This is also where we get into weird identity-label territory because, let see if I can express this accurately. There are absolutely Jews who are Black, who are Indigenous, who are Jews of Color. There is no dispute there.

However, BIPOC being the US/Western way of saying "people marginalized because of their ethnicity" leaves Jews who dont already fit into the above categories as by default not marginalised. And its not true at all, and it leaves us out of a lot of discussions, and resources, that in many circumstances would be right to include us.

"Gays trans and poc" is basically shorthand for 'marginalized people' and it doesnt inherently include Jews. And the problem is that modern people dont know how to handle the concept of a people colonised and forced into diaspora by the fucking Romans. We could only be called indigenous if we were colonised and in displaced in the last couple centuries. Last couple millenia, nah, your memory isnt long enough to know what to do with that, and youre so steeped in your own antisemitism that you think thats fine, that we deserve it, that we're making it all up.

And if we're indigenous, well that muddies the black-and-white water that zionists=Jews=israelis=evil colonisers, and Palestinians= indigenous= perfect and good and true and always correct. And we cant have that. It's definitely an interesting situation. Because like, coming at it from an outside perspective as I was, I was confused for a while. Over the top fan service is a staple of the genre tbh. But I think maybe people get stuck on the black and white and forget the nuance.

Like yeah, it can be fan service and they can also actually care for each other. Which is where I ended up. Because they were definitely playing it up, especially at the beginning of the relationship, but you can also see the genuine affection and emotional honesty, and you can see how it shifts over time.

The most interesting thing about playing hades ii for me is that, out of the two of us (me and Melinoë,) I'M the one with nostalgia about her family. She's filled with purpose, she knows her destiny, but she mentions that she doesn't feel the righteous rage that she thinks he should. She's fighting for revenge for people she's never even met. And I, the player, relate more to the npcs, assuring her that yes, they were wonderful, we love them, they're worth it.
