestly I ship it and think it would be cute AF for them to get together. I refuse to ship him with Dororo, because she's a child when they start hinting at it... Nah, that's his kid sister.) and finally, Dororo and Rin (a girl their age to play with! They are both tough little girls who may witness horrors but remain cheerful and love their freakishly violent companion. Also the image of them meeting Sesshomaru would be incredible. He's NOT a good demon, but he doesn't gaf about humans one way or another. I wonder if Hyakkimaru would have enough self preservation to NOT try and fight him)

4: I really got the vibe that Dororo is now in charge of, at LEAST that village at the end (especially since she's the one funding the rebuild) and I, personally, think that's hilarious, so I go with it immediately. I want 10000 stories about Dororo being treated like an authority figure while being like 8, I love it.

5: Hyakkimaru, how did you FUNCTION??? He had a PROSTHETIC SPINE??? First of all: how??? I have to handwave that with weird magic shenanigans because WHAT?

Jfgjdsg sorry I took so long 2 answers. I wasn't sure how much info I should spill, so I rewrote this like 6 times. each time a different part of the story lol

So! First thing about Cream is that they're a demon! Well, technically part demon. Cream comes from a long family history of demon blood. On their mother's side, it's rumored that the family made a deal with the devil for power and riches but for whatever reason they never uphold the deal and was cursed with supernatural ability that will never give them peace. Basically, they're kinda like mediums.

On their father's, rumored to blessed with the blood of angels. Noble and holy people who lead with strength and wisdom. They’re basically like royalty. But plot twist! Both sides of the family r from demons ! A lot happens (trauma) in their childhood and early life, but I won't get to that

Where the story starts is when Cream is being dragged up from 'hell' after just successfully taking over the throne . She was just betrayed by one of their allies, which she had suspected but underestimated how hard they were gonna hit. Being dragged up to the moral realm means death to demons, but since Cream is part human, it won't kill her because she has a physical form.

Anyways, where Cream was pulled up from was in Judith's late grandma's backyard, who watched the whole thing. Obviously scared shitless she starts freaking out.

Cream needs energy to get back to 'hell' so they take control of the situation and convince judith that they're just an injured poor soul that just wants to go home :(

Judith unfortunately believes them bc she understand how it feels. Cream can easily read Judith right off the bat. Judith is deeply insecure, low self-esteem, and just wants to belong, plus ! She's grieving over her presume to be dead grandma. Cream takes advantage of her vulnerability and tells judith whatever she wanna hear to slowly consume her energy (which will eventually kill her). Girl falls in love with them bc who wouldn't?

This is the part of the story where I'm deciding how cruel Cream will be for her own desires . Is this all just an act to get what they want and secretly actually care about Judith in their weird way? Or does cream simple not gaf ?

Uhhh fun facts!

• Cream goes by they/she/it . No longer really sees themselves as a person more of a thing. No labels on sexuality bc Cream will go for anyone they think is fun

• Cream has Anophthalmia, which is when the eye is didn’t develop . They also happen to get a scar over that eye in a bar fight lol

• favorite bands are MARINA and Studio Killers

• dosen't like wearing clothes lmao they kinda feel like they're above that so Judith has to convince them to wear at least a shirt. It's a good day if she can get Cream to wear a dress at least

• hasn't been it the mortal realm since the 16th century, so it has been a difficult adjustment for them

• when the story takes place, Cream unknowingly has a great (x20) granddaughter roaming around. It doesn't have any importance to the story, tho

CRACKS MY KNUCKLES. hmc is such a Classic nonnie so i had to do a bit of thinking to get it right (well.... to get it right in my head. but i feel everyone here is familiar enough with my particular kind of rainduoisms by now) but i think the outcome is a fun one :] i'm just gonna put my thoughts into bullet points

now originally i wasn't sure who should be who (oh my little bottle blonde anarchist......) but i did decide to put wil in a howl ish role and niki in a sophie ish role on the basis of how hard howl weaves narratives around himself and how hard sophie does not GAF. that element of them stood out so much that i was like okay cool that's how we'll do it

so niki is doing something semi unfortunate with her life. NOT baking that's for sure. holding onto an empty shop for a long-gone (not that she admits that bit to herself) old friend, and she's quite lonely. and then after crossing paths briefly with the local dipshit wizard she gets cursed by a snooty ass witch of the waste (idk who this would be.... open to suggestions i suppose)

and wilbur is the least competent wizard ever :] why bother to stay in wizard school when you could mix your own potions and refuse any and all help out of pride and trade your heart away to a fire demon for some companionship?

(i'm taking this as another opportunity to spruik albatross wilbur btw i know the wings aren't as striking as sleek crow-black but - )

the fire demon in question is fundy, who sort of came into existence as a being with a personality and such after falling from the sky and receiving wilbur's heart. wilbur smothers him too much. there's not many other people he keeps around to smother. fundy wants out honestly

(oh and it's not super relevant but i think tommy is markl hehe)

so niki marches off to track down the wizard who she overheard the witch mentioned and... starts baking in his kitchen. okay a rainduo thing is being almost too familiar with each other let's be honest. but yes i think they latch onto each other quite quickly. niki is at first just looking to have her curse cured but being old and hanging out in the house with people who actually seem to give a shit about her is freeing in a way, no more getting tangled up in the politics of her small town as it lunges towards involvement in the war, etc. wilbur thinks she's fascinating.

as for the broader "what's happening in the world" perspective i was thinking it was something along the lines of the antarctic empire being at war with another power, drawing all of these small towns and microcountries along with it.... wilbur is supposed to go home to his family but he doesn't want to because he's afraid of facing the trail of small, easily destroyed countries left in his wake, he doesn't want to deal with phil's questions or the scrutiny that he expects from phil. instead, he tries to sabotage the war effort on his own from the frontline

so he keeps receiving letters from phil, but he can't bear to face him. solution? uh.... get niki to go lol. it's even on the grounds of a small country wilbur once ruled (niki had to squeeze this information out of him like a sponge, and she only heard an inkling of it thanks to fundy), now called manberg, which ceded to the empire in the war.............

surprise! it was actually schlatt trying to pull Some Bullshit as a revenge trick. he roasts the other witch and then almost sinks wilbur and niki into the Void but despite his tendency towards problem avoidance, wilbur steps in to defend niki and they just barely make it away. that being said, niki has learned a lot about her new friend through this adventure that he has not been willing to divulge himself, and it stings. why does he shut her out?

also notable: wilbur gives niki a ring inset with three diamonds to help her find her way home

the atmosphere in the castle is not fantastic after that, all their fun little memories bitter now. wilbur swings between talking freely about ripping the armies apart with his bare hands (claws? talons? that secret is out and he keeps evading all of niki's questions with nervous laughter and quips about monsters) and saying absolutely nothing at all. his suicidal tendencies are the elephant in the room that basically everyone else refuses to talk about, except his own too-grandiose and vague comments on the subject.

niki tries not to stew over feeling excluded. the lonelier she feels, the worse her curse gets.

wilbur takes her to a flower field, blooms rolling long into the horizon, and for a moment she thinks they might be fixing things. (she's so wrong)

through a series of mishaps (perhaps a visit from one of niki's friends..... i feel bad doing eret dirty like that though lmfao) henchmen start breaking into the house just as bombs fall upon the city. niki is put into overdrive to keep the castle from falling apart as the city burns around them. wilbur, who is already doing extremely too much flying around and causing problems in the midst of bombs dropping decides to go exacerbate the issue in an attempt to go out in a blaze of glory. unfortunately for him niki, fundy and tommy are all stubborn sons of bitches who will be extremely pissed if he fucking dies, so we pick up the castle and start moving

okay yeah i kind of think the rest of the story plays out not too differently from the movie? niki gets split up from her friends when the castle breaks down and attempts to kick a dent into a mountain when she realises she's alone again. unable to find wilbur himself, with the last bit of power from the diamonds he gave her she finds the doorway into his memories and sees the moment he and fundy met..... they were both very lonely. very sad. she shrieks out to both of them to look for her in the future

she stumbles out of the memory and finds a pile of feathers wilbur and woooo forehead kisses and wooooooo niki finds fundy again and puts wilbur's heart back even if it means they both might leave her again. BUT THEY DON'T even if they're not all in the castle 24/7 niki now has a few nice friends and is so submerged in that feeling that she doesn't even notice the curse breaking.

and the war ends!! and maybe they even talk about their hurts!! the hurts they carry and how they hurt each other!! and they keep on living!! and they all live best friendily ever after <3

Here's a random loredump for Max since I like her and she's my oldest oc(8 years of this bitch)

Max is the product of a fancy affair between the guardians of heaven n hell, which were an angel and demon respectively. Big man upstairs saw that the angel was pregnant and was like "ok I'll let you keep the kid but after their first birthday that abomination is going to a nanny for the rest of their life. Also they're gonna be mortal until they manifest wings"

So Max is born and after her first birthday (I've decided its june 21st) she's cast to earth in front of an old lady's house. The old lady, who's name is May, finds her and takes her in and takes care of her. Max also has an adopted brother named Tony who she met at school one day and never really detached from.

So anyway years pass and Max is like 13 now and in middle school, she's doing great and is in the lunchroom with Tony until she feels an aching pain in her head and back, and after a long walk to the nurse with Tony she falls to the floor and sprouts horns on her head and wings on her back. Tony is mortified but helps her anyway cause btw she fucking passed out

She goes to the hospital and the doctors find she's healthy she just randomly has wings and horns now

Anyway another year passes, Max and Tony are in highschool, and everything is going great until shots ring out in the hallway and Tony falls to the floor dead and Max runs, but the shooter grabs one of her wings and tugs, ripping it off of her back. She shrieks and falls, the shooter runs away when the police get there and Max and Tony are escorted to another hospital

Tony is declared dear, Max is full on traumatized and drops out of school, May isn't happy about her son dying and blames Max and kicks her out, and Max wanders the city for a while

Timeskip about 7 years, Max is 20 now and applied to be in the military for free housing and healthcare. She's a soldier for two years until during training she was accidentally shot in the eye and blinded temporarily. Another trip to the hospital, somehow she isn't blind but now her eye is red and yellow now? Also a priest visits her hospital room and tries to exorcise her but instead Max ends up punching the guy and kills him. She flees the city entirely to avoid punishment and she's homeless for another 4 years.

Now shes 26, she finds an application to be an assassin for hire and after seeing that the pay is $100+ per job, she applies and gets accepted. By this point she is stoic and doesn't gaf abt who she kills unless it's children and priests

Anyway she kills for a while, gets good money and an apartment, and then she has to tutor a new hire, Malice, who is a succubus.

Weston and notes

this is my new horror guy for Huddled Inn. why did i do so much. well it's kind of just that i felt that i had to do something before shit wore off. the reason why i don't have a lot for certain OCs even though i love them very much is that highs wear off so i'm trying to get more motivated to draw OCs by doing more for OCs i don't care for too much but are very entertaining and fun to write/draw about.

this is what Weston used to look like before btw so i'm not going to draw this form often. i will have notes and other concept artwork after a cut. (TW: CANNIBALISM AND MURDER AND TORTURE)

backstory (copied directly off my Twitter)

weston was a bartender in huddled inn that got fired because he had an argument with his ex-gf while working.

he got so fucking mad he killed his ex in her apartment. then in a fit of adrenaline he grilled her and ate her. normal human behaviour

then he began to panic about being caught. so he decided to get a rusty cursed book and summon an eldritch god to give him special powers

the special powers were eternal life without aging (additional info: he was and still is 32) and the ability to control sounds. as in. he can shoot and kill a man entirely silently. and more .

so. lots of killing and eating people at huddled inn. he would disguise as a bartender-still-working and poison a bunch of people's drinks and then take the bodies from the hotel rooms for grilling and eating.

ok. probably not just at huddled inn but various places. but yeah. weston was very happy because he killed, grilled, and ate a lot. he was very arrogant. killing, grilling, and eating was, to him, a way he can get revenge on society for giving him consequences he didn't like

eventually he became some kind of urban legend which only fuelled his ego since he was not getting caught. he was, in fact, a very tactical and smart person at that time, too.

he kept coming to huddled inn in particular because he was very mad about being fired, btw

so, success for weston ig until other supernatural entities came to huddled inn. Phutredhaz in particular

basically. one night. weston drugged, killed, grilled, and ate a guy who he thought was just any other guy. a little eccentric and weird on the fashion, perhaps. well. either way. that guy was a member of phutredhaz's basement kinda-cult-but-not-really so She got really angry

She came and discovered weston 's weird abilities, so Her first decision was to order weston to start getting a lotta fresh rats for Her to atone for his behaviour. he, the arrogant fuck he is, however, decides to try and kill Phutredhaz instead. so She sends him to hell LMFAO

Weston thought he was invincible so shouldn't technically be able to be sent to HELL. but then it was "well you're not technically dead She's just letting you stay here to suffer for. uh. a year." so he does suffer! and it was kind of bad! and then he returns and what does he do

Weston tries to take revenge. so Phutredhaz sends him to hell again. this time it's for 10 years.

After Weston returns he tries to do the "revenge by killing, grilling, and eating" again on a fucking demon and gets sent to hell one last time for 20 years

when he returns he finally decides not to try again because he is now officially Scared. what does Phutredhaz feel about this? nothing. She doesn't gaf. She forgot about him. Her kinda-cult-maybe-not-really was dying so She had way more important things to worry about

So. After 31 years of all that hell-time (and especially hunger for sweet vengeance in the form of human flesh), Weston. Weston got dumb. Hell-time accelerated the development of the seal that was already in him when he first made the deal.

He forgot how to serve beverages. He forgot how to cook, and thereby the "grilling" part was gone. He forgot that to properly kill and get away he shouldn't yell while not using his noise-powers-thingy just so he could taunt his victims.

now that i think about this part this is actually kind of terrifying. either way. hellfire burned (parts of) his hair off. he eats raw flesh now. he does not know about the internet or (much) about michael jackson. he also forgot about places outside of huddled inn, so he kind of starves

he does have. another guy around at the bar. more on her later. anyways i find it still pretty fun to write a kind of comedic horror villain that does not really care about any living human other than himself

fights coelacanth demon, wins by kissing it

the coelacanth demon turns into ruby, and chika still attacks her anyway. because she has to kill the demon. it's necessary to become a school idol

Honest opinions hour:

Mk9 was actually fan service done well. Minus the shit with shang tsung and sindel,raiden bargaining with a fucking bald ass demon that is quan chi. And kung lao dying and being treated like shit. And liu kang being an arrogant asshole that never gets called out in the narrative outside of towers. But we all should FUCKING KNOW! that tower endings aren't canon! They are best case scenario in favor of the character YOU PICKED. that's the point of towers. (And the fact that nrs got rid of towers said to me they dont give a fuck about their fans. AT ALL. And people are too stupid to see just how fucked up and really bad that is for the game. That's how you know mk has been commercialized. Next they gonna get rid of the violence or blood too,watch as they fuck up so badly. And make it legitimately an official knockoff cheap sanitized version. Ugh gross. Watch as people legitimately dont care and when all the hype goes away....they are left with nothing and nobody. Y'all first clue should have been when they made kuai scorpion. Anyways. Mk11 was mid. Not the best. Not the worst. But mid. But now? It's a masterpiece compared to the shitshow that is mk12,aka mk1 2023.

Raiden isn't fucking emotionless. He cares about mortals,and especially his mortals that fight under him and his brother fujin. Raiden is the most human out of all the gods. And yes,he's a god. Not a chump farmer,not a fucking "dEmiGoD" naw. A full blown,non gmo,grade A,can of whoop ass,bonafide,thunder god! Fight me on that! Also raiden has responsibilities but he's sassy and loving. Like your dad figure. He's dad shaped. He's understaffed,underpaid,underappreciated,mortals sometimes take his ass for granted(unfortunately). Again raiden is a sweetheart,no pushover,but not a complete dick. No more than anyone else could be.

Speaking of his brother fujin. Fujin is not some uwu,uke boy. He's not some dude that is helpless. He's ferocious,he's deadly. Mischievous,impish,and not someone you should take lightly. He's not the "nicer" of the storm gods. He's just much as a full can of whoops ass as his brother. If not more so. The only difference between fujin n raiden is raiden has years and eons of fucking restraint and mastery. Fujin dont(or he just dont bother to). Raiden is a guaranteed death if you push him. I think early badge sellers disregard prone attitude stems largely from them not viewing people as potentially relatable. when snatcher befriends them and they(badge) initiate a romantic relationship (one neither of them were largely confident in) theyre completely unaware of snatchers specific demons and believes she keeps silent on stuff precisely because she doesn't have anything to say for her actions.

snatcher doesnt tell stuff for a lot of reasons but I think 1 of them is that he seeked any sort of comprehensive support from them, just interaction and affection. no info about their princehood or death for years, and definitely none about its thing with containing vanessas blizzard. it's probably cc who urges badge to show more concern and encourage snatcher to u bottle stuff

once learning about its stuff badge probably gets a lot nicer to them, initiates affection more often, is somewhat concerned but probably not overwhelmed as theyre still largely uninvolved. snatcher notices and probably gets pissed off by that change in attitude and deems it hypocritical. they probably talk (or snatcher might hiss) over stuff. badge finds out the way they relate to the world is sort of ridiculously similar to snatcher. recognizes their and snatchers chronic outsider status, recognizes potential for fostering of comfort and safety between them. still definitely not an "endgame" thing though, they break up and get back together a ton. also take breaks. they don't gaf abt continuity and stability

snatcher also gets pissed off at badge for getting nicer because he views being seemingly respected and considered a threat because it implies he is a real person and an equal in the given relationship, meaning he can meaningfully get hurt. and vice versa

Half the time I don't believe cat haters as described in this post really hate cats. Not in the, oh they secretly like them/would grow to like them. No. Most of the time they just hate that you're happy with your ownership of a cat and find it some deep flaw that you somehow don't gaf that an animal, when starving, would eat the easiest food source available (your body). They hate people's happiness that they feel doesn't align with what they think it should be.

Its why "cat haters" always try and paint your cat as evil or demonic for having a personality. They hate that you are able to love something so misunderstood. They want to break your happiness and/or invalidate your fondness for your pet.

And lets be real, most of the time cat hate is directed towards women who own cats. Men who own cats are usually praised and exhaulted for being 'such a good kitty dad'. I rarely ever see people telling men their cat would eat their face or that it doesn't really love them and just sees them as a slave that feeds and cleans its shit. Ex. that comes to mind is that one mans twitter thread about finding and adopting a mom and her kittens- no one told him the feral cat and her demonspawn would eat his face or that they'll never love him. Those kinds of comments are almost exclusively reserved for women who own and adore cats. People (read: mostly men) just hate womens happiness, and even more so when they're happy with something that they don't think is acceptable/normal (ex: a dog, a bf). They take glee in telling women something that means a lot to them doesn't love them back and secretly hates them. It always comes off as them trying so hard to take away or delegitimize what makes women happy.

People that “hate” dogs: yea i think dogs are cute and all but you gotta train them. Not everyone should get to own a massive dog known for being high energy if theyre not willing to take care of it and train it. You have to actually put your dog on a leash stop letting your big ass dog run around unsupervised. Its annoying when you go over to someones house and they have a dog and youre just expected to deal with the constant owner yelling at the dog to get down/behave, dog barking, scratching and “play” biting, etc.

Cat haters: cats are incapable of love and affection they are evil you know they would eat your dead body if you died did yuo know that cats are fucking evil theyre such assholes

okay, to start with, this is actually really helpful advice, and made me realise that I wanted her to be sympathetic mainly bc she used to be the main character, but then I had a slight falling out with my cowriter and lost interest in this character. I wanted to keep her sympathetic in accordance with the general idea of my ex-cowriter and seems like...that's no longer gonna work for me.

2) I forgot to mention that a lot of her actions take place while she's being, literally, possessed by a demon/evil forest spirit– but they're not exactly ooc for her, which is why most characters fail to realise something sketchy is going on. her (then) boyfriend realises by some mix of guesswork and sheer blind faith in humanity.

3) you're right, this couple isn't endgame, and they were never meant to be. he ends up with her cousin brother. lol

4) redemption arcs are fun. totally gonna do that

5) the parts of her behaviour that can't be explained by possession are mostly explained by the fact that she has anxiety. the kind of anxiety that makes you, to put it simply, act like a dick. and it has other symptoms, ofc, and that isn't the main one but it's definitely there and her (like 4) siblings/cousins are all used to it. and quite frankly

6) in room full of sketchy, morally gray-or-at- least-off-white characters who don't really gaf about anything other than their own goals...she doesn't really stand out. I have ten protagonists (deuteragonists...?) and only two (2) of them have a working moral compass. basically, they're all fucked.

7) her boyfriend, Felix, does have ppl who care about him. mainly his sister, who is ready and willing to fiGHT if you so much as touch a hair on his head. unfortunately for everybody involved, he self harms and engages in emotionally abusive behaviour towards himself. he's not really going to let ppl protect him if he doesn't feel like he deserves it.

hi! so, I have a character who a) has anxiety b) is not a pov character c) does extremely sketchy and morally gray things like out her boyfriend as bisexual to his (mildly homophobic) favourite professor. I'm trying to figure out how to keep her sympathetic bc a) her twin brother, who is a pov character, does not know her really well it like her too much b) her other brother, who does know her and like her, usually just days a lot of vaguely positive things about her but I can't get that to 1/2

2/2 translate into her behaviour c) the other character who advocates for her is her boyfriend, who she outed, and he’s a fucking softie who nobody listens to anyway, they’re all, what does he know, bitch trusts everybody, which is accurate but, also, y'know, useless to me. q) how do I make a morally gray non-pov protagonist somebody readers are gonna root for even if they don’t like her (forgive typos, I’m sending this from my phone)

Here’s the cold hard truth: You may never be able to make her sympathetic to all readers, especially lgbt+ readers who have dealt with similar situations. 

You can still try all the tips in this post, but you might want to consider one of these other options instead:

1. Let her actions be an accident. We all make mistakes. There’s a huge difference between outing someone on purpose, and slipping up because you’re nervous and rambling and are used to talking with people who your closeted friend is already out to. One is a complete disrespect of trust while the other is a harmful but still easily forgivable mistake.

2. Don’t bother making her sympathetic at all. You’re allowed to have characters that readers (and your pov characters) don’t like. Rooting against a character can be just as engaging as rooting for them. 

3. Give her a redemption arc. Even if she doesn’t start out sympathetic, there’s nothing keeping you from having her change her ways. 

4. Set her against someone your readers will hate more. This is very tricky to pull off, I’m not going to lie, but if you can make her actions work against someone (or something) your readers really hate, they’ll root for her even if they don’t like her as a person. 

5. Make her such an interesting, unique character that readers want more of her even if she’s despicable. Again, this is very difficult to actively make work, but people often love even the most morally awful character as long as that character is fun to read about. 

6. Don’t have her be morally grey in that way. This specifically means staying away from anything that readers, especially minorities, might have experienced in real life. Readers will forever forgiven an otherwise sympathetic character who murders people, because they can distance themselves from the action, but the first time a character hurts someone in a way the readers has been badly hurt themselves, they may very well lose all love for that character indefinitely. 

Additionally, as you seem to have figured out already, having other characters talk about how awesome your morally grey character is will only ever sway the readers who have no critical bone in their body. You have to back talk with action.

You might also want to examine why this character’s boyfriend stays with her despite her doing unhealthy (and potentially very harmful) things, like outing him, and how their relationship will be perceived by readers who’ve been hurt when people they thought they could trust outed them too. If this relationship is meant to be end game, is this going to be portrayed as healthy? Will the morally grey character change at all? Do the other people in her boyfriend’s life realize his trusting nature is being taken advantage of, and try to intervene? 

In the end, it’s all down to how much of the story you’re willing to adjust, and how important it is for this character to be sympathetic. For the better of the story, sometimes we have to give up something we really liked. (And sometimes we have sudden epiphanies that make it so we don’t have to give up anything at all. Maybe if you keep looking you’ll find some options I haven’t even mentioned here? You never know.)
