Did she like him, or did she just like what he represented in her life: safety, stability, normalcy? Cause I think Phoebe's time with Cole has her so messed up that she would have latched onto any reasonably normal guy who wasn't trying to kill her and her family

Okay, so the context (and sneak peak, I guess) is Phoebe and Coop are discussing how she wasn't willing to be with Coop until she finds out about the future. Phoebe brings up how everytime she pursued the love she wasn't "suppose to," aka Cole and Miles, it goes poorly and her family is hurt in the crossfire. It's not- Okay, well, it wasn't intended to be a very in-depth thing bc it's just a oneshot that's gotten out of control on me again, but I realized that parallel between Phoebe's relationships with Cole and Miles and am kinda liking the idea of third time the charm-ing it, tbh. (I also bring up Dex, bc like I said! This is getting out of control on me again!)

She doesn't really delve deep into that relationship, so it's kinda your mileage may vary on that but here's the lines about it:

" I thought that it was just because it was Cole. But then I fell for someone I wasn’t supposed to be with, Miles, and I thought that I could change his fate. I thought I was supposed to change his fate, and instead I hurt my family again."

Idk, did that make sense? Any input is greatly appreciated!!

“oh,  please…   i know just how special these kisses are.   i cherish them deeply.”   alex’s quick to reassure,  a hint of playfulness lacing his voice but his icy hues are serious.   gentle but serious.   he has a good idea of what the capitol,  president snow,  had made abilene do.   after the games,  everyone wanted a piece of her —   she was beautiful and young.   a victor.   and it’s nothing new,  really…   this world is especially cruel to women.   it’s a known fact.   and it’s also part of the reason why he’s so angry on the inside,  why he craves revenge.   he wants justice for her,  too.   “i love you.   i want to give you the world,”   he coos,  tapping the tip of her nose with his fingertip.   her trust means a lot him,  and he’ll never take it for granted or betray it.   his heart belongs to her,  so do his body and soul.   

“yeah,  exactly.   and bookish nerds from district twelve are no troublemakers.”   laughing as he plays along,  the grin that appears on her lips has his heart skipping a beat.   she’s his personal sun,  shining brighter than any light in this bunker.   “well,  you’ve grown on me,  too.   though,  now that i’m thinking about it…   have i ever officially asked you to be my girlfriend?”   face flushing a bright shade of red.   he doesn’t recall ever popping that question.   it seems incredibly awkward for some reason,  childish.   the lines between friendship and love have just blurred on their own at some point,  and now here they are.   “oh!   grand babies?   don’t we need to have actual,  you know,  babies first?   bold of you to speak of children when you’re not even my official girlfriend,”   he teases,  biting the inside of his bottom lip and stifling a laugh.   “what do i think?   about berries or grandchildren?”

❛ you better , ❜ she teased , planting a quick peck to his lips again before she settled back against his side . ❛ i don't just give those away to just anyone , y'know . ❜ perhaps alex had rubbed off on her , she thought . though she teased , she did not take any touch for granted .

abilene had been sure that the kiss they'd shared before she left was going to be their last . she had been a slave to the capitol for so long , she wanted to know and remember what real love felt like . she'd even told herself that her last thought would be of the sound of his heartbeat , or his laugh , or the feeling of his hands on her skin . she didn't remember if that was what she thought of when one of the mutts had pulled her under the water . she didn't want to think on it , and squeezed her eyes shut .

they'd drink sweet tea and strawberry wine and rock on the porch . abilene tried to shift her thoughts again back to the thought of their future in ten . she hummed softly , and thought of alex on the porch in a rocking chair . she thought of him spinning her around on the dance floor like he had when they'd celebrated david's birthday in the bunkers , and her heart swelled at the thought until she was again grinning .

❛ cowboys are more trouble than they're worth . ❜ abilene joked . ❛ they wouldn't knit me sweaters , or share any secret recipes with me . besides , you've grown on me . ❜ her eyes opened , a glint of mischief sparkling through them before she laughed quietly again . her cheeks always seemed to ache when alex was around . she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek .

❛ we'll look like raisins out on the porch , with a garden full of strawberries and grandbabies . ❜ she laughed , a bit louder this time , and rested her head back on his shoulder . ❛ we'll plant other berries too , i think . black berries and blue berries . . . every color of berries . ❜ she rested her hand on his chest . ❛ what do you think , alex ? ❜

(Spins in chair dramatically) Tee-hee, beginning of my Johnny thingy because when I think of happiness I do think of family and idk thats just me and ya know-sorry, anyway-

“AND NEXT YOU WANT TO FUCKING GROPE A GIRL HOW BOUT YOU TAKE OUT ONE OUT OF THE FUCKIN BIBLE AND GOUGE YOUR EYES OUT-hi, sorry about that, what’s goin on?” You give a small smile to the costumer now standing before you, reasonably his eyes were wide and he looked as if he had been caught in headlights.

Johnny, who woke up this morning relatively easily, got his cup of tea, downed an energy drink, went on his run and only got into the car to realize it wouldn’t bloody start, and oddly enough that was enough for his mood to be completely ruined. So when he walked into the garage, only to see a kind looking woman he may have expected for the day to get better- he was…wrong?

You tusk and then look out to the car he came from, looked good- almost as good as the dumbfounded man in front of you, “Cat got your tongue, pretty boy?”

and the rest was quite literally history.

So currently you were trying to pry him and your very adventurous seven-year-old inside, and you thought it would be an easy task. After all, they had been outside all day, playing every sport and game that the human mind could comprehend. They had drank enough hose water each that you were sure that the problem had some sort of toxic heavy metal within their systems and they both consumed enough sugar via gummies and fruit it would put a person into cardiac arrest- either way as you tried to get them to come inside you were met with:

"But mom 'm winninggg!"

"Aye, I'm bout to beat her!"

You stand on the porch with your arms crossed, having given up at your attempt at a garden last season so you didn't quite mind entirely on how the bed looked like a mud wrestling ground and taking that was the intended purpose...you stared for a long while. "A...best out of what exactly?"

To that your husband stands up, holding the girl by her ankles, "Outta ten, mum."

"Annnd you're on number?"

"I've won five!!" Abigail, or rather Gail as what she had taken to as a nickname, had happily chirped from her upside-down position. A beaming smile across her mud-covered face and her eyes almost closed from how her smile squinted them. 'Here comes Abi trippin over her smile' as Johnny would say.

A nod with a hum is what you gave in reply and you slowly move to turn around, "Shower before you come eat."
