As amazing C and MC's rivalry is, I can't stop thinking about how competitive Elias would be during events where parents had to attend, say something swimming related. I can imagine him yelling and being the biggest supporter while beefing with C's mom 🤣🤣😂

the natatorium’s air was sticky with chlorine and nervous energy, the sound of splashing water punctuated by the muffled echo of parents yelling over each other.

it smelled like bleach and snack bar nachos, a sensory combination that left you feeling vaguely ill. parents packed the bleachers, cramming into rows with territorial elbows and passive-aggressive blanket spreads, while the kids—most of them wiry and shivering—fidgeted in clusters by the pool, nervously adjusting their swim caps.

you sat on the bleachers, clutching the strap of your goggles, trying to tune out the background noise of overzealous parents and the faint, taut laughter of kids waiting for their turns. beside you, C was idly tapping their foot against the concrete, exuding the kind of nonchalant cool that set your teeth on edge.

“don’t think too hard about it,” C said, not looking at you. “overthinking leads to choking. you wouldn’t want to embarrass yourself in front of all these people.”

“thanks for the pep talk,” you shot back, trying to ignore the way your stomach was twisting itself into knots.

“anytime,” C replied, smug and effortless.

it wasn’t fair how calm they were right now. even with their dark brown hair clinging to their forehead and a bruise-like shadow of exhaustion under their eyes, they looked quite nonchalant and uncaring. like they belonged here in a way you didn’t, even if you were the one with better times in practice.

a sharp voice cut through the din, rising above the clash of sound.

“let’s go, kiddo!”

your father. of course.

everyone else was sitting politely in their spots, clapping politely at the polite intervals. elias stood at the edge of the bleachers, one hand gripping the metal railing like he might vault over it at any second, the other cupped around his mouth to amplify his already too-loud voice.

“that’s my little shark!” he bellowed, even though you weren’t even in the water yet. you were still waiting for your event, seated with your teammates and trying to disappear into the bench. “you show them how it’s done! this pool’s your kingdom!”

“he looks like he’s going to start swimming himself,” C said, tilting their head toward the commotion.

“at least he cares,” you muttered, though you could feel your face heating up.

C opened their mouth to retort, but another voice joined the fray—low and scornful, with a faint french accent curling around the edges.

“perhaps if you let the professionals handle it, monsieur, your child wouldn’t be embarrassed before the race has even begun.”

your head snapped around in time to see her: louise lecomte, her presence as cutting as her cheekbones, arms crossed and expression caught between disdain and amusement. she stood out even in the chaotic crowd, her elegance unruffled despite the humid air and cacophony of shouting parents.

elias straightened immediately, his face twisting into a theatrical scowl. “my kid’s going to wipe the floor with the competition. don’t worry about us, ms. lecomte. maybe worry about yours keeping up.”

louise’s smile was razor-thin. “ah, yes. because nothing says good parenting like living vicariously through your child’s achievements.”

“better than showing up just to critique everyone else,” elias shot back, his voice rising enough to turn heads.

“i am here to support my child, not treat this event as a proxy war,” louise said smoothly, though her chalcedony green eyes flashed.

you sank lower on the bleachers, wishing you could evaporate into the chlorine-soaked air. beside you, C snorted. “your dad’s really going for it, huh?”

“shut up,” you hissed, yanking your goggles over your head.

“he’s not wrong, though,” C continued, their voice maddeningly even. “i’m probably not going to place. swimming has never really been my thing.”

“then why are you even here?”

they shrugged, leaning back and stretching their arms over the bench. “extra credits.”

you could barely suppress your eye roll. honestly, you weren’t even surprised at their answer.

still, they weren’t the one with their father breathing down their neck like some vicarious olympian, shouting encouragement loud enough to drown out the starter’s whistle.

“first heat up!” the announcer called, and you rose to your feet, every muscle in your body taut with tension.

the water was a sanctuary and a battlefield. the moment you dove in, the noise from the stands dissolved into a muffled roar, your world narrowing to the lane lines and the rhythm of your strokes.

kick, pull, breathe. over and over, until the rest of it fell away—the pressure, the crowd, the looming figure of your father yelling incoherently.

you swam like something primal, something desperate. when you hit the wall at the end, your lungs burning, you looked up at the scoreboard and saw your name in gold.

elias’s cheer was deafening, his voice cutting through the applause. he was practically leaping over the railings, shouting your name like it was a victory chant. you wanted to be proud—you were proud—but mostly you just wanted him to sit down.

C finished a few heats later, their time decent but not medal-worthy. they climbed out of the pool without much ceremony, shrugging a towel over their shoulders like they hadn’t just faced a crowd of hundreds.

“congrats,” they said to you, their voice light but edged with something unreadable.

“thanks,” you replied, unsure if you were being mocked or not.

by the time you were leaving the building, the crowd thinning as families trickled out into the cold evening, louise intercepted you and your father. she was still impeccably put together, her scarf draped artfully around her neck, her balenciaga coat fitting her completely.

“congratulations,” she said, her tone warm but her eyes fixed on elias. “you must be so proud, monsieur. though i suppose modesty was never your strong suit.”

elias bristled immediately. “some of us don’t need to be modest when our kids win gold, ms. lecomte.”

you wanted to sink into the floor.

louise laughed lightly, the kind of laugh that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “oh, elias. always a little too loud. it’s a good thing that your kid clearly inherited their good traits from their mother.”

she turned to you then, her gaze softening slightly. “well done,” she said, and for a moment, her smile felt real.

“thank you,” you mumbled, glancing at C, who was leaning against the wall, watching the exchange with visible annoyance.

“come on, C,” louise said, tossing her scarf over her shoulder. “we’ve had enough of this circus.”

“yeah, yeah, maman,” C replied, sauntering past you with an infuriatingly smug expression. they stuck their tongue out at you as they passed.

before you could react, they were gone, trailing behind louise like a shadow.

elias huffed beside you, crossing his arms. “unbelievable woman.”

“you’re both ridiculous,” you muttered, already walking ahead. “i was beginning to wonder who were the middle schoolers and who were the adults.”

while elias huffed playfully, there was a flicker of warmth in your chest that you couldn’t ignore. as mortifying as he was, as obnoxious as his volume and his competitive streak could be, there was no denying it: your father loved you loudly, shamelessly, with his whole being.

and maybe, as you let him ruffle your hair despite your indignant protests, that wasn’t the worst thing in the world.

Do you ever think the flaw of Lukanette is that the couple is too good to be true?

Because it's interesting that the only thing keeping them from being together and break them apart in canon had been Marinette's secret instead of her crush.

Which, for a show that hinges on the main duo's romance shenanigans, isn't a good way to sell their main couple if the side couple is too compatible 😂

Think the writers kinda didn't gaf about Lukanette or Luka in general on god

We didn't even get a fundamental reason why they wouldn't work out like we did with Adrigami

So her getting with Adrien feels like a retcon of their whole break up episode, something else I really disliked about season 5

I think it's factually correct to say Kagami got wayyyy more character development and screentime with the main characters than Luka did

Man they were so cute he was so compatible with Mari bc his chill personality totally balanced Mari's chaotic energy. He's very clearly a source of comfort for her before, during, and after their relationship.

But Marinette's affect on Luka too,,,, Luka deciding to give up on convincing Bob Roth to credit their stolen art, only for Marinette to shock him by turning right back around to give him even more hell for his misdeeds??? Feels like both got something out of their relationship,,, or at least could've,,,,if they'd been explored a lil more,,,,

Am I saying they were perfect? Fuck no the writers made sure their OTP always got hammered into their relationship to stop it dead in its tracks somehow no matter how unnatural it was

But their foundation was so natural and strong and beautiful,,,the way they were both implied to be crushing but their big episode together wasn't even surrounding that,,,,just them hanging out,,,then getting angry their friend was being ripped off,,,,,friends before anything else,,,,,ugh,,,,

idk i think the "he's too perfect for her" reason for not choosing one love interest over another is nonsense...idk if that was what they were trying to say but if so I disagree like why wouldn't you choose someone you literally acknowledge as the better option (Not saying this about Adrien, just about this trope in general)?

i can 100% see Nezha and mk's relationship (regardless if it's platonic or romantic) being equally beneficial and detrimental. like there so much they could help each other with but also subconsciously cause serious problematic habits/ thought processes/ coping mechanisums for each other and themselves the biggest thing my brain latched onto was how MK could become Nezha's first truly safe space.

Nezha going what i know and understand about his lore and what we can glean from the little we know in the show's canon, definitely has it rough in the celestial realm. he had a very troubled childhood and is clearly haunted by his past and is being defined by it despite his efforts to grow and prove that he's better now. he can command respect for his strength and power but people still question him as a person, always waiting for him to slip up. what relationships he does have he probably doesn't feel fully safe expressing his real self and thoughts because it poses potential risks. then mk comes into the picture. Nezha's given him a safe place to talk openly and he'd want to offer the same to the prince. even if he can't help directly he knows just having someone to vent to can help. its small stuff at first, little complaints here and there about work and the celestial realm, but slowly nezha starts to open up about more personal stuff. stuff with his family, with other celestials, and about his past. and to his amazement and relief is met with only empathy and understanding from mk, even after learning about the darker stuff MK never judges him. Nezha doesn't have to mask anything about himself around mk, infact he's being encouraged to relax and just be his natural self around him. he's truly safe when its just him and mk, that feeling has to be euphoric for the poor guy used to being on guard constantly even around the people he loves.

but of course, could easily lead to a mutually unhealthy co-dependency. nezha's already been isolated to some degree having never had much of a positive support structure, and mk's slowly isolating himself away from his established support structure. resulting in an echo chamber of two very well-meaning but very mentally ill people.

(i'm so sorry this turned into a short essay I've been waiting three hours to get of shift so i can spill my brains out about this. i have more but I'm going to end it here in fear that i'm being a bit much about these two)

You’re so right, Nezha and MK are at the same time a good counterbalance for each other while also being accidentally self-destructive. MK is a chaotic lil gremlin who follows his emotions and worries about consequences later and Nezha (in LMK at least) seems to be trying very hard to come at things logically and approach from a more grounded, duty-based perspective. They both could use a splash of the other’s energy in that manner, so in that way it’s for sure a good thing that they’re getting closer.

Problem is, like you said, these boys are sooooo mentally ill 😂 The feeling that they need to constantly be proving themselves, giving a little more away every time, pushing their own boundaries and suffering in silence because it’s what someone else needs- these are things they might accidentally end up encouraging in each other…. Actually, probably not even accidentally. They see the other working crazy hard and being run ragged physically and probably emotionally too, and they’re like “I am SO proud of you for sacrificing so much!” ..and both of them have never felt so seen as when the other says that to them. It’s validating their worst impulses to just keep going and giving because their own feelings about it are less important than everyone else’s.

Also, the fact that they feel like they can expect to get that praise when they admit to being stressed might even make them be more open about it. Only with each other, though… if they were to mention feeling overworked or burdened to their families, they know already that they would not get the response they were looking for.. but again, even if it means they’re being more open, it’s still not a super good thing that it’s reinforcing destructive behavior. :U

Wild Life Episode 3 Thoughts

Sorry I don't have very good commentary this week. I was really busy and then life happened so I watched these POVs over the course of 6 days and didn't always take live notes.

The snail gimmick is iconic! Another amazing wildcard and a good Grian reference as well as being memey!

Someone joked about them being soulbound to the snails and I'm praying for the return of a soulbond Wildcard so hard right now

I'm genuinely concerned Skizz and Jimmy won't make it to episode 5. I hope we get some more passive wildcards coming up or this is going to be a pretty short series (also I would like them to get some stuff done)

Grian freezing the game is the lore event ever. Watcher powers are real but also he's clearly fighting back against their agenda more this season (once again such angst potential here RE: Grian knowing the wildcards ahead of time)

Ren digging all those holes looking for their horse is literally the definition of insanity and it's hilarious

Martyn and Etho interacting is always interesting both because the anime skin boys are hanging out together and because they have literally opposite playstyles. Martyn is crazy reckless and Etho is soo careful.

WHY DO REN AND MARTYN HAVE A DOUBLE BED

I really want to know all the snail names, since not everybody died this ep

I love that we're kind of going back to "suggestions" again, what with Tango killing Skizz and Martyn making snails invisible just for kicks. It feels like 3L and it's so fun.

I was so excited for Bdubs angst hour only for him to change his mind and not feel bad about anything after all

Scar and Lizzie being in the caves for the introduction of the snails and trying to figure out what's going on feels like a horror movie premise. People mysteriously dying to snail related stuff, and then a mob that's not in the game shows up and looks similar to the other person you're with and is following you around...

Team Bam/The Bamboozlers are as chaotic and struggling as hard as I expected. I don't actually want Lizzie to loose her teammates because I want everybody in until the last session, but it would be really funny if she did.

🧸 Bison, my chaos cutie patootie killer

Like Kant, he doesn’t remind me of any of Khaotung’s previous characters. Bison is unique in being a dichotomy of cute, romantic, chaotic, aware yet hopeful.

I felt mixed about the beginning scene. There’s a part of me that was like “yasss, get it. You seductress.” That expression on his face when hugging the uncle, I’m not 100% sure but I do think he likes to be perceived as attractive and gets satisfaction from it (respect). But I also felt he is resigned to being a decoy in this way and is holding the guy off until Fadel can come in..sigh…he didn’t pick this life. I guess all of the characters are in situations because of others choosing. How they all react to it is different.

On the assassin front, I think he isn’t as reassured as Fadel that they’re killing “bad people”. I think that justification has appealed to Fadel’s sense of justice. I don’t fully understand Bison’s perspective on it yet as he thought it was cool that their killing was in the newspaper. He expresses not wanting to kill but it looks to me to not stem entirely from what’s right and wrong or good and bad. He seems to be dissociating from the moral implication as he knows he can’t leave his current situation at the moment..and he was raised with a different value set compared to the average family.

That flashback told us a lot. Him expressing him self drunk by shooting off rounds in a karaoke bar 😂. He seems to have a large desire to be ‘free’ and find himself. He’s definitely young. It reminds me of Peter Pan Syndrome or Fantasy Prone Personality. Bison clearly had a heavy upbringing, so he does have street smarts or awareness when it’s needed. But because he missed out on his childhood, he’s expressing it later in life. It can make him seem naive or overly romantic but the awareness IS below the surface.

While he does have that younger brother annoyed energy with Fadel, you can tell he loves him. Fadel is obviously protective of Bison but I think Bison would not allow anyone to mess with Fadel as well yet probably handle it more chaotically.

Him at the bowling alley. Love that “don’t bullshit” me vibes. It’s funny coming from someone who frequently fakes his identity but maybe that’s why he calls it out. He craves authenticity and honesty from people because he isn’t living that way himself. He’s down for the fun of a one night stand as it’s typical for his life but anything beyond that is new territory and that’s when I saw that hyper romantic version of him.

Cute him kills me. I’m a sucker for cute. I love both Kant and Bison’s cute moments. I find it funny that they don’t have them as much with each other. It’s like one is confident and flirty while the other is bashful and cute or they’re both suave, teasing and flirting. If they were both simping and cute with matched energy..hmm. When Bison was practically twirling his hair responding to Fadel “🥹 He likes me?” and that’s all he heard. I experienced intense cute aggression. I also felt nervous af with the vibe of what’s to come.

♨️💭 I don’t know the full dynamic yet (sub/brat/dom/top/bottom/verse) so can’t talk too much on intimacy. Bison gives me brat energy (as a brat ☺️). He likes to tease with the whole intercepting the kiss with a burger and pouty with the ice cream. He showed some dominance in the bedroom by reminding Kant he’s not doing it solo and was over Kant at one point. But also relented and joined Kant on the bed and gave some control to Kant in the end. I think the m*sochism will come from a place of control but the opposite of Kant, gaining control. There is a lot of trust and love when your partner gives over that control and trusts you to take care of them while balancing pleasure and pain. I think Bison wants to be loved for his authentic self (whomever that is and he doesn’t fully know). So Kant showing so much trust in Bison will push Bison to fall harder and faster maybe.

I just had my memories of the Barbie Princess and the Pauper movie unlocked, and I must ask for your opinions on Preminger.

I don't even simp for him, he's just like... chaotic theatre energy villain, wanting to become king. Played the long game for TEN YEARS just to get where he is, has so many iconic lines, and the best villain song. His sense of fashion is down the line of "I must make sure my shoe ribbons match my bowtie". His dog is cursed af in the "old Barbie movie" way.

I've seen so many tik toks of this man, his VA sounds like he had so much fun and BECAME Preminger, making him so energetic and campy. I could probably write a character analysis of him but Idk if you've seen the movie and I don't remember any of it besides him (which probably means he stole the show tbh).
