im new to makeup but i really dont want to do heavy makeup and im not really looking for foundation or concealer what products should i look for?
yes! if you don’t want to get into foundation or concealer products i would recommend putting the money you would spend on foundation into a good skincare routine. i personally love the tatcha dewy moisturizer but it smells kinda like lavender slightly so if you are scentsitive keep that in mind. However it gives a super nice glow i love. shopmissa.com has a korean skincare line as well for super cheap and it is honestly quality and the ingredients list is 🤌🏻also they have a quiz that customizes a routine for you which is great. here’s a cleanser and cream i use from them as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
blushes n beams 4 u💕:
elf putty cream blush
fenty beauty cream blush
glossier cloud paint
half caked heart shaped lip+cheek tint
saie clean dew balm glossy highlighter
half caked no chill luster sticklighter
blushes and highlight: since you don’t like foundation and what i’m assuming you are going for is a natural look, use a cream blush. it is going to sit better on your skin than a powder blush would without foundation, and you can blend it out easier to make it natural. same with highlight, powder products can slide off easy with no base underneath (i mean you could use primer with powder but i dont think it’s best for au natruel) so use a cream highlighter if you would like.
brows: honestly i would recommend a brow soap this one is my personal fave and it’s $1. if you are looking elsewhere in the brow product department i would recommend the colourpop brow products such as the pencils and pomades.
eyeliners: liquid or gel, i would recommend the colourpop liquid liner AND the cream/gel ones. they also have a wide color assortment. same with shopmissa, their liners both liquid and gel are to die for and have many great colors however make sure you are sticking to the AOA brand on there or their charity lines (such as pawpaw and A+)
eyeshadow: i’m gonna have to recommend colourpop AGAIN. depending on your needs, they have 9 shade palettes to like 30 colors and no matter what size you still get them at a really great price. again they have natural all the colors of the rainbow.
lipstick + glosses! i have so many glosses and lipsticks but some of my highest recs would probably be my fenty gloss bombs, dior and fenty lip oil, mac lipsticks, wet n wild

A site I use frequently is Glossier. Glossier is a makeup brand that I regularly order products from. Their products range from makeup, to skincare, to fragrance. Here is their website link:
Relevant Photos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two images capture the homepage of the website. As you can see, there is relevant use of white space to give this web layout a simple, clean feel. I see products advertised up front, as well as a “featured products” scroll tab below to entice viewers about their products. The brand “Glossier” is in bold and centered on the home screen, with corresponding tabs beneath it labeled according to their merchandise.
Tumblr media
When you hit “Makeup” on their site, you immediately are brought to a page with all of their products displayed for you. Here is the Makeup page link:

Other relevant links include tabs for:

Similar Sites:
Similar sites are Sephora, and Ulta Beauty. Both have a different layout.
Sephora

Ulta
Tumblr media
Both of these competitor sites I think have nothing compared to Glossier. They seem too busy, and there is so much content on one page that it’s overwhelming.
Overall, yes I think Glossier has a good website design.
They present a clean styled website, are able to display their products without it being overwhelming, and upkeep the image of their brand by having a sleek clean consistency that they also provide in their products.
I think one area they could improve on is making sub categories for each page they have on their website. Instead of clicking “Makeup” and seeing every product, I think it would be more easily accessible if they categorized things like “Lips”, “Eyes”, and “Face”.
I did the accessibility check of using the “tab” key to navigate the website, as well as looking at the field labels for products and reviewing the websites contrast.
l pressed the tab key to navigate the site. It did help me go through different selections, however it was not as seamless as I hoped. I don’t think the tab selection worked for every link. I also clicked on the field labels on the site, and it was obvious which one was selected, by a highlighted outline, however I feel like it could become even more bold. The layout of the site is overall pretty clean and straightforward, but they use black type for every aspect and a small font. Maybe they could use a bigger font and it would be more accessible for some users.
From the checks I performed, I think the site is fairly accessible, but has room for some improvements. For example the tab key check should be updated, and maybe some different fonts and other small revisions.
Changing the size of some fonts, fixing the tab selection, making the field labels more bold.

Not to be annoying but re: your glossier post what is your skin type (a man is desperate for good skincare and can’t find anything that works)
Combination with a lean towards dry
Glossier actually has a quiz you can take on their website to figure out what skincare products and routine would be best for you

As a fashion market editor , I undoubtedly enjoy some job perks (travel, clothes, events… to name a few), but my favorite part of going into the office every day is the conversation among the editors , particularly when it comes to advice. I can’t tell you how many new brands I’ve learned about, the amount of fashion celebrity news I’ve kept up with, or even the number of cool new dinner spots I've discovered, all thanks to my colleagues. Another bonus is that I sit right behind the Who What Wear beauty team , which means I get to eavesdrop on everything they discuss, from amazing supplements to the newest makeup launches to a facial they recently tried. Luckily, I also get to test-drive some of the products they receive, sometimes acting as a guinea pig for a new lipstick or skincare item that landed on their desks. I always want to know everything about how to make my beauty, skincare, and wellness regimens better (especially now that my wrinkles are real), so I’m always open to hearing their expert tips and thoughts on the latest and greatest in the wellness-and-beauty space. From what products help you feel less bloated to the items you should never use on your face and how to prevent breakouts, below I’m sharing the essential tips and tricks that I’ve learned from our beauty-and-wellness team—and the must-have products they swear by. "Taking a consistent dosage of magnesium every day has been game-changing for me this year. I usually take it right before bed (this new Moon Juice launch tastes so dreamy and immediately disappears into water), and it helps me sleep, stave off stress, and feel less bloated. It's basically a magical supplement I've been telling everyone to look into if they suffer from any of the above issues." "I feel like people think brush-on fiber mascaras are passé, but if you find a good formula, the results are so good and way easier than dealing with false lashes, extensions, or other lash-related options. I can't quit this particular one from Australian brand MCo Beauty and start to panic whenever the tube starts to reach its end. I always get compliments on my lashes when I wear it (people think they're extensions!), so I've been telling everyone about this." "Don't use coconut oil as a beauty product. I think I'm especially sensitive to coconut oil and coconut oil–derived ingredients, but just looking at the stuff makes me break out and my pores clog. It's in SO many beauty products these days, and I'm secretly convinced it's the reason so many adults are having random acne issues they never had before. I pretty much have to scan every single ingredient list, and lip products are the absolute worst offenders. For anyone who's been breaking out around their mouth or lips, check your products! The below lip balm from PCA Skin is my favorite and one of the only products I've ever tried that keeps my lips hydrated for literally days and doesn't have coconut oil or any other comedogenic oils in it." "I was plagued by the worst and most stubborn breakouts until I realized a sneaky supplement I was taking (the biotin in my favorite hair gummies) was the cause behind my never-ending cycle of acne. I'm bummed because I loved my hair gummies, but ever since I quit them cold-turkey, my skin has cleared, and I haven't gotten any new breakouts. I did some research and asked my go-to esthetician, Dakota Katt at Vanessa Hernandez Skincare, about it, and it turns out this is totally a thing and a huge issue for a lot of people since our bodies can only absorb so much biotin. Sad, but true. Instead, I'll be solely relying on my favorite multivitamins from Ritual (which don't have biotin) to keep everything topped up." "I mist my face all day, every day. I keep spritzers and aerosols on my desk and in my car so I can mist on the go for an extra hit of moisture or even to reapply SPF. It's a quick and easy way to care for my skin no matter where I am." "Clear lip gloss is one of the first beauty products I was allowed to wear as a teenager, so my love for it runs deep. No matter how my day is going, adding a swipe of shiny gloss to my lips instantly makes me feel 100% fiercer." "Don't quiz me on the science behind face rollers, but I've been really into taking this tool to my face before bed at night. I haven't noticed a huge difference just yet, but the instant soothing and tension release coupled with the potential de-puffing that could come into play are all motivation enough for me to stick with it." "Water is (almost) always the answer. Or at least it's the first question I ask if I'm feeling off: Did you drink enough water today? I always try to make sure I drink enough water throughout the day so I'm feeling energized and refreshed. Bringing along a reusable water bottle always ensures I'm hydrating." "I think it's important to take lots of breaks throughout the day, no matter what you're doing, but especially when you're at work. It's a nice mental health reset. I like to take a walk around (even if it's just for a couple of minutes), take some deep breaths, and center my mind. Luckily, I have an Apple Watch, so it tells me when I should stand up and stretch, but if you don't have one, just try to do it every one or two hours." "This is a sleep trick I've learned from an expert I spoke to for a story about falling back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night: Don't clock-watch. Before, when I used to look at my phone or nightstand clock, I'd start thinking (and thinking and thinking) about how many hours I had left for sleep until I had to wake up, which would cause me to stress out. Now, I force myself to not reach for my phone, which is also great since there's no light to disrupt my eyes or Instagram to distract me, and that's made a world of difference for falling back to sleep quicker." There's no denying Augustinus Bader's cult-loved face cream is quite expensive at $265 a pot. But the holy-grail cream with A-list fans is worth all the hype. I was able to try a sample from the beauty editors, and I absolutely fell in love. It's seriously hydrating and leaves my skin with an incredible glow. This is now my go-to everyday lipstick thanks to the beauty team. It's universally flattering, and celebs, editors, and beauty mavens can't get enough of it. Where would I be without my dry shampoo? This one instantly soaks up excess oil while adding texture and volume. I think practically every person in our office owns this cult eyebrow product. We're always on a quest to make our brows thick and defined yet natural-looking. Glossier's Boy Brow is the way to do it. For those suffering from acne issues, this face mask is a godsend. It's infused with charcoal and clay, which clear pores and leave skin detoxified, smooth, and perfectly glowy. Not bad for $12! Our sister company, Versed, released an incredible (and affordable) skincare line this year, and, of course, we got to be the first ones to try it. This hydration booster serum is one of my favorites from the collection. It's made of two types of hyaluronic acid, which hydrates the skin and the layers beneath it. The serum can be used alone or with a moisturizer or foundation and is perfect for those with ultra-dry skin. This essential eucalyptus oil will help you shorten your cold overnight—you can also use it to make a DIY vapor rub—just mix with peppermint oil and coconut oil and rub on your chest. Because cold season is officially here, friends! Up next, 17 mascaras that won't irritate sensitive eyes .

Ummm so I like getting site credit at places and I like introducing people to ways to save their money, so I made a page on my blog that does both of those things.  Most of these are referral links that give me site credit if you sign up and buy stuff.
Ebates: Earn cash back shopping at your favorite websites!  I use this all the time.  It’s a lifesaver.  10/10 do recommend.
Hautelook: Kinda like an online TJ Maxx/Marshalls – well-known designers and brands at (sometimes) pretty steep discounts.
True&Co: Super nice bras/undies from lots of different brands, and they have an online bra fitting quiz too (though in my experience it’s not super accurate, but returns are free and super easy.)
Memebox: For K-beauty.  I get some of my skincare from them.
Modcloth: Vintage-inspired clothing, beauty, and home decor.  Super cute and better size range than most (which isn’t saying much, I know.) Recently bought by Walmart, since we can’t have nice things.
TheRealReal: This one is not a referral link; it’s just a really cool site with designers that are usually super expensive at (usually) reasonable prices.  The products are all verified for authenticity and if you have any designer clothing lying around (which I don’t because I’m an underemployed millennial, but just in case you do,) you can sell it to them!
Groupon: Coupons for local small businesses/experiences, as well as discounts on products you can buy through the site.
ThredUp:  Actual online consignment – you can buy clothes for a great price, and you can make money by sending them your clothes!!!!  Not as designer-exclusive as TheRealReal, so a better option for those of us who are usually on a budget.
ULTA: Skincare, haircare, makeup, and all other manner of beauty-related items. The rewards program is awesome – I prefer it to Sephora’s, since points translate to discounts on the items you’re actually buying rather than adding samples to your regular-price order.  They sell both drugstore and prestige beauty brands so it’s pretty easy to rack up points by buying your regular/staple products through them.
Glossier:  Probably all over your facebook feed.  Skincare-as-fun and skincare-as-makeup.  My link gets you 20% off your first purchase!
(Relatively) high-interest bank accounts: This is my referral link for Capital One 360.  I’ve had a pretty good experience with them (about 2 years) and it’s super easy to schedule transfers/set aside savings/open separate accounts for separate purposes.  Definitely shop around though and see if another bank offers better rates.

The Basics
The Breakdown (aka a handy checklist of products you should integrate into your skincare routine)
Cleanser(s) - your daily face wash for am/pm
Toners
Moisturizer +/- face oil
SPF
Weekly mask treatment
Lip Balm
How to decide which product to pick?
First, determine your skin-care goal. Whether that is wanting clear skin or hydrated skin or refreshing currently dull skin etc.
Figure out your skin-type. This is super important. You can use online tools like the Sephora skincare quiz to help you determine this. I use my foreo luna fofo (a facial cleansing device) to ‘read’ my skin and tell me about hydration levels etc.
Next, figure out the skin concerns that you’d like to tackle. Do you use makeup? Is your skin acne-prone? Answering these questions is vital to curating the best routine for you.
Pay heed to your allergies. Products made from a wide variety of things and it’s important to check labels. Also remember to patch test every product on your arm before your face
 My routine and recommendations:
The first step of my skincare routine is *drum roll* washing my face. I have several cleansers I like to alternate between depending on how my skin feels on that particular day. My current no-frills favourite is the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin (available at the drugstore, wallet friendly, and exceptionally effective).  Other great cleansers for my skin type (combination and dehydrated) are: Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel (available at sephora, and smells divine) and Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser (available at the glossier website, incredible texture and an Allure beauty award winner).
I then like to go in with a toner (I spray it onto a cotton pad and then swipe it over my face). It leaves my skin feeling really refreshed and clean. My personal favourite is the Lush Eau Roma Water (available at Lush) and Fresh Black Tea Kombucha (available at Sephora). There are tonnes of really budget-friendly to luxury toners out there - pick one that suits your skincare concerns. Try to pick toners that do not contain alcohol.
Moisturizer - the most important step of any routine and one that I used to be quite lazy with but have since learnt better than to ignore. I use two items - a hydrating hyaluronic acid based product followed by a moisturizing facial oil. I am currently using Bioderma’s Hydrabio Serum Moisturising Concentrate (a little hard to find, I picked it up in France) followed by Laura Mercier’s Flawless Skin Infusion de Rose Nourishing Oil (available at sephora, expensive but lasts a long time). Alternative recommendations I enjoy: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (super budget friendly), Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream (sephora, works for every skin type).
SPF! It is definitely been a lifetime of trying to find a sunscreen that does not irritate my skin, is not itchy, does not smell awful, and actually works. Here are my recommendations: La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL spf 50 and Coola Classic Face Sport spf 50 (sephora).
The world of masks is endless, beautiful, and filled with a lot of great scents. I try to do a mask every sunday. My skin feels more hydrated and looks glowy - that’s all I need. Here are my holy-grails: Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque (available at aesop and nordstrom, the best smelling and silkiest mask I have ever used), Lush Mask of Magnaminty (a cult favourite, Clarins SOS Comfort Nourishing Balm Mask (sephora, super creamy and very moisturizing), and Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (bye-bye breakouts).
Lip balm - the most underrated step. I use it not only on my lips but also on my brows (it keeps them in place and makes them look super full and glossy) and they can be put on those pesky papercuts to seal them up when you don’t have anything else on hand. Here are the picks: Rosebud Perfume Co. - Rosebud Salve (sephora), Glossier balm dotcom, Burt’s bees balm original (drugstore! And a tried and tested classic).
And that’s it folks! Remember to pick products formulated with good ingredients. Also, stick with your routine! You’re not going to have flawless skin overnight (or you might.. In which case I am envious but I am here for it).
