Hello! Are you hyperfixated on RedactedAudio?
Do you want (need) to know who to follow to cultivate your dashboard and feed your gremlin brain good, good boyfriend roleplay content?
Cool, I’ve got you, and I’ve got hyperlinks. Buckle up.
(Note: This is by no means a comprehensive, objective, or complete list. I've only been in the fandom for six months or so. I have biases and favorites and limited time. I hope to update this list periodically, and if you feel I've missed someone, please feel free to reblog with your additions! I just would have loved a guide like this when I got into the fandom back in August and wanted to spread some positivity~!)
Fanfiction:
@angelnoodlesoup: she/her
Sophie is just one of the sweetest David stans that's ever existed who writes, like, the sweetest things about him. Her posts are just going to make you feel warm, fluffy, soft things in your heart area; give into the sweetness. Highlights: Sophie writes this adorable timestamp series of vignettes exploring Davey and Angel's day, but I'm particularly attacked to their David/Angel neighbors to lovers AU~
@arrowfleur
I was actually going to put Max in the visual content portion of this post, because they post delightful Redacted edits on Tiktok (under the same username, highly recommend~), but then they made a uquiz that gave me an existential crisis, so here we are. Highlights: This quiz sent my whole server for a loop and has made me reconsider my relationship with Lovely as a character and kin; it's a great time.
@batch-of-pengwings: robin/bird, she/her
Robin, an absolute sweetheart who makes all the fun ask games that keep the community interconnected and thinking and talking which is just really sweet and fun in the best way. Highlights: The Winter Wonderland game is the one who went around most recently, and it’s so fun to engage with the fandom and discuss who we think is stupid enough to get their tongues stuck on a telephone poll~
@bicyclepainting: they/them
Clover, the fandom's resident Smartass, doing the lord's work and reminding us all how fucking smoochable Aaron is on a regular basis on top of being the coolest astrology nerd don't give them your birth chart you will be perceived /lh Highlights: No one is doing Aaron/Smartass like they are; like, read and absorb the delicious, domestic delight that is them. I also recommend their deep dives into the Redacted bois signs, if you're into that; they're very thorough and fun to read!
@cashandprizes: she/they
My Lexi, my queerplatonic soulmate… She is on a quest to dissect and critique fandom brick by philosophical brick, and I both love her and fear her in equal measure. (That’s a lie, I love her infinitely, more than anything, but she is in fact incredibly intelligent and intimidating.) Highlights: Come for the scathing insights into gray-morality and DD:DNE’s place in fiction, stay for the stripper!Gavin fic they’re working on and their sequel to Lasko’s SexTember audio because she really wanted to make him cry
@ejunkiet: she/her
EJ, the very first of my Redacted loves~ Not only is EJ an endless well of kindness and positivity, but she also writes fucking bomb ass everything. You get angst, you get smut, you get fluff- We stan a multitalented, ace queen. (She also writes really cute CastleAudios fanfiction and original stuff as a cherry on top.) Highlights: EJ writes just some of my favorite David/Angel smut; she captures Angel's little shit nature perfectly. She's also written the sweetest thing of Damien meeting Huxley's moms that I can't get enough of~
@dominimoonbeam: she/her
Domini, truly one of the pillars of the fandom. I don't know what'd we'd be without her fantastic fics or her original novellas or her fantastic, beautiful, rarepair-creating brain. Highlights: God, there's too many to choose from! There's the Sam/Darlin fake dating AU that has us all gripped by the proverbial balls. There's the David/Darlin tattoo shop AU that has me frothing at the mouth because tattoo artists are stinkin hot. That's not even getting into their Cam/William fic, because god, that is such a good rarepair. We love two immortals finding love with one another, we really do. My personal favorite has got to be their Huxley/Darlin piece though, because Darlin gets to be cute and awkward and so, so loved in it.
@frenchiefitzhere: she/her
Frenchie, the fandom's unofficial (but basically official) Marie Greer, not only a gorgeous writer but also the creator of the most fantastical and unique fansongs (who makes original audio content to boot~) Highlights: We would be nowhere as a fandom without the Marie/Colm greer backstory and saga or her audios as the Greer Matriarch herself, but personally? Her Imperium!Lasko/Adam fic kind of changed my life, I'm kind of obsessed with it.
@friendlyfaded: he/him
Miles, the king and professor of the rarepairs! Beware, you will leave his blog wishing for fics for a ship that doesn’t actually exist yet. It’s unavoidable when you read the careful, creative, thoughtful way he considers seemingly silly pairings and makes them gorgeous. Highlights: I recommend his whole rarepairs with prof tag for a snack and his Sweetheart/Lasko/Milo fic for a whole meal~
@gingerbreadmonsters: she/her
Ginger, literally one of the sweetest, friendliest people in the entire Internet. I cannot adequately describe the absolute magnificent poetry of Ginger's prose, so you just have to read it for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Highlights: Ginger's Milo/Sweetheart series is for if you're feeling sweet, and her Vincent/Lovely/Gavin/Freelancer foursome fic is if you're feeling spicy~ Or if you're like me and are longing for an character we'll never see again, you can read her gorgeous, Doctor Who-inspired look in Marcus's mind.
@glassbearclock: she/her
Beans, also known as the best Milo/Sweetheart writer in the game. Their banter is taken from the mouth of god and first name Erik last name Redacted himself, and you could not convince me otherwise. Highlights: I’m a big fan of her sweet, wholesome, Jewish!Milo sick fic, but aYO her Milo/Sweetheart first date fic is so good y’all like goddamn Sweetheart phases through their door and makes Milo faceplant it on accident man that shit is so good
@horrorscoupes: they/he
My beautiful, darling Lotus, my gloriously deranged brother in arms (affectionate). The way they write each and every d(a)emons is just so -chef kiss-. Highlights: I think about their Regulus/Doll fic, like, literally every day, it's just yummy and depraved. Though, for a true taste of genius, for a galaxy brain treat, you've got to read his Shark!Vega/Pet masterpiece.
@k9rage: he/xi
My beloved Calico, our helpful Image Description fairy. He is just so cool and writes the most glorious smut like the world has ever seen. As of publishing, he's writing a Vega/Lasko street racing AU that's gonna be just smoke ash cinder fire hot. Highlights: You need to read his Damien/Gavin waxplay fic; like, this changed my life, I think about it daily. Ooh, AND his Aaron/SmartAss/Gavin threesome fic, because he didn't do all that thinking and imagining for us to not appreciate it. I'm also reccing @calicostorms, his other blog and spotify, so you can get at his stellar Redacted character playlists!
@lovelylonerliterature:
Lovely, absolute stand-out writer in the fandom! Would you believe they have a whole (as of posting) 95 works for the RedactedASMR fandom on AO3? There’s <2000 fics, which makes Lovely a whole five percent of the fanfiction on their own. That’s wild and so hella cool. Highlights: Literally everything they write. Explore their extremely well done masterlist, it’s beautifully put together, and you’ll find something you love. (I’m particularly fond of the Darlin/Vega fic they wrote based off of one of FriendlyFaded’s posts~)
@romirola: she/her
Dr. Romi, the one and the only and one of the legitimate sweetest goddamn people that has ever existed. You've never met a more polite, darling person in all your days. How did she write all these thousands of words of art while getting a doctorate? God, I wish I knew... if only we could also be so beautiful and wonderful and accomplished. Highlights: You haven't existed until you've read her Milo/Sweetheart Tangled AU; like, what are you doing here? GO. (I also deeply recommend her found family Shaw Pack + Sam fic, if you're looking for something that's still ongoing!)
@sealriously-sealrious: they/them
Chrys who writes- no contest I think we can all agree- the best Huxley that this fandom has ever seen. He is just so well-explored and so multifaceted, just the top-tier himbo content we all need and deserve. Highlights: Huxley and Freelancer at the aquarium, Huxley and Freelancer going camping, sfw, nsfw, whatever you want, we've GOT. (There's even some imperium!Huxley, if you're so inclined >:))
@starlitangels: she/her
Starlit, another absolute powerhouse of the fandom. Just look at this masterlist, I think there’s something here for literally every character. That’s what babes call RANGE. Highlights: The way they explore the Shaw pack is so fun; I’d highly recommend her fic exploring Gabe and his backstory or her fic exploring the Shaw’s future pups~!
@taelonsamada: she/her
A pillar- or should I say fence post?- of the fandom and just an utter peach. Always has a nice word to say and says the best nice words about Sam and Darlin- Highlights: Her nsfw Geordi/Cutie fic holds a special place in my heart (the blindfold? the gag? Be still my beating heart), but you haven’t lived until you’ve read her Shaw-centric Ranch AU~!
@teasandcardigans: she/her
Mads, another lovely creator that could be in either section of this post- that's how talented she is! Not only is she a lovely writer but she also designs the most fun Redacted stickers! Also, she's got the only Redacted fan tiktok that Erik has confirmed seen and liked, can't not mention that it's so cool Highlights: Honestly, there's too many to mention! A really popular of hers is a "What If" echo-esque reimagining of everyone's stories which is so fun, and my personal, biased favorite is her Alexis & Gavin fic hear me OUT-
@the-sugar-crash
Cait, out here doing the most and the best. They’ve run the Redacted Winter Gift Exchange for the past two years, connecting blogs who might have never spoken to each other, inspiring creativity, and spreading holiday cheer~ Highlights: I recommend taking a look-see through the “Redacted 2022 Winter Gift Exchange” tag- much thanks to Cait for making it possible- to consider if you’d like to join next year! Until then, there’s a compilation of their cute headcanon posts to inspire you!
@zozo-01: she/her
Zo, one of the sweetest people in the fandom~ Not only is she a fantastic writer, but she is also one of the friendliest people in the space! Constantly excited and supportive and positive and a joy to follow and befriend. Highlights: Her Sam/Darlin Deity AU is going to change the world and break some hearts, I just know it. (Just like her Alexis and Darlin meeting fic broke mine-) If you're not up to getting your heart broken and just want a friend, I recommend asking her about her Powerpoint of Bollywood scenes that could be Sam/Darlin moments~!
Fanart:
@andr0leda: she/they
Androleda’s art is so gorgeous in that most of them are uncolored or working with a smaller palette, and it just makes those colors stand out and the line work all the more elegant. Highlights: Their wolf!Darlin piece got so popular, and you can see why! It looks like the cover of a really cool YA fantasy novel. Also, her Sam/Darlin art just melts the heart- the gentle hand, the key around the neck-!
@artbykays
Kays, a fantastic artist who plays around with the prettiest, brightest colors and has the prettiest (hottest) fem listeners. They also have super fun Redacted playlists! Highlights: Their Sweetheart, Valentina, is kind of smokin hot, I mean look at her, but also good lord, have you seen their Warden like lock me up anytime hello-
@belovedbow
Bow’s art just makes me so soft and gooey inside I dunno. Their art is so pretty, and they always have the most expressive faces. Not to mention the colors- like, Bow uses the simplest but most emotionally evocative shades of pinks and blues that make me inexplicably feel things, and I love it. Highlights: Literally all their Davey/Angel is the sweetest, but I also have this deep fondness for their imp!FL and Vindemiator pieces, because look at these deep, mournful blues, they’re beautiful!
@cascadiiing: they/them
Atlas creates the most beautiful, squishable, smoochable characters on top of being the most beautiful, squishable, smoochable (platonic) sweetie in existence~ they’re so sweet and friendly on top of being so talented at such a young age, and I would protect them with my life. Highlights: Their Sam kind of makes me so lovesick, I could barf- he’s just that pretty. Their Alexis/Christian art is fanart of my own fic, I’ll grant you, but it’s also so fucking pretty look at the dreamy colors and it MOVES-
@claracatlady
Where would we be without Clara, like honestly- What really stands out about their art is- other than the overwhelming talent- the obvious thought and joy that went into designing the outfits. Only the best from our resident fashion design student! Highlights: literally everything. If I must be specific, the David design pinned to their blog is utterly ahdhkakshdjsk, and I am particularly partial to their Alexis design, because I love my beautiful, possibly complex lady okay-
@fregget-frou : he/they
Mal has the prettiest Listeners; I’m lowkey in love with all of them~ I love the way he does such fluffy, voluminous hair, and I dunno, all their listener OC’s have this fashion model-esque glamour and posture about them that’s really attractive. Highlights: Of their listeners, Mal’s Angel has got to be my favorite. Look at this fluffy-haired cutie! Look at this menace! I would also propose to them, they’re gorgeous!
@gwenifred: she/her
Gwen draws the most gorgeous, swoon-worthy Huxleys and is just a big sweetpea to boot. Her and Pali sharing OC’s and art trades here and on Twitter is a testament to how friendly and sweet the fandom can be! Highlights: Everything she draws is gorgeous, but you haven’t lived until you’ve seen her animation work!
@ice-palace-art: They/It/He/Dae
Darby has some of the most beautiful designs, I can hardly stand it. He creates the most gorgeous, realistically proportioned characters and listeners, and they’re just really smoochable okay let me live- Highlights: It has this one piece of Gavin and Lasko having a sleepover that fills me with the warm fuzzies every time I see it, and their Aaron design fills me with longing I am hopelessly in love with their dad-bodded Aaron.
@itsdaifuku: she/her
Y’all don’t even know the little happy stim storm Fuku’s art sets me on; like, all her art is so cute and joyful and somehow colorful even when it’s in black and white? It just gives the vibe of life and vibrancy constantly? How does she do that? Highlights: Literally, everything she draws is gorgeous and sweet, though her designs for the Shaws and their mates are so S-tier and so cute. (I’m also particularly fond of her designs for Love and Alexis, my favorite characters, I’m biased, sue me)
@mr-laveau: he/they
Laveau, my favorite Milo kinnie~ (Yeah, I said it out loud; I’m callin you out.) Charming, thoughtful, friendly, much more talented than they have any right to be when they’re also so funny and sweet, AND also writing at their other blog @bratty-telepath. You’ve never seen such a double threat. Highlights: Literally, everything he makes. All his designs are colorful and gorgeous and filled to the brim with deliberate, intentional details (though I am incredibly partial to their Alexis and Darlin designs and the parallels he included between them.)
@nais-doodles
Nai is a fucking blessing unto this fandom, and we are not worthy. You haven’t really lived, haven’t experienced all the pure, positive silliness that this hellsite has to offer until you experience Nai’s Redacted Actor AU. It’s pure serotonin, and we’re all here listening to Boyfriend ASMR, I know we could use it. Highlights: Other than said AU posts (which really are so fuckin good), have you seen their drawing of Vincent and Sam’s Monarchal ball? Ooh, and if you go to their tiktok under the same username, you can see some of the really cool dating sim they’re working on!
@nanowatzophina: any pronouns
Na’no is not only a must follow on tumblr, but I also highly recommend their tiktok if you wish to wade through the horrid cesspool of that app (I say with tiktok as one of my top social media sites- we have a codependent relationship) Their art is super cute and expressive, and I get massive gender envy from the way he draws hair and teeth. Highlights: Her aspec Freelancer is just so close to my heart; I adore Avery so deeply. Also, the way they draw imperium!Vega and Pet makes my heart fucking melt and want to jump out my chest- the size difference, my god
@obsessivedino: they/them
Mint’s contribution to the fandom cannot possibly be overstated. Their art style is just so clean and neat and with the cutest expressions, and I love their designs so much, especially for the d(a)emon bois I just ahhhhh Highlights: If you’ve joined the official unofficial Redacted Discord server, you’ve seen their adorable stickers reminding you to kick that ass or hydrate unless you want to die-drate, and you haven’t truly embraced life unless you’ve seen their two-year anniversary masterpiece. Ooh, or pocket caelum!
@palilious: she/her
There is no Redacted fandom or fandom list without Pali, and we’ve all accepted that. Her style is so uniquely and instantaneously recognizable as hers, and everyone adores it, including but not limited to GBA, Nomad, and Cardlin! Highlights: Literally everyone she draws is so pretty, though I have a soft spot for her Vincent or her Nomad drawings if you’re looking for more VAs to listen to!
@pearl-kite: she/they
Kirehn has the most huggable humans and the most awe-inspiring d(a)emons. The way she draws the d(a)emons with constellations worked into the designs and color palettes is just so gorgeous and purposeful and thoughtful. Highlights: Their Vega is so frightening but beautiful, you just can’t look away from him. I’m also particularly in love with their Darlin!
@queendread
Do y’all ever do this thing when you see an ethereally beautiful person and you have no words, all you can do is giggle like a vapid schoolgirl(gn)? That’s me with all of Anna’s paintings: no words, just awe. Highlights: I don’t even really like Gavin, okay, he’s not my type, but lord above, Anna’s Gavin is something else. Their Sam also has those Captain America, boy next door good looks I imagined, it’s like they took him right out of my daydreams.
@ryokoaoi : they/them
Ryo has the absolute cutest, most adorable art style, one can barely handle it! Everything they draw is just so pretty and so colorful and detailed and sweet. (Except the sad things, those are less sweet but gosh they’re still so pretty.) They also have this Magic Swap AU that they design that is so fun to read about! Highlights: Their swapped! Gavin and Avior designs are so fun, I adore them deeply, and if you need something to cheer you up, you can always depend on their DAMN pieces that always include a little invisible Caelum to bring you joy~!
@slushrottweiler: she-they
There is nothing like seeing Slush’s signature blue linework on your dashboard, it’s such a sweet treat- or spicy. There are also very good, very spicy treats. Her blog is a magnificent roulette wheel of blue surprises. Highlights: I love their Sam/Darlin stuff, especially this one because wowee them shoulderblades, but their HuxDami BA piece takes the cake.
@spookybeandoodle
Spooky has my whole heart and wallet and my other heart if I had one I fell in love with their rich color palettes and shading and Alexis right away and had to commission them. Could not recommend enough, they were a treasure to work with~ Highlights: I’m not biased- okay yes I am but not now their Alexis is fuckin smoking hot but also their Cam might be my favorite Cam look at that smile-!
@sri-rachaa: she/her
Rae is such a treasure to this fandom, we hardly deserve her. Her art is so ethereally pretty and delicate? The way she draws hair and noses and silhouettes- her line work is just phenomenal. Everything she creates is just a delight to look at. Highlights: The Southern Siblings AU is a gift, a treasure, a boon that cannot be ignored. I’m also a big fan of her Lovely OC who is ridiculously pretty~
@tankwolf : she/her
June has been posting fanart for only two months, but I’m already absolutely obsessed. I just find her monochrome character portraits so visually engaging and interesting. I would love so badly to be friends with her listener OC’s… Highlights: …or more than friends, because her Sweetheart is something else good lord. I would just love it if June could stop putting the hot people in crop tops please (but also don’t cause whoa)
@terrazaurio
All the fanart Terra creates is so bright and vivid and colorful and expressive, they’re really such a treat to see and experience. I’m a sucker for the colors they use, cause it makes my lizard brain all happy and go “shiny pretty happy.” Highlights: Everything they draw with the Shaw Pack is pure dopamine, like this one of the bois and their mates hanging by the pool. I am particularly attached to this piece from Milo’s HBS, because they’re so fucking in love, your honor, I love them.
@thefablefoxart : she/her
Angelina’s Redacted couple series is one of the truest delights of the fandom; like, they’re so colorful and cute and just adorably designed. I’m also deeply in love with the way she does hair. Everyone just has really fucking good looking hair, and I can’t get over it-Highlights: On top of the aforementioned couple series, I just want to bring attention to this adorable chibi Sam that she drew- it brings me so much serotonin- and their Darlin, Kai who I wish would just give me a shot okay I have a Southern accent too-
If you’re reading all the way here, I hope you found the post helpful and smiled while making your way through it! Or both! The RedactedAudio fandom is truly one of my favorite spaces on the internet; it’s so intimate and creative, and I’ve found some amazing, perfect friends here, so I hope you will too 💖
again playing around with the formatting please stop hurting me tumblr I’m trying to be nice
If you can see this, I love you, and you’re watching me try to format this post so tumblr doesn’t cut off the bottom of it please ignore the Android behind the emerald curtain go about your day

words: 4747 notes: HI FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELLO. uni is finally no longer kicking my ass, so here is a pythia update! since it's been an embarrassing amount of time since I last posted, i rly wanted to get something out for u guys - and as a result this chapter is shorter than what I'd like, but I hope still fun and silly ;) thank you so much for holding on with me and i can't wait to hear your thoughts! p.s - sam and dean are extra sweet this chapter bc i want all of u to love me again >:)
PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA - Dec. 3rd, midday.
George Phelps was Max’s passenger, and, among other things, a loving and committed husband. He lived in a quaint little house in the suburbs, where his wife put his picture on the mantle and refused to say much to you. She didn’t have to. Just looking up at their house from the curb, decorated with soft glowing Christmas lights and silver crosses, you knew George Phelps wasn’t your guy. Maybe Max had seen him pry open the emergency exit on the flight, but you seriously doubted a dentist with acid reflux was behind the deaths of two hundred people.
Sitting in George’s living room and speaking with his wife, you swore that there was almost something there, but it was neutral enough that you doubted it was anything more than the wisps of George’s presence in the house. Fresh grief always felt the same.
You didn’t like how this hunt had been gnawing on you. The visions always itched you in their own way, but this time was distinctly, uncomfortably different, and you just couldn’t pin down why. It was your job to take the weird inclinations the Gift gave you and turn them into something usable. Somehow, you couldn’t even manage that.
You were the first one out of George Phelp’s stifling house and the first one into the Impala. In the safety of the backseat, you curled your nails into the upholstery until your fingers hurt and just felt. What were you missing? What were you recognizing, but failing to remember?
The thing you were hunting was big game. You’d had hundred-year-old vengeful spirits in your head, and they couldn’t even glimpse the kind of hatred you were dealing with here. It affected audio recordings, had loads of strength, and took a metal bat to your Gift every time you even thought about it. Somehow, it manifested with or connected to normal people. None of this rung any bells with you. Which was ridiculous, since it felt more and more familiar the longer you rolled your vision over in your mind—beyond close, like it was within arm’s reach.
Sam, in the Impala’s passenger seat, started giving you cautious looks in the rear-view. Dean had been halfway through griping about this case when Sam finally spoke his mind: “____… What exactly did you see in your vision?”
Both of the boys shared a furtive glance, then turned to look at you as one.
You must’ve shown the panic you were feeling on your face, because Dean’s clammed up with awkward sympathy. “...I know this one was tougher n’ usual, but I need you to buck up a bit, okay? This thing’s got nothing on you. C’mon.”
When you frowned, there was a bitter tang growing on the back of your tongue. You weren’t six. You didn’t need someone to coax your nightmares from you, and you definitely didn’t need anyone telling you to put your big girl pants on. Dean didn’t have to ask Sam to toughen up, even four years off his game, and you doubted he ever told himself to. Grr.
“Just start driving,” you gruffed, and failed to stop your lip from curling.
The arm Dean had hung over the front seat slouched into his lap. “...Sure thing. What’d you see?”
He turned the key and got you on the road again, joined, right on cue, by Sam’s kicked-puppy look swaying back to the windshield. You reminded yourself that the only reason you were pissed was because of how awful these last few days had been, and explained yourself.
“It was intense. Way more intense than most visions I’ve had. Not because of anything I saw—though the crash was… awful—but because of the feeling it gave me. Even when I got out of it… it just filled my head, I guess. This thing has a seriously powerful influence.”
Sam’s brows furrowed. “Did you see it at all?”
“I don’t know,” you admitted, reminded again of how little you were helping. “Most of it was just flashes of the passengers. The plane going down. Before that, I saw a man’s hand grab the handle to the emergency door, the pilots talking about a flight out of Pittsburg, and then smoke. Loads of it.”
The car sunk into a heavy, thought-honed silence that only served to ramp up to your anxiety. You kept the case on your mind for all of two seconds, then were pulled to the ceaseless clicking of Dean’s turn signal and how scratchy your bandages were. Your suit sat too stiff on your body for you to relax into your seat, squeezing your empty belly in the worst way and chaffing on Baby’s leather. The cold air was too dry and your eyes and throat burned with the strangest pressure. Not a sick pressure, but a living one, pressing in. Black smoke. Your pain meds were wearing off too, so the sinew in your body felt taut and worn on an unfamiliar skeleton.
You stared dead-eyed at nothing for a minute longer, then Dean hauled the Impala up to the curb again and declared: “Fuck it. We’re getting lunch. What are you in the mood for, baby?”
“That’s a weird way to say the car needs gas, Dean,” you managed.
“No—not her-Baby, you baby!” Dean flushed, and honestly, he deserved some serious points for scrounging up any humor right now. Again, he tossed an elbow over the seat and threw a dazzling, morale-boosting grin at you. “What do you want to eat, darlin’? We can go to a sit-down place, have an actual meal. Or we can just grab something from the store. Anything.”
You hesitated to answer, and caught Sam’s grimace—you were way too poor right now to go for anything beyond instant noodles. “...We can wait til’ later, Dean. I don’t really have an appetite right now,” you lied.
Dean never begged, but forever reason he was willing to today. Maybe you seemed even worse off than you’d thought. “...C’mon, kid, you’re killing me here. Whatever you want. My treat.”
Again, you didn’t jump at the chance to answer. Truth be told, you could eat a grocery store whole right now, but the three of you did not have the budget. Dean was insane and devoted enough to steal lunch for you, too, and you didn’t feel like bailing him out of jail right now. Just the idea made your wallet tear up.
You opened your mouth to try and be realistic, only for Sam to interrupt you.
“Ice cream,” he read your mind. “She wants ice cream. The big grocery store tubs.”
Dean didn’t wait for any objections. He whipped the Impala out of park, jerked back into your lane, and peeled away toward the nearest store. “Ice cream! Hell yeah. I could fuck up some cherry garcia right now. Sam? Could you fuck up some ice cream right now?”
“Me? Oh, big time,” he lied, catching your eyes in the rearview again. You’d maybe seen Sam eat ice cream twice in your entire life. Again, he was probably hiding that he was lactose intolerant.
You had only a sliver of fight left within you. “Boys…”
“Yes?” They chimed. In their own ways, their voices dared you to resist, but the combined power of both Winchesters was too strong to withstand.
You bit down your grin and fell silent.
A few minutes later, Dean pulled into a thirty-year-old mini-mart that looked it’s age. Of course, he parked the Impala as far from the other cars as possible, so the mile-long walk through freezing, finger-numbing winds put everyone in the mood for ice cold ice cream. The first euphoric rush of interior heating made you sigh out loud. When Sam and Dean had swiped the snow off their blazers, you made an attempt at leading them toward another toastier, cheaper snack.
“You want ice cream,” was all Sam said, shrugging, and scooped up a basket for the three of you to use.
Either you were predictable or he could read minds, because even with the snowy weather you were more than ready to fuck up some ice cream. Just thinking about it made your bandages feel less scratchy. Lounging on the couch and plowing through a tub was a privilege the road really didn’t allow, so you were pretty sure you hadn’t even had any ice cream since October. Since you’d actually lived in your apartment.
“How did you know?” You asked him, out of honest curiosity.
Sam gave you a mysterious smile instead of an answer, swiped some snow off your jacket, then tilted his head after Dean in an unspoken come on. His brother had already caught the scent of the frozen treats section, so you both hurried to catch up with him. You stole glimpses of Sam as you wove your way to the back of the store. He was a little taller than the aisles, and his loafers cleared the age-stained linoleum in half the time your heels did. For whatever reason this is when your heart decides to remind you how absolutely spellbound you are by him. He takes a turn around an endcap of Little Debbies to find Dean, and you float right after him, orbited by cartoon hearts.
Maybe that’s intentional on Sam’s part, since you forget all about money and budgets right up until you’re staring down the row of smudged freezer doors. Dean’s already hefting his tub of cherry garcia overhead when you approach, and after a lot of fake stadium-cheering and whooping, he free-throws it with a perfect swish into Sam’s basket. Then, he slides aside and unveils the mini-mart’s slim selection of ice creams to you. Unfortunately, you’ve been trained from birth to think Dean’s funny, so you bite down on your cheek-aching grin and take a look.
“I dunno…” you say, even though you’ve already come this far. The math is starting to stack in your head. One tub is fine, but one for each of you builds up, and that cuts into real food money and motel money and gas money and—
“How about this,” Sam interrupts your mounting anxiety, voice smooth and anticipatory. “Dean gets his and then you and I get one to share. Sound good?”
You thank him with a small smile, imagining the face he’d make if you yanked him down by the lapels and kissed him for knowing you so well. Sam was a great kisser.
“That’d be perfect.”
Instead of going for your favorite, you swipe the dairy-free cookies and cream.
Dean shoos Sam further down the aisle, and his brother props up the basket like a hoop and starts serpentining between the frozen pizzas, the two of them beaming like rowdy middle school boys. You turn your tub over in your hand and line up your shot. Dean’s taunting and pinching is ultimately fruitless—the victory grin is already comfortable on your face when your ice cream swishes flawlessly into Sam’s basket. Sam whoops.
“Not bad, Slayer,” Dean approves. He gives your shoulder a playful budge, and you budge him right back on the way to the registers.
With your bad mood successfully thawed, you’re easy to distract while Dean sneaks away to (hopefully) pay for your plunder. One minute you’re in line with them, and in the next Sam is coaxing you away to poke around the value movie bin, hypnotizing you with a few well-placed, dimply grins. You forget altogether that ice cream costs money. You’re only just remembering what money is when Dean reappears, shoving a receipt in his pocket and jabbing a thumb toward the bakery.
“Cashier lady said they got spoons over there,” Dean explained.
You paused. “Don’t we have, like, a gazillion in the car?”
“You mean the car with the heater that takes ten years to start?” Dean sassed back, which instantly dissolved into one of his cheesy, goading grins. He started to rifle through the grocery bag for his flavor, half-walking and half-wrestling with it. “We’ll eat in here. Don’t worry about it.”
Somehow, you didn’t worry about it. Dean cracked jokes about adult freedoms and whole sleeves of raw cookie dough, Sam rubbed his belly like just the thought made him nauseous, and you giggled at every little thing they did. You were still laughing when Sam parked you by one of the bakery’s vents, the two of you crowded close to get as much warm bread fog as possible. Dean went over and bartered for three plastic spoons. The whole time he stole glances at you loudly giggling with his brother, and patted himself on the back for his job well done.
Dean wiggled closer to you both to be under the warmth of the vent. Now equipped with a way to get this ice cream into your ice-cream-ready belly, you borrowed Sam’s pocket knife to shred the plastic seperating you from your treasure. There wasn’t really a contactless way to hold the tub between you both. While Dean ravaged his cherry garcia, you and Sam tried, and failed, to preserve your personal space, only to lazily gravitate closer to each other with the first glorious spoonfuls of cookie-dough. The first bite balmed your sore throat and your sensitive burns. It was sweeter than you were expecting for dairy-free ice cream, but the surprise was welcome.
Dean stabbed his spoon into his cherry garcia. Then, he gave you another welcome surprise. He dropped his hand in your hair, smoothing it back, and asked around a mouthful of cherry flavoring, “Good?”
You couldn’t help but beam. “Yeah. I’m good.”

NTSB EVIDENCE WAREHOUSE, PENNSYLVANIA - Dec. 3rd, midday.
The next step in your investigation, naturally, was to break into a government warehouse, slip past security undetected, and hopefully learn something useful from the wreckage without being caught. No amount of ice cream could make that easy, but you couldn’t let your anxiety get in the way. The heart attacks you had showing your fake badge to the security guards were nausea-inducing, but the overpowering psychic weight of a disaster this fatal was going to be a thousand times worse. You steeled yourself.
Before you’d been a hunter, you’d come from a long line of spiritualists and occultists who made death their livelihood. They communicated with the spirit world, they studied life after death, they made the passing of old souls easier. Even before your Gift opened up you’d had similar connections to death. Beth, eyes gleaming with pride, used to tell stories about you at four, talking to the darkness of the attic’s crawlspace like there was someone there. Dean got head to toe heebie-jeebies when you brought that up, but a connection to the other side at such a young age was a Proctor mark of pride. The first time you’d ever seen an apparition had been celebrated as a milestone of womanhood. Death was your older sister, so you shouldn’t have been afraid of her.
You’d sensed her just a few miles out from the warehouse. It was gentle at first, seeping into your ears like a shift in air pressure, then gradually filling up your other senses. But over two hundred real living people—people who loved and were loved like you loved Sam and Dean—had died in that crash, so in no time you were squeezing your eyes shut and plugging your nose in the backseat. You felt Death every day in small doses. In Sam, restlessly watching the ceiling of your rooms at night, in your motorcycle, in the graves you dug up and the homes you questioned civilians in. Your sister sat beside you in the back of the Impala every day.
But two hundred whole people. You dug the nails of your right fist into your palm until it burned, thinking, desperately, about ice cream.
The closer you came to the scene, the more overwhelming the sense of death became. You were almost swaying on your feet flashing your badge at the security desk, who, of course, have to remind everyone of how useless you are.
“FBI? Don’t you guys usually work in pairs?”
Sam gave a tight smile. “She’s our aircraft specialist, thank you.”
A security clerk from the main office drove you out to the right hangar on a golf cart. Dean laid his action movie smolder a bit thick on the guy, but he at least could’ve passed as a trainee. By comparison, Sam at twenty-two and you at twenty-four were round-faced babies, too young to play agents on TV, nevermind in real life. The two of you squished together on the back bench of the cart and sat ramrod straight the whole ride, refusing to turn around. The less people who could remember your faces, the better.
When the warehouse was unlocked and the three of you were inside, your sister struck.
There was so much death. Great mouthfuls, lungfuls, chestfuls of it in the air, diffusing through your nose every time you breathed. You gagged on the psychic taste of it until your eyes watered.
A smarter person would’ve stayed in the safe bubble between Sam and Dean, but you’re done being babied. You break ranks the first chance you get. While the boys take slow steps around the perimeter of the wreckage, you gravitate toward the split-open center of the fuselage. All that remains of the plane’s body are a few rows of seating, gutted curves of scrap, and long tangles of roasted wires. There was so little left that you had room to walk through the middle, down the same path the passengers had taken to board.
When the ringing in your ears was too loud to hear over and you felt like a massive fist had closed around your chest, you stopped. Reached out. Felt, beyond the veil, the mark of the thing that had done this. It hung over this warehouse like a funeral shroud, but you felt it first through its spider web, which kept the last impressions of over two-hundred different people tethered to this place by invisible strands. None of the people—the spirits from the crash had manifested yet, but every living thing left an impression of itself behind. A footprint.
You pulled at different strands of the spider’s web for a while, sorting through the last memories of those on the plane for something useful. It was just as terrible as you’d expect. Mothers held their children, husbands clutched their wives, everyone wailed and screamed. This many people should’ve made up a whole nebula of different feelings, but instead you sensed just one: absolute, incalculable terror. With every passing moment the fear pressed in closer, but you ignored it. You pushed yourself deeper. Max Jaffey gasped into his oxygen mask. The seat in front of him was empty, and he was looking at someone—you reached and reached—across the aisle, a man sobbed and pressed his girlfriend’s trembling hand into his heart—you were going to die you were all going to die—
You’re ripped out of the swarm of memories.
For the millionth fucking time, you come out of the vision on your ass with the boys hovering over you. You’re slow to remember where you are and what’s going on, but the shame is there waiting for you, like always.
“—okay, just breathe, you’re okay—” Sam is telling you, soft and unbelievably patient, considering the number of times he’s had to do this.
His heart is full-on pounding like it’s gonna punch right out of his chest, and you wonder why you know that until you glance down. He’s got your wrist fished in his hand, pressing your palm to flat to the crisp chest of his suit, and it’s just plain embarrassing at this point how much it pulls you back to earth. Your dignity wants you to rip yourself away from him, but, luckily, Dean does it for you. He pushes Sam back and kicks a box of wires neatly between you, just in time for his premonition to come true: your twisting stomach makes its move, and you promptly throw up into the box like a sick toddler in a ball pit. Dean could always tell.
“Touchdown,” he winces.
This is it. You’ve reached the final level of humiliation you can stand. No matter how hard you try, every pathetic dive you’ve made to be useful to the Winchesters has ended with your face in the mud. You can’t even wipe your face right. Sam ends up doing it for you with his sleeve, and sighs, out loud, just to add insult to injury: “Poor baby.”
PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA - Dec. 3rd, evening.
Two hours later, you’re back in the motel, sitting criss-cross at the end of Dean’s bed and contemplating what color you’re going to dye your hair. You’ve already landed on what your new legal name will be—Elizabeth Ripley. Elizabeth as in Pride and Prejudice and Ripley as in Alien. Sam would appreciate a Jane Austen reference and Dean would appreciate anything Alien related, so everyone would be happy.
You’re not sure where this plan to change your name and face came from. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that, after you gracefully threw up everywhere and failed to learn anything new about the case, the real FBI showed up. Like. Real, gun-slinging, tie-wearing FBI agents. And they may or may not have chased you out of the warehouse. (Which you would’ve seen coming, by the way, if you hadn’t royally exhausted your powers). Just in case all that was enough—while you were off being useless, Sam and Dean got a potential sample from your mystery monster. An actual workable lead.
Fucking great.
The two of them are deciding what to do with you. If you were to look beyond the lens of your self-hatred for a moment, it’s more likely that the boys are worried about you and trying to figure this out. But you feel embarrassed and gross and unhelpful, so you strain to pick up every word you can and glare a new hole into the wall. They’re going to tell you to stay behind. Well that, at least, is something you can beat them to.
Ever since you were little, the three of you had a very special rhythm together. Sam was the mind and Dean was the heart and you were the subconscious. Each of you was important, and though you could work on your own, you were so, so much better as a system. With you sending out fucked-up signals, the two of them would be down a crucial piece.
Whatever. They’d probably function just fine without you on this one.
Of course, Dean sics his little peacekeeper on you. The door clicks open. You smear the last of your frustrated tears on your sleeve and talk before Sam can say anything: “Hey, is it okay if you guys take that sample to Jerry without me? It’d probably be good for us to get a leg up on research, and you guys don’t exactly need me there.”
Sam comes toward you, his voice extra soft and placating. Since, y’know, you’re a shitty timebomb that needs to be handled with kid gloves. “...Alright. That’s a good idea. That’d help out a lot.”
He says that specifically because he knows you feel unhelpful. He gives you those dewy, understanding Sam eyes and puts his big Sam hand on your shoulder, and all it does is piss you off. You hate how easily he can read you, and how much you want to listen to him. None of this should be such a big fucking deal. You’re twenty-four—you should have a handle on your Gift by now. Sam’s been back at this for, what? Two months? Nobody’s treating him like he can’t handle the pressure. He’s not being haunted by visions twenty-four-fucking-seven or dealing with stupid burns or—or being creeped on by random hunters! Or throwing up at crime scenes!
Your eyes start to burn. You glare harder at the wall, and force yourself not to take this out on him.
Sam’s hand goes to move off your shoulder, but something changes his mind and he keeps it there for another lingering moment. “Look at me a second.”
You force yourself to look at his face. As mad as you are, the boy-crazy teenage girl in your head gets one look at him and squeals into her pillow.
“Go easy on yourself,” he says, softer than before. “Really. Nobody’s built for this kind of thing.”
You want to scream. Me! I am! I’m built for this! But you’re not a teenager anymore, so you compose yourself, sigh, and tell him, “...I’ll try.”
Instead of getting up, Sam stares at you for a long beat. There’s something in his eyes you can’t describe, and his hand is still on your shoulder, tethering the two of you to each other. Your mental teenage girl is about to succumb to romantic psychosis when Sam’s greenish eyes find something else to look at, and he passes you something from his pocket.
He mutters something like feel better and gets up, leaving you with a shard of metal about as long as one of your fingers. He doesn’t explain what it is to you. He doesn’t tell you what to do with it. Because you’re a hunter, dammit, and Sam knows you can handle yourself. His warm, calloused palm slips off your shoulder and you get the impression that he was never using any kid gloves with you to begin with.
Sam leaves. You stare at the shard as the Impala slinks out of the parking lot. Just by touch, you know it’s a piece of flight 2485’s fuselage.
…You do as Sam asked, and go easy on yourself. After a shower, a little teeth-brushing, and a lot of mints, you’re feeling way less gross and a lot more like a hunter. The whole time you pour through research on your laptop, you rub the shard of flight 2485 between your fingers and sort through what this thing could be. Inhuman strength. Uses a vessel. Black eyes. Black smoke.
Nobody’s built for this kind of thing, Sam had said, and he’d been wrong. You’d been honing this Gift before you’d even known you’d had it. Most of your life had been spent learning every kind of divination under the sun, so there was no way this thing could hide from you.
You started easy, reading the shard through psychometry. The nauseous feeling rose up inside you again, and again, you heeded Sam’s warning and chose to push away from it. You tried numerology, which felt like a push in the right direction; 2458 wasn’t relevant, and though 7 survivors could mean something interesting (luck, the union of the physical and the spiritual, yadda yadda), your gut told you it was something else. The plane crashed 40 minutes in. Biblical numerology, maybe? Promising. But also potentially terrifying.
When your bone casting read felt flat and uninspired, you defaulted to the simplest method you could think of. Tarot.
The first time you’d seen an apparition, your mom had scooped you up into a massive hug and paraded you around the house, declaring to the spirits of the underworld that a new heavyweight champ had entered the ring. (This became a lot funnier the older you got). You were bought ice cream and root beer and told in a thousand ways, subtle and unsubtle, that this was a good thing. One of the ways Beth convinced you was with her childhood tarot deck, which she’d gifted you that day.
You turned the cards over in your hands, imbuing the worn-smooth texture of the paper with the feelings from your vision. The first card you pulled was done on nothing but pure instinct. And the second. By the third, you shuffled the deck as thoroughly as possible, but the answer was still the same every single time. You’d never pulled the same exact card three times. All at once, things pulled together—the overwhelming sense of evil, the human host, the numerology, the way it sucked up death like a goddamn sponge—no survivors, it’d said on the EVP. Holy shit.
You were dialing Dean’s number the second you set the card down. He answered on the second ring, and spoke at the exact same time as you—
“It’s a demon."
Underneath the illustration were two blemished words. The Devil.

before the new year begins — tag game
happy new year, everyone! i've been doing a lot of journaling lately and i came across the written version of this tag from @madamescarlette on the dash and thought i'd give it a try just because i've been practicing more reflection these past few days.
tagging: @petrichor-han, @mosviqu, @straykats, and anyone who'd like to look back on 2024 🤍
share your favorite memory of this year.
off the top of my head, my favorite thing to recall was when i confronted this girl who spearheaded making rumors and talking shit about me and my friend group (mind you, we're college seniors). singlehandedly, one of my most empowering moments. other pleasant memories include campfires and hangouts by the sea across various friend groups, leaping together in joy when we passed our integrated subjects, trying our best not to laugh too loud in the office, and of course, graduating.
2. what was the highlight of your year?
finally getting my degree in accountancy. tough course :') would not recommend :') walked out with two mental illnesses, banger degree ender!
3. list the top five books you read this year.
sit down, this will be a long one. right off the bat, read last january, there is no antimemetics division by sam hughes (qntm), which put me in a crazy mental loop that just made me more immersed into the story than i already was. pet sematary by stephen king, my first step into horror and definitely not my last. there's genuinely nothing i like more than cosmic/domestic horror. this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone, which has everything i truly want in a book—good writing, gays, pining, and time travel. hollow city and library of souls by ransom riggs, which are the 2nd and 3rd books of the miss peregrine's home for peculiar children series. truly, the only books that mattered. the whole thing could've been a banger trilogy bc of them idc idc. i wish i read more than i did this year, but i did my best given how busy i was.
4. list the top five movies you watched this year.
i watched chicago because of the trendy 'we both reached for the gun audio' but i ended up enjoying it far more than i anticipated. a uniquely formatted film musical, banger plot (with social commentary undertones) and banger songs. then i headed into wicked blindly and cried my eyes out with a friend at the cinema. beautiful story between two friends, banger cast and banger songs as well, and just the visuals of the movie were just stunning! all quiet on the western front, a devastating depiction of just how brutal war is. almost a 5/5, if it weren't for the shock factor ending. barbie because it wasn't what i expected a barbie live adaptation to be. it got across what a barbie cartoon movie would normally get across to kids to us adults in the real world. banger monologue, cried my eyes out in my room. cruella, though i watched it too early in the year to recall its impact fully. she was fabulous! i support women's rights and women's wrongs!
5. list the top five tv series you binged this year.
none. sorry, my attention span was just nowhere this year.
6. what is the one new thing you discovered this year (could be a place/hobby/song etc)?
hmm, i discovered that, though it shouldn't come as a surprise, i actually do like journaling and it really does help me in ways i thought it didn't before. i was always so pressured by the aesthetic standards around journaling that it just deterred me from utilizing it for what it was originally meant to be. now i just throw up words onto paper and pray for relief afterwards (which normally happens now!)
7. top three albums that you played this year?
preacher's daughter by ethel cain, the tortured poets department: anthology by taylor swift, and golden age by ethel cain. ethel taking 2 of the 3 spots in justified. i never did shut up about her and i just put her albums on loop in the background for hours while i was playing.
8. your spotify wrapped #1 song
it says good luck babe by chappell roan but i beg to differ. it doesn't say so on other sites like receiptify/volt.fm nor do i feel like i played it enough for it to land first this year. good song tho!
9. your spotify wrapped top artist
i think it was taylor swift? on another site, i have ethel cain which is honestly more accurate.
10. your personal song of the year.
a house in nebraska by ethel cain *sad pole dancing*
11. what is an achievement that you are proud of this year?
again, graduating. it's such a huge milestone in my life that i just can't undermine it. it means so much to me and reaching it lifted a lot of weight off my chest.
12. what are your goals for the next year?
to focus on the other aspects in my life that i neglected in the past few years such as family relationships, mental and physical health, self-improvement outside of academics, etc.
13. any three book releases you are excited for next year.
i'm not really one to look forward to releases but maybe the new hunger games book if its coming out this year. haymitch's story?
14. any three upcoming movies/tv series that you are excited for next year.
again, not one to look forward to movies. i literally had to look these up just to recall but: wicked 2, of course, and the minecraft movie for the hell of it. that's about it.
15. if you could change one thing about the past year what would it be?
i wish i took on more opportunities instead of letting them pass me by.
16. did you manage to stick to your new year's resolutions this year?
my life was too much of a whirlwind for me to even have a new year's resolution at the time. i was anxious and probably depressed and i just kept telling myself, "just one more year and it'll all be over".
17. do you have any new year's resolutions for the next year?
my new year's resolution is to just practice putting myself first and alleviating the pressure i've been unknowingly putting on myself since day one very many years ago.
18. favorite meme of the year?
i think i was too out of orbit to pick out a favorite one. i still keep on recycling all the ones i had since high school lol
19. which month was the most fun this year?
was there such a thing? my whole year was characterized by breakdowns and picking academics over the fun things in life. might've been december. i've been unwinding the whole month.
20. what color do you associate the previous year with?
maroon and/or blood red because that was a brutal year.
21. if you could tell yourself something at the beginning of this year based on what you know right now, what would it be?
apply for it. she'll understand when the time comes and she wouldn't live with the same regrets that i do.
22. favorite viral trend of the year?
i honestly have no idea. maybe the korean cheerleaders???
23. list any three new things you learned this year (could be recipes, a new skill, etc.)
memory keeping in the form of scrapbooking, relearning how to cook based on the recipes my parents have, a lot of workplace-related skills lmfao.
24. how would you describe your year in a word?
rollercoaster, every up just had to come with a down and sometimes it made me wish it just flung me off the track.
25. what color do you want to associate the upcoming year with? why?
a dull grey because this might be the year i become a corporate slave in a physically lively but emotionally dead city. tragic.

The Bloody Loom Videos
Okay, okay, this is not a complaint per se. Not like a complaint about the thing. I don’t mind the thing I did. Rather I want to talk to you about a process of making a thing that doesn’t involve the phrase ‘so that was a whole thing.’ I want to provide a detailed, specific account of a thing that I found frustrating to do because I want you to understand it and I want you to benefit from my experience doing it.
Every other week on my Youtube channel, I post a video that is a Lets Play of a videogame with Fox and I providing commentary. We started doing this this year to meet a few needs:
Something for us to share each month
Something that means my Youtube channel gets weekly releases, and see if that impacts the channel growth and how I feel about that
A way to show Fox game things that really don’t translate well to explainers
A way for Fox to explain things she loves about games without needing to do work that stresses her arms
Loom was going to be the first thing we recorded this year as a lets-play video. The experiment was going to be to conduct that kinda lets play and see how we felt about the making. We’d done something like it in the past, and I’d learned some things that didn’t work. Particularly, one of the things that didn’t work was being too fast with the gameplay, ripping through the play experience quickly enough that Fox was left going ‘what?’ Therefore the plan was to involve Fox alongside me and step through and be more responsive.
Tools, tools, tools and process, let’s talk about those. I use the program OBS to record my gameplay footage. I save it as .mkv files, and then use Handbrake to convert it to mp4s to edit in Sony Vegas. Now, at first, what I was doing was using Audacity to record audio, which meant Fox and I were being recorded on a second track that I then integrated with the gameplay footage in Sony Vegas. This created a multi-step process:
Start Audacity
Start OBS
Start the game
Record the gameplay footage entirely
Save OBS output
Save Audacity output
Clean up Audacity output
Clean up OBS output
Put both in Vegas
Sync them to location
Trim out edited bits
Split it into the number of parts necessary
Render those parts
Upload those parts, schedule them
Make a thumbnail and description for those parts
The wall hit for us with our first attempt at Loom that it wouldn’t record. That is, changing priority between applications broke OBS’ ability to follow Loom. If I was recording on OBS, and started Loom it wouldn’t record Loom. If I started Loom and started recording on OBS, it would start recording Loom but it would only do that if I was in there once. If I ever left the Loom instance (such as to start Audacity recording), OBS would ‘lose track’ of Loom.
This was irritating and I am sure, like fox-corn-hen it could be done. But I couldn’t work out how to do it and the entire process could be failure-prone, especially when I needed to make the screens visible for Fox while she could talk to the microphone.
We put that away and did Monkey Island first, instead. That was a more modern game with a Steam-integrated version and handled alt-tabbing. There are things in that video I’m not wild about in this form.
Fast forward to late May, when I started on Loom. Back in March, we had done Sam & Max Hit The Road (one of my great favourite games) and in the process, we tried three things:
I started using OBS to record the commentary audio as well as the game audio
We set up a way for me to stream the gameplay to a second screen so Fox had more options of where to look to follow the game
I started using OBS to record all the media on a screen
This technique was what we used for Legend of Kyrandia 2; Hand of Fate. That worked out, and we also started making ‘bumpers’ in the video – which is, at the end, we recorded our bumpers between each video, and then I got to edit them back in. This worked out to make the Loom recording work much more easily. Just start recording everything, do the commentary on the track, and then edit in Vegas.
Okay, now we are down to one final thing I tried to do to speed things up: Rendering the video once and not twice. What I tried for Loom is to render the two parts of the Lets Play together as one large, long video overnight, then upload it to Youtube twice, and use the Youtube editing studio to trim those two videos. Trim the front off the second one, trim the back off the first one, congrats, two full sized things are now two halves.
Here’s why I don’t think I’ll do that again: The Youtube Studio tool didn’t work.
Not doesn’t work, didn’t work.
I had the exact timestamps for the beginning and end of the trim. But getting Youtube’s interface to use them got a lot of inappropriate results. The first half was easy. Moment 0 to 1:14 (misc). The second half, start at 1:14 and go to the end of the video, 2:20 (misc). Any time you make those changes, Youtube Studio implements them, then reprocesses the video. That means that you make the edit, which is a destructive edit (you can’t undo it if it doesn’t work properly), and then you have to wait 20-40 minutes to see if it worked!
Now, sometimes trying something new gives me a sign of something that almost-worked and then how to make it something that kinda works, and then something that works. Sometimes, like with this, it shows something that was just really hard and didn’t work the way I used it. The amount of time involved for each change was too hard, and the results were sometimes wildly inappropriate and looked like the interface was ignoring the input I was giving it – literally paring the video down to one second, for example.
But that’s okay! Look at all the progress of how to make this thing better! Even things that don’t work out well are things that show us what doesn’t work, and that improves my process.
We don’t have a lot of feedback on these things. We’re trying them out to see if we like doing them, and you know, six games down? I do enjoy them. And you could do something like that reasonably easily, and turn single play sessions into multi-part videos with bumpers and all.
Thanks for reading along, hope this was useful to you!
Check it out on PRESS.exe to see it with images and links!

survey by voicedance16
Name A...
Name yourself: I said this like, seven surveys ago. To make things different, I share my name with a bird and Rihanna’s first name.
Name (one of) your best friend(s): Angela. Sister for life.
Name 3 things in your fridge/freezer: We have a loaf of white bread, a near-empty bottle of Japanese mayonnaise, and a tub of liver.
Name a color you're wearing currently: Pink and orange. I ended up going to the virtual Halloween party at work - went as Dora - and it was a blast. I’m SO glad impersonating our characters didn’t turn out to be mandatory; I just sat there and was happy to be there, lmao.
Name the last thing you ate: A ham sandwich.
Name the last store you went to: Does the vet count? They sell pet food over there, so it’s kind of like a store I guess. I went last weekend because Cooper needed a heartworm test and a couple of shots.
Name the song you're listening to: Nada.
Name the artist of that song: See above.
Name your favorite animal: Dogs! Elephants are a close second.
Name what pets you have, if any: I have two dogs, an aspin and a beagle.
Name the town/state you live in: I won’t give away the city, but I will say Metro Manila is a literal stone’s throw away. I live right at the border.
Name something commonly ordered at Starbucks: Like...in general? I’m not aware of the most common food/drink ordered by other people but if I had to pick a guess, I know frappes are popular among my age group and the age group before us and that java chip is a popular flavor. But if you’re just referring to my usual, I like getting an iced caramel macchiato.
Name the last person you talked to in person: My dad. They gave us a box of Halloween donuts AND cake pops at work today :’) so I just asked my dad if he wanted a donut.
Name the last person you talked to on the phone: Mom. But my last call in general was a Zoom call with the entire company just a few minutes ago for the Halloween party.
Name the current day of the week: Today issss Wednesday.
Name the current month: October.
Name the current time: 6:55 PM.
Name the last movie you watched: I’m Thinking of Ending Things, blech. Need a happier movie to mention.
Name the last book you read: I’ve mentioned it too many times on a lot of recent surveys.
Name a place you've been on vacation: Bali.
Name a place you'd like to go on vacation: I desperately need to go back to Sagada, or at least Tagaytay. I think visitors are already allowed to go to the latter so I’m really eyeing a solo, soul-searching trip soon. As for places I’ve never been to before but would make for interesting vacations, I’d go with Chicago and Marrakesh.
Name 3 things you can see from where you're sitting: I can see an empty mug that used to contain coffee, a box of cake pops, and a purple pen.
Name your favorite musical: Miss Saigon.
Name an animal (any): The first animal that came to mind was dragonfly.
Name a fruit: Avocado, the only bitch in the house that I ever respected.
Name a vegetable: Broccoli, my favorite.
Name a common breakfast food: Where I live, beef tapa.
Name a color: Dandelion.
Name a type of flower: ...Dandelion!
Name a type of tree: Pine. Not that we have any here lol, but it’s the first kind I thought of.
Name a city: Uhh, idk. Let’s go with Seattle.
Name a state: I first thought of Wisconsin because I have a lot of family living there.
Name a country: Let’s go outside of the States and go with Sweden.
Name a continent: Asia.
Name a planet: Mars.
Name a girl's name: Clara. Such a pretty-sounding name.
Name the last person to comment you on Facebook: I haven’t had Facebook in weeks and I genuinely can’t remember from whom I received my last comment before I deactivated.
Name a clothing store/brand: Mango.
Name the last book you got at the library: It’s called History of the Filipino People, written by one of my great-uncles.
Name a restaurant: Max’s, even though their food sucks.
Name a grocery store: SM.
Name an iPhone app: Like, an Apple-exclusive app? I think Keynote is one of them.
Name an actor: Eddie Redmayne! One of my favorites.
Name an actress: Kate Winslet, my biggest crush through and through.
Name a music group: Destiny’s Child.
Name your favorite/lucky number: I don’t have a lucky number, but 4 is my favorite. I don’t have a solid reason for it to be my favorite; it just is.
Name something you've accomplished: Graduating college from my dream school in my (then-)dream degree/course.
Name something you'd like to accomplish: Travel, and travel a lot.
Name someone who makes you laugh: Andi made me smile and chuckle a bit today, so let’s name them.
Name something exciting coming up soon: Nothing too specific, really. But I’m supposed to be receiving my internship cut any day now and it’s gonna be my first salary ever, so that’s pretty exciting :)
Name a song that makes you emotional: 26 by Paramore.
Name one of your pet peeves: People who call without texting or notifying beforehand. Holy fucking shit. A hiring manager did this exact thing to me yesterday and I rejected her call because she did not text first. I honestly have no regrets, and I wouldn’t have been bitter if she stopped pursuing me then.
Name someone you know who is an amazing singer: Hannah, without a doubt.
Name someone who is the same religion as you: JM.
Name a holiday you celebrate: Christmas. I can hardly believe another one is coming up soon.
Name the last 4 digits of your phone number: Uh, no thanks.
Name one of your cousins: Sam.
Name a book you loved when you were younger: I used to really love the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage and I reread the first book, Magyk, more times than I could ever count.
Name a song you loved when you were younger: Big Girls Don’t Cry - Fergie.
Name your favorite movie: Two for the Road.
Name a popular book series: The Hunger Games, even though I never actually read it.
Name a musical instrument: A song played on a solo saxophone...
Name a language: German.
Name what other tabs you have open: On this window, just Bzoink. I just closed a YouTube tab.
Name 3 things on the walls of the room you're in: Audrey Hepburn wall decors, a painting that I’m trying to cover up with post-its to turn it into something positive, and uhhh my aircon is mounted to the wall if that counts lol
Name your house number: I’m not sharing that.
Name your high school: It’s an all-girls Catholic school in my city. I’ve shared the name before but I don’t feel like doing so tonight.
Name your college, if applicable: My college was in mass communication, but I went to university in UP.
Name your middle school: See high school.
name your elementary school Again, see high school.
Name the college you wish you went to/hope to go to: UP.
Name your favorite teacher: My music teacher throughout high school. I don’t like her subject, but I love her.
Name the color of your backpack: I haven’t had to use a backpack in a while but my main one is pink.
Name a dessert: Creme brulee. I don’t memorize which letters have those accent marks and I don’t feel like looking that up right now.
Name a famous landmark: Because I can clearly read the next question, the Statue of Liberty.
Name a place you might go in NYC: I’d go straight to my uncle’s so that he can show me the good spots. He has a lot of cool friends who run their own bars/restaurants in the city so if anyone knows how to have a good time in NYC without having to go to all the big tourist places, it’s him. GOD I can’t wait to go to New York.
Name an inventor: Hedy Lamarr.
Name an article of clothing: Scarves.
Name an ice cream flavor: Mint chocolate chip, yum.
Name a religion: Buddhism.
Name an emotion: Resentment.
Name a room in your house: My bedroom, because that’s where I’m staying in at the moment.
Name a website: Wikipedia.
Name a car: This is pretty vague. A kind of car? Hatchback. Are you looking for a make? Toyota. Or maybe a specific model? Honda Civic. I gotchu.
Name something you need to do today: SLEEP. I should not be awake at 11 PM.
Name someone you admire: Andi.
Name someone you miss: At the moment, nobody.
Name a part of the body: Elbow.
Name the last youtube video you watched: I bawled my eyes out to a video playing the audio to Ben&Ben’s Kathang Isip because that song makes so much goddamn sense and is relatable now. Can’t I just go back to a simpler time when that song was just fun to listen to and wasn’t actually relevant to my life? I hate music sometimes.
Name a quote you love: I don’t have one.

As furious as their little foray amongst Jungkook’s sheets happens to be, it doesn’t take the four boys long to calm down again once Jin begins to threaten them all with a variety of torture methods should one more pillow happen to dare strike his perfect face.
They settle back into playing whatever game it is they were absorbed in before after that, Hoseok swiping a controller from Taehyung to make up for lost time, and though you and Jimin are more caught up in each other than anything else, you still notice Jungkook casting more than one fleeting glance your way.
“All straight forward?” You lean your head on Jimin’s, walking your fingers up and along the buttons of his black shirt. “I’m guessing it was; you’ve come back looking pretty clean.”
“Mm,” Jimin agrees, taking hold of your two fingers and then curling his hand around the entirety of yours, holding it to his chest, “I let Hobi take the lead tonight. The whole thing felt like more hassle than it was worth.”
“Ah,” you smile knowingly, looking over at Hoseok and noting the beaming smile on his face once more, “No wonder he’s in such a good mood then.” The soft tip of Jimin’s nose brushes against your cheek, rubbing back and forth as he tightens his grip on your side, pulling you in closer.
“We’re simple creatures. Love us and keep us well fed and we’re happy.”
“Is that vampire-exclusive, or just men in general?” Jimin laughs, his adorable eyes pressing into a straight line as he does.
“Both, I think.” You grin, knocking your forehead gently into his.
“Any other tips on what makes for a contented Jimin?”
“Hmm…” he muses, tapping his chin in an exaggerated scholarly expression that soon cracks into another smile. He leans in close so that he can speak directly into your ear, squeezing that hand that he’s still holding. “Plenty of sex certainly helps.” You scoff, shoving his chest to push him away with a chuckle, peeking at the others just to check they hadn’t overheard. You’re fairly sure Jin would be scolding you by now if he had.
“I’m already well aware of that,” you tease, lifting an eyebrow at him as he leans closer again, both of his arms settling around your hips as he shifts slightly underneath you.
“Just making sure,” he replies all too innocently, widening his eyes far more than they ever naturally rest, and damn it if he doesn’t look the very definition of cherubic. How’re you ever supposed to resist Jimin when he demonstrates each duality of his personality so well and to such devastating effect? You place a hand on his jaw, rubbing his cheek with your thumb as you lean in to kiss him, your lips already curved into a smile.
You don’t mean to the kiss to be more than a peck, but inevitably it ends up becoming more. It always does with you two. Jimin’s soft tongue brushes against your lips to gain entryway to your mouth, sliding inside as he kisses you sensually, unhurriedly, his hand eventually finding its way to push your hair back from your face and then resting there. A luscious heat starts to kindle deep in your pelvis, a quiet moan slipping from your lips when Jimin encourages your hip back and forth to gently rock you against his lap, just once.
“If you’re gonna fuck, can you maybe not do it in my chair?”
The sound of Jungkook’s voice snaps you out of the little bubble the two of you had created, your cheeks blazing with embarrassment as you quickly pull away from Jimin’s sinful mouth. You’d gotten so caught up that you’d entirely forgotten where you were and who you were with - though from the smirk gracing Jimin’s face you have the feeling he knew exactly what kind of a show you were putting on.
Jungkook’s back to looking like a sullen teenager, his doe eyes rolling as he returns his attention to the game, becoming progressively more irritated by the multitude of inane, nonsensical questions that Jin’s suddenly asking as a means to avoid engaging with any of this.
“Yeah guys, be fair,” Hobi laughs as he addresses you, finding the whole thing more amusing than anything else. “Kookie already has to suffer through the audio - he doesn’t need the visual as well.” You’re momentarily distracted from your embarrassment by confusion, narrowing your eyes at Hoseok questioningly. He tosses his controller into Taehyung’s lap, who’s staring at you and Jimin with that wide-eyed, blank expression that he so often has, and grins devilishly at you. “Didn’t you ever wonder who’s room’s above yours?”
No, you can’t say you ever had, but now you retrace your steps and think about the layout of the house… yep. Jungkook’s bedroom lies almost directly on top of yours and Jimin’s, and now even he’s starting to look embarrassed, his eyes fixed on the screen but sort of unfocused, like he’s looking but not really seeing.
You really think you’ve maxed out on humiliation at this point, your cheeks beetroot red as Jimin chuckles beside you, trying and failing to soothe you by gently rubbing your back, but when Hobi opens his mouth again your shame increases tenfold.
“Ah, daddy, please!” Hoseok pleads in a falsetto tone that’s clearly supposed to mimic your own, screwing up his face in mock pleasure, “Daddy, harder!” Someone please, please, just kill you now.
Mercifully, Jungkook is quick to act. It’s Hobi he hits, though, not you, smacking his forearm into the other’s stomach full force to shut him up, scowling hard. You interrupt Jin’s scandalised gawping by leaning forward from Jimin’s lap and reaching out your palm.
“Jin, a pillow please.” He slowly passes you one, regarding your murderous expression with concern, and once it’s firmly in your grasp you lob it full force at Hobi’s head, smirking when it hits him straight in the face and knocks him back to clonk his head against the wall.
“It’s not nice to kink-shame hyung,” you hear Taehyung murmur as the sufficiently chastised vampire sits up, rubbing the back of his head but still smiling far too widely for your liking.
“Thank you, Tae,” you acknowledge, letting yourself sink back into Jimin’s arms as Taehyung turns those soft brown orbs of his back on you, his gaze so intense that it’s almost like he’s looking right through you.
“Alright, alright,” Hoseok chuckles, backing down and lifting his hands in surrender, “I’m sorry for embarrassing you, beautiful.” He throws in a roguish wink for good measure, one that has you rolling your eyes fondly. It’s not like you could ever stay mad at him for more than five seconds anyway.
“You better be, or else I’ll be forced to disclose a few embarrassing details to Sam, too.”
“Pfft, you don’t have any dirt on me,” Hobi scoffs, his eyes then darting to Jimin nervously, “Does she? ” You’ve never loved Jimin more than when he just shrugs, smiling a secret smile, playing along. You revel in Hoseok’s increasingly anxious expression, giggling as Jimin embraces you again, pulling you into a kiss that remains quick and fleeting this time around.
The topic is swiftly dropped after that, their game recommencing in earnest as you and Jimin watch on, just enjoying your time together whilst it lasts. Not ten minutes later, however, Jungkook huffs heavily and pauses the game, looking over to Taehyung.
“Dude, you suck. If you’re not gonna concentrate then let hyung play again - even he doesn’t get his ass owned ten times in a row.”
“S-sorry,” Tae mumbles, passing the controller into Hobi’s waiting hands and then folding his own neatly in his nap, glancing across the room at you and then looking away, tonguing the corner of his mouth. You’re so busy watching him and wondering what’s wrong that you don’t feel Jimin leaning in to whisper in your ear until the words are already tickling against your skin.
“I think our little display earlier might’ve gotten Tae all hot and bothered, kitten.” He places a kiss on that softest of skin just behind your ear, sending a shiver through you just as Taehyung’s eyes flit back your way, fixing on your lips as they part. “Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed the way he’s been looking at you tonight.”
You feel the rate of your pulse start to escalate as Jimin’s hand that had been lingering on your knee starts to creep upward under his friend’s watchful gaze, every inch he ascends slower than the last, intentionally trying to draw a reaction from Taehyung. It’s working, too; you can see his breathing getting harder even from here.
Of course, Jimin doesn’t actually reach the apex of your thighs. He does squeeze your leg though, hard, chuckling in a way that has goosebumps forming all along your arms.
“Would you like to ask me something?” he questions quietly, your eyes still locked with Taehyung’s save when his are travelling up and down the length of you. You bite your lip and when you do you notice the boy opposite you shift on the bed, his forearm coming to rest across his crotch, pushing down to discourage the erection that’s growing there, you presume.
You turn your head to look at Jimin, a thrill running through you when you see how lustful his expression has become, how heavy his eyelids look above his eyes.
“Can I go play, daddy?” you ask softly, nuzzling your head into the crook of his neck to hide how coy you feel and pressing little, pleading kisses all along his creamy skin. Jimin doesn’t reply but you feel him shift underneath you, and when you look up you see he’s got his phone in his hand. Curious, you watch as he opens up a pre-existing chat between himself and ‘Taetae’ and then dexterously taps out a message with just his thumb.
[Jimin] ‘Not in the mood to game tonight?’
Taehyung’s phone must be on vibrate because although you hear nothing, the blonde-haired vampire is suddenly reaching into his pocket to fetch out his phone, his eyebrows pulling down into a frown as he reads Jimin’s message. Before he can start to reply, your lover sends another.
[Jimin] ‘Or are there other toys you’d rather be playing with?’
You watch as Taehyung presses his lips together, his eyes flicking up from his phone to look first at Jimin and then you, his tongue coming out to wet his lips when he notices the flush on your cheeks. Jimin’s hand tightens on your hip as his friend shifts on the bed, his state of arousal becoming more and more obvious the longer he looks at you. Again, he starts to reply but Jimin doesn’t give him chance.
[Jimin] ‘Go wait in your room. She’ll meet you there.’
Taehyung’s head jerks upward abruptly, his mouth hanging open as he looks to you for confirmation, eyes darting to Jimin like he can’t quite help doing so, and when you give a slight nod of your head you see him swallow, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down in his throat. It’s only then that you realise that Hoseok, who’s sat next to Taehyung, has come to notice this silent exchange and is now reading curiously over the other’s shoulder just as Jimin sends a fourth and final message.
[Jimin] ‘Make her cum good and hard for me. I want to hear her screaming from here.’
Hobi’s eyebrows shoot upward as he reads the message, his mouth falling open, and you have to resist the urge to hide your face in your hands as he then looks across the room to you. Taehyung hasn’t even realised he’s been caught out; he’s too busy shuffling off the bed and stuffing his hands in his pockets to conceal his erection as he stands.
“I’m not feeling well,” he announces, a little too loudly, and all the while Hoseok is smirking, unconcerned with hiding his amusement.
“Did you eat something you shouldn’t again, Taehyungie? ” Jin asks, the concern on his face taking the edge off the chastisement in his tone. Tae shakes his head quickly, and this time when he speaks it sounds far more natural.
“No, it’s not that. I think maybe I’m just tired. Don’t worry about me hyung. ”
“I’m sure he’ll be feeling fine again in no time,” Hobi adds cheekily and you shoot him a glare before you can help yourself.
“Ok, well, goodnight,” Jin says, still regarding the other with something akin to suspicion but letting it go when Taehyung leaves, giving his wide shoulders a little shrug as Jungkook calls goodnight too.
Jimin’s been gently trailing his fingertips up and down your thigh the whole time this has been happening, keeping you fixed in a state of arousal that has you squirming on his lap as you simultaneously try to avoid meeting Hobi’s eyes - not an easy task, considering you can feel them boring into the side of your head.
“Hmm, you’re getting excited, aren’t you kitten?” Jimin whispers into your neck, repositioning you on his lap to better demonstrate just how hard he is, “I can smell it.” He places a teasing kiss on your shoulder and again it has you shuddering, a blush forming on your cheeks.
“Jiminie, stop it,” you discourage quietly, trying to keep a straight face as he pushes his nose into your hair and tugs on your hips, pulling your ass into him.
“I can’t wait to fuck you once Taehyung’s done with you.” You bite your lip, feeling your underwear starting to dampen with arousal at Jimin’s whispered words. “Daddy’s little slut.”
Only by clamping down on your lip even harder do you stop a groan from escaping, and when you look up you’re mortified to see that even Hobi is starting to regard you darkly now, long having abandoned the game to leave Jungkook playing solo. He shouldn’t be looking at you like that - he’s your friend, your friend who’s dating your best friend - but you know he can’t help it. What else can you expect when he can hear you blood thundering excitedly through your veins? If Jimin can smell you it won’t be long till the rest of them can too, and maybe Hoseok already can judging by the way he inhales deeply and then slumps back against the pillows, licking his lips.
“Daddy, please can I go?” you whimper, turning your head and kissing his pouty bottom lip, digging your fingers into his rock hard stomach through his shirt. He pulls back to look at you with the most delicious of smirks twisting his mouth, pausing for just a moment before tilting his head to the side and taking his hands off of you.
“Be good, kitten,” he tells you softly as you climb off his lap, all too aware of the stickiness between your legs as you cross the room toward the exit.
“You too?” Jin questions, making you pause.
“Yeah,” you answer shakily, wishing that Jungkook would’ve just carried on playing his game rather than now having four pairs of eyes lingering on you all at once, “It’s been a long night.”
“Sleep well then,” Jin smiles sweetly and when you mumble a thank you on your way out you catch Hobi winking at you from the other side of the bed, making you blush one more time before you pull the door shut behind you.
You actually have to take a moment to collect yourself once you’re out in the hall. Just a second where you lean against the wall, trying to catch your breath and prepare yourself for what you’re about to go and do.
This feels so different than before; scarier almost. When you'd slept with Jimin and Yoongi for the first time there’d been at least some feelings involved. None of it had been pre-planned either, not on your part anyway, so to be stood here looking at Taehyung’s door knowing if you go in there it'll be for one reason and one reason only is just… well, you can't quite get your head around it.
It's so much easier when you're all wrapped up in the moment, when you're not thinking, just feeling, letting yourself get swept up in lust and desire. Logically, you know that that will inevitably end up happening if you can just stop being such a chicken and force yourself to take the first step and it's with that thought in mind that you finally manage to reach out and turn Taehyung’s door handle, taking a bracing breath as you do so.
He looks up from where he's sat on the end of the bed as soon when you enter, his fingers continue to fidget in his lap even though he looks happy to see you.
“I'd thought maybe Jimin was just teasing me,” he says and you smile nervously as you close the door softly behind you. “There's a lock at the top. You can...” Taehyung trails off when he notices you swallow at the suggestion, suddenly fumbling over his words as he rises from the bed. “Unless you don't want to. I just thought-”
“No… no it's a good idea,” you stammer, “Wouldn't want anyone walking in while we're…” It's you that trails off this time, trying not to blush at the mental image that pops into your head as you stand on your tip-toes to slide the bolt in place. When you turn around again Taehyung is suddenly a lot closer than before, his head tilted to the side as he regards you.
“You're so pretty Jagiya.” He reaches out to touch your face so suddenly that you actually flinch away, baulking, and Tae frowns, evidently confused by your unexpected rejection.
“Sorry,” you apologise, laughing stupidly at yourself as you tug at your sweater sleeves. God, your heart is pounding so hard. “I'm kind of nervous.” Taehyung doesn't smile but his eyes do soften as he looks down at you, and this time when he reaches out to take your hand you let him, even stepping forward a pace to bring you closer together.
“We won't do anything you don’t want to, I promise,” he assures you, his long fingers lacing through yours. Taehyung’s taller than both Yoongi and Jimin, and you find yourself having to tilt your head far more to look him in the eyes. He really is handsome, though unlike the others it's in an odd, almost otherworldly way, like he's the product of someone's meticulous design - every beauty spot precisely placed to enhance his beauty.
You find yourself swallowing again, caught in his steady gaze.
“Tell me what you'd like me to do,” Taehyung encourages softly, and it's at that moment you realise just how much you're aching for him to touch you again, the memory of the last time still a potent one in your mind. Still, baby steps.
“We've never kissed,” you reply after a moment, trying not to let your voice shake. How strange it is that this boy in front of you has had his fingers inside you before, but you've never even touched lips. “Maybe we should start there.”
Taehyung doesn’t hesitate to fulfil your request. He steps forward till you're toe to toe, intertwining your remaining hands and then leaning in to kiss you sweetly. His kiss, too, is totally unlike those you've had before; his lips thinner than Jimin's but softer than Yoongi's. He’s playful, teasing, withdrawing enough to make you chase after his lips and then surging forward again as soon as you do, giggling against his mouth.
It's you that deepens the kiss, your confidence bolstered by Taehyung’s happy-go-lucky approach to it all. He obligingly lets you explore the warmth of his mouth that’s so inviting, allowing you to take the lead and simply groaning when you bite gently on his bottom lip.
Instinct is taking over now. Whether it be Jimin or Yoongi or Taehyung, all of the basics are the same when it comes down to it. You know what to do now to make them feel good and the things that feel best for you, too, and just the thought of getting to experiment in doing those things with a new playmate is getting you all hot and bothered, eager for more now that your nerves have faded.
Your hands have slipped out of his and have come to rest instead on the oversized grey t-shirt he’s wearing now. Though you’re not trying to, you’re still able to feel the tautness of Taehyung’s lean stomach through the material, and knowing that that’s what’s lurking underneath all these expensive designer clothes, waiting to be unwrapped, just makes you want to see it for yourself all the more.
“Taehyung,” you murmur huskily against his mouth, grabbing at his belt loops, “Tae, take off your clothes.”

4cr Plays - Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space (Switch)
I've always had a soft spot for the Sam & Max series - point & click adventure games about a canine detective and his best pal, a megalomaniacal rabbity thing. I played the original, part of the legendary LucasArts lineup of the 90s, over and over again. Then, when Telltale Games brought back the duo as the stars of three "seasons" of episodic games, the episodes became part of a ritual where my future wife and I would sit around a CRT computer screen on Friday nights and play through them. I have really fond memories of playing each episode as they came out.
After Telltale closed down a couple of years back, a group of former developers - under the banner of Skunkape Games - bought the rights to the original games. These developers have been working to release all three seasons on modern systems, with a huge range of improvements to the controls, graphics, and audio. The remastered first season, Sam & Max Save the World, was release last winter - where it made the first winter of lockdown a tiny bit more bearable.
Now, one year later, the second season - Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space - has been released on PC, Xbox, and Switch. I have spent some time with the Switch release. Read on for my impressions.
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is a "point and click" adventure game. What this means, essentially, is that you progress through a story by solving puzzles embedded in an environment that you explore. That is - you point at things on the screen and click on them to interact with them. Your character has an inventory of items, and can use those items as part of manipulating your environment to progress.
In this type of game, the puzzles are the core focus of the gameplay. Timing isn’t particularly precise or important, and you don’t need to memorize button combos. Instead, the goal is to get you to stop and think - to reason using the tools at your disposal. One of my favorite examples of the type of puzzles and logic in this genre comes from the first season of Sam & Max. Early in the game, a rat in your office has stolen your phone and won’t return it until you offer up Swiss cheese. Max has filled the closet with cheese. This would be great, except that it isn’t Swiss cheese. Fortunately, your inventory holds the solution - Sam’s revolver! Swiss cheese has holes, a gun can make holes, perfect! You need to think a little outside of the box, and put on your Looney Tunes brain. However, if you can get into the right mindset, the solutions tend to click into place.
The story of Sam & Max revolves around the titular duo of "freelance police" - self-deputized crimefighters dedicated to solving mysteries and filling their wallets with sweet, sweet cash. Sam is a dog in a trench coat, and Max is a long-eared psychopath. Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is presented as a season of six episodes, much like a TV show. Initially, each tells its own short story. Our detectives face off against Santa Claus, investigate a giant volcano, and meet a sketchy vampire. However, each case begins to tie together, before concluding in the dramatic season finale.
As you can imagine from that description, Sam & Max is fully tongue-in-cheek - a surreal comedy that blends a bit of Looney Tunes, a bit of Calvin and Hobbes, and a touch of Far Side. It is a world where animals and humans freely interact and it isn’t particularly weird to shoot the cheese with a gun. It is delightfully hilarious. Even today, I feel compelled to click on every single item just to see how it was described and every single dialogue option. Few games have comedy writing this sharp and hilarious, and this game is worth experiencing just for the script.
Each episode lasts about an hour and a half to two hours. Back in 2007, one episode was released every 1-2 months. As a result, it was a pretty novel way to play a game. Rather than it being your focus over a week or two, you would play it in these bite-size chunks. For many games, this kind of format doesn't make much sense. However, here, it worked well. It created a unique pace, and kept the game from becoming boring or overstaying its welcome. As I mentioned, I used to have a bit of a ritual with Telltale’s games, where I would play through a new episode on a Friday evening with my girlfriend (and future wife) around the old computer.
The remaster presents you with all of the episodes at once, so you don’t have to space each episode out. However, I absolutely recommend that you do. It's a different and refreshing pace compared to games that you just binge. You don't need to wait a month between episodes, but it was fun to play an episode every week or so in the remaster.
If you played this season of Sam & Max back in the day - and your brain actually functions, unlike mine - you might be wondering what has changed in the remaster. The obvious thing is a redesigned control scheme for playing with a gamepad instead of a keyboard and mouse. The driving and shooting, in particular, have been tweaked.
The original game was not designed for controllers from the start, but the new controls feel fairly natural. I have been playing on the Switch, and haven’t missed the mouse-based interface of the original release. How it works now is that you walk through the environment with the left stick, and use the right stick to target different objects for interaction. Rather than hunting for an object, you can use the right stick to switch between all of the nearby options. This works well, and nicely deals with a common adventure game problem of having to hunt for more interaction targets.
Accessibility options have also been added, including the ability to skip driving minigames and a toggle to turn off lighting effects that could trigger seizures.
There have also been many improvements in terms of graphics and audio. In addition to the resolution being increased, the assets have been scaled up, and dynamic lighting and shadows have been added. The character models have been tweaked, based on input from Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell's feedback. Visual effects have been added that were not possible in the Telltale engine back in 2007, including falling snow at the North Pole. The camera angles, character acting, and choreography have also all been adjusted by cinematic artists. The game looks nice, thanks to the visual overhaul. I have played on the Switch, and have had no issues - the game runs well and looks nice on either the TV or the tablet.
The audio in the original version was compressed to limit download sizes. The developers have collected the original voice actors and re-recorded their lines at a higher quality. The soundtrack was also re-recorded using live musicians, and new tracks were added by the original composer, Jared Emerson-Johnson.
It's an impressive effort. This is a ton of work, when many remasters simply add higher resolutions and widescreen support. It really shows the passion of the developers for their creation, and is worth supporting.
Beyond these tweaks, the game itself still holds up well. The puzzles are clever, but not punishing, and you don't need an advanced degree to solve them. The writing is still genuinely hilarious, although some of the jokes definitely place the game right in a particular time and place. Both of the remastered seasons of Sam & Max are worth revisiting if you haven't gone back to them in years or playing now for the first time.
