I feel like people often donât talk about the experiences of disabled people who have caretakers because so much of the conversation is about usânot including us.
I receive in home care for 30 hours a week (+ 4 hours/week for respite). This is paid for by Medicaid (state insurance). Outside of paid hours, my primary caretakers care for me unpaid and assist me most of the time. Iâm very rarely left alone due to my high support needs. Often, when I am left alone, I am completely bedridden or at minimum housebound. I have frequent emergency life threatening health problems, falls, and serious injuries even with support in place, and these things significantly increase when Iâm on my own.
Iâm extremely lucky that my paid caretakers are my partner, my sister (the only family member I have regular contact with, Iâm estranged from the rest of my immediate family and most of my extended family) and my best friend.
I used to have agency staffing which was horrible for me and borderline traumatic. At several points, before doing the self directed care option (which allows me to choose my own staff, hire and train them myself and dictate hours for them), I opted to not have any staffing. I was regularly in the emergency room. I canât drive, so I was having to walk and if I was lucky enough to be able to take the bus on occasion or get a ride from a Facebook acquaintance, they were few and far in between. I donât have family support, and even my sister who is supportive wasnât living in the state at the time and doesnât have a car most of the time.
And before I could even choose which staffing option, even though medically it had been deemed essential for me to have in home care, even though my insurance covered it, I had to wait several years (I was 18 when I was approved) until I was 21 to qualify to start. The reason why: I was legally an âadult disabled childâ because of my high support needs (which is funny because I STILL donât have SSI at age 24) and thus legally unable to consent to my own care plan. I needed a blood relative to consent, and that same blood relative (who had to have proof of such!) couldnât care for me. At the time, my sister was the only person who couldâve been my caregiver and also she is the only verifiable blood relative I have contact with for safety reasons, and my only relative on this side of the USA.
The first business day after my 21st birthday I immediately got things set up to get in home care.
This is out of date, I get assistance with more than just these highlighted ADL (activities of daily living) tasks now.
In short: my day-to-day life is entirely dependent on others.
And thereâs power imbalances that exist between me and my caregivers, even with my current caregivers being amazing and anti-ableist. They will always exist. We talk about the power dynamics of me being dependent on them for my survival, and how heavy that weight can be for each of us.
Having caregivers often means that accessibility is extra difficultâ Iâve been told straight up multiple times that I canât have assistance from my caregivers to help me change in a changing room when weâre out shopping. That they canât go into the bathroom with me, that they canât help me get un/dressed during appointments, that they canât come into spaces with me.
Iâve been denied access to psychiatric care because I canât do my daily living tasks (ADLs- the highlighted items) independently. And when Iâm in a hospital or emergency room, I canât have my in home workers be paid to care for me, thereâs an expectation that the nursing staff at the hospital will do it. Even though my caregivers were specifically trained to learn my body and needs for weeks and have been working with me for years. I have severe cPTSD and showering in front of a stranger is something I cannot do. I would rather fall or faint or get injured or just not shower than deal with that. But Iâm expected to just let anyone have access to my body just because Iâm physically disabled and need support.
When I faint/fall/get injured/have life threatening health issues arise while Iâm not clothed, or when Iâm otherwise vulnerable, Iâm supposed to let strangers just touch me however they want to. I have to show them my chest (for my cardiac care) and let them poke and examine me. I canât object without losing access to vital care.
I have agency. I have rights. I have autonomy. I deserve to be able to exercise these things.

Important 2024 USA Year-End Holiday Healthcare Reminders
Monday, Dec. 23rd 2024 is the best day to reliably request any year-end meds. This goes double if itâs newâdo not get fucked by prior authorizations!
If you need a prior authorization, ask the office/pharmacy to request an expedited one from your insurance. Even with that, your insurance may still drag it out. They absolutely will if you donât try tho.
Noon on Friday, Dec. 27th is pretty much last call for year-end refills. Everyone is calling in. Your doc is almost certainly not open to process orders on weekends. Being realistic here, depending on their caseload, you still may not make the cut.
If you request a refill after Friday, Dec. 27th 2024, it is probably not getting filled until January. Please still try if you need the refill, but Iâm not gonna sugarcoat it. This is not necessarily because your docâs office isnât trying. Itâs much more likely that theyâre short due to holidays & illness.
Whatever you do, do not lose your shit. There are shitty people in healthcare, and you should be able to get mad about it. Do not lose your shit at the office! If you do, you may be barred from that practice. No idea how it looks elsewhere, but itâs a 2-4+ month wait for new patients at nearly every PCP/specialist in DC, MD and VA. I know, it fucking sucks sometimes. Please donât risk your access to life sustaining care.
Please be kind. A lot of the healthcare workers who donât suck are disabled and/or otherwise marginalized. We get it, and weâre drowning over here. If you act like weâre all UHC CEOs, weâre gonna burn out trying to help you. Then, you really may be left with everyone whoâs aiming for that job.
Everything Iâve said also applies to pharmacies. Theyâre damn near criminally short on a normal day. Q4 is hell, and the last two weeks are Black Friday: extended edition. Theyâre painfully aware that someone will go without, even if they work themselves to collapse. Yelling at them isnât going to help you, itâll likely just lead to a nervous breakdown and/or early closure.
Sincerely,

Note: Hi! This is an attempt of writing a fanfic long after writing anything at all. Please also keep in mind English is no longer my first language and it might be a bit rusty and odd at times but I try my best. The story is a non idol BTS fanfic with Suga being the main character. The first chapter or so there might not be a lot of Yoongi but I want the backstory to be clear. The next chapters there will be way more of him I promise! If you want to be on the tag list let me know!
You slowly stepped into the on-call room, sighing while rubbing your aching nape. The painful muscle tension was starting to turn into a headache. You sat down on the big couch and leaned your head back, instantly feeling your body loosen and sink into the soft cushions. Today was a rough day for the ER unit. The hospital was dealing with multiple trauma victims due to a horrendous bus collision. Some patients were barely banged up others unfortunately were looking like they might not make it threw the night. You were already dreading the moment you would have to talk with their family members in case the worse was to come.
The weight of the hour-less intense work and surgeries was starting to rub off on your whole body. As you were almost about to doze off, the doors slammed wide open. âWhat a fucking tripâŚâ Jungkook stopped mid sentence when he saw you glare at him from under your hooded eyelids. âHow many energy drinks did your pour into yourself Kook?â you said in a bit agitated tone. You were tired and running on fumes. He seemed way less strained.
The on-call room was called so for a reason. It was supposed to be a safe heaven for peace and rest. It seemed as tho people like your long time friend let those facts slip their mind. âSorry Y/N. I did not think you were about to sleep⌠You looked on fire there!â scoffing a bit under your breath you mumbled âSometimes I really doubt your capability to think at all⌠and yes I was lit because I had to at the moment plus I had tons of adrenaline pumping in my system. Now itâs all wearing offâ. Running his tattooed hand threw the thick and shiny locks of hair he sighed in defeat. He knew your were right. At times he was way to energetic and high maintenance.
âStill good for tomorrow?â he changed the subject not wanting to get into a war of back and forth bantering. Nodding your head you hummed in agreement.
Both of you usually made plans on your days off to go out and give medical attention to those who were less fortunate. You took care of the homeless, drug addicts and poor elders that were embarrassed to seek help at the official medical institutions. Many times it was also the lack of insurance that could get very high. The two of you saw it as charity and giving back to society.
You met Jungkook at med school in the USA. He was a scholarship student that worked his way into getting the opportunity to study overseas. You were the only person at your year that was able to speak Korean due to the fact you went to Seoul during part of your high school years. So of course you were more than happy to help Kook who at times struggled with the more difficult English terms during the lectures.
Over the years you two grew close and he was the one to say you should once again go to Seoul and take up your internship there. Being an adventurous young woman the mere thought of it seemed a great idea. So here you were years later already after your internship with a secured position as one of the junior trauma surgeons and planning charity work with your friend. You already scheduled some âappointmentsâ with your long term patients.
To be honest you preferred this type of work more than the big shot tasks at the hospital. For you medicine should focus more on helping people. The world showed you many times that if you were less fortunate or simply made some bigger mistakes in life, the cruel reality was that usually there was no way to afford medical attention and insurance. Sometimes it was also the cost of meds themselves. Those could be unbelievably high, especially when it came to rare or terminal illnesses.
You and Kookie worked with official charities that did their best to find funds for some crucial medication for the poor. Not once did you also end up saving lives of some addicts that overdosed. Usually people just let them lay on the streets and did not care to help. You could not blame them tho. The less nice areas of the city were also full of con artists and people simply did not want to risk their own lives. At times it was also the mentality of âthey did it to themselves, now they need to bear the consequencesâ.
You were not there to judge. How could any of you know what these people went threw in life? What pushed them to âself medicateâ. So you kept focused solemnly on helping those who seemed like they needed it.
You closed your eyes again trying to ignore the fact that Jungkook was rustling around with some food wrapping. âIf I am to survive the last two hours of this hell shift and be of any use tomorrow I would greatly appreciate you stop making a ruckus and let me rest!â you huffed angrily, not even bothering to open your eyes. Once the room was filled with silence, a content smirk spread over your lips. At last the well deserved quiet. Sweet darkness of dreamland slowly took over your mind.
*** *** ***
Getting to your apartment after ending a difficult day at the hospital always filled you with relief. It was close to 8 p.m. Not having to work the night shift this time and having the day off tomorrow made you really happy. As you walked deeper into the hallway your nostrils got hit with a mouthwatering smell of delicious food cooking, it instantly made a smile spread on your lips. The sizzling sound coming from the kitchen meant that your fiancĂŠ was already off work as well.
He was one of the best criminal detectives in the city. You both worked hard and sometimes very long hours, but you somehow managed to keep your relationship flourishing threw all the years. Walking towards the sweet and sour smell, you saw his slim frame hovering over some pans and stirring their content. His wide slim shoulders moving under a simple black t-shirt. They matched so well with his thin waist shaping his figure into a perfect triangle.
Resting against the door frame you stared at him in awe. âAre you gonna keep looking or do you plan on saying hello?â he said in a joking tone and turned to you with a big grin that reached to his eyes. You always wondered how he could keep such a sunshine attitude while working a job full of murders, death and gore.
Pushing your back off the frame you walked to him humming and wrapping your arms around him. You rested your chin on his shoulder, breathing in his fresh scent. âHoba⌠you are too good to meâŚâ you murmured and kissed him behind the ear. The fact that after a surely long day of work for him, he was there making you both a nice late dinner made your heart squeeze.
You really appreciated having him in you life and that somehow you both were deeply involved despite having hectic and difficult careers. The saying - where there is will there is a way - always made you think of your relationship with Hoseok.
After finishing dinner and basically licking your plate clean, you turned to Hobi with a smile âIâll take care of the dishesâ you said taking the plates from the table and making your way to the kitchen. As you were about to dry off the last glass you felt slender fingers creep up your back. You turned your face a bit a small smirk twisting the side of your lips.
âI was thinking of desertâŚâ Hoseok said in a deep voice staring straight into your eyes. âOh yea? You want me to run down to the store and grab something?â you teased, being well aware that was not what he had in mind. The twinkling of your eyes giving away how much you were enjoying this. But your fiancĂŠ was not the type to put up with games for too long so his only response was rolling his eyes, grabbing you and lifting you up. Wrapping your legs around his waist you kissed him desperately.
Lately both of you were so busy with work, you barely had the time or strength for even watching a movie together, so you excitedly welcomed the attention he was giving you. Not bothering to make it to the bedroom you ended on his lap on the couch. Your kisses were getting wild and messy. Just as you started to grind against his growing member, your breaths getting fast and uneven, you heard the loud ring of your phone.
If it were any other signal you would chose to ignore it completely, but the ring tone suggested is was Jungkook from his âspecialâ number in case of an emergency. âFoooor fucks sake!â you growled trying to wait out the call, still kissing and moving your hips over your fiancĂŠ. If it was just a couple rings you could try and tell yourself your friend was piss ass drunk messing around.
Much to your dismay the phone kept on buzzing âI need to take thisâŚâ you said sadly looking at Hobi who was trying to even out his excited heartbeat. âItâs ok babeâ he said, he knew he could not be angry about it, usually it was him being called into some crime scene. You walked away to answer the call âYou better be almost dead or something close to that to have a reason for calling me at this hour! you hissed into the speaker.
âY/N! This is serious. A guy needs help⌠he canât get into the hospital and the wounds are beyond my expertise. I am downstairs waiting for you. I really need your fucking help. I will explain everything laterâ his voice was shaky and full of what seemed like fear, so you stopped your ranting right away.
You quickly ran to grab your coat âI am coming down!â closing the door on your way out you told Hoseok you might have a very late night and maybe he should not wait up for you. Taking quick strides down the stairs of your apartment building you once again were thanking the universe for the most understanding man to have chosen to exist in your life.
*** *** ***
You quickly got into Kooks car throwing your medical bag onto the back seat. âI brought all my suturing stuff in case it was really that badâŚâ you said under your breath still a bit irked at the fact you were driving somewhere instead of getting frisky with your lover. âYou will need it. Trust meâŚâ is all your friend said.
Turing to finally look at him you saw he was pale, his hair was messy and his forehead was beaded with sweat. He was clutching the stirring wheel to the point his knuckles were white. You never saw him so nervous, not even at the hospitals ER unit.
Driving in silence for some time you finally snapped out of your trail of thoughts and realized you made it into the shady outskirts of Seoul. Even when working on your charity missions you both never made it into the really dangerous corners of the city, so you were very surprised and felt a shiver run threw your body.
You let your questioning gaze fall to Kookie, you were about to blurt out a âwhat the fuck man?â but before you could, he was out of the car grabbing your bag and walking to your side. Seeing your face full of questions, he opened the car door for you looking at you seriously âItâs fine⌠we are fine⌠we need to go thereâ he pointed towards a dark building that looked like a hangar.
Your body involuntarily shook at the sight. You immediately thought of all the crime scenes and stories Hobi shared with you from time to time when you asked him about work. But instead of listening to your panicking mind, you decided that surely Jungkook had to know what was going on and since he said it was fine it had to be, right?
You cautiously walked behind him letting him carry your bag. Usually you would always rip it out just to show what a strong and independent woman you were. Once you walked into the building you could hear the soles of your shoes clank on the hard floor. It all started to feel like some thriller movie, the type with a bad ending. The beating of your heart was so loud you could swear Kook had to hear it. The adrenalin was rushing in your system and you were starting to feel in flight mode.
Before you could panic more, an unknown voice broke you out of the cycle âFucking boutâ time!â a tall and strong built guy growled at your friend and then eyed you top to bottom. âThis is that great surgeon? She is supposed to be better than you?â he scoffed, a look of disbelief forming on his face. âFor your information I am fucking better at surgical work than most!â you snapped. You were freaked out and now some dude that looked like a typical thug was trying to insult you.
âYou better not be just running your mouth hunâ he smirked grabbing you by the wrist and pulling you to the next room. He basically shoved you inside and tossed your bag at you. You didnât even know when he managed to take it from Kook. The sight in front of you was gruesome. A young male about your age was laying on some banged up table. Blood was oozing out of his stomach. His pitch black long hair was sticky, his skin pale as a sheet of paper.
âBloody hellâŚâ you whispered walking up to the man. You turned to look at your colleague giving him the âwhat do you expect me to do?! make a fucking miracle happen?!â stare. You bent over the man and checked for a pulse. To your surprise he was still alive.
Looking at his slashed abdomen you thought to yourself there is now way you can do anything in these conditions. Even if by some chance you were to manage to stitch him up, the place was far from sterile, so he would die of sepsis anyway. âHe needs a fucking hospital!â you say and take your phone out to call up an ambulance.
Suddenly your cell got knocked out of your hands and fell to the floor with a loud thud. Just as your were about to scream your head off, you saw it, the end of a gun pointing straight at your forehead. âNo hospitalsâ the tall male snarled. Now you were sure, you got into some gang business and this was not gonna go the way you want.

HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
AUG 25
The raucous roll call of states at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, as everybody danced to DJ Cassidyâs state-themed music, Lil Jon strode down the aisle to cheers for Georgia, and different delegations boasted about their states and good-naturedly teased other delegations, brought home the real-life meaning of E Pluribus Unum, âout of many, one.â From then until Thursday, as a sea of American flags waved and attendees joyfully chanted âUSA, USA, USA,â the convention welcomed a new vision for the Democratic Party, deeply rooted in the best of traditional America.Â
Under the direction of President Joe Biden, over the past three and a half years the Democrats have returned to the economic ideology of the New Deal coalition of the 1930s. This weekâs convention showed that it has now gone further, recentering the vision of government that President Franklin Delano Rooseveltâs secretary of labor, Frances Perkins, called upon to make it serve the interests of communities.    Â
When the Biden-Harris administration took office in 2021, the United States was facing a deadly pandemic and the economic crash it had caused. The country also had to deal with the aftermath of the attempt of former president Donald Trump to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and seize the presidency. It appeared that many people in the United States, as in many other countries around the world, had given up on democracy.Â
Biden set out to prove that democracy could work for ordinary people by ditching the neoliberalism that had been in place for forty years. That system, begun in the 1980s, called for the government to allow unfettered markets to organize the economy. Neoliberalismâs proponents promised it would create widespread prosperity, but instead, it transferred more than $50 trillion from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1%. As the middle class hollowed out, those slipping behind lined up behind an authoritarian figure who promised to restore their former centrality by attacking those he told them were their enemies.
When he took office, Biden vowed to prove that democracy worked. With laws like the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act, the Democrats directed investment toward ordinary Americans. The dramatic success of their economic program proved that it worked. On Wednesday, former president Bill Clinton noted that since 1989, the U.S. has created 51 million new jobs. Fifty million of those jobs were created under Democratic presidents, while only 1 million were added under Republicansâa striking statistic that perhaps will put neoliberalism, or at least the tired trope that Democrats are worse for the economy than Republicans, to bed.Â
Vice President Kamala Harrisâs nomination convention suggested a more thorough reworking of the federal government, one that also recalls the 1930s but suggests a transformation that goes beyond markets and jobs.Â
Before Labor Secretary Perkinsâs 1935 Social Security Act, the government served largely to manage the economic relationships between labor, capital, and resources. But Perkins recognized that the purpose of government was not to protect property; it was to protect the community. She recognized that children, women, and elderly and disabled Americans were as valuable to the community as young male workers and the wealthy men who employed them.
With a law that established a federal system of old-age benefits; unemployment insurance; aid to homeless, dependent, and neglected children; funds to promote maternal and child welfare; and public health services, Perkins began the process of molding the government to reflect that truth.Â
Perkinsâs understanding of the United States as a community reflected both her time in a small town in Maine and in her experience as a social worker in inner-city Philadelphia and Chicago before the law provided any protections for the workers, including children, who made the new factories profitable. She understood that while lawmakers focused on male workers, the American economy was, and always has been, utterly dependent on the unrecognized contributions of women and marginalized people in the form of childcare, sharing food and housing, and the many forms of unpaid work that keep communities functioning.Â
This reworking of the American government to reflect community rather than economic
relationships changed the entire fabric of the country, and opponents have worked to destroy it ever since FDR began to put it in place.Â
Now, in their quest to win the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota governor Tim Walzâthe Democratic nominees for president and vice presidentâhave reclaimed the idea of community, with its understanding that everyone matters and the government must serve everyone, as the center of American life.Â
Their vision rejects the division of the country into âusâ and âthemâ that has been a staple of Republican politics since President Richard M. Nixon. It also rejects the politics of identity that has become identified with the argument that the United States has been irredeemably warped by racism and sexism. Instead, at the DNC, Democrats acknowledged the many ways in which the country has come up short of its principles in the past, and demanded that Americans do something to put in place a government that will address those inequities and make the American dream accessible to all.
Walz personifies this community vision. On Wednesday he laid it out from the very beginning of his acceptance speech, noting that he grew up in Butte, Nebraska, a town of 400 people, with 24 kids in his high school class. â[G]rowing up in a small town like that,â he said, âyou'll learn how to take care of each other that that family down the road, they may not think like you do, they may not pray like you do, they may not love like you do, but they're your neighbors and you look out for them and they look out for you. Everybody belongs and everybody has a responsibility to contribute.â The football players Walz coached to a state championship joined him on stage.
Harris also called out this idea of community when she declined to mention that, if elected, she will be the first female president, and instead remembered growing up in âa beautiful working-class neighborhood of firefighters, nurses, and construction workers, all who tended their lawns with pride.â Her mother, Harris said, âleaned on a trusted circle to help raise us. Mrs. Shelton, who ran the daycare below us and became a second mother. Uncle Sherman. Aunt Mary. Uncle Freddy. And Auntie Chris. None of them, family by blood. And all of them, Family. By loveâŚ. Family whoâŚinstilled in us the values they personified. Community. Faith. And the importance of treating others as you would want to be treated. With kindness. Respect. And compassion.â
The speakers at the DNC called out the women who make communities function. Speaker after speaker at the DNC thanked their mother. Former first lady Michelle Obama explicitly described her mother, Marian Robinson, as someone who lived out the idea of hope for a better future, working for children and the community. Mrs. Obama described her mother as âglad to do the thankless, unglamorous work that for generations has strengthened the fabric of this nation.âÂ
Mrs. Obama, Harris, and Walz have emphasized that while they come from different backgrounds, they come from what Mrs. Obama called âthe same foundational valuesâ: âthe promise of this country,â âthe obligation to lift others up,â a âresponsibility to give more than we take.â Harris agreed, saying her mother âtaught us to never complain about injustice. ButâŚdo something about it. She also taught usâNever do anything half-assed. Thatâs a direct quote.â
The Democrats worked to make it clear that their vision is not just the Democratic Partyâs vision but an American one. They welcomed the union workers and veterans who have in the past gravitated toward Republicans, showing a powerful video contrasting Trumpâs photo-ops, in which actors play union workers, with the actual plants being built thanks to money from the Biden-Harris administration. The many Democratic lawmakers who have served in the military stood on stage to back Arizona representative Ruben Gallego, a former Marine, who told the crowd that the veteran unemployment rate under Biden and Harris is the lowest in history.Â
The many Republicans who spoke at the convention reinforced that the Democratic vision speaks for the whole country. Former representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) identified this vision as âconservative.â âAs a conservative and a veteran,â he said âI believe true strength lies in defending the vulnerable. Itâs in protecting your family. Itâs in standing up for our Constitution and our democracy. ThatâŚis the soul of being a conservative. It used to be the soul of being a Republican,â Kinzinger said. âBut Donald Trump has suffocated the soul of the Republican Party.âÂ
â[A] harm against any one of us is a harm against all of us,â Harris said. And she reminded people of her career as a prosecutor, in which â[e]very day in the courtroom, I stood proudly before a judge and said five words: âKamala Harris, for the People.â My entire career, I have only had one client. The People.â
âAnd so, on behalf of The People. On behalf of every American. Regardless of party. Race. Gender. Or the language your grandmother speaks. On behalf of my mother and everyone who has ever set out on their own unlikely journey. On behalf of Americans like the people I grew up with. People who work hard. Chase their dreams. And look out for one another. On behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth. I accept your nomination for President of the United States of America.â
The 100,000 biodegradable balloons that fell from the rafters when Vice President Harris accepted the Democratic nomination for president were blown up and tied by a team of 55 balloon artists from 18 states and Canada who volunteered to prepare the drop in honor of their colleague, Tommy DeLorenzo, who, along with his husband Scott, runs a balloon business. DeLorenzo is battling cancer. âWeâre more colleagues than competitors,â Patty Sorell told Sydney Page of the Washington Post. âWe all wanted to do something to help Tommy, to show him how much we love him.âÂ
âWords cannot express the gratitude I feel for this community,â DeLorenzo said. Â

Daily Devotionals for November 9, 2024
Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 27:23-24 (KJV): 23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. 24 For riches are not forever: and doth the crown endure to every generation? Proverbs 27:23-24 (AMP): 23 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds; 24 For riches are not forever; does a crown endure to all generations?
Thought for the Day
Verse 23 - Although these verses were addressed to farmers, we can relate to them today in regard to our businesses. We are to take responsibility and know the state of our affairs. Large flocks of sheep and goats made a man wealthy in ancient Israel. This proverb advised a wealthy man to personally know the condition of his flocks and ascertain that his overseers fulfilled their responsibilities properly. They were to protect and keep count of them, taking special care of the sick, injured, and pregnant ones; paying special attention to the babies.
Having riches or employment now does not guarantee we will always have them. We need to give diligent care and management to our livelihood. Romans 12:11 says, "Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord." Negligence creates problems that can lead to severe financial difficulties. Many factors can lead to bankruptcy, such as over-extending oneself (due to greed or lack of sound business principles) or extenuating circumstances beyond one's control. Sometimes it is not people's fault that they are forced into bankruptcy since they are victims of illness, tragedy, or uncontrollable disasters. Despite this, many of the bankruptcies which are filed today could have been avoided if diligence had been practiced. "He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich" (Proverbs 10:4).
Verse 24 - Just as a king will not rule throughout every generation, riches do not last forever. There is a good deal of truth to the statement, "money talks: it says 'good-bye'." Money says "good-bye" in numerous ways, such as in poor planning for the future. As people age, their work capacity diminishes, which usually decreases their income. Without wise and diligent care of their finances, people may spend all their money when they are young and leave themselves with nothing to live on when they are old. If we heed the Lord and apply good business principles in regard to our finances, we can rest assured that we will have enough when we are in our senior years. Living for God is one of the best insurance policies anyone can have. He can provide what no human agency can, such as good health. He promises that the righteous will still bear fruit in old age (Psalm 92:12-14), meaning that they will remain productive. We must diligently take up our responsibilities if we desire God's blessings, and not forget to help others along the way. If we bless others, God will return those blessings to us when we are in need.
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for Your abundant provision in my life. I am grateful, not only for financial provision, but for the spiritual blessings that You have also given me. I do appreciate daily strength and health so that I am able to be diligent in all of my affairs. Give me wisdom so that I might prepare for the future properly. Ultimately, my faith and trust are in You, as You hold the future; however, may I not neglect those things in the natural that need to be done, so that I am not ill-prepared. Lord, also, I do not want to forget to give and help others along the way as well. May I be a good steward over all that You have given me. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Lifetime Coverage: Whole life insurance provides coverage for the insured's lifetime, ensuring financial protection for beneficiaries regardless of when the insured passes away.
Cash Value Accumulation: Apportion of the premiums paid towards whole life insurance accumulates as cash value over time, which can be accessed through policy loans or withdrawals.
Guaranteed Premiums: Premiums for whole life insurance policies are typically fixed and guaranteed not to increase over time, providing stability and predictability in financial planning.
Death Benefit: Upon the insuredâs death, the policy pays out a tax-free death benefit to designated beneficiaries, providing financial security and support during a difficult time.
Benefits of Whole Life Insurance
Whole life insurance offers arrange of benefits that make it an attractive option for individuals and families:
Financial Protection

obligations, easing the burden on loved ones during a challenging time.
Cash Value Growth
The cash value component of whole life insurance policies accumulates over time, growing tax-deferred at a guaranteed rate of return. Policyholders can access this cash value through policy loans or withdrawals to supplement retirement income, fund educational expenses, or address financial emergencies.
Estate Planning

The death benefit proceeds pass directly to beneficiaries outside of probate, avoiding delays and administrative expenses associated with the probate process.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
August 24, 2024 (Saturday)
The raucous roll call of states at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, as everybody danced to DJ Cassidyâs state-themed music, Lil Jon strode down the aisle to cheers for Georgia, and different delegations boasted about their states and good-naturedly teased other delegations, brought home the real-life meaning of E Pluribus Unum, âout of many, one.â From then until Thursday, as a sea of American flags waved and attendees joyfully chanted âUSA, USA, USA,â the convention welcomed a new vision for the Democratic Party, deeply rooted in the best of traditional America.
When the Biden-Harris administration took office in 2021, the United States was facing a deadly pandemic and the economic crash it had caused. The country also had to deal with the aftermath of the attempt of former president Donald Trump to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and seize the presidency. It appeared that many people in the United States, as in many other countries around the world, had given up on democracy.
Fifty million of those jobs were created under Democratic presidents, while only 1 million were added under Republicansâa striking statistic that perhaps will put neoliberalism, or at least the tired trope that Democrats are worse for the economy than Republicans, to bed.
Vice President Kamala Harrisâs nomination convention suggested a more thorough reworking of the federal government, one that also recalls the 1930s but suggests a transformation that goes beyond markets and jobs.
With a law that established a federal system of old-age benefits; unemployment insurance; aid to homeless, dependent, and neglected children; funds to promote maternal and child welfare; and public health services, Perkins began the process of molding the government to reflect that truth.
Perkinsâs understanding of the United States as a community reflected both her time in a small town in Maine and in her experience as a social worker in inner-city Philadelphia and Chicago before the law provided any protections for the workers, including children, who made the new factories profitable. She understood that while lawmakers focused on male workers, the American economy was, and always has been, utterly dependent on the unrecognized contributions of women and marginalized people in the form of childcare, sharing food and housing, and the many forms of unpaid work that keep communities functioning.
This reworking of the American government to reflect community rather than economic relationships changed the entire fabric of the country, and opponents have worked to destroy it ever since FDR began to put it in place.
Now, in their quest to win the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota governor Tim Walzâthe Democratic nominees for president and vice presidentâhave reclaimed the idea of community, with its understanding that everyone matters and the government must serve everyone, as the center of American life.
Mrs. Obama described her mother as âglad to do the thankless, unglamorous work that for generations has strengthened the fabric of this nation.â
The many Democratic lawmakers who have served in the military stood on stage to back Arizona representative Ruben Gallego, a former Marine, who told the crowd that the veteran unemployment rate under Biden and Harris is the lowest in history.
It used to be the soul of being a Republican,â Kinzinger said. âBut Donald Trump has suffocated the soul of the Republican Party.â
â[A] harm against any one of us is a harm against all of us,â Harris said.

My favorite headcanons
The best thing with headcanons is what they are doing for our imagination. It allows us to stay in a serie verse, and to explore a huge varityof topics in fanfictions. About Gallavich, Iâve a crush on several, mostly in post canon : *Ian and Mickey learn to be happy in the Ouest Side, and live there several years, but they chose to buy a house in the South Side when they're ready to start that adventure. *The years following canon are pretty calm for them, a good occasion to work on their past traumas, even if it takes time. With an health insurance, Ian as a good support system to help him managing his bipolar disorder, and is less reluctant to asking for help when he needs. Mickey is more opened up about Terry's abuses, and after a long time, success to evocate the terrible day of 3x666 with his husband. *They adopts a dog, after nearly four years of marriage. Mickey doesn't hate that, not at all, and is less scared about the idea of having children. *In their professional life, they keep Gallavich Security, and hiring people. Mickey doesn't says it directly to him, but he wants to be off, for taking care of Ian if he has an episode. With that decision, they can take time to start other activities they like. Mickey could manage a other bisness, and Ian could go back to a job in the medical environnement. *Mickey is Ianâs main support in the management of his bipolar disorder, staying at home with him during low episodes (what ever if heâs missing at work), and calming him down if heâs manic, till his meds would be adjusted. *Ian wants them to do some "normal things" from times to times, like going to yoga class, trying dates in romantic places, or growing or cooking vegetables. He's alsow preoccupied by their health, incitating Mickey to quite stop smoking, or going to the clinic when he's sick or hurt. Mickey is reluctant with almost everything, but finish up by accepting to try at least. *Mickey suffers of anxity. He needs time to deal with it. Ian already understood it, even during canon, maybe. Iâm not shure Mickey would go to therapy, so Ian trys to help him with "self care" technics, and pushes him to talk. *Ian and Mickey are very presents in their nephews's life. They have a particular relation with Franny. Growing up, she often comes to them, to take a break fromhome if things are difficult with Debbie. Ian and Mickey sometimes picks her up at sport or at school, and they share meals at diner or at their home. With Franny Mickey understands that he can spend happy and relaxed moment with a child, and be a positive element in his life. *They see Mandy severeal times a year, and catch up lost time with her. *They enjoy life. They travel, in USA, and somewhere else. They go to the restaurant. They sometimes do shopping, even if they dont have the sames tastes for decoration. Growing old, they take walks, in parks and forests.

Love love love ihm and just want to understand why y/n is so panicked about âgetting caughtâ. Is getting married for insurance illegal? Ik itâs a bit taboo to question a story lol, but just trying to follow along better! Totally fair if itâs a made up plot device ofc
Iâm so excited to see how the story goes, youâre very talented â¤ď¸
hi bb oh not at all i am more than happy to explain anything haha! plus you're so respectful ab it so dw
yes yes so first off i think ihm reader in general has a little bit of a paranoid personality haha. there's been a couple times in ihm where this is alluded to w the difference in her reactions to certain things vs the people around her (like in ch2 when her coworker asks her why she's so paranoid ab everything all the time like getting a medical lawsuit, and when gojo is like who tf is out there tryna sabotage our fake marriage, or sumn like that) but i think that's just kind of how she's grown to be with trust issues and living in constant fear
but yes at least where i live (usa) it is illegal to get married for purely just spousal benefits!! like for example to get an american citizenship or for insurance or tax benefits. in ihm's case, it would be marital fraud as well as insurance fraud. in the research i've done for the series, i know that marital fraud is tough to prove, but there are certain ways that an investigation can prove it, such as: inconsistent statements from both parties, no evidence of relationship prior to the marriage, suspicious timings (for example when someone's visa is expiring or in reader's case in ihm, her mother's illness has progressed), testimony and witness from others close to the alleged couple (that's why her messing up her story in front of her neighbors and also her neighbors not even knowing she had married gojo was a big red flag to choso) etc etc
as for the consequences of getting convicted, i think this part in ihm ch3 kinda lays it out:
"You know the U.S. federal codes in the law for marital & insurance fraud like the back of your hand, since you read through them hundreds of times before deciding if your little arrangement with Gojo would be worth it. 8 U.S.C. 1033 and 18 U.S.C. 371 provide for a penalty of up to ten years in prison for insurance fraud. And under that statute, you can also be fined up to $250,000. The best case scenario is that you just have to divorce Gojo, and forfeit your chances of ever recovering from your crippling debt."
and then obviously in addition to financial penalties, a criminal record can lead to more disadvantages later in life, like issues getting employed, disqualification from certain welfare systems, reader could also potentially lose her nursing license, her insurance claims could be denied and that would lead to abrupt loss of health care for her mother...soooo yea there's some more stuff i looked into too hahah but these are just some reasons to name a few as to why she is very paranoid about it
hope this helps to explain!! <3 much love
