I cannot stand the way that stand-up comedians have managed to convince themselves that they're public intellectuals in some way, like they're legitimate thought leaders. They will point and gesture and cry profound tears at George Carlin as the ultimate example of comedy being about being edgy and pushing boundaries and being controversial, but these podcasters don't tell any fucking jokes. They just talk at you, or invite some other oaf to talk at you and wax poetic and jerk off about how important they are. Should they actually make a joke, and it's not immediately met with the laughs these performers are owed, they immediately revert to some combination of the woke mob not being able to handle their cutting edge material and how comedians are just simple clowns that you should point and laugh at, it's just a joke, there's no need to think so deeply about a funny joke.
Like, it's so insane to me that Dave Chappelle can have an entire special where, over the course of that entire hour plus runtime, he will tell you like five jokes. The rest of that time will be a response to a response to his response to a response to his most recent controversy. The worst part is that Dave Chappelle is probably the best among this group! All five of those jokes will most likely be very funny, and when he's not rambling about things he doesn't know anything about, like trans people, he's actually a pretty engaging speaker. He's well-spoken, and can offer some interesting perspectives, only provided he feels the need to speak on something he knows literally anything about at all, and he doesn't have a fuckin' podcast.
The rest of them are usually so much worse, there is nothing I loathe more than the dipshit podcaster who views himself this way. Just, legitimately the dumbest person you can possibly imagine who views himself as a leader in free thought and intellectualism because they continuously platform incendiary conservative political guests. Donald Trump, Gavin McInnes, Candice Owens, Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, just whatever series of horrible book-learned ghouls these people can invite to sap an audience from their platform. Can you imagine a world where Joe Rogan is a legitimate political force because thousands of people tune in to watch Jordan Peterson scratch the alphabet into the walls of his enclosure? Where a metrosexual homophobe can just, be racist on stage at a campaign event and call it a bit? One of these guys built a career off of talking to comedians, and the other built theirs off of being needlessly cruel in judging the comedy of others, but neither of them are funny. Joe Rogan doesn't tell any fucking jokes, Joe Rogan is funny in the way a child falling down is funny. He's silly, and you laugh at him because he's goofy and doesn't actually know any better, but he doesn't tell any jokes. Joe Rogan is the joke. Yet still, him and the other guy, and dozens of other middling and/or ageing comedian will consider themselves among the all time greats of comedy, declared only by themselves and their most frequent podcast guests, because they can score an endless stream of interviews with neo-nazis and fascists to come talk to them. They can smile and nod and clap their hands while they're informed, and their inflated audience of manosphere types and crypto geeks are informed, about the Great Replacement theory. Or maybe it's because they can talk at length about why they don't perform at college campuses anymore, or why trans people are annoying on the internet, or how you just aren't allowed to say anything anymore. But it's not because they tell any jokes.
I would legitimately watch Bert Kreischer's stool-humping/pant-shitting routine 30 times over any of these worthless hack comedians, because he's at least attempting to tell jokes. Comedians need to tell more fucking jokes.

First Time Investing in Crypto: Tips for New Traders on the Digital Coin Market
This has changed the financial landscape for good; it is the first time in history that investors have a share of this type since cryptocurrency entered the market. But then again, getting into the crypto market to begin with can be incredibly intimidating for a novice. This includes some key tips that you must know for making trade-offs more intelligent and how to invest in cryptocurrencies.
1. Understand the Basics
Tumblr media
Understand the basic principles of what Cryptocurrency is, how it works before you invest. If you're unfamiliar, cryptocurrencies are basically decentralized systems, operating with a peer-to-peer framework, that let users do all sorts of things like get rewards for paying on time or using an app. Because they are not organically produced like typical tender, these financial tools are meant to be circulated in a decentralized way via blockchain networks. Educate yourself onwards like blockchain, altcoins, wallets and exchanges.
2. Do Your Research
The value of cryptocurrencies is influenced by a number of factors, and this makes it an extremely volatile market. Learn about various cryptocurrencies and how they are used. Tools like CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko show trends, rankings other handy information regarding ranging and past data. Follow us on Twitter for more news and updates on the Bitcoin space.
3. Diversify Your Portfolio
Tumblr media
Investors apply diversification in their investment strategies. Diversify by investing in multiple cryptocurrencies I mean, everyone knows Bitcoin and Ethereum — why not looking a little bit further down the line at some promising altcoins with real fundamentals. A healthy mix of investments can ensure you have a little exposure to any type of gain or loss that may arise.
4. Only Invest What You Can Afford to Lose
The world of crypto is such that even the prices can and do tend to rise or crash in a jiffy, thanks to high volatility. Gamble only with money you can afford to lose without impacting your finances. Never borrow to invest in crypto or use your emergency savings for crypto investing. This approach ensures that you still are able to stay financially safe in case there's a downtrend.
5. Choose a Reliable Exchange
Tumblr media
It is important to be sure that you deal with reliable cryptocurrency exchanges for safe trading. Search for exchanges with strong security protocols, a simple UI, and broad coin support. Some of the most trusted exchanges that people have been using include Binance, Coinbase and Kraken. Are they regulated and insured for digital assets.
6. Secure Your Investments
In the world of crypto, security is vital. Keep your cryptocurrencies on hardware wallets or in cold storage solutions; simply turn on 2FA in your exchange accounts and do not publish or disclose the private keys. Keep your software up to date and watch out for phishing attacks and malware.
7. Stay Informed and Adapt
Tumblr media
As we know the crypto market is alive and never takes a nap. Learn from the market, regulatory and tech changes. Engage in some of the crypto community forums on platforms like Reddit, Twitter and Telegram to get the benefits of inside knowledge from other investors. Change your investment plan based on new informational and market circumstances
8. Have a Long-Term Perspective
Although there is money in short-term trading, it often requires quite a bit of time and skill to excel what you do. Long term investment strategy If you are beginner, Long term is the best way for you to invest your money from beginning. Look at the long term growth potential of cryptocurrencies instead of trying to make a quick buck. I read many books and listend to a lot of podcasts about the stock market, nearly all these sources agreed that patience and discipline was key to becoming a successful long-term investor.
9. Seek Professional Advice
Tumblr media
If you are uncertain about the investments, you can get help from financial advisors or even some crypto experts. They can offer some personalized advice, depending on your financial goals and comfort with risk. Expert help will make it easier for you to manage the particularly volatile world of crypto.
Conclusion
Investing in cryptocurrency can also be a lucrative endeavor as long the trader is well-versed when it comes to his or her craft. These basic principles, combined with extensive research, establishing a diversified portfolio, and security first will put you in good stead on your crypto investment journey. The key is to stay informed, adapt and think long-term in order for you to succeed.

The Power of Doing Your Own Research (DYOR) in the World of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies
Tumblr media
In today's digital age, information is more accessible than ever before. With a few clicks, you can find countless articles, videos, and social media posts about almost any topic. This is especially true for Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market. While this abundance of information can be empowering, it also comes with the risk of misinformation and hype-driven narratives. This is why it’s crucial to emphasize the importance of doing your own research (DYOR) before making any financial decisions.
The Cryptocurrency Information Overload
The cryptocurrency space is notoriously fast-paced and filled with complex jargon. From blockchain technology to decentralized finance (DeFi), understanding the basics can be overwhelming. Moreover, the crypto market is often subject to wild speculation and hype, leading to sensational headlines and exaggerated claims. While some sources provide valuable insights, others might be misleading or outright false. In this environment, DYOR becomes not just a recommendation but a necessity.
Why DYOR Matters
Understanding the Fundamentals: When you conduct your own research, you gain a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This includes learning about the technology, the problem it aims to solve, its potential applications, and the risks involved. A solid grasp of these basics will help you make informed decisions and avoid falling for scams or overhyped projects.
Avoiding Hype and FOMO: The fear of missing out (FOMO) is a powerful force in the crypto market. It can drive individuals to make impulsive decisions based on hype rather than sound analysis. By doing your own research, you can evaluate the true potential of a project or investment, rather than relying on the opinions of others. This disciplined approach helps you avoid the pitfalls of hype-driven investments.
Building Confidence: Investing in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies can be a volatile journey. Conducting your own research instills confidence in your decisions. When you understand why you are investing in a particular asset, you are more likely to stay committed to your investment strategy, even during market downturns.
Identifying Opportunities: The crypto market is filled with opportunities, but not all of them are immediately obvious. Through thorough research, you can identify promising projects and investment opportunities that others might overlook. This proactive approach can lead to more profitable outcomes.
How to Do Your Own Research
Diverse Sources: Don’t rely on a single source of information. Read articles, watch videos, listen to podcasts, and follow reputable figures in the crypto space. Cross-referencing information from multiple sources helps ensure accuracy and provides a well-rounded perspective.
Official Documentation: Always review official documents such as whitepapers, technical papers, and project websites. These sources offer detailed insights into a project's vision, technology, and roadmap.
Community Engagement: Engage with the community through forums, social media, and discussion groups. Platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and Telegram host vibrant discussions where you can ask questions and get diverse viewpoints. Be cautious, however, as not all advice you encounter will be accurate or trustworthy.
Critical Thinking: Approach every piece of information with a critical mindset. Question the credibility of the source, the validity of the claims, and the underlying motivations. This analytical approach helps you separate valuable insights from noise.
Stay Updated: The crypto space evolves rapidly. Continuously updating your knowledge helps you stay informed about new developments, regulatory changes, and market trends.
Conclusion
In the dynamic world of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, doing your own research is not just a best practice—it’s an essential skill. By taking the time to educate yourself, you empower yourself to make informed, confident, and rational investment decisions. Remember, the journey to financial freedom through Bitcoin starts with knowledge and understanding. So, embrace the DYOR mindset and take control of your financial future.

What do the billionaires and experts forecast for Bitcoin price in 2024 and beyond? Dive into the predictions that might shape the crypto space in the coming years. As we approach the much-anticipated Bitcoin (BTC) halving next year, a time when the crypto market tends to make its best impression of a roller coaster, some well-known figures are offering their insights on where the Bitcoin price may be headed in the coming years. These forecasts originate from individuals who appear confident in their ability to predict financial trends. Figures such as Cathie Wood, Robert Kiyosaki, and other experienced cryptocurrency experts openly express their often unconventional visions for the future of digital currencies. So, let’s unwind the most bizarre Bitcoin forecasts for 2024 and beyond. Cathie Wood: $1 million by 2030 Cathie Wood and her team at ARK Invest are making waves with some eye-catching forecasts. According to Cathie, Bitcoin might be gearing up for a significant leap, possibly reaching a staggering $1 million by 2030. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kQLpTO2vKE[/embed] This isn’t a number picked from thin air. Despite a rollercoaster of a year in 2022, ARK’s recent “Big Ideas” report maintains that Bitcoin is still a sturdy player in the game. To support these bold claims, ARK highlights Bitcoin’s robust network fundamentals and the growing number of long-term holders. It’s worth noting that Cathie has been making price predictions for some time now. In 2021, she anticipated Bitcoin hitting $500,000 by 2026. As we approach 2024, many are eagerly awaiting to see how her ambitious forecast unfolds. Mike Novogratz: no longer $500,000 Meanwhile, Mike Novogratz, the CEO of Galaxy Digital, has had a change of perspective. Initially, Novogratz was quite optimistic, picturing Bitcoin skyrocketing to a whopping $500,000 by 2027. However, it seems the shifting sands of the crypto market and an assertive stance from the Federal Reserve (FR) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have made him revisit his stance.  [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mw00fyl15I[/embed] The enthusiastic $500,000 forecast has been toned down somewhat, with Novogratz acknowledging the significant hurdles Bitcoin faces in reaching that golden mark within his initial time frame. He highlighted the Federal Reserve’s aggressive measures to combat inflation as a major factor in the recent decline in Bitcoin’s value. The cryptocurrency went from reaching a high of $69,000 in November 2021 to below $16,000 in November 2022, partly due to FTX’s issues. Despite the “crypto winter”, Novogratz maintains a resilient spirit, hinting at brighter days ahead. He believes the industry will learn from its current tribulations, brushing off the setbacks and ultimately soaring to new heights.  Tim Draper: $250,000 in April 2024 Venture capitalist Tim Draper, a seasoned figure in the crypto space, remains optimistic about Bitcoin’s future. In a recent On The Ledger podcast chat, he reiterated his bold stance that Bitcoin would touch the $250,000 mark.  [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i_nwxbDkL8[/embed] Draper hoped to see this milestone by June of 2023, but he concedes that this timeline might stretch further. Yet, with an enthusiastic tone, he hinted that this pivotal moment might coincide with the approaching “halvening” event in April 2024. While he does entertain the notion of potential hurdles, Draper doesn’t envision a future where Bitcoin is nudged completely off the stage. Rather, he envisages a resilient trajectory for cryptocurrencies, seemingly unthreatened by the conventional financial institutions and fiat currencies, which he predicts are unlikely to dampen the crypto momentum. Tom Lee: up to $180,000 in 2024 In August 2023, Fundstrat’s Tom Lee showcased an optimistic outlook for Bitcoin in 2024, particularly keeping an eye on the potential approval of the first-ever US spot Bitcoin ETF.  This move, Lee predicts, could
catapult Bitcoin to unprecedented heights, possibly scaling beyond the previous peak of $69,000 to even hover around the substantial marks of $150,000 to $180,000. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir8jYyrBY5s[/embed] He explained that this bullish projection is primarily based on the anticipated surge in demand surpassing the daily Bitcoin supply once the spot Bitcoin gets a green light. This event might significantly influence the “clearing price”, according to Lee. Moreover, Lee foresees bright prospects for the cryptocurrency, even without the ETF approval, attributing positivity to the impending Bitcoin halving event slated for next year.  Lee emphasized that this halving event alone could elevate Bitcoin’s value considerably, although a six-figure leap seems more plausible with the regulatory nod for the US spot ETF.  Pantera Capital: $148,000 after halving Pantera Capital, a leading crypto asset management firm, anticipates a considerable surge in Bitcoin’s value, nearing a staggering $148,000 in its forthcoming four-year halving cycle, a sentiment echoed in their recent “Blockchain Letter“. The firm’s analysis highlights Bitcoin’s historical trends of experiencing cycle bottoms and peaks in roughly equal intervals surrounding each halving event.  It illustrates a pattern where Bitcoin generally bottoms out 477 days before the halving, escalating steadily into it and then reaching new heights afterward, with an average span of 480 days from the halving to the peak of the next bullish cycle. In light of this pattern, Pantera Capital posits that the 2022 bear market possibly delineated the bottom of the current Bitcoin price cycle. Looking forward, they project that by the next halving in April 2024, Bitcoin could command a value of around $35,000. Furthermore, the ensuing 480 days post-halving could propel Bitcoin not just to a new pinnacle but potentially to a towering value of around $148,000 by July 2025.  This projection is grounded on the anticipated reduction in new Bitcoin supply, expected to halve, potentially fueling a significant price upswing in line with historical patterns. Robert Kiyosaki: $100,000 Author and entrepreneur Robert Kiyosaki, famed for his book “Rich Dad Poor Dad, continues to staunchly advocate for the inclusion of precious metals and Bitcoin in investment portfolios as a hedge against the potential economic instability instigated by governmental maneuvers.  Kiyosaki’s enthusiasm extends fervently to gold and Bitcoin, as he considers them robust options to steer through turbulent economic phases.  He anticipates a sharp surge in the prices of gold and silver in the event of a crash in the stock and bond markets. Simultaneously, amid escalating global economic tensions, Kiyosaki foresees Bitcoin touching the landmark value of $100,000. BITCOIN to $100k. Saying for years gold&silver GOD’S money. BITCOIN peoples $. Bad news IF stock & bond market crash gold&silver skyrocket. WORSE NEWS IF world economy crashes BC $1 million Gold $ 75K silver to $60k. SAVERS of FAKE US $ F’d. DEBT too high. Mom, Pop & kids in…— Robert Kiyosaki (@theRealKiyosaki) August 14, 2023 During his conversation with Daniela Cambone, Kiyosaki didn’t hold back on voicing his skepticism towards the federal government, the Treasury, the Fed, and Wall Street, candidly acknowledging his lack of trust in these entities.  He advises like-minded individuals to exercise caution, recommending a shift away from saving in dollars and evading bonds as part of a prudent financial strategy. Navigating crypto price predictions As we steer through the stormy seas of cryptocurrency predictions, let’s not forget that our fortune tellers have a hefty stake in the game. A blooming Bitcoin garden would mean a golden harvest season for them. So, while their forecasts might tickle your investment bones, do wear your skeptical glasses and sprinkle a generous dose of salt over those predictions. After all, taking small, measured steps is always safer than sprinting blindly in a race filled with unexpected twists and turns.
As you navigate this exciting yet unpredictable market, let common sense and caution be your guiding stars, and never invest more than you can afford to lose. Source

Blockchains, smart contracts, and proof of work are all examples of cryptocurrencies. There are many unusual phrases and original ideas in the modern financial sector. The best way to learn about the capabilities of crypto and the future of digital finance is to listen to an expert. Many of the leading digital money innovators in the world give speeches. With a background in development, Armstrong even held a position at Airbnb early on, where he concentrated on preventing fraud.
8. Brad Garlinghouse
Brad Garlinghouse invented a coin, and not just any coin, one of the most widely used coins. Consumers weren't the target audience for ripple. Its goal was to make it easier for businesses and banks to transmit and receive money internationally using blockchain technology. Garlinghouse has a strong background in the IT sector and joined Ripple.
9. Jihan Wu
Jihan Wu, a graduate of Beijing University and the founder of Bitmain, is currently thought to be worth close to $2 billion. Wu quit Bitmain in November 2018 while being pursued by numerous lawsuits. Since then, Wu has launched Matrix, a new over-the-counter cryptocurrency service.

Cryptocurrency can be intimidating.
Even to people with a good understanding of the financial markets or technology, wrapping their heads around blockchain can be challenging.
I sat down on the latest episode of the CoinJournal podcast with someone who can be described as a “crypto academic”,  who also aims to bridge that gap for people.
Omid Malekan lectures at Columbia University, and has also written several books, the latest of which has just been released, called “Re-Architecting Trust: The Curse of History and the Crypto Cure for Money, Markets, and Platforms”. We sat down for a discussion that meandered around a whole bunch of topics, but the theme was what Omid tries to do: educate people about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, which is more challenging than it sounds.
There is a lot of noise in this space, something Omid freely admits, and crypto is far from perfect. Yet if you look in the right place and have a bit of faith, this is an industry that can do so much good. We chatted about the ups and downs, the damage of the bear market reputation-wise to crypto, the impact of regulation, the potential for crypto to go good in the developing world.
We also looked at some of the shortcomings of the industry – does it do its best to educate people, and to welcome new joiners as well as it should? Is tribalism an issue, and what about ideology that sometimes can appear aggressive or extreme?
If you are looking to learn about crypto, but have always the found explanations you have come across daunting, jargon-filled or off-topic, Omid speaks in a clear and concise manner, free of condescending rhetoric and getting straight to the point. It’s a guest who clearly thinks crypto can do good in this society, but also wants to help people realise it. It was definitely different, but it was very intriguing.
Hear too about Columbia University, and how several of Omid’s students have since moved into full-time blockchain roles. We discuss layoffs across the industry – Coinbase, specifically – and whether this will continue and what impact this has on those getting into the space.
Like I said, I enjoyed this one.
Spotify link is here
Omid’s new book can be bought here, titled “Re-Architecting Trust: The Curse of History and the Crypto Cure for Money, Markets, and Platforms”. It digs into the “why” of crypto more so than the “what” – but if you want the latter, he’s got you covered too. Check him out here.

There's a NEW OLD Sheriff in Town! Binance, Tron and McAffee in the Crosshairs? #143
So, you would think that people would learn a lesson from Al Capone, that lesson being "Don't Piss off the US Government Financial Regulators"! Of course, not everyone is trying to do it on purpose and it may be that because the laws are not clear, people may not have been aware that any laws were broken.
But many lawyers and solicitors have pointed out that ignorance is not an excuse, and it is better to play safe than sorry ESPECIALLY when it comes to financial instruments. But are the SEC, CFTC, and other agencies being as fair as possible? Or are some people just begging for a spanking?
Join the host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk, Aviva Ounap as she talks to Jonathan Dunsmoor of Dunsmoor Law as they both explore who is operating in a possibly questionable way, and getting the attention of the most powerful agencies in the world.
Tune in to CryptoAndBlockchainTalk.com, the podcast that makes you smarter about the worlds of blockchain and cryptocurrency, and everything in between. It is our mission to interview the brightest stars in this space, bringing them straight to your ears for your listening pleasure, and best of all, for free!

Wikinvest:
Wikinvest always deserves a mention when you talk about investment aids online. Wikinvest Portfolio Manager is a comprehensive website that allows you to get the most out of your online investment portfolios. The site data import tools allow you to easily and quickly configure your portfolio account by integrating data from external brokerage sites in a few clicks. Not only can you view all of your accounts in one place, but you can also easily access portfolio analysis tools supported by real-time data and visualizations. Wikis also cover business reviews and performance indicators, allowing you to make smarter investment decisions. The Silver School is the place to go if you are just starting with personal finance and investing.
StockMapper:
Stock heat maps are visual aids that constantly update and tell you what's going on and what's going on in the financial markets. StockMapper is a collection of many heat maps reflecting the volatility of today's financial markets. Stock heat maps cover some of the major exchanges like NASDAQ, NYSE, and Eurotrac. You can use heat maps as a "dashboard" and apply filters to get the information you want based on all the relevant clues (there is also a 3D map). By clicking on the stock points coded by color, you also display news feeds relating to this stock or to this company.
FINVIZ:
This site is another stock visualization tool. The action screener also works with different filters. You can even create your own custom filter screens and map them to the online wallet for the stocks you want to focus on. You can save them as presets and use them later. The web application supports multiple charts with which you can monitor aspects such as different sectors, futures, and foreign exchange markets, or high performing stocks easily (among others).
Focus Guru:
By learning how the best investors invest, you can accelerate your life and your investment portfolio. The site does not have a direct portfolio management tool, but its task is to guide you in the selection of the right stocks. The site offers investment ideas through financial information, news, and commentary. The site does not concern short-term investments. Choosing a guru in real-time is a membership-based feature, but most parts of the site are free.
Stockpickr:
The site is part of The Street's network of financial reporting websites. It also found its place in the Times' best annual website list (2007). As the name suggests, all of the financial advice on the site comes from tracking the portfolios of many leading mutual funds, hedge funds and super-investors such as Warren Buffett, Wally Weitz, and George Soros. The articles that fall under Shopping Ideas are a must-read for useful information. If you have time, go to the checkout The stock game for stock trading.
MarketWatch:
If you want to invest wisely, you have to read something from the Wall Street Journal. In addition to topics, companies, people, investment support, and news markets, take a look at the podcasts and the Virtual Stock Exchange game. The investment section offers a range of tools that could help you better plan your decisions. For example, the list of major IPO operators (and the worst as well), comparisons between mutual funds and other filtering tools are well worth a bookmark.

My 2018 Writing Roundup
Tumblr media
2018 was one of those years where I felt like I was frantically treading water all year, only to look up and realize I’d actually managed to swim myself to shore. The previous two years somehow felt simultaneously tumultuous and like a plateau. At first, I thought 2018 was more of the same, but looking back it was way more of a transitional year than I realized. I’m ending the year on a higher note than I started it, which is a really nice feeling. I’m in an apartment I love, feeling a bit more stable, and I even developed the ability to do a full pushup for the first time in my life, which is by far my single greatest achievement of the year!
This was my fifth year as a full-time freelance writer, and I experienced a pretty big shift in the types of articles I wrote this year—fewer short news posts and way more long-form pieces that more truly reflect my voice and opinions. I actually didn’t realize it until creating this roundup, but good god did I do a lot of writing this year. No wonder I had some pretty severe moments of burnout. I’m incredibly proud of the volume of writing I did, although I’m also frustrated that I worked this much yet still frequently struggled to make ends meet. Thankfully, after a rocky year money-wise, I found a little more stability towards the end of the year. Here’s hoping I can carry that forward into 2019!
One of my big goals for 2018 was to immerse myself more in the world of film criticism, and boy howdy did I manage to manifest that one! I quadrupled the number of films I watched this year and filled in some big cinematic blindspots. I also began writing film reviews in a regular capacity, first at Consequence of Sound and later for The A.V. Club and Alcohollywood as well. While I’ll always enjoy writing about TV (and loved covering the shows I did this year!), TV criticism is something I kind of inadvertently fell into at the start of my career. Film has always been my first love, and I’m glad I found the courage and drive to shift into this new area of writing. It’s been lovely to start immersing myself in the world of Chicago film critics too.
But by far my biggest achievement of the year (beyond being able to do a pushup, of course!) is launching my column When Romance Met Comedy for The A.V. Club. I poured my whole heart and soul into the column, both in terms of each individual entry and in terms of shaping its overall voice and making sure to cover a diverse set of films within the rom-com genre. It’s been a lot of work (way more work than is actually cost effective for me, to be honest), but I’m incredibly proud of how the column turned out in its first year. It’s also been really lovely to get so much positive feedback, both from the commentary community as well as from my A.V. Club bosses. I started my writing career with a blog about rom-coms and I find it hilarious that it took me four years to think of actually pitching that as an idea elsewhere. I’m so glad I did, and I’m having a blast planning out my slate of films to cover in 2019. (If you want to stump for your favorite, drop me a line on Twitter!)
With that, I’ll leave you with wishes for a Happy New Year and a roundup of all the major writing I did in 2018. If you enjoyed my work this year, it would mean a lot if you would support me on either Kofi or PayPal. Or just share some of your favorite pieces with your friends!
