Prologue
Prince Felix, youngest son to his majesty King JYP, has fallen hopelessly in love with a mere peasant.
But which secrets are to be kept and shared to ensure their relationship's survival in this vicious world of scandals and loyal connections?

Forever its been like this. All three Princes have always had the freedom to walk wherever they please, making themselves well known in the kingdom. Of course none of this goes on without the watchful eye of the King.
King Jinyoung has feared for his sons safety umpteen times before. Worry burdens him on bringing them up in such a secretive world that comes with being a royal, especially without a mother.
Unfortunately each previous queen had contracted a life threatening disease after birthing one son. All resulting in death. Not one would grow up with the biological love of their real mother. Except Felix.
Prince Felix, JYP's youngest son has been lucky enough to be brought up with his mother, an accepting queen. She took in the two older Princes as if they were her own.
She'd overlook JYP's eldest son, Prince Jinyoung's fencing often even sparing with him. Each match has been tallyed against the old brick wall, the winner makes the new mark. Guards around the castle place bets and at the turning of each month all come to watch the Prince and his stepmother spar.
Prince Christopher, JYP's second son, also enjoys his time with the new queen, strolling through the garden, tending to the roses and wondering through the village below assisting the citizens when they can. Helping the farmers with their animals, bakers in their kitchens and other people around in their everyday lives. Each week, together, they'd chose the most beautiful blooming flowers to sit on the dining table. Both pure hearts of gold.
And then there's Felix. Little 4 year old Felix. Full of such innocence, joy and bubbly life, there was never a dull moment when he was around like having a playful puppy. Whenever he went on walks with his mum and older brother he'd always share smiles with everyone. Many times before his mother let him visit the kids at the daycare.
There only one person stood out to Felix. Han Jisung. From the first time Felix had seen him there he was always interested in the other boy. Jisung was so different from the others. He never played with a big group of kids, often alone. He'd read and make up stories so Felix found out by following him all day.
As time went by the two warmed up to each other. They'd sit side by side reading, make forts with wooden blocks and pillows, every toy spread out to hold kiddy sized balls in the comfort of their little safe zone.
The little prince would take the commoner boy by the hands and begin to dance. Jisung being ever so amazed that he was even friends with the prince in the first place. The slightly older kid would gawk in amazement at the stories Felix told. He knew he'd never actually get to attend any royal function being a measly peasant's son, but his freckled friend made everyday special for him as if they were equal and of the same.
With having two older brothers Felix loved having a friend other than them. Jisung just understood him along with the needs and wants of being a kid. Needing someone there to share treats with, to hold hands as to not get lost and a shoulder to cry on when things turned for the worst.
Just like all three princes need right now.
The fencing room was abandoned, the roses in the garden wilted to a colourless death and the young prince fell silent. Jinyoung had already retreated to his room from the all too familiar scene. Twice had he seen this, not again did he want to. All the pain and sorrow from the previous had hit him just as hard if not harder than this.
Chris slouched as the wondered to the garden clipping off what was left of the lifeless roses. A lack of effort and care sent the debris from the bush flying across the yard. He didn't care anymore. It was dead to him in both literal and symbolic sence.
JYP sat silent in his throne. A lone hand glossing over where once another more feminine one would lie on his shoulder in times of reassurance. Now servants came in to lift the chair to the king's right. Discard of it, or at least away with it for now.
Felix, however, never moved. He was there. The last one to touch her, to hold her, to look into her eyes and tell her he loved her. Unfortunately he was the last to say goodbye. As her hand had grown colder the boy rested his head against his mother's flesh. A tear had rolled down his cheek ever so slowly as he looked so desperately into her eyes before she whispered a quick and fleeting 'I love you', caressed his tear away and let go of what she had left.
The silk white sheets of the grand four poster bed the passing queen had layed became drenched with the salty tears of the youngest prince. Cries of pain echoed through the halls never halting for a second until suddenly they muffled a bit.
A hand just as small as Felix's had tapped his shoulder before he turned around and fell into the other's arms. Jisung was Felix's spotter, there to catch him when he fell. Especially when he needed to fall most, and hauled each other back up to march on the road to come. One without a queen, the other, his mother.

Immortal life was one of the main advantages of being an angel, even if you were the angel of death. Even though you saw death every day, people's lives still surprised you. You found it amusing to watch them, their decisions and actions that sooner or later led them to you. But for some reason this guy attracted your attention more than the others, although your meeting was not yet close. There was something in him that you had never felt in people before - purity. You sat on the balcony railing of the second floor, watching his filming go by. Every day he was busy with something new, music, dancing, filming. Such a busy life, you thought with a smile on your face.
“Park Jinyoung, this is for you. Have fun,” the man with a wide smile put a box of letters in front of him. He read each letter with a smile, but when he opened the next letter, the joy on his face gave way to fear. That's something interesting, you thought, jumping from the balcony railing to the ground.
You walked up to him and looked at the piece of paper on which was written “I love you.” Nice, so that’s what scares him, a confetion of love. You wanted to return to your “spectator’s seat,” but a familiar smell attracted your attention. The smell of blood - you knew it too well. Someone wrote a love letter with their blood. It's even symbolic, you thought smiling. Although judging by the expression on Jinyoung's face, it instilled horror in him, not romantic affection. Apparently for people to get a confession in love written in blood is not considered a romantic sign. You sat down in front of him on the ground, watching his reaction. The letter fell from his shaking hands, falling to the ground next to you. Even fear suits him, you thought, watching his handsome face. You smiled as he leaned forward to pick up the letter, and his face was an inch from yours. He stood up and went to the man who brought the box. After which they quickly left. Well, you sighed in disappointment, your show is over for today.

You turned around, finding yourself in the castle, people would call this place your home.
“Watched that alive soul again?” your mentor asked when you entered his office.
“Thanks to him, I make new discoveries for myself every day. Today’s discovery: love letter in blood does not show romantic affection,” you said as you sat down on the large chair next to his desk. He just rolled his eyes and continued reading his book.
“For thousands of years you weren’t interested in people, but now you spend every day in their world and all this because of one soul.”
“He’s quite a beautiful soul, he wouldn’t be any different from the angels here if he showed up here,” you grinned, thinking about Jinyoung’s face
“Are we still talking about the beauty of his soul or already about the beauty of the owner of this soul?” he raised an eyebrow at you, but you just smiled. "Be careful anyway"
“Are you telling the angel of death to be careful? That's funny" you laughed before leaving the office.

Thinking about Jinyoung, you moved to where his soul was. You leaned against the wall, watching him walk down the long corridor. Behind him was a girl in black clothes. "Park Jinyoung!" she screamed getting his attention. “You should belong only to me!” she took a knife out of her pocket, swinging at him. In surprise, he swayed back, losing his balance. You snap your fingers stopping time. You came closer. Turning Jinyoung's back to the girl, you stood between them. Snapping your fingers again, you returned the passage of time and Jinyoung smashed into your back. "What the heck!" He said, falling to the floor behind you. You looked at the girl who screamed and ran away. Lowering your head, you looked at the knife on your collarbone and took it out and threw it on the floor. “What just happened? Who you are?" Jinyoung stared at you, turning in your direction while still sitting on the floor. “Where is that girl with the knife? It seems like you weren’t in the corridor?” he continued asking questions while looking around. "Aren't you injured?" he asked looking at you with concern when he saw the knife on the floor.
You were amused by his behavior, and the fact that he was worried about you, although he himself almost went on a date with you. “You humanity are so funny,” you said, squatting down next to him. “You guys keep refusing and trying to take away what doesn’t even belong to you.” You picked up the knife and saw blood on it, most likely it was she who sent that bloody love letter.
“You speak like that as if you don’t belong to humanity,” he said, getting up from the floor
You laughed, putting the knife back on the floor. “Not really, although I had more humanity today than the owner of this knife,” you stood up and cursed under nose, remembered the rule that you can’t disappear in front of people. “Bye,” you said, heading towards exit.
"Wait, who are you?" he asked
You turned in his direction, meeting his gaze. “Consider me your gift from fate,” you said, going out onto the stairs. You moved to the roof. Sitting on the edge, watching as cars with flashing lights appeared after a while.
You followed Jinyoung, wondering how it would all end. You sat on the cabinet in the corner, watching Jinyoung. You rested your chin on your knee, dangling your other leg down as Jinyoung described the attack. “There was another girl there, it seems she was the one who saved me by pushing me aside. Although I can’t fully remember what exactly happened after the knife was swung at me.”
“Anyway, you're lucky. This girl has already been cited for stalking other celebrities. Her blood and prints on the knife prove that it was she who sent you those letters you were talking about,” said the man in uniform.
“Were there only one person prints on the knife?” Jinyoung asked
"Yes"
He looked at the knife that lay in front of him, “But she definitely took it in her hands,” he whispered barely audibly, looking at the knife in surprise.
“In any case, you can rest assured that this girl will soon be found and arrested. Just in case, there will be security near your house until she is caught."
“Okay, whatever you say,” Jinyoung sighed and looked towards where you were sitting. His eyes widened as he looked in your direction. You turned around and saw the clock behind you. You were wonder why he looks at clock like that. Either way, he's safe.
. . .
You traversed to the mentor's office.
“Have you to interfere in this person live, didn't you?” he slammed the table hard, glaring at you.
“He wasn’t on your list anyway, so what difference does it make whether I intervened or not. I didn’t save anyone from death, I just saved myself from a boring stay in the hospital."
“I hope you have a lot of fun filling out all of this,” he snapped his fingers and a tall stack of papers appeared in front of you. You opened your mouth, examining the stack. “Have fun,” he said as he left the office. You fell onto the table, grumbling and pounding your fists.
You lost count of which form you filled out. You traversed to the roof of the van, watching Jinyoung who was filming. He was like a breath of fresh air, you were even lucky that he looked in the direction where you were standing. You felt your mentor approaching the office, and you returned to the table again, filling out another form.
“Now I understand why people say 'boredom to death'. It's really so boring you could die" you laughed clapping your hands as your mentor appeared in front of you.
“Weirdo,” he said shaking his head, leaving the office.
You buried your face in the papers; it seemed like the stack never ended. After finishing half of it, you moved to Jinyoung. You found yourself in the middle of a road with a lot of cars on it. You slowly walked along the road past cars passing at speed, approaching the car in which Jinyoung was sitting. He leaned his head against the window and watched the passing cars as he stood waiting for the green light for his side. You returned to the office and gasped. It seems like there were fewer papers before your disappearance.
“Oh yes, I forgot to say” you heard the quiet laugh of the mentor who was returning to the office “Every time you leave, the stack will return to its original size” he smiled at you. You hit the table with force and all the papers scattered across the huge hall. The mentor just smiled and snapped his fingers and returned all the papers to the table. “You can continue,” he said, sitting down at his desk and picking up the book.
I wonder if angels can feel tired, you thought, almost finishing filling out the papers. You definitely felt something or was it just anger? So hard to figure out. “I’m done,” you smiled widely, placing the last piece of paper in that endless pile.
“Well done,” the mentor walked up to the table and took the papers and threw them into the fireplace. You stood up and stared at the fire that was consuming your efforts, or rather your suffering.
"What?" you turned to your mentor
“This is just a tool for punishment,” he pointed to the paper burning in the fireplace, “The main punishment for you is to force you to sit in one place.”
You fell back into the chair, propping your feet up on the table. “Unbelievable,” you muttered, crossing your arms over your chest.
The mentor smiled and left the office. Before you could shout anything back at him, you fell through the chair and the floor. Great, another punishment, you thought, falling down through the darkness.
You found yourself on the table in a strange place, in front of an unfamiliar man. What is this?, you muttered. You've definitely seen him somewhere before. The man sat and looked through you with concern. Where did you see him, you continued to look at him.
“Jinyoung are you sure you’re okay?” the man asked
Jinyoung? Exactly, it was the man who was always next to Jinyoung. But why are you here? You didn't move here. You turned your head in the direction where the man was looking. Jinyoung stood near the sink, throwing away a broken glass. “No big deal, just a shallow cut,” Jinyoung said looking at the man.
You saw blood on his fingers, which he tried to wash off with water. What the hell, you muttered, sitting cross-legged on the table. You looked around, wondering how and why you ended up here.
“Hyung, it’s time for you to go home!” Jinyoung’s voice changed dramatically, and you watched in amazement as he practically pushed the man out of the apartment. You stood on the table, looking around. Maybe he’s waiting for someone, you giggled. You jumped, ending up on the back of the sofa.
“This looks familiar,” you said, looking at the painting on the wall.
"You! Who are you?" you heard Jinyoung's voice but didn't pay any attention to it. “It was you who was in the corridor when I was attacked!”
You turned sharply in his direction, jumping to the floor. “How can this be,” you muttered. He was definitely looking at you. "Can you see me?" you looked at him in surprise
“Yes,” he said shaking his head.
“This can’t be” you didn’t understand. You continued to look at him, trying to find in him the answer to this riddle.
“I saw you that night in the police station, and on the roof of the van. And then you stood in the middle of the road while cars drove along it at full speed.”
“What are you?” you looked at him, you had never seen people who saw angels before.
“I am a man, but who are you? That girl said she stuck a knife in you, but they thought she was crazy. But there was not a scratch on you, and you touched the knife, but there were no prints of yours. How could you save me from death?"
“Even if I hadn’t shown up, you wouldn’t have died, you would have just ended up in the hospital for a few weeks,” you replied. “Unbelievable,” you continued to examine him.
“It’s not me who’s incredible here, it’s you,” he said, taking a step towards you, attracting your attention. “You were now sitting on the table, but hyung didn’t see you, although you were in front of his nose. Then you said that you don’t quite relate to humanity. Who are you?" his voice practically trembled. Although you didn’t see fear in his eyes, it was more like excitement.
“It’s much more interesting who you are. Remember what we talked about, I’ll be right back” you pointed your finger at him before heading back to the office in search of your mentor.
"Can people see angels?" You asked as soon as you found a mentor.
“Only if the angel showed himself. Why are you asking?"
“And if only one person can see the angel, while he is hidden to everyone else. Could this be possible?
“Usually this can happen if a person experienced strong feelings for an angel when he saw him or the angel saved him from death. Then the angel becomes his guardian and appears in front of him every time the person is in pain or when he is in danger."
“If such a connection existed, then, for example, if a person cut himself, his angel would appear in front of him.”
“Not exactly what I had in mind, but if at that moment a person felt pain, then an angel would appear”
“This shouldn’t apply to the angels of death, right?”
“Even though you are the messengers of death, you are still angels first and foremost. So it affects everyone. Why are you even asking this?” he looked at you
“It’s simply interesting. To broaden horizons” you smiled
“If you are so interested, you can start with the books in the study. Better study books than do stupid things."
“Some other time,” you said, moving towards Jinyoung again.
He practically jumped in place when you appeared in front of him. You walked up to him and took his hand, seeing a cut running through all his fingers. So it’s true, you have become his guardians. “Will you tell me who you are?” Jinyoung asked as you let go of his hand and began to walk in a circle, trying to figure out how to get rid of this problem.
“Can we limit ourselves to the fact that I do not belong to humanity?” you smiled and sat back in your chair, crossing your legs, watching him.
“You know you don’t walk on the floor, right?” he asked, pointing to the surfaces in his room that you were moving on. “You can’t stand on the floor for long? Will something happen to you?"
“How cute,” you laughed because of the worry in his voice. “It’s more of a habit developed over centuries, because I definitely won’t run into people like that.”
"But they'll just pass right through you"
“That doesn’t mean I won’t feel it. Every time someone passes through me, I feel the darkness of their soul."
“If you feel the sins of people, does that mean you are a demon from hell?” he asked
You stood up and snapped your fingers, changing your appearance. You stood dressed in a black latex suit and twirled a burning trident in your hands, “And this is quite comfortable.” You ran your hand over your body, “Does it suit me?” you smiled, looking at the shocked Jinyoung, who, with his mouth open, backed away until he hit the wall. “Apparently, not very much.” You laughed and snapped your fingers again, returning to your previous appearance. You took one flower from the vase and tore off the petals and threw them up. By snapping your fingers, you stopped time
"How do you do it?" Jinyoung asked, pointing to the petals that were hanging in the air
“That’s what I thought, mine time stop doesn’t work on you anymore,” you muttered, snapping your fingers again. The petals fell to the floor while Jinyoung was still looking at you with his mouth open.
"Are you appearing in front of me because I'm about to die?" he asked
“No, you won't die. I'm just interested in watching you"
"Why? Is there too much darkness in me?" His voice was shaking
“On the contrary, there is absolutely no darkness in you, which surprised me. And by the way, to answer your question, I’m not a demon, although I don’t deny that for some reason people are used to thinking of me as one,” you grinned
“So you are an angel,” he said
“An angel of death to be exact” you laughed as his eyes widened “That’s exactly what I was talking about” you said pointing at his reaction
"Sorry"
“You shouldn’t take the blame for something you weren’t involved in”
"I thought the angels were different"
“I thought they showed up in robes and quoted the Bible?” You asked, “If it makes you more comfortable...” you raised your hand.
“No, stop.” He waved his hands, "Your 'unconventionality' and jokes help me not to faint." He looked out the window, “It’s winter now,” he said, and this time you looked at him in surprise, “You’re just barefoot, and yours...” Jinyoung looked you from head to toe, “the dress only slightly covers the body. You don’t feel cold?"
“We’re built a little differently,” you laughed. “Physical and emotional sensations, we can feel them, but only when we want them to” You looked at him as he laughed “What?” You asked
“Nothing” he tried to hide his smile
“You don’t want me to find out for myself, do you?” You asked, waving your hand at him.
"Can you read my mind?" At first he looked at you with widened eyes, but then grinned, answering to himself, “Of course you can. I thought that people must be happy to see someone so beautiful after death. I don’t know why this thought came to my mind,” you smiled at his assumption, without specifying that an angel after death comes in the form of the one they loved most in this life.
You looked out the window as the sky became lighter. “Don’t people sleep at night?” you looked at Jinyoung again
“I wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway. I am now communicating with an angel who is sitting on my chair. How can you sleep here? he smiled
“Try” you said when you felt that your mentor was looking for you. “I have to go” you got up from the chair
“Will I see you again?” he asked
“You're the only one who can do this,” you winked at him before moving out of the mentor's office.
“Don’t say that you have become the guardian of the soul you were watching,” asked the mentor as soon as you appeared
“Oops,” you smiled and shrugged.
“I warned you,” he shook his head.
"Is it so bad? Wow, great place, comfy,” you said, plopping down in the mentor’s chair, running your fingers over the soft chair.
"Yes! If you continue to appear in front of him, you will begin to experience emotions without the ability to control them. If you experience emotions, you may get hurt." Did you really hear the fear in your mentor's voice?
“Don’t worry, I’ll disappear before that happens,” you looked at your mentor, “Can I have that chair too?” you smiled widely while jumping on a soft pillow
“Please, a moment of seriousness! You are my eternal headache!" He grabbed his head, shaking it
“Your head can’t hurt,” you whispered, getting up from his chair.
“Every time I see you, I understand that nothing is impossible,” he rolled his eyes

You walked into your room, wandering among the shelves with all sorts of things that caught your attention in the human world. Aha, I found it!, you exclaimed, taking out a painting, exactly the same as the one hanging in Jinyoung’s living room. You placed the painting near the window and sat on the floor, looking at it. After you dealt with things, you were transported to the place where Jinyoung was. You stood on a high fence, watching him. When he saw you, he smiled widely and raised his hand to wave at you. He stopped himself when several people turned their attention to him. Turning around, you were wearing the same suit he was wearing. He gave you a thumbs up, pretending to fix your hair. You put your dress back and jumped, sitting on the edge of the tent that was next to him. He raised the phone to his ear, “Hello!” He said smiling broadly at you. You laughed at his little trick of not drawing attention to him. "How are you?" “Are you seriously asking how the angel is doing?” you grinned “Several days have passed, perhaps for you they flew by like 5 minutes, but after all, you were doing something during this time.” “Reasonable. Let's just say did my job." For a moment the smile disappeared from his face. He looked at you, you would even say with sympathy. “Well done, I’m sure you did well” You laughed loudly, clapping your hands together “Are you trying to feel sorry for me now?” you practically rolled around laughing, making him roll his eyes "I do my best" “Well done, you did it well,” you said with the same intonation as him. “Are you teasing me now?” “I do my best” you shook your head, getting to your feet. “You are simply incredible,” he chuckled. “I hear that a lot,” you said, walking around the edge of the tent. “You should go,” you said, pointing at the man who was walking in his direction.

You were transported to your room, falling onto your bed. “Where has that ill-mannered angel of death gone again!” you heard your mentor’s dissatisfied voice approaching your room. “Oh, there you are!” He said when he saw you “I already thought, you again with this mortal soul” “You seemed angry with me, so I decided not to flash in front of your nose for a while,” you said, throwing your legs up on the wall. “This is all somehow too suspicious. I'm watching you” he looked at you with narrowed eyes.

You returned to the office having dealt with all your mentor’s orders. You smiled when you found yourself in the office alone. You quickly walked over to your mentor's chair and relaxed, allowing yourself to fall into its softness. You fell through it, falling through the darkness. Did Jinyoung cut himself again, you thought before finding yourself in a room with dim red lights. You stood up, looking around. All the walls and ceiling were covered with Jinyoung's photos. You turned towards the bed and saw Jinyoung lying in his boxers only. You smiled, it didn't look like he had cut himself. His arms and legs were tied to each corner of the bed. His eyes and mouth were blindfolded. You carefully stood on the bed covered with rose petals. You sat on his chest with your legs crossed. Carefully moved the blindfold from his eyes to his forehead. “Are you into roleplay game?” you asked, looking around. You met Jinyoung's gaze, which was filled with fear. “Did you forget your safe word?” you giggled, removing the bandage from his mouth.
“Please save me,” he whispered, barely audible. The fear in his voice was real. You turned towards the locked door.
“I can't free you. Although I can make sure no one comes here before the police arrive,” you said and he sighed with relief.
“Why can’t I feel you even though you’re sitting on my chest?” he whispered
“You forgot, I’m not here” you winked at him, jumping onto the floor and he smiled “A smile is a good sign” you leaned forward looking around the next room. "Shouldn't she be in jail?" You asked pointing to the door behind which was the girl who wanted to stab him.
“So it was that girl who kidnapped me?”
"In case you were wondering, she's cooking dinner."
"This is not normal" Jinyoung muttered
“You’re right, it doesn’t smell very good,” you said, turning in his direction. But he looked at the walls covered with his photographs in horror.
“Oh, about that. Apparently you didn't have a chance to admire the interior. "What the..." his eyes widened
“Shh... unlike me, she can hear you,” you said as he raised his voice. He closed his eyes, trying to fight the anger inside. You jumped onto the bed and sat on the iron headboard that his legs were tied to. “How did you end up here?” you watched him
"Don't know. I was supposed to go to the shoot, but I can’t remember anything after I walked out into the parking lot.” He shook his head, opening his eyes.
“How are you going to save your almost naked ass from this person?” you smiled widely. “If I take this away, no one will believe that you were able to free yourself without tearing your skin to blood.” You pointed to the plastic zip ties around his wrists.
"Phone! Try to find my phone" he said looking around.
You opened the closet hoping that his clothes would be there. “How terrible!” You gasped.
“What's there? What happened?" he whispered worriedly
You pulled out a sweater from the closet, a dirty mustard color with a not-so-good image of a beaver embroidered on it, showing it to Jinyoung. “Her tastes terrible. Brrr...” you shook your head, putting the thing back in the closet.
"You're terrible!" Jinyoung muttered through clenched teeth, trying to fight his laughter. “I'm actually trying to survive here,” he said, chuckling quietly. He took a deep breath to calm himself. "Phone"
“Exactly!” you clapped your hands as you walked into the other room. “Found it,” you shouted, placing him on the floor, you pushed him with your foot so that he slipped under the door. You snapped your fingers, stopping time only for the girl as she turned towards the door behind which was Jinyoung. “You can speak calmly,” you said as you passed back to the room. You picked up the phone and turned it on.
“Have you stopped time?” he stared at you
“Only for her. It seemed like she wanted to check on you." You turned on your phone and placed it next to him. "Remember to keep your voice low." You said as he dialed the manager using voice command.
"Quiet. Shhh... hyung shut up" he hissed into the phone when the man practically shouted his name into the phone
You shook your head, rolling your eyes. You pointed to the window when Jinyoung was asked where he was. “I think I saw a yellow restaurant sign through the window before I was blindfolded.” You smiled as he said several similar names before naming the correct one.
“Tell that you think you smell burnt food,” you said and he stared at you, repeating your words. “And also tell them not to call, because you don’t know where the phone is and you’re lucky that it worked on your voice.”
You took the phone when the maneger hung up. You laid him on the floor, kicking him under the nightstands next to the bed. “It’s entirely possible that it fell out of your clothes while she was undressing you.” You smiled, shrugging.
“Would I have died today if you hadn’t shown up?” he asked, meeting your gaze
“No, you wouldn't die. Although you might have gotten a few scars to remember that day while you were trying to escape the trap" you said pointing at his hands
“Why did you say about the smell of burnt food?” he asked when you sat down next to him.
“I told you she was cooking dinner, she burned it. Or rather, this will happen in 10-15 minutes. Just the right moment for her time to start again. Because the food will burn, it will go back to the kitchen and won’t come here, and the smell will be heard even in the entrance. I forgot to tell you, the other room is also completely covered in your photos,” you said, returning to the bed. “I’m surprised by the number of them, but what surprises me even more is that not a single photo is repeated twice,” you pointed to the photos around
He laughed quietly and you looked at him in surprise. “I just remembered your reaction to that sweater with the half-dead beaver,” he whispered. You walked up to the door, tilting your head through the door, snapping your fingers when you smelled smoke. As you thought, she ran back to the kitchen.
“Right? I’m not the only one who thinks this thing is extremely strange. It seems to me that even a beaver would be horrified if they showed him this sweater." You shook your head as you approached the window. "Hurray! Finally, our valiant prince rushed to save his princess from a tower with a fire-breathing dragon." You clapped your hands joyfully when you saw a lot of cars with flashing lights below.
“Am I a princess now?” he smiled widely.
“Why not” you jumped onto the bed and squatted next to his head. “This needs to be returned” you said sliding the blindfold back over your eyes when you heard a loud noise and screams outside the door.
“Are you still around?” he whispered barely audibly
You smiled and took his hand. He squeezed your finger as his body began to shake violently. After several strong blows, the door to the room fell out, falling to the floor. "I found him." the man shouted before entering the room. “Jinyoung.” Can you hear me?" The man said as he removed Jinyoung's blindfold. “Don’t be afraid, I’m from the police. Everything will be fine."
Jinyoung kept his gaze on you as the man cut off his bonds. You winced as Jinyoung groaned in pain as he tried to sit up. “Lay down, the doctor will come now,” the man said, covering Jinyoung with a blanket.
“Oh yeah, it’s right, the blanket will help him deal with the pain,” you muttered, rolling your eyes. “Stop giggling!” you said as he turned on his side, towards you. “They’ll think you’re crazy.”
“Isn’t that so? I’m talking to the angel of death, remember?” he winked at you, smiling widely as the man walked away from him.
You jumped to the side when a lot of people appeared and kept asking practically the same questions. “Do they have trouble processing information or is it normal to ask the same questions to someone who has been kidnapped?” You asked, standing on the iron headboard, watching the people who surrounded Jinyoung. Jinyoung covered his mouth with his hand, hiding his smile at your words.
"Anyway... See you!" You said, waving your hand at Jinyoung before vanishing.

Y/N grew up in a wealthy family, she always was seen as a beautiful and smart kid and was most likely to take her father’s place as the CEO of one of the most important companies in South Korea. He hugged me tightly as if there was no tomorrow. I noticed how he was sweaty and out of breathe, probably from running to get to me faster.
I breathed in his unique scent, it was woody scent, something fresh but still manly. I felt safer with him, everything was easier when he was by my side. I didn't want to let him go and my feelings seemed mutual as he tightened his grip on my waist.
I was like a piece of metal attracted to a magnet.
We sat down on the bed and he let me cry my heart out, listening every word I had to say. I told him my story, my conflictual relationship with my father, how harsh he was with me and my brother since my mom passed away and my arranged wedding with this Hwang Jinyoung.
We talked for two good hours about my problems but also about the future we both wanted.
As time went on, I started to feel sleepy, my eyelids were heavy and my mind was cloudy. I slowly closed my eyes until I fell into a deep sleep into San's arms. He gently patted my head to help me fall asleep.
"Don't worry Y/N, I will protect you from now on."
San hummed a song before falling asleep by Y/N’s side.

Chapter 4
I woke up in the same room I felt asleep on. The unusual walls made my heart ache at the thought of what had happened between my father and I. I knew deep inside me that there will be no turning back with my relationship with him but strangely enough, i didn't feel bad about it, I was more concerned about my brother than anything.
"Did you sleep well?"
I looked up and was greeted by this angelical face of his. San was laying on the same bed as me, one of his muscular arm holding my frame tightly. I smiled back and hide my face on his chest, smelling his addictive scent at the same time.
"I did."
It was a weird feeling. I knew almost nothing of San, I met him three times and still... I felt as if I could give him my whole body and soul. I couldn't help but think about what my mom told me when I was still a child.
"Someday you will find someone you can rely on, someone who doesn't need words to know how you feel, someone who understand and cherish you as the most precious thing in the world. You will find this person one day Y/N, I'm sure of it."
My lips came upward in a smile as I remembered my mom's word, they had a new meaning to me since I met San.
His grip tightened a little around me while his other hand was busy, gently petting my hair.
"You are acting like a boyfriend"
"Do you like it?"
"Very much" I smiled, looking fondly at him and before I knew it, San leaned on and kissed me slightly.
His lips felt like feather, there was nothing but sweetness and love in this kiss, his right hand cupped my cheek and rubbed his thumb against the soft skin.
When our lips finally moved apart, I looked up to meet his - oh so lovely - gaze.
"You are so beautiful"
"Say the man whom is beauty itself" I giggled softly.
This moment was almost perfect - almost.
My mind was quick to remember about the bitterness of the situation I was in. I looked down sadly, avoiding San's intrigued eyes.
A lot of questions were running on my mind. What will happen from now on? I was still minor and my dad was stubborn, he would never let me escape from his grasp so easily. How will I survive? I didn't even had enough money to stay on this hotel for more than a week.
Unconsciously, I sighed heavily. San took my chin between his thumb and his index and lift my face towards his.
"What is it?" San asked me in a whisper.
"Did you bring your phone with you? I have to call Hana, she must be worried."
After a few seconds, he nodded and gave me his phone. I entered the familiar number and quickly enough, Hana's voice was heard through the phone.
"Y/N!! Is everything okay? I was worried sick! I thought you were coming early in the morning?" Her voice cracked at the end of her sentence. I frowned my eyebrows. She was whispering yelling and it was odd since she was always a loud girl.
"Sorry, I didn't wake up. Why are you this quiet?" I suspiciously asked.
"Y/N, I don't think you should come here, your father was there one hour ago and he was beyond furious! He threatened me and my family, saying that he will ruin our lives if he find out we are hiding you from him!" She cried out.
This sentence came before a long and heavy silence where no one dared to talk. My mind was processing this new information while my heart was scolding me for bringing my best friend and her family into a delicate situation.
San was quietly listening to our conversation, his right hand on top of mine while his thumb was gently rubbing the back of my hand..
"I'm so sorry Hana... I didn't mean to bring you into this mess..." I lowered my voice, guilt eating me alive.
"Hey sweety... It's okay. You didn't do anything wrong but... I don't think this is a good idea to go against your father will. He is really scary."
"Are you telling me to came back home and let my father do everything he wants with me?" My throat felt suddenly dry and my heart heavy in my chest.
No answer.
I knew she was just afraid of what could possibly happen to her and her family, she just wanted to protect her loved ones. However, I couldn't help but feel betrayed. She knew how my father was and how hard it was for me to handle this situation.
"I see. Don't worry for me, I'm gonna find a way." I finally stated with the coldest voice I could muster. I didn't let her the time to give an answer and hung up right away.
I stayed silent for a while and so did San.
After what seemed like an eternity, I finally looked up at him and sighed with a small smile "Thank you for what you did to me. I owe you one"
"Why are you talking as if you are going somewhere?" he arched his eyebrows before leaning close to me with his signature smirk of his "I'm not planning to let you go away from me, love."
I gasped in surprise "L-love?" I asked stuttering, embarrassed by this sudden pet name.
"Why are you embarrassed about? We just kissed a few minutes ago"
I avoided his gaze and coughed slightly to get rid of the awkwardness "I can't stay here San... You will be in trouble if my dad find out you helped me and I don't want it to happen."
This time, it was San's turn to sight.
"Y/N. Listen to me. I will let you two choices" I frowned but stayed silent to let him continue "You don't know who I am but I can help you. However I won't take you with me if you don't want to. It's up to you. Do you want to stay with me, where I'll promise to keep you safe by my side, or do you want to go back and be toyed your entire life by your father against your own will?"
Silence again.
His face was serious and his voice demanding, It actually made me think I couldn't choose the latter choice - not that I wanted to choose this option anyway.
"Why are you doing this.. I mean, we don't know much about each other and-"
"Kim Y/N, born in Seoul the 25th September 1999 at 3:48. You like horror movies and all kind of sweets, your mother passed away the 4th June and since then, your father had changed completely, leaving you and your brother behind" San said, never breaking visual contact with me "You are the student with the best grades on your class and you are the teacher's favorite and even though you want to attend the prestigious Seoul national college, you don't know what to do in your life yet"
I was astonished, how did he get all his information?
As if on cue, he slipped a hand in my hair "It's been two years now Y/N, no one know you as much as I do. I know every single details about you but now, I don't want to look at your life from far away, I want to be apart of it" He smiled but frowned as I slowly stepped away from him "were you stalking me all this time?" I asked, heart beating fast.
"Come on, I know you are as obsessed over me as I am over you" He laughed before standing up and quickly doing his hair while looking his own reflect on the mirror “I was there every time you talked to your friend about me”
I watched his every move and couldn’t find anything to say. No matter how crazy it sounded, I knew he was right.
"And how are you gonna help me?"
"Your dad isn't all white, quite the contrary" He said "I know enough to tell him to let you be" He added.
"Are you going to... threaten him?" I looked at him through the mirror.
"Why? You don't want me to?" He smiled at me, his back still facing me.
I took a deep breathe.
"No... He deserves it"
He turned around and came closer to me with the widest smirk.
"So... Are you coming with me?"
I watched as the landscape kept changing from outside the window. The spacious car was moving in slow pace in a part of Seoul I never went in.
I knew it was the beginning of something new but everything seemed so unreal, the only thing that kept me back to reality was the warmth of San's hand intertwining with mine.
I quickly take a glance at the driver, his sharp nose and strong eyes made him look cold, a perfect contrast with his tanned skin. I was surprised by how young he was, probably not much older than San and I and obviously both of them were getting along with each other.
I was so focus on looking at the man and wondering who he was to San that I didn't took notice of my staring until I felt San squeezing my hand.
"Y/N...I'm not sure of how I feel about you looking at another man" He pouted cutely to grab my attention back to him. I laughed lowly and gave him a apologetic look "I'm not sure how I feel about you being jaleous while we are not in an official relationship yet" I smirked at him.
"The kiss wasn't official enough for you?" He smirked back "should I give you an other one then? " He asked, his face coming closer to mine.
His lips ghosted over mine but we were interrupted by a loud cough before we could properly touch each other.
"Please San, can you keep your hands for yourself until you both are alone? I don't especially want to see you guys kiss in the back seat of my car" The driver said in a rather annoyed tone.
"Look who is talking" San scoffed "Should I remind you how many times you made out with your girlfriend in front of me?"
The older man let out a dry laugh, his eyes still on the road.
After a few minutes of a comfortable silencex the driver looked at me from the front mirror.
"Your name is Y/N, right?"
"Yes... And you are..?"
"I'm Seonghwa. Park Seonghwa" He said "I'm glad to meet you, San wouldn't shut up and talk about you every fucking day" He laughed, earning another loud scoff from San.
"Watch your mouth, you are older but I'm still the boss here" San growled.
Suddenly, the car stopped abruptly.
"We safely came back to your home sir~" Seonghwa politely stated, not without a hint of teasing in his voice.
San pulled me out of the car, hand still holding mine firmly. I followed him and looked up at the huge mansion in front of us.
My mouth fell agape, this place was way bigger than mine.
"Welcome to your new house" San smiled.

Ahhh I’m happy to see someone else loving The Devil Judge - it truly is amazing 😭😭🖤✨ I love Yo-Han and Ga-on’s relationship I swear let them be destructive together!
I hate waiting for new episodes so please tell me one of your theories, it can be about anything! 🥰
Right?! I love it so much, it's really good to have our lilttle fam getting bigger, can't wait until it airs on Netflix, we will have even more people going crazy about it in here! (at least I hope it will become a Netflix series after the show ends like Beyon Evil - another love of mine) and yes, lawful husbands can be destructive together but only to the bad people pls 🥺
It's tough waiting for new episodes every weekend and at the same time I wish for it not to end so soon. It hasn't finished but I already want Jisung and Jinyoung in a second season or working together in another drama. Their chemistry on screen is too good to stop there
About the theories, there's a few I saw on reddit/twitter and I make my own based on it and after watching every episode, but I think it's too early to talk about them. However, since you requested it, there's some that come to mind as interesting enough to mention.
The fire and the story behind it narrated by Yohan
1- Some people think Yohan did start the fire because he found out about the dirty politicians real intentions and decided to destroy them all in the same place before Isaac could donate the money bc he is "a devil" and capable of that since he was a kid as told by the priest with the school incident and the nanny with the maid and dog thing. side note: not for pranking some kids who bullied him because that's all it seems like, right? But in terms of observing, thinking strategically and being one step ahead when needing to punish the whole classroom who wronged him even as young as he was and feeling satisfied while watching the result and staying out of it. A type of mentality probably encouraged by Isaac and the books he gave him to read, unlike a regular kid who would just fight back or endure it. And we still have to see if it really was Yohan that contributed to the maid's death or if it was something/someone else and the nanny thinks it was him.
They think that Elijah even saw him in front of the door right before the fire started and smiled at him instead of smiling at her parents, like she did in the gates of the cathedral in the previous scene, so that's why she hates him so much now because she can remember seeing him as the responsible for it. But Yohan didn't intend to kill/hurt Isaac and the rest of the family, thinking he could save them or something, and felt guilty that he couldn't do so. Some even said that Yohan delayed too much in trying to save them after entering the church and seeing Elijah getting her legs hurt, that it may have been shock but why would he remember everything and everyone so clearly if he was in shock?
It's a good theory but I have my own remarks: why wouldn't he tell Isaac about the politicians himself if he knew the dirty about them then? They had a close relationship and Isaac gave him books about punishment and everything, it wasn't like Isaac was too naive and wouldn't believe his half-brother. He wouldn't have donated if Yohan told him. "Oh he was being the devil and finding a way to punish them instead of just letting is slide and not donating" still, Yohan wouldn't risk Isaac and Elijah with such a dangerous plan if he could avoid having Isaac and Elijah at all in the destruction scene by telling Isaac about it. It could have been shock and Yohan wanting to look and commit to mind everyone's face in that day responsible for hurting his niece and not caring about anyone else but themselves, pushing him away and delaying his attempt to get to them in time, leaving Isaac and the family behind (after they almost donated them their money) and things like that. So he can avenge them now, like he did in the school with the kids. That's why as soon as he could, he canceled the donation in the most easy way by saying his brother wasn't sane enough to make that decision before dying.
There's also the theories about Isaac being the insane/evil one, which wouldn't surprise me because I've considered it since episode 3 but at the same time I'll not be touching that topic now and I don't know if I ever will unless proven otherwise in some other episode
2- The other theory I have and saw people discussing (the one I'm most inclined to believe because I'm Yohan biased but again it's too soon to be sure) is that the story Yohan narrated is mostly if not completely true and he experiences extreme guilt for not coming back and saving Isaac when the church collapsed on him, as seen in the character introduction by tvN translated in this tweet that we now know it's about Isaac:
The last words Yohan said to Isaac was that he was going to come back for him, so he experiences nightmares like the flashbacks we saw in episode 1 and that's why we don't see any scene of Isaac in the middle of the church after the fire staring at Yohan or during the fire and turning to stare directly at Yohan when he narrates it. Because they're dreams and his guilty conscience and he remembers them when looking at Gaon. The flashback of Yohan kneeling down and touching Isaac with Elijah's bear close to him could be after he got Elijah out from there and he went back to put the bear next to him kinda like a "Sorry for not coming back in time", a reassurance that his daughter for whom he died for is safe and will always stay with him, a "Goodbye". He wouldn't just let Isaac's body lying there, he would go back even if it was too late.
Another thing is that when Yohan is showing Gaon his scar after telling the story, there's a book fallen at his feet. I think it was the thing that fell when Yohan standed up from the table and choked Gaon (trying hard not to comment on that choking scene as a 🔥 Gahan moment for our delight and imagination bc that's not the point right now lol)

And the first page of this book says "Never again will a single story be told as though it's the only one." - John Berger
I searched about it and it can mean that never again will a story be told as if it's the only one that matters. It could also mean that never again will a story be so encompassing of the elements it tackles that no other story need be written about these elements. A story has many perspectives that cannot be understood by just a single viewpoint. Isn't that what this kdrama is all about?

The meaning of what he said changes a bit depending on which translation is more accurate, more so when we add the book quote to the equation.
Kim Gaon and his connection to Kang Yohan
People think Gaon could be Isaac's relative in some way or just a look alike (I think it's just a look alike to contribute to Yohan's obsession/curiosity and their proximity from the start, that's why no one really comments on it, not even Gaon when he sees Isaac's picture). Dear God, let them not be related because it would make shipping our lawful husbands really strange, to say the least.
What I'd like to say and almost everyone is forgetting is that in the tvN character introduction we already have Gaon's past and know he wasn't always a goody two shoes, the man was a juvenile delinquent and can even fight (the rebellious phase he said he made the tattoo in episode 3?). He too sought revenge for his parents when he was 16 because they committed suicide after losing their money and being deceived by multi-level con artists posing as social service workers. But the teacher and Soohyun were able to hold him back.
Yohan's father could be one of the reasons for their death. He was a loan shark and might have lend them money after they lost it all and it caused them to have a great debt, that's why Yohan did a thorough research on Gaon and was interested in him (not only because he resembled his half-brother). They shared one enemy in common and maybe even a place (churches, Yohan's father tended to confess his sins in a church when his debtors killed themselves). Or Yohan might have researched about him at the time he knew Gaon was chosen to be the associate judge sitting on his left side instead of way before, because it's important to Yohan to know who he is dealing with and the dirty of their past if they have any. And then Yohan discovered everything and saw his picture and resemblance to Isaac.
The thing is: they have the same distrust/repulsion of powerful people who deceive the world and had a painful loss because of that. Both of them think they have the other exactly where they want but they get more confused about what it is that they really want from the other and get closer (as said in the summary of episode 5 that tvN released) while figuring it out. They will come to an understanding and probably join forces at some point. We saw it in the end of episode 4, the scene of episode 5 when Gaon says he can understand Yohan's pain but can't trust him if he doesn't tell him everything and then Yohan says Gaon needs to decide if he will get in his way or stay by his side. Gaon might go back to his rebellious days and stay with Yohan to seek revenge together while distancing himself from Soohyun and Jungho who prevented him from doing so

Maybe I should have listened to my mother, who told me that falling for a mafia man was a bad idea. “But mom, you fell for a mafia man.” She sighs, “And you see what happened?” I scoff over the phone, “But I know he’s different.” “Come on home, baby. I love you. I would never want anything bad to happen to you. Come home before you are into deep.” I roll my eyes and look at the picture frame that holds a photo of my first date with Kim Yugyeom. “I love you, Mom. I am home here. I’ll be okay.”

He scrunches up his nose, “Maybe an art museum and then to a fancy restaurant?” I smile, and he goes up and changes into a brown bomber jacket with a cream tee shirt. His jeans remain the same as we pull on our shoes. My mom's voice rings in my head again. 'I would never want anything bad to happen to you.' I shake my head knowing I am most protected when I stand next to Yugyeom. We hop into his Lincoln Continental and head off to a museum.
Heart comes on over the radio that’s playing softly, “Come on home, baby. Momma cried on the phone.” Oh, come on now, isn’t this getting a little too coincidental? We hold hands, our masks concealing our identities as we walk around admiring the artwork. As we finish up the tour, I ask him where to next. He asks if going to a bar was okay, instead of the restaurant idea. I shrug, “It’s your choice tonight, after all.” He smiles, and we hop back into his car.
I should have known he had work-related business at the bar. I felt him tense up the second we walked in. I raised a brow but didn’t say a word as he led me over to the stools. Once I sat down, he suddenly spun around, catching sight of whoever he was after. He pulls out his silver gun and fires away. His glare sends shivers down my spine, and when he turns back towards me, his eyes light back up. He snaps his fingers, and his cohorts come out from the bar. Cleaning up his mess before any cops can show up. I ask him softly, “Why did you do that?” He shrugs, “I’ve been tracking him for a while. Finally caught up to him.” I nod, although it's not a reason in my head. But good enough, I guess. He orders us two monster chocolate milkshakes. “Still my Gyeomie.” He laughs, “Always for you, baby.” He kisses my forehead, and I feel my heart melt a little.

Yugyeom’s not home that’s weird he’s usually home by now. I shrug and grab my trash bags and take them towards the dumpster. Telling Dalkyum goodbye, “Don’t worry, I will be right back.” I lock the door and make the three-minute trek to the dumpster. When I see someone lying on trash bags outside of the dumpster, I hope they're not dead,... I shake off my nerves and go to throw out my trash. Then, suddenly, I recognize the person lying in the pile of trash. I gasp, dropping the trash bag, the sound ricocheting off the buildings as it hits the pavement. His eyes shoot open, and he reaches for his gun. When he recognizes it’s me, he sighs, and I see the blood covering his face. I get up closer and lay on top of the garbage. “What happened?!” He groans when I notice his stomach is blood red. What if mom was right? Without a second thought, I take off my shirt and rip off a long strip. Lifting his shirt, he hisses. “Fuck that hurts, (Y/n).” I nod, and before I can ask what made the circle-shaped wound. He answers me, “That guy's goons from the other night,... I was walking home to our place, and they broke a beer bottle on the side of the building. I got a swing in before the one stabbed me in the stomach with the bottle.” He doesn’t go into more detail as I wrap it up and put pressure on it.
For some reason, I can’t help but laugh as I realize my mom was right. I almost got to see Yugyeom stabbed to death. If he’s not bleeding out right now, that is. I explain my laughter, “You know, my dad was a King Pin.” He looks over at me with a raised brow, “Really? How did you get out of the mafia life?” I shrug, “My mom ran away as fast as she could after she saw him get stabbed to death. No one knew of my mom since they had just started dating after their one nightstand. And nine months later, my mom had me. She told me everything she knew about him. She didn’t want me to be with you because she watched her lover get stabbed to death. All because he owed some money,... She didn’t want me to lose you the same way.” He laughs as he coughs up blood. “Funny how that works, huh?” I shake my head with tears in my eyes as the reality dawns on me.
He reaches for something in the troves of the bags and hands me a bundle of daisies, “I planned on giving you these when I saw you later tonight.” I sigh heavily, “I love you so much, Gyeom. Please,... please don’t die on me.” He smirks weakly, “I wouldn’t... dr-dream of it.” I place a kiss on his lips and ask, “What do you want me to do?” He shakes his head, “A drag of a cigarette would be nice right now.” I sigh and dig through my pockets. “How did you know I hid them from you?” He makes a face at me, and I sigh, “I didn’t want you to cough up your lungs, you know?” I pull out the pack and a lighter. I take a drag from it first before passing it to Yugyeom.
He sighs deeply and lets out the smoke. “You know, I watched you take them. You’re not that sneaky,... But I promised myself I would try to quit.” I roll my eyes at him, “Yeah?” He nods, “For you, I would give up my own life.” My eyes nearly pop out of my head, “Please don’t risk something that means so much to me.” He pulls the cigarette from his lips, and I wipe the blood from underneath it off. He shakily brings his hand up to my face and pulls me in for a kiss. We pull away, and I look him in his eyes. And he tells me, “I think Jinyoung is coming,...” On cue, I hear the sound of tire screech to a halt. “Goddammit, how did you get yourself into this mess?!” Jinyoung yells sternly. I shake my head, “I honestly couldn’t tell you. I came out to dump some trash at the dumpster, and here he was laying.” Jinyoung sighs, “Help me dump him in the car?” I shrug, and we both lug up the tall man. “Thanks.” Jinyoung rolls his eyes, “Don’t mention it. No, seriously.” A smile creeping up his face, he grabs a sanitizer out of the van. He sprays it over the trash before we throw it all into the overflowing dumpster.
Instead of joining Jinyoung in the front, I go over to sit on the bench seat in the back. I pull the door shut to the side compartment of the van as Jinyoung hits the gas hard. I fly back, “Jinyoung!” I growl, and Yugyeom lets out a laugh and pulls me near him. “The seatbelts don’t work on the bench seat, by the way. The safest place is next to me.” I sigh, “You got that right.” I place the daisies that I kept safe on the bench seat.
Jinyoung patches him up once we arrive at his house, “Now, take good care of this little rascal.” Yugyeom laughs, “You love me, Jinyoung.” He gives Yugyeom a blank look, “Yeah, I just don’t want to see you get hurt.” I grin and thank him, and Jinyoung nods, “Now, go have a date night or whatever you kids do nowadays.” We walk home together. I hold the daisies close to me. He asks if I still have the pack of cigarettes as we pass the dumpster he was bleeding out in front of. I nod and hand them over to him, and he gives me a beautiful smile. He tosses them a bit in his hands before he whips them into the dumpster. “I told you, I’d give them up.” I roll my eyes, “If it relieved your anxiety, you didn’t have to give them up.” He kisses my forehead, “You relieve my anxiety, plus you’ve done more for me than that pack ever did.” I shake my head before I pull him in for a kiss. “You know, you’re the best at doing the worst.” He raises his eyebrow, “You could kill someone and still look flawless. You could get beat the fuck out of, and you still look like a million bucks.” He runs a hand through his hair, “How can you describe a criminal so beautifully?” I bring his hand up to my lips and tell him, “Because the criminal I’m in love with is so much more than his crimes.” As we reach the first step to our apartment, he turns me towards him. “I love you. You’re the light of my life. Thank you for loving and taking care of me.”
I call my mom later that night and tell her what happened, “Oh, honey, are you okay?” I tell her I am, that I’m glad she worried about Yugyeom and me. But that I know, nothing can come in between us now. I’m deeply in love with him, and I don’t think anything could ever change that. I come to sit down next to him on our shared bed. “Wanna say anything to him?”
He smiles and takes the phone from me, and I hear him laugh. He smiles over at me, “Honestly, I don’t think they could ever get me to stop loving them.” He grabs my hand, and we intertwine them together. “I promise, (M/n), nothing could stop me from protecting them. I’ll keep them safe, don’t worry, I’ll hand you back to them.” She tells me she loves me and that to take good care of the lengthy troublesome man. I promise to and tell her goodbye before hanging up and cuddling up to Yugyeom. “You know, it’s only been a year since we have been together but, I’m deeply, madly, in love with you,” I tell him while looking into his eyes. “I find myself falling more and more in love with you than I ever thought possible each day.” He tells me and pecks my cheek. We get under the covers, and he reaches over and turns off the lamp. “Good night.” We say in unison and can’t help but laugh. “Can I be the little spoon tonight?” He asks me softly, “I was hoping you would ask that.” I drape my arms over his torso and bring him into my body. Our legs tangled together comfortably, and I realize there is nowhere I’d rather be than here with him in my arms where the world looks so soft.

You tossed and turn in your bed. You can’t remember when the last time was since you had gotten proper sleep, but you honestly didn’t mind anymore. You felt like a soul-less human being who’s just waiting for their body to give up.
And the wandering soul in the corner of your room didn’t like that. He sighed and sat on the corner of your bed which made you sit up to look at him.
“I hate seeing you like this,” Yugyeom spoke with evident pain in his eyes. Never in your whole life did you think that you can see emotions on ghosts, but there it was.
“I miss you.” You replied while fighting back the tears that’s building up in your eyes.
It’s been two years since you lost the love of your life. He was involved in a car accident after the engines in his vehicles started malfunctioning, so he lost control which led to a hard impact on a concrete wall. The doctors tried their best to resuscitate him – you saw that. But it was no use since they couldn’t get a heartbeat anymore.
“I’m always here, (y/n).” Yugyeom tried to take a hold of your hand but once again it didn’t work. His hand passed by like cold wind and he sighed.
“But I can’t physically feel you anymore.” You smiled bitterly.
After the night of his funeral, you woke up in disbelief when you saw a ghost-like figure of Yugyeom standing in front of your bed. You gulped but he just had a smile on his face. Turns out, it was your boyfriend’s soul wandering the earths. He came directly to you and never left.
“Go to sleep, my love.” He whispered, ignoring the stinging pain in his heart from your last statement. And you know you hurt him, so you nodded and laid back down. Thankfully, you finally got to slumber this time around.
No one talked to you in university. Ever since Yugyeom’s tragic death, you cut off everyone in your life and no matter how hard they tried to reconnect with you, you shut them off every time. The pity stares and comments never ended but it’s not like you care.
You walked silently to your lockers to gather the books you needed for your morning classes. You paused to smile at the polaroid sitting at the front of your locker – it was your high school graduation and the both of you had the biggest smiles while hugging one another. Oh, the things you’d give up just to hold him like that once more.
The bell rang which disrupted you from your thoughts. You shut your lockers and proceeded to your first class. You sat on the very back where no one could bother you, as usual.
“Good morning class. We have a new student, please introduce yourself.” The business professor spoke, and you stared at the man beside him. He had a laptop bag hanging on his right shoulder and he was dressed neatly.
“Hi. I’m Jinyoung. I transferred from Oakley University.” The young man spoke with a smile on his face the whole time.
You were so lost in your thoughts about him that you didn’t notice him taking a seat in the vacant chair right next to you. He flashed you that smile once again, and you couldn’t help but smile back.
Yugyeom found himself in the same situation again. He was battling with the light that was trying to take his soul back to where it belonged, but he refused to do so. And each time it gets harder and harder to fight back.
But he couldn’t leave you. So, he poured all the energy he had left, and the light eventually disappeared once again. He didn’t know how longer he could fight – he was getting tired, and he knows it’s time to go.
The thought of leaving you behind – the woman that he fought for, prayed for, and loved the most scared him. Although he knows that the current situation you have would never work. He was just a soul – he couldn’t even touch or hold you and that pained him.
You don’t know what happened and how it happened. But you were in a café with Jinyoung and you two are sharing a conversation. There was just something about the man that you can’t afford to say no to.
You also couldn’t help but notice the smiles that your old friends and acquaintances were flashing your way. Maybe they’re glad that you’re finally opening up again to someone.
“So, for the business proposal, do you want to be partners?” Jinyoung spoke and quickly brought your attention back to him. He was slicing up the bread in front of you while he asked.
You smiled at the gesture. Yugyeom used to do that for you all the time.
“Why not?” You looked up to him and flashed him a genuine smile. It’s been a long time since you last smiled like that and you were having hundreds of multiple reactions in your body.
As the days passed by, Yugyeom couldn’t help but notice that you started going home late and he could feel an upbeat vibe from you – which was unusual.
He hated to be selfish, but he started to hate the way you were happy without him. But he didn’t tell you that cause it took you two whole years to be where you are right now, and he couldn’t take that away from you.
You lost so much in your life after his death. You stopped being a social butterfly, you stopped being the top of the classes, you stopped being the light of the party, and you stopped … loving. He knows you tell him a thousand times a day that you love him, but he felt otherwise.
He was just a soul and your love language is physical touch. He started thinking about all the things he took away from you and the guilt started consuming him.
Maybe it was time to stop fighting with the light.
You bid goodbye to Jinyoung’s friends as you both left the restaurant you just had dinner in. Ever since you met him, you were slowly getting back into life and you were scared. The last time you had control in your life was before Yugyeom died and that was a long time ago.
The car ride on the way home was silent. Jinyoung could tell you had a lot on your mind, and he let you be. You just watched the buildings and fixtures that is passing by as you contemplate about whether you were ready to get back on track or not.
Jinyoung insisted that he walk you to your apartment door and you couldn’t say no. You shared small conversations as you walked from the parking lot up until you reached the front of your door. The both of you stopped and he looked at you.
With the sincerest eyes and voice, he spoke, “I’m falling in love with you.”
You opened your apartment door and saw Yugyeom staring at you from the living room. You open your mouth to explain but he spoke first, “My time’s up, love.”
You were confused as he walked closer to you. He flashed a smile before speaking once again, “The light has been coming to take me for a while now, but I always fought back just to stay with you. But it’s time for you to be finally happy again.”
“Yugyeom, is this about Jinyoung? I swear … I don’t feel the same way.” You spoke as the tears flowed down your eyes. You were scared to lose him. You already lost him once and it would crash you to lose him again.
“You do. I know you do. You’re just holding back because I’m still here. But (y/n), you deserve to get back the life you lost because of me.” Yugyeom responded and he was crying now too.
“We both know this set-up is never going to work. We’re both too caught up with each other that it took us two years to realize that.” Yugyeom started wiping off the tears in your face which took you back – how could he be possibly touching you?
He laughed at your confused expression, “It’s my one last wish before I go with the light. To touch you one last time before I leave you forever.”
The sentence shattered your heart, but you were realizing the truth in the words he spoke.
“This isn’t going to be easy. We’ve been each other’s backbone since we were children. All my life was about loving and taking care of you and I’m thankful for that. But as for you, your life isn’t over yet.” Yugyeom took hold of both your hands.
“You deserve to love and be happy again. I held you back from that and you weren’t yourself for the longest time. It’s about the time that people still in your life get that back.” He rubbed his thumb across your hands which was a gesture that you missed so much from him.
You were going to miss that, and you were thankful to feel it one last time.
“Okay, Yugyeom. But can you hold me to sleep one last time before you go into the light?” You asked through the sobs and he nodded.
So, there you were, you both laid in my bed with his arms around you. He felt like a cold wind, but you didn’t complain. This was the one last time before you have to move on with your life without the man you’ve known to love even before you knew what love was.
“When you wake up, I won’t be here anymore, love.” Yugyeom whispered into your ear and you swallowed the lump in your throat.
“If you ever miss me, just look up in the night sky and if you see a star that’s shining so bright, just know that that’s me looking down on you from up above.” Yugyeom spoke once again which caused your tears to fall.
He shushed your sobbing before continuing to speak, “I know it hurts to be watching the night sky without me,”
“But the day will come that it would start hurting less because you’re bound to make new memories with the next man in your life.” You felt the pain in his voice.
“I won’t ever forget about you, Yugyeom.” You reassured him.
“And I won’t ever stop loving you, (y/n).” He spoke one last time before hugging you even tighter. And you fell asleep just like that.
Waking up was the hardest part. You cried when you couldn’t feel Yugyeom’s hands around you anymore and the thought of never seeing or touching him again didn’t help with the sobs.
You lost track of time, but you were taken aback when a light shone upon your room. It was already dark, and the binding light was shining so bright that it made you stand up and open the balcony door.
You were in awe when you saw a star that standed out – it was the brightest one in the night sky and it was shining down directly at you. You knew it was him and you smiled as the tears fell down your face.
The star blinked three times right in your face and you smiled as tears rolled down your face.
“I love you, Kim Yugyeom.” You spoke to the star as it continuously blinks.
The star suddenly shifted it’s brightness somewhere else. You followed its light and as you look down to where its shining at, you saw Jinyoung waving at you at the front of the building with your favorite pastries in his hand.
You look up to speak to the star once again, “And I’m finally ready to let go.”
The star blinked one last time, and you watch as its brightness fade away until it completely vanished in the night sky.
It’s time to be happy again.

Uncaged - Part 7 (Final)

Summary: You had felt like a prisoner and called out for help, though you weren't expecting it to be Park Jinyoung who came to your rescue. Nothing is as it seems and the more you get to know him, the more you felt free.

You had decided to go somewhere more private, so that the two of you could be alone and not interrupted by anyone else within the house. Jinyoung took your hand gently in his as you headed towards a part of the house you had never been before.
“Where are we going?”
“I want to show you something. A piece of me that I don’t share all too often.” Jinyoung smiled weakly.
You could see how nervous he was, his usual arrogant and strong facade falling away and leaving you with the vulnerable man you had seen the smallest glimpse of the night he woke you from your nightmare. It made your stomach flip to see such a side to him, your heart beating that little bit faster too as you squeezed his hand reassuringly.
Jinyoung opened the double doors in front of you, revealing what appeared to be a bedroom suite much like your own, although something to the side caught your eye. You froze to the spot.
“Where did you get that from?” you asked, your voice void of any emotion as you let go of his hand.
Jinyoung walked over to where you were looking, signalling for you to come forward. He picked up the necklace and played with it gently in his fingers.
“It’s not what you think, Y/N.”
“I think you stole something of mine that has been missing for months.” You swallowed roughly as the tears threatened to fall upon seeing the necklace once again.
“Please. Sit down and I’ll explain everything.”
You nodded numbly and did as he asked, sitting down on the opposite edge of the chaise.
“Do you remember when you lost it?” Jinyoung asked you gently, still holding onto the piece of jewellery.
“I was walking in the forest on Tristan’s land. I remember tripping and falling down hard. Then I woke up back in the house hours later and it was gone.”
“Mm. You actually fell a lot harder than you think, Y/N.”
“What do you mean?” You didn't like the sound of his voice or what he was insinuating. “Just say it.”
“You died.”
Your heart dropped as the words left his mouth, all color fading from your face as well as his own. He moved closer towards you, gripping your hands in his.
“But I found you. I saved you. And that was when I realised we were mates.”
“How? You’ve known for that long? How are you so sure this isn't the afterlife? Why didn’t you tell me any of this sooner?” Your brow furrowed in confusion and frustration at the information being told to you right now. It was beyond your comprehension. You had died? Surely you would remember such a thing.
Jinyoung steadied himself as he took a large breath in, squeezing your hands tightly.
“I shouldn’t have been on his lands, I actually don’t remember how I got there. I just knew I needed to be there.” He lifted his eyes to look into yours, a small sad smile playing on his lips. “And when I saw you, I just knew I was in the right place.”
You sat patiently as he told his story, not wanting to rush him as you could tell it was hard on him to relive it.
“I knew I was the only one who could save you. When I saw the necklace I almost fell over myself. See I have a matching one.” He passed you the necklace he had in his hands as he undid his top button, revealing his very own exact piece.
You gasped, unable to believe it. Your hand reached out to touch it, sending a jolt throughout your body as you did. Jinyoung shuddered under your touch, his eyes closed to ready himself once more as he continued with the story.
“I never want to see you in that condition ever again. It broke me in half seeing you lying there so lifeless Y/N, I couldn’t bear it.” Jinyoung stopped, collecting himself once again. “I put the necklaces together and this bright green light shone over both of us. It was as if the life from the forest surrounding us and a part of my soul went into you. Reviving you. I gently brushed your hair from your eyes, as my hand rested on your cheek and then the colour came back into your skin. I could finally breathe again.”
“I had no idea.” You couldn’t help it then. The tears fell freely down your face at his retelling.
“Shh, it’s okay. Don’t cry.” Jinyoung pulled you closer, wiping the tears with his fingertips as he left a small kiss on top of your head.
“After I knew you were alright, Jaebeom helped me by bringing you closer to Tristan’s house. I couldn’t be seen on his land. Your necklace remained with mine, so I brought it back here and kept it in a safe place. Knowing I would give it back to you one day. Somehow.”
“How did you cope all these months knowing we were supposed to be together? And you didn’t come for me?”
“Oh believe me, I wanted to. But I knew that you hadn’t felt what I had felt.” Jinyoung cupped your cheeks in his hands, his eyes washing over you appreciatively. “At first I convinced myself that you and I shouldn’t belong together, but I knew it was a fruitless attempt. I also didn’t want to force this on you, if it wasn’t what you wanted. I could live with knowing you were safe but then I heard you screaming.”
“Is that how you heard me? From all the way over here, because of our bond?” you asked, suddenly clicking onto things. “So you broke me out of my cage and brought me here?”
“Mm. I couldn’t let you suffer. If I had known he was like that, believe me when I say I would have come for you in an instant.”
You could see the honesty in his words, the anger at what had happened to you boiling to the surface.
“Shh. I am okay,” you reassured him, running your hands through his hair soothingly.
“At first I wasn’t going to go near you. I would let you be and not overcrowd you. The first night you were here and you had that nightmare. I couldn’t control myself. I needed to help you.”
“And I am so very grateful you did. That was the first time I saw you. Really saw you.”
“Really saw me half naked you mean.”
You pushed him playfully, the smile in his eyes coming back to him.
“You were vulnerable in front of me. I saw the panic in your eyes as you woke me up, Jinyoung. I didn’t know at the time what that meant, but now I do.”
You squeezed his hand tightly, smiling yourself as you realised what you had to do.
“You are the first man in my life that has let me take charge of myself. Yes you saved me, more times than I knew, but you gave me my space to figure things out on my own. I will be eternally grateful for that.”
“Of course. You are your own woman, Y/N. Not someone’s possession.”
“Even if we are bonded mates?”
“Even more so. Just because you are my mate, does not mean you have to accept it. I want you to, believe me.”
You smiled at his honesty, nodding your head lightly as your eyes moved from his to soak in the rest of his room.
“And if you choose to reject me. I will accept that choice, for it is entirely your own. I will remain sad and lonely for the rest of my days without you, but knowing you’re safe and well is all I need in this life.” Jinyoung sighed heavily, waiting for you to respond.
You returned your gaze to the man before you. Never in your wildest dreams would you have thought to hear the story of how you were connected. Especially with him. But you knew he wasn’t lying to you. Everything he had told you was true, you could feel it in your bones, your very being. Knowing what you knew now about the necklaces, your mother had told you tales of what would happen with the matching pair if it were to ever be found. You had believed them to be a folklore, one that people passed through generations to keep them believing in love.
And yet it was true.
Your soul called out to him in that very moment.
“Luckily you won't have to find out.”
Jinyoung stilled, his eyes growing rounded at your words, “Really?”
“I choose you, Jinyoung. Over and over I choose you.”
Jinyoung fell to his knees, tears of joy enveloping him as you fell to the floor too, your hands cradling his cheeks as you leaned in to kiss him.
Sparks flew, your bodies both igniting with the touch of the other as the kiss deepened. You let out a gasp of air as your tongues met, dancing with one another once more. Jinyoung pulled you into him, your chests meeting as you felt his heart beat in time with yours.
It was if everything had changed again between the two of you as soon as the words left your mouth. Earlier on in the day, the connection was unlike anything you had ever felt, but now? It was on another level entirely. It was as if the two of you were one. Your souls intertwined, not knowing where one began and the other ended. It felt like ecstasy. You felt whole again.
You knew now that you wouldn’t want to change a thing, the way your life had been, all the moments of hardship and suffering led to this.
Right here. Right now.
You broke the kiss, your eyes soaking in your lover, your mate. Jinyoung ran his hand through your hair adoringly, sweeping some of it to the side as his lips made contact with the skin on your collarbone.
“You are free my little bird.” Jinyoung mumbled as he continued to kiss your skin.
You chuckled softly at the new nickname. He was right. You were free now, for he had rescued you and in turn you saved each other. You couldn’t be happier than in this very moment, laughing joyfully as it sent vibrations through his chest.
You were finally uncaged.

Chapter I

Currently sitting in front of your manager you eyed him. He seemed tired and you felt a pang of conscience it was probably because of your tweets last night and you wouldn’t even think of meeting him if you weren’t in dire need of getaway from the uncomfortable conversation with your neighbor. You didn’t meet in your agency’s building since both of you despised the place even though it was a new and flashy building made out of something that looked like a white marble. Both of you agreed on meeting outside it, so you were sitting in the café nearby while wondering how did your shitty boss manage to rent it. Last time you’ve been here, it was a few rooms in shabby, old building. You shivered while imagining going in, that place had an evil aura even from across the street.
"Where did you get all that money to rent it?" you asked.
"We actually bought it."
"Well, business goes well then."
"Actually we are only able thanks to your movies. Don’t tell Kim Pd-nim I told you, he thinks you'll become arrogant."
"I already am." You smiled coldly.
"That's what I told him."
Your manager had a sarcastic smirk on. Both of you and hated your CEO and even mentioning him would bring up unpleasant memories. Kim Sanghoon was one of those bosses who wouldn't even think about trying to help idols and stars that were bringing him money. No matter what it was — crazy fans destroying your life, death threats, your collapsing mental health he didn’t care. Once you were attacked by media and netizens you were on your own and if it was too much for the company your contract was terminated. You often wondered when would you become too much for them to handle.
"How do you feel?" Your manager caught you off guard, even though you had known each other for a long time there was an unspoken rule between you not to talk about other things than work.
"Honesty..I'm fine I don't understand why everyone asks me that." You huffed a bit irritated and run fingers through your hair.
"Well it's just.. I know it was important to you and you worked hard to earn the hearts of your Korean fa..."
"I'm fine." you didn't manage to hide irritation in your voice. You were not used to talking about it and you didn't like it one bit. Besides what were you supposed to say anyway? No one else was as hated as you. Of course there were idols and stars that were occasionally criticized but not one of them was constantly a target of such hatred. Even when you left there were still death threats send from your motherland to you, nothing changed. Not to mention no one else got such welcoming on the day of return to their home. It was unfair, stupid, infuriating and saddening. And yet you couldn’t understand what people were expecting of you? Both Mark and your manager knew you, or so you thought. What were you supposed to do? Cry? You wouldn't cry, that was what weak people do, that would show you actually care about what those assholes think about you. You were just fine. Ok. Neither sad nor happy. You'd endure whatever you had to but you won't conform to their image of idol and woman nor will you show any sign of weakness. You'd rather stay hated than do that. Your manager sighed and it pulled you out of your thoughts.
"Well then. If you're okay then I'm glad. So just as I told you I have this drama for you if you're interested." You weren't the slightest bit. Frankly you'd rather stay in bed for the next three months jobless than play some crazy villain or villainous second female lead. Then again you felt bad about the amount of work he probably had because of you. You looked him in the eyes and answered with a sigh.
"I can't promise anything but I can at least listen what it’s about.." Your manager seemed surprised, but he didn't wait long, perhaps in case you'd change your mind. He took out some papers and handed them to you. You cringed on the sole title "Love is your destiny" — it sounded sappy.
"So it's a love story between fallen angel and this human..." he started.
"Angels...so who do they want me to play? Satan? Devil? Succubus?" You browsed through pages to find the villain.
"You'd know if you'd let me finish." You sent him a small apologetic smile. "They want you to play the main role." You stared at him confused before you burst with laughter.
"They want me to play cute girl in love with the angel?" The idea of you playing the sweet female lead was absurd, not that you weren’t able to do it, you were a good actress it wouldn’t be a problem for you, if anything it would most likely be a challenge for the audience.
"No, no! You'd play the angel. See this is drama with strong female lead. The origin of your character is fascinating. You had to watch the mistreatment of a woman extremely devoted to god. The lady prayed, but she still got beaten, almost killed even. Moreover, you had to be the guardian angel of her torturer — the aggressive husband. You pleaded to god, you asked him to let you guard her instead, but he didn’t agree and forbade you from intervening. One night when the husband got drunk, he beat her unconscious and you were sure he’d kill her. You decided to save her, you kill her husband and this is the moment when you fell. That's when you became deviant and promised yourself you'd help those who were denied it. You’d protect them and avenge them. Fast-forward a thousand years, and we are in Seoul and you meet a man, a painter..." He was so excited you almost didn't understand some words because of the speed. He was waiting for your response but you were too occupied with reading what he handed you. Once you finished it you looked at him with a mix of surprise and excitement.
"It's like it was made for me.." you said with bewildered tone.
"That's because it was made for you. The screenwriter wrote it with you in mind." You looked like a cartoon character, eyes wide, mouth in a shape of letter "o", once you heard him.
"Me?"
"Yes. She is apparently a big fan."
"And tvN is ok with that?" You furrowed your brows confused.
"Perhaps they aren't. But it is co-production with Netflix, and they pushed for you since you’re popular worldwide."
Your heart fluttered and the tips of your fingers tingled from excitement as you rummaged through the pages once again, not only it would be showed in TV during the prime-time but also streamed on Netflix weekly.
"The screenwriter and producer kept calling me since yesterday as soon as it was known you came back. They almost cast someone else. They were sure you're staying in the USA. Isn't it amazing?" He was as excited as you were and you felt some remorse for being so rude to him before. You gave him your warmest smile, one you usually used only around Mark and your family.
"It really is. Thank you and I'm sorry for being rude earlier." He was clearly uncomfortable with your apology, red spreading on his cheeks as he waved his hand dismissively.
"Ah don't mention it. Does that mean I can call them and say you are interested." You looked at the pages in front of you once again and smiled broadly before simply saying.
"Yes!"
Jinyoung was still amused you threatened him in his own café. He couldn't focus on the book he had in his hands anymore as he chuckled replying your angered and irritated expressions in his head. It was fun to tease you because you reacted so well. He could tell you could be great friends if you'd let him. He smiled to himself mouthing your own words "bloody Y/N". He was truly shocked that he met you here of all places and found it rather amusing when you yelled in English and caught his attention. He felt some disappointment upon seeing a half naked man talking to you from the screen of your phone but the feeling disappeared as quickly as it came up once your friend ended the call. Jinyoung wouldn't call himself a noisy person, but he found you interesting, and he wanted to know who it was and what kind of relationship you had although he rarely cared for stuff like this... His thoughts were interrupted by his ring-tone, BamBam's face illuminated the screen. He sighed but answered it anyway.
"Skrrrt, skrrt!"
"Ah yes, good morning to you to Bam." Jinyoung said in amused tone.
"Oh, hyung you seem in good mood. What you're up to?"
"Reading, thinking."
"Sounds boring wanna hang out?"
"Actually I wanted to ask you about something." Jinyoung ignored his question once he remembered how obsessed with celebrities and their styles Bam was.
"Shoot."
"Do you know any celebrities under the name Y/N." BamBam laughed wholeheartedly.
"That's very funny hyung."
"What do you mean?"
"OMG you're not joking! Are you living under a rock, hyung? Y/N is like the hottest actress ever. Her style is chic and comfy and artsy it's really cool, and she actually doesn't have a stylist, she does it on her ow..."
"She is an actress?"
"She is the actress! She played the White Fox in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lol, you call yourself an actor and you don't know the most popular Korean actress abroad."
"You know I don't like those superheroes movies. Besides why didn't I hear about her Korean career if she's so good?"
"You are so old it scares me sometimes. Well you should know her from internet. I think it's national sport to hate her or something. She just came back, and they're already frying her online not to mention the media and dating rumors."
"Dating rumors?"
"Yeah she dated few actors. I think Seojoon hyung dated her and Changwook hyung even almost proposed. The media made her to look like heartless vixen though. I mean they never liked her but her last ex gave a very unfavorable interview to dispatch and after that she became villain number one. She left shortly after."
"Mmmm... I see." Jinyoung only started his career four years ago so it shouldn't be weird you've never met before. He was also the type of person who couldn't care less about internet gossip and gutter press or dispatch. He sighed. Suddenly your angry reaction made much more sense and Jinyoung didn't feel as good about it as he did before. He scolded himself for being too frivolous and selfish. He just wanted to see your reactions - it was cute and funny...
"Why did you ask? OMG you've met her didn't you. I'm so jealous. What was she wearing? Was it Gucci? I heard she likes it."
"Ok Bam. I have to go. Thanks for the talk."
"Wait, so you wanna hang out?"
"Last time when you asked me to hang out I had to shop for 4 hours with you."
"Well... I am your stylist. Besides, it was fun, come on."
"I think we have different definitions of "fun""
You woke up to no noise pleasantly surprised. It seems that Sunday's were free from renovation and thanks to that you could sleep in. You stretched out and grabbed the phone to check the time. It was already past eleven. You smiled to yourself and fell to bed lazily. Soon you wouldn't have time for lazy days like this as the production team was supposed to finish up casting for the drama by the end of the next week. You thought about picking some groceries, maybe cooking yourself some food and enjoying the day with a book or perhaps some video games. You took shower and put on some comfortable clothes — beige cardigan you stole from Mark clearly too big for you and some black trousers pairing it up with brown coat. You left the apartment and as soon as you did the irritating voice in your head reminded you about your debt. Hesitant at first you shook off the feeling quickly and knocked on the door. This time you were prepared for teasing, you were expecting it even so you wouldn't be caught off guard. At least that's what you were telling yourself. Your neighbor, however, didn't act the way you expected him to. Instead of smirking at you and teasing you or straight up mocking you, he seemed nervous. He had deep purple bags under his usually sparkling eyes. Perhaps he didn’t feel well... you wondered whether you should ask him if he needed some help. You decided it would be extremely awkward and so you cleared your throat and spoke up — softness now somewhere in your voice.
"Is that bad time? I can come later I just wanted to give you back your money.."
"N-No." He started nervously "I mean no. It's fine. I'm actually glad you're here. Would you come in?"
You didn't want to come in and it must have shown on your face since he continued.
"Come on. I don't bite." He smiled warmly and it seemed much more normal than the timid self he showed you seconds ago. And so you came in curiously looking around his own apartment. It was a mirror image of your own in terms of room placements — a hallway leading to living room with opened kitchen. You came into the living room and Jinyoung rushed after you quickly turning the TV off. You didn't pay it any mind since you were looking around and taking in how different was his home compared to yours. It was very modern and yet it kept the homey feeling. Yours on the other hand, well it was raw yet full of stuff? Mark would probably call it unfinished and cluttered. Your neighbor sat on the other side of the couch leaving quite a lot of space between the two of you and run a hand through his hair. He wore a cardigan very similar to yours both in color and style in fact it could be the very same brand and style it’s just neither of you noticed it.
"So what did you want to talk about?"
"I wanted to apologize." He responded quickly and gained a surprised look from you.
"Apologize?"
"Yes about yesterday…I shouldn't have said those things in public I could say I just didn't know about your situation but it’s no excuse. I’m truly sorry." he paused. "You don't have to be stressed about press or rumors though. It is my café and my staff, so they won't talk about it with anyone I took care of it." You took back everything you said, you weren’t prepared for meeting him, especially not getting apologies from him. On top of that he was the owner of your favorite café...
"I… it's fine." You said confused and tried to act as normal as possible while being very aware of your palms spread on your thighs. They were unnaturally clammy. It was a surprise to you, you rarely got any apologies and you were expecting some more teasing not something like that. Your eyes were everywhere except on him and you were screaming at yourself internally to say something, anything, but nothing was coming to your mind. Once again you lost your ability for forming witty sentences around him or in that case any sentences. There was awkward silence between you and you immensely regretted coming to see him today. You weren’t used to this. Somewhere in your belly you could feel as if butterflies - or rather moths — yes, moths of anxiety were fluttering their wings desperately trying to get into your chest. You never felt like this before. You tried to avoid looking at him but your own eyes betrayed you and fell on Jinyoung only to find out he was enjoying your anguish. His brown eyes were glimmering and his lips formed half smirk that he tried to cover with his left hand in a gesture of propping his head up. Immediately irritation came to you burning all the fluttering wings in the pits of your stomach. A frown formed on your face and you send him a glare. Wondering how could you be so stupid and fall for his act.
"You're really cute when you're shy or embarrassed." He chuckled now mocking you openly.
"I can't believe I took your apologies as sincere." He chuckled again clearly pleased with how you responded.
"They were sincere. I just enjoy teasing you."
"Could you stop? That's inappropriate you don't even know me."
"What do you mean we are neighbors and soon to be friends." He smiled broadly and for a second your mind travelled somewhere else simply admiring his beauty. You cursed his handsome face it could blind and charm everyone really. You wanted to leave, no you needed to leave. It was stuffy in here.
"I'm here for a reason." You reminded him, he was watching you with amusement. It felt almost as if a cat was observing you.
"Ah right... money." his tone seemed inattentive somehow. "I don't need it. Let's say it was a part of my apology."
"Just give me your account number and take the money."
"I don't remember it." You were getting more irritated every minute you talked to him.
"You don't remember your account number?" This man was unbelievable. He shrugged.
"You can send it to me through KakaoTalk if you really want." He smiled and took out the phone from the pocket of his pants.
"Fine. Just give it." Not wanting to spend any second longer here with him, you scanned his qr to add him quickly and transferred the money.
"Done. Now if you excuse me."
"Of course." He smiled again and you felt mocked by the sole action of his lips shooting upwards. He walked you to the door and watched as you slipped on your shoes. You tried to look as cold and dignified as possible but still tripped over the doorstep. He caught your arm firmly and straightened you. Your heart was beating so fast and hard all you could hear was blood pumping in your ears in fact you were sure he could hear it as well. On the other hand whose heart wouldn't when you almost fell face first, right…? Right? It surely wasn't because of his warm breath now tickling the crown of your head, nor the dangerously beautiful eyes... you absolutely regretted coming here today. It was foolish of you to think your cursed neighbor wouldn't shake you up today. And he was still holding you — how awkward is that; and you felt fine with being hold like that — what on earth was wrong with you? You started to think that maybe it would be better if you'd actually fell and hit that stupid head of yours.
Jinyoung was having very dangerous thoughts. The kind he didn't have in a very long time. He wasn't prepared for this kind of proximity. He was already shaken up yesterday by your touch and closeness he only held your hand for a second or two. Maybe he didn't show it but he was. Honestly he wasn't even into PDA or flirting with someone or even thinking of flirting with someone. Yes, he liked teasing, and he teased you but it was in a FRIENDLY manner. Well it was safe to say he didn't have friendshippy type of thoughts right now. Jinyoung reacted automatically upon seeing you fall he just grabbed your arm and pulled you his way. He was still holding your now tensed muscles, but he couldn't let go of you. He was in trance. Your warmth radiating onto him, the way the smell of your shampoo was tingling his nose, your huge doe-like shocked eyes, parted lips, soft pink on the apples of your cheeks. He was wondering how badly would you kill him if he asked to kiss you right now. He was seriously considering it worthy asking even if you were to pull out his tongue like you threatened yesterday. He didn't ask though, the rational part of his brain finally letting go of you. His own feeling were mess, but he did what he knew best — he masked his emotional disarray with some more teasing hoping you wouldn’t notice.
"Falling for me already?" He smirked even though internally he was screaming and already thinking of confiding in Jackson to get himself calmed. He was clearly the one falling and he was panicked. You rolled your eyes on him seemingly gaining the composure while he was getting stunned even by such simple gesture like this.
"You're way below my standards." You seemed annoyed. He smiled again although he wanted you to leave quickly and leave him alone with his feelings, so he can sort this out. Your eyes narrowed at him even more.
"I need to go now."
"Well, have a great day."
"Right, you too." You were so cold Jinyoung almost chuckled at it because it almost wounded him, and yet he liked it. He enjoyed teasing you too much. You were already walking to the elevator, but he couldn't help himself.
"Oh, and try not to fall when I'm not around to catch you, Y/N." He laughed and you were already frowning at him absolutely mad which made his heart skip a beat, you were really too cute when you frowned. Jinyoung closed the door before you could say anything or worse before he did. He realized he was in deep shit. He tried to think reasonably. He probably just had a crush because he spent a whole night watching movies and dramas you were starring in, he might have also accidentally watched all of your interviews and went to sleep at 6 still smiling to himself from that interview where you had to answer questions about your body in preparation for your role in that Marvel movie. The reporter wouldn't stop asking about your body and making comments on it even though you were clearly uninterested in the topic which you finally cut with your own questions. "Are you looking for some weight loss tips? You look great. Seriously what is it about? Are you trying to fit in my suit?" The last question was asked with whole whisper theatrics and Jinyoung laughed at loud at five am hoping he didn't wake you up through the wall. The suit in question was extremely fitting white leather catsuit. It wasn't the only interview in which you showed off your wits, eloquence and badassness, or how Bam would call it "swag". You were also the most attractive actress he had seen. Of course, you were also attractive when you weren't acting but on the screen... you were amazing. So Jinyoung tried to calm himself down rationalizing his earlier thoughts as simply being starstrucked. That’s what fans felt towards their idols, he was simply charmed by his own new idol. Yes that was it — that’s exactly the type of thoughts some fanboys or fangirls would have. He called Jackson anyway, he knew the designer was the right person to talk to in situations like this.
Twenty minutes later Jinyoung regretted ever calling his best friend.
"OH MY GOD YOU ARE SO IN LOVE WITH HER!" Jackson basically yelled to the phone. Jinyoung groaned and massaged the space between his brows.
"Were you even listening? I'm just a big fan."
"Yeah, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night man. I’m a big fan of Christian Dior and all I can think of is making out with him."
"Don’t compare it, he is dead!" Jinyoung yelled and his friend filled his ear in response.
You were regretting not taking the car for shopping. The walk did help with your racing heart, and helped ease off your mind but it turned out the supermarket isn't that close any more when you have to drag home ten bags of food and products. Thankfully a convenience store was on your way so you could make a stop there maybe you'd be lucky enough to see Seoyun, buy her coffee and have a chat. You knew it was stupid, because she could've just feel obliged to say she is your fan but you still wanted to tell her about your new upcoming role. Sadly she wasn't there and so you just made a stop and sat on one of nearby benches. Massaging your palms that had those harsh red lines imprinted in them now thanks to the bags. You could swear you heard the sound of released shutter and so now alarmed you looked around but it seemed you were the only person here. You sighed, how paranoid have you become that you started hearing the cameras when there was none. Then again you were extremely lucky dispatch and paparazzi haven't found you yet. Just before you left to the USA, your ex gave this interview and your life became hell. You didn't have a day without paparazzi running after you or spying on you. The memories came to you not without acrimony and hurt. Your ex, an actor just like you, used you to create scandal and gain some popularity. You could remember how enraged and morose it made you. You didn't date anyone since then even when Mark tried to introduce you to some people. You intended on staying that way. You didn't need anyone, you had Mark, and he was enough for you. Just you and your best friend. You weren't sure how long you stayed like this, deep in your thoughts. You moved only after you fingers became stiff from cold. Somehow you managed to carry the groceries back home. You were so tired that you just counted it as your training today. You checked the time and it was one PM, perfect time to call your bestie.
"Markiee!!" You whined as soon as his face appeared on your screen.
"Y/N-ah. I miss you." He was wearing some blue hoodie this time.
"That's my line. Do you have time to talk?"
"Bruh, for you? Always. What's up?"
"I am going to star in a drama!"
"What? I thought you hate those." He was genuinely shocked.
"I know, I do. But this one is different. I'm not playing the villain I got female lead, and she isn't some damsel in distress she is a badass character!" You almost screamed and he chuckled.
"Woah. Someone's excited. I'm so proud of you. So who is getting the privilege to be cast with you?"
"I don't know yet. I'm supposed to meet the cast next week." He nodded his head and smiled. "Anyway what are you up to?"
"I was actually thinking of playing Among Us and streaming wanna join?" He grinned.
"Absolutely, prepare to get wrecked Tuan." You used to play together at least once a week when you were in the USA, his fans loved you and shipped you even though you both told them you were just friends — it is some rule in the internet though, to ship close friends.
Few hours later you were once again killed as the first person, this time by Mark.
"YOU GONNA REGRET IT WHEN WE’LL MEET TUAN. I SWEAR I’M GONNA WHOOP YO ASS..." You screamed on top of your lungs and Mark laughed wholeheartedly, while his chat filled up with hundreds of LOL’s and LUL’s.
"You guys she threatens me. Someone make a clip and send it to the police once they find my dead body." He kept laughing and you couldn’t help but laugh as well. His smile and laugh were just too contagious.
"You really put our friendship to test lately Tuan, here I was foolishly trusting you when you killed me in cold blood. " You stretched and your stomach rumbled reminding you that you haven’t eaten yet and it was already around four pm.
" Hey don’t hate the player, hate the game. " He shrugged and winked, while you rolled your eyes.
"Okay Mark, I gotta go and eat. It’s already afternoon here."
"Sure, chat say bye to Y/N." They did as he asked and it was soon filled with many hearts and goodbyes. "Love you Y/N! Call me soon." He grinned and you smiled warmly.
"Love you too Mark. Bye guys!" With that you logged off the discord, and switched off his stream. You make your way to the kitchen and took out the ingredients for kimchi jjigae you bought before. You carefully read the recipe opened on your phone and began cooking. You had to make anchovy stock first so you grabbed some dried anchovies, kelp and slashed the daikon in cubicles — it looked quite awkward as each cubicle was different size but hey it was you eating it not some kind of culinary critic. You added water and left it to boil deciding to take care of the rest of ingredients. You cut some kimchi and ate some as a snack and reward for not ordering food today, sliced some green onions, cut the pork and the tofu as well. By the time you were done it was time to strain the broth and add the rest of ingredients. It had to cook so you decided to watch some TV in the meantime. You turned it on, it was some kind of reality show where idols were supposed to camp in the wild for a few days. The idols clearly didn’t feel like being there and the fact you knew neither of them didn’t help. You dozed off before you noticed, your eyelids getting as heavy as iron. The smell of burning woke you up. You shot upwards from your couch and rushed to the kitchen, bumping into a coffee table on your way there.
"FFFFFF-UUCK." you hissed, when your shin pulsed with pain. You quickly grabbed the pot with stew to get it off the fire, forgetting it would be hot as well. You hissed in pain and let id drop on your marble floor which was now covered in burned kimchi and some other things. "Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fucking shit." You cursed as you tried to navigate to the sink to ease off the burn with some cold water. The cold water did help and you sighed with relief only to later follow it with a sigh of resignation. You had to clean up this mess. It was when your phone barked — a new message. You checked it.
From Unknown number: Are you trying to burn down the whole building?
You furrowed your brows confused, wondering if it was one of those jokes or spam messages you heard about.
To Unknown number: Who’s this?
From Unknown number: Guess.
You huffed in disbelief.
To Unknown number: Ok, enjoy being blocked.
From Unknown number: Wait!
From Unknown number: It’s Jinyoung.
To Unknown number: How did you get my number? Never mind I’m blocking you I’m too busy to deal with you.
With that you put the phone back in your pocket and began cleaning up. You finished in no time now tired out by scrubbing. You sat on the floor and took out your phone to check it out. From Unknown number: Don’t block me what if you need my help one day.
To Unknown number: With what exactly?
From Unknown number: What if you get stuck in your bathroom and need someone to let you out?
You rolled your eyes and saved his contact

You were bewildered, was that his plan from the very beginning or were you just paranoid? You were either prejudiced or he was in fact the devil with angel's face.

You couldn’t believe it, the audacity, the smugness. You could feel irritation building inside you but you decide to let it go when your stomach rumbled at you aggressively. After eating you took shower, read a few chapters of The Vegetarian and fell asleep.
Next week passed quickly but in the feeling of anticipation as you were supposed to meet the rest of the cast as well as the scriptwriter and director at the meeting on Friday. You kept calling your manager throughout the week trying to find out who could they be, but he didn’t know anything or didn’t want to tell you. And so you spent the week on training, running, reading and occasionally calling Mark to express your impatience and excitement. You didn’t meet your irritating neighbor even once this week — something you counted as blessing or perhaps a sign that the universe finally turned your karma around. It was finally Friday and you were already sitting in the meeting room waiting for everyone to come in. You smiled at the young man sitting next to you, he was really cute and had this mole under his right eye it added to his charm. He was about to introduce himself, when someone came through the door and greeted everyone cheerfully. You couldn’t believe it. You were cursed, actually cursed.
"YOU?!" was all that left your mouth upon seeing him entering the room.

The car drove into the night. Jaebeom gazed out the window, elbow propped on the door and his fingers against his lips. He could still taste you on his tongue.
Jinyoung frowned, whispering, “I have a bad feeling about this.”
“I know he’s pulling Yuto’s strings,” Jaebeom murmured bitterly, the lights reflecting in his dark eyes. “He put the idea in his head.”
Jinyoung exhaled roughly, like it pained him.
“I have to go through with this, Jinyoung,” Jaebeom cut through the silence, thinking of you. “This is the only move he’s not anticipating. I have to draw him out.”
Jinyoung bobbed his head. He knew the plan. Jaebeom had discussed it with him and only him at length. No decision Jaebeom made went without Jinyoung’s consultation. Jaebeom respected his knowledge and discernment.
It wasn’t that Jinyoung disagreed with the move. He just knew the danger that would come with it.
Meanwhile, you rejoined the party after smoothing down your dress. Jaebeom’s kisses still caused your heart to race wildly. Glancing around, you couldn’t hide your disappointment at not seeing your husband. Jaebeom left immediately after parting from you, just as he said he would, but that did nothing to ease your heartache. You wanted to be in his arms again.
Gliding across the main hall to find your mother where she sat, someone slipped into your path and gathered you in their arms. It took a moment of confusion for you to realize Yuto was taking you for a spin amidst the dancing couples and your first instinct was to claw out his eyes.
“Behave,” he warned under his breath. “Your lovely mother is watching.”
You scowled at his grin and followed his line of sight, seeing he was flashing a smile at your mother seated at the distant table. With no other options in a room full of shareholders, you put a hand on his shoulder and followed his steps.
“Do mine eyes deceive me or did you just step out of the women’s lavatory?”
You growled, “Does relieving my bladder interest you?”
Yuto could barely stifle his annoyance. “I find it interesting that Jaebeom also came out of the same bathroom.”
Though Yuto studied your face for a reaction, you gave him nothing. It didn’t surprise you he was watching. You expected it. “He must have been lost,” you replied, noncommittal.
Yuto tightened his grasp around your waist and leaned in closer to whisper in your ear, “My sweet sister, you disobeyed me.”
“I did what you wanted. I broke his heart. I filed for the annulment. In exchange, you don’t touch him.”
Yuto clicked his tongue, spinning you in a quick circle. “You only lasted nine days,” he taunted. “I’m disappointed.”
“I hurt him,” you said, reminded of the image of Jaebeom on his knees. “He’ll never trust me again.”
Yuto pursed his lips in frustration. “You didn’t do enough damage.”
Those words cut you deep and filled you with rage. Gripping his arm roughly, you hissed, “Yuto, one more word and I will have my father tear you to pieces.”
“I’ve enjoyed this dance, Mrs. Lim,” he crooned, pulling your hand to his lips and kissing your knuckles.
You ripped your hand away, wiping it on your dress. “You got what you wanted. The annulment will affect investor confidence. Jaebeom will step aside. You’ll have Lim Corp.”
Jaebeom never wanted it anyway, you thought to yourself.
Yuto smirked and sauntered away without another word. You glared daggers into his back.
Hwasa appeared at your side forcefully and you then realized why Yuto was quick to depart from you. He must have seen her coming and everyone knew Hwasa was not afraid to cause a spectacle.
“Shit. I’m sorry. I was making out in the coat room,” she huffed, pulling your arm to loop with hers. “Are you okay?”
You patted her hand. “It’s fine. We had a very productive, civil conversation.”
“Really?” she gawked.
“No.”
Hwasa shook her head in amusement. “Ready to go back to my place and eat junk food?”
“Yes, please.”
Hwasa had given you an open, extended invitation to stay at her penthouse for as long as you desired. You readily accepted the offer, preferring her company than that of your unbearable mother.
You curled up in the guest bed and tried not to think about Jaebeom. You missed how he smelled. How warm he felt against your back. You wondered if he was thinking of you. Was he drowning his sorrows with strong liquor?
Rolling over, you grumbled and pulled the blankets higher around you, but it did nothing for your tossing and turning. You weren’t the type to use the word madness often, but this was it.
Eventually, you fell asleep and it felt like only a moment later you were rudely woken by the door crashing open. Jolting beneath the blankets, you sat up and exclaimed, “What the hell?”
Hwasa grabbed the remote to your television and said, “You have to see this.”
The screen came to life and she panned to the news. You could hardly believe your eyes.
“Lim Corp is now solely run by heir apparent, Lim Jaebeom.”
“What?” you gasped, settling on your knees and reading every word that scanned across the screen.
The anchorwoman continued, “The takeover occurred last night when Lim presented the signatures of every member of the board needed to unseat his father and become Chief Executive and…”
Her voice faded in the background as you searched your brain for an answer. Jaebeom was dreading the day he would be the head of Lim Corp. What had possessed him to do this?
It could only mean that for the last nine days Jaebeom had set out to campaign for and win the votes from the entire board of the corporation, men that had served his father faithfully for decades. Jaebeom would have had to manipulate them and blackmail them to earn their votes.
Jaebeom wouldn’t do that, you thought with a resistant shake of your head. Another explanation crossed your mind. One that was much more plausible.
He managed to convince them his father was no longer fit to rule.
You rubbed your face, pushing away the sleep. Jaebeom’s father would be murderous. He would fight this to the death. That man valued his power above everything else. Including his own sons.
Hwasa turned to you and said, “This has to be about Yuto.”
“Oh, god,” you murmured, shaking your head. “If Jaebeom went to all the board members and told them about Yuto - how his father has been hiding a bastard son all these years.”
Hwasa nodded. “The stocks would plummet. The future head of the company would technically be up in the air. Bastard or not. He could still contend for a seat at the table.”
You scoffed, not amused. “If it’s one thing we’ve learned as heiresses, men will live and die by their damned stock prices.”
Hwasa snorted.
You moved to the edge of the bed, letting your legs dangle off the side, and folded your arms across your chest. It still was out of character for the boy you knew and loved. “Things like this don’t just happen,” you mulled, referring to the takeover. “The chairmen of the board would have had to be completely unanimous in the decision.”
Hwasa sidled next to you on the bed and suggested, “He seized the company so Yuto couldn’t?”
You sighed, “I don’t understand. Jaebeom doesn’t want this company.”
“Then, he did it to spite his father?”
You chuckled and defended your husband, “No, Jaebeom does petty things out of spite. He does big things out of strategy.”
Hwasa looked back at the television, the coverage still fixated on Lim Corp. “Yeah, but…,” she continued. “The person most hurt by this is Jaebeom’s father. He’s been deposed.”
You never liked to think about your father-in-law. He was kind to you, but he was ruthless to Jaebeom. Your husband had finally begun to confide in you just how merciless his father had become as the ruling tyrant of a powerful company.
You had plenty of memories of your own where Mr. Lim was concerned. There was a reason you feared and avoided him as a child.
“Jaebeom’s father has always used Yuto against him,” you explained softly. “Always threatened that if Jaebeom didn’t prove himself worthy, he would make Yuto the heir.”
Hwasa wasn’t surprised, and was swift to add, “And Yuto has been making a name for himself in Japan. Trying to prove to his father he’s a better fit than Jaebeom.”
You grit your teeth angrily. “Jaebeom told me his father hates that he has a soft streak and has been trying to break it out of him ever since.”
Hwasa exhaled, lifting the remote and turning off the TV.
You looked down at your hand, lingering your gaze on your wedding ring.
Hwasa brought a palm to your shoulder, rubbing gently.
“Can we go out? I can’t spend every day thinking about Jaebeom,” you whispered, almost shameful.
“He is your husband,” Hwasa teased, trying to make you smile.
“Shopping?”
She clapped her hands and leapt from the bed. “Excellent idea!”
You knew that would work.
Hwasa drifted from boutique to boutique, dragging you along. With time and her constant energy, you enjoyed yourself, trying desperately to put Jaebeom out of your mind. You wanted to call and ask him why. Not that he would ever give you a solid answer.
You trusted he knew what he was doing. Jaebeom surrounded himself with smart people, people that had his best interest in mind. You convinced yourself Jaebeom was doing whatever he had to do to fix it. To make it so you could be together again.
Everywhere you went people were abuzz with the news. Lim Corp was one of the largest companies in the country. The takeover was national news.
With Hwasa’s limousine sufficiently stacked with shopping bags, the two of you took to walking through the plaza, sharing a cup of rice cakes. You appreciated the comfortable silence in the company of your best friend.
“Who were you making out with at the gala?” you asked a moment later.
Hwasa finished the rice cake in her mouth and chattered, “Oh my gosh, you remember that hot guy friend of a friend of Jinwoo’s?”
“Friend of a friend twice removed?” you teased with a laugh.
“Ugh, kisses like the devil himself,” she purred, licking her lips.
You chortled, tossing the now empty cup into the trash bin you passed by. Surrounded in a sea of people, you didn’t notice the man following closely in your wake.
Gunshots fired behind you and Hwasa. So close your ears began to ring. Fight or flight response kicked in, but your body chose to freeze.
An arm appeared around your waist and in an instant you were being dragged backwards.
Screams filled the plaza. Hwasa had her hands raised at her sides in the universal gesture of surrender, but her voice was muffled in your ears. She was pleading with someone, begging them not to hurt you.
Your captor backed against one of the pillars in the square, holding you like a human shield in front of him. You couldn’t breathe. You couldn’t think.
Hwasa was screaming for help, dialing frantically at her phone. A security guard raced forward from god only knew where and leveled his gun at the man currently holding you in possession, but given your position, the barrel of his gun was pointed directly at you.
“H-Hwasa,” you finally managed to say. The arm around you immediately tightened.
Your ears began to clear from the pounding flood of adrenaline. Whatever exchange between the man holding you captive and the officer aiming at you both was suddenly paramount in your mind.
“Tell me what you want,” shouted the guard. Hwasa was at his shoulder, revealing to him who you were and yelling angrily into her phone.
The words that followed from the man clutching you against him made your blood run cold, “I want you to tell Lim Jaebeom that I have his wife and if he’s not here in fifteen minutes, I’m going to shoot her…”

Lying upon the cart, you wished to be dead. It was ironic that in the beginning, this very cart had transported you into this world as Jinyoung’s treasure. Now, he laid beside you, unmoving. Fresh tears soaked through his shirt, your head strewn across his chest, hoping for a glimpse of his heartbeat.
Tired eyes lingered at the body next to him and you reached out for Jackson, shaking as the wound continued to stain through any bandaging Jaebum had done. You wondered if Jackson’s body would ever dry up.
Jinyoung’s only seemed to maintain what blood he had due to the sword still embedded in him.
The remaining fight had ended once Argo was dead, his men looking between each other for guidance.
“Should we kill who remains?”
“Let’s say they’re all dead, they might as well be,” another decided, backing off and holding his hands up in surrender. They soon departed the battle site, leaving behind their fallen leader and men, and you to mourn your losses.
“Don’t remove the sword from him,” Jaebum said in all but a whisper, cutting Argo’s limb away and freeing him from the hunter.
You had been numb to the whole procedure, unable to help the three men pick up what you still had, merely stumbling along with Jinyoung’s body as they carried it to the cart now attached to Jinyoung’s horse. You had silently climbed up then, curling up beside Jinyoung and had laid there ever since.
You wished for something or someone to rid you of the excruciating pain that burdened your heart and mind. Flashes of your life shared with Jinyoung played out one by one, tormenting you further.
You already longed to see him smile again.
Eventually, you grew aware that you were no longer on land. The sea breeze was brisk and the waves choppy. You ignored all offers from the others to eat, and you lost count of how many times the sun rose and set.
You pleaded for an emptiness to overwhelm you instead of the constant memories, the ghost of Jinyoung’s lips upon your skin.
It was bittersweet when the cart finally stopped moving. You had no energy to get yourself down, Mark scooping you up and carrying you inside a small cabin.
You hated how much you relished the comfort of a bed, and the warmth of a blanket, soon drifting off into a dreamless state.
“It’s time to get up now,” Youngjae called when he finally found you awake, offering you food.
“I don’t want to eat.”
“Tough, I will force you if I have to,” he retorted, coming over to your side and holding up the spoon to some porridge. You glared at him yet he only shot one back. “How dare you not eat!”
You merely stared back at him.
“That’s what he would say, you know. He would scold you for being foolish.”
Tears slipped down your cheeks as you lowered your head. “He’s not here.”
“How do you know that? He’s always been in here,” Youngjae mentioned, reaching to touch your chest softly. “Can’t you hear him in your head telling you to get up and live on?”
“I’ve lived on without him once. I don’t want to do it again.”
“Have we held a funeral? No, now start eating or we’ll have to but for you!”
Glowering at Youngjae, you took the spoon from his grip and swallowed down a mouthful.
Your friend eased his stern expression. “There, that’s what you need to do.”

Days after awakening, you were pulling yourself up with the sun, helping Youngjae plant a vegetable garden and setting up your new home. You had no idea how you had acquired such a place but you were certain Jinyoung would have loved it here with you. It was a small farmstead, with two simple cabins. So far, you and Youngjae shared the one you had woken up in, whilst Mark and Jaebum set up in the other.
With Jackson and Jinyoung.
You hadn’t been brave enough to enter the place yet, unsure if you would be able to handle seeing his listless body again. You couldn’t seem to will yourself into death, no matter how much you had tried to. You missed Jinyoung and still cried yourself to sleep every night. Yet, you regained your strength, healing from your injuries well and soon felt back to usual self physically.
You wondered just how selfish a human could truly be to continue to survive in this world without the one person who you wanted to do everything with. You felt a coward, to still be breathing in the air that Jinyoung and Jackson should be doing as well. It bothered you when you stopped to think about it, which with your returning energy, you tried not to allow to happen often.
There was a lot to be done around the farm. Mark helped where he could, but it was Youngjae who you saw the most of each day.
Still, despite living, eating, and doing chores, you weren’t in connection with the world anymore. You hardly spoke, never smiled, and tried your best not to look too much at your remaining friends.
Each time your gaze lingered on their faces was enough to bring back the pain again, causing the air to be knocked out of your lungs and you struggled to breathe through.
“She’s having another panic attack!” Youngjae shrilled as you bent down in the garden bed, gripping at your chest with one hand and planting yourself in the soil with the other. You felt the wind brush passed you as Jaebum arrived at your side, trying to help you breathe properly again.
It was in these moments where you would see Jinyoung instead, his dark eyes etched with concern as his words of comfort fell into your hair, willing you to breathe for him again. You would watch him painfully, knowing he wasn’t there and yet your hopes would rise, all the same, your breathing returning. And then when you blinked after your ordeal, Jinyoung was no longer there, Jaebum sighing in relief that you were recovered instead.
He said it was part of the trauma you had faced with what happened that day. You wondered if that was why you started to see Jinyoung more often as well. Much as you had when living with your Grandmother, you started to talk to him as you did your chores, fond of the image of him helping you wash the vegetables you had fetched with Youngjae from the nearby village, or hanging out the washing and peeking around the corners at one another.
Even though you knew it was detrimental, you welcomed the visions.
Still, it was deep in the night where you realised just how alone you were. No image of Jinyoung could substitute the warmth of his arms that were lacking within this bed. You despised the night now, the moon and all the stars in the sky. They had lost their beauty the same time you lost the man who whispered sweet nothings upon them.
You willed for the sun to arrive quickly.
“Y/N, are you going to come in for breakfast?”
“I’m going to hang out the washing first!” you called back to a grinning Youngjae, the man looking at the cabin and then back at you.
You paid him no mind, picking up your laundered items to hang up and make the most of the drying sun. Reaching for a blanket, you struggled to hoist it over the line.
“Here, let me help you.”
“Jinyoung, don’t be silly, you’ve never hung out a single thing in your life.”
“There’s always time to learn, don’t you think?”
You smiled sadly. “It would have been nice to see you do laundry.”
“Let me try now.”
“It’s fine, I’ve got it,” you replied, blinking back your tears. You stretched up on the tips of your toes and hoisted it over the line, cursing Mark for having hung this section of the washing line too high for you to easily reach. Once the blanket fell over the line, you let out a triumphant huff of air and then spun to grab the next, losing your footing and ending up in the arms of a man you hadn’t seen in weeks.
Jinyoung smiled. “Always falling for me. It’s a bad habit of yours. How would you be able to cope in this world without me catching you each time?”
You merely blinked, trying to decipher if you had truly gone mad. His grip felt too real around your waist and there as an unmistakable level of warmth that had never once come from your hallucinations.
Shakily, you reached up for his face, gasping when you connected with his cheek. “You’re alive.”
“Well, I sure hope so. How could I leave this world whilst you’re still alive in it?”
“But you … you…”
“Later,” he murmured, his lips curling up into a delighted smile. “We can talk later. Right now, there’s something I need from you.”
“What is-”
You knew he was truly back when his lips pressed into yours, caressing you right down to your soul.

“You all tricked me!” you exclaimed later over dinner, even glaring at the pale Jackson who merely shook his head at you.
“Now don’t go adding me in this, I think I really died.”
“Then how are you sitting at this table with us? Are you a ghost?!” Jaebum huffed, looking at his hands and then held them up at him. “I worked tirelessly on you both! Don’t underestimate my efforts to bring you back from the brink of death, brother!”
Mark chuckled as he pulled off a piece of the fresh loaf of bread you had made. “In all fairness, we did try to tell you, Y/N. You just didn’t want to hear anything about either of them.”
“She’s someone who needs to see things with her own eyes to believe in them,” Jinyoung mentioned, chewing on his food before grinning at you. “It was more effective that she found me alive than you telling her I was recovering when you didn’t know how long that would have taken.”
“I’m right here, you know,” you grumbled and Jinyoung nodded.
“And she’s really impatient so Jaebum would have gone insane with her hanging over his shoulder looking for new signs of life.”
“Enough!” you exclaimed, slapping your hands down on the table. Looking at each man to see if they dared to talk, you then nodded. “Let me get this straight. You discussed a plan like this?”
“It wasn’t one we wanted to take but if anyone got gravely injured we needed to put them into another world to heal.”
“You all acted like they were dead to me!”
Jaebum nodded. “They were close to it. But I gave them both a tonic to keep them going until we got here so I could start the treatment properly. You weren’t functioning no matter how often we tried to bring you back to the present so you didn’t realise I had purposely slowed down their breathing.”
“I was mourning the loss of the love of my life.” You turned to glare at the evidently healthy man beside you. Jinyoung sheepishly shrugged at you. “Clearly, I wasted a lot of emotions on you.”
“I’m touched, really.”
“Did you cry for me?” Jackson wondered as you rolled your eyes, now looking at everyone around the table. “Anyone?”
“I did, don’t worry,” Youngjae offered hastily, which made the men all laugh.
“I’m still ridiculously confused!” you announced and stood up, storming off outside.
Jinyoung joined you a moment later, reaching for your shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. Glancing at the wounded arm that was strapped to his body in a sling, you grunted. “Will you be lame in that arm forever?”
“You did a good job with that sword, I doubt I’ll ever be able to fully regain strength to it.”
Your annoyance eased and you spun to look up at Jinyoung worriedly. “Really?”
“I’m grateful to have been blessed with a spare,” he mentioned cheekily, holding up his other arm. You hit it as he laughed heartily and you stopped to smile, listening to the bright sound. It was the first time he had truly laughed with so much ease.
“You’re different.”
“I feel like I’m the same.”
“No, you’ve never been like this,” you told him, stepping to his side and gazing up at him adoringly. “You’ve always been looking for the invisible threat. You’re relaxed right now.”
“I’ll let you in on a secret.” Jinyoung beckoned you closer. “Jaebum gave me a very strong pain relief this morning. It’s still working its way through me.”
“You’re being very playful, so it’s not just the medicine. You’re not the same Jinyoung I’ve ever known.”
“I played with you when we were children!”
“Well, yes, but I mean even then you carried a hardness in your eyes. You never showed your emotions easily. All day long you’ve been laughing, smiling, and sharing everything with those handsome eyes of yours.”
“Do you not like it?”
“No, I love it.”
“Good.” Jinyoung kissed the side of your head. “Because I don’t have to hide anymore. No one is looking for me.”
“You’re free.”
Jinyoung nodded happily. “We all are.”

You finally got your wish. Every day, you woke up in the warmth of Jinyoung’s arms, soft kisses starting the morning before going off to prepare breakfast together for everyone. After that, you did chores on the farm, now raising your own animals to further live off the land. You were also building a third cabin since word had reached you that BamBam and Yugyeom were alive and were on their way to join you all.
Each day was full of activity, though you didn’t mind working hard. There was constant laughter and the youth you had all been robbed of from the Rebellion returned through playful water fights and endless teasing. And when you found yourself growing tired from being the only woman on the farmstead, you would go into town to spend time with your friends you had made there. In turn, they visited your home, though you were certain it wasn’t just to see you.
You hadn’t realised just how charming the men you lived with were until you watched them in action.
Looking at Jaebum sweet-talking a cat he had found hungry in the neighbouring fields instead of talking to Bethie who was interested in him, however, showed you that some of them had a long way to go before they could fully be free from the shackles of their upbringing.
But each day brought them one step closer.
Falling onto your bed exhaustively later that evening, you groaned when Jinyoung climbed in beside you and gestured for you to move. “I’m too tired.”
“You need to get under the blankets, it’s the middle of winter.”
“You know that being pregnant makes me feel hotter than normal.”
“Still,” he said with a warning tone and you sighed, picking yourself up only to pull back the blankets.
By the time you were about to slip back into bed, Jinyoung had extended his arm out for you and was waiting. You smiled, though took your time gently nestling into his side.
Not for your sake, but for his.
“You always offer me up this arm to rest upon.”
“Well, considering we go to sleep on the same sides of the bed each night, how am I meant to give you the other?”
“I’ve offered to swap but you never accept,” you pointed out, glancing up at him. “Why?”
“You freed me with this arm,” Jinyoung mentioned, shifting his head so he could kiss your temples. You closed your eyes with sheer delight that tingled throughout you from his soft gesture. “You see it as something awful.”
“I would never wish to harm you.”
“I see it as you setting me free from the Rebellion. Having you lay upon it is my way of showing how grateful I am.”
“But it hurts you.”
“A small price to pay to still be here at your side,” he reminded and you nodded, lifting your head to kiss him.
“You followed me here to Nowhere.”
He grinned. “There’s no better place than to be nowhere with you.”
“We have quite the adventure to tell this child that I’m growing,” you said, rubbing at your slightly protruding belly. “What should we keep to ourselves?”
“How about we skip the ten years we were apart for.”
“Why? That’s the best bit!”
Jinyoung balked a little. “How is that the best part of our story?! The best was obviously when I kidnapped you.”
“And I hated you.”
“You could never hate me.”
“I hated you until I saw your face,” you corrected with a giggle and Jinyoung shook his head.
“We really have been through a lot. Maybe we need to think about how we share this tale with our offspring in the future.”
“I’ll write a book!”
“If you do that then it will be greatly exaggerated.”
“Says the man who wrote an entire love letter about comparing me to the moon and stars.”
Kissing you to silence your teasing remarks, you soon fell into a heady embrace, parting when you were certain your soul was about to burst out of your body and jump into his. You smiled and Jinyoung kissed you briefly before nodding. “However we tell it, let’s make sure we do it together.”
“Well, I don’t plan on going anywhere.”
“Anywhere might be nicer than nowhere,” he offered but before you could respond, Jinyoung was sizing up your lips again. “No matter where you go, I’ll follow you.”
“Of course, you’re mine.”
“Mm,” he hummed, a satisfied smile tugging his plump lips up. “I’m yours.”

The loud pitter-patter of raindrops against the slanted window of the attic Jinyoung lived in was music to the man’s ears. Though they matched the tears running down his pale cheeks, he loved the rain more, the act of nature being both overwhelming and soothing to his soul.
Jinyoung couldn’t remember how long he had stayed in the little room on top of an old lady’s house in the middle of nowhere. He couldn’t remember how or when he got there, he couldn’t remember a time before he’d lived in the attic, just ghosts of past memories plagued his dreams at night.
The rain though, the rain always reminded him of a past that he supposedly had before his current life, a past where he wasn’t alone, where he didn’t survive off of the meagre pay he got working four boring jobs, where he didn’t need to beg the old lady to let him stay for a month without paying the rent because he didn’t have enough money to buy food for himself.
There was only a single, old tubelight in the room that flickered every now and then, the small window being his only other source of light in the room. It was early in the evening, it had rained enough that the water would pool around his ankles if he were to step out. He sat on the windowsill, his fingers pressed firmly against the glass, as if he could feel the raindrops on his fingertips.
The flickering stopped when the light finally gave out, Jinyoung knew well he didn’t have enough money to replace it and he’d tried everything he could to fix it for months to no avail. Sighing, he turned back to the window, the thunder kick starting his dying heart instead of scaring him.
Jinyoung’s clothes were full of holes, frayed edges and snagged threads. He didn’t own a coat to wear in the winters, he just shivered in the cold and bought medicines to keep himself alive. His raincoat was a piece of tarpaulin he had stapled into the shape of a poncho to make sure he didn’t drench his work uniform. He didn’t grab it when he slipped on his worn out shoes and stepped out of the room.
The house had a back entrance, that’s what Jinyoung usually used, trying his best to keep away from the lady in the house. Her eyes always unsettled Jinyoung, she talked of a life he had never lived but she somehow knew about. She would talk about a boy, one that Jinyoung apparently knew well enough to call ‘hyung’, of spending nights with him, pondering over their future in cold nights in his childhood.
He let one foot hover in the air in front of him so that the rain hit his exposed toes from the holes in his shoes, relishing the cold shivers that ran up his spine. Leaning his body weight forward, he planted the leg firmly in the ground, pushing himself off the patio right under the harsh downpour.
It didn’t take long for the water to soak into his clothes and chill him down to the bone, the cold freezing his heart in the best way Jinyoung could imagine. His wet hair hung in front of his face, covering his eyes but he didn’t bother pushing them away.
His feet carried him to the front of the house, as if they had a will of their own, and made him walk down the long, narrow path that connected the house to the main road. Jinyoung didn’t know where he was going, why he was walking down this path at that time on that day. He had done it a million times before, as he went to and came back from work, but this time it felt different.
His feet dragged along the small stones that covered the soil underneath his feet, pushing them around. The sound just added to the sensations that racked up and down Jinyoung’s lean, almost malnourished body. He almost reached the turn to the road when his toes hit something hard in the ground.
Bending down to squat near the object, Jinyoung dug around the item to pull it out of the ground. What he found was a small tin, rusted with the ravages of time. The reddish brown colour of the iron oxide didn’t help him identify the origins of the box, but he forced it open anyways.
Inside was a watch, its gold plating chipping away around the left side of the metal strap. It wasn’t running, stuck at 1:31:23, but it looked like it was well worn in its time, the locking mechanism loose from the likely wear of the accessory. Jinyoung didn’t know who it belonged to, but it reminded him of his own watch, one that never worked properly, counting the same second over and over again.
Jinyoung didn’t remember getting his own watch, the old lady said she gave it to him and his ‘hyung’ when they were still young, but he had no memory of it. He had no memories of his parents, his childhood, his friends, his school, just broken pictures in his mind from a place full of greenery, dark forests and endless roads. He wasn’t alone though, whenever he dreamed about the place, there was always someone next to him, behind him, in front of him, but whenever he turned to see their face, he woke up.
He thought that the man was the ‘hyung’ the old lady talks about, he had the same broad shoulders, black hair, slim waist and long legs she described. He didn’t know his name, but it felt like it was stuck right in his throat, his body refusing to voice it out. That didn’t make sense though, Jinyoung had never seen a place like that in his life, at least he had no actual memories of it, just those pictures in his mind, just those phantom voices.
The voices hurt the most, they spoke of times Jinyoung didn’t know about, of things Jinyoung never did, of people Jinyoung never saw. He thought it was just his mind playing with him, because the old lady would talk about the same memories he didn’t have, but it would always be after he’d heard the voice, after he’d had the dreams.
Suddenly though the rain stopped, instead he heard the pitter-patter against a sheet of plastic. He stood up and felt a warmth behind himself, his nose filled with the scent of almonds and chocolate. ‘Jaebeom’ he whispered. He had never heard the name before but he somehow knew it. He didn’t bother turning back, he knew that the man would disappear the moment he tried.
He instead took in the warmth, and suddenly his clothes weren’t soaked anymore, the watch was no longer in his hands, but wrapped firmly around the wrist that held onto his hips, a chin coming to sit on his shoulder. ‘Jinyoungie’ the voice whispered in his ear, and the world around him turned black.
When Jinyoung opened his eyes, the umbrella was gone, the man was now sitting with his back against Jinyoung’s back, in the middle of a road that came from nowhere and led nowhere. He had a phone in his hand, headphones coming from it that sat in his ears, narrating a book he’d never read. Jinyoung blinked and the world went black again.
This time he was in front of a huge signboard, one that pointed in two different directions at the centre point of a T Junction. His fingers were laced with Jaebeom’s, their backs still pressed each other’s though this time he was standing. His eyes closed again and the world went black again.
He saw things he hadn’t seen before every time he opened his eyes, they all somehow felt familiar though, as if he’d experienced them in another life. He was in a clearing in a field when he stood next to the man and looked up to gaze at the skies but suddenly rain was hitting his face. He was back in the field, there was no umbrella over his head, there was no warmth behind him, just the cold water hitting his already soaked skin.
Jinyoung didn’t know when the tears started falling, he just remembered falling down to his knees, the watch tightly held in his hands as the memories came flooding back to him, the picture of Jaebeom’s smiling face looking at him as they stargazed that night in the middle of nowhere in Hokkaido, Japan.
He remembered the faces of his parents, his sisters, his friends, but most importantly, Jaebeom’s. He remembered the last time he saw the man and lost all his strength, his breath thinning as the hypothermia kicked in. His heart tried to keep moving on, but the voice of a Japanese reporter was all he heard as his brain shut down and he fell flat on the gravel.

"San!" I shouted happily, finally looking back at the handsome boy. He smiled back at me but his expression became cold again as he stared at Jinyoung. My so-called husband let my wrist go and hardly swallowed his spit.
"Y-you! What are you doing here?"

Chapter 3
"What? Do you know each other?" I looked up at San for an answer
"His father is a customer of mine. I worked for him a couple of times, right Mr Hwang?"
Jinyoung stepped back with fear written all over his face. He was afraid of San. I somehow understand his feeling, I knew too well how San could be intimidating.
"I wouldn't ever touch Y/N again if I were you." San said with the most cold voice I ever heard in my life "I get upset pretty easily and I can't think straight when anger come over me. I guess you can understand."
"Why are you protecting her, I don't understand!" My fiancé shouted with fear in his voice.
"Because she's mine."
I blushed madly at San's words. Hana squirmed like a fangirl and clapped her hands while making embarrassing noises. I wished she wasn't there at this moment, I was over embarrassed and she wasn't helping me AT ALL.
I hide my face behind my hands. I wasn't paying attention to the two men's conversation anymore until I felt San's grip lightly tightening around me.
I looked up, Jinyoung was gone without my noticing.
"Are you okay?" San whispered to my ear.
‘Does he have to look at me like that? He’s driving me crazy!’
"He left?" I asked.
San nodded before letting me go. Strangely enough, I felt a wave of sadness and disappointment from the loose of contact even though I couldn't say it out loud, San would probably think I'm crazy since I met him just twice.
Quickly, Hana went to my side, grabbing my arm and shaking it with all her strength.
"Are you THE San?" She asked San with her eyes sparkling.
The moment I saw San's smirk I wished I could have run away from here. I looked at Hana with wide eyes and whispered "Could you stop being obvious for God's sake!"
It was no help, Hana was too happy to finally meet the man I talked about every day and she wasn't paying attention to what I was saying "You are indeed handsome!" she exclaimed "Do you have a girlfriend?"
'Oh God.'
"I don't..." he paused "yet" San looked at me with his sharp eyes.
I turned back and hide my red face the best I could. I was not the kind of girl to turn shy easily but San had this effect on me, he made me feel weak in my knees and made my heart raced.
Meanwhile, Hana was the happiest in the world at this moment, she knew that I never was on a relationship before so she was surely excited to play cupid for the both of us.
After a quick chat, which boiled down to Hana asking questions about everything and nothing, San told us that he was going back to his work and had to leave.
He walked away, but I followed him and with all the courage I could muster up, I grabbed his wrist to stop him. He looked back at me with a surprise expression.
"Can...Can you give me your phone number? It will be easier to see each other this way..." I looked straight at him, facing his usual strong gaze.
However, I wasn't as brave as I wanted to pretend and San wasn't dumb, my shaking hand grabbing his strong wrist was a clue enough for him to know how I really felt.
He smiled at me with a sincere and warm smile for the first time, his dimples in full display, before he gave me his hand. I looked at it, confused, and put my hand on his own.
"Not your hand, give me your phone. Don't you want my number anymore?" he laughed at my action and again, my face turned red.
"Yeah, sure!" I stuttered, giving him my phone. He quickly entered his number on it before giving it back to me.
"Let's talk more often then, Kim Y/N"
Hearing him saying my whole name was something special, a mysterious feeling grew inside of me but it wasn't an unpleasant one.
I waved my hand at him as he walked away, disappearing from my sight.
"I think I need holy water" Hana breathed out.
It was already 9 pm, the sun was giving way to the dark night where the moon reigned as a queen.
It had been a long day, a very long one.
I met Jinyoung, my unwanted fiancé, San helped me against him and Hana hadn't let me get home until I admitted that I had a crush on San.
It was weird to say it, I wasn't familiar with this new feeling. Was it love? Was it possible to feel love towards him already or was it just a physical attraction?
I threw my head on my pillow and yelled on it while shaking powerfully my legs on the bed.
Yes, San was handsome, but he wasn't just that. He had something that attracted me and I couldn't explain what. It was like he was the answer of all my doubts and all of my issues. He was strong and intimidating but at the same time soft and reassuring. The last time I’ve felt this safe in someone’s arms was in my mom’s.
Bip Bip.
I looked at the small screen, a small notification indicating me that I had a new message.
I jumped out of my bed and stood up, excited by just some few words.
San
"Did you get home safely?"
Me
Yes I did! I hope you got home without any issue too :)
No answer.
San didn't seem like the talkative type. I had to choose a topic to continue the conversation or else he wasn’t going to answer.
Me
So...How old are you exactly? Do you still live with your family?
To my surprise, San answered me right away and we both talked for a few hours, totally forgetting about sleep. He talked to me more than I initially thought he would and I was glad for it.
I found out that he lived with his father, mother and older sister in Seoul in a rather affluent neighborhood. He was the same age as me and told me he had always been home schooled so he had a lot of free time.
He was following his father's path and helped him with his work.
I didn't asked him about it but I could easily guess that his dad worked with politicians since he San and Jinyoung knew each other from his dad’s work.
After a three hours long talk, I finally fell asleep while writing a message to San.
San
Sleep tight Y/N.
I slowly opened my eyes when the warm morning light hit my face. It had been a long time since I last sleep that well. I stretched my body and directly texted San.
Me
Hello San! Sorry I fell asleep, I slept well, maybe thanks to all the things that happened yesterday lol!
I waited some minutes but he gave me no response. Was he still asleep?
I went downstairs and only found my father, eating alone. The table seemed bigger than usual without Jin there and I couldn’t help but think about my brother, I hadn't see him since the argument between him and my father and it was worrying me.
"Where is Jin?"
"I don't know where he is living now." My mouth opened at his statement. My unstable eyes were reading his face, trying to figure out and hoping that I heard things wrong.
"What do you mean? He lives here!" I shouted, my voice sounded less confident than usual.
My worry was growing at an incredible speed pace. I felt unwell for some reason and was afraid to understand the real meaning behind my father's word.
"Not anymore. He's an adult now, I no longer have any obligation to keep him home."
I couldn't believe what I was listening to. He kicked his own son out? How dared he?
I was about to shout out at him but his phone rang at the same moment. He took the call and started talking with an unknown correspondent.
His face quickly dropped and then glared at me with angry eyes. I gulped, unaware of the situation.
When he hung up, he angrily stood up and harshly slapped me on the face "What have you done!" he yelled.
My eyes were watering. He hurt me. It was the first time he laid a finger on me.
"Mr Hwang called me! His son, Jinyoung, met you yesterday and want now to end your engagement."
"It's for the best, I never wanted this anyways" I replied curtly.
He was about to slap me again but put down his arm and chuckled darkly "Fine, if you want to be a brat then I will treat you as one"
My father strongly grabbed my arm and dragged me to my bedroom, he was so angry and so harsh, he was, without any doubt, going to leave bruises on my body.
He threw me on the bed and took my phone with him.
"You won't be needing your phone anymore, I'm confiscating it. In the meantime, I want you to think about your behavior." he said "If you don't want to listen to me, then I will show you who is in charge here." he walked away "Ah, and just to say, this week you will took a plane and will go abroad to study." He informed me before locking the door and leaving me alone in my room.
"You can't do this! You can't force me to leave!!" I banged on the door fiercely. It was a nightmare, it couldn't be happening. I sat down, my back against the door and my head on my knees, silently crying.
It was already late at night, I didn't do anything the whole day. The only thing I could do was crying.
I finally wiped my tears away and stood up, determined to leave this house. I took a small bag and filled it with some clothes, wallet and other essential stuffs. I waited until no more noise could be heard in the house and quietly leave the house through the windows.
It wasn't as hard as I thought it will be, I found myself a new talent that night.
I went to the bus station, it was too late so there was no bus anymore.
Shit
I walked to the nearest hotel and went to the reception.
"Excuse me, I broke my phone and I really need to call someone to pick me up to go home. Is it possible to use your phone?" I asked with puppy eyes.
The male receptionist fell right away for my charms and gave me his phone, glad to help a young girl in distress. I thanked him and called my brother.
I silently thanked my good memory and was glad I remembered all the numbers on my phone. "The person you have called is unavailable right now..." the voice announced.
“No way...” my shoulders fell from disappointment. I had no other choice but to let him a message on his phone.
"Hey Jin, it's me... Listen, I had some...problems with dad, he took my phone away so I don't have a lot of way to reach you. I heard that he kicked you out, I hope you did find a place to sleep, hope you're eating well, hope that..." I sniffed, not able to contain myself anymore. "I'm scared Jin, dad wants me to study abroad cause my fiancé brook our engagement. I picked some stuff and now I'm out of the house but I don't know where to go and..." my voice broke because of all the emotions I had inside of me. "I'll call Hana and see if I can sleep at her place or else I'll sleep in a hotel. I love you, I'll call you again tomorrow." I stopped the voicemail message.
This time I tried Hana's number, fortunately she was a phone addict so she would answer to my call. "Yes my love~?" I heard her sleepy voice "Hey Hana" I said, my voice still trembling "What happened? Are you okay?" Her voice suddenly turned serious.
I quickly summarized my situation to her. "Listen, sweetie. Tonight I can't come to you, you have still money right? Sleep in a hotel and tomorrow you will took the first bus and come to my house, okay?" I agreed and hung up before asking a room to the receptionist.
The hotel room was half smaller than mine but it was better than nothing. There was a phone on the side of the bed.
'Should I call San?' I wondered while looking at the phone. Without a second thought, I entered the number of San and waited.
"Hello?"
"San! You answered!" I shouted through the phone, happy to hear his voice "I...I'm sorry I..."
"Where are you?" he asked "What?" I answered, surprised.
"You are not fine, are you? You're voice isn't as clear as usual."
I waited a long moment, I couldn't control my tears as they were running down my cheeks.
"Where are you?" He insisted.
"Dongdaemun hotel, room 322"
"I'm coming. Don't move." his voice softened.
My wait didn't last 20 minutes until I heard a knock on the door. I jumped and opened the door as soon as I heard the sound.
Here it was, the silhouette I liked the most
"San..."
He hugged me tightly as if there was no tomorrow. I noticed how he was sweaty and out of breathe, probably from running to get to me faster.
I breathed in his unique scent, it was woody scent, something fresh but still manly. I felt safer with him, everything was easier when he was by my side. I didn't want to let him go and my feelings seemed mutual as he tightened his grip on my waist.
I was like a piece of metal attracted to a magnet.
We sat down on the bed and he let me cry my heart out, listening every word I had to say. I told him my story, my conflictual relationship with my father, how harsh he was with me and my brother since my mom passed away and my arranged wedding with this Hwang Jinyoung.
We talked for two good hours about my problems but also about the future we both wanted.
As time went on, I started to feel sleepy, my eyelids were heavy and my mind was cloudy. I slowly closed my eyes until I fell into a deep sleep into San's arms. He gently patted my head to help me fall asleep.
"Don't worry Y/N, I will protect you from now on."
San hummed a song before falling asleep by Y/N’s side.

Slow burn Friends to loves AU
Spoilers: there’s a lot of fluff.

Somehow, Jinyoung convinced you to go zip-lining the next day. He already had it booked with the hotel by the time you got up. And as much as you liked to see him finally into the trip, you wish he had planned something more relaxing. Like laying on the beach drinking coconut water.
“We won’t need to hike to get there” he reasoned nonchalantly over the breakfast that you insisted on having in one to the resort’s restaurants. “A van will take us there and then bring us back once we are done. Also, there are a few waterfalls in the area, and I figured you would like to visit them.”
The mention of waterfalls almost made you run back to the villa. If only the food in front of you weren’t that good… It was only a couple of hours later that you started to question your decision to say yes. Jumping from a platform and flying through a forest with only a cable to make sure your life would not end sooner than expected didn’t sound so appealing.
A shiver goes down your spine, your eyes widening to the sight of a girl jumping from the platform as soon as you reached the top of the stairs. She screams excitedly, disappearing in between the trees. You felt like throwing up.
This sudden fear you are feeling is completely foreign to you. You are not scared of heights. Never have been. Yet, somehow, all you want to do is ask the instructors what are the odds of you surviving in case the cords snap.
You give a step back and your back crashes gently against Jinyoung’s chest. “Can’t we just go straight to the waterfalls?” you ask quietly over the shoulder, biting your lower lip.
“We can jump together if you want to,” he points at two other girls who are getting ready to jump next, side by side, holding hands. The way the cables bounce once they are flying makes you feel like it would be even worse.
“Okay,” spinning around and press a finger against Jinyoung’s chest. You fill your lungs with air and let out a long sigh. “I’m jumping alone, but I will be the one choosing what we do tomorrow.”
Jinyoung laughs and nods at your poor attempt to not sound terrified. You have seen that kind of smile many times before. Where his eyes almost disappear, and his face gets covered in adorable wrinkles. You love that kind of smile. It almost makes you feel less nervous. Almost.
“Come on,” he turns you around and push you forwards. “It’s our turn.”
With harness and helmet one, you decide to go first. Mostly because you just want it to be over soon. The instructor opens the gate of the platform and tells you what to do: run through it and jump when you reach the edge. When he asks if you are ready, the only thing that comes from your mouth is “I might through up.”
You keep your eyes closed only in the first seconds after jumping. Just until you acknowledge you are not going as fast as you expected. It is still fast. But not a terrifying kind of fast. It turns out, you find it quite nice. How you can see the streams cutting their way through the forest. How you could still see bits of the ocean on the horizon…
Until you make the mistake to look down.
There is no time to make your shaky legs steady. As soon as you arrive at the second platform, you are quickly rushed by another instructor, his hands moving faster to detach from the cable and make you ready for the second round. This one is lasts longer, and the way the cable is inclined makes your stomach comes to your mouth.
Stopping at the third platform, your legs give you just enough time for you to run towards one of the railings, dropping the helmet on your side. You are sure there are some eyes on you, but you don’t care. You just need to remember how to breathe steadily.
Holding to the railing bars as if your life depended on it, you feel someone approaching and kneeling by your side. “Are you okay?” Jinyoung asked, a hand patting your back gently.
“You will have to carry me for the rest of the day,” you grumble, forehead pressed to one of the cold bars. “My legs don’t answer me anymore.”
“Tragic,” Jinyoung snorts, but then you feel his hands under your arms, lifting you up. “Deep breath, Y/N.”
You comply, breathing and out a couple times. Somehow it only makes you feel more lightheaded. And when your legs start to fail again, you feel yourself leaning back into Jinyoung, his arms closing around you. The way his chests vibrates tells you he is silently laughing
“Is this your way of torturing me?” you ask, voice wavery. “Hiking, zip-lining…”
“I promise that never occur to me,” he says close to your ear, “Let’s sit down and find something to drink before we go down the last line.”
“There’s another one?!” you turn around to see where people are lining up and waiting for their turns. You let your shoulders drop and ignore Jinyoung’s little laugh as his hand goes to your lower back, making you walk to the opposite side.
This platform is much bigger than the previous one, you notice. A narrow walkway gives access to a second platform masked as a lounge area, where a few snacks and alcohol-free drinks could be bought and consumed on cushy chairs spread close to the railings.
“Remember when we went to Jackson’s hometown?” Jinyoung lowers himself next to you, two cups in his hands. It takes you a moment to lift your body. Now that your heart is back to its normal rate, you just feel slow. You raise a brow at Jinyoung, taking the cup of juice he offers you. “It was what, six years ago?” he continues, flipping his hair back with his free hand. “There was this lake, really beautiful, where we went in the mornings.”
“Yes?” you take a sip, the cold, sugary drink making you feel better almost immediately.
“There was this high rock where everyone was jumping from. And if I’m not mistaken, you had no trouble doing so.”
“Your point being…?”
“I don’t understand why you are so freaked out with zip-lining.”
“I can’t believe you are comparing jumping into a perfectly safe lake with this near-death experience.”
Jinyoung rolls his eyes. “Not the activity itself but your willingness to do them.”
“I’m here, aren’t I?” You lean further against the cushion on your back. “And you are mistaken.”
“About what?”
“Jackson’s brother was teasing me because everybody was jumping from it and I didn’t want to. And then Jackson noticed that I was getting annoyed and he suggested he could it with me just once so everybody would shut up. But when we were about to jump, I got scared that Jackson would just let go of my hand. So, he made me get on his back and jumped. And then he got a bit upset because I bit his shoulder and it left a mark.”
Jinyoung studies you for long seconds. “I think Jackson’s brother had a crush on you back then.”
“He did. I figured after overhearing Jackson scolding him.”
Wind shakes the trees around you, making a sound you are fondly getting used to. You turn your face to Jinyoung and he is still looking at you. It’s unsettling how he is able to keep his expression unreadable.
“So, you are saying,” he says after a long beat of silence. “That if I want us to do other things like what we are doing today, I might get bitten?”
You roll your eyes, but can’t hide a little smile. “Is that really the only information you took out of what I told you?”
“I’m just want to be sure of the chances of me getting hurt.”
You consider throwing your now empty cup on his head and make the stupid grin on his face disappear but decides against it. “Didn’t you say there was some waterfall around here? I think it’s time we head there.”

After a ten-minutes cab ride and a brief stop to buy fruit salad, you two follow the signs leading the way to the so promised waterfall park. It’s already late in the day, and so, differing from the day before, the area is filled with tourists. It doesn’t’ bother you. As soon as you can feel the small drops of the water carried by the wind, you get excited again.
“Not here,” Jinyoung grabs your hand before you can drop your bag on the ground. Despite some protest from your part, you let him lead you. Even if he ignores you every time you ask why he is dragging you into the forest. A few minutes later you understand why.
“How did you know about this place?” you ask, stunned. The waterfall in front of you isn’t as big as the one you had just seen, but it wasn’t any less beautiful.
And you and Jinyoung had it all completely to yourselves.
“I did some research after you fell asleep last night,” Jinyoung said, smugness stamped all over his face. “Not bad, huh?” he elbows your side.
You say nothing, but you are more than impressed.
The hours flew as you swam and took photos and snaked on the rocks without a single soul to disturb you. Jinyoung told you that, for what he read, this little sanctuary is forgotten even by the locals. “People just go to the bigger waterfalls and since there’s no real trail to get here, people forget about it.”
Thank God for that, you think.
The resort sent a car to pick you in the middle of the afternoon, leaving you with enough time to have a late lunch in a village nearby. And as soon as you sat inside the black vehicle, you wondered how spending the day in a place so relaxing could leave you so tired.
“How long until the resort?” you asked Jinyoung.
“Around half an hour.”
“Good, I can take a little nap.”
“As long as you don’t continue to sleep once we get to the villa. We still have something else programmed for today.”
You glance at him, eyes narrowing. “Should I be worried?”
Jinyoung cracks a smile, his right arm going around your shoulders, pulling you closer. His fingers repeat the movements of the previous night, caressing your hair gently. You took it as an invitation to feel comfortable, pulling your legs up over the seat and letting your head fall back against his shoulder.

A hostess greets you with a glass of sparkling wine as you board into the catamaran. She directs you to one of the chaise lounges, the only one left unoccupied, and after a few minutes, you start sailing.
“You don’t need to continue to do that, you know,” you say. Jinyoung’s turns to you, his eyes hidden behind his black lenses and hair being brushed back by the wind. “Being all nice and finding things like this for us to do.”
“Apparently I do since you still don’t believe I want to be here,” he retorted. “You never told me, by the way. How did you win this trip?”
You looked at the glass in your hand, the little bubbles popping inside of it. You let some air before saying “I spent 500 bucks on lingerie” fast, finishing the drink right away.
Jinyoung stares at you and then answers with a quiet “Ok.”
You get a little frustrated that he doesn’t tease you or make any snarky comment. “There was this store with a ‘buy our stuff, win a trip for two’ kind of thing and at first I thought it was stupid but then I talked to…” you pause yourself from mentioning your ex. “I changed my mind and I just bought a lot of things that I didn’t necessarily need.”
“Do you like it? The things you bought?”
“I do,” you admit. “Although, after I found out that I won the trip I went back to the store and changed some of the pieces for the pajamas and swimsuits I brought here.”
“You do look great on them,” Jinyoung smiles at you before turning serious. “I’m sorry it didn’t work between you two.”
If you still had anything on your glass, you would probably choke on it. So, you just turn to him, frowning. “Why? You hated him!”
“Yes, but I care about you even when you don’t and make the stupid decision to date a douche.”
Ha! There it was. The type of comment you have been expecting the entire trip. You don’t contain your laugh, happy that you finally have your friend completely back to his natural form.
“Why did you, though?” he continues. “Dating him? It didn’t make any sense.”
“I have no idea,” you shrug. “I guess at that time he was the one idiot that was interested in giving me the kind of attention I was seeking.”
Being single was never a problem for you. But after some time, you just end up missing the intimacy a relationship can bring. And was in a moment like that you met your ex: enjoying happy hour with some coworkers when you were approached by a very handsome guy that was looking at you the way you wanted to be looked at and saying all the right things to make you interested. And then, the months pass and the more intimate you got, you realized he was never that charming to start with.
“Dating for the sake of not being alone never works, Y/N.”
“I agree, but since it was the first and last time I ever got in that kind of a mess, I think I can get a pass,” you grin at him, removing his sunglasses and wearing it yourself. “I broke with him through text. And then dropped anything that I had of him with the receptionist of his work. That’s how much I was over him,” you turn around, waving your empty glass for the hostess to bring some refill.
“I am very proud,” he lifts a hand and you meet his high five, giggling.
The hostess comes to pour more wine on your glasses and serves some appetizers. You feel the boat moving slower through the waters until it reaches the perfect point where you can watch the sky get orange and pink as the sun sets for the day.
“Were you really going to call me?” you look up at Jinyoung. “The day I showed up at your place.”
He nods once. “I wasn’t in the mood to be social just yet. I still don’t believe I am, at least not completely. But I began thinking about you,” Jinyoung smiles softly. “I was wondering if buying your favorite meal would be enough to convince you to come over when you knocked on my door.” He brushes his hair back for the hundredth time. “I just wasn’t expecting to be dragged to the other side of the world.”
“Oh, shut up! You are enjoying yourself,” you nudge his side, your elbow hitting his ribs, making Jinyoung growl.
“That Christmas party,” he continues, eyes fixed in the horizon, “I kept trying to find excuses to pull you outside so we could talk. Nobody knew about us not being together anymore. And if I knew it was really over, I didn’t want to tell anyone yet. Except for you.” He turns his face, on yours. “You are my best friend, Y/N. It felt strange not telling you.”
He never called you that before. Maybe because it was one of those things you never needed to verbalize. Both you and Jinyoung always had this kind of serene connection. It was different from Jackson. Jackson was the friend that would always try to make you laugh and give needed hugs. Jinyoung was the one who would listen to your deep thoughts and help you find logic in them. So you always knew that Jinyoung was your best friend. Hearing you was his too was surprisingly comforting.
And yet, you didn’t know what to say to him. So you faked astonishment. “I thought Jackson was your best friend.”
His lips curl up gently, left arm coming behind you, resting around your shoulders and you lean closer against him. It feels so natural that it takes a minute to process how much this has happened over the past two days. It was so out of character for Jinyoung to be this physically close to you, let alone having his hand on you. Like he has now, his hand moving up and down on your naked arm when the cold breeze starts to give you goosebumps.
You think about mentioning it but stop yourself. It’s been so long since you were touched affectionately by someone who truly cared about you, you don’t want it to stop. Maybe Jinyoung can sense it and that is why he’s acting this way. Maybe he needs it too.
“So, what’s next?” you ask once you are back at the resort’s dock. “And please tell me it includes food cause I’m quite hungry.”
“I haven’t planned anything else so should we go for one of the resort’s restaurants? And maybe finish yesterday’s movie?”
“Can’t we do both at the same time?” you suggest. The day was so good – except for the horrors of zip lining – that you don’t mind giving in to Jinyoung’s need to not be surrounded by people all the time.
And secretly, you wish you could fall asleep with the feeling of him playing with your hair again.

Once upon a time there was a lone seamstress who lived inside a little house in the woods. Few knew of her existence, and even fewer knew of her name, for outside the safety of the forest, the world and its inhabitants were cruel and corrupt. To relieve the weight of her loneliness, the seamstress sat on her roof every night to speak to the moon as it traveled across the black sky. She spoke to the moon about everything, from the rushing of the river current after a spell of rain to the plumpness of the round, ripe peaches that arrived in the summer, and when she ran out of elements of reality, she turned to ones of fantasy instead. She told the moon stories of massive dragons who breathed butterflies with wings of jewels instead of fire and planets where the seas were composed of golden honey and tall mountains of glass.
The moon fell in love with the seamstress and her fairy tales, for she was just as keen for a companion. She loved the seamstress so much that one night per cycle, when the ocean tides were at their lowest, she would leave her nightly perch and join the seamstress on her roof. No one knew of the true nature of their relationship, whether they were friends, lovers, soulmates, but that did not matter, for the moon loved the seamstress, and the seamstress loved the moon in return.
In order to show her love, the moon gifted the seamstress one of her brightest stars from the night sky. Upon consuming the star, the seamstress was blessed with abilities beyond imaginable: Gifts to heal creatures long past the point of decay. Talents in skill, wit and knowledge that surpassed the most brilliant scholars. And most notably, the miracle of eternal life.
Outsiders soon caught word of the immortal seamstress who lived in the little house in the wood, and some sought to steal her and the moon’s power for their own gain. On a night when the moon was at its fullest, a band of malicious villagers stormed the seamstress’s home right on the very roof where she sat. The moon, unable to intervene, watched the villagers kill the one she loved. In a final attempt to best the attackers, the moon shattered the seamstress’s soul into pieces, which had become one with the star, and scattered them across the world. To this day, the ruins of the seamstress’s house still stands deep within the forests of time. On nights when the moon disappears from the night sky, some say that if one listens close enough, sobs and wails can be heard from the roof of the little home where the moon mourns her lost companion.
Many have tried, but it is impossible to gather enough shards of the seamstress’s spirit to recreate the full power of the gifted star. It is said a piece of her soul resides inside all of us. Though in some, the magic is more prominent than others…

“—and then she started getting all defensive over it.” You hold back a sigh at Jihyo’s huff, not desiring to make your roommate and close friend aware that her over-the-phone rant is draining what little sanity remains within your mind. To be honest, you actually lost track of the conversation a couple blocks back, and have little clue over who she’s complaining about. Probably yet another one of Sana’s douchebag crushes “Like, I get you like him and all, but the dude’s literally an asshole. I mean, he’s stood her up how many goddamn times, and not to mention, the whole thing with Chaeyoung—
“(Y/N)? Are you even listening?” You immediately snap from whatever headspace your consciousness slipped into at the change in Jihyo’s tone. Your hand raises to wipe the drowsiness of a twelve-plus-hour day from your eyes as you speak for the first time since you left the university:
“Not really, honestly.” You finally release the breath in your lungs, “It’s… It’s been a long day.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Jihyo scolds, “You know you’re free to hang up on me anytime I get too fired up. Or at least snap me out of it.”
“I know,” You peer at both sides of the street before making your way across, pulling your jacket tighter around your body to fight the chilly, night air. “Like I said, it’s just been a long day.”
“You can tell me all about it over some take-out, sound good?”
“Sounds great. I haven’t eaten much today.”
Jihyo’s grumble emerges over the line, earning an amused chuckle from your own chest. You can hear her yell something to most likely Sana, your other roommate, in the background before returning with yet another scold, “You’re in serious trouble now, (Y/N) (L/N). What have we said about skipping meals?”
“I was busy today!” You protest, unable to hold back the smile that spreads along your lips at your friend’s mother-like nagging.
“That is no excuse!” A couple muffled sounds carry over the line, along with a hushed, inaudible conversation between Jihyo and another person. You cross another street and round the corner, preparing to cut through your usual shortcut to your apartment building, when Jihyo finally returns, “I hope you’re okay with Thai because apparently Sana’s going to die if she doesn’t get her Mango Sticky Rice...”
“I’m okay with that. You know my usual?”
“Do you know who you’re talking to?”
You chuckle, “Fair enough. I’ve got maybe another ten minutes until I’m home. Try not to let Sana eat all the food before I get there.”
“No promises. See you soon, babe.”
You hum a wordless farewell in response before lowering your phone from your ear to end the call. Without the buzz of the line and your friend’s voice to fill the silence, you finally notice how quiet and empty the streets seem. During the hours of the day, the town is usually packed with people meandering out and about in the bay’s usual nice weather. Without the sunshine, however, the nights can get rather cold, and by missing your bus, you’re experiencing that fact firsthand.
You can feel goosebumps emerging across your skin underneath your clothing as you traverse further down the path, a flickering, lone streetlamp your only guide through the darkness. The alleyway in which you usually cut through gapes on your left, but before you enter the narrow passage, you pause to peer over your shoulder. While it wouldn’t be the first time your paranoia has emerged for little reason, considering your track record of life experiences, the sight of shadows and stillness does nothing to ease the eerie sensations creeping along the back of your neck.
Passing the strange feeling off to the cold, you finally step into the pitch black of the alleyway, taking quicker and longer steps out of pure instinct. You pilfer through your bag, wanting to find your phone again to light your path, but as per usual, it seems to have dropped to the very bottom of the bag’s contents. A silent groan rumbles from your chest at the discovery that you’ll have to continue through the dark, or at least until you reach the opposite end of the alley. Hopefully there’s no rats or bats or—
Your entire body jumps at a loud clatter that sounds from behind. You quickly pivot on your heel to investigate the sudden noise, finding nothing but darkness, darkness and more darkness.
“H-Hello?” Your call bounces between the brick walls of the alleyway, echoing back inside your ears. You swallow, with your throat as tight as your chest, and call again. The only sound that answers is the violent racing of your pulse and your shaky breaths. Clutching your bag closer to your chest, you begin to walk backwards while keeping your eyes trained toward the entrance you only moments before came through. The idea seems ideal, that is, until your foot catches a divot and your form collapses onto the pavement.
It takes you a moment to recover from the fall, but you’re quick to grab one of the stiletto heels from your foot and arm yourself with as best a means of defense as you can manage. You carefully rise, shuddering as another clatter sounds from somewhere in the alley. Your eyes dart through the darkness, searching for a shadow that moves more than the rest. After maybe another minute of silence, with your makeshift weapon still in hand, you rush toward the exit of the passageway.
A breath of relief leaves your lips as you enter a level of light where your hand is no longer a silhouette in front of your face. Using the lamp post as support, you reach down to grab the second heel from your other foot and toss it inside your bag while its twin remains prepped just in case. You can survive walking the last three minutes to your building barefoot. All else be damned.
Just as you’re about to resume your walk home, something grabs the back of your scalp, and using the roots of your hair as assistance, yanks you back into the dark alleyway. You immediately fight back, swinging your arm as hard as you can to stab the assailant with your heel. Obviously taken off guard, the figure surrenders its hold on your hair and provides the opportunity for you to stab him again. It releases a blend of something between a groan and a growl, grabs your wrist and quite literally, launches you deeper into the darkness.
Your body connects with a brick wall with a violent thud, stealing every ounce of breath from your lungs. You try to clamber to your hands and knees, but your right arm throbs and goes completely limp at the movement. You curse at the broken bone, but still manage to bring yourself to stand. No sooner are you on your feet, the figure, who you briefly forgot about, shoves and pins your back against the wall with a hand around your throat.
“G-get off…!” You sputter, using your good arm to claw at its face. With speed and strength that’s mostly definitely not human, it keeps your flailing body pressed against the brick surface, yanks your arm out of the way and harshly tilts your head to the side. A loud scream sounds from your lips as binding pain erupts from your neck. Warm blood slips down your flesh like raindrops, staining the collar of your shirt crimson red. The pain is so fierce, it disorients your mind and numbs the remainder of your physical strength, leaving no room for you to fight back any longer.
Your vision begins to grow blurry, partly from tears and partly from the painful fogginess exhausting your brain. For a moment, you wonder what will kill you first: The blood loss, the excruciating pain, or the knowledge that your life in itself is slowly slipping from your fingertips.
You are going to die. The thought repeats itself like a broken record on repeat. You are going to die without seeing your students again. You are going to die without seeing Jihyo and Sana and all your friends again. You are going to die right here, in this dark alley, from a brutal monster that came straight out of hell.
Just when you’re on the cusp between consciousness and unconsciousness, the figure is torn away, leaving your body to collapse to the ground. Muffled sounds of what seem to be barbaric snarls and roars spill into your ears, followed by the obvious snaps of breaking bones. Through the pitch black, you can almost make out a human-like silhouette approaching your grounded figure.
The last thing you remember before you slip underneath the waves of exhaustion is the gentle touch of bloody hands and a soft murmur of your name.

Familiar faces mill about the confines of the graveyard, some as bystanders, whispering rumors behind yellow-taped borders, and some as pursuers, tiptoeing around the grounds as if one wrong step will shatter the tense atmosphere like glass. From his perch leaning against a nearby tree, Mark watches the coroner zip up the black body bag with a blank expression set across his features, contradicting the cloud of sorrow suffocating the means of his soul. Even with the corpse out of sight, he can remember her face—the still-rosy cheeks, the icy touch of fingertips, the unseeing eyes…
The coroner rises to his feet, shaking his head before turning to speak to the town sheriff beside him. Mark continues to observe as both investigators engage in a brief conversation. As if sensing his gaze, they simultaneously turn to peer his way. Mark quickly turns his eyes elsewhere and abandons his post. He heads in the direction of the crypt, attempting to push the persistent, vulgar images out of mind.
“Mark! Hang on!” His steps halt at the frenzied call of the sheriff, providing the opportunity for the older woman to approach. She offers him an apologetic smile and an affectionate pat on his forearm. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to ask you anymore questions.”
“Good. Don’t think I have anything much else to say.” The sheriff doesn’t reply to his weak attempt at humor, instead mapping out the very extent of his face. Trying his hardest to keep his features neutral, Mark stares right back at the female officer—the last thing he needs is to break down right then and there.
After another moment of silence passes, the sheriff finally speaks, “How are you doing, Mark? Really?”
“How do you think I’m doing, sheriff?” Mark releases a sigh, “One of my friends is dead.”
“I know.” She also expels a deep breath, running a hand through her long, brunette tresses. Her grip stiffens just slightly, enough to be able to feel her skin trembling against his. “I wish I could say something to make it better, but I can’t believe it myself—” She chuckles scornfully, “Do you have any idea who—or what, would do this?”
“We’re trying to figure that out.” Mark replies, “Some of us are… taking it pretty hard.”
“Until then, you and everyone else have to be careful.”
Mark shakes his head, “Sheriff—”
“I mean it, Mark,” The sheriff squeezes his arm so tight that Mark wonders if it will bruise. “Whoever did this knew what they were doing, and they knew what she was. Promise me that you’ll keep on your toes?” Flashes of her lifeless body overtake the forefronts of his brain even before he can help it. He hates how his stomach twists at the memory of that foreboding symbol carved into his chest—right next to the confines from where her heart was torn.
“I promise.”
“Good.” A breath that Mark didn’t even know he was holding escapes his lungs as the sheriff removes her hand. “Let me know if you find anything. I’ll keep in touch.”
“Thanks, sheriff.” The sheriff doesn’t say another word, only lays one final pat on Mark’s shoulder before taking off after a group of officers hauling the body bag into the back of a large van. Mark watches as she goes, unable to shake off the feeling of her quivering fingers until she’s out of sight.
Ignoring the staff mopping the blood-stained gravel pathways, Mark resumes his journey up the steps and inside the tall, white-marbled mausoleum. To anyone on the outside, the structure just seems like a normal place to house a passed loved one, but to the specific few, it’s so much more. The coziness of the inside somewhat eases the anxiety flowing through his veins, welcoming the warmth the flames in the fireplace provide. He gazes around the one-room building, past towering bookshelves stuffed with ancient grimoires and cabinets lined with jared materials of all kinds, until his eyes settle on a second figure standing at the lectern placed in the center of the room, flipping through the yellowed pages of a ragged book.
“Any luck?” Mark asks, making his way through the cluttered space beside his busy companion. Youngjae glances up from the tome that’s pretty much falling apart, and sullenly shakes his head.
“Nothing. I tried to track her blood—” Youngjae gestures to a map on a nearby table, its surface decorated with spreading crimson lines and swirls, “—but it’s weird. The trail doesn’t go anywhere. It just…doesn’t stop.”
“What about that mark? Anything on that?”
“I’ve gone through everything we have on runes, symbolism, hieroglyphics, but there’s nothing that even remotely resembles what was on her chest.” Youngjae pauses, hesitant to speak the words on the tip of his tongue, but with a glance at Mark, he continues, “...It’s like whoever, or whatever killed her doesn’t exist, hyung. There’s literally nothing.”
“Shit—” Mark curses, pinching the bridge of his nose with a huff, “There can’t just be nothing! There has to be something—!”
Youngjae shakes his head, “I don’t know what to tell you…” The younger watches as Mark picks up his book. He flips through a few pages before slamming the cover shut with more force than necessary. A moment of silence aside from the sounds of their breathing passes until it is broken by Mark’s yell as he launches the text across the room, knocking over a collection of stacked artifacts.
“Hyung—”
“One of our people is dead, Youngjae!” Youngjae flinches at the elder’s harsh tone, watching helplessly as he shoves a pile of grimoires across the mausoleum floor. “And we have no fucking clue who killed her and why they did it! What if they come back, huh!? What if they come for you next!? Or Lia!? Or Jisung or—” Mark’s angered tangent falls quiet at the shrill call of a cell ringtone. Mark retracts his phone from his pocket, and with a composed sigh, answers the device and lifts it to his ear.
Youngjae watches Mark’s face carefully as it shifts from annoyance to confusion to absolute anguish. He tries to inquire about the subject of the phone call, but Mark only lifts his finger in warning. After a couple cool replies, Mark mumbles a less-than-pleasant farewell and disconnects the line. One of his hands lift to push back the strands of his dark hair while the other frantically reaches for his jacket:
“(Y/N)’s in the hospital. Fuck, I have to—”
“Go, hyung.” Youngjae hums, “I’ll see if I can find anything else.”
Mark’s composure softens. Guilt begins to flow through his veins as he recalls the harsh tone he previously directed at his younger companion. Guided by his emotions, Mark reaches forward to squeeze at Youngjae’s bicep, similar to the sheriff’s actions minutes before. He murmurs, “Thank you, Youngjae.” Youngjae only nods, bending down to begin clearing the remnants of Mark’s wrath as said figure heads out the door.
The forensic team is still cleaning the blood as Mark makes his way toward the exit of the graveyard.

The first color you see when you open your eyes is white, playing more into your assumptions that you’re currently in the beginning stage of the afterlife. As more and more of your consciousness and common sense return to your brain, the puzzle pieces of the strange situation slowly begin to slide into place. You’re not floating in a cloud at all—but in fact, laying on the most uncomfortable bed known to man. You groan, forcing yourself to sit up as to collect more clues to your surroundings.
A soft murmur of your name and set of hands on your shoulders takes you completely off guard. Immediately, memories of your encounter with the violent creature invade your brain like water to dry soil. You flail your limbs wildly, attempting to defend yourself against the unknown figure with each kick and punch.
“(Y/N), hey! Calm down!” The stranger seizes your wrists before you can knock his eye out, tugging your arms to rest on your lap. It’s painfully aware that his strength outmatches your own, so you make no other attempts to use force—also partly due to the gentle tone of his voice. You allow the stranger to guide your upper body back to lay down on the bed, using the opportunity to peek at his face:
The man is despicably handsome to the point his features seem to be sculpted by the gods themselves. His face is long, with a jawline that is sharp enough to slice your finger if you were to reach up and touch the structure. You can’t tell which is more alluring, between his dark, almond-shaped eyes, or his full, rose lips. Then again, the jet black, fluffy hair atop his head is also a close third…or the milky canvas of his strong neck—
“...(Y/N)?” When the stranger speaks again, you notice a strange lilt to his voice, almost like an accent of some sorts. But like the figure himself, you can’t place where you’ve heard such a figment of speech. “...Can you understand me?”
“I’d hope so.” You murmur blankly, “What am I? A fucking alien?”
The stranger’s lips curl in amusement at your retort. He pulls a lone chair closer to your bedside, not once breaking his gaze from your own. You ignore the strange shivers that crawl down your spine as he takes a seat, leaning forward to rest his forearms atop the edge of your mattress. Through the corner of your eye, you notice the multitude of wires connecting your arm to the machines stationed on the opposite end of the bed—so you’re not dead. What a relief.
“You’re in the hospital—”
“Figured that out already, pal.” You sigh, rolling your head back into the pillows and allowing your eyes to slip shut. The act does little to calm the storm occurring inside your mind, so frustratedly, you open them again and instead, peer at your unfamiliar companion with a raised eyebrow, “Pardon my French, but who the fuck are you and why are you here?”
Before the stranger can settle the confusion bubbling through your entire body, a knock sounds from the door a few feet away. It slides open to reveal a woman in a white coat with a clipboard and pen in hand. With a sweet smile across her face, the doctor enters the room to approach your position on the bed.
She outstretches a hand, “Hi, (Y/N). I’m Dr. Yoo Jeongyeon. I heard you had a pretty rough night.” Too lost inside bewilderment, you accept her formal greeting without saying a word. Dr. Yoo pays no mind to your silence, instead checking the machines at your bedside. “You should be glad Jinyoung found and brought you here.” She finishes recording the results of the pacemaker before requesting you to sit up for a moment. You do so, looking straight ahead as she checks your eyes. “You suffered a nasty concussion—” She switches off the light, “—so how do you feel?”
“I feel…” Your voice fades before you can give a complete answer. It’s not that it wasn’t an easy question—it’s the fact that right now, you feel great… The best you’ve felt in the past couple years as a matter of fact! But that doesn’t make any sense, especially with what you remember from the alleyway. There was blood… and you’re pretty sure your arm was broken too…
“It’s okay to be a little out of sorts. Especially after hitting your head and knocking yourself out.” Dr. Yoo assures, marking something down on her clipboard before nodding, “Everything looks great, but we’re going to keep you here for the rest of the night just as a precaution. You’re free to go home first thing in the morning.”
“Wait, I swear I—”
“Please let one of the nurses know if you need anything else. I’ll see you in the morning.” You watch as Dr. Yoo bids both you, and the man called Jinyoung, a brief goodnight and exits out the same door she came through only minutes ago, leaving your thoughts swirling with even more questions than before.
You shake your head, “I didn’t fall though. I was attacked.”
“Like she said, you hit your head pretty hard.” Jinyoung shrugs, “Your memory is probably a bit off.”
“That’s not—no.” His face grows visibly surprised at the drop in your tone, but still retains his usual neutral aura. “I know what I saw.”
Jinyoung releases a heavy, almost annoyed breath before climbing to his feet. More shivers attack your helpless body as he leans forward, diminishing the distance between the two of you until his nose is only centimeters from brushing your own. You can taste the mint of his breath as he speaks. Calm, collected, and slow:
“You fell and hit your head. Nothing else happened.” Amongst his strange words, you can’t help but notice the rather unusual behavior of his eyes. The ring of his chocolate, brown irises disappears as his pupil grows three times its normal size before shrinking down to a nonexistent dot—you don’t like the familiar ghost of paranoia breathing down the back of your neck.
“What the hell is wrong with your eyes?”
For the first time, actual emotion lifts to Jinyoung’s face in the form of pure disorientation. He lurches backward, as if finally realizing how uncomfortably narrow the distance was between the two of you, and clears his throat. Although it’s probably a trick against the bright, alabaster background, you swear you saw his eyes once again flash to black.
“Nothing. It’s the lighting.” He manages to get over his confused state, or mask it beneath another layer of vacancy, before awkwardly gesturing to your cell phone on the bedside table. “I called your friend, Mark. He was the first contact on your list, so I just thought…”
“That’s… really nice of you.”
“He should be arriving soon…” Jinyoung, once again, stiffly points in the direction of the closed door. “I should wait outside to make sure he finds your room…” He hurries to the doorway, eager to be rid of the tension lingering between the two of your forms, and peers over his shoulder to nod, “I hope you have a goodnight, (Y/N).”
“Jinyoung, wait—” You hurry to sit up, hoping to catch your mysterious savior before he disappears from the room. Thankfully, Jinyoung, with one foot out the door, pauses at your command. This time, he does not turn to meet your gaze—and you curse the longing that sparks in your gut because of it.
“Thanks for… bringing me here, I guess.” Your cheeks burn as you say the words out loud, wondering if Jinyoung can hear the slight waver to your tone. You expect the stranger to nod his head, like before, and high tail out of your sight, but as always, Jinyoung does what you least expect: He turns around and delivers a tight-lipped, but surprisingly sweet smile.
“You’re welcome.” His response makes your insides flutter, “I… I hope to see you again soon.” Jinyoung doesn’t give you the chance to return the conversation, and with one final glance, vanishes through the hospital doorway. Even with his presence gone, your body thrums with the remnants of his aura. Partly because of the lingering aftertaste of his charming presence:
—And partly because of the apprehensive feeling in your gut that grows the more you dwell on the abnormality of his gaze.
☽ ☽ ☽ ☽ ☽ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
Jinyoung never meant for the night to turn out like this. He only wanted to get out of the manor—well, get away from his brother before he broke his neck. Literally. Jinyoung never meant to catch your scent during his midnight stroll, nor eventually find you in that alleyway, where he watched as you bravely attempted to fight off that crazed, bloodthirsty fledgling with nothing but a single shoe. The logical part of his brain initially forbode his intervention, but watching how you fought that vampire awoke the remaining human component inside his soul.
—He realized that he couldn’t let you die.
So against his better judgement, Jinyoung saved your life… and now he’s paying the price.
“You better have a damn good explanation or I’ll hex you into the next fucking century.” Jinyoung waits patiently as Mark exits the hospital elevator, barely flinching as he shoves his body against the nearest wall. Ignoring the pure rage wafting off of the witch’s body like a Spring scent, Jinyoung raises his arms and replies coolly:
“Please take your hands off of me.”
“Not until you explain to how (Y/N) was almost killed by a fucking bloodsucker.” Mark tightens his hold on Jinyoung’s collar, pressing him further into the surface of the wall. “If this is because of your douchebag brother, then I swear—”
“I already told you that Jaebeom cannot turn other vampires.” He pushes Mark’s body with just enough force to free himself from his hold. “And so help me, if you try to go after my family again, I’ll kill you and your pathetic minions.”
Mark scoffs, “Just because you can’t be killed doesn’t mean you’re invincible.” Jinyoung quickly bites his tongue to hold back his retort and inhales a deep breath to calm the frustration brewing through his veins. His mind, against his own will, conjures up the memory of you sitting and staring at him from the hospital bed. Just the image of your bright, fire-lit eyes eases the tension from his shoulders, washing away whatever anger remained inside his gut.
Jinyoung sighs and changes the topic, “(Y/N) is fine. After I killed him, I fed her my blood—”
“Oh, fucking hell—” Mark curses, burying his face in his palms. “Yeah, everything is just peachy.”
“It was either that, or she die from blood loss. Take your pick.”
“We had a deal,” The witch begins, “The coven, the pack and the league would allow you and your brother to stay in town as long as no other bloodsuckers make an appearance—“
“I can’t keep count of every vampire that comes into town,” Jinyoung replies truthfully. “Last I checked, that’s your seer’s job.” He takes note of the painful expression that overtakes Mark’s face, replacing his frustrated tone with one of concern, “What happened?”
“Nayeon is dead.” He feels an imaginary punch sink into his gut at Mark’s sullen answer. “She was killed a couple hours ago.”
“Killed? By what?”
“That’s what we were trying to figure out when I got your goddamn call.”
Jinyoung shakes his head, “I’m sor—”
“Save it.” Mark finishes just as a couple of chatting nurses clad in sky blue scrubs turn the corner and stop in front of the elevator. Both him and Jinyoung offer the hospital staff polite smiles, waiting a couple breaths for the metal doors to slide open and the passersby to enter. Only when the doors shut and the elevator dings, is when Mark continues: “Where is she?”
“Room 116. I told her I called you.” Jinyoung quickly moves forward as Mark tries to push past him, blocking the doorway so he can’t pass. “Hang on—”
“We’re done talking—”
“She can’t be compelled.” Jinyoung ignores how Mark tries to shove him aside, keeping his body rigid and exactly in place.
Mark rolls his eyes, “Well, no shit. I gave her a ring infused with vervain—”
“She wasn’t wearing it,” Jinyoung insists, “And her blood is clean. You know what that means.”
“Are you out of your fucking mind!?” A couple surrounding bystanders curiously glance their way at Mark’s hiss. The witch releases a heavy breath before dragging Jinyoung to a more inconspicuous corner of the hallway. His voice is quieter when he speaks, “Look, I know this girl. There’s no way in hell she's anything remotely supernatural.”
“Then explain how she can’t be compelled by a Prime Vampire.” Jinyoung argues, narrowing his eyes as Mark scoffs and turns to begin the journey to your room. He purses his lips before calling out, “I know you feel it too.” Mark freezes, but doesn’t say a word. Jinyoung takes his silence as a means to continue, “—that rush you feel whenever she’s around… like you’re the most powerful being in the world.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Mark replies before peering over his shoulder to shoot Jinyoung a stern glare, “Stay the hell away from her. Or else.” And with that, Jinyoung watches as Mark scurries down the white hallway and disappears around a corner.
Jinyoung releases a sigh, lifting a hand to run his fingers through his hair. His thoughts are scattered: Stressing about a witch killer lurking around the town… Dreading his future encounter with his ignorant, dastardly counterpart back at the manor… Pondering over the reasons why Mark lied just seconds before…
But most importantly, Jinyoung wonders when he will be able to see you again.
☽ ☽ ☽ ☽ ☽ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
Mark doesn’t understand why he’s so nervous to see you. Maybe it was the look in Jinyoung’s eyes that has him spooked, or the fact that you can’t be compelled by one of the most powerful vampires in existence. Since you came to Moon Dye Bay, Mark has been able to shield the truth of the monsters that go bump in the night from your innocent eyes—the knowledge of your resistance toward mind compulsion proves that he has to be even more careful… especially with a supernatural murderer in the picture.
He inhales a deep breath before rapping his knuckles against the wood of the door. Your gentle call for his entry immediately lifts the heaviness from his chest. With less hesitation than before, Mark opens the obstacle and slips past the doorway into the room, his eyes softening at the sight of your body tucked beneath the sheets of the medical bed.
“Hi.”
“Hey, Mark.” Just the way you say his name spills warmth through his limbs, settling like a warm blanket over his heart. He makes his way to your bed to gather your figure in his arms, appreciating how yours and his bodies fit like puzzle pieces.
He murmurs against the crown of your head, “How are you feeling?”
“Honestly… confused as hell.” Mark pulls back at your weak attempt at a laugh to watch your face instead. His desire to caress the swell of your cheek comes at him so strong that he has to station his hands on your knees as a distraction. “I swear I was attacked by—I don’t even know what—but I don’t even know…”
“It’s okay. We’ll figure it out.”
“I know, I just—don’t understand how things just got so screwed up, you know? I don’t even—Mark, what’s wrong?”
Your question seizes his attention, causing his eyebrows to furrow from confusion. He opens his mouth to inquire about your out-of-the-blue concern, but his words die at the hand that appears on his cheek. He watches in disbelief as you wipe a tear from the edge of his eye, wondering where during the conversation he had begun to cry. Whether it’s the pure compassion in your eyes, or the traumatic encounters throughout the night, Mark doesn’t know… but he allows himself to break down in your hold.
He allows himself to melt into your embrace as you pull him down against your body. He allows the sobs to freely flow from his lips and catch into the crook of your neck. He allows himself to be vulnerable for that one moment… because he can’t show weakness anywhere but with you.
“I… I thought I lost you…” Mark feels your hold tighten at his whisper, “I can’t lose you… Not you…”
“You won’t, Mark…” For a moment, he allows his heart to trick his mind into believing your words meant more than what they’re intended for. Just for a moment, Mark actually convinces himself that here, in your arms, is where he belongs…but he knows it’s far from the truth.
Because even though you may feel like home—Mark can never, truly satisfy his homesickness for you.
