the dandy warhols is such a hipster indie band name like oh my god i hate it so much because its such a hipster band name. same with neutral milk hotel but at least dandy warhols is kind of generic, 60s and 70s inspired pop rock that i can tolerate

Assigning songs I like to random Saiki K Ships
I may or may not ship the following but I thought this would be fun anyway. The little bit of the song that plays in the embed is never The Right Bit so I'll also include some lyrics too.
Terusai
I found a fox, caught by dogs. He let me take him in my hands. His little heart, it beat so fast, and I'm ashamed of running away, from nothing real. I just can't deal with this. I'm still afraid to be there, among your hounds of love
Kubosai
He said, "I see you now, and you are so very young But I've seen more battles lost than I have battles won And I've got this intuition says it's all for your fun And now will you tell me why?"
Well the young queen, she fixed him with an arrogant eye She said, "You won't understand, and you may as well not try" But her face was a child's and he thought she would cry But she closed herself up like a fan.
Saikechi
Come on now Sugar! Bring it on, bring it on, yeah! Just remember me when you're good to go! Come on now Honey! Bring it on, bring it on, yeah! Just remember me when...
...we used to be friends
Makokuu
^^ Actually the bit that plays here is perfect.
These may not be entirely accurate, I just kinda looked through my playlist to see what songs I could match to ships for gits and shiggles. Maybe y'all will find something to add to your playlists if you have ship playlists or whatever :]

Tagged by @specialagentartemis to post 10 songs I like with names in the title. It was easier to come up with these than I expected, even though I don't normally think about music by what's in the song title that way.
Cecilia, Simon and Garfunkel. I could easily have done this whole list as (Paul) Simon (and Garfunkel) songs tbh
Aisha, Death in Vegas ft. Iggy Pop
Clint Eastwood, Gorillaz
Cool as Kim Deal, Dandy Warhols. I looked up the lyrics to this for the first time today and realized that Courtney Taylor-Taylor is singing about wanting a girlfriend as cool as Kim Deal. I always thought he was saying "Just wanna [be?] as cool as Kim Deal"
Sarah, Hungry for Hands
Eggerson Keaveney, Jazz Emu. This has been stuck in my head for about a week, alternating with Not as Sexy.
Calling Elvis, Dire Straits
Elektrichka, The Projects. An elektrichka is a certain kind of Eastern European passenger train, but the album is called Elektrichka's Favourite Party Record, so I feel like it's addressed to a person with an unusual name.
Dr. Jeep, Sisters of Mercy. More people named after vehicles!
Rodney Yates, David Holmes
I tried to get a good genre range in here -- we've got classic rock, various electronic and trip hop adjacent somethings, a YouTuber's novelty song, a band which refuses to admit it makes goth music, and...sludgy post-metal?
Forgot to tag anyone, but do this if you like!

Half-heartedly musing over writing a Christmas song... But it wouldn't be for this year, as I don't have enough time to even finish the lyrics, let alone compose and record anything. Might try to make fleshing out the lyrics & concept my pet project during Christmas downtime at the in-laws.
So far got a vague notion of it being kind of psych-rock esque, but by way of shoegaze and synths; think The Dandy Warhols' Minnesoter & Radiohead's Subterranean Homesick Alien. Lyrically I have something which is either the inklings of a verse one, or chorus, and no strong idea how to take it further... Maybe research the history of Saint Nicholas and weave various bits together into something suitably baroque and atmospheric, kind of like what I did with European folk medicine & superstition in Sixpence to Bury the Dead.
The magic man with the master plan
A sack on his back, and reins in his hand
Spreading joy throughout the land
With gifts for the boys and girls

Indie Rock Trio of Lifelong Friends Release Lively New Single
Tumblr media
Indie rock band Saint Social has released their latest single, “Holiday Forever,” addressing the idea of embracing one's entire self and finding bliss despite past anguish. The track serves as the closer to their upcoming full-length album. Stream and download “Holiday Forever” now on all platforms worldwide. With vivid, imaginative lyrics alongside the band’s distinct blend of pop, rock, and synth elements, the song showcases the bright side of their catalog and strives to instill listeners with the same jittery excitement as going on an actual holiday. “‘Holiday Forever’ marks the culmination of the narrative arc on our upcoming full-length album,” explains lead singer Quinn Erwin, who wrote and co-produced the track. The single also plays as an anthesis to the power-centric opening track, “Swagger,” released earlier this year, and represents the band's beachier and sweeter side. The songs showcase two sides of the Saint Social coin, and both feature the lyrical motif of the tiger. “‘Holiday Forever’ speaks to the healing and ultimate joy of being embraced for everything a person embodies. It also conveys the thought that heartache can add up to something good in the end.” The unabashedly, earnest celebratory track was mixed and co-produced by Hunter West (Little Image, The New Respects, Mountains Like Wax) and mastered by Joe Causey (Underoath, Switchfoot, The Dandy Warhols) at Voyager Mastering. HEAR: Noise Pop | DAIISTAR - “Repeater”
Tumblr media
TX noise-pop band DAIISTAR are dropping new single "Repeater," the third to be lifted from their debut album Good Time, which is out September 8th via Fuzz Club. The new cut arrives off the back of recent singles "Star Starter" and "Tracemaker," plus a newly-announced US tour with The Black Angels and The Dandy Warhols and two Texas album release shows with Night Beats. DAIISTAR’s Alex Capistran (guitar/vocals) writes: "'Repeater' is a voyage through the darker side of the human consciousness. It’s common for people to mask what’s on the inside and in this track we travel beyond the exterior. The lyrics are minimal with the intent of focusing on the music itself and how it intensifies as the song progresses. On this track we journey inward only to find ourselves spiraling out in the end." Made up of Capistran, Nick Cornetti (drums), Misti Hamrick (bass) and Derek Strahan (keys), DAIISTAR formed in the spring of 2020. Creating a narcotic blend of noise and melody, the band takes their inspiration from the neo-psychedelic era of the 80s and 90s and pulls it into the future with modulating synthesizers, heavy guitars, bouncing bass lines, and spiraling hooks. Their debut studio album, Good Time, was produced by Alex Maas of The Black Angels and engineered by James Petralli of White Denim. Read the full article

heard i want you by savage garden for the first time the other day and was struck violently dumb by how similar the chorus to this fun little bubblegum pop song from 1997 sounds to tragic and deeply emotional sad cowboy song your other life by lord huron. inside of you there are two wolves.

HELLO SYD important question.... do u have any song suggestions u can give me like... songs that are fun... like that are sung by boys but sound like girl songs...? like idk i got obsessed with girls & boys by blur and the lyric that starts the chorus "girls who are boys" just gave me this playlist idea LOL
HMMM!! i have a couple!!!
- i’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you - black kids (THEEEE song)
- butch - saint motel
- the boys wanna be her - peaches
- boys better - the dandy warhols
- jenny - studio killers (lesbian song but technically sung by a male vocalist?)
- suzanne - judy collins
- this cover of yellow by coldplay is by kellin quinn but he has such a feminine voice i pretend its a girl singing lol
the gender screw thing is harder than just a gay song or a male cover of a female artists song (or vice versa) but these should do it :3

(73) The Dresden Dolls - Truce (LYRICS ON SCREEN) 📺 - YouTube

These guys should have more popularity than they do, it's nice having your niche indie band but if they don't make enough money to keep it going you lose em.
One of the nice things about the Eels, enough people buying albums, watching the videos, and going to concerts that E can keep making the records he wants to make and as an added bonus if it does really well he can afford a new razor blade and shave that year.
On the flip side you've got the Dandy Warhols where their keyboardist also works as a real estate salesperson in Portland, not sure what the rest of them do but she's happy from the interviews I've read and they're still making records so no biggie.
Then again given who Amanda Palmer is married to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is that a hickey on her neck? Neil you scamp.
(bug bite probably)
Joking about the money thing too, I'm sure DD does just fine been around long enough got a pretty solid fan base, and I'm so out of the loop on most musical acts these days, no real clue what's going on.
This went in a weird direction for and ask that was you sending the song you were making the IG window thingy for so I could hear it.
