Taking The Bit
For her birthday, Jetty asked for a Kitty and Seth story, and I have done my best to give her something I think she'll enjoy. 2600 words. the whole tag for their adventures is here!
Seth wasn’t given to complimenting the world about much of anything, but she had to admit there was something she loved about the busy market days just before a festival. Bakeries opened their doors, the fresh scent of breads pouring into the street, baskets filled with loaves decorated with nuts, and fruits, and carvings of birds. Casks of wine, ready for tapping, hefted onto tables. All manner of things grown and gathered, brushing up against the freshly hung animals of that morning’s slaughter. It was a feast for the sense, and it made me people merry, and merry people didn’t generally cause Seth any trouble, and, more importantly, were easy to convince of almost anything.
She and Kitty had been in this town only a day or two, a spot between an Elvish city and some human outpost with a cat wizard as their queen, both of whom were rumored to have information on the oracle who’d prophesied Seth’s birth, and her coming into the power, and how she was chosen. Regrettably, it seemed like said oracle was now dead, and so it would be a long week of asking questions of people, some of whom knew, and wouldn’t talk, and some of whom didn’t know, but desperately wanted to be included, and Seth wasn’t sure which she hated more.
But whatever annoying things lay in the future, Seth was here now, with Kitty, and it was good to be at a market on festival day, sitting on her back as she strolled up to the open window of a tavern where beer came to the streets with a smile.
The sounds of bards and small-time circus performers rang through the air, but Seth could hear the whispers beneath them, like a far-off brook in the middle of a dark forest. Kitty either didn’t notice or decided getting her beer was more important as she spoke to the man in the window. Seth should be used to it by now, the way people looked at the two of them. Centaurs were never seen anywhere, any exchanges done by only a handful of merchants that ventured to the north and didn’t mind their gruff manner and intense insularity.
Seth often thought that if she ever decided to retire from challenging her own destiny, she might convince Kitty to become a trader with her. She could get better deals from the centaurs with Kitty as her partner, and Seth had her finger on the pulse of what was popular in all the different cities, as well as what would be popular if the centaurs could be talked into anything but simple exchanges of grain and antler knives. Seth’s mind began to swim with the possibilities: Kitty wore a belt and hatband with a sort of carved and dyed leather, and Seth had seen the looks given to it in the towns, and that little beaded pin in her hatband? The tiny knife she carried that could fold, and had a running centaur inlaid into the antler? All this suggesting craftwork that Kitty didn’t seem to think exceptional, but Seth knew would sell for top dollar; Kitty was impressed by silly things like painted silk anyhow. To say nothing of her extreme wealth once she convinced them to sell the secret of that revolving gun--
“Seth Fuzlae and Kitty McCrae, you are under arrest for theft, conspiracy to commit murder, public drunkenness, public nuisance, smuggling, assault, extortion, trespass, forgery, breach of prison, and public nudity.”
Seth was torn from her reverie and imminent wealth by a city guard with a paunch and a flopping mustache, who unfortunately was accompanied by five much more impressive-looking friends
Kitty turned back to Seth. “How many of those’d we do?”
“At least half.” She spread her arms wide to the police officers, “Oh, fine officers of the law! This is simply a case of mistaken identity, not our first, I’m afraid.”
“Heh.” He put his hands on his hips. “Just another green haired gnome and patchy centaur out on the town, is it?”
“It’s called a paint pattern.” Kitty said, finishing her beer and slmmaing the tankard back on the windowsill.
“Of course!” Seth stood up on Kitty’s back and gave her a light kick. “Certainly you can’t think that only one gnome may have green hair, nor that you be the only blonde human, nor that my centaur friend here cannot have a similar coat to any other.”
He barely acknowledged her. “You’ll be coming with us.”
The group of six tightened around them, and Kitty backed herself against the wall. There was no hesitation in any of them, swords drawn, advancing slowly but all too steadily as Seth tried to think.
“Welp,” Kitty started for her gun,her brow furrowed “I’ve no intention of going in.”
“Interesting fact! We don’t have to!” She hissed into Kitty’s ear. “These people have never seen a centaur, not a real one.”
Seth was speaking to Kitty, but it occurred to her she may as well be speaking to herself, for all Kitty paid attention when she was angry.
“Kitty, you can’t shoot all of them.” Seth whispered through gritted teeth.
“Hide and watch.” Kitty’s hand gripped the butt of her pistol, and Seth leapt off her back in front of the police.
“Would we really find a centaur the most clever outlaw?” Seth gestured widely. “I told you, officers, that we’ve been mistaken for this Seth and Kitty before.”
The policemen crossed their arms. “Aye?”
“And I understand!” Seth’s charm, when she wasn’t being actively hateful, could be quite, well, charming, and she was fully using it now, drawing the men into her story. “Perhaps we bear a passing resemblance. But gentlemen, as a world-famous,” with this she stretched her hands across the sky, “centaur trainer, let me tell you, they are no great masterminds of crime.” She laughed. “May a cow be a thief? A sheep turn traitor?”
“Centaur trainer?”
She bowed low. “Qeck Zizulpless, known throughout towns and nations for my entertainments, you’ve heard of me no doubt. I come to join the entertainers of the market, for this your great festival”
The men looked at each other, but none of them seemed confident enough in the face of her bravado to deny it.
She bowed low and called out to the passersby. “Come one! Come all! See the magnificent and storied DANCING CENTAURS of the far lands!” She learned toward the men, who leaned in toward her, mystified by no magic other than Seth’s own personal charm. “My steed, Pearl Birch.”
They looked at Kitty, staring, and Seth looked back at her, quietly mouthing, ‘come on.’
There was a pause, and everyone in the street held their breath for a moment, waiting to see.
Kitty snorted and pawed at the ground with her hoof, shaking her head.
Seth gave a deep sigh of relief and continued on her dramatic speech. “Such things as you have never seen, far and wide! A TRAINABLE CENTAUR.” She gestured to the crowd. “I captured her myself, as a colt, her parents slain by wolves,” she tried not to look back at Kitty, hoping she was simply still pretending to be the stupid animal the larger world already took her for, “I raised this wild creature and she trusts only me! Stand back!”
A man clutched his child a little tighter, and Seth’s eyes glistened with the joy of the con. There was an undeniable joy in making people think what you wanted, even more so when they only needed to be compelled by her mouth and not her magic.
Even the guards were standing and watching, their swords drooping as they stared at Kitty, the wonder in their faces. Wonder that Seth was extremely ready to turn into fear.
“Now centaurs, of course, are dangerous animals, attacking even each other in great warlike bands,” She turned around and looked directly at Kitty, “KICKING their enemies to death.”
Kitty took the cue, and slammed her back legs into the wall behind her, the plaster cracking and trembling, a piece of shale falling from the roof. The crowd gasped, and one child burst into tears.
“Now Pearl,” Seth began to walk backwards slowly, her palms outstretched. “I want you to walk toward me. Slowly. Me. See only me. Forward, girl!”
Kitty slowly stepped toward Seth, who was backing her way toward the apparent captain of all of these guards, the one with the mustache that Seth thought his loved ones should be kind enough to tell him looked incredibly stupid. Kitty stepped heavy, slamming every hoof down into the ground as everyone stared, silent.
Seth felt herself in the shadow of the captain, and drew Kitty just a little closer to her. Her eyes glinted as she raised a fist to the sky.
“Pearl! Up!”
Kitty reared on her back legs, the image of her so striking against the wide blue of the sky that one person muttered a prayer to some small-time God, and then, after a few held seconds, Seth brought down her hand, and Kitty reacted in perfect concert, thudding her hooves down right in front of the captain, who suddenly looked as if he’d never heard of Seth Fuzlae.
Seth laughed and turned around, backing away from the captain and working the crowd, Kitty still glaring at the man in front of her.
“But that’s not all! No! Hold your coins!” Seth tossed her hair “And perhaps they will multiply. As I show you something not seen outside of the arcane and mysterious realms, where I received my training in the calming of wild beasts. In these lands, far away, and long-hidden, the finest of their trained warriors, sujch as myself, prove their worth in a dance with their mount, as I will show you today.”
Seth strode confidently over to Kitty and clucked her tongue toward her. Kitty obediently set Seth on her back, though Seth really did wish she would stop glaring at that man like she meant to kill him later and just enjoy the show. She had no flair for the theatrical and it was her greatest flaw, short of thinking her should shoot her way out of anything.
“It is an ancient kind of dance they call...DRESSAGE! Bard!” She pointed to a man with a lute “Some music, please!”
Seth sat down on Kitty’s back, trook up the strap on Kitty’s holster, and took a deep breath. She wouldn’t reach into Kitty’s mind. She had promised she never would, and she never had. It wasn’t that Seth minded breaking a promise, but it seemed wrong after they’d spent this time together in a way it seemed merely a way to keep Kitty from abandoning her earlier. Maybe she was getting soft in her old age.
In any case, she simply had to hope that Kitty would understand what she meant. That she would feel it.
“Hup hup!”
As the bard’s jaunty little tune began, Seth gave a little bounce on Kitty’s back, and she responded, bouncing forward so slowly that she almost seemed to be standing in place. The crowd began to point, and clap, and a young man pulled on the reins of his horse, who simply looked at him, annoyed. The music continued as she pulled lightly on Kitty’s side, and Kitty crossed her legs one over the other, gpoing in a sideways motion, to the awed gaze of the crowd, hands dansheing to mouths as Seth swayed her head and gestured with a wide smile. Kitty turned in a tight pirouette as she hopped, children digging into their parents’ pouches for coins.
Seth indicated to the bard that she wanted a big finish, and he sped up, as Kitty broke into a small gallop and turned around a cask of ale, then another of wine, running back to the crowd as Seth took Kitty’s hat off and held it out to the waiting crowd, who applauded wildly as Kitty stopped and reared once more, the crowd throwing coins as Seth beamed. Of course, a few of them struck Kitty and Seth, so after a moment, they swept down to the crowd, holding out that hat as it grew nearly too heavy for Seth to carry.
“Never forget!” Seth proclaimed, making her voice boom with her natural vigor and a touch of magic, “The fine, fine trick you have seen played this day. Remember the name of Qeck Zizulpless, wizard of the time, tamer of terrifying, and--”
Kitty gave an annoyed, and, Seth meant to tell her later, a very fake sounding, whinny.
“But we must fly from here, for there is yet another festival that awaits us, new people seeking to be amazed! By feats unknown, and dangers unfeared. Gentleman.” She tipped the edge of Kitty’s hat and very nearly lost a coin. “Pearl! Away!”
They galloped off into the forest before anyone had the time to think that it was anything but the finest show they had ever seen. It was silly to think of a centaur as a criminal anyhow.
____
Seth counted her money, as she sat by a low fire on the edge of a meadow. It was true, though, the larger part of her said. Well, their money she supposed, though there was a part of her that loathed thinking that way. They were partners, now, whether either of them wanted to admit it, or not. Kitty had made a passable stew, and set it in front of Seth wordlessly, much as she’d done anything since they’d left the town.
Seth had long since given up on trying to figure out what Kitty was thinking at any given moment. Luckily, Seth didn’t think this took much figuring.
“You know I don’t think that, right?” Seth stared into her bowl of stew pointedly. “That centaurs are...animals.”
Kitty ladled some stew into her bowl and shrugged. “I know.”
“It’s just--”
“I get it, Seth. You gotta dance with them what brung you and if everyone believes a thing sometimes it’s alright to let that thing be true to save your own hide.” She settled in next to the fire and tore off a piece of bread, rending the wing from a bird on the brown crust. “The Great Mare always tells us to be the best we can, as much as we can, but life’s also life and you saved our asses today. I woulda tried to shoot my way out of it, and we know how that woulda gone.”
The fire crackled in agreement.
She dipped her bread in the stew. “Pragmatism’s not a sin, Seth.”
“I didn’t say I was sorry, Kitty.” She brushed her hair out of her face. “I’m glad I didn’t let you die like an idiot today, WHICH YOU WOULD HAVE.” she stirred her stew. “I said it was important to me that you know I don’t think that about you. I don’t think you’re just an animal.”
“Thanks.” Kitty studied her bowl intensely.
“I mean, I think you’re dumb in an entirely non-animal way.”
Her head snapped up. “You ever think ‘I should stop talking ‘bout one sentence earlier,’ or does that just never occur to you?”
“I think we should keep that dressage act as something--”
Kitty leaned forward and reached for the skin of wine. “You can forget about that right damn now, you little--”
“I saved your life!” Seth tried to grab for the skin, pulling it back.
Somewhere, something laughed, and something settled, and another piece of the prophecy might have slid into place.

Media I’ve Experienced in 2024 (March)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica:Rebellion (8/10)-Big Cake Round Cake Right in Front of Me!
The Little Mermaid 2023 (6/10)-The singing was good besides that wack Awkwafina rap
Craig Before The Creek (8/10)-While I liked Craig of the Creek, I wouldn’t call myself a fan but this prequel was pretty fun into was the main characters were like before
Madame Web (0/10)-No reason to watch, awful effects, bland characters, boring story
Megaman X5 (7/10)-Honestly, the story was kind of stale but the gameplay was still top notch
Peacemaker (9/10)-After playing him in Mortal 1 Kombat, I loved this show. Fun characters, funny dialogue, and some pretty good fights
Megaman X6 (5/10)-Guilty pleasure, while a lot of it was annoyingly hard, I liked the virus stuff and the story
Avenue Q (9/10)-Pretty emotional musical about adulthood despite being played by muppets
Kung Fu Panda 4 (6/10)-Waaay too safe, the villain was intimidating until being defeated in 3 hits
Secrets of the Furious Five (8/10)-Pretty neat special, I liked the Furious Five from their movie screentime and the show and this helped fleshed them out
The Button of Doom (6/10)-While not as good as the movie. This is something Megamind 2 wishes it could be
South Park (8/10)-After 26 Seasons, this show is still pretty good. It has moments that make me laugh while still being shocking and there are characters I find likable to watch like Butters and Kenny
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (10/10)-Takes my favorite disk of FFVII and expands hard on it. Traversal feels freeing, the locations feel more full, and the story takes some wild turns.
Smiling Friends Season 1 (8/10)-This shows that adult cartoons don’t have to be about nihilism and can be about hope and enjoying life.
Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy (3/10)-While I find Seth MacFarlane funny this didn’t do it for me. The comedy while having decent setups, is ultimately too lazy to make it funny
Megaman X7 (4/10)-Gameplay was repetitive, the voice acting was bad but hey still liked it more than X3
Megaman X8 (8/10)-The gameplay is pretty fun this time, and Lumine is a pretty good villain if they expanded her more
Megaman X:The Day of Sigma (5/10)-The animation is good don’t get me wrong but the pacing couldn’t keep me engaged
Saw (7/10)-Pretty good story about someone who wants to help people realize they want to live by putting them in death traps
Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Manga (Currently 8/10)-My favorite anime is Fairy Tail and this sequel expands pretty well, the Dragon Gods concept is interesting, the characters are still as they were which is how I like them, and the art during fights are really well detailed
Hello Kitty Super Style (9/10)-I love Supercute Adventures and this show honestly feels like if we got a full 11 minute show.
Mortal Kombat 1995 (8/10)-Fun action and characters. Effects didn’t age the best
Grave of The Fireflies (9/10)-Really emotional movie about those suffering during war
Persona 3 Reload (10/10)-The best gameplay and presentation Persona has ever been.
Godzilla:King of Monsters (9/10)-Really cool action and monsters
King Kong:Skull Island (8/10)-Pretty good story and action
Godzilla 2014 (5/10)-Probably spoiled by how good future Monsterverse but the spectacle was kind of forgettable
Godzilla vs Kong (10/10)-Yup still as fun as I remember it
Hunter X Hunter 2011 (9/10)-As much as I want to strangle Gon the rest of the series is pretty fire
Kaguya Sama Love is War!:The First Kiss That Never Ends (9/10)-Pretty funny and emotional movie
Komi Can’t Communicate (9/10)-Fluttershy as an anime girl
My Senpai Is Annoying (8/10)-I came in wanting Kurobe, left loving Futaba and Takeda
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon:Explorers of Sky-Beyond Time and Darkness (5/10)-The dub is too goofy
OFF The RPG (Opinion Has Changed as of September) (8/10)-Originally I found the fights boring and the fact I was softlocked made it lower. That was a mistake. The story is really haunting and dark, the fights are really basic but not bad, and the locations have an eerie feeling to them
One Piece Film Z (10/10)-Z is a really intimidating villain and the action is pretty good
My Little Pony:The Manga (7/10)-Cute artwork, I wish the stories were better

Two in One Responses to my Filipino Friend and my A-Pal.
First Response.
The Town in Kingdom Hearts 3 in the Toy Story World does look similar to how the setting was with Doc McStuffins. Normally i wasn't a huge fan of the show myself and even when my BFF from High School has told me about it before as well as for my sister. But having Doc McStuffins in Kingdom Hearts would sound like if i get caught by Disney for using Kingdom Hearts without including Disney franchises can be a huge double whammy for Disney. Especially if they told me to update my game, Kingdom Smash by including a few Disney Franchises for the game. Because with Shadow, he might have to accept it even when Sora, Mickey, Donald and Goofy went up to Shadow, Lisa, Maxwell and Yinna. And they said, "Shadow R, you must bring a few Disney franchises to your game. Otherwise, you and your friends will surrender to Sora and Riku and us, and you guys will surely lose the fight." "Which i know that sounds like something Team Rocket would say when "Surrendering to them and prepare to fight." Much like how Cassidy and Butch say when their moto to Team Rocket was like. And it'll be like if Shadow and his friends would refuse their offer, but in order to not refuse, i imagined a few Disney Franchises that would be Perfect for Kingdom Smash as well as for having to have room for a Kingdom Hearts 4 when it comes out soon after being made. So, for Disney Franchises, all i can think of is Bluey, Super Kitties, PB and J Otter, Kiff, And maybe Sheriff Callie. And it sounds like i was including Kids shows to the game. And good thing i wouldn't include Big City Greens. Otherwise, it would sound like a Double Whammy like putting in too many Fire Emblem characters to Smash Bros. Ultimate. And if Fox found out about my game, maybe Matt Groening, Seth Macfarlane and Lauren Bouchard might do a crossover with their franchises and have the Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob's Burgers to have the characters play my online game and form a party together. Like all the kids and adults were like trapped in the game world. A bit like when i drew Maxwell, May and Sam getting connected to the Game World like Sword Art Online and Ready Player One and even Free Guy.
And with the Mario Galaxy game which that's my Second Response to you guys.
I have owned that game too. When i rented Mario Galaxy 2 at Blockbuster, i haven't tried out the first one, so my mom got me the first one for Christmas while giving me Rabbids Go Home on the Wii. I do enjoy Mario Galaxy because the music sometimes puts me at ease and even the worlds are fun to explore. I haven't beat the game yet, even if i can still play Mario Galaxy on the Switch from the Mario 3D All Star game which i also got a copy as well. Which is downloaded on my Nintendo Switch. And i also got the 2nd Mario Galaxy on the Wii as well since it's really good too. That's why i do enjoy Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. And if our OCs wanted to travel through Space and different planets and galaxies, then i bet it'll be a lot of fun for our OCs to go on that adventure. Like with Sonic X and the Orbital Children. I have watched that on Netflix since the anime is directed by the same director who worked on Gundam and Evangelion. And it was cool that Cassandra Morris and Colleen O'Shaughnessy are in it. But i hope they're both doing okay even if Tails and Morgana should get along.
But mostly, we'll hope Shadow and Spot might take Maxwell, Lisa, the Speedsters and the Rabbits as well as for Emme and Jo on this Galaxy adventure.

April Fools Pathfinder Session
Well, votes are being cast in the survey set up by my good friend Doc, and it looks like this Sunday we will be live streaming the April Fools Pathfinder session. I'm excited, and at least some of you are as well, so with that in mind, here are some things that you, the public, might want to know going in.
This is the point where I tell all my regular Pathfinder players to stop reading and do not pursue this post under the cut. You know who you are. Do not anger the unseen fates that govern your dice!
This session will be a continuation of sorts from our very first Pathfinder adventure two and a half years ago, "Don't Eat the Sewer Cheese." If you haven't watched that adventure, and you have four and a half hours of free time available, and are willing to overlook my gut and terrible shaggy hair, then you can view it here: https://youtu.be/5uQ5D8Ahq8s
For those unable to adhere to one or more of those conditions (I get it, the hair is really something), here's what you need to know: intrepid, uh, "heroes" Seth, Kitty and Petunia, along with carnies Eren and Calcedony, set off to rescue townspeople abducted by an unknown group. The search led them along the streets of the city, into the house (and underwear drawer) of a kidnapped-and-presumably-hot alchemist, through the sewers, and ultimately to a small military fort outside of the city which had been commandeered by goblins and other ruffians. Our heroes attempted to bluff their way in by posing as pest inspectors, unsuccessfully. And shortly after that... We ran out of time.
But there was much left to do in the adventure which it now seems unlikely we will ever return to properly. That has always bugged me. So, this Sunday, we will answer the question: how does that adventure end? And in the spirit of the bizarre and unpredictable nature of April Fools, we will answer it by finding out what happened when the first party failed, alternate universe "What If" style. Each game session is like a tree with many branches, only a few climbed. This time, we will climb a branch where the party of the first adventure gained access to the fort and lost horribly as a result. Where does the story go from there? I hope you'll join us to find out.
Of course, to answer this question we need new characters, and boy is this party a doozy. What started off as an off-comment from Jill became the backbone for a party that the Breakfast Club would be proud of.
To succeed where others have failed, the table will be fielding:
- An armless (and dickless!) wizard.
- A "showtunes" bard, who must reference/sing actual relevant showtunes whenever casting spells or using any bard singing abilities.
- A "drunken master" monk, whose player must take shots at the table to restore ki power.
- Finally, a "catwere" rogue. What's a catwere? Well, think of a wolfwere (look it up), except with a domesticated cat. This player will have to communicate with her teammates exclusively through cat noises and gestures.
All of these characters have been customized with house rules and original magical items and effects. The focus of this session will be fun, not necessarily balance. Our normal sessions are a blast, and I think is going to be a thing. If you only watch one adventure this year featuring an armless wizard and a lycanthropic street cat, make it this one.

The God of Small Luck
As some of you know we get pathfnder bonus points or whatever for contributing to the story outside of the game, but this one conferred me an extra bonus: Trolling Jetty. Due to some miscommunication, her character was supposed to get Divine Favor and Zone of Truth when she leveled up but...didn’t. I argued that this was pretty much in keeping with Seth’s relationship with her deity(?) and so it became that if I wrote a fic about this happening, and she didn’t write a parry, she had to keep the spells she got. I’ve been kicking this idea around for nearly a month, and I hope you enjoy. 1800 words
Note: Shekinah (Shay) is my mom’s character, a half-elf witch.
All her life, Seth Fuzlae had wanted to KNOW.
Why is the sky blue? Where do the stars come from? Who was the first storyteller? She would ask any adult who would listen, unsatisfied with any answer she received, always searching for what she considered to be the truth. Reading came as a boon to her--words always seemed more truthful when you laid them out in ink, at least they did when she was young--and so she discovered her own answers to these questions, and discovered that some of them were still waiting to be answered.
But still, she was never satisfied.
She became even less satisfied upon discovering that no one quite knew the answer as to why she was the chosen one, or why she would have to give her life (It always unnerved Seth that the phrase could be taken a variety of ways, and death seemed the least distressing) for this nebulous idea of a destiny. Books held no answers, and as much as she would like to have determined that it was a lie, the lack of book binding did not seem to allay the very real signs that Seth was bought to this fate, whatever it was.
Curse. Gift. It was both, and neither, twin snakes curving around her as artfully as any caduceus, waiting to strike.
However, Seth was no quitter, even if that was the most reasonable course of action, and so she had wrestled those snakes, tied them to her knapsack, and gone off into the world, seeking whoever or whatever had laid this upon her, ready to demand an explanation. They would be their own undoing, as Seth meditated and projected and incanted in all the ways she knew, and as her powers grew, she would come to fight the very thing from which her power flowed, She would deny it the meal it hoped for.
And so, she sat across the table from her friend, she supposed it was now fair to say, who stood at the edge of the table, standing and holding her bowl of oatmeal. Even at the highest table in the human village, she was too tall for it, but Kitty seemed rather used to it by now, and, as Seth often did in the opposite direction adapted.
“You know I love hearin’ your plans to kill God, but,” She pushed back the brim of her hat, “any particular reason it’s comin’ up the morning after we damn near got arrested?”
“Oh like we don’t almost get arrested all the time.” She scowled.
Kitty was the only person Seth trusted with any of the truth of her past, which was irrevocably tied to her future. Kitty and she had gone along together for a long time now, and she could always count on Kitty to never pry too hard about where Seth had come from, to pretend to ignore Seth’s hand, and to never open her mouth to another human being about the things she did know. Seth treated her the same, and the bits and pieces she knew about why Kitty had left home stayed locked in her mind and in her mouth.
But if there was to be a negative about Kitty, the first thing Seth would put on the list was a certain practicality that left little room for Seth’s sense of presentation and occasion.
She sighed, knowing that her dramatic and eerie and, she thought, very well practiced speech was a complete waste on the centaur across from her, whose main sense of wonder came from the dried fruit in her oatmeal.
“Because, my pearl-buttoned friend,” she looked up at Kitty, “I am on the eve of recieving more power. I can feel it, they can’t deny me any longer. And I,” She sat up straight and grinned, “am going to receive that which is due me. Knowledge, and luck.”
“Sure.” Kitty picked out a raisin.
“You really are fortunate to have me around, I’ll be able to find out the truth from anyone we come across, and the God--Gods--power--thing that cursed me will have no choice but to grant me favor in combat, and,” she leaned forward conspiratorially, “I just MIGHT ask them to bless you with luck.”
Kitty looked at her a moment, took a sip of her coffee, and then looked off.
“I have a couplea questions. Or thoughts, I spose.”
Seth tossed back her mess of hair. “I’m always here to enlighten you.”
“Number one, luck’s a poor thing to rely on, and can’t take the place of skill or steel, Seth.” She took another sip, as if putting a final period on the thought.
Seth took her own drink, the brightly colored foam dotting her nose. “Listen, I know you people like plows more than prophecy, but you’ve been traveling with me and Shay long enough that you can’t not believe in it.”
Kitty shook her head. ‘Didn’t say I didn’t believe in it, said I didn’t rely on it. Number two,” she said, refusing to answer further, “I have known ya to be a good many things in my life, many of which I appreciate. Lucky’s never been on of ‘em.”
“Yes,” Seth sighed dramatically and rolled her eyes, “That’s what this is going to address. Obviously.”
“Right, so,” Kitty hunkered down to the table so her eyes were directly across from Seth’s, “How in hell do ya know that whatever it is that gives ya this power’s gonna give ya the power ya want? That thing ya gotta ride with doesn’t seem particularly inclined toward your preferences generally, if ya follow me.”
“Oh Kitty,” Seth laughed, “I have learned how to interact with this mystical crown which has been set upon my head, ready to struggle and do battle and to--”
“Lord.”
“Really wrestle with the gods themselves, and while they are not yet on the ropes, I do know how to get a punch or two in. I have done an immense amount of reading on the subject, and they’ll simply have no choice but to give me what I ask for.”
She crossed her arms, sat back, and smiled.
Kitty looked at her flatly. “‘Kay.”
“Don’t say okay that way I know that means you don’t believe me I have it perfectly worked out and---”
_________________________
That night, Seth sat at her bed, eyes closed, slowly letting the breath come in and out, as she focused her thoughts on her desires. Truth. Favor. She wove her will throughout the words, tying them into herself like ribbons of a maypole, over and under and around, until she was coveered completely in the weavings of the magic.
It would come. She knew this, as she squeezed the stone in her hand, the one Kitty had shook her head as she traded several gold for. Kitty couldn’t possibly have known the way this would guide the divine will of the god, or gods, or whatever her patron and pursuer happened to be. In her other hand was a brightly colored feather, something she’d picked up weeks ago but had come to use as a stand-in for herself in these sort of invocations, something that felt tied to her.
She slept, or didn’t. She dreamed, or prophesied.
In either case, the darkness came.
Morning came with it, following on its heels like a dog after the fox, and Seth awoke seemingly as soon as she slept.
It had worked. She could feel a surge of power within her, some glow, as if several candles had been added to a dark hallway, and she could see so many things now laid out before her. The power was hers, and she was ready to use it.
She had promised Kitty, early on in their friendship, that she would never get into her head without permission, and so, as Kitty stood in the corner buttoning up her shirt, she wouldn’t use her newfound powers of truth. She was a gnome of honor, and of her word.
But she had never promised Kitty that she would not use her powers at all, and so her hand moved to the pistol laid on the table, trying not to grin as she did so. She would shoot Kitty’s hat off, without harming her, just a gentle blow-by on the brim, and Kitty would see that she had this new power, this luck Kitty claimed she never had, and then Kitty would laugh, and suggest she use this in some cheap and low way, like for dice.
Okay, maybe Seth would use it for dice too, but not right AWAY.
Seth closed her eyes, focusing her energy on the new power inside of her, hands gripping the pistol tightly. Luck. Luck. Luck. She heard the words spin her head, the words that she would bring forth to call this in future, written on her mind like the ink she had loved as a child, and she felt her body vibrate with energy and power.
She fired.
The next half-second was not exactly as Seth had seen it. The shot went off, and Seth was blown backward into the side of the bed. Kitty’s hat shot off as she ducked, swearing furiously, a hole appearing right at the edge of the crown where Kitty’s head had been moments before. There was a bright ping as the bullet ricocheted off the stone wall, and headed right back for Seth, who could do nothing but watch in horror as it came to her chest.
There was another clink as it bounced off, and under the bed.
“WHAT IN THE FULL HELL UNDER THE MARE’S MOON ARE YA DOING?!” Kitty looked at her with wild eyes, her finger through the hole in her hat.
“I”M SUPPOSED TO BE LUCKY NOW!!” Seth stood up. “BUT--”
“DAMN RIGHT YOU’RE LUCKY, LUCKY I DON’T KILL YA WHERE YA STAND!”
“Girls!” Shay was at the door, her dress flowing and her hair coiffed already, in her strange, elegant sense, “What is going on in here?”
“Seth tried to shoot me, near’s I can figure.” She jammed the tarnished hat on her head and scooped the pistol off the ground.
“No! I mean,” she paused, “Yes, but not--” She looked to Shay as if she were a child explaining to her mother, “I got new powers last night! I was supposed to--”
“Oh yes!” Shay patted her hands together excitedly, “Ironskin! I see! How lovely, but if I could suggest you NOT try new spells with--”
“WHAT??” Seth looked down, and there it was shimmering iron haze about her skin, unbending, “no...I was supposed to get--you have to be kidding me” She closed her eyes and focused on truth, temporarily forgetting her promise to Kitty, and then opened them, “Kitty, did you sleep with that girl back in Nelesee?”
“None of your goddamn business, and also--”
Seth angrily shoved at the side table next to her, slamming it into the wall.
“Oh!” Shay chirped excitedly “Bull’s Strength! How useful!”
Seth moaned and sank to the floor. All her life Seth Fuzlae had wanted to know the answers t every question, but in the particular moment, there was only one:
Why me?

MM13'S TF Preferences:
Characters I'd Love To TF Into: Any Dan Aykroyd character (human characters mostly but Beldar is allowed too, even if it's Grocer, Wade Motch or Tom Everett, Aykroyd is my favorite SNL cast member), any Tim Burton character but either any character that was played by Johnny Depp, Adam Maitland, Betelgeuse, or the Hessian (you can also make me Max Shreck, Danny Devito's Penguin, any of the apes from the POTA remake, and heck one of my avatars was Otho Fenlock, it would be interesting to see what you could do with that, i've always wondered what having the voice of the late Glenn Shadix would be like), Jebediah Morningside/Tall-Man (Phantasm), Dawn Bellwether (Zootopia), Santanico Pandemonium (From Dusk Till Dawn), Jerry Dandridge (Fright Night 1985), Herbert West (Reanimator) - I am mad about Jeffrey Combs so it would be awesome to be Herbert West (or Milton Dammers or HP Hatecraft), Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare On Elm Street), Ludban (Leprechaun), Genie (Aladdin, only Robin Williams will do. I wouldn't mind being any of Robin's other roles either), Lady Amalthea (Last Unicorn), Lady Dimitrescu (Resident Evil: Village), Ash Williams (Evil Dead franchise), Hades (Hercules), Collector (Demon Knight), any Kyle Machlachlan character but in particular Dale Cooper or Paul Atreides, Salazzle, Lopunny (both in anthro form would work just fine), Angela Franklin (Night Of The Demons), Elvira (Elvira: Mistress of the Dark), Any South Park character (i'd like to try something with the adult versions of the kids from the recent specials), Any Simpsons Character (Treehouse of Horror is a must) teen versions of the Ghoul School Girls from Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School, Any Monster High character, Abe Sapien (Hellboy), Morticia Addams (Addams Family/Addams Family Values), Jareth (Labyrinth), Pinhead (Hellraiser), Annie Wilkes (Misery), Helen Hyde (Doctor Jekyll and Ms Hyde), Any Stallone character but in particular John Spartan (Demolition Man), Felicia (Darkstalkers), Bowsette, Any Bojack Horseman character (Beatrice, Bojack, Hollyhock or maybe any of the other animal-people chaacers too), Any Sing character but Buster Moon in particular, Carrigan Crittenden (Casper), Mirage (Aladdin tv series), Randall Flagg, humanoid style werewolves think Teen Wolf or Big Wolf On Campus, humanoid/anthro style Pokemon, Honey Monster (Sugar Puffs, either the actual HM himself or a Honey Monster in general).
Would Enjoy It: Akasha (Queen Of The Damned), Iago (Aladdin) - I like the idea of making Iago anthro or humanoid and well I cannot say no to having Gilbert Gottfried's voice, Scar (Lion King) - I have an anthro version of Scar I did a picture of (I made him a professor in my 'Prideland University' concept which is basically if the Lion King's characters were anthro and went to college), Professor Ratigan (Great Mouse Detective) - highly underappreciated, would be good to be him or Basil (or that sexy Miss Kitty mouse too), Lillith (Bordello Of Blood), Minerva Mink (Animaniacs), Julie Bruin (Tiny Toon Adventures), Seth Brundle (The Fly 1986), Grandmaster (Thor: Ragnarok), Philoctetes (Hercules) - Yes, to Danny Devito, yes...yes, yes. Selene (Underworld), any alien character from a movie or show but in particular Jumba or Pleakley or Gantu for example (Lilo and Stitch) and also maybe Mork from Mork and Mindy, Pete (Disney), Any Biker Mice character but Vinnie in particular (i'm also considering Lawrence Limburger or a plutarkian in general, but i'm having trouble deciding on how i'd do it), Sil (Species), Peggy Bundy (Married With Children), Weyoun (Star Trek: DS9). Anthro version of any MLP character (I have a whole section of humanoid/anthro MLP characters you can choose from or ones I can choose from, but i'd like to be Discord, Chrsaylis/Chrissy or King Sombra or Tirek or Cheese Sandwich, can't beat Weird Al), Any of Jay Leno's Tonight Show characers (Iron Jay, Mr Brain or Evil Jay perhaps), Kronk or Kuzco (Emperor's New Groove), Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), Serleena (Men In Black II), Live-action Grinch, Vacendak (Freejack), Mystique (Marvel), Lee (Critters 2), Djinn (Wishmaster), Jennifer Check (Jennifer's Body), Megamind (Megamind), Ursula (Little Mermaid), Edna Turnblad (Hairspray 2007), Mona Lisa Vito (My Cousin Vinny), Lisle Von Rhuman (Death Becomes Her), Seth Gecko (From Dusk Till Dawn), Buffy Summers (Buffyverse), Ahmanet (The Mummy 2017), Candy Kong, Tigra (Marvel), any Corey Feldman character, but specifically teen or adult Feldman characters, Vypra (Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue), Jack Burton (Big Trouble In Little China, the three storms or Lo Pan or Gracie Law would be good too, in case you're wondering my favorite of the storm is Thunder). Mileena (Mortal Kombat), Pennywise (It), any Star Wars alien species, any Warcraft species, but in particular Pandaren. Any species from the Star Trek franchise but definitely Klingon, Caitian, Romulan, Vorta.
Would Definitely Find It Interesting: Shao Lin (Captain Simian and The Space Monkeys), Donkey Kong or Funky Kong (Donkey Kong), Thirty-Thirty (Bravestarr), Beast (Beauty and the Beast, as long as it's not too focused on lovey-dovey stuff and actually has some action and other elements I like), Demona (Gargoyles), Any Flushed Away character, Darkness (Legend), Salvatore Moreau (Resident Evil: Village), Any Xenaverse character (i'm not picky, but I definitely gravitate towards Xena herself, Callisto, or Autolycus), Jara (Beetleborgs/Beetleborgs Metallix), Horribelle (Beetleborgs/Beetleborgs Metallix), Flabber (Beetleborgs/Beetleborgs Metallix), Kimberly Hart (Power Rangers), Toxica (Power Rangers Wild Force), Nefaria (Masked Rider), Astronema (Power Rangers In Space), Chuds...just Chuds in general, Assett (Shape Of Water), Smithy (Gavin and Stacey) - Okay, you can turn me into a James Corden character or James himself if you wish but i'm not very good at acting like James so you'll have to either teach me or i'll teach myself to do it, Amilyn (Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1992, any Buffyverse character would work well with me to be honest even if it's from the movie).
Would If Under Certain Circumstances: Louis (The Princess And The Frog), if I get to be Louis can I at least be a headcanon version of him I made in which he is a human turned alligator and in anthro form as opposed to a non-morphic talking magical alligator? Pegasus (Hercules), the thing is when I want to be Pegasus i'll choose anthro or if normal Pegasus i'd like to at least have some action, no lovey-dovey stuff for too long or I might get violently ill, besides...what good is being a heroic demigod's best friend if you cannot go on adventures? Maximus (Tangled), anthro please and i'd like for him to be able to speak, Sulley (Monsters Inc) - as long as nothing too out of character and nothing sexual and no lovey-dovey stuff because remember Sulley is more than just a snuggling machine. Also Randall must be involved too and must be given a redemption arc.
Uhhhh...No, Don't Want This: Non-morphic Pokemon, non-morphic style werewolves that sometimes run on two legs, 100% Wolf (I don't like that particular franchise), any celebrity from the 40's-60's, Tug (Brother Bear). The thing is I don't dislike bear transformations I just find that outside of hibernating and eating there's nothing much to being a bear so I would very much be bored if I got stuck as a bear character anyway, I don't understand how he and the other clearly non-morphic animals can talk I can get how Kenai can do it, but how come he can? Baloo (Jungle Book), the only exception is the Talespin version because at he's anthro and wears clothes in that universe (no non-morphic Jungle Book characters please, only anthro or humanoid versions, if you have to go with one species from that movie, primates only), Tiger Dancers (Zootopia)- they're overdone and I don't want it to be like that one piece with the tiger dancers essentially pulling an Agent Smith and creating clones of themelves by turning others, Fire Emblem characters (tried it, didn't like it and not too keen on the art designs, either make Kaden more half fox-like or don't include him or any Fire Emblem character at all), Simba (anthro only please and the last time I did something Simba related it got kind of uncomfortable), Homestuck characters - i'll only do Homestuck if I can do my own version of it where the characters look like actual human beings since I don't know how to even do a tf into how they normally look like or how to describe it also nothing overly predatorial (you heard me. I don't want any overly rapey subtext with Jade Harley, she's too good to be treated like that), Queen Ellinor (Brave, don't like her as a woman and as a bear, didn't like having to be her OTP in a tf rp and didn't like having to be a bear, so please don't include her), Norm (Norm of the North) - no Norm of the North period, I don't know why some people think non-morphic animals are sexy, so I wouldn't want to be him, Toothless (How To Train Your Dragon) - I got burned on out doing Night Fury stuff ages ago and will only do it if I can do anthro night-furies or night-fury-girls (half human/half night fury dragonesses) and don't have to do any cutesy wutesy momma and baby stuff/lovey-dovey stuff, Puro (Changed), please...DO NOT do anything related to Changed with me, the only way i'll ever do Changed is if I can parody it or do my own headcanon version of it or my own version of it which addresses the issues I have with said game, Gloria (Madagascar). Either make the Madagascar cast anthro or don't include them at all, don't try to do anything sexual with Gloria, I feel uncomfortable with non-morphic animal character x human character pairings plus I don't think she's sexy. Creepypasta characters (don't know that many and the only ones I know are Jeff, The Rake and Laughing Jack, I can do FNAF but only if I can use my anthro/living versions of them).

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies: The Dawn of the Dreadfuls by Steve Hockensmith
I’ve said this before, Pride and Prejudice is just something I can't get into. Its not the story, I enjoy the story immensely, I’ve seen several retellings and I like them all (the Bollywood retelling Bride and Prejudice, is AWESOME) it’s the writing. I don’t know what it is about Jane Austen, but she is a cure of insomnia for me… a really annoying one. I love the author of the first Zombie retelling; Seth Grahame-Smith, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and Unholy Night, are fantastic! But, like others have pointed out, the first Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is mostly Austen with the undead thrown in, so it was still really really dull.
This one, however, isn’t like that. The tone is different, the Austen style is done with a wink, it highlights the absurdity of the social dictates of the times, which of course is already highlighted by the fact that everyone is facing a zombie hoard.
Basically, this one is a really cool fan fiction, a prequel, not really to the Austen version, but to zombified Austen version. It takes the Bennets, who I really like, and puts them in an adventure novel. Dawn of the Dreadfuls explains how the Bennets became warriors, and also explains why Lizzie reacts to Darcy as she does.
I really like the backstory on their training, but I am of two minds about giving a *reason* for why Lizzie is disgusted with the marriage market.
On the one hand, it does give a little more depth to the character, in that you get to go “Ah, that makes sense” because it’s a once bitten twice shy type of thing. But on the other hand Lizzie doesn’t really *need* a backstory to be annoyed by the fact that she and her sisters are being judged like so much cattle all the while having to keep themselves and others from being eaten.
However, it is interesting, that when the fall out happens after Mr. Bennet decides its time to train his girls while others bury their head in the sand and zombies come to dig them out, Lizzie is upset and disappointed by the fact that her father’s decision has made her and her sisters socially undesirable.
I also like the fact that while in the original, and even in Grahame-Smith’s Lizzie is described as “romantic” for not wanting to be with a man who she doesn’t connect with, in this one, it is painted more in that she is practical. Who really has the time to think of marriage when the dead are rising and eating people? Of course, this doesn’t stop Kitty and Lydia from dealing beautifully with both. They are such fun in this book, giggling and gossiping while hacking zombies apart, managing to strike a balance between silly and deadly.
Lizzie’s practicality doesn’t stop her from being attracted to and developing feelings for a couple of guys. I find this interesting because this Lizzie has two sides, one that thirsts for knowledge and understanding, and one that craves action. Each of the men speak to one side of her personality. And of course, there is an amazing scene where she tells both of them off.
This book is a blast, a well written parody that manages to still have a good plot and good characterization.

For our annual theme park adventure this year, we returned to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, for a full day of thrilling rides and epic good and times.
When we last visited the park, our son, Ozzie, was just first dipping his foot into the roller coaster experience with a couple rides on the classic Loch Ness Monster and the wooden InvadR, but this year, now at age 12, he was pretty fearless in taking on many of the biggest thrill rides for the first time.
But we had to start with The Loch Ness Monster (which we rode numerous times at the end of our visit in 2017), a 43 year old iconc of yellow steel with a striking green train, all themed to the legendary Scottish sea creature. It was mid-August, just as schools were about to begin, and as such, the lines and wait times for the rides were minimal in general, and we literally walked right onto Loch Ness upon arriving with no waiting at all.
https://www.artzobx.com/buschgardens2019/ed6096999
A second ride on Loch Ness that would’ve been in the front seat was postponed when the coaster was temporarily shut down to clean up a previous rider’s vomit, so we took it as a sign to move on to something else.
From the Scotland area of the park, we ventured over towards Italy and hopped right on the Escape From Pompeii boat ride, which gets frighteningly hot during the inside portion of the ride thanks to some very impressive pyrotechnic effects, only to cool you off at the end with a fun drop that leads to a big splash of water delightfully drenching most of the riders.
Then it was time for the nearby Battering Ram and Davinci’s Cradle, before heading for Sue’s and my favorite ride at Busch Gardens, Apollo’s Chariot, a super fun 73mph roller coaster with tons of soaring air time and an awesome 170-foot first drop. It was Ozzie’s first time on Apollo’s Chariot, and as expected, he absolutely loved it an was immediately ready to ride it again. In all, we returned to the Chariot about five times throughout the day.
https://www.artzobx.com/buschgardens2019/ed609699a
Next to Apollo’s Chariot is the twisty launch coaster Tempesto, but just as we were to be the next group to board the ride, a hard rain storm hit and all rides were temporarily closed for about an hour. We took the time to grab a snack to eat and cool off with a drink, which includes free refills all day if you purchase the collector’s cup, which we did and put those refills to constant good use.
After our weather-imposed lunch break (we shared a giant pretzel and Oz had a sandwich), we were in Octoberfest when the rain stopped and the rides were finally reopened, so got on the nearby Verbolten, a multi-launch coaster with indoor and outdoor sections, built where the classic Big Bad Wolf coaster used to be years ago. We all loved this exciting and unique thrill ride, and first-timer Ozzie especially enjoyed the inside part when the ride stops in the dark and the track literally drops down to a lower track before shooting out into the sunlight again at full launch speed.
https://www.artzobx.com/buschgardens2019/ed6096c8f
From there, we walked to one of the firsts on Ozzie’s to do list, the ski lodge-themed Alpengeist coaster, which features multiple inversions and rolls as it twists around bridges and other rides. Ozzie said it was a little bumpier than he prefers, but was a highly enjoyable ride nonetheless.
https://www.artzobx.com/buschgardens2019/ed6096aae
For lunch, we shared our traditional turkey leg in France, under the towering Griffon coaster, which Oz opted to save until next time.
We eventually made our way back to Italy, where Tempesto was now open, so with a very small wait time, we got on and went for a wild ride. Ozzie loved it, especially the “falling” backwards as riders are first launched forward up a massive incline, only to be dropped in reverse back through the line queue, and then speed forward through the rest of the ride.
https://www.artzobx.com/buschgardens2019/ed6096dab
After another ride on Apollo’s Chariot (no lines again) and a couple spins on the Trade Wind bobsled, we decided to cool off on the Roman Rapids inner tube water ride, which always has a bit of a wait, but was well worth it when we all got off drenched but thankfully no longer sweating.
Then we took one more fun ride on Apollo’s Chariot before taking a relaxing train ride from Italy back over to France, where we got on the wooden viking-themed coaster InvadR.
https://www.artzobx.com/buschgardens2019/ed6096dfa
Our final ride of the day was Le Scoot log flume (always Sue’s favorite), a classic that has been in operation since the park itself first opened in 1975.
By closing time, we were exhausted but exhilarated and felt that we had successfully done everything we had hoped to do and then some, and we enjoyed our day to the fullest. Knowing that a brand new roller coaster (Pantheon) is scheduled to open next year, Ozzie is already planning our next visit.
You can watch some highlights from our 2019 adventure at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, including Ozzie’s reactions after riding many of the park’s roller coasters for the first time, in the video below, and then scroll down to view our photo gallery.
