Looking back on our middle school dragon books that we loved (The Erth Dragons trilogy) and MAN we really should have realized that we’re dragonkin sooner

The main human character in those books ends up somewhat becoming part dragon himself, and the whole time we read those books we were like “man, wish we were him” and imagined ourself having the scale patches on our arms and stuff. Also tried to teach ourself how to speak parts of the dragons’ language (young us could not figure out a lot of the pronunciation unfortunately).

Also the whole concept of Fire Tears? That every dragon’s auma is contained in this tear, and when they cry it is when they die? And if the tear doesn’t return to the Earth the dragon’s spirit can’t rest properly? It resonated with us so deeply and honestly still does.

Honestly we should reread those books; they made our dragon heart so happy when we were younger (and tbh we might be a dragon from that world, who knows. Not a Last Dragon Chronicles one though; that series just confused the heck out of us even though it’s a connected universe)

Drow Name Tables

Something I did as a special favor to @kimmurielsscryingmirror (@eldritchmist ) who showed interest. Because it’s...pretty big I decided to make it into it’s own post.

These are a few Drow naming tables that were originally found in an issue of Dragon Magazine. It’s two d100 tables of prefixes and suffixes commonly used in first names. The second couple of tables is a list of common house name prefixes and suffixes.

EDIT: Just a little something for those who care which I didn’t add before because it took me so long to finish the transcription I just wanted to post it lol. The gender difference is noted in the related Dragon Magazine article as being significant. Non Drow may not notice but a Drow will notice the difference. Female names sometimes borrow parts that are normally only considered male and this is considered fine...but a male with a name that borrows a typically only female part would be seen as extremely taboo.

Silly Game Time: Who are some of your favorite alien (non-human *and* extra-terrestrial) characters? And what do you like about them?

They can be from sci-fi or fantasy, from other worlds or dimensions or realms. All that matters is that they're not from Earth and that they're not human in any traditional sense (and, most of all, that you find them interesting).

mara of the acoma from feist & wurts' empire trilogy. she is one of my favourite fictional women ever. in the context of her own series, she's not an alien, but in the context of the riftwar saga (which was published first and contain more elements of feist's mainline plot than the empire trilogy), she is, so. i think she counts.

the mandalorian. i'm not immune to single fathers... or general badassery...

todd from the knife of never letting go (book) / chaos walking (movie). i have fond memories of going to see this at the drive-in with a friend when it came out.

Well, see, the triangle isn't three lines falling into each other. Like how one isn't standing alone on the surface of the ERth and instead has many tonnes of weight of air pushing down on them, the Triangle-ness of the triangle asserts itself outwards on to the lines, pushing them, preventing total collapse inwards.

Yeah that was one of the few things I had issues with :/ but I’m pretty sure women play a much bigger role in the other series!

I think so, if I remember correctly, but I never read most of it, so.

Personally, I’m just going to cherrypick canon and decide in my headcanon that the genders aren’t necessarily tied to biological sex, but instead to societal role, so “female” is just a word for a dragon who’s chosen to dedicate herself to hatching and raising young and the only reason it’s attached to hatchlings is because only bio-sex females can have and hatch eggs in the first place. Which would also explain the wild sex ratio difference in the wearle when we know dragons always have one male and one female per clutch.

Because it’s fiction and I do what I want. :P
