It is not the most showy content at the moment though....but soon!#I have made more spritesheets + wrote a 20 page script for the beginning of the game + lots of mechanical stuff.#OOH and our main town has a map and I've hammered out most of the major character designs!#(I have a comic I will share later this week about how character design talk in a team setting has been going so far.)#This gif is to share a little bit of whimsy and joy with you all. #helen by maria edgeworth #is equal parts slog and wild ride #i can see why this would have been popular in jane austen's time #but it's exactly why it's dated now #all these upper-crust people talking about current literary figures and customs #flinging around french all the time #compare that to austen's middle-class country people #who live in a different culture than us but have a lot of the same normal daily problems #also austen's pacing and dialogue are so much better #the number of times characters stop to expound upon some philosophical point!#just in the course of daily conversation!#this story's fun enough for what it is #(digging the 'love triangle' where one of the guys is just going after the girl because the other guy annoys him)#but while i can see why austen might have enjoyed edgeworth i hope she knows she was the better author

#i made poor choices on Stitch but worked with what i had #my art #ooak doll #doll custom #also in case you cant tell Stitch and Seam are siblings/made by the same guy and Pupet was made by another character entirely #which is why they look so different #Stitch and Seam were made to be flawless living porcelain doll creations so theyre fancy and ornate #and pupet is just a living ragdoll made out of necessity for a daunting task but still loved thats why hes more homespun #rotating the lore of stitch in the ditch in my mind #also dont mind that the story is called stitch in the ditch despite a character being named stitch #its not about him falling into a hole #its just about fun sewing wordplay

#ask #catboygirljoker #boe #boe tai marrow #my art #my characters #huh? wuh? who goes there #no but seriously. its just the D-Sides logo overlaid where it usually is on my normal icon #it felt kind of empty/weird without it so that's why i have it on the flags #might be a little strange but i liked how it looked #attempted to incorporate the flag into the logo itself but couldn't for the life of me get it to look comprehensible #and like i couldn't use the ace flag as a pure background because it blends too much with boes colours #so i had to do a custom design with the flags to get a nice shape that works well behind boe #honestly took me all day to figure out #i think my previous attempts did look cool. but again. kinda incomprehensible in icon form. due to the amount of small shapes in the logo #or.... the d-sides cover. not logo. anyway #also wow its been a while since ive actually drawn boe. so he looks a little messy. or. messier than usual when i draw him #granted i think he turned out pretty well despite how long its been #especially had to touch up some final adjustments. with the eye shapes and the irises #but anyway!!! thank you for tha ask :)#had a lot of fun with this joke

oh wow they actually give you the choice to explicitly identify as transgender freely with zero requirements and it unlocks new dialogue choices

#also offering you 3 different stages to establish how your character feels about their current body #“Still getting there” or “I love how I am” or “I worked hard to here here and I'm proud”#That is genuinely so touching and impressive #it left me awestruck #the fact they didn't shy away from the word transgender??? That they let you pick it as an identity ingame #and not a thrown off choice buried at the end of the list in character customization #I'm so happy #we've came a long way #side not i am so fucking happy the open world thing is gone and it's kinda linear missions now #so much more satisfying and fun #Every character i meet has been a hit after a hit after a hit #and the combat is actually fun and not boring this time around #reminds me of origins in a beautiful way #Yeah Veilguard wins over Inquisiton in my heart any day #♡otherfandoms #♡dragon age #dragon age veilgaurd spoilers #also of course i picked the transgender option #not every day you play a game that acknowledges non binary as a form of transgender #i feel happy #a warm kind of happiness

I wanted to say, bc I saw someone mention Geralt as an example of a predetermined character in an rpg that works, that yeah, I fully agree it can work! But in Geralt's case, for example, he's a well established character who's fully written before you start the game. He has his own traits, his flaws and shortcomings, history, relationships, etc. He's just as well written as any other character in the story, and the only things you have power over are his choices and a bit of his fighting style(sometimes his hair as well), but everything is made to fit with who this character is as established before the game even starts. Think of the origin characters in Baldur's Gate 3, it's the same thing- they're not customizable, they're established before you even start, and the only control you have is over their journey. None of these are ever meant to be a blank slate, and they're written as such.

With this Phyre character it's like they're trying so so hard to tread the line between "this is a character that stands on their own" and "this is a blank slate you can fully customize". What you end up with is a very "meh" sort of character, who's not one or the other, without enough wiggle room to make your own story however you want and not enough to get attached to them as they are. We get attached to Geralt bc he's a fully written character in the game, you just control his actions. The problem with Phyre is that they're neither a fully written character nor fully yours to write.

#and like ok it's normal to have limitations #like for example dragon age has background limitations right #but things are still left open enough that you can easily make your own story with those limitations #a story which could be wildly different from another player who chose the same background #and that's the fun of it #but this isn't it #you can't even customize their appearence for starters #which is a big part of a character's writing. you can't write a black character for example if you're forced to play as a pale woman #how could you write a native american who maybe never cut their hair bc of their culture when you're forced to play as mr or mrs undercut #honestly I think either you commit to making them a blank slate and allow as much customization as possible #or you just write a predetermined character that's actually compelling #sleep.txt #vtmb2 #but anyway this is just my opinion rn with the current information #I could be wrong idk!! maybe they did it right. maybe when the game comes out it'll be so good I'll have to eat my words #but rn I'll be honest with u chief I'm not feeling very optimistic
