Thoughts on the IGN DA:TV 22 min gameplay - Lighthouse portion
this post is under a cut due to what some peeps may consider spoilers, and length.
This prev post was just some text-based info that I wrote down, mostly based on what was said in the commentary. this post is more of a looking at the visuals with a fine-toothed comb and a bit of theory/speculation stuff mixed in kinda deal. :)
The Lighthouse' Meditation Chamber. It has a comfortable-looking sofa on which to sit or lay down while you ponder and gaze at this fish tank. Back in the day, this would have been Solas' meditation chamber, right? maybe we can go here to commune with Solas via the Solas-Rook connection (whatever it is)? the fish tank gives me fond memories of the Normandy. :') can we collect different fish? do we have to feed them? are they real fish? Fade fish? wisps that are in the form/shape of fish? are they edible? can we eat them? can I swim in there? what would they taste like? I feel like Kargesh, the krogan from Mass Effect who wants to taste the fish from the Presidium lakes š in this room, the light and shadow of the water moving on the ceiling is beautiful. I wonder where Rook's room is?
Top left: quest title referencing the phrase "After the storm". since this gameplay video is set after the siege of Weisshaupt and shows Grey Wardens lamenting what happened there, could the 'storm' here be what happened at Weisshaupt? Bottom left: collectable Codex entry, a tool-tip of some kind or does Rook have new mail? Center: pattern of ancient elven triangles on the wall, arranged like a sun. Right: this looks like a wardrobe. Maybe this is where Rook can change their casual wear? the Inquisitor had a Wardrobe in their quarters. maybe the Meditation Room is also Rook's quarters?
The Lighthouse Library. The seating area on the ground floor is the place we saw the companions gathered together in this group shot. the Lighthouse needs to manifest 4 more seats round the central table for the others hh (Lucanis, Bellara, Rook, Varric). The table has an icon on the mini-map, so it probably has some kind of interactable function. gather the companions? look at the world map?
What have we here, floating in the Library? šļø this looks ancient elven, magic, triangle-y and very important. It's not dissimilar to the one floating in Bellara's room, or to this place. The Lighthouse's power source? A strange map? Something that protects the Lighthouse from outside incursion or prying eyes? A model of the Veil and the different worlds? Could this become less broken-looking in terms of the outside 'rock' layer over time, or could more of the triangles light up blue over time as the story and look of the Lighthouse progresses? Does it have something to do with the Lyrium dagger? (the blue and gold color scheme reminds me of the dagger.) Is it connected to the rotating glowing roof of the tower of this part of the Lighthouse, which you can see later on when Rook goes outside into the Courtyard and looks up? I get the impression that the roof spins if this spins.
Left: something which resembles Elgar'nan's headpiece shape in the Lighthouse Library Center left: in the Library, there are books floating suspended in the air and floating upside down bookcases, arrayed around the magical artifact in the center Center right: there is one of these on either side of the Library entrance. they look like places where there were once frescoes or paintings, like what's left is very faded paint. I wonder if these restore overtime or can be restored over time? it reminds me a bit of the Skyhold mosaics. if these walls did hold paintings, I feel like it would have been Solas who painted them. Right: A floating book above a sidetable, from back in the Meditation Chamber
Next we progress into the Lighthouse Courtyard. Could the fragmented Courtyard become less fragmented and a bit more contiguous as the Lighthouse becomes less disrupted? Game Informer's cover story noted that since the Lighthouse is in the Fade, a realm of dreams that responds to your worldstate and emotion, the Lighthouse reflects the chaos and disrepair of Thedas. since the things in it can change, maybe as Rook completes more of the story and helps more of the world it will look less chaotic over time, including the fragmented Courtyard?
Some of the floating chunks have tree roots protruding from the bottoms
What happens to someone if they fall off the edge of a floating courtyard fragment in the Fade hh?
Left: big dogĀ š Veilfire glows in the scone on his chest Top center: this symbol was on the minimap, in front of the Fen'Harel statue. I think it's this one (left), which we saw in the high-level warrior combat gameplay video. it's some sort of collectable in the sort of way that gold/coin is. I guess this is where we go to use or spend this thing perhaps, whatever they are? maybe it's for Lighthouse upgrades? maybe it's what we spend at or trade to the mysterious "enchanter" who helps us with crafting at the Lighthouse? Bottom center: This is the head-shape of Mythal on the exterior of the Lighthouse Library building, like this statue in DA:I Right: the orangey-leaf trees, an ancient elven spaces classic :)
When Rook approaches Davrin's room, the minimap location title changes to "Guesthouse". That's cute š„ŗ Is every companion space called a Guesthouse or is that just the name of Davrin's? Or just the name of the area Davrin's is in?
Left: What the glowing 'come talk to me pls š„ŗ' lamps look like. Some of the room-buildings, like Harding's, have two lamps outside of them though not just one like Davrin š¤ Center: Rook carries the Lyrium dagger in their casualwear pocket when in the Lighthouse Right x2: Two lil chimneys puffing away, how cute!! Maybe one is the one for the kitchen where the cooking takes place, and one is connected to Taash's room? Taash's room has fires in it that could be forges.
Left: The dev narration tells us that this companion home is Harding's, and it makes sense - there's roots/vines growing up to or down from the ceiling, and the roof has the appearance of glass, like a greenhouse. Perfect for growing things and letting in the sun. There might not be any literal sunlight in the Lighthouse, but as the rooms shape themselves according to the companions, it's just all about Harding and what suits her. Right: I think this is Neve's room. Compare the windows on the front to the windows on the sides in the screenshot of Neve's interior. (same pattern & placement, in a row of 3)
As we can see from when Rook enters there, opposite Neve lives Davrin.
Left: Who lives here? this is next-door to Davrin. Right: And who lives here? this is opposite Harding.
^ the dev commentary at this point mentions Bellara's home at the same time as pointing out Neve's, but I'm not sure which of these two is hers. and this makes 5 homes, I wonder where the other two rooms are? perhaps attached to the main building which holds the Library? btw, how cute is it that the found family basically have their own cozy lil family neighborhood in a pocket dimension? š„ŗ
At the top of this tower it looks like a lil balcony no? potentially with a door leading out to it? maybe this is the balcony from Rook's room?
This Rook's casual wear has bare feet and triangles on it. Maybe this Rook was a Veil Jumper? I know the Veil Jumpers wear boots or shoes in the field, but this is casual wear. Veil Jumpers also seem quite orange in their color palette.
šš
šš I LOVE
Rook standing next to Davrin here gives an idea of how tall it's possible for qunari Rook to be.
There was some debate over whether this room was Davrin's or Taash's. this vid confirms it as Davrin's. (some thoughts on how it reflects Davrin here). in that post I wondered what the green things were - here we can see that they're hanging corked jugs filled with.. sand? :D also interesting to note is that at this point in the storyline, Davrin's room lacks the big monster skull hung over the fireplace in the screenshot. however, it still has the other monster stuff - the skull on the other wall, the spine hanging from the ceiling, the 'horn chandelier' thing. hear me out. what if.. the skull that eventually goes above the fireplace is the skull of the Gloom Howler..? šļø if it was your nemesis, and you finaaally felled it, you'd put it in pride of place as your prize, above your fireplace.
Left: in the post about Davrin's room I wondered if the things on the floor in front of the fire next to the armchair were a rug and chew or bone for Assan, and here we can see that is the case. ^^ Right: I think this here in this side alcove is Davrin's bedroll. makes sense that it's tucked out of sight there - it's not visible in the perspective that the screenshot of his room was taken from, so I was wondering where it was.
On the left as Rook exit's Davrin's, we can see what looks like more wooden carvings that he's been working on, like this ogre.
In the Davrin and Assan portion, Davrin and Assan both look so good. I was really happy to see a Davrin focus in this video and Assan is so cute, with adorable animations, sounds and rigging. Assan stretches like a cat before getting up when Rook comes in.. the tail swishes, the ear crooking, the ear twitching.. š„ŗ when Rook comes in, it looks like Davrin is warming his hands up by the fire - how do you think the physics of things like temperature work somewhere magical like the Lighthouse? š¤
I love the purple sparkle effect around gaining approval. :D when hovering over a dialogue line, the wheel sparkles, and when you choose one, it spins. and Rook's name is in purple in the subtitles. its cute!
The Quest Acquired pop-up.
Another quest, this one called "The Price of the Past". A Davrin-associated quest? Davrin's past, or something the Grey Wardens did historically, like what happened to the griffons..?
The purple mist in the dialogue wheel moves and billows, I think that's a cool touch. :)
š„ŗš„ŗ..
Rook then heads back into the Library.
Top left: two more highlighted interactable scrolls Bottom left: this mini-map icon looks like Varric. :) the dev narration mentions that this video takes place well into the game, and that Hossberg is a later game area. if it's Varric, this means that at this point in time, Varric is still alive and based in the Lighthouse with the rest of the crew, that he doesn't die in the prologue. I feel like this isn't really a surprise as the 'death' flags (at that specific point) in the prologue were a lil.. I dunno how to phrase it, it would have been too telegraphed if that was when? and also if his death is to happen at some point in the game, it will have more of an impact if Rook and new players actually have had a chance to spend time with Varric beforehand. yet, it's somehow still a big relief. :D it's like destroying Bianca was retiring him from active field duty. however, I do feel that he's still at risk and might die later in the game. š just that the moment wasn't the prologue.. š that he's not death-flag free, just that the prologue wasn't the time. btw, if Varric is living in the Lighthouse too I hope he has his own lil area too, at least somewhere to sleep etc. Right: this circle is on one side of the Library walls. it could just be a design on the wall, as it's solid and doesn't go anywhere, and it doesn't look like it goes anywhere at that point on the mini-map either, but idk, the circle has the appearance to me of an entryway and on the outside it has gold with blue triangles like the floating artifact in the Library air. maybe this is a dead end for now, but becomes an opened up/unlocked part of the Lighthouse later?
I wonder what's up the corridor past Varric? there are a few other corridors/places we could see on the Lighthouse minimap but didn't explore in this video, I'm so curious to explore it all :)
Lastly we have the Eluvian Room. this eluvian takes you to the Crossroads, and it's the eluvian we see at timestamp 1:00 in the release date reveal trailer. it sounds like the dev narration calls it the "Vir Revas", which could translate as "Way/Path of Freedom". it's fitting - one lens of Solas' rebellion is Solas as a noble freedom fighter. and it makes sense, an eluvian is a portal that takes you somewhere. on the right is a pretty floating elfy thing.
Eluvian pop-up info, including percentage of the map discovered, how many of the (I assume) treasures you have discovered, and how many (I assume) of the bosses you have killed. Is the symbol at the very top the symbol of the Crossroads? I also love the language of "A path has emerged from the mists of the Fade that leads to a gathering point where all eluvians meet - the Crossroads." it's pretty.
Close-up of one of the magic-gizmos that makes the Lighthouse eluvian work. it's a purple pentagon and inside it it has a pointy shaped thing floating and rotating. these look like the magic-gizmo Bellara is seen interfacing with in the release date reveal trailer, pictured below for reference. (also a purple hexagon with the pointy thing floating in it).
General thoughts/speculation on commentary & such:
I think it's hard to know what qunari Rooks can look like til we see CC itself. ^^
"Willingly or unwillingly" - it sounds like you can agree to take charge of the Lighthouse from Solas after the ritual interference goes awry, and if you don't you end up getting it anyways.
Being able to inhabit, explore and shape the space Solas lived in millennia ago when he first fomented his rebellion against the gods is a dream come true, like I wanna yell. it's so crazy (in a good way) and cool/surreal to think this is the case. I'm soo curious to get in there and rifle around. Rook is the one who leads the band of people living in the Lighthouse now, Rook is the one who wields the Lyrium dagger, Solas sees himself in Rook. Rook is potentially on a path towards inheriting the Dread Wolf mantle as well (that could also be willingly or unwillingly..)
'It shapes itself around your personality' - I wonder if some of the changes in the Lighthouse reflect Rook's world choices and their personality (like dominant dialogue tone) or something?
The glowing companion 'talk to me' lamps is a nice quality of life feature.
Considering that the spaces shape themselves around the companions, I wonder about Lucanis' room. š„ŗ maybe he feels safer in a dark open space with nowhere to hide in it so nobody could sneak up on him in there? maybe it's an ingrained tendency owing to the harsh upbringing he had growing up, often going without necessities? maybe he's simply extremely practical and pragmatic, or it's to do with his relationship/history with food and cooking that makes him want to be in the storehouse? maybe this sort of space is familiar, or his room screenshot was taken earlier on in the game before his arc progressed much?
A secret Warden base where people have no idea what goes on there.. this never ends well hh, the Wardens in these sorts of places are always up to something untoward or extreme in the pursuit of their goals of stopping / defending from the Blights. nervous sweating. I wonder what revelations await us there!!
I wonder what could the Gloom Howler be? its name reminds me of the Sandy Howler from DA:I, which was a dragon. if the skull that gets put above Davrin's fireplace is of the Gloom Howler, what clues can we get about the type of entity it is from the shape of the skull? Stalking Wardens and kidnapping griffons implies that whatever it is, this entity has a level of sentience and has plans of a sort, it isn't a mindless beast. what could it possibly want with the griffons? And I wonder when this creature became Davrin's nemesis? Is he a monster hunter because of it? Or was he a monster hunter before it? Also, how does one get mail in the Lighthouse :D
"What's left of the Wardens" implies that the Wardens faced great losses at the siege of Weisshaupt. I wonder, did the First Warden make it? where are they?
Davrin preferring Direct dialogues and approaches makes me curious to find out ingame what the preferences of the other companions are.
Davrin's voice is amazing.
"Turlum", the name for the bond between Wardens and griffons (presumably the one they ride, when the griffon is an adult) moving in unity as one is new lore I think. I wonder what language/culture the word originates from? how does one forge this bond? I can't help but think of TsaheyluĀ from Blue Avatar dhdjfej
On the gods assaulting the Crossroads.. to take control of the network to assist in their plans for the world? (Briala saw the network's potential of the Crossroads' functional back in the day, for totally different plans tho ofc) you could spread your darkspawn armies all over the world more easily by sending them through the Crossroads. like the Deep Roads, but cubed. or simply to wrest control of it from Rook and the team because they know they are the only ones that can stop them and that that's where they're holed up? and what stops the assaulting enemies from entering the Lighthouse eluvian from the Crossroads? Is it something to do with the dagger, or Solas' own power?

Trick or treat!! <333
(sorry if i already swung by with a tot request. i honestly can't remember š„²)
no such thing as not enough tricking or treating!! here's more of this one! so also tagging @arewedoneyet because i didn't mean to give u such a short snippet, i was just really busy and very tired yesterday > <;;
Chay swings their hands again, squeezing gently. āGuilt aside, I am grateful.ā Chayās cheeks darken as his eyes swing between Kim and their surroundings and back again shyly. āI like spending time with you.ā
Kimās own face feels hot as he forcibly swallows back his instinctive responses of spend all time with me and stay with me forever and Iād go everywhere with you. Itās getting harder to hold himself back these days. Especially at times like this, when Chay looks at him so fondly and Kim feels like heās ready to burst.Ā
They round the final corner and there the bus stop stands, as mundane as everyday and Kimās most hated foe. His spite spikes when Chay perks up at the sight of it as well, and Kim slows down until heās an anchor dragging down Chay, stealing precious more seconds and hiding his theft with pouts and other dramatics.Ā
Chay laughs. The sky has filled with dark grey crowds since they began their walk, the dregs of sunshine pushing through turning everything color rich, and Chay glows with it. Kim hungers.Ā
The first drop of rain is a surprise and a shock. Between one startled blink and the next, the last rays of sunshine are swallowed up and the clouds break. Kim hisses and Chay gasps at the rapidly increasingly downpour and Kim ushers Chay under the bus stopās overhead. The rain is thunderous against the thin tin roof, and Kim has to press close to Chay to hear him.
āKim!ā Chay protests anyways, āIām all wet!ā
āI know,ā Kim says unhappily. He loops his arm around Chayās waist and pulls until Chayās pressed entirely down his side. Chayās clothes gently steam everywhere they touch. Chayās hand presses against his chest, not strong enough to push them apart but about to if his worried frown is any indicator.Ā
Kim pulls his hand away and tightens his hold with an eye-roll. āIām fine Chay, Iām not a candle.ā
Chayās worry doesnāt budge, but he doesnāt try to pull away either. āI just donāt like leaving you out in this,ā he says with a frown.
āI could still come with you,ā Kim tries again. Not that he really wants Chay doing anything less than playing hooky today, tomorrow, and every day, but Kimās trying to be better about that sort of thing.Ā
Chay smacks Kimās chest with a half-laugh, half-huff and starts digging through his bag. āDonāt be silly, then youāll be stuck waiting for me all day!ā Kim will still be doing that, just further away, but heās struggles to explain that before Chay lets out a triumphant ah-hah! and holds out an umbrella.Ā
Kim frowns and doesnāt take it. āYouāre staying out all day.ā
Chay rolls his eyes and pushes it into Kimās hand. āWhy do I care about rain? I brought it for you.ā
All of Kimās schemes to steal more minutes from Chay dissipate like steam.Ā
āFor me?ā
Chay snorts and forces Kim to take the umbrella. āYes, you dork, of course I did.ā
Of course, he says. Kim looks out at the misty downpour and tries not to shake as the words rattle through him. Of course he did.Ā
Kimās second personal nemesis appears through the gloom, but the busās arrival is softened by Chay giving him a smile and a squeeze goodbye before he boards. Kim watches him leave silently and unblinkingly, continues staring out into the rain long after the busās tail-lights have faded into the mist.Ā
When Kim finally steps back out into the rain, this time safely sequestered under Chayās umbrella, the drop of sound from the thunderous barrage on tin to the gentle patter on cloth draws Kim up short again. Itās incredible just how much larger every little thing feels on this small scale. Kimās so full of wants and feelings heās shocked he can keep it all inside. Perhaps thatās why he canāt swallow back the lump in his throat, maybe heās finally reached his max capacity.Ā
Kim swallows back what he can and holds his hand out to catch the rain. His skin hisses and crackles and steams, but Kim doesnāt waver. He waits until his hand is fully blackened and cooled to bring it back and press it against his chest to feel the heart within pound against his ribs.Ā
Already, his skin is beginning to pink. It wonāt be long before his hand is once again too hot not to risk further scorching the precious thing. But if thereās one thing Kimās learned on earth, itās how to appreciate the seconds.
#kinnporsche#kimchay#au: heart burdened#trick or treat special#i am suddenly v insecure about this one but also too tired to fix ajfhjfjh#HOPE U ENJOY?

rating lego ambulances: the twenty-tens
#9314 Rescue Services Set
another lego education set that exists only as a small image with a little ambulance barely visible in the background. it looks like thereās actually quite a lot of hospital stuff going on here but the fucking police are hogging the entire foreground of the picture. canāt rate the ambulance so instead I am rating the copsā badness: š®āāļøš®āāļøš®āāļøš®āāļøš®āāļø
#4439 Helicopter Rescue (2012)
very plain. the logo looks cool but itās a sticker. and itās back down to 4w. clearly an afterthought in a set focusing on the admittedly nice helicopter. šš
#4431 Ambulance (2012)
so this is basically a 6w version of #6666, right? weāre all seeing that? regardless itās an improvement over the tiny one from #4439 on just about every level, with a lot of nice details. the stickers seem more forgivable here for some reason although Iām still going to have to deduct points for them. in a hilarious new twist, this one goes back to having the rear hatch that opens upwards, by just putting the entire back of the ambulance including the license plate on a hinge. šššš
#10937 Arkham Asylum Breakout (2013)
arkham again. the prisoner transport vehicle this time has more of a unique appearance, which I appreciate, but which also takes it even further out of ambulance territory. itās just a thing to lock the joker up in. š¦
#60023 LEGO City Starter Set (2013)
okay so. objectively, this is a pretty solid ambulance, another variation on the āone of the nice eighties ones but 6wā theme weāve seen a couple of times. but I simply cannot unsee how itās exactly the same shape as the fire truck. they clearly went to a lot of effort to build them differently to avoid that effect, and it absolutely did not work, at all. here, have a red and white van and a white and red van. also thereās a manhole cover on the roof. šš
#10527 Ambulance (2014)
this duplo ambulance is very happy to be a duplo ambulance. š/š¶
#21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (2014)
full disclosure: when I started on these ratings I had completely forgotten that this was a thing, and now that Iām here Iām not entirely sure what to do about it. the fact that ecto-1 is an ambulance represents very little of its appeal. nobody buys this set or any other ecto-1 toy just because they want an ambulance. which is good because itās not a very good ambulance. the rear doesnāt open at all and itās full of weirdos. š for medical emergencies, š»š»š»š»š» for not fearing spectres.
as a side note, the ghostbusters (2016) version of ecto-1 will not be included on this list. this is because, while the 1984 ecto-1 is a vehicle model that was used as both an ambulance and a hearse, the 2016 ecto-1 is just a hearse, and Iām rating ambulances here. the omission here should not be considered a commentary on the film.
#10605 Rosie the Ambulance (2015)
theyāre just fucking with me now.
#41086 Vet Ambulance (2015)
okay so this says ambulance in the set name but theyāre clearly going for something very different from everything else on this list.Ā this would be a terrible people ambulance but as a weird hedgehog ambulance I actually really like it, especially the tiny stretcher. š¦ š¦ š¦š¦
10728 Miaās Vet Clinic (2016)
this on the other hand is bland. š¦š¦
71228 Ghostbusters Level Pack (2016)
listen. itās very cute, and I liked lego dimensions a lot, but youāre not going to get much ambulancing or ghostbusting done if your ambulance doesnāt have any rear wheels. š š»
dang, there were a lot of lego ambulances in the 2010s.
41318 Heartlake Hospital (2017)
oooh, I like this! similar to past 6w winners like #7890 and $4431, but it picks up a cute rounded hood and a snazzy color scheme that stands out from the pack without being weird, courtesy of the lego friends themeās slightly different aesthetic compared to lego city. sadly friends is also sticker city. šššš
#60204 City Hospital (2018)
I like it! you can see theyāre playing around with the shapes a little more, adding some visual interest. I do have to deduct points for the heavy use of stickers, but this one gets some extra credit for introducing an exciting new technology to lego city ambulances: SIDE VIEW MIRRORS. šššš 1/2
60203 Ski Resort (2019)
I... huh. does... does this count? do the rescue snowplow and the snowmobile towing a stretcher collectively make up an ambulance? šā???

How to Build an Italianate Victorian Home (Base Game and Beginner Friendly Victorian) In the Sims 4 Like a Nerd
Although there is some debate as to whether this is truly a Victorian, the Italianate found great popularity in the United States around the 1840s-1880s. Its main architectural rival was the Greek Revival, which I have a post on here if you enjoy the rectangular, symmetrical faƧade paired with low pitched roofs and friezes. This is the only "beginner friendly" Victorian I put together this season, so even if you're newer to the game, your Sims can still live in class and elegance here. Let's build!
As usual, if you prefer video tutorials or need clarification on nay of the points here, this is the original.
One of the primary goals of the Italianate Victorian was to help its residents feel closer to the outdoors. This was accomplished through building on large lots, utilizing tall windows and ceilings, and keeping the landscaping "natural". The historical colors included lots of earthy tones and neutrals, although you can do whatever you want. As always, you can play however you like, but if you're interested in building up a new set of skills and exploring more techniques and architectural types, this series will help with that.
Floorplan
The first floor will use medium or tall walls, and the second floor will use medium, or possibly short if you are adding a third floor. I recommend using medium on the top floor, not short, so you can use one of the larger friezes. (You can also check out the Greek Revival for some tips on how to get a less ornate frieze.) The front of these homes was typically quite flat, with an occasional balcony or low roof over the front door. The sides were similarly quite rectangular with occasional bump outs and deep decks on the first floor only. This particular build ended up being a rectangular footprint, but even larger homes are basically rectangles attached to rectangles. While this may not feel as fancy as the Queen Anne, it is remarkably more simple to construct and furnish, and still feels super fancy. Rooms generally opened one into another, although you may see centralized hallways like here in some homes, especially larger ones. The kitchen would be at the back, and the large rooms meant bathrooms could be added without having to be as cramped as in other styles were the rooms were initially much smaller. Fireplaces would be placed on internal walls.
Exterior
You can use brick and/or siding in a neutral or earthy color for most Italianates, although depending on the world you may also use some stone. The windows will be tall, and capped with a pediment (triangular piece that sticks out a few inches to "cover" the top of the windows") or inverted-U crown, which was what I was trying to mimic here. If you have Discover University, that pack has some good window options, as well. Height is more important than ornamentation, and shutters are optional. The house will be set up on a foundation that can be brick or stone, and some homes will have a deck wrap all the way around. However, unlike other Victorian homes, the decks will be mostly just on the main floor. In this build I just put one on the back. Wherever you add a main level deck, you will roof it. The main roof will be hipped and low pitched, or potentially even flat. To get this roofline I pulled the eaves out two and pitched the roof to make it look like the frieze was acting as corbels and supporting the roof. Columns are also a nice detail, and will be rounded and generally white or painted to match the home's color scheme.
Landscaping will be natural, but planned. Use plants from the world to help it look natural, keep the shapes organic, and leave some space for lawns and walking paths if you're really going for that estate feel.
Interior
You can connect rooms with double doors or arches, and the kitchen will be at the back of the home. Floor will be wood planks of any tone, and the walls will be earth colors with paneling or molding to match the floor.
If you want to make a more contemporary Italianate, try these:
Lighten the colors all around. Try white or another light color outside and in.
Remove useless ornamentation. Skip the paneling and molding, simplify the spandrels, fences, and frieze, and update kitchen and bathroom cabinets and fixtures.
Keep the tall windows, but consider going for the single-pane windows instead of the fancier ones.
Bonus tips! The Italianate has a very iconic exterior, despite it being so plain, so changing out the siding for something more contemporary, like white plaster, and flattening the roof can still read as an Italianate but bring it straight into the 21st century.
If you'd like to see floorplans and more inspiration, you can check out my Pinterest board here.
This build is on the gallery, as well as a larger one and a micro. I really enjoyed building this one and now I have at least three, and I don't plan on stopping. My ID is sahmandbean and this lot is Italianate Shell. You can also check out Holiday Italianate (Base Game plus the free Holiday stuff) and Micro Italianate (uses Discover University).
If you want to check out this build and the rest of Build Like a Nerd: Season One, you can find loads of builds on my YouTube channel, sahm and bean.
Thanks so much for building with me today! This has quickly become one of my favorite styles, and I hope you like it, too.

Jeep Golf Carts ā Off-Road Power Meets Golfing Fun | NTX Power Sports
If you're an outdoor adventure lover looking for a unique and fun way to explore rugged terrains, look no further than a Jeep golf cart. Combining the best of two worldsāgolf carts and the iconic Jeep designāthis innovative vehicle offers the perfect blend of functionality, style, and performance. Whether you're navigating a golf course or venturing into off-road trails, a Jeep golf cart promises to deliver an unforgettable driving experience. In this blog, weāll dive into why Jeep golf carts are a great option and explore the benefits that make them stand out from traditional golf carts.
What is a Jeep Golf Cart?
A Jeep golf cart is a specialized vehicle that takes inspiration from the traditional Jeep's rugged design while incorporating the size and functionality of a golf cart. Unlike standard golf carts, Jeep-styled carts boast a more robust appearance, often featuring lifted bodies, off-road tires, and enhanced suspension systems. They are perfect for those who want the look and feel of an off-road vehicle without the need for a full-sized Jeep.
Jeep golf carts are often powered by electric or gas engines, providing enough power to traverse not just the smooth surfaces of a golf course but also rougher paths like gravel trails, sandy dunes, or grassy hills.
Why Choose a Jeep Golf Cart?
Stylish Design One of the key attractions of a Jeep golf cart is its stylish and iconic design. Modeled after the timeless look of the Jeep, these carts come with rugged features like a grille front, round headlights, and even optional add-ons like custom rims and LED lights. This makes the vehicle an eye-catcher whether you're driving it around your neighborhood or using it on a camping trip.
Versatility Unlike traditional golf carts, which are primarily designed for smooth terrains, Jeep golf carts are built for versatility. Their off-road tires and lifted suspension allow you to take on more challenging paths, making them perfect for beach trips, forest explorations, or ranches. Some models even feature 4-wheel drive, making them capable of tackling steep inclines and muddy trails.
Comfort and Convenience Even with their rugged exterior, Jeep golf carts are designed for comfort. Many models come with plush seating for up to four passengers, ample legroom, and extra storage space for your gear, cooler, or other essentials. Whether youāre planning a long day outdoors or just a quick run to the local store, the Jeep golf cart has you covered.
Eco-Friendly Options Jeep golf carts are available in electric models, making them a great choice for eco-conscious consumers. These electric versions produce zero emissions, run quietly, and can be charged conveniently at home. Not only does this help reduce your carbon footprint, but it also saves money on fuel, making it a cost-effective option in the long run.
Customizable Features Like full-sized Jeeps, many Jeep golf carts are highly customizable. From roof racks and upgraded tires to personalized color schemes and enhanced sound systems, you can make your Jeep golf cart reflect your personal style and preferences. Some owners even opt for lift kits, winches, or all-terrain lighting for the ultimate off-road experience.
Ideal Uses for a Jeep Golf Cart
Golf Courses: While designed to handle tougher terrain, Jeep golf carts can still perform beautifully on golf courses, making them a standout choice for those who want to mix function with style. Plus, they often have more storage room for your golfing equipment.
Camping Trips: Whether youāre at a campsite or exploring a nature trail, a Jeep golf cart is the perfect companion. Its off-road capabilities and storage options allow you to transport camping gear easily and navigate rough terrain with ease.
Neighborhood or Recreational Driving: Many Jeep golf carts are street legal in certain neighborhoods or gated communities, making them a fun way to get around for short trips. Be sure to check local regulations before taking one on the road!
Farms and Ranches: If you need a reliable vehicle to help you navigate large properties or ranches, a Jeep golf cart offers the ideal combination of ruggedness and practicality. Its compact size allows it to fit into tight spaces, and its off-road abilities make it a perfect choice for farm tasks.

29/09/2024 Assignment 1
On the second stage of this assignment, I started to design houses and towns in the city I created. I researched images of farmhouses, temples, and traditional patterns, sketching three different house designs . Since I want the entire city to have a food-centered theme, these designs incorporate both residential spaces and snack stands. In addition, I drew out some quick sketches of old figures, symbols, and patterns to practice adding texture for the final drawing.
This brings me to the style I would like to explore for this illustration. For this assignment, I would love to use a famous Japanese illustrator, Umishima Senbon, as my main reference. Her work is characterized by clear lines, simple color schemes, and rich details, which I hope to learn from.
Then, I worked on my first draft of the overall design. I also drew three drafts, making slight changes with each iteration. For instance, I experimented with different shapes by changing the outer form of the structure from vertical to round, and added details like a dragon face chimney. However, this was when I found myself stuck. I felt like my drawings were just combining different elements I wanted to include, which made them feel disjointed and random.
Luckily, I fixed the problem during the online tutorial with my professor. First, he pointed out the size inconsistency of the tricycle and the doors if characters were included. He suggested that the tricycle design could be removed or replaced by a huge billboard to avoid the problem. Also, he mentioned another inconsistency of the angry dragon face chimney and the warm vibe I wanted to create, and it was better to replace it with a softer round shape.
The professor also reminded me that my design of the floating city with cables and tubes might evoke a cyberpunk aesthetic, instead of the ancient vibe I was aiming for. To address the issue, he recommended that those could be changed into carved stones and inscriptions. Furthermore, instead of the incense burner, I could design the cityās center as a giant cooking pot. Lastly, the roofs of the towns and houses should be larger and more temple-like. On top of that, some sacred statues could be added to reinforce the cityās cultural atmosphere.
Thanks to the tutorial, I felt more confident to finalize my design. At the end of this stage, I researched more on ancient calligraphy and statues, such as oracle bone script and the Wind Lion God statues in Kinmen, Taiwan. I sketched some designs for the statues and was ready to move on to the next stage.

Top Trends in Wooden Pergolas for Whatās in and Whatās out!
Introduction:
Choosing the right wooden pergola for your outdoor space can be a daunting task, especially with evolving design trends and various functionalities to consider. In Dubaiās dynamic climate, where outdoor living spaces are used year-round, staying updated with the latest trends in wooden pergolas is crucial for making an informed decision. Homeowners face challenges like selecting the right style that balances aesthetics with durability and functionality. With numerous options available, understanding whatās trending can help you avoid outdated designs and invest in features that enhance your outdoor area. This blog explores the current trends and whatās on the decline to guide you in choosing a wooden pergola that meets your needs and complements your lifestyle.
The Evolution of Wooden Pergolas
Wooden pergolas have long been cherished for their classic charm and ability to blend seamlessly with outdoor environments. However, as design preferences and technological advancements evolve, so do the trends in pergola design. From innovative construction techniques to new design aesthetics, the landscape of wooden pergolas is changing rapidly. AsĀ top Wooden pergola service providers in Dubai, we are at the forefront of these trends, bringing the latest advancements and design innovations to enhance your outdoor space.
Whatās In: Current Trends in Wooden Pergolas
Sustainable Materials and Eco-Friendly Finishes:Ā Sustainability is no longer just a trendāitās a necessity. Modern wooden pergolas are increasingly constructed using sustainably sourced wood and eco-friendly finishes. These materials not only minimize environmental impact but also provide exceptional durability and longevity. Seek out certifications such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure responsible sourcing.
Multi-Functional Designs:Ā Todayās wooden pergolas are designed to serve multiple functions beyond providing shade. Incorporating features like built-in seating, storage solutions, and even outdoor kitchens can transform your pergola into a versatile outdoor living area. This trend reflects the desire for outdoor spaces that offer both comfort and utility.
Integration with Smart Technology:Ā As technology advances, integrating smart features into wooden pergolas is becoming more popular. Automated systems for opening and closing roofs,Ā adjustable louvres, and integrated lighting can enhance convenience and functionality. Smart pergolas allow you to control your outdoor environment with ease, using apps or voice commands.
Modern Rustic Aesthetics:Ā The blend of modern and rustic styles is gaining traction. While traditional wooden pergolas exude charm, contemporary design elements like sleek lines, minimalist structures, and mixed-material finishes are becoming more prevalent. This combination creates a fresh look that maintains the warmth and natural beauty of wood.
Customizable and Modular Designs:Ā Customization is key to personalizing outdoor spaces. Modular wooden pergolas, which you can expand or reconfigure according to your needs, are becoming a popular choice. This flexibility allows homeowners to adapt their pergola to changing requirements or seasonal preferences.
Whatās Out: Trends to Avoid
Overly Ornate Designs:Ā While ornate wooden pergolas were once popular, the trend is shifting towards simpler, more streamlined designs. Heavy carvings and intricate details can overwhelm a space and require more maintenance. Opt for clean lines and subtle detailing to maintain a modern aesthetic.
Unfinished Wood:Ā Leaving wood untreated or unfinished is no longer acceptable, especially in harsh climates like Dubaiās. Unfinished wood is prone to damage from the elements, including UV rays, moisture, and pests. Itās crucial to use weather-resistant finishes and treatments to protect your pergola and extend its lifespan.
Outdated Color Palettes:Ā Traditional color schemes, such as dark stains and overly vibrant hues, are giving way to more neutral and natural tones. Shades of gray, beige, and natural wood finishes are trending as they blend seamlessly with various outdoor styles and maintain a timeless appeal.
Lack of Integration with Outdoor Living Spaces:Ā Pergolas that stand alone without integrating with the rest of the outdoor environment are becoming less popular. The current trend emphasizes creating a cohesive outdoor area where the pergola complements other features like landscaping, furniture, and lighting.
Traditional Roof Designs:Ā More dynamic designs, such as retractable or adjustable roofs, are replacing classic flat roofs. These modern options offer flexibility in managing sunlight and weather conditions, enhancing the overall usability of your pergola.
Conclusion
Embracing the latest trends in wooden pergolas can significantly enhance your outdoor living space. Whether youāre looking to incorporate sustainable materials, integrate smart technology, or adopt a more modern rustic aesthetic, staying informed about whatās in and out ensures that your investment is both stylish and functional.

Design Your Portable Building: A Guide to Creating Functional and Stylish Spaces
Introduction:
Designing your portable building is an exciting venture, offering the flexibility to create a space that suits your specific needs, whether for work, leisure, or living. At Glacier Haven Resort, we understand the importance of blending functionality with aesthetics. we'll explore how you can design your portable buildingĀ to maximize both utility and style.
Understanding the Basics of Portable Building Design:
Before diving into the design process, it's crucial to understand what makes portable buildings unique. These structures are designed for versatility and mobility without sacrificing comfort and efficiency. Whether you're planning a home office, a guest house, or a creative studio, designing your portable building starts with a clear understanding of its purpose.
Choosing the Right Layout:
Identify Your Needs: Begin by listing what you need in your space. How many rooms do you need? What kind of storage solutions will you require?
Optimize Space: Use clever design tricks to make the most of small areas. Incorporate foldable or multipurpose furniture and vertical storage solutions to free up floor space.
Selecting Materials and Insulation
Sustainability and Durability: Choose materials that are not only durable but also environmentally friendly. Opt for recycled or sustainably sourced wood and energy-efficient windows.
Insulation: Proper insulation is key to making your portable building comfortable year-round. Invest in high-quality insulation that will help maintain temperature and reduce energy costs.
Design Considerations for Aesthetics and Functionality
Natural Light: Maximize natural light with large windows or skylights. This not only enhances the aesthetic of the space but also reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Interior Design: Select a color scheme and design elements that reflect your personal style while keeping the functionality of the space in mind. Soft, neutral colors can make the space feel larger and more open.
Exterior Design and Mobility
Curb Appeal: The exterior of your portable building should reflect its interior beauty. Consider the building's color, trim, and any additional features like decks or awnings.
Transportation: If mobility is a key feature for your portable building, ensure that the design includes features that facilitate easy moving, such as trailer attachments or built-in wheels.
Practical Tips for Long-Term Maintenance
Regular Checks: Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure your portable building remains in top condition. Check for issues like leaks, mold, and structural integrity.
Weatherproofing: Protect your investment from the elements by ensuring that it is well-sealed and weatherproofed. This includes maintaining the roof, windows, and exterior walls.
Conclusion:
Designing your portable building is a fantastic way to tailor a space that perfectly meets your needs. At Glacier Haven Resort, we encourage you to think creatively and practically as you embark on this exciting project. Whether you are creating a cozy retreat or a dynamic workspace, remember that the best designs combine functionality with personal style. Let your imagination lead the way in designing your portable building, and enjoy the process of making a space that truly feels like yours.

KJERRINGA MED LYKTA (OLD WOMAN WITH A LANTERN) (c. 1899) by NIKOLAI ASTRUP
The painting shows a woman, slightly bent over, wearing black from head to toe, walking with a lantern in her hand. The lantern glows yellow-orange and is placed between two dark-brown log cabins
The scene takes place in the winter at a time of heavy snowfall. The right-hand cabin has long icicles hanging from the roof. The area between the cabins is covered in snow, and large specks of white snow fall onto the cabins and the woman. ASTRUP described the painting in his BLANDEDE MOTIVER ("Mixed Motifs") notebook as follow:
"Early winter morning (fantasy) Snowdrifts. Grey on grey, white and blue, light grey sky with dark grey flakes. The only element not fitting into this grey scheme is a lantern carried by a dark grey figure. The pinkish light cast against the snow fuses with the lantern's form. A vague suggestion of daylight is the only thing showing itself over the rounded snow shapes on a rooftop. The grey probably contains some colors, but these are so subtle, they are not noticed, and nowhere is one stronger than another, to the extent that it sticks out!"
This painting is an example of how neo-romantic artists used landscape and weather as a way to express powerful feelings and emotions through natural forces. In ASTRUPās early work, snow is presented as a natural enemy that must be endured and overcome.
In ASTRUPās later work, however, snow is often only seen in the background, usually on the tops of mountains. Here, however, the snow dominates the scene, blotting out the scenery and threatening to swallow up the figure driving the story. This work also demonstrates the darker, more sinister atmosphere that was prevalent in many of ASTRUP'S early works.

Gutters and Downspouts - Why They're Important to Your Home
Gutters Jacksonville FL may not be the most glamorous home improvement item, but theyāre important to preventing water damage to fascia boards, soffits, eaves, landscaping, basements, and foundations. Untreated gutter problems can lead to costly renovations and even structural damage to your house. A reliable Jacksonville gutter services expert can help you find the right style and material to fit your homeās needs. They can also advise you about a wide range of gutter guards to protect your new investment.
If your gutters are clogged, consider having them professionally cleaned by a local gutter service. This will prevent the accumulation of leaves, pine needles, and other debris that can block your guttersā water flow. These issues can cause overflows and backed-up water, which can damage your roof, exterior paint, shingles, and siding. Itās a good idea to do this periodically to extend the life of your gutter system.
In addition to cleaning your gutters, you should check for any signs of wear and tear from wind, ice, and sun exposure. Look for loose or damaged gutters, rust on downspouts and corners, and discoloration of the gutter metal. If you see any of these signs, call a local gutter service company immediately to avoid future problems.
Some local gutter services companies offer long-term contracts for maintenance, repair, and cleaning billed either monthly or annually. These are convenient and cost-effective for many homeowners. However, you should choose a company that has been in business for years or decades and knows your local weather conditions, home designs, and home maintenance practices.
A reputable local gutter installation company will provide free inspections and estimates for your project. They will also discuss options for gutters and downspouts and answer any questions you have. They will use a top-rated gutter system thatās built to last and will look beautiful on your home.
One of the most popular types of gutters in Jacksonville is the Leaf It To Us Gutters, which mimics crown molding and enhances the curb appeal of homes. Itās a more contemporary design than the traditional half-round gutter and is stronger and more durable. Itās also available in a variety of colors to complement the color scheme of any home.

Like Youāre Caught in the Undertow
Notos - Notos - The Oh Hellos
-
Chapter 3 of Cracking like a dry branch in a westward wind, in which Martyn gets injured and coerced into being Tangoās official diplomat with chicken and potatoes. Contains description of broken bones, unconsciousness, and waking up in a hospital.
Available on AO3 here.
-
Tango was bored.
The day-night cycle of the overworld had quickly lost its novelty, as had the green-ness of everything, the peacefulness, the lack of heat. He had long ago stopped trying to imitate that cool, quiet feeling, knocking down the rounded roofs and mildly colored walls of his first city in favor of the dark and severe shapes of blackstone and basalt, the harsh colors of crimson and cyan, and, of course, the fire. Lots of fire. But never enough to make him feel warm.
Only his projects sparked any interest now; his tunnel-caves styled after those red brick fortresses, his breeding projects that crossed carefully managed hoglins and striders with pigs and horses, and the machines that maintain the last portal to his homeland. That is, until the messengers came.
Scar sent the first one, a terrified tuxedo cat in a three-piece suit. She stammered something about settlers from across the ocean, people with feathers and wings, whose boats had two hulls and whose weapons bore emeralds. The poor girl was so terrified of Tango that he had to dose her with temporary blindness just to get her to sleep.
He dismissed her rambling message as just another rumor the Duke of Colors though might liven up his far-flung allyās mood. It was amusing, but not interesting.
A few days later, a battered husk stumbled into the Neverglades, bearing a letter in Cub Voidstarsā hand. The Red Rock Sovereign was more modest and realistic in his descriptions: yes, parrot-folk in catamarans had made landfall, yes, they wore emeralds on both jewelry and swords, and yes, they had settled in the Teal Cove. Cub also named the leader of these āEmeraldiansā as Grian of the Sunset.
The name was a bit on the nose for a fellow from the Land of the Sunset, but Tango trusted the half-vex, and so sent a courier of his own to extend his greetings to these birds. A nice diversion, but not a lengthy one. The parrot-folk slipped his mind, replaced by more machine ideas and schemes to return his good standing among the Netherfolk.
The parrot-folk would not return to the mind of the Basalt King.
Until one crashed into one of his stained glass windows.
It didnāt break the window, mind you. The glass is very sturdy. But the parrot did break a few bones.
āBroken wing, broken arm, a few cracked ribs,ā the witch doctor commented, his potion bottles clacking as he set the parrot-folkās injuries. āProbably going to have one hell of a headache and neck cramp for a while. Good thing for the helmet, else their skull would have broken too.ā
Tango was holding that helmet now, quite fascinated with the metal it was made of. The outside was iron, for certain, and decorated with gold as well. But the insideā¦
āDamian?ā
The skeleton guard straightened at the name, vertebrae grinding together a bit. āYes, sir?ā
āCould you tell Samantha that Iām coming through as soon as this fellow wakes up to ask her some questions? I think sheāll like this one.ā
Damian saluted. āYes, sir.ā
His armored footsteps were still echoing from beyond the great door when Dr. Vincent pronounced his patient as healthy as potions and splints could make a fellow who just flew headfirst into what was essentially a stone wall. He and Natalia lifted the unconscious form onto a stretcher, great green wings splaying awkwardly as they struggled to keep the splints in place.
āDo make sure that none of the black cats hurt the poor thing,ā Tango called after them, āIāve read that they like to eat birds!ā
-
Tango was there when the parrot-folk came to a few hours later. To be fair, as many off-duty skeletons and witches and humans were right outside the medical ward as could fit in the dark hallways, but the doctors wouldnāt let any in until their King had finished withā¦ whatever he wanted to do with the bird.
They didnāt slowly wake up, squinting and confused. No, their eyes, their violet eyes, Tango noticed, snapped open wide with a gasp. If it werenāt for the weight of their casts and splints, he was sure they would have tried to get out of the bed and leave the room.
As those bright eyes darted around the room, Tango slowly approached them, taking care to rustle his long coat so that he would be noticed. With the sudden fear that sparked in the parrot-folkās eyes when they landed on him, he was glad he had left his morningstar flail in the armory instead of gleaming at his hip.
He clasped both hands behind his back and leaned a bit closer to the parrot-folk with a smile. Or, what he hoped was a smile. āHello! Itās good to see you awake. Do you remember crashing into a stained-glass window, colored crimson and cyan and gold?ā
They blinked. Twice. Then they shook a lock of blonde hair out of their face, dislodged from their headband during the medical treatment. Then they blinked again before answering.
āY-Yes? Yes, I do remember hitting a colored windowā¦ā
Tango smiled a bit wider, he hoped. The parrot-folk had a funny accent. āThatās good! The doctors say that if you remember what happened right before theā¦ concussion! Concussion, yes, if you remember what happened before that, there isnāt any damage to your brain.ā
He continued, slowly and carefully pacing about the room as he talked. āBut you do have a broken armā the right one, I hope thatās not your dominant one, but if it is, sorry, it will be out of commission for a bit āand a partially broken wing, also the right one. The doctors also say youāve got some cracked ribs, but those are very easy to heal. Youāll just need to keep on thaāā
āWho are you?ā The parrot-folk cut him off, fear showing plainly on their face.
āOh, that is so rude of me! Sorry,ā Tango apologized, holding out his hand, āMy name is Tango Tek, Basalt King of the Neverglades! Pleased to meet you.ā
The parrot-folkās mouth worked wordlessly for a moment before they hesitantly grasped the offered hand. Theirs was very warm. āMy nameāsā¦ Martin. Martin Junglewood.ā
Tango grinned as they shook hands. āJun-gle-wood! Thatās an interesting last name, very interesting! Do all parrot-folk have names like that?ā
Martinās face was a study in very cautious bewilderment, as if he was looking at a talking lion. āEr, yes, most of us have names like that. Mineās actually pretty generic. Lots of people have the last names of plants orā¦ no, just plants.ā
Tango hummed, absentmindedly fiddling with the recovery compass at his hip. āPlantsā names as last namesā¦ I guess it isnāt that different from ocelots taking fish names, or skeletons their favorite bone, or witches their potion specialtyā¦ā
-
Martyn looked on in slight fascination and far less slight fear as Tango paced about, mumbling something about āunder-folkā and āillager naming conventionsā and āwhat might Jevin have to say about thisā. He didnāt exactly know what to expect when Grian had sent him to āvisit the Neverglades and see if you can buy some basalt and gold forā¦ I dunno, coco beans or somethingā, but to find their king to be a blue-haired, slightly glowing, very much not human man who radiated constant heat, ordered skeletons around, and fussed over family names certainly wasnāt it.
After a few minutes of watching him pace, he cleared his throat quietly, flinching at how quickly Tangoās head whipped around, those mismatched eyes boring into him. āEr, Iām sorry to interrupt you, but would it be possible for me to eat something? Itās just that I havenāt eaten since yesterdayā¦ or maybe two days ago.ā
Tango looked puzzled for a moment, before realization dawned on his face. āOh, right! Of course, Iāll get something brought over. What is it that you parrot-folk eat? Like, are you vegetarian or..?ā
āN-No, I eat most things. Just no chocolate.ā
The Basalt King nodded thoughtfully, as if Martyn had told him very important information. āI understand. The doctors say you shouldnāt eat anything too strong. Though they are skeletons, so I donāt know how much I trust them when it comes to digestion. Might as well heed their advice, though. What harm could it do?ā
He walked to the doorway and stuck his head out into the hall, the murmurs going silent in an instant. āHey, could one of you, and only one of you, get some baked potatoes and roast chicken andā¦ uh, milk, I guess? Completely plain, mind you. No Nether stuff whatsoever. And only enough for two normal people. We arenāt feeding piglins in here.ā
A chorus of dry Yes, sirās echoed until Tango closed the door. Even then, clattering footsteps could be heard through the stone walls. The king sighed as he leaned against one wall, flicking a flame into existence with his gloved hand and making it dance. āGoodness knows theyāll take so long that itāll be cold once it gets here. But I guess it isnāt their fault, having no need for food, much less a sense of temperature. Useful things, skeletons, but not terribly skilled. Witches, though, are smart as any piglin commander Iāve matched wits against. Very specialized though. Goodness knows how long it took me to find a decent slowness-casterā¦ā
Tango kept on talking, seemingly ignoring Martyn entirely, except when he shaped the flame in his hand to accentuate whatever he was talking about. It was a monstrous thing with tusks, then a two-legged something or other, and then a strange, half-demolished whatsit. The king would switch from topic to topic like a leaping axolotl, and Martyn thought he could hold his own against any gossipy weaving girl.
A knock sounded at the door, startling Tango into crushing the flame. āCome on in.ā
A skeleton opened the door, and proceeded to bring in a small pile of potatoes, perhaps a third of a roast chicken, and a large decanter filled with milk on a standing tray. Two dark glass cups, two bright blue plates, and two sets of black metal cutlery inlaid with gold joined the food on a tall wooden crate Tango dragged out from a corner. He waved the skeleton away, and once the door was closed, suspiciously sniffed the food.
A surprised look crossed his face. āWow, itās actually still warm! The cookās getting a raise.ā
-
Tango quickly heaped a plate with potatoes and chicken and poured a glass of milk for Martin, setting it on his lap before rigging himself a makeshift seat from a few crates of dried herbs. He was busily carving his chicken when he realized that the parrot hadnāt moved an inch.
āOh, am I doing something wrong?ā Tango asked, āDo parrot-folk have some sort of pre-meal prayer or greeting? Do you not use forks? Iām sure there are some Labyrinth chopsticks somewhere in the pantriesāā
āT-Tango.ā Martinās stuttering voice, brimming with confusion and no small amount of fear, cut him off. āYouāre doing nothing wrong, I assure you. Itās just, well, youāre a king. The ruler of the Neverglade, sitter of the Basalt Throne, commander of thousands of skeletons and witches and whatever the hell hoglins are! Why would a king be eating meat and potatoes with me? Iām just a messenger, a stranger from across the ocean, with feathers and claws and these damned violet eyes!ā
Tango wasnāt sure what expression he was making, but he felt nothing but surprise and confusion. āWell, that is true. I am a king, ruler of the Neverglade, and I do sit on the Basalt Throne regularly. I do command thousands of skeletons and witches and hoglins and drowned and phantoms and such. But why would that have any bearing on me eating with you? Youāre here, youāre hungry, Iām also here, Iām also hungry, and I like meat and potatoes. I do hope you like meat and potatoes. Youāre also physically indisposed. Is this a cultural difference? I know there must be many, though I canāt say Iāve studied the parrot-folk in great detail yetāā
āTango.ā Martin says it more certainly this time. āTango, this is more than a cultural difference. Kings and queens and dukes and duchesses and emperors arenāt normal people. Theyāre leaders, theyāre generals, theyāreā¦ not like me.ā
He said the last bit like it was a universal truth he had often repeated, the way Tango would have said āthe Overworld is too coldā, or how Scar says everything.
The surprise and confusion remained in Tango, and he knew that they were painted across his face. āWell, thatās not true. Iāve met plenty of rulers ever since I left the Nether, and theyāve all been people. Different species, certainly; Cubās half-vex, Pearl is of the hoof-folk, Jevinās a slime, and Iām part-blaze-part-stray-part-human. But theyāre all people. Even the bastion lords and fortress kings are enough like people to be called people. Is it different in the Land of the Sunset?ā
Martin shook his head. āI-Iā¦ I wouldnāt know. Youāre the first ruler Iāve ever spoken with normally, let alone shared a normal meal with. Unless you count Grian.ā
Tango, who had finished three potatoes, a good deal of chicken, and a glass of milk between sentences, suddenly turned on Martin with a look not dissimilar to that of a cat spotting a bird. āYou know Grian Sunset?ā
-
Martyn jerked back as far as he could in reaction to Tangoās sudden approach. Which wasnāt very far; all three casts were very heavy. āY-Yes, I do know Grian. Weāre, uh, old friends. Yeah.ā
Despite his extremely obvious stammering and nervous voice, Tango didnāt seem to notice. At least, he didnāt find anything wrong about it.
āReally? Oh, that is fantastic! Iāve honestly havenāt had the time to do much more than send my greetings to Grian, but youāā he pointed a finger at Martyn āāare going to change that!ā
āI-I am?ā
Tango nodded vigorously. āOf course! You canāt very well travel until those injuries are at least mostly healed, after all. Iāve got plenty of living space and food, so itās no trouble for you to stay for a while. Not in the hospital, of course! A proper set of rooms, yes, perhaps in the Glowhorn Spires..? Never mind that! Point is, while youāre recovering, Iām going to pick your brain about Grian and the Land of the Sunset! How does that sound?ā
Martyn was still processing the kingās first few sentences when he declared his intentions, causing his mouth to drop open in undisguised surprise. Once again, Tango didnāt seem to notice or care.
āW-Would this be an official deal? Like, a treaty or agreement between your, uh, Neverglades and Grianāsā¦ Sunset Coast?ā
Tango tilted his head, a motion eerily similar to Grianās own ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½curiosity poseā. āWell, if youād like it to be. OH! Did you say Grianās settlement is called the Sunset Coast? Fitting name, I suppose. It pays homage to his homeland, and is accurate to its location, right next to Cubās wooded plateausā¦ Oh, sorry! An official agreement, right! Sure, sure. Iāll send for paper and ink... and a proper table!ā
-
Tango Tek and Martyn Junglewood signed a treaty of sorts that day, a short and simple document that declared Martyn to be an āofficial diplomat on behalf of the Sunset Coast to the Neverglades, for the purpose of informing the latter nation-civilization of the formerās customsā, and Tango guaranteed him āgood room, board, food, water, clothing, and all things guaranteed by the laws of both nation-civilizations involved to an official of Martynās rankā.
The Basalt King signed the parchment with a flourish of dark blue ink, grinning with pride that he was finally able to show off the penmanship skills that the Netherfolk disregarded so greatly. Martynās signature was rather shaky thanks to his broken right arm, yet much more legible in the same ink. Tangoās odd herald, a witch with perpetually night-vision-dilated pupils, announced to the massive gathering of Nevergladians outside the hospital windows that the Treaty of Blackbone Hospital was complete, evoking a great cheer of voices and clattering bones. Martyn nearly fainted at the noise.
-
The news of the treaty spread across Mainland fast as the dolphin swims, but it reached Grianās ears quicker even than that. Clad in a construction helmet of iron and perched on the edge of one of his unfinished towers, the newly declared Sitter of the Dusk Throne sighed as he gazed north. The dying light of the sun made the water below glitter.
āFor goodness sake, it was just supposed to be a trade trip! I reckon Martyn didnāt even secure that gold. Oh well. I guess it could be worse. I suppose Iām friendly with King Tango nowā¦ā
-
Cub couldnāt help but grin when the Dusk Sitterās messenger arrived, nearly bowling over Tangoās odd little skeleton as they both tumbled into the hallways. Both bird and bones told him the same story; the Basalt and Dusk Thrones were friendly, a bird called Martyn Junglewood was the new ambassador to the Neverglades, a counterpart would soon arrive at the Sunset Coast, and would Climbing Spires object to this arrangement?
The Sovereign shook his head at the last question. āOf course not. The Coast is free to do as their Sitter wishes, as is the Neverglades. Besides, Tango is hardly an enemy. I do hope I can get to know him better myself.ā

Transform Your Patio into a Green Oasis: 5 Essential Tips
Who doesn't dream of having a private, tranquil oasis just beyond their back door? Turning a lackluster patio into a verdant retreat can help make that vision a reality. With thoughtful design, plant choices, and personal touches, you can create an outdoor space that feels worlds away, right in your own yard. Follow these five essential tips to convert your patio into a lush green escape: Read More: Patio Roof Materials: Pros and Cons
Choose the Right Plants and Containers
Selecting plants suited for patio and porch environments is key. Look for varieties that thrive in containers, are drought and heat-tolerant, and provide appealing textures, colors, and shapes. Succulents like echeveria and sedum are low maintenance options that add year-round interest. Ornamental grasses, small trees, and flowering annuals also do well in pots. Arrange groupings of plants with contrasting heights, leaf shapes, and colors for visual diversity. Choose durable pots and planters that complement your design scheme. Materials like weatherproof ceramic, natural stone, concrete, and wood make handsome, long-lasting containers. Matching sets in the same color or material provide cohesion. Use supports, shelves, or piled stones to create dimension to containers, and place bigger statement plants in prominent areas as focus points.
Incorporate Multi-Use Furniture
Furnishing your patio with versatile, multi-functional pieces saves space while offering flexibility. Look for seating options like loveseats or sofas with built-in storage underneath. These allow seating and provide a discreet place to stash cushions or extra throws when not in use. Nesting side tables provide surface area when needed but tuck away neatly when entertaining is over. Modular furniture with lightweight, weatherproof materials makes rearranging or expanding easy down the road. Take advantage of the benefits of modular furniture to customize your layout. Durable and adaptable furnishings ensure your patio remains a comfortable, useful space for years to come.
Include Ambient Lighting
Incorporate lighting to create a magical ambiance on your patio after dark. Outdoor solar-powered pathway lights placed along steps and walkways gently illuminate any hazards. String lights hanging above or wrapped around patio beams lend a warm, festive glow. Place lanterns in assorted shapes, sizes, and colors on tables or staggered along shelves. For stand-alone accent lighting, citronella candles serve the added purpose of repelling mosquitos and other pests. Make sure any wired lighting or fixtures are properly installed by a professional electrician using GFCI outlets. The right lighting takes your outdoor oasis from day to nighttime use. Add Water Features
The pleasant sound of trickling or running water is instantly soothing. Consider installing a compact fountain in a garden bed or corner of the patio. For a flexible option, choose a ceramic birdbath or container water feature. The soft gurgling adds tranquil background noise, perfect for a relaxing hideaway. For spaces lacking electrical outlets, use the sounds of nature rather than powered features. Strategically placed rain chains, a wind chime, or bamboo spout water into containers near theĀ steel garden edging. The serene ambiance of water transforms an ordinary patio into an idyllic backyard escape.
Personalize with Favorite Items
Finally, make your patio uniquely yours by displaying special objects that spark joy. For avid gardeners, arrange potted herbs or vegetables ready to clip. Add framed family photos, artwork from favorite painters, or nostalgic travel mementos. Create a cozy reading nook with a comfy chair and side table. The goal is to surround yourself with items that bring you contentment. With mindful plant selection, versatile furniture, lighting, water features, and personal touches, your patio can morph into a private urban oasis. Spend this season enjoying backyard bliss just steps from your home. Choosing a Veranda Roof Design
If you are thinking about designing a veranda, there are several different considerations to keep in mind. The material you use, the curved or flat roof style, and the type of railings you want can all play a big part in the final design.
Traditional style
The classic veranda is one of the most popular designs of old houses. It is a semi open space, often enclosed by railings. It is a place for socializing and entertaining and provides a transition between the interior and the exterior of a house.
There are several styles of verandas to choose from. These can be either traditional or modern.
Traditional style designs are usually characterized by a combination of wood and wrought iron. Several designs incorporate hexagonal or round columns.
A curved veranda design adds elegance to your home. You can use glass or metal to decorate the space.
An appropriate colour scheme will create a warm and inviting space. Light translucent fabrics are also a good option. This will protect you from the sun and provide an aesthetically pleasing effect.
When it comes to decoration, the right plants will make the space look gorgeous. However, you will want to choose ones that can survive changing seasons.
Curved roof
Choosing curved roof design for your veranda can make your garden a relaxing place to be. They can also offer shelter from the wind and rain. You can decorate your curved veranda with flowers and artwork. Aside from that, you can use a few decorative lights to add a romantic ambiance to the outdoor room.
Depending on your preference, you can choose from a variety of different styles. Architects can help you to decide on which style is the right choice for your home. Curved roofs can be a unique way to add elegance and sophistication to any building.
These curved roofs are perfect for any climate. Compared to standard shed roofs, curved roofs are more efficient and reduce energy costs. In addition, they can reduce harmful CO2 emissions.
There are many different ways to build curved roofs. Whether you prefer a classic style or something more modern, you can work with an architect to create the curved roof that suits your needs.
Railings
Vertical cable deck railings are an attractive option for railings on veranda roofs. The sleek design provides a clean and modern look, and can be installed on wood, composite or metal posts.
In addition to aesthetics, a vertical cable railing may help to improve the safety of your outdoor space. Vertical cable railings are typically constructed of stainless steel cables. They come in a variety of colors. If youāre considering installing this style of railing, consider how it will match the rest of your home.
The best way to evaluate the performance of a new railing system is to consult with a design professional. This individual should know the latest code requirements and recommend the most appropriate railing solution.
The International Code Councilās International Building Code dictates the railing assembly configuration, and the height and angle of the top rail. It is also important to provide the right expansion joints for your particular railing. These should be properly sized to accommodate movement at the strategic locations.
Materials for veranda roofs
Veranda roofs come in a variety of materials and styles. The type of material you choose is very important, and there are some factors to keep in mind. A good roof covering is a necessity for outdoor use. You should also consider the size of the veranda and the types of uses you intend to have for it. For example, if you plan on building a pergola or patio, you may want to consider a translucent roof panel to increase your exposure to natural light.
Veranda roofs can attach to an existing structure, like a shed or a garage, or they can extend out to the exterior walls of a building. Some types of verandas have single-sloped roofs that are attached to the wall. Others have columns that support the roof. Regardless of what you decide, you will need to provide a solid foundation for the veranda. Most of the time, this is achieved with poured concrete footings or precast concrete piers.

Okay but outside the anatomy thereās stuff like (studying art styles I already like): a thick dark outer lineart with thinner, often colored inner lineart is NICE.
I like bright, saturated colors and also Cool colors. I like using weird colors for unexpected things. Love seeing pops of purple and orange on water, blueish trees, pink grass and green skies. But itās all still clearly representative of what theyāre meant to be.
Rim lighting is DOPE.
**back at that anatomy tho**
I like limbs that taper at the joints, though Iām not sure how taper to get before it looks weird (more of that āu gotta study real anatomy to stylize that anatomyā)
Big heads often important for big expressions but once I got the ā1/3 between the shouldersā in my head, my brain like āokay head has to fit between the shouldersā. Most animations meanwhile got heads as wide as the shoulders or wider itās fYNE,,, making the neck thicker is more my style than pencil necks however, so thatās,,, still hard.
Alphonse Mucha and the SYMBOLIC DETAILS. Love a dash of organic and then symmetric details. I love the Borders. And ofc King of the āthicker border, more fluid thin and colorful inner linesā.
JTHM was very detailed for black n white and thatās somethin that also intrigue me. I donāt always like to color things. So that my work could still look POLISHED in black n white would be nice. The way the lines are drawn, thick and jagged, thin yet cuffed with chunky details (say very skinny long boots, but they have THICK buckles). Plusssā¦ jhonen a master of āsimple headshapeā. I would love a simple headshape I can draw from many angles. But itās a big ask. Especially for multiple dif headshapes. But the Big Bug Eyes, Small Chin, easily diversified but often simplified to a triangle nose, all very nice.
She-Ra probably too realism for what I really want (more fun). But itās very much an idealized āsemi-realism but cuteā. Love the lil blush mark everyone gets across their face. Diverse body types. Angela and Glimmer main color scheme queens I love. Perhaps Iām more interested in the shows sci-fantasy aesthetic. The backgrounds? Oh god chef kiss. Inspo for hair perhaps. I really wanna draw hair but itās HARD. show simplifies a lot of beautiful hairstyles across many many characters. Itās got room for study.
**grabs The Aristocats for cat anatomy study only** I would give them bigger eyes.
Tbh. Aggretsuko may just be a good study. Dark thick outer lines. Big expressive heads n faces. Still pretty detailed and cute!
C-could you believeā- The Boondocks. Study how they draw afros and the like. Diverse body types. I really like how they draw clothes and shade in stuff in general (the sort of sharp shading I feel from stuff like jthm too). Itās crisp. Loved Rileyās outfit when he was sellin chocolate (his hood looked like a cloud it was so fluffy). Also EYEBROWS SO GOOD?? How do they do it. (Makes me think of a tumblr artist but Iāll just say Sad Catholic Dog and yāall who know, know). Itās the definition of the forehead muscles ALONG with sharp, defined brows.
OFC. XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN. MY BELOVED. so smooth. So unique in shape language. The swirls everywhere. Hidden yin Yang symbols. Everything given a traditional Chinese aesthetic even if itās not in China (how often they fly to like, America, but itās still red tile roofs and that unique palanquin shape, everywhere). Thick lines, I love how they draw hands and how POINTY the shoulders are. Heads just Round as Hell, EASY PEASY.
Scavengers reign biology my beloved. Lines are uniformly thin, colors seem flat at times, but itās still deep and intriguing. Someone said they draw beards weird but boi I wish I could draw beards at all so BEARD REF.
Thereās a ton of shows I havenāt watched that I know would be good for study but I always take my time watching shows. (kipo how long will my brain neglect you, THE COLORS AND VIBE ARE SO UP MY ALLEY, but perhaps itās the fear of distracting hyperfixation that keep me on a leash).
Lookin to expand style and watched video on it like. āPick features u find important and highlight/focus on em then. Shrink stuff thatās less importantā. BIG EYES. BIG MOUTH. LONG LIMBS. FUN HAIR. At least a moderately noteworthy nose zone cause I donāt want em Gone. I WANT. Anime but not it seems. (Always on that semi realism-cartoony-realism triangle somewhere close to semi-real and cartoony. Which is where anime is!!)
But Iām also curious how this idea would correlate to. Drawing animals. Longer limb kitties. Cheshire-like faces. Maybe. Maybe.

The Goth Manor - A Resurrective Renovation (Little CC Necessary)
Or well... just a makeover! What better than a makeover to start the new year
About
In the 11 years, I've been playing this game, this was the only house in Sunset Valley I was always a bit too nervous to give it a makeover. Partially, that was of course because of the somewhat complex architecture of the house itself, but also for the fact of accidentally ruining the 'theme' of, what is the trusty Goth Manor we know!
However, in my latest rotational gameplay round, when I got to the house, I just felt that the more I played in it, the more... bland it felt? Especially compared to all the other houses in Sunset Valley that I had prettified (Whether small changes or massively). Thus, the end result!

Some of the goals
Initially, I started with some changes that just help regarding gameplay, and initially "quality of life changes". Not sure about you, but Gunther for example, would never cook in the kitchen! Instead, he'd always just start barbequing hotdogs. This meant that my dude had to walk all the way to the fridge to get it... And that's why I decided to create an outdoor kitchen bit Ā (Also, because in my game they usually have tons of parties). In my save currently, Mortimer is also a teen, and usually when he becomes that, I have him explore some science-y skills. (Handiness, Science and Logic) Whereas as a child I'd have him pursue some creative skills as well as collecting bugs and sometimes gems. Usually, his bedroom is so small that all that stuff just doesn't fit, so it's now quite common in my saves to have him re-purpose the attic to his own (And add some more clutter to it to make it feel like an attic! ) Regarding the idea of the greenhouse, Cornelia happens to have the "perfect garden" lifetime wish, but the house doesn't nearly reflect any signs of her pursuing that. Therefore I felt that adding the tons of plants and 'harvestable plants' (and the greenhouse ) was the right thing to do. That way, she can happily take care of her garden and hopefully pursue her dreams finally! (She sure did in my game!)
Colour Scheme
Regarding the colour scheme, the original house had some interesting colouring going on. While it showed a good "old house is old" theme, it would also not show it as much in other parts of the house.
For example: The master bedroom would be all greyed-colored and old-looking, just like the attic, but the livingroom and the guest room were all fine and somewhat 'new' looking.
That I hoped to fix with coming up with a primary colour scheme for the interior: Green and red, with a touch of various 'aged' woods Ā (since not all aged woods turn grey!). I also hoped to therefore give a really nice touch of a more 'rustic' parts of the house, but also something you might remember from the Addams family's house (primarily the 1964 one), but with more elements where you notice the house has been around and lived in for a long while. Hence the flower-patterned curtains :p
I also felt that regarding the outside, having a second colour with the white-greyish added a nice touch to the house. A lot of old victorian houses (particularly American victorian houses, usually renovated though), you notice that they usually went with a white and then a touch of whatever-colour-fits. I did feel that going with green just felt like a good move, since it also made it so it wasn't too "popping" with the greenery around it.
Architecture
While I didn't change too much, I was always bothered by the 'front door' (the part with the kitchen). Compared to the rest of the house, it just felt that the devs tried to fix it up a bit but didn't quite know how. So I decided to add, what a lot of victorian houses have, which is a porch! Ā Might make it a bit more spooky too
Now, you might also wonder while looking upon the images and think: "Why the secret vampire basement?". I'm not sure either But in my save, I wanted to make a secret vampire "bed & breakfast" part, where they could hide from whatever endangerments they face. Because... Sunset Valley doesn't really have many places for them to go, especially compared to Bridgeport.
Additional Info On What comes with the house as well:
The Living room Fireplace is Fireproof, because that's also one of the quirks whenever I play this house, and that's the fact that there is always a fire
