Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....
And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.
The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.
And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.
Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.
HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.
But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.
That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:
His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.
Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.
#see also: my grinding teeth when people disparage his circus origins#like the only thing its good for is colorful backstory and explaining his acrobatics#THERES. SO. MUCH. THERE.#theres so much EVERYWHERE in every aspect of his backstory and his preexisting comics and yet over and over we get#....what if we just ignored all that and did what the fuck ever as though this character has nothing integral to him or fundamental to say#to be fair my gripes with Taylor are not exactly interchangeable with my gripes with the previous runs#but I lump him in as an extension of them because while evocative of different SIDES of my ennui with these takes on Dick.....#the thing about Taylor's stuff to me (or the parts I read at least) is that its generic as hell while only retaining superficial elements#of Dick's character and stories in order to point to them and say see these are definitely about Dick Grayson. like....only in very surface#level ways. underneath that theyre basically generic superhero adventures that could easily be retooled to be about a pretty sizable number#of other characters. tbh with the whole alfred inheritance thing it honestly felt from the get go#that Taylor was more interested in writing a kinder gentler Batman like a Bruce from one of the animated shows like#The Brave and the Bold who gets along better with everyone else. even the way the Brave and the Bold largely exists to use Batman's#popularity as a star vehicle to platform his co-superhero for the episode lends itself to Taylor's approach in his NW run#with the central figure - only nominally DG imo - basically existing as a platform allowing for the drafting of any other character he want#to write in any given arc or story in a similar way to how Bruce is utilized in Brave and the Bold#anyway. idk idk. my issues with Taylor are not the same as the others exactly but also they are and also I just plain dont like the guy#so I complain about him at any given opportunity even when its not technically as accurate or relevant as it possibly could be#I Am Flawed. its fine though dont worry about it. its called being nuanced

anyways yeah. sun has been having the worst time of her fucking life since she got kidnapped by starline. he wasn't as nice to her as he was to sonic, since he (correctly) assumed she doesn't have MCP (Main Character Protection) and thus can be tampered with more thoroughly.
so what's he do? well, he decides to be funny. after doing some research into snowpoint, he learns about their local legends, one of which speaks about a beast that wanders endlessly around the mountainside, looking for stray souls to gobble up. and he decides to create that. with sun.
i mean, it works out pretty well for him. this way, he can stop her from ruining everything, and he can also add an extra layer of protection to his "keep sonic in snowpoint" plan. cuz if anyone ever snapped out of it and DID try to leave the mountain, they'd soon find they couldn't. because sun would stop them.

Champion of the Caustic Elder Dragon

"A better world starts with deciding what we're prepared to lose."
#my posts#guild wars 2#gw2#gw2 fan submission#Dragonheart Pirkko#Flourish AU#with all the sales going on i finally finished her look#she needed the maguuma shoulders + wanderer mask#(the wanderer mask NEVER goes on sale so if you want it you better grab it like Now. no really look at the gemstore history)#(it hadn't even been in the store at all since 2022 and this is the first time it's ever been on sale I Am Not Joking)#the only thing i wish is for a Vlast variant for the Aurene leggies for her but oh well. not every dream will come true.#i really gotta talk about this particular AU sometime tho tbh...#in Regrowth she's afraid of what she is and could become.#in Flourish though? she accepts even the parts that scare her. her power isn't something to fear. it's a tool and a weapon.#the blood of the jungle dragon flows through her veins and Tyria WILL hear her ROAR. her ENEMIES should be afraid.#she becomes the Champion of Vlast for a lot of reasons but the most significant is that they're so much alike.#neither has ever been anything other than the destiny that was set before them... and they don't know who they are outside that context.#they're trapped in roles they were molded for since their first breath. they barely understand the world they were built to save.#and yet... in spite of it all. they continue on. they do what they must. they fight for those who can't fight for themselves.#they're going to figure it out together... because in this big bright bold world they're the only two that REALLY understand each other.#they want to leave the world better than it was for them.#... even if they likely won't survive to see that happen.#the future will be better because it has to be. it must be. otherwise what have they spent their entire lives fighting for?#they don't belong to this world... but they can still build a better one. one that won't need anyone like them ever again.#I have... many thoughts about these two...

I am now imagining that back when Optimus first got back from the Orion arc and during the start of the first battle with Megatron since then, Ratchet instantly just went "aaaand I forgot about that, of course that's back."
Oh this hit him the second after Megatron had done his usual half-flirt and Ratty heard exactly the shift in Optimus's voice as Oppy proceeded to double down and throw a flirtatious remark right back.

[ID: three images of a lineless Alastor fanart and sscreensho redraw of his movie director costume from episode 1. His skin is gray and there is a lavender-ish light casting a glow on his right side. He is standing smiling, his right hand is holding his radio-can behind his back while his left is snapping its fingers. The palette of colors used floats on his upper right. The upper left has a transparent background a deep purple shadow, the upper left has a lagoon green background and a greyish blue shadow and the last one has a deep but bright pink background and a pale and greyish green shadow]

UQuiz Roundup
Hey everybody! I was tagged by @nightbloodraelle, @marivenah, @fourlittleseedlings, @captastra, @sstewyhosseini, and @direwombat to take these uquizes, here and here.
Gonna send some no pressure tags to @jinfromyarikawa, @baldurrs, @clicheantagonist, @nightwingshero, @deputy-morgan-malone, @astorythatwritesitself, @derelictheretic, @strangefable and anyone else who wants to do this.
Blue Murphy
Fairy
You are a fairy! Depending on the type, fairies come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Above all, they resemble the typical human physique. Fairies are beautiful, energetic, magical creatures. They have unlimited abilities, depending on the type they are. Some can make flowers bloom, others might be able to talk to animals and become friendly with them. To conclude, fairies will do whatever they can to make their peers happy. If you have a fairy friend, you're in luck! Don't take them for granted. But also remember to not be too oblivious! Some fairies can be tricksters!
desperate narrator
this story is a cycle, and you're spinning around it like a hamster in a ball being tormented by a cat. you know how this story ends. after all, you've told it a thousand times. but you try to change it every time. you love the people in this story more than anything. so watching them fall victim to the narrative breaks you in a way you can't begin to describe. but all you can do is tell the story── their story── with tears in your eyes. you're prone to anxiety and feelings of helplessness. you have so much love in your heart, and for once you wish it would change something. it didn't. it doesn't. it won't. but you refuse to stop telling the story. and you refuse to stop loving the people in it. in this way, no one is stronger than you. you just wish being strong hurt less.
Commander Rooney Shepard
Witch
You are a witch! With witchcraft and magic, witches have the ability to cast spells with power that cannot be humanely comprehended. The spells can be in any form, whether it's words, a formula, or even a ritual practice. Besides this, witches are always curious, always eager to learn something new, whether it's about themselves or about the universe. They may not be the biggest fan of crowds, or getting together with handfuls of people, but they are drawn mentally, emotionally, and spiritually towards animals and nature, and aspire to uncover the life hidden beneath it. Though, as much as they seem to be cautious of their peers, they will do whatever it takes to protect those they love and those they care about. And, dare I say, they are big risk-takers!
bold protagonist
you're the star of the show, baby! and boy does that come with a lot of emotional turmoil. you have a seemingly endless supply of determination. whether you have a lot of goals, or one big one, you're constantly working towards it. you're pretty restless, and struggle with imposter syndrome and generally feeling like you should be doing more. your insecurity might not be immediately obvious to others, however, as you come across as very strong and bold. vulnerability is not your strong suit, and that's likely to be your downfall. if only you had just let people in, and asked for help... well, maybe this was always gonna be a tragedy.
Hunter Delaney
Vampire
You are a vampire! Vampires are undead creatures that feed on the vital essence of the living. Since they can't really consume humane foods, they survive by feeding on the blood of human beings instead. Besides this, vampires are mysterious, elegant, intimidating creatures. They are usually quiet, concealed, and choose to isolate themselves when stranded with large groups of people... and like so, they enjoy staying indoors instead of exploring the outside world. However, as gloomy as they seem, vampires are loyal creatures that will do whatever it takes to protect those they love from either themselves or other supernatural creatures.

Riley Callahan
Kitsune
You are a Kitsune! Magical, immortal, and absolutely adorable, a Kitsune is a legendary fox, originated in Japan, but inspired by Chinese folktales. Kitsunes are incredibly wise, but can be incredibly dangerous as well. They specialize in the art of illusion and imagination, and can be considered very creative, stunning creatures. I mean, who doesn't love foxes?
sweet supporting character
i wanna be your grandma so bad, please let me pinch your face and knit you a sweater. you're most likely the best friend of the protagonist, and there's some possible overlap between you and the narrator. you're sweet and try very hard to be selfless. you watch the ones you love descend into darkness, and make every effort to help them through it all. it's not enough. you keep trying to make it enough. you provide comic relief, a listening ear, a hug, advice── any method of support you can think of. your own personal tragedy isn't documented. sometimes you wish it was, even though you're the one who ensures it is not. you want people to care for you the way you do for others. but you refuse to ask for it, so you wait for others to read between the lines. they usually don't. at least you're the one who gets to survive the tragedy. no matter how many times you beg to trade places, it is always you at the end, sitting at someone else's grave.
Emerson Wright
Vampire
You are a vampire! Vampires are undead creatures that feed on the vital essence of the living. Since they can't really consume humane foods, they survive by feeding on the blood of human beings instead. Besides this, vampires are mysterious, elegant, intimidating creatures. However, as gloomy as they seem, vampires are loyal creatures that will do whatever it takes to protect those they love from either themselves or other supernatural creatures.
misunderstood villain
prepare for an onslaught of both the most dehumanizing and hateful takes, and flood of thirst comments. you are chronically misunderstood. whether or not you're actually evil is debatable. you may be acting out for revenge, to defend someone you love, or even just to protect yourself. you're a pretty jaded person. you don't trust or even really like most people. maybe you did at one point. but that part of you is gone, and you don't go a single day without grieving it. you think a lot about what your life could have been. you're stuck in the past. you're angry and maybe you don't even want to be, but this is the only way you can see to survive. you're open, but less in a trusting way and more like a wound. you don't like to let people see you, but the hurt spills out of you before you can stop it. you're impulsive, even as you try hard to plan and prepare. maybe someday your side of the story will finally be heard. until then, you can convince yourself that being hated is safer anyway.

I couldnt find the pic, but i have it written out so here-
Tears for Fears interview No 1 1985. Interview is typed out below!
Tears for Fears play Mr & Mr
Remember the rules? That’s right, one group member is grilled in private about the personal habits of the other. Afterwards his answers are checked by telling them to his partner. Points scored depend on how near the mark they are. Points are lost for group splits or fist fights…
What’s Roland’s greatest fear?
Curt: “Nuclear war and flying – but flying first and foremost. He’s calmed down a lot now but he used to hate it. Once we had to fly from Birmingham in a light aircraft with only eight seats and we just got thrown everywhere. Roland grabbed the back of my seat and swore all the way home.”
Roland’s answer: “Flying, yes, that was an easy one for you.”
Does Roland enjoy winding people up?
Curt: “Oh yes, it was funny, we met the people at our American record company recently and because they hadn’t bothered to do any research on us, none of them knew our names. I mean, really, we’re their number one act and they don’t know who’s Curt and who’s Roland! So when they threw a party for us I was so pissed off that I didn’t go, but Roland went along and introduced himself as Curt. So there was this poor record company exec introducing Roland to all these journalists and radio people as Curt Smith – I thought that was hysterical!”
Roland’s answer: “Oh yeah, I did a great wind-up in Boston recently when a guy from our American company had the cheek to say to me, “I’d like to introduce you to some people – what did you say your name was again?” So I said I was Curt and at the end of the day I told him who I really was”
What’s Roland’s most prized possession?
Curt: “I’d say his wife Caroline, but she’s not really a possession. Could be his special edition Fender Strat guitar that he uses every night, or his cat, or his camera. One of those!”
Roland’s answer: “Er – this quiz is really hard isn’t it? Well one answer would be my wife…”
Curt: “One of my answers was your wife. A point!”
Roland: “And one would be my Strat.”
Curt: “Yes, the Strat, got that one as well.”
Roland: “And one would definitely be my camera.”
Curt: “Three points!”
No 1: “Nice try – but that’s still only one point.”
What does Roland like most about being famous?
Curt (no hesitation here): THE MONEY! You see, Roland doesn’t particularly like being famous at all, but there is that one advantage. He’ll probably lie when he gives his answer though.”
Roland: “What do I like about being famous? I think it’s probably the money!”
What’s Roland’s most annoying habit?
Curt (again without hesitation): “He’s a noisy eater, but he’ll never admit to that. The bad habit he will admit to is looking at himself in mirrors – if you’re talking to him and suddenly he looks over your shoulder and starts tidying his hair – you know there’s a mirror behind you.”
Roland’s answer: “I bet I know what Curt said about me – he said I eat with my mouth open didn’t he?”
Curt: “Yeah, and there’s another answer Roland, go on, you know what it is!”
Roland (innocently): “Could it be looking at myself in the mirror?”
Who’s Roland’s all-time hero?
Curt: “Good question – could be Paul Simon, could be David Byrne or the actress Jessica Lange.”
Roland’s answer: “John Lennon”
Curt: “Oh I didn’t know that – one point down”
When Roland fell in love with his wife Caroline, was he sloppy or cool?
Curt: “He was just 13 when he met Caroline and he was so nervous on his first date that he got really drunk and spent the whole afternoon throwing up in the toilet. I remember he got drunk before he met her and had to stagger down the road to meet her. Caroline ended up sitting with him while he threw up and now they’re married – she’s got a warped sense of humour.!”
Roland’s answer: “I was nervous, wasn’t I?”
Curt: “You were pissed!”
Roland: “I was very, very nervous and I was also unconscious for about three hours!”
Can you remember the date of Roland’s wedding anniversary?
Curt: “I think…I believe…it’s September the something. He got married in a registry office but I had a big do.”
Roland’s answer: “September the 10th”
Curt: “I didn’t know exactly when it was but I got the month right”
Of all the countries he’s visited which is Roland’s favourite?
Curt: “I’d say France because his dad’s French and so he can speak the language. Also there’s good food, good cheese and good wine.”
Roland’s answer: “France.”
What’s been Roland’s most embarrassing moment on stage?
Curt: “He hasn’t had one that I can think of, but the most embarrassing thing for both of us is looking back on all the old TV appearances we’ve done – just the way we were then!”
Roland’s answer: “I can’t think of any.”
Curt: “Nor could I, so I said that looking back on our old image was embarrassing.”
Roland: Yes, that’s true, you deserve a point there. We looked so young and pathetically fragile!”
What’s Curt’s greatest fear?
Roland: “Mmmm, that’s an easy one for Curt to answer about me but he doesn’t seem to get scared about anything. He doesn’t realize when he’s in a dangerous situation. I mean, he never gets scared about flying which is pathetic!”
Curt’s answer: “Fear?!!”
Roland: “You see what I mean!”
Curt: “No, I don’t have any fears.”
Can you remember what you and Curt talked about the first time you ever met?
Roland: “Yeah, I was 13 and I went around to his house and he told me he wasn’t allowed out because he’d been in a fight the day before.”
Curt’s answer: “Er!” (looks totally blank)
Roland: “It was one specific subject but I’m not allowed to help you.”
Curt: “Oh yes, we talked about me not being allowed to go out because I’d been involved in a fight.”
Of all his pet cats, does Curt have a favourite and if so which one?
Roland: “He probably does have a favourite and I’d say it’s his first one. Treasure, a completely black half Siamese cat.”
Curt’s answer: “Treasure.”
If Curt ruled the world for a day, what’s the first thing he’d do?
Roland: “Ah, now I know the answer to this one because he’s been asked it before – and he said he wouldn’t accept the responsibility in the first place.”
Curt’s answer: “I bet Roland said I’d change everyone to working class.”
Roland: “I didn’t. I said you wouldn’t do it.”
Curt: “Well you were right then, weren’t you?”
Is Curt a sulker or a shouter when he’s in a mood?
Roland: “He’s a sulker, he’ll go off in a corner somewhere and sulk for hours. I’m the one that shouts.”
Curt’s answer: “I sulk for ages.”
Does Curt ever take a long time to get ready when he’s going out?
Roland: “No, he’s pretty quick. Just clothes on and that’s it. I probably take a bit longer because I wear a little eye make-up.”
Curt’s answer: “I’m always quick.”
When Curt first fell in love with his wife Lynn, was he sloppy or cool?
Roland: “He wasn’t sloppy, he just fell into it very easily and soon moved in with her.”
Curt’s answer: “I’m normally nervous but when I first met Lynn she introduced herself to me and I was sorta taken over really!”
Roland: “I said you fell into it easily.”
Curt: “Yes, that’s a fair comment, give him a point.”
Can you remember the date of Curt’s wedding anniversary?
Roland: “Well it’s in December (much deep thinking for a while here). I’d say it’s December 18th.”
Curt’s answer: “December 18th.”
Roland (ecstatic): I remembered, I remembered!”
What’s Curt’s most annoying habit?
Roland (laughing more and more as he thinks about the answer): “When he’s had a few drinks he keeps repeating himself. He’ll repeat the same sentence to you over and over again, and you go “Yeah Curt, right Curt, really Curt!””
Curt’s answer: “I repeat myself a lot, don’t I?”
Roland (so excited he starts drumming with his hands on the table in triumph): “HAH! So you know you do it!”
Curt: “Of course I know I do it. While I’m repeating myself you stand there and go mmm, mmm, mmm, and look incredibly bored!”
What’s Curt’s favourite television programme?
Roland: “Oh that’s really easy, it’s The Young Ones.”
Curt’s answer: “Oh that’s obvious, it’s The Young Ones.”
And the winner is:
Curt scores 8 and a half points and Roland scores a perfect 10 out of 10
Roland: “I did extremely well, didn’t I?”
Curt: “I think we both did pretty well, in fact, maybe we should get married!”

OK we're done talking about spoilers now. Mad Rat Dead is fun because it's in the category of "things that, despite giving little to no indication on the cover that a specific subject is even present, handled it significantly better than a piece of media that specifically markets itself on Handling That One Subject". Despite not really marketing itself on the inevitability of death and figuring out how to live a life that you're happy to die with, it still works a damn good story on those terms, and you probably wouldn't guess just how well it works with those themes by initial presentation. Also, the soundtrack slaps.
#we speak#MRD and Spiritfarer are a lot more adjacent to each other theme-wise than you would really guess from the covers#also it stands out to us because we have another indie game that specifically marketed itself as being About Death And Death Positivity#and then fell flat on its face in the presentation and handling of those themes to the point that the whole game felt flat#MRD handling the same general themes with both more skill and more. tact? subtlety? really just sort of hammered it home#we've got stronger negativity bias than average so it Does help with memorability to be able to compare with something that sucks#MRD is very bold and up-front with its themes and it uses a relatively simple narrative structure to hammer things home#it doesn't get entirely into the complexities because that's not the sort of story it is#it's simple and snappy and confident with its premise and its writing#it knows what it's about and it doesn't see the point in beating about the bush#you don't come to MRD for an extended conversation you come to MRD for a fun story that is incredibly unapologetic about being itself#it is what it is. it wouldn't really fit in any other form. and being exactly itself is all that can really be asked of it#if you're looking for extended story and discussion and like. exploring this sort of inevitable death and closure in different forms#then spiritfarer is definitely the way to go#which is another game we will very much recommend#though there are parts of MRD that would be fun to explore they wouldn't fit with the story told#the lack of addressing them is not a flaw but merely a fact of what is being told#and exploring them extracanonically is merely giving the chance to tell a different story

Have been watching too much House & Garden home tour videos, and honestly I want to see more normal people’s houses. Which is not to say that I want to see boring houses, I do think there should be an artistic element, but just a little further down the social scale (and posh bits of London and the Cotswolds are just banned- as beautiful as they are, it’s overdone).
Because people who aren’t the daughters of people listed in Debrett’s (but went to art school so they’re cool apparently) do have ideas and their own interests and quirks! And I would like to see it even if their style isn’t really something I would like- I’d rather see lots of different ordinary people’s houses and hear what they take pride in rather than five houses that I love but were put together really easily by the kind of people who were born to a long line of gentleman farmers in the west country (and don’t get me started on how their farmhouses don’t even feel like real farmhouses, honestly it’s like the freaking Archers and not like any farm I’ve ever stepped on). Even if their budget doesn’t stretch to doing everything they want, so they often either feel pressure to buy everything at once from a cheap furniture store and live with a rather boring space that looks like everyone else’s (but with one or two special things) because they have kids and jobs, or if they don’t have to do it all at once they have maybe 4 items of furniture and a lot of empty space that they hope to fill as they go through life.
Better yet, give the posh designers the same budget, the same time constraints (kids, jobs, lack of efficient cleaning knowledge), and no contacts in the interior decor world and ask them to talk you through a twenty year old family home which has early noughties furniture, but brand new tv, and a severe case of Crumbs Everywhere.
I just want to hear Sophia Poshington-Becket in her Cheltenham Ladies College accent uttering sentences like, “You know, the chairs were a gift when we bought our first house just after we were married, my husband’s parents were really kind and bought us some rather pricey Cotswold Company windsor chairs and, you know, it took us a while but we did finally find a really nice table to match. And this is our Tesco value green plastic pedal bin, we bought this in 2004 when we first moved in and, you know, the kitchen was quite a blank canvas so we really wanted to bring our love of green into the space. Yes, the tea stains streaking down the front ARE authentic- I think mostly Tetley but we did splurge on a box of Yorkshire yesterday, you know, so that might be the slightly darker tinge. It’s just such a beloved family piece, you know, and really brings a sense of whimsy and joy to the house.”
#I say this by the way as someone who is aware of their own privilege but honestly there is nothing like these home tour videos#To make you realise that when you were feeling guilty over buying one nice chair they were out there getting £400 a yard wallpaper#And then to add insult to injury they'll say something like 'You  know it is possible to do a room like this on a budget'#YES! If you have loads of time and loads of contacts in that world! And if you don't have to worry about cleaning it!#It's also really easy to have a beautiful little country cottage when you've never had to worry about being on the dole#To be fair my dad did tell me I had expensive tastes because I wanted Warbuton's English muffins instead of tesco value crumpets#So obviously I'm part of the problem#Honestly these people are probably very nice but it just is a totally different world#Frankly I don't think people should just buy whatever shops tell them to either and it is nice to have your own style#But realistically life doesn't work out like that and people shouldn't feel like they've failed because they worked with what they had#or if they didn't actually even have time to work with what they had because other things happened in life#Earth & Stone#I do enjoy these home tours but they are very very strange#I'd enjoy some ordinary stuff but a lot of more normal home videos are about the current trends rather than the choices made#And though I don't have a tv license a lot of the tv programmes about homes are about flipping or buying houses#Rather than a slow walk-through rooms and a discussion of beloved family objects and bold choices

More GA au thoughts 😅
But I was watching our staff baby(just about the cutest thing ever my word) and I couldn’t help but think about Jack watching over baby Mac. like babies(in my personal opinion) inspire such protectiveness because they literally can’t defend themselves. And Jack Freaking Dalton is a guardian and protector to his core.
I mean, think about it. Baby Mac laying in his crib. Alone for hours. Maybe he’s got a dirty diaper and he’s crying softly. Maybe he’s hungry. Maybe he’s learn(even at a few months old) that no one is coming. And he looks up to see Jack leaning over him. And he just grins up at him. Ughhhh
This is just a rant about babies and Jack and Mac and how this is the ultimate state of vulnerability and Jack is still there and Jack is watching out and Jack cares when no one else does.
Does he change Mac? Does he get him a bottle? Does he cover him up with blankets? Does he hum the lullaby he heard from a different parent an age ago? Idk but it’s so much fun to think about 🥺
hehehe so we have this snippet from Chapter Eleven of Upon taking lethal damage, enter resurrection,
“I wasn’t just there in the shadows, Mac,” Jack replies. “That’s what I’m trying to tell you. For as long as I was able, knowing that when you grew up you’d never be able to remember it, I was there with you. You used to lay there in a crib and just cry.”
Even with the street lamps, Mac can barely see Jack’s face in the moonlight. “You expect me to believe that?”
“But you weren’t like other babies. You never ever cried loudly. Never screeched. And unless you were making a racket, your parents would never check on you during the day.”
Mac’s throat feels tight. “That’s not true.”
“You’d lay there, for hours at a time, tears silently falling from your face. You were uncomfortable, I could tell that, but you’d never make any noise. So I’d stand there with you, knowing that you wouldn’t remember, and that your parents wouldn’t ever go upstairs and accidentally see me.”
which is all that Mac really knows (at the end of part I Mac has begun to understand that the nice warm and soft feeling is from jack, but doesn't know it's from his wings). What he doesn't know is that it was times like these that kind of made Jack more... human? Gave him all of those human emotions and feelings of needing to protect someone who can't protect themselves.
Jack has definitely hummed and sang songs to Mac (I'll paste a part of one of the Jack drabbles below), he'd cover smol Mac with his wings to keep him warm and safe, and just. UGH the feelings you are making me feel!!!
It isn’t strictly life-saving, but Jack still reaches out. Barely touches the baby’s fist with his first finger, pausing when he uncurls those little fingers and wraps them around Jack’s offered appendage. The entire fist barely reaches up two knuckles, but the grip is stronger than Jack was expecting.
Slowly, and far too quiet for anyone else in the house to hear, Jack begins to hum.
Some song that he heard a million times because Ellen had a cassette tape she listened to every day when she drove to work, and this song was the second track on side one. Jack’s heard it at least twice every day for months.
The song itself doesn’t mean anything to the baby, Jack knows that much, but maybe it’s the soft humming that calms him down. Whatever the case may be, the squirming stops, and his other hand slowly uncurls until it’s back to five small fingers attached to an open palm.
Though the one holding onto Jack’s finger stays tight.
When he falls back asleep, Jack will take his finger back. Disappear back to a place where humans can’t see him. Can’t comprehend him.
