shotaro . . .
since the beginning of november, shotaro had planned a romantic getaway for the holidays. he booked the resort the second you agreed to his idea. from then until the day he drove you to the resort, he wouldn't stop talking about how excited he was. on christmas night, you finally realized why he was so excited.
taro knew you wanted to try ice skating. every time you'd open instagram, you'd watch reels about cute winter date ideas, and somehow ice skating was always a suggestion. you've been bugging taro to take you ice skating. the two of you got ready together in your fancy hotel room, taro letting you pick out your matching outfits. after you got all dolled up for the date, you were on your way to the skii resort.
taro held your hand as you entered the skii lift, reassuring you everything would be fun. but you were terrified. the lift seemed to be going way faster than you anticipated, causing your anxiety to palpitate in your chest. but once you entered the skii lift, your every thought was clouded by the breathtaking view ahead of you. but within seconds of reaching the mountain peak, you felt a tap on your shoulder. as you turned to face your boyfriend, your gaze was stolen by a glistening ring in taro's hand. your heart grew lighter as you looked down into taro's doting eyes.
"you've made every day of my life feel like a dream. would you let me live in your fairytale for the rest of our lives?"
the two of you held hands and explored the snowy mountain together, not being able to stop giggling as the idea of being with each other for the rest of your lives sank in.
eunseok . . .
eunseok is truly the most nurturing boyfriend you could ask for. no matter how busy or tired he is, he'd drop anything and come running to you the second you call his name. but with such a caring boyfriend comes so much nagging. eunseok is always complaining about how you spend too much money ordering food when he could just cook for you, or how you need to prioritize paying bills before buying new clothes. so of course it shocked you when he suddenly told you he was taking you to a tropical resort for christmas.
but of course, you couldn't complain. you were already envisioning so many cute things to do with eunseok on the vacation. you were a bit too excited, packing your things the same night although you had two more weeks until your flight. but it was all worth it. the resort he booked was absolutely stunning. you had your own little house on the beach and you bedroom had a window view of the deep turquoise waves.
the next few days, eunseok would take you on fancy tours of the island and luxurious dinner dates every night. you felt a bit emotional when things were coming to an end. the amount of beautiful memories you made with eunseok this week was all starting to overwhelm you. you felt like your love for him was at its capacity. seeing how sentimental you were, eunseok decided to lift your spirits by taking you on the final activity he had booked: a romantic ride on a yacht. it was absolutely lovely sitting beside eunseok with a glass of champagne in your hand. the wind breezed through your hair, refreshing every lingering thought in your mind. as you soaked in the tropical sun, eunseok called from behind you. "i think you'll like this view more." your heart stilled in your chest as you turned to eunseok, who was on one knee with the most stunning diamond ring you've ever seen
"you're the only person i'd wish to share the rest of my memories with. darling, will you marry me?"
sungchan . . .
every date with sungchan is typically organized by you. sungchan is quite clumsy and unorganized, so whenever he plans something it usually goes wrong. though you don't mind it and enjoy the thrill of how unpredictable his dates are, he's too insecure to plan dates. after all, sungchan wants the best for you.
but he knew you couldn't plan his proposal. he wanted it to be a complete surprise, which he succeeded in. you were shocked by how beautiful the house looked when you got home from spending time with your family for christmas. there was a romantic trail of rose petals leading you from the entrance to the dinner table, which was prettily decorated with fancy candles and flowers. though sungchan was such a klutz, you were proud of him for how luxurious he made the house.
everything was going as planned: he cooked up his best dish and it turned out delicious having you get up for seconds. you even complimented how well he planned out this date. to finish off the night, sungchan poured you a glass of pink champagne and served two slices of your favorite cake. the two of you were eating cake by the fireplace and sharing affectionate words with one another until suddenly, sungchan winced in pain and he covered his mouth with his hand. concerned and panicked, you put down your plate and leaned closer asking him what was wrong. you were surprised to see sungchan pull out a small object from his mouth. it was a diamond ring. you could see the embarrassment rise to his face as he looked down at the ring. "well, that wasn't supposed to be there..." as you realized what had just happened, you bursted out into laughter and took sungchan into your arms. "oh my gosh, sungchan, you're the cutest!" sungchan whined and threw his head into his hands crying, "it was going so well!" you smiled and left a doting kiss on sungchan's lips. "it's alright baby, now's your chance." sungchan sat up and cleared his throat, taking your hands into his and looking into your eyes.
"i know that was so stupid of me, but i promise to take you on countless more dates even better than this one. would you be my wife?"
wonbin . . .
wonbin loves home dates. whenever wonbin is in the mood to take you on a date, the destination is almost always his living room. something about the intimacy of being alone in such a comfortable space makes him so much sweeter than usual. but the christmas spirit makes wonbin even sweeter.
the two of you have a holiday tradition of going on a date to the annual christmas light festival at the nearby park. after walking around and taking cute pictures of every display, you would both find a seat in front of the frozen lake and share one early christmas gift.
but this year, wonbin forgot all about your gift. you stood in front of him with a blue gift bag in your hands, staring at him in disbelief as he stood empty-handed. you were furious. you'd been keeping up this tradition for five years, how could he forget? wonbin had even been bragging endlessly about how amazing your gift is, yet he conveniently forgot to bring it with him. you sat down on the bench and crossed your arms, not daring to look at him. all you could do was sulk as he cooed apologies. but your tough demeanor was soon cracked when wonbin sang, "listen baby, i can make it up to you, hm? look at me." finally giving in and turning to face him, your heart dropped to your stomach. wonbin got on one knee ahead of you, pulling out a small black velvet case from his pocket.
"you're the best gift i could ever receive. i'd never trade you for anything else in the world. will you marry me?"
seunghan . . .
seunghan spoils you rotten all throughout the year. you're having a hard day? dinner date! you just got a promotion? shopping spree! you gave him a few extra kisses that morning? flowers at your doorstep! after all, you're his entire world. what better way to show you that than giving you everything you could possibly ask for?
christmas is your favorite time of the year. you love going on all of the winter dates seunghan plans and enjoying the christmas spirit with him. but it gets a bit stressful sometimes. every day, there's at least two more gifts under the christmas tree despite not asking for a single thing this year. since seunghan spends so much money on you, you told him not to fret about christmas gifts this year and to focus on his family and friends. but its obvious those words didn't stick with him. by the time christmas eve came, more than half of the gifts under the tree were for you. you went to bed that night excited to open all of the gifts he'd gotten for you.
but you woke up to a christmas tree with no gifts beneath it. the tree skirt was bare with no boxes in sight. instead, four bouquets of flowers were sitting where the gifts usually were. confused, you called for seunghan in hopes he could explain what happened. but he never answered. as you investigated further, you noticed a single gift sitting on the branches of the tree. your eyes welled with tears as it revealed a silver ring with a stunning blue diamond. you turned around to see seunghan standing at the doorway with all of your gifts and another bouquet.
"what do you say, angel? would you take my hand in marriage?"
sohee . . .
as much as sohee loves you, it's rare for him to express said love through physical touch. here and there, he'd hold your hand as you walk beside each other or he'd brush your hair behind your ear when you're resting against his shoulder. but typically, he struggles to openly express his affection.
so of course you suspected something was off when he awkwardly held your hand for days straight. since the day before christmas eve, sohee's been so much more cuddly than you're used to. after spending the holidays together for the nth time, he wouldn't leave your side. he was practically clinging onto you from the moment he woke up to the moment he fell asleep in your arms. though you loved every second of it, you began to worry.
to end off christmas day on a cozy note, you put on your coziest sweater and got comfortable in front of the fireplace. not even a few seconds later, sohee hesitantly sat beside you, linking his arm around yours and resting against your shoulder. you pulled the blanket over the two of you and looked down at the clingy boy beside you. resting your hand on his cheek and stroking his soft skin, you asked out of pure concern, "sohee baby, is something wrong? is there something from your christmas list that i missed?" sohee chuckled and shook his head, snuggling closer to you. "what? of course not. i just... have a lot on my mind." even the slightest pout on sohee's face caused you immense discomfort and pain. you couldn't stand hearing he was stressed. "tell me about it, what's upsetting you?" sohee took a few seconds to simply breathe and take in your presence. swallowing back all of his fear, he looked up at you and let everything fall from his lips. "i think... i think i wanna marry you." your heart stood completely still. not a single breath escaped your lips. it was as if your entire world had froze. your love for sohee began overflowing in the form of tears.
"i've never felt so much love for someone as long as i've lived. i want to marry you, y/n."
anton . . .
christmas is always so serious for anton. he does not play when it comes to the holiday festivities. from november 1st all the way through january 31st, your house is full of the prettiest christmas decorations and even gifts. anton buys tons and tons of gifts for you that could last even past christmas. all year round, he takes notes on what items you express a desire for and he brings home all of those gifts on christmas. he just wants nothing but the best for you.
you're far too precious to anton. everything you do makes him feel so overwhelmingly in love with you. no matter how cranky you are, anton will always spoil you with snacks and affection every night. so of course he goes above and beyond for christmas, seizing the opportunity to spoil you rotten.
but you didn't expect there to be this many presents under the tree. you shook your head in both disbelief and astonishment. after eating a fancy breakfast anton had prepared, he urged you to open all of your gifts. you were more than touched to see all of the things you've mentioned to him sitting under the tree. from new clothes to fancy jewelry, anton covered everything you wished for. just when you thought things couldn't get any better, you opened the final box. inside lied a white teddy bear and a pink book sitting beneath it. you wound emotional flipping through the pages and seeing all of the prettiest photos he's taken with you, from the lowest times to the happiest memories you could recall. lying in the center of the last page was a gift you've been waiting for since the moment you met anton. it was a promise ring. looking up at anton with love flowing down your cheeks, you couldn't help but cry out of pure happiness.
"the happiest moments of my life were spent with you, y/n, and i want nothing more than to make even more with you. may i be your husband?"

Tumblr media
god, finally.
you sat on the corner of your mattress, still carefully drying your wet dripping hair with the fluffy towel that belonged to you. after a shower like that? you felt refreshed, you felt good and oh did you feel so ready to just pass out on your bed at that moment. that was until you remembered that you couldn’t; since you had to wait for wonyoung, your dorm mate, to come back from the mall with yujin— or, wherever the hell they were at this hour. her dumbass forgot to bring the keys with her, so you’d have to stay awake to be able to open the door for her.
grabbing your phone, you checked the time. it read 12:37 am, which then lead you to text her, very politely yelling at her through SMS to hurry the fuck home before turning it off again and plugging in the charger.
what a hassle, you thought, groaning. you were fucking exhausted and were practically dying to get some amount of rest, especially after such a long day of non-ending schedules.
mentally sucking it up and shrugging it off, you put the towel aside and laid down on your back, grabbing your phone yet again as an attempt to cure the ongrowing boredom and impatience inside you; maybe instagram reels would make the time go by faster.
indeed, before you knew it, you were startled by a quiet knock at the door. feeling immediate relief, you quickly got up and rushed to open it, already thinking about the amazing night of sleep you were gonna get afterwards.
“any second later and i would’ve left you outside, wonyoung.” you complained as soon as you turned the knob, immediately greeted by her face. you particularly noticed her expression switch to one of slight guilt as she giggled nervously.
you also observed how she stared at you, as per usual.
“sorry, angel.” she apologized, looking up and down at your entire body, seemingly distraught by the sight of your naked thighs, before walking in and continuing. “we just got so caught up in conversation that we ended up just walking around for hours, i hope i didn’t keep you waiting for too long, though.” she scratched the back of her neck, still staring at you, this time more so focused on your chest.
here’s the thing, you loved wonyoung. she was one of your closest friends, that was undeniable. but for some reason, sometimes whenever you’d talk to her.. she’d have a certain look. the same look that she’d give you whenever you’re wearing a somewhat revealing outfit, or doing quite literally anything, for that matter. it always made you feel uneasy, it made your skin crawl. you’d never tell her, though; she was a sweetheart, and you knew that her last intention would be to ever make you uncomfortable.
right now was one of those moments, though, and her staring was getting overwhelming.
more overwhelming than usual.
subtly trying to brush it off, you responded, “it’s— it’s fine. just, please bring the keys next time?”
she simply nodded before apologizing again, clearly aware of her mistake and swearing to never commit it again. that gave you the permission you needed to finally get ready for bed. whilst you were doing that, she was changing into her comfier clothes and also getting ready to sleep as she threw occasional warm smiles at you.
until she squinted at you.
“man, you look pretty tired, y/n. did you sleep early yesterday?” she asked with a worried tone, afraid that you maybe weren’t getting enough sleep.
you waved your hand around, “yeah, i did. today just wore me the fuck out really, but oh well.” you cut the conversation short, heading straight towards your bed. “goodnight wonyoung—“ but before you could do so, you felt her hand grab your wrist.
tightly.
“wait but— don’t you wanna cuddle like we usually do?” she asked, her mouth formed into a small pout.
and there went that stare. again.
“wony i’m sorry, i’m really tired and—“
“come on, please. i missed you.” she insisted, her grip on your wrist getting tighter as she kept her unsettling gaze on yours.
your tired brain didn’t seem to register that, however, since you didn't even think about saying no.
i mean, she seemed pretty insistent on cuddling that night, so who were you to even say no? either way, you were gonna fall asleep immediately, so did it really matter if she was cuddling you or not?
you groaned dramatically, then signaled for her to lay on the other side of the bed. her eyes immediately lighting up, she rushed to jump on that side of the bed.
it didn’t take long at all for you guys to finally be settled in bed and you particularly thrived in finally feeling the warmth of your weighted blanket against your cold skin. she, on the other hand, just seemed to be happy to be there with you, considering the grip she had on you was quite strong for like, literally no reason.
after telling each other goodnight, you expected to doze off immediately, but you couldn’t. you felt bizarre, you didn’t feel like yourself at that moment. every single ounce of exhaustion left your body and it was like insomnia just kicked in for no reason whatsoever.
frustrated, you tried to sleep. that’s when you heard her breathing heavily… very heavily. her inhales and exhales were loud and violent and you felt them on your neck, since she was especially close to it. you would’ve shrugged it off,
if you didn’t feel her hands moving a lot more than usual.
“wonyoung?”
you felt her shift before hearing her hum, indicating you to keep going.
“you feeling okay?? you’re.. you’re breathing quite heavily.” was what you asked, somewhat concerned. “plus, you’re like, grabbing me—“
“sorry.” she responded immediately, “you just— you smell good, is all. i saw your hair was wet, you took a shower, right? you used the body lotion i gave you, right?”
you nodded reluctantly, somewhat weirded out by her behavior tonight, to which she hummed again.
“i knew you’d like it, it’s so soft and sweet,” she leaned in closer to your neck, sniffing it closer, “just like you, angel.”
what the fuck was actually wrong with her that night??
getting even more weirded out with each second that passed, you were about to let out a hesitant ‘thanks’ but got cut off by the sensation of her slowly sliding her hand up your pajama shirt as she kept sniffing you.
woah.
woah woah woah???
“wonyoung— what the fuck—“
“you smell so fucking good baby. fuck— so good. you used that body lotion just so i would notice, hm? i know you did.” she whispered into your ear, smelling your hair in the process as her other hand went down to your crotch.
triggering your fight or flight, you tried pushing her off of you slightly, but she simply wouldn’t budge.
wonyoung had always been taller than you by a long shot.
your own breathing getting heavier, you were starting to get progressively worried. why was she keeping you in place, why was she smelling you like this?? why the fuck was she acting weird???
“wonyoung get off of me—“
“god your smell.”
she just kept mumbling that same sentence as she sniffed you all over, gently putting her hand on your neck to keep you secure, making you squirm under her whilst you’re trying to break free from her tight grasp.
in a state of panic, “you’re scaring me wony stop it please—“
“stop moving or i swear to god i’ll fucking kill you.” was all she said back, it was dark, but not dark enough to where you couldn’t see her staring at you with that look again. you were shaking by this point, but you obeyed. you stopped moving, in fear of what she was actually going to do to you.
“look at you, being a fucking slut and putting on the body lotion i gave you, always wearing these outfits around me, and you seriously expect me not to do this shit? god, you probably sounded so good washing up too—” she rubbed your inners thighs with her free hand before adding on,
“what do you want me to do when your ass is out in front of me all the time, y/n? i tried to be nice and do it only when you’re sleeping, but answering the door at midnight in booty shorts and tshirt this tight? baby, you’re asking me to fuck you.” her hand still reaching down to your thighs and squeezing them, hard enough for her acrylic nails to dig in slightly as you winced in pain.
you tried speaking up, but words wouldn’t come out.
you could only stare at her, tears quickly welling up your eyes.
“oh angel, don’t cry..” she pouted, quickly taking that same hand she used to hurt you and wiping your tears with it. you could only flinch “i’m so sorry baby, i— i just can’t help it. you look so good and smell so good and—“ she slid her hand up your shirt and quickly went under your bra, playing with the nipple for a few moments almost immediately as she breathed in more of your pheromones before exhaling sharply yet again. “fuck y/n your tits—“
“—i’ll be quick, okay? i promise it’ll be fine, i’ll be sooo quick.”
wonyoung very quickly slid her hand back down your crotch as she forcefully kissed you, tightening her grip on your neck whenever you weren’t giving her enough tongue. “come on baby, work for it, i know you want this.”
you didn’t. you didn’t want it.
her fingers slipping under your shorts and onto your panties, she rubbed circles around your wet clit through the fabric of them, closing her eyes in euphoria when she heard your choked up moan.
“shit.. look at you, being all wet for me. i knew you’ve always wanted me to do this to you. hm? come on, say it.”
“l-let go off me—“
her nails dug into your neck once more, making you whimper. “shut. the fuck. up.” she whispered, “i guess bitches like you shouldn’t be allowed to speak up, huh. that’s fine, we’ll have you be a stupid puppy instead, okay? you can do that, right?”
you only cried out in front of her, clit still being stimulated from her long and cold fingers. her disturbing gaze piercing through yours, her pretty face exhibiting the ugliest thoughts she had about you.
“i said, nod, bitch.”
and so, you nodded. eagerly, at that. of course you did, with the amount of strength this girl was putting on her grip, you needed to obey her every word.
even if you had abundant tears rolling down your face.
“you’re so pretty like this.” she breathed out, before kissing you then pulling back away, “you’re getting me so fucking wet y/n.”
then, she gradually reaches into your underwear and puts her hands on your naked cunt, rubbing the slit and feeling how wet it is. in response to that, she laughed.
she laughed in your face.
but before you could even process anything, however, she already had two of her fingers buried deep inside your pussy, already curling in all of the right places.
and that’s when you remembered the fact that she had acrylic nails on.
“w-wonyoung— take them out take them out it h-hurts wonyoung it hurts p-please—“
“i don’t give a shit. you’re gonna be a good fucking girl and take it. you know what’ll happen if you don’t, don’t you?”
she pumped and curled her fingers in and out, watching you as your facial expressions changed with each movement she made, smiling and mocking you.
and that went for what felt like hours.
until she decided she had enough of you crying and begging for her to stop. she believed that it was, in her words, ‘her turn to feel good’ now.
so she took off her own clothes and rubbed her dripping pussy onto your own, her hand digging into your neck if you moved in a way she didn’t like.
her words rang in your head, things like “y-you’re so fucking selfish y/n, it’s usually so much better, whenever you’re sound a-asleep peacefully— oh my god.”
it didn’t take long for her to cum, since seeing you sob so prettily made her so unbelievably aroused. and when she did, she just went back to cuddling you. as if you weren’t bleeding from your nose, thighs and neck. as if you weren’t in pain, she just went back to cuddling you.
and you just had to silently cry in her arms. those were the only ones you could do that in at that moment.

Travel update #5
Ecuador
A lot of events have transpired since I last posted a blog update! I signed off my last post at the border between Colombia and Ecuador. There is a lot to get through and so without further ado, welcome to the fourth country of our travels so far - Ecuador.
Normally at a border crossing the scenery subtly merged from one country to the next but upon arriving into El Ángel National Park at the Ecuadorian border, we were transported into another world. I don’t know how to describe El Ángel National Park as even the photos that I took are pale in comparison to the experience of being there. We were travelling through the park on a dirt track and there were frailjones (a specific type of Latin American sunflower) as far as the eye could see in every direction. We were the only souls along the entirety of this track and the only sounds were those of our tyres on the dirt. It was surreal. It felt like we were the only people on this strange, desolate new planet.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
We passed through a few different towns before we reached the famous Ottavalo Market. The market is known throughout South America for being the best place to buy alpaca wool goods handcrafted by the indigenous people of Ottavalo. The market was vast, bursting with piles of rugs, jumpers, gloves, hats, toys (to name a few) being sold by charming Ottovaleños. We both bought a jumper each and I’ve pretty much been living in it ever since.
Tumblr media
Probably the nicest thing about Ecuador is the amount of indigenous people wearing traditional dress. In Ecuador, 25% of people define themselves as indigenous - 22% more than in Colombia. More often than not in Ecuador, entire villages will be wearing their own cultural variation of the traditional dress. It was interesting to see how this changed as we crossed the country. Women in the North tended to wear long blue dresses, handmade blue sandals, a white blouse with an ornately embroidered belt. Men wore a blue poncho or shirt and a fedora. Once we travelled South, the women of the highlands now wore extremely bright coloured felt shawls held together with a brooch. They wore knee length bright skirts -usually in a contrasting colour to their shawl, wellington boots and a fedora. The men of the highlands wore striped ponchos and wellingtons. This was the first time I had ever seen so many people dressed traditionally throughout the entirely of a country and it was inspiring to see a culture so rich.
The capital of Ecuador is in the North, so we reached Quito fairly early into our journey. Out of all of the Latin American capitals we had visited, Quito felt the most European. It had a really relaxed yet quiet and private vibe. People ran in the parks and took their dogs out for walks in the evening. It was extremely civilised but it seemed to lack the intensity, drama and disinhibition of cities in its neighbouring countries.
The roads after Quito were beautiful. We were cycling through Ecuador’s Volcanic corridor, which took us around Cotopaxi Volcano and ended with the vast and breathtaking Quilatoa Lake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scenery was spectacular but the cycling was becoming extremely difficult. The small roads that we usually cycled on were now cobbled instead of paved or dirt. We had to bump along up hills of extreme gradients. It was rainy season in Ecuador so we frequently found ourselves cycling in dense fog or rain all day. The dampness made cycling uphill on cobbles extremely slippery and dangerous to do, especially on a bike that weighed the same amount as I did! I found myself having to get off the saddle and push my bike up steep hill after steep hill, most of which only 4x4’s were able to drive up.
Tumblr media
Ecuadorians seemed to prefer to build roads straight up the mountain rather than having the road switch back a few times to gradually take you up. Because of this, our progress became infuriatingly slow - down from 80km per day in Colombia to 40-50km in good weather.
Tumblr media
Ecuador took us to new heights. Most days we were at an altitude of 3000-4000m. Although thankfully neither of us got altitude sickness, doing such intense physical activity so far above sea level left me incredibly out of puff to the point that I would struggle to catch my breath.
The picture painted of cycling through Ecuador online and on social media contrasted immensely with the reality of doing so. Cycle-touring blogs and Instagram accounts that I’ve been following whilst on the trip are endlessly positive highlight reels of what it’s like cycling on the best days. Nobody tells you that you will be woken up in the middle of the night with searing pain in your legs from the build up of lactic acid. Nobody tells you that on the worst day of your period you will be biking 2000m of elevation instead of running yourself a hot bath and stuffing your face with chocolate.
After a while in Ecuador, I started to expect every day to be another bad day, which kickstarted a dangerous spiral of negativity. I would look at Max cycling ahead of me in the distance, conquering each hill much more easily and happily than I could, and I would wonder why I was not able to do the same. I was asking myself why on earth I was putting my mind and body through this every day. It was the first time on the trip that I truly missed home.
Ecuador uses the dollar and is much more expensive than Colombia. Because of this to save money we did a lot more camping than we usually would. However because of the persistent rain we found ourselves needing to camp under shelter, once taking refuge on a volleyball pitch next to the side of the road, other times in hostel courtyards. Not splashing out on a bed in a hostel very often meant that we were tackling the Andes on very little sleep for as long as ten days in a row without a break.
This has been a pretty negative account (sorry!). However it was not totally miserable in Ecuador. On dry days, we got to camp in some of the most amazing, wild spots that have been better than anywhere else on the trip thus far. We spent time camping next to waterfalls and at the base of volcanoes. Between villages while cycling on dirt roads we were very often the only the people around. We saw lots of llamas and alpacas for the first time on the trip!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However no amount of cute, fluffy llamas could make up for the difficulty of the cycling and unfortunately my morale was low. The strain of undertaking such an intense physical challenge and spending every minute of the day together began to take a toll on mine and Max’s relationship. We were exhausted and bickering with each other at every opportunity. I was falling out of love with the cycling and in the end we decided that it would be good to take a break from biking and spend some time apart.
Max and his family were heading to visit him in the Galapagos for ten days, and although I was invited along too I decided to fly to Brazil instead. We were 5 months into the trip and halfway through our time on the continent so it felt like a good moment to rest our bodies and treat ourselves a little bit.
Our cycle route down the Western side of South America doesn’t take us through Brazil and it has always been a country that I have wanted to visit. I booked my flights to Rio de Janeiro and found out a couple of days later that I was going to be there while it’s Carnival! I really needed to blow off some steam and now had the perfect opportunity to do so - it felt like the stars were aligning!
So about a week ago, we both left our bikes behind and flew to completely different places. We are going to return to our bikes refreshed, rested and ready to take on the Peruvian section of the Andes! Other cyclists that we have met on this trip rave about Peru being one of the most beautiful countries to cycle through, so I’m pretty excited. More importantly others have said that Peru is far less steep than Ecuador because they thankfully build long, winding hairpins up the mountain at a gradual gradient when possible. Obviously, there will still be hills to climb but after a good rest I’ll be able to take them on with fresh legs and a positive attitude.
I landed in Rio de Janeiro a few days ago and Carnival is every bit as exciting, intense, raucous and dynamic as you would imagine it to be - just times by one hundred. I’ve been at some of the street parties (that seemingly have no start or end) for a few days now. I will save writing about my time in Brazil for my next update.
Below I’ve posted the full video of our time cycling through Colombia. I’m in the process of putting together the Ecuador video and will upload it in a few days.
Here is the link to track our progress (although we won’t be cycling for a while so you won’t see a lot of progression!)
http://share.garmin.com/DMB7R
Similarly to my previous post about reaching the end of Colombia, I thought I would write a list of all the interesting things that I noticed while travelling through Ecuador. Again, it’s lifted from my journal so it informally written.
Ice cream! Ice cream! Ice cream! For a country so cold it’s crazy to see how into ice cream the locals are. On every street there is an ice cream shop. In the North they cover ice cream in cheese (crazy combination I know...) I was intrigued by this but in the end I was too grossed out to give it a try.
The possibility of taking a hot shower is back- for the first time on the entire trip! Ecuadorians mostly have warm showers, which is nice. They don’t have central heating in their buildings so they use propane tanks to heat their water. Every morning a truck selling gas canisters trawls around every neighbourhood, blaring a song sung by children with shrill voices. It’s the same song in every town we have visited.
Ecuador has a strangely large amount of Chinese restaurants called “Chifas.”
They’re mad about topiary gardens. In the North every town square had shrubs with peoples faces and animals cut into them.
Ecuadorians are very quiet, reserved, friendly and humble people.
A very large amount of people drive old school classic VW Beetles. It’s definitely the most common type of classic car you will see in Ecuador.

LINKEDIN STORIES: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE
If you’re familiar with Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram, then you’re probably familiar with the “Stories” concept already. Maybe you’ve even got a “game plan” for how your business utilizes “Stories” across each platform.
youtube
That’s fabulous, honestly. But unfortunately, (and fortunately) you’re also probably familiar with the concept that just generally posting the same content with the same copy across each platform isn’t necessarily the best strategy.
And in some cases, it can actually be detrimental to your social media strategy, so today we’re going to go over how you can utilize LinkedIn Stories for your business, why you should utilize LinkedIn Stories and answer some of your most frequently asked questions, (so far) around LinkedIn Stories and LinkedIn marketing as a whole.
So, without any further talk, are we ready to get started??
Let’s go.
What Are LinkedIn Stories?
LinkedIn Stories are a brand new feature on LinkedIn that allow you to post twenty second videos, images, stickers and questions for a 24-hour period before disappearing. LinkedIn Stories seems to be an excellent way to showcase particular products, start conversations, introduce team members and even make important announcements and connections on the LinkedIn platform.
A Quick History of LinkedIn Stories
Months before LinkedIn rolled out in the US, it was rolling out across Europe and elsewhere around the world.
It might even interest you to know that despite the belief that it’s a “brand new” concept for LinkedIn as far as a fast, casual, full screen and fun way to share updates, it’s actually not the first time LinkedIn has dipped it’s fingers in the pie.
Nope! In fact, LinkedIn experimented with a similar Stories concept in 2018 for a short while that was limited to University Students and was thus called “Student Voices.”
RELATED: IMPROVING YOUR LINKEDIN SSI SCORE: THE ULTIMATE CHECKLIST
Why Should YOU Consider Using LinkedIn Stories?
If you’re asking yourself why YOU should consider using LinkedIn Stories before most brands are even capable of checking it out, here’s a couple of really good reasons:
#1: There’s Less Competition!
This reason is important to remember because who DOESN’T want less people to contend with when they’re launching a campaign??
I know, you’re probably thinking “but what if it’s a fad??”
Forget it. Because who cares if it IS a fad?
Can it help you gain traction? Yes.
Can it help you start conversations and build relationships? Yes.
And finally, will it help you make more sales?? Most likely.
Sounds like a win-win-win to me!
#2: It Provides a More Authentic Connection With Your Followers
There’s nothing better than going live to show off your new products, announcing giveaway winners and otherwise getting people excited about your upcoming products. LinkedIn Stories can help you get there!
#3: Utilize it as Another Stop on the Buyer's Journey
LinkedIn Stories is a perfect way to promote your brand by telling your followers about the ways you’ve helped your customers and had a positive impact on their brands. It can also be an incredible tool and opportunity for showcasing your own work, products and services through product reels, graphs and more.
LinkedIn Stories: A Glance at the Specs
If you’re going to blow this LinkedIn marketing strategy out of the water, you’re going to want to have a good grasp on what is allowed, what can be done, how long each video can be and all that fun stuff in regards to LinkedIn’s Stories Feature.
Every video for LinkedIn Stories can’t be longer than 20 seconds, must have an aspect ratio of 9:16 and will be visible for 24 hours.
In addition, don’t dally when it comes to collecting insights on your videos because those metrics disappear after 24 hours.
Posting and Creating a LinkedIn Story
You have two options when it comes to posting on LinkedIn Stories: you can either share a Story on your personal profile or on a business page that you’re an admin of.
From the LinkedIn mobile app, you’ll see all of the “Stories” at the top of your feed, followed by your profile picture with a “+” on it.
To post, you’ll select the “+” and it will open your camera. If you haven’t grantedpt allowing you to do so.
Tumblr media
Once inside the Stories camera, you can either take a photo, take video or select the image button in the lower left-hand corner to pick something from your gallery.
When you’re done customizing your Story, simply hit “post” and you’re done!
Customizing LinkedIn Stories
Already an extremely “custom” tool, LinkedIn Stories allows for further customization through text, stickers and mentions.
Step Up Your LinkedIn Stories Creations
It doesn’t take much to take your LinkedIn Stories and as a result, your LinkedIn Selling to the next level. Some other cool things LinkedIn has included in their new tool:
#1: You’ll be Able to Actively Connect With Your Viewers
LinkedIn has added “question of the day” stickers, which allow you to engage with your followers and answer questions like, “What is your morning routine?” or “how do you refresh your energy”?
These questions can be fantastic ways to better connect with your first-degree audience, just keep in mind that the questions, at least at this current time, cannot be modified.
#2: Mute Video Audio
Among other things, you also have the option of muting the audio of your LinkedIn Story. All it takes is tapping the little sound icon and tada! No more audio.
#3: Formatting
Among other cool features, you’re also able to change the text color, alignment and size!
#4: Share Away!
Did you see something interesting in another story, or want to share your own? LinkedIn Stories can be sent VIA private messages to other LinkedIn members!
#5: Downloading Your LinkedIn Stories
In case you decide you want to use it elsewhere, LinkedIn Stories can also be downloaded and shared anywhere- all with the click of the … button. BUT be aware: you can only download within 24 hours after posting. When you hit the 24 hour mark, you’ll have to download your account data to see expired Stories.

Kombucha health benefits: Here's what science says
Tumblr media
Kombucha, an ancient fizzy drink with origins in East Asia, has been shown to possess many health benefits, including increasing good bacteria in the gut. (Photo: Getty Images)
Coconut oil, acaí berries, kimchi, matcha, spelt: All are trendy health foods that are actually not new at all — just like kombucha, the hotter-than-ever fermented-tea beverage with a truly ancient history.
“It’s a tradition that dates back more than 2000 years,” Dr. William Li, author of Eat to Beat Disease, tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
Kombucha, a fizzy drink created by fermenting tea (most commonly black or green) and sugar with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast known as SCOBY, was first used for its healing properties in East Asia — initially in China, where it was beloved for its “energizing effects,” according to a comprehensive new study coauthored by epidemiologist Julie Kapp, Kombucha: a systematic review of the empirical evidence of human health benefit, published in the Annals of Epidemiology in February.
The elixir then made its way to Japan, before catching on in Russia, Germany, France, North Africa, Italy and, finally, Switzerland, when 1960s researchers noted it had health benefits similar to those of yogurt because it contains probiotics, which introduce new bacteria into the gut microbiome.
“This helps to increase the diversity and enrich healthy bacteria populations in your gut, which can have many beneficial effects ranging from improved immunity and lowered inflammation,” Li explains.
Today, in the U.S., you’ll not only find kombucha at any health-food store, but sharing shelf space with juices and sodas in an increasing number of regular delis and mini-marts. In fact, a recent MarketsandMarkets report showed sales of kombucha are expected to grow by 25 percent every year through 2020 to a value of $1.8 billion.
yahoo
But what scientific evidence do we actually have about the purported health benefits of drinking the bubbly, vinegar-like brew? Some. But less than you might believe, based on the hype surrounding kombucha.
“The health benefits have been touted, but not studied in a well-controlled environment,” Jo Ann Hattner, a San Francisco-based registered dietician and nutritionist and co-author of Gut Insight: Probiotics and Prebiotics for Digestive Health and Wellbeing, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. We do know that the drink contains probiotics, Hattner says, noting, “I have clients who drink kombucha because they want to enjoy a fermented drink and they want the live fungi and bacteria for their gut health. These clients are often looking for a fermented, dairy-free drink.”
But beyond the knowledge about probiotics — confirmed in lab tests of kombucha’s properties — we don’t have many studies to go on. That’s because the body of scientific evidence we do have is based on largely on animal testing, which leaves some experts skeptical.
“Besides having different biology, humans have a lot of distinct environmental and behavioral factors, so it’s important to conduct the human studies,” Kapp tells Yahoo Lifestyle, adding that we should give such animal-based studies “not too much” weight in assessing kombucha’s benefits. “We need to be cautious about expecting animal study results to predict humans’ real-world results.”
Tumblr media

There has been one human-based kombucha study, however, albeit small (and with no control group), which Kapp finds compelling. It has to do with blood-sugar levels, which is why some believe it could be an important tool in managing Type-2 Diabetes.
The study, from 2002, looked at 24 individuals with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, and found that, after 90 days of consuming just two liters of kombucha daily, subjects had a “significant reduction” of blood sugar levels, which remained stable for at least a month afterward. “The lead author's dissertation also describes improvements associated with the same intervention in individuals with mild hypertension or diverse medical problems,” noted Kapp in her scientific review. And while she tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the study “does not provide enough evidence to endorse kombucha,” it does “offer some leads for further research.”
Here’s a look at what else we know — and don’t exactly know — about the purported health benefits of kombucha:
GUT HEALTH
Because the fermentation process makes a drink that’s rich in probiotics, many believe that drinking kombucha is good for your gut health, providing a healthy blend of bacteria to absorb nutrition and fight off infection in a way that’s similar to that of fermented kimchi, sauerkraut or yogurt.
There was, in fact, one scientific analysis, in 2014, that identified the specific strains of kombucha’s bacteria. It found significant amounts of Gluconacetobacter (which merely creates cellulose) and Zygosaccharomyces, which merely create cellulose (a complex carbohydrate) and offer flavor, respectively. But it also found Lactobacillus, which is found in yogurt, and believed to possibly reduce cholesterol, help with Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms, and prevent vaginal infections.
Li — who is the medical director of the Angiogenesis Foundation, dedicated to “disrupting disease through angiogenesis,” the body’s process of growing blood vessels, touts fermentation and probiotics as good ways to fend off disease.
“Fermented foods and probiotics both add healthy bacteria to enhance your microbiome health defense system in the gut,” Li explains. “Many serious health conditions now are tied to abnormalities of the microbiome, including obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and systemic inflammation. When beneficial bacteria are absent, the immune system’s ability to detect and fight cancer cells is lessened. Overgrowth of unhealthy bacteria, on the other hand, can result in the release of harmful metabolites that can cause inflammation, which can fuel the growth of cancer cells.”
ANTIOXODANT POWERS
Li, a big proponent of green tea, notes that kombucha may share some of its beneficiary properties.
“The prebiotic action of green tea increases our gut’s population of healthy bacteria that produce short chain fatty acids. These fragments are produced as metabolites of gut bacteria and they have anti-inflammatory effects in the intestine,” he says.
Further, Li notes, green tea activates the body’s regenerative capabilities. “A study from Korea showed that consuming four cups green tea daily increased circulating stem cells by 43 percent over two weeks, and this was accompanied by improved blood vessel dilation by 29 percent.” Green tea also can calm the immune system, he says, noting there’s been evidence showing that drinking it can decrease symptoms in women with the autoimmune disease lupus.
CANCER PREVENTION
The anti-cancer potential for kombucha most likely come from the anti-angiogenic (cancer starving) properties of tea, Li explains. “Green tea contains a polyphenol called EGCG, which can starve cancers by cutting off their blood supply (anti-angiogenesis). Studies out of Vanderbilt University involving 69,700 people that shown that drinking two to three cups of green tea a day is associated with a 44 percent reduced risk of developing colon cancer.” Those are great reasons to opt for kombucha that’s been brewed from green tea, rather than black or red.
Further, he posits that an enriched microbiome may also better protect the body against cancer by boosting the immune system. But, he notes, “More research is needed, however, before kombucha can be regarded as having anti-cancer properties.”
Adds Karr, “There have not been human clinical trials yet testing whether kombucha can prevent cancer. At this point, kombucha health claims for humans and cancer are speculative or anecdotal. Nevertheless, there is a lot of science currently focused on probiotics and the microbiome, so it is an exciting time to study this area.”
Bottom line: Kombucha, although lacking a big body of scientific evidence in its favor, is refreshing, backed by centuries of use, and good for your gut.

It’s been a long couple of years...
So I always say I’m coming back and going to be more active on this account, but that has yet to happen….So, stay tuned and we’ll see how this goes.  But for now, let me give you “quick” recap of all the shit life has thrown at me since my last update.  (FYI-it will not be quick.)
But before I do, let me just warn you this is entirely unedited, raw, and definitely not pretty in the way that I dust myself off after falling in face first.  I’m writing for my own benefit and in the hopes that if anyone else is going through the same think-they might find comfort in knowing they’re not alone.  Because that’s how I feel right now, alone.
I’m sorry if we are friends or family, no matter our relationship, how close we are, you can still feel alone even if you are surrounded by people.  So please don’t feel as though I don’t consider you as someone close to me, chances are I have my own reasons for keeping you out of these messes.  So I’ll stay it once more, and then I’ll stop apologizing for my feelings and for putting them down.  This is not pretty, this isn’t happy and this not something you want someone to experience if you care for them.  But this is me, my depression and my life has been behind the my highlight reel of photos and reposts.
First off, I guess may account is semi-active.  I looked over my account and its linked to my Instagram, I post regularly there but let’s be real, those posts are the highest of my highlight-reel.  If I posted what actually happens in my daily life and how I respond to it you’d be both bored to death and ready to commit me into psychotic treatment, (which has come close to happening previously, so it’s not a joke, but I’ll go into great detail on that later).  My last actual text post was back in November of 2017, see link below.
http://fightingxdragonsxwithxyou.tumblr.com/post/167261821983/this-year-for-my-birthday
If you read the post you’ll get a taste of whats to come.  That post was depressing, but very refreshing for me, even going back to reading it again I can sense the relief it gave me then.  The post prior, dated October 26 exudes the amount of depression I was in.  I can feel the pain again just reading the words I put together, and as of now I can say at least things aren’t that bad again.   And the post a few days before that shows how my own mapping of depression scared the shit out of me.  Then theres a break, no posts, just instagram photos.  Prior to October 2017 things got bad, really bad and I know thats why theres a lack of anything.  I couldn’t process the crap myself, let alone put into words.
Jump back to February of 2015 and I was screaming for help, but clearly too scared to actually ask for it.   I think now I’m able to acknowledge  when Im in a depressive mood, but asking for help I’m still working on.  Maybe because I’m not exactly sure what help I want, or need. Further back to November of 2014 depression was kicking my ass, hard.  I saw a doctor, got more antidepressants and seemed to be doing ok.  I don’t mind the pills, if they work for me great.  I understand they aren’t for everyone, but for me they work and for that I am grateful.
The summer leading up to the pills working for me was a bad season, really bad.  I think my worst actually.  In a nutshell my psychiatrist and I discussed inpatient help.  I was too scared, but willing to try anything that could help, so she offered an outpatient program first. That did wonder on its own and things got better for a while.  I’ll go into more detail with that later.
2014 was just ugly all over. I was angry (though I still am) at my parents reaction and I know that’s where a lot of my anxiety stems from.  It looks like 2013 was just a yo-yo of emotions.  I mean thats my life as it is now, but I didn’t really document much of it so I’m assuming it was just a constant battle that I did ok with.  And 2012s posts indicate I was depressed, but still found things to obsess with and keep me occupied.  My moms battle was ending around that time, so I think being busy and still riding the cancer train kept pushing me but not necessarily in the healthiest of ways.  I was hurting-but too busy saving my moms life to realize it.  Life was too hectic to mention I had problems.  It was about memories, Taylor Swift, things I regret not doing, The Hunger Games, dance, thin-spration, pills drinking, things I wish I was and waiting for the fall out that was bound to come.
During my moms battle I was obsessed with everything Taylor Swift (obviously that hasn’t changed, she’s just the only thing cam bring me joy and comfort on my worst days when I just want to give in) but during her fight it was different.  Taylor’s music made me feel close and more connected to Kaley, it always has and always will, and that gave me comfort that I can’t really explain.  I feel in love with The Hunger Games, Twilight, dance anything, and I posted so much about that stuff because I think it calmed me and kept my mind busy while we sat in hospital rooms for chemo or scans or exams, anything.  Those things that I obsessed about made me feel like I wasn’t alone because of the smallest connection I found within it.
So there, there’s the quick recap.  I’m not sure if it makes sense to anyone, it's not exactly in chronological order, but just bits and pieces I was able to string together through my past posts.  Just writing this made me feel a little better, seeing how low I have been and realizing that I’m not nearly that close to being that low again, but also realizing that I still have a lot of work to do.  I’d like to keep going with this, to write down what has actually happened to me.  I think if it felt this good to just write this small bit, maybe getting more out there will help to.  We’ll see, I always say I’m going to, but never follow through.  So…if you care, stay tuned…we’ll see where I take this to next.
