Sketch - Tamlin's Manor: Spring Court 🌷🌿

Determined to get good at backgrounds/scenery. We'll see how long this lasts. 💀 I feel like most of the courts have some irl cultures in their aesthetics. To me, Spring, both the land itself and the people (Tamlin's face!) is a bit German.

I feel like also that's why Feyre's village is largely German-inspired to me--people have just forgotten with the wall going up. Tamlin's manor here takes a lot of inspiration, accordingly, esp from Neuschwanstein Castle.

We all know how High Lord is blonde and beautiful, with green eyes and the ability to shapeshift into an antlered bear-wolf, but we all also have our little headcanons for his appearance. Does he always have his antlers? A tail? Is he more lithe with hidden strength or a big, bulky male? What about his outfit?

I've been wanting to do Lucien as Black Widow ever since I started playing Marvel Rivals. This took forever and I know it's not perfect, but I am exhausted so I will label this complete for now!

This one was so fun once I figured out a good design! Something hyper fem/masc simultaneously about Tam to me--all faeries of course, but esp the spring court! Wanted to capture the power of a High Lord as well as Tam's quiet disposition, & the shape-shifting through his mask. Considered making the bg more spring-y, but felt there's a certain level of heaviness to all the High Lords that wasn't working compositionally with flowers.

As far as technique, I'm really, REALLY proud of this one. :) Elain + Nyx's piece took maybe two weeks. This took three months! Multiple storyboards, two rounds of sketching, five rounds of rendering... 😥

I guess just wanted to see if I could! Stick with something that long, care that much. I tend to take shortcuts with the things I hate or I find hard (e.g. backgrounds 🫣) and to finish a product faster. It's maybe my best piece in years! I wish art online valued process over constant posting. This half-hiatus, focusing on uninterrupted drawing, was so beneficial. 🙏

One thing that frustrated me was a lot of the references I ended up using turned out to be AI. :/ Didn't realize till my friend pointed it out. It's really difficult to find references for this sort of fantasy art, so if you know any artists I can check out instead of blindly Googling, please let me know!
