Happy QPR Day of Visibility to all who celebrate! 🖤🩶🤍🩷💛 This is my partner and I's first year taking part. We spent multiple years trying to find Names for what we have, from friends to best friends to muses to platonic soulmates to family, we kept alternating titles and....none of them felt "wrong" but none of them felt, Complete either. We chose not to pay it much mind, if linguistics wasn't up to what we had so be it. Skill Issue, L English, "secret third thing" as you might say etc. We kept going, planning our future together, a shared home, a shared life, cooking for each other in rotations, going on silly adventures on the weekends, taking care of each other when sick, healing and growing side by side, etc. It's a future we have both been wanting and dreaming about for nearly two years now, basically ever since the first time I stayed a week with them. More recently we came across the definition of a QPR and realized it fit us, really well. We are both aroace, our relationship is neither sexual nor romantic. It's very firmly platonic. But it's also a relationship that has "outgrown" a ""standard"" friendship. We emotionally prioritize one another, spend every moment we can together, move through life as a team, we make big decisions as a pair, enjoy platonic physical intimacy, want to build a future and grow old together, and feel we are two parts of the Same Heart. I carry them in my soul everywhere I go and vice versa. being able to say "My Partner" in a QPR way feels SO nice and so Right and it makes me so happy [and I know they feel the same!] we have both been so looking forward to getting to celebrate each other and our bond today, And we can't wait for many many more!

I keep thinking about this blind item Deuxmoi published in their June 16 newsletter. Later on when someone asked if it was about N and L they said they didn’t even realize, which I find weird. Now, I think we all know blind items can be sent by anyone on any topic and don’t have to reflect the truth at all. And I definitely don’t believe gossip that I see on DM without a credible source confirming.

So this is probably some troll’s doing and I’m not even going to talk about the N being married part lol. Nothing worth mentioning, actually. But still it resurfaced some thoughts I had.

I truly think N and L loves each other deeply, I don’t believe even the greatest actors could keep playing their characters for months and appear that convincing. Nor do I think they are disingenuous people who will simply fake a friendship for the sake of promo. I’m very confused about the nature of their relationship and whether it’s romantic or platonic, I think even they themselves might be confused on this part, but there is love regardless.

However I cannot help but think L is trying to distance himself from N, at least publicly. I cannot think of any other explanation for the pap pics just a couple of hours after the London premiere. I do not know if it was really him/his team who arranged those pics but if it was them, I think it’s only natural to take it as a “enough with the shipping, I have a gf” slap on fans’ faces. Like, couldn’t you wait for a week maybe?

I saw this being mentioned on some blog here but when you check his insta profile you could hardly tell he was the lead of Bton and co-star of Nic, and mind you it’s only been 3 weeks since part 2 was released. Of course he doesn’t have to share anything but it feels weird him posting his solo endeavors and not the project he put so much effort and time into.

Combined with those pap pics it seems like he is really trying to distance himself from N. But it’s not like there is bad blood between them or anything, we kept seeing them being comfortable and cute around each other until June 12, hours before the premiere. He even mentioned her name in a very silly & sweet manner on Jimmy Fallon. So, what’s the deal?

I think it must be very frustrating to have people read so much into every step you take, so I could understand him in a way. Nobody knows anything about their lives and relationship, we all just speculate and seeing those speculations must be annoying for them. But wouldn’t a simple insta post on how N is his good friend and “buddy” and another post with his gf appear a lot more genuine if shipping is the problem here?

I don’t know. This is my first time doing this with actors and I’ve been in this space for only a month or so, so these are all new to me. I truly believed they were each other’s soulmates and it was enchanting to witness whatever it was going on between them. And if they are just good friends that’s perfect too, I mean how many of us have that kind of connection or chemistry with our “friends”? Good for them!

But sensing his efforts of disassociating his public image from Bton and Nic just breaks my heart. That said, I am officially getting off the ship. I’m leaving the restaurant. My tiny heart cannot take it anymore. Also, it feels disrespectful to L to keep shipping them when it’s clear he doesn’t want that for some reason.

I will love and support both of them separately but I’ll TRY not to post any content about their possible romance. While I cannot promise that I’ll remain faithful to my decision I’ll try my best.

listen i like your headcanons and your fanfics and theories and all but platonic soulmates do not look at each other like they wanna fuck so bad not being able to feels like starving and they do not get their heartbeat so fast when they hug that they need to press a hand to their chest as if to try and calm it down and they most definitely DO NOT stare at each other's lips and lick their own. i believe me and my best friend are platonic soulmates and we love each other and we kissed one time when we were teens and it felt wrong and we have intimacy and we can nap in the same bed and cuddle and tell each other anything but we both agree that there are no romantic or sexual feelings between us at ALL even tho we both think of the other as beautiful and amazing. we have a different kind of chemestry. platinic isn't just a word it has a meaning. when my best friend fell in love i was happy for her. she was happy for me when i did. and yes there is in the beginning that little bit of silly young jealousy of "that's MY best friend" but it's most certainly NOT like that.

this is actually a great question and i would absolutely love to know your own other ships vs darvey, bc darvey is so different from so many of my ships!!!

i will say that joyce x hopper from stranger things is probably the only ship i have that even comes close to having any similarities to donna and harvey because of that sense of shared history, partnership, and platonic support leading into romantic support. but for the rest of my ships, it's like so opposite.

one of my main ships that is one of my most tagged ships on my blog is Julie and Luke from the netflix series Julie and the Phantoms!!! this series devastatingly only got ONE SEASON but had a huge following on tumblr. compared to donna and harvey's nine seasons and canonical 13 years of buildup, that inherently makes the ships very different, because Julie and Luke do not become "canon" (although mutual romantic feelings are made pretty darn clear). Julie and Luke have history together in an offhanded way - Luke is a ghost, and when he was 17, he actually met a young Julie's mom before she had Julie, and then he died, got trapped in purgatory(?) for 25 yrs, and then was brought back into the world as a ghost where he met Julie (after her own mom had passed away). This has resulted in a LOT of theories regarding them being soulmates - their characters mirror each other so well to the point that the colors of their costuming is often matching or inverted to each others clothing. They both have an undying love for music, mommy issues, and they fit together like two peas in a pod. Literally there's only one season of buildup, and there are over 3,000 works of fanfiction for them on ao3. Julie and Luke truly couldn't be more different lmao, because a lot of the magic that comes from them is a sense of destiny, inevitability, and their instant ability to be vulnerable with each other. With Donna and Harvey, the romance comes from the steadfast partnership and daily choice they make every day to choose each other.

Another big ship of mine is Anne and Gilbert from Anne with an E (or the whole Anne of Green Gables book series lol, but them in the AWAE tv adaptation is so good)!! They have a good amount of buildup and a sense of choosing each other, but the stakes are nowhere near as high as they are in Suits. Gilbert is so down bad for Anne the whole time. He's so the perfect man that I have a framed photo of him in my home. The TV show introduces us to their plotlines and character arcs as parallel tracks as they are finding their way through life and eventually meeting at the same place, whereas Donna and Harvey are definitely just on their own crazy journeys until they crash into each other and are finally in a place to be together. However, a very silly parallel that Anne/Gilbert has with Donna/Harvey is there is a sequence of Person B running to Person A when they realize that they're meant to be together. And Person A is a redhead.

Other ships I have are like Nina and Fabian from House of Anubis, or Zuko and Katara from ATLA. Also Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett from P&P. I think a lot of my ships involve the man blatantly worshipping the ground that the woman walks on and constantly being complimentary and admiring of her; where we get only crumbs of that kind of dynamic with Donna and Harvey. Harvey definitely thinks, and has stated as such, that Donna is the most amazing woman he's ever met, but because Donna and Harvey are not thee main plotline of the show or even arguably the main relationship (when compared to Mike and Rachel), there's a lot less room for there to be blatant moments where Harvey is like "wow she's amazing!!!" because he's just not that guy.

Steve and Dustin's relationship is so sweet and so important to their characters. They both found each other at a time when they were feeling lonely and didn't really have anyone else to turn to (Will was dealing with his trauma, Mike and El were nonstop making out, Max and Lucas were busy being girlfriend boyfriend. Steve didnt have his fake friends or Nancy in his life). Dustin became Steve's first real best friend before he met his platonic soulmate Robin, and Steve became Dustin's best friend when his other friends were off doing their own thing. They are both only children that haven't gotten to experience what it's like to have a sibling (not to mention that Dustin is the only member of the party who doesn't have a sibling). Despite their age difference, they both share advice and learn a lot from each other (Dustin talking about the clichés of high school and outgrowing that mentality. Steve helping him with girls and how to style himself). They both can recognize when the other is crushing on someone and try to be supportive (Steve when he notices Dustin crushing on Max, Dustin noticing Steve still has feelings for Nancy). Dustin helps Steve bring out his inner child, while also challenging him to be more responsible. Steve helps Dustin feel more confident and believes in him/tries to help him to the best of his ability. Steve is super protective of Dustin, and Dustin is always concerned about Steve's safety. Steve wants Dustin to still be able to experience being an innocent kid even with all the serious upside down stuff so he takes him to the movies and the arcade, gives him all the free ice cream, and doesn't mind being goofy with him (they even have a silly handshake!). Dustin even wants Steve to make more friends and tries to introduce him to Eddie. They argue and make fun of each other the way real siblings do, but they also look out for one another like brothers should. It's also cute how Steve not only takes on the role of a big brother for Dustin, but also can be considered a father figure for him since Dustin's dad isn't around. He basically looks up to Steve as an older male figure and this also makes Steve want to be a better version of himself (I know Nancy was responsible for getting him to start thinking this way, but I believe that Dustin most definitely made him want to continue on that path). My love for thier bond is endless and I hope they get a happy ending in season 5. Maybe Claudia can adopt Steve and they can officially be brothers.

He thought she was cute, dammit. He liked her long purple hair and soft pale skin. He also knew she was really lewd, but had long ago accepted that aspect of her too.

He really, really wished that when she thought about him, suddenly her world would flush pink; and then, they would do more than a few naughty things.

But...she had seen—was still seeing—much better men, right?

He missed her.

Each time, he told her to come back to him in the end, and that's what she planned, but for platonic attachments and reasons entirely different.

He thought that maybe they would forever live with the sweet memories of childhood and awkward photographs of adolesence. He thought that maybe they're not meant to take that old friendship to the next level.

1. feelings: ohhhhhhhh my god. he literally has been my favorite character of all time for the past year or so? i cant get him out of my brain 😭 i think hes such an incredibly tragic character that deserved so much better than the shitty hand he was dealt :( i feel ill about this freaking guy.

2. romantic pairings: main romantic ship is definitely him and mariana! at first they were the definition of a toxic, loveless marriage (still pretty much are LMAO) but i think, especially after their conversation in purgatory, they were genuinely really good together. like, them joking around and being really sweet was so, like, augghhhh 😭😭😭 but like. the toxic marriage was so fucking funny to watch 😭 i laughed so hard i started crying during the trial of juanaflippa LMAOO

2.5: another romantic pairing is him and cellbit because. dude. their conversation during the dia de los muertos stream was SOOOOOOOOOOO omg. it lives in my head rent free 😭 i think they would only serve to make each other SO MUCH WORSE and i am here for it (yeah cellbit is married but like. slime had a mega crush on that man theres no denying it, and me personally i think their relationship (romantic or not) is SOOOOOO fascinating, especially during slime’s code arc)

4. unpopular opinion: idk how unpopular this is but like. i wish purgatory never happened 😭 like it was SO MUCH FUN while it lasted, but the overall impact it had, especially on qslime, was DEFINITELY not worth it lmao. like, it completely shoved all of his lore and buildup out of the way in favor of the event, and then????? he wasnt ever told to log back on???????? (context xi: the admins on the qsmp handled a lot of lore for the players, and slime’s lore really started to pick up just before the purgatory event. when the event was over, multiple players were told to not log on for “lore”, but slime and one other guy (pol) were never let back onto the server 😭 like, they straight up forgot about him even though he was SUPPOSED to have made it out of purgatory) i dont really have much more to that. bolas was fun, wasnt worth my cubito never getting anymore lore tho

5. something i wish happened: i wish we got an ending… or closure……… or something………

because!!!!! like!!!!!!! his story was going SO WELL (in a pacing and interest sense, the character was SUFFERING lmao) and it was really coming together!!! the pacing and buildup were AMAZING and it really looked like it was going to reach its peak after purgatory!! but, alas. he was forgotten. and so was his lore. because we NEVER saw codeflippa again. or him. or his code infection. and im never going to be over it.

Okay, I gotta ask about your fic version of vampirism. What are major changes between your depiction and canon? what stayed the same? and what fun things did you add for pure self-indulgence and just cause you could.

What about the physical changes from Human to vampire? How do gifts work? (Idk if your vampires have gifts or not).

HOO BOY ALRIGHT LET'S DIG INTO THIS

most notably, vampires can consume a wide variety of beverages, including alcohol. i think i got into the "biology" of this in the fic itself, but basically their bodies just absorb liquids the same way they do blood, it's silly vampire magic, it doesn't matter

all of stephenie's stupid and racist skin bleaching stuff is gone, and they get to keep their freckles/tattoos/etc

in canon i think vamps can only get scarred from vamp bites? but i expanded that a little to include claw marks from other vamps + scars from werewolves (of both the shifter and lycanthrope variety, since my version of caius is covered in werewolf scars)

most of the stuff about how vampires work in general is the same as canon! they're nigh invincible crystalline monsters who sparkle and shimmer in the sun and crack like statues when they get hurt, and you can only kill them by tearing them apart and setting them on fire

HOWEVER my vampires are MUCH more monstrous than in canon. i think twilight vamps have the ability to be quite scary if they want, but in my fic i really wanted to play up the idea of them being mythical apex predators. as such, they have a sort of "aura" about them that the cullens are always actively repressing. it allows them to be both incredibly alluring but also unsettling, causing a "terrified but drawn in" effect in most humans - it's a red flag, but also a lure. bella is completely immune to it, which would be a terrible thing for her if she was in any other situation

following that up, vampires who let themselves stay in this "natural" state can tend to be a lot more animalistic, which is definitely something present in canon but i wanted to amp it up a little more. the vampires are very much inhuman and monstrous, and the cullens are putting in work every day to not appear that way

i've also given vampires a much more intense "soulmate connection" that's pretty much exactly the same as canon imprinting. this is just because i wanted my fic to be a twist on the typical soulmate trope where the concept of "love at first sight" is kind of terrifying and inconvenient! i really just played up hints of things that were already in canon, like the fact that denying the bond is... unpleasant for both parties

at the same time, i also wanted to emphasize platonic and familial relationships, so i included the idea that vampires can have more than one "soulmate" and will often have very strong non-romantic bonds with others (though these are less apparent to them at first). this is why the cullens are drawn to be a family, but also why bella and edward are such good friends! they're literally platonic soulmate besties. i love a brotp

i think another related thing i hinted at somewhere is that if a vampire has a human soulmate, that human will slowly begin to gain some vampiric traits (slow aging, increased strength, etc) no matter whether they're bitten or not. bonds are incredibly powerful things in my au, and they're capable of enacting physical change - albeit very slowly

there's also the idea of vampire science and experimentation, of course. most of it has to do with testing out the effects of venom on various types of beings in different states. this is how i wound up with things like ghouls, who are essentially just much weaker, feral vampires (almost like zombies). they, in turn, spread through a different kind of bite-induced infection that causes a rot, which is how bella ends up in her strange state of slow-turning undeath after she gets bitten by a ghoul and rosalie

turning and gifts are pretty much the same! the change takes 3 days under normal circumstances and it's super painful. gifts are accentuated traits from your human life (or amped up versions of proto-gifts, as in alice's case)

i think the last big difference is the idea that vampires are capable of growth and change (not physically, but mentally). if you read the fic, the characters will often talk about how they're incapable of changing due to their nature, but their actions throughout the story definitely contradict this! the vampires aren't perfect and they have issues they have to work through, and they sometimes use their nature as an excuse not to work on themselves - but they're absolutely capable of change

the tl;dr here is mostly that i wanted vampires to be able to drink, i wanted them to be a lot more monstrous, and i wanted there to be a little more mysterious magic at play! i think that the canon twilight vampires are pretty cool, but i also think that stephenie went to weird lengths to explain everything about them, and sometimes it's better to just be like "it's magic lol".

also you didn't ask but my werewolves are different as well! i've never found a good way to actually drop this in the fic yet, but the shapeshifter-type wolves are NOT a phenomenon exclusive to the quileute tribe. there are a bunch of other packs around the world! it's still a genetic thing that gets passed down through families, but it's widespread because in my lore it originated from twilight's other elusive werewolves, the children of the moon. essentially, it's a defense mechanism that evolved in some lycanthropes over time since it was beneficial for humans to be able to protect themselves against vampires. maybe some day i'll figure out how to write that into the fic itself lmao

Random DabiTwice headcannon for you- well actually it turned into just me ranting about how smart Hawks was befriending Jin of all league members(that's a reluctantly given compliment) and then into some Dabi character analysis really-

Anyway- I've seen that it's mostly agreed on that out of the two of them- Jin is the more protective and prone to jealously of the two. And while I partially agree with that– I also really don't?

Looking at Dabi's track record- he was constantly demanding and expecting Endeavour's attention and burnt down an entire forest because he never got any of that "love" and approval he wanted- these habits had already been enabled and encouraged earlier on in his life when Endeavour trained him and put that mantra of "you're the best" into his head until Touya inevitably got replaced.

Those habits, repressed or not- stuck with him. When he fights, he almost commands attention from the person he's fighting with flashy, powerful attacks that have people floored and shocked– he hasn't stopped wanting to wow people with his amazing and powerful quirk- if him and Jin were to be together it'd definitely affect their relationship, Dabi getting comfortable means he won't bother hiding his bad habits because he wants to make sure he's still loveable despite them

So when- say, Hawks came into the picture- and he got all friendly with Jin and they bonded- that must have really bothered Dabi, because Jin's attention was on someone faster- maybe stronger than Dabi knew he was, and we know Dabi didn't trust him from day one on top of that- watching him talk up Jin and weasel his way into Jin's life was probably not easy for him. I'd say he got really really upset about it and took it out of potential recruits, a stray hero or two- anyone he could roast

Toga probably felt similar for a while- Jin and Toga are the definition of platonic soulmates- her and Dabi were probably equally unhappy with Jin and Hawks's blossoming friendship- fake or not, it definitely proved as great leverage as Hawks could now use Jin as a means of getting into the heads of two pretty serious threats to Japan and not have to lift a finger or feather. Its a lot of power to hold–

Stretching the idea of this even further- Shigiraki and Jim grew close during the fight with ReDestero. Shigiraki and Hawks know well Jin's potential threat and Shigiraki- despite being asleep om a mountain- wanted to make sure that Jin's a piece he could use. Hawks is a threat to that- so if he were awake, he'd be pretty upset with it all, too.

Honestly if Kurogiri hadn't been arrested, it wouldn't have worked in Hawks's favour. Kurogiri can smell a snitch a mile away and would've absolutely fucked the entire operation up, Spinner and Compress I do love but they had their own things going on- Spinner was determined to do right by Shigiraki to the point he was blind to all else, and Compress was probably the closest thing to a "peacemaker" a guy like him could be-

The point of this is that DABI is the jealous one in their relationship, not Jin. Dabi can, has, and probably will burn a man because he laid a finger on Jin. I think it'd be cool if more people explored the fact that Dabi is Endeavour- a jealous, egotistical, possessive man- and maybe explore more on how Dabi handles those emotions without becoming the thing he hates

And I just want Jin to be a silly little man too- let him be comforted, he deserves it too :(

Was listening to invisible string and thought about how cute those fics are where there’s a little bit of string drawing people toward their soulmates, but then I thought about how funny it would be if Tony were colorblind or something and mis-identified the color of the string (different string colors mean different things), cue miscommunication and chaos

Ohhh I love this idea so much! I hope you don't mind if I eventually turn this into a longer story. I would've done it now, but I won't have the time to write for a while, and I at least wanted to get some ideas down because this idea is so, so amazing and I love it alksdjfklasdjf

Tony has three strings attached to him, and he has no idea what color they're supposed to be. He hopes that they're not actually grey because that would mean that all three of his soulmates have already died, but it's a little hard to tell when he can't compare them to anything else. Soulmate shades of green and red don't exist anywhere in nature, and mankind wouldn't violate the colors by using them for anything else, so for all Tony knows, his soulmates are long gone.

And then he meets Rhodey, whose string leads back to Tony as surely as the sun rises in the east. Rhodey grew up in an old-fashioned family, who taught him to never talk about the colors of his strings, and Tony was taught by Howard never to admit to his "weakness," so they co-exist for the first few months awkwardly dancing around each other. Then there's a party and there's a couple drinks and Tony is kissing Rhodey, who very politely takes him by the shoulders and physically moves him a couple steps away.

"You're great," Rhodey tells him the next morning when Tony has sobered up a bit, "but I've got a Red somewhere out there, and I'm waiting for them."

Well, guess that answers that question. And Tony happily settles into his life as Rhodey's platonic soulmate.

And then he meets Pepper, tied to him just like Rhodey is. She's such a spitfire that Tony can't help but fall in love with her a little, but she never shows any sort of interest in him at all outside of being her boss and friend, so he assumes that they're platonic soulmates too. Which is great! Pepper's so amazing that he'll take anything. But then things change after Iron Man, which is great too! So maybe he just had to prove himself as a good Red for Pepper. He gets it, he was kind of a mess when they first met, definitely not a good Red for anyone.

Except - he introduces Pepper as his Red to Natalie/Natasha, and Pepper gives him a funny look. She takes him aside afterward and tells him that she doesn't mind dating him while she waits for her Red to come along, but she doesn't want to be called his Red while she's waiting.

Which makes things awkward since Tony had just assumed that she was his Red.

When he finally meets his last soulmate, who he's assumed was dead since he never once felt any tugging on the string, he's convinced that Steve has to be his Red. But he and Steve just fight and fight and keep on fighting. They can't seem to agree on anything, let alone on the color of their strings. He wants to make things work with Steve - Steve is pretty amazing when they're not yelling at each other - but it just doesn't seem to work out. Tony assumes that the universe made a mistake, that he's one of the people who doesn't have a Red, and keeps on with his life, ignoring the way his heart hurts when he thinks about it.

But.

He overhears Steve and Natasha one night when he's coming up from the workshop - and Steve is talking about him. Talking about how Tony's his Red, but he doesn't know why they can't make it work. He keeps trying but everything comes out wrong and Tony takes it the wrong way and before he knows it, they're fighting.

And Tony's heart soars.

He bursts into the room before Steve has even finished his sentence and kisses him silly (and Steve is like Oh Boy I'm Kissing Tony!!!! (yes, with the four exclamation points)). It finally comes out that Tony has no idea what color his strings are, and Steve smiles at him and says, "Red. It reminds me of your Iron Man suit."

Tony kisses him again.

I had this written as kind of a heart to heart between her and a Travis but it really didn’t fit anywhere with the bulk of the first chapters. So I left it out.

“You know….” Travis said eyeing Sawyer over his menu “You make Pat nervous.”

“Huh?”

He rolled his eyes more dramatically than necessary and made a face at her “Stop. Just stop.”

“Trav we’re friends I-“

“Admitting it is the first step to a 12 step program. It’s just us now. Tell me the truth.”

“What truth?”

“Oh you guys.” He said with a wave of his hand “If we can all see how you feel about each other I’m not really sure why you guys yourselves can’t. It’s silly.”

“Nolan is my friend Trav.”

“Nolan is your soulmate you mean.”

“I never knew you were so sentimental.”

“I’m sentimental as fuck.”

Sawyer rolled her eyes and waved him off “Nolan is my best friend Trav. And besides he has never, not once shown any interest in me.”

“Or maybe he has and you just never noticed.”

Sawyer was quiet for a moment before she spoke “You know, in highschool there was a lot of speculation about us, but neither of us ever crossed the line. As far as dating went, I didn’t and Nolan kept that part of his life away from me really. I don’t think he feels that way about me.”

“Pat loves you.”

“He does, but loving someone and being in love with someone are two different things Trav.”

“Okay, your right, but can’t someone feel both of those?”

She opened her mouth and then closed it. He was right, and if she wasn’t so deadest that Nolan was her best friend and nothing more she might have entertained the idea. But knowing that he’d been there for most of her life and never alluded to any sort of romantics feelings countered that.

“I’m just saying. Don’t be so sure of Pat’s feelings unless it comes from Pat himself.”

Again this just didn’t fit anywhere. And it felt repetitive at that point because we all knew knew this information already.

Sawyer spent the rest of the afternoon thinking about what Travis had said.

She’d thought about it on the drive home, and while she cleaned, and folded laundry and now as she was getting ready for bed.

She’d gone over every aspect of her life with Nolan, wondering if she’d missed the signs or maybe misinterpreted them. The more she thought about things, the more she strayed question if Travis was on to something that she wasn’t.

She thought about high school, and how Nolan would blow off the guys on the team to hang with her, how he always wanted her at his games and how he was always quick to offer to drive her home or stay over. She’d always thought it was just a best friend things to do, but now she was wondering if it was more than that.

The idea that Nolan had been sending her signs for years hurt a little. Was she dumb? In denial? Afraid?

Definitely afraid. She’d lost a huge part of her life with the death of her sister, and the thought of losing Nolan had terrified her. That was the only reason she could come up with for why things stayed platonic.

But there was something else.

A memory that was there, but fuzzy. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was, but it was there floating around, like a foggy window she couldn’t see through. But it gave her the strangest feeling, like a large piece of this puzzle that was Nolan was missing.

She laid in bed and closed her eyes.

She’d begun to feel, feelings for Nolan that she shouldn’t have. This was the exact thing she was most afraid of, that she would catch feelings that weren’t reciprocated. The only thing she could do was bury them.

And that’s what she would do.

I genuinely forgot I wrote this part, and it makes me sad because I wish I had included it. Sometimes, because I have so much written I forget that I have certain parts. I was extremely unorganized, which I am working on so I have bits and pieces of writing everywhere.

“Hey Nolan, can I ask you something?”

Nolan was at Travis’s, who was in the shower, leaving him sitting in a comfortable silence with Nash.

“I guess.”

“You have feelings for Sawyer.”

Nolan swallowed thickly “That wasn’t a question.”

“Okay. Do you have feelings for Sawyer?”

“No.”

“Liar.”

Nolan glanced at her sideways to find her leaned forward into his space, eyes squinted. He leaned backwards, getting as far away from her as he could, two spots of pink appearing in his cheeks.

“So when are you gonna tell her?”

“Tell her what?” He asked, moving even further away from her. He took several deep breaths in an attempt to settle the blush on his face. Libby Sawyer and Joel would be arriving any minute, and then the other guys from the team for a get together.

“Oh please. I’ve known you long enough to know that she isn’t just your best friend. Travis might be dumb. But I’m not.”

He could hear the ruckus of people coming down the hall and swatted Nash away “Look can we just drop this.”

“For now.”

Sawyer herself came in the door behind Joel and Nolan looked at Nash.

“Your not gonna say anything to her are you?”

Nash swiveled her eyes back and forth and cracked an evil grin “Only if it comes up.” She bounced off the sofa as Nolan made to grab her.

“Nash!” He whispered harshly.

He followed her around the corner and came face to face with Sawyer, who looked up and smiled.

“Oh. Hey.” Nolan said giving her a small smile. He rubbed the back of his neck.

It was going to be a long afternoon.

Nolan rolled his eyes and tipped his head back, holding his hands up “Fuck. Alright fine. I’ll go.”

She smiled broadly at him and went back to her homework.

“But if my mom makes me cut my hair, it’s all your fault.”

“I think I can live with that.”

“So what’s up with that girl your always hanging around with?”

Chad, the new guy, seemed nice enough. He was friendly, and fit pretty much seamlessly into the team. He didn’t seem like the kind of guy to come in and stir up trouble, so his question caught Nolan off guard.

“What?”

“That girl. The hot one.”

The air in the locker room seemed to freeze as every head turned towards Nolan. He felt his cheeks heat up, and a scowl settle on his face. Chad turned around to look at the rest of the group and frowned.

“Is she your girlfriend or something?”

“She’s my best friend, and she’s off limits.”

“So she’s not your girlfriend?”

“No but I-“

“So I can ask her out?”

Chase was wide eyed, a nervous smile spread across his face as he looked between them.

“I-“ Nolan sputtered for a minute, scowl deepening. He barely knew the guy, but he wanted to punch him square in the face more than anything g at that moment “She’ll never say yes.”

“I can be pretty convincing.” Chad winked and turned back to his stall.

Nolan’s face felt like it was on fire, and he knew it was red. Heat was creeping down his neck and he was so irrationally angry he felt like he was going to explode. Chase bumped his shoulder and spoke lowly.

“Relax buddy. You know she’s not gonna say yes.”

“That’s not-“

“I know it’s not the point but think about it this way. He’ll ask, she’ll say no and then we can make fun of him forever for being a loser. This is a win win for everyone.”

Which is why Nolan found himself at her house hours later.

“Are you okay?” She asked as he walked past her and stood in the middle of her bedroom, hands in his pockets.

“Did the new guy ask you out today?”

She shook her head “No? Should I know what your talking about?”

“The new guy on my team. He said he was going to ask you out. Did he?”

“No he didn’t.”

“And when he does. Are you gonna say yes?”

“Do you want me to say no?”

“You would do that…just because I asked you…to?”

“If you really felt uncomfortable with it I would.”

“Why?”

“Because I care about you and your opinion, and if you don’t want me to go out with someone then I won’t.”

He was dumbfounded, and then sad. How many times had he held her back? How many times had he stopped her from moving forward because he didn’t want to see her date anyone? He couldn’t do it her whole life.

“You-you can if you want to, I have to go.” He brushed past her and left her house.

And the next day, when Chad came into practice with a sour look on his face and mumbled “She said no.” Nolan, though he still felt bad, couldn’t stop the smile from coming to his face.

Gala Night part 1. There was already a lot happening in those chapters that was more important then this exchange I felt.

“Are you sure I look alright?” Sawyer asked from the passenger seat. She looked uncomfortable and was looking at Nolan for approval.

“Would I lie to you?”

“Well that depends.”

“On what?”

“On if you thought the truth was going to hurt my feelings or not.”

He half turned and pursed his lips “Okay that’s true. But I’m not lying about this. You look amazing.” He said softly.

Sawyer smiled and looked out the window.

“Thanks for bringing me along.”

“Who else would I bring?”

“I figured you’d ask Travis or something.”

Nolan rolled his eyes but chuckled “He wishes. As tempting as that would be, he probably wouldn’t go with anyone except Nash.”

“What’s going on with them anyway?”

Nolan glanced at her, and when he didn’t say anything she continued “Come on. It’s obvious he has feelings for her. I haven’t even been here that long and I noticed.”

“Tell me something I don’t know. I think he’s just afraid maybe she doesn’t feel the same. And-“ Nolan chose his words carefully “And he doesn’t want to mess up a close friendship you know?”

“Hmmm. Maybe. But will he ever know if she feels the same if he doesn’t ask?”

“I guess you’re right. But maybe he’s too scared to risk things if she doesn’t.”

Sawyer didn’t say anything else for the remainder of the ride, and seemed preoccupied till he parked the car.

“Ready?” He asked shutting the engine off, and turning to her.

“What? Oh yeah. Ready.”

There was no confirmation between that and this sort, but I’ll add it for you guys to read.

“Woooooow.” Carter said walking around Sawyer in a slow circle “You look hot.”

She rolled her eyes but smiled “Really?”

“Yes. I’m surprised you guys even made it here.”

“Carter!” She scolded him, swatting his arm.

“Don’t ‘Carter’ me. You guys are sooo gonna bang.”

Sawyer felt her face get red and grabbed a glass of champagne off the tray of a passing waiter, and slugged it in one gulp.

“Gosh it’s hot in here.”

Sawyer was laying in bed thinking about the events of the evening. Travis was sleeping on her sofa in the next room, and Nolan was sleep next to her in bed. The only thing she could hear was his breathing and him moving occasionally.

She felt him jolt next to her and turn over in his sleep, and one large arm came to rest around her. She froze as she felt Nolan move closer to her, warm breath against her neck.

It would be so easy for her to roll over, face him and kiss him, but she was glued to the bed and felt like she couldn’t move or breathe. His hand was near her hip, fingers just barely brushing the sliver of skin where her shirt had ridden up.

Her feelings for Nolan were too large to ignore now, and she wondered if this was how Travis felt. He moved his hand eventually a while later, and she drifted off into a very uneasy sleep.

Sawyer turned to him from where she was sitting and painting her toenails “Depends on what it’s about.”

“Why didn’t we date in high school?”

She frowned “Because this wasn’t a thing then remember?”

“Oh wasn’t it?” He smiled a little and set his phone down “I mean I would’ve date you in a second.”

“So what stopped you?”

“I didn’t think you would’ve said yes. Things were complicated back then.”

“I would have.”

“You-what?”

She laughed and shook her head “Nolan. Wasn’t it obvious?”

“Not to me. I had no idea.”

“When you left to come here, it was the worst day of my life. And that night I went home and I cried myself to sleep, and I felt like you…I felt like you died or something. And I decided that I would bury my feelings because you would probably meet someone here and if I feel that way about you, it would crush me to see you with someone else.”

“That wouldn’t have happened anyways. I thought about you pretty much every single day I was here. And I talked about you all the time, so much in fact that Travis thought you were my imaginary friend.” He laughed “But I know what you mean. I felt that way too. Like the day I left Winnipeg you’d find someone.”

“Boys never bothered with me. You know that.”

“Yeah because I was there. But I was gone and I’m not going to lie I was really relieved when I came home and you were still single. I was gonna make a move that summer but….”

“But what?”

“I just couldn’t do it.”

“You dork.”

“I remember it so well.”

Nolan was sitting on a chair watching Sawyer talk with Jessie. They’d spent the day at the lake with their friends, and it was dark now, a large bonfire burned brightly against the black of the beach. She looked so good, her hair was hanging loose and she had sunburn across her shoulders but he couldn’t remember a time she looked better.

“Hey creepy take her picture it’ll last longer.” Chase said from his other side. Nolan didn’t look away though. Chase knew how he felt and he wasn’t embarrassed.

“Just tell her dude. For crying out loud she probably already knows.”

“Just tell her.” Nolan scoffed.

“Why not? She doesn’t have a boyfriend. I don’t even think she knows what boys are besides you.”

“She hasn’t dated anyone?”

“No man. If she’s not hanging out with Jessie she’s hanging out with me, and we spend 90% of the time talking about you.”

“Really?”

“Yes really. So you expect me to believe that she doesn’t feel the same way. I never said I was smart but I’m not dumb either. So tell me the truth. Did something happen between you guys before you left?”

Nolan wanted to tell him about the kiss. Both of them. But when he opened his mouth to speak nothing came out.

“I fucking KNEW it.”

Nolan rolled his eyes “There’s nothing to know. It was one kiss that’s it.”

“And you didn’t tell me? When?”

“The night before I left but it wasn’t a big thing-“

“Dude that’s a huge thing. I can’t believe you kissed her and I’m just finding out now. That’s the only time?”

Nolan looked at his hands “Yes….”

“It happened more than once?!?!”

“Shhhh!” Nolan said kicking at the leg of his chair “Yeah fine it happened more than once. Twice-well three times almost but I-“

“And that wasn’t a clue that she likes you? Not even a little one?”

“I guess. But she’s still my best friend and I don’t want to complicate things between us.

“Hate to break it to you buddy, but it’s already complicated.”

This was after the big fist fight. I forgot I wrote this and when I went to add it later I kind of felt like I didn’t need it, but now I wish I had put it in.

“Are you still mad?” Travis asked as she set down her stuff. He was standing awkwardly in her doorway unsure if he was welcome inside. Nash frowned.

“Yeah I am. But I’m not mad for me, I’m mad for Sawyer.”

“And you have-“

“I’m talking.” She said holding a hand up to silence him “You know I went through some real shit Travis. I was fucking cheated on, given an std and had my life pulled apart. I was replaced by girls just like that one. Do you have any idea how Sawyer feels right now? To know that while she was at home not dating because of Nolan, he was out here hooking up with girls?”

“But he didn’t know Nash. It’s not like he knew how she felt and did it anyway.”

“It doesn’t matter Travis. Sawyer didn’t date because of Nolan. Ask him yourself. He had every opportunity to move past being friends with her and chose not to. He was allowed to have girlfriends and hookups but gave her a hard time every time she got any male attention? How is that right?”

“Okay. Your right. It’s not right and he shouldn’t have done that. But that night with Sarah….” He trailed off and sat down heavily at the table “He was so messed up that night.”

“You were there?”

Travis nodded and tan a hand across the table “Yeah. It was one of the first times I’d really heard about Sawyer. He just really missed her and he was going through it and Sarah just happened to be there at the wrong time. He felt horrible Nash, and he made me promise not to tell anyone. I kind of just forgot about it.”

“How many others are there?”

“I don’t know honestly. Really I don’t. But that’s not my business.”

“Maybe not. But Sawyer is my friend, and she’s hurting.”

“Pat will fix it. He’s good at all that words and feeling shit. But are we okay?” He gestured between them.

“Yeah…We’re okay.”

He smiled widely and pushed the cheesecake at her “Good. Now crack that thing open.”

Again after the fist fight. I think this was supposed to go in Chapter 8-9, but I took it out.

“So how are things?” Nash asked Nolan from her spot of the recliner.

“Okay I guess. Not as good as before, but it’ll get there.”

“Well that’s to be expected Nolan and I think you know that.”

“I do. It was my fault I just. I don’t know why I did it.” He looked at his legs and sighed.

“Do you think maybe you did it to try and get over her? Maybe subconsciously you thought it you had sex with some random girl it could get her off your mind?”

“Maybe. I never dreamed we’d be here though. Like her and i together. I mean I dreamed about it but I never thought it would happen.”

“Why though? I mean we all say it from day 1. Why couldn’t you?”

“Because I just didn’t think she saw me that way.”

“That’s silly and also a lie so try again.”

“Because-because-“

“Because you were afraid to face your true feelings because your a guy, so you friend zoned yourself, there fixed that for you.”

He scowled at her “No.”

“Yes. Please I live with Travis Konecny. Don’t try and tell me about the friend zone. He was stuck there so long he started receiving mail.”

This would have been in Chapter 10, but tumblr was glitching and said the post was too long. So it had to go.

“Can I talk to you?” Nolan asked, beckoning Sawyer to sit next to him on the sofa.

She sat and frowned when he turned slowly to her “Is something wrong?”

“I just-I wanna make sure you still want this. Like us.”

“What? Why wouldn’t I?”

“Because I don’t know what’s gonna happen to me Sawyer. With my head, my career, my life basically. And if you wanna get out now then I wouldn’t blame you.”

She leaned away from him and scoffed “Are you kidding me? You really think that after all this time, this is gonna be the thing that sends me running?”

“I don’t think that at all, but I’m giving you the chance the get out if you want.”

“Well I don’t want, and I’m not going anywhere. This is all gonna be fine. We’re gonna figure out a cure and you’ll be back in no time. We’ve been through way too much together to throw it in now.”

“I just don’t wanna drag you down.”

“Drag me-? Nolan. Look at me.” She held one of his hands and leaned down to look him in the eyes “I love you. I’ve always loved you, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Especially not now, when you need me the most. If you recover and score 100 points a year for the rest of your career then I’ll love that. If you never play another game again, I’ll love that too. Because I love you. Not this sport, or the status or any of that. I loved you before you had this and I’ll love you long after.”

“And it doesn’t scare you? That I may never play again?”

“Of course. But if that happens then we’ll figure it out. Together.”

He sighed and leaned forward head coming to rest on her shoulder “Thank you. For everything.”

“Don’t thank me. That’s what Love is all about.”
