Yknow, I do think some of the criticisms about modern vampire media I've seen going around lately are valid in their analysis, but also they simultaneously annoy me, yknow what I mean?

Because yeah sure taking the classic weaknesses out of a vampire can really lessen the impact of what they are and make them overpowered and imbalanced. Yes they were often a metaphor for the upper class and their lifestyles and exploitation. These are valid and fair points! And should be considered!

But so many of these posts are solely looking at the Bram Stoker interpretation of a vampire, and having that be The Only Thing That's Actually A Vampire, and I find that. Kind of irritating and slightly condescending sometimes.

There are all kinds of stories of vampires or blood-drinking monsters from around the world that vary wildly in appearance, abilities and weaknesses. This isn't really a new thing, nobody was ever able to agree on a Set of All Encompassing Rules, some stuff was more common than other rules but not necessarily universal, you get the idea

Plus, like, vampires (and other monsters too!) have been used for a MYRIAD of metaphors, so just the one isn't like, a catch all.

Thirdly and finally idk man I think it has the same vibe as those art videos that are like "Things artists draw WRONG ALL THE TIME! FIXING ART" or "How to Not Make A Mary Sue"

ok so i watched cinderella's castle and uh. ok here are my thoughts: first of all, the things i loved:

the puppets! thats what i was most excited about when it came to this show, and boy they definitely delivered. sir hop-a-lot and crumb were my favourite part of the show, and jon and joey knocked it out of the park as them!

the set design and lighting! i really loved the set, and the way they played with lighting was GENIUS. the fairy queen's entrance, and the way they used the blacklight during ella's entrance with the starlight dress so that you only saw the dress was amazing.

THE COSTUMES!!! they were gorgeous god!!

the choreography!! very nice as always :}

now onto the things i liked less...

way too many sex jokes for my taste. i know it's starkid but they don't usually lay it on this thick. it just made me cringe.

speaking of, i just generally didn't like the character of the prince very much. i found his style of humour kinda clashed with the tone of the show. james tolbert's acting definitely saved the character imo

and the absolute biggest disappointment for me: the soundtrack. god i'm sorry jeff really shat the bed with this one. purely sound-wise it's fine (though i'm not really a huge fan of the poppy feel of the music. i think the inclusion of electronic music is very interesting, but i personally would've preferred a more baroque rock type sound but that's just personal preference), but the songs were just extremely un-theatre-like. they suffer from what i lovingly call the "dear evan hansen problem": they're generic and vague songs where the character just sings about one feeling throughout the whole song. there's no evolution, which is KEY in musical theatre. for almost all the songs except the fairy queen's and one other song in act 2, i was just sitting there like "...ok? why is this song happening? it's telling me nothing". you could cut like 90% of the songs from this show out and you could still understand the plot perfectly well. the most egregious example being right at the start - the opening number. an opening number is supposed to introduce us to the world and the characters, and the opening number of this show does... neither. it just tells us there's. a castle on a hill??? ok??? what do i care??? the songs also feel very short - likely due to the lack of a bridge in most of them. bridges are important in musical theatre!!! they're usually the turning point of a song!! without one, this show's soundtrack feels empty and like it's missing something. and unfortunately, the overall poor quality of the other parts of the music also highlights jeff's poor lyricism. i can usually let it slide because the other aspects of the soundtrack are very good, but this time it's just... no. nobody's ever strung these words together in the history of man. fuck you mean "a cat that was strayed"??? nobody says that!!! god!!! also why are they talking about "neon lights" when the universe we're in is a medieval fantasy? i would've excused it normally, but earlier in the show, they SPECIFICALLY avoid mentioning a modern invention when the prince says he "dodged a sword thrust" instead of "dodged a bullet". so yeah overall, i feel like this show could've used a different songwriter, perhaps someone like the aj holmes and kaley mcmahon duo from twisted? but yeah those are my thoughts. no shade to you if you loved the ost, but i just personally found it weak! OH AND ALSO ELLA'S OUTFIT POST-RESURRECTION WAS A DOWNGRADE SORRY NOT SORRY!!!

seeing the designs for the borisin reminded me of an au i thought of a while back. i just call it the 'abundance swap' au. the idea is that instead of the xianzhou following the hunt, what if they were denizens of abundance? so like, xianzhou natives would be wingweavers, foxians would be borisin, and vidyadhara.... could be cobrakind...? or still vidyadhara. idk. the xianzhou fleet would be the cloudseizer fleet(?), the plaguemarks would instead be worshipped and nurtured, and they would spread the 'blessings of abundance' to each world they stop by. the arbiter-generals would instead have spirits bestowed by yaoshi instead of lan.

blondies would be more common, philosophies of the hunt would probably be forbidden, and most people would likely know some form of healing. what do they do with the mara struck? im not sure, actually...

ok one of the reasons i thought of this au was bc i liked the thought of wingweaver/borisin yanhuo but shhh... girls should be allowed to be beasts...

i had more thoughts abt this au but lowkey forgot like half of them... maybe ill make a follow up post once i remember

anyway, back to 2.4

oh maaaan oh man oh man oh man im glad yanqing's finally getting more attention in the main story!! he was kinda tossed around in 1.2 and in kafka's companion mission but got some attention during the huohuo event (fav event <3) and now he's a major part in the main story... this patch was made for yanqingers by yanqingers<33

ok but seriously, im glad that his confidence issues were talked about here. it was brushed off in 1.2 and sword essence ended with an off screen conversation with yanqing and jing yuan. it talked about his problems a bit, but was left sorta unresolved, yk? im glad that he's not just instantly fine and recovered right away.

this conversation also gave me more insight on yanqing's feelings and personality. theres a lot of pressure being the cloud knight lieutenant, but when he uses his swords, that pressure is lifted, even for a moment. he's free, like a bird, but must eventually return to his birdcage.

this version rlly helped me understand yanqing's character more, and hopefully i can improve bnp(som) when i rewrite it, but for now i'll stick with practice oneshots.

i haven't finished much for the new march event, but HUOHUO!!!! HUOHUO IS HERE!!! AND SHE'S BEAUTIFUL!!!<333

What you said about Crowley on the parasocial follower post, I tend to call him a worthless bird or some variant but I do mean it like affectionately lol. I'm not saying that because I feel the need to defend calling him that in particular (though if I potentially call him (theorized) Maleanor's piece of shit husband or something I hope it doesn't bother you, in general) but yea it's kind of like. I definitely get the feeling Crowley is up to something and even without that feeling he's so absent / puts everything Yuu's plate so I get why that like -fist shaking- response is there but I can't help but feel affection for him so sometimes whatever seemingly genuine dislike of him throws me off a little bit ? I can't imagine ranting on someone's art of the character because that should be a separate post imo where the artist doesn't have to deal with it, though. I don't remember my main purpose in sending the ask other than I think saying I get it but also don't fully get why there wouldn't still be appreciation wrt the 'not a popular character' thing. Like I'll see conversation that is like oh I hate the headmage and I'm like ... nooo he's a funny bird guy. Anywaaays I really enjoy your blog because I think there's a lot to get into with Crowley and I love your art of him and seeing the fanning over him is amusing

These are the sort of situations I tend to not talk about too much, just because I don’t care to dwell on it too much 🤔🤣 But I absolutely am fine with these sorts of jests- Crowley is quite an easy character to tease 🤣 Sometimes I can be a little put off because it’s hard to read tone over the internet, but oftentimes it’s just friendly misunderstandings! 😊 (edit for clarification: I only feel this way from people I’ve never interacted w/ before. Once I know you it’s all good! 💕🐦‍⬛). I think my blog can give the impression of “Crowley does nothing wrong,” which I certainly don’t think is the case NSBXHFJ. He is a bird of many wrongdoings!! However, I do find there’s a lot of misinterpretations, exaggerations, or inaccurate claims to what Crowley does in canon. There’s some unnoticed good to him that I like to highlight ^_^ And I think this is purposeful from the game to an extent to make him easy to misinterpretation- there’s so many mysteries about him under the guise of his comedic moments.

However, when it comes to interactions with me, I have received some unwelcome comments that go far beyond Crowley teasing. Especially when theories are involved- there have been vulgar insults of my person, my intelligence, of fellow theorists and friends, and some rather violently-described wishes of Crowley’s death. Again, this was more frequent in my earlier days in the fandom. Perhaps because I was new to the fandom, or because that was the height of the Crowley-Raverne theory? Perhaps a mix of both! 🤣 In any case, none of these hurt me personally, but I’ve grown far less tolerant of that sort of behavior/interactions with my blog.

It’s not at all a manner of just disagreeing with theories (I love to have discussions about them!), or being iffy over Crowley. That’s completely fine with me, and we can easily be friends regardless of disagreements- thats normal! \(//∇//)\ But when it gets to the point of these inappropriate interactions over a theory I write for fun, a character I love and draw for fun? That is unwelcome, and a complete lack of fandom etiquette that that post was discussing.

In more minor cases, sometimes I prefer perhaps a tone tag or previous interaction with me. This is again calling back to earlier days, but to have comments/tags flooded with Crowley insults on my art, it’s hard to tell what is a joke or not because of my previous experiences. Especially if there’s very little positive comments or interactions with the actual art/character itself to balance it out. I don’t know what to reply sometimes since I don’t understand the tone or intention- I’m here for fun, and I don’t like stirring up arguments 🤣🤣 but like I said earlier, it can all just be misunderstandings! 😊 Teasing is absolutely fine with me, but it can easily become a manner of etiquette when I don’t know this person, or a lack of clarification or tone tags. But that’s just a nitpick

taz balance is another REALLY big one i point to as a 'the first and the second go through are SO VERY different and its SO great to get to have both' like. again, the foreshadowing is woven in SO well, in many cases completely unintentionally (there are so many times when the players accidentally foreshadowed something and i KNOWWWWW griffin was sitting there trying so very very hard not to say anything or laugh. or times in the first few arcs when griffin foreshadowed something that hadnt even been planned out yet!)

yahoo!! sorry for taking so long to get to this!! i kinda had a small lil slump for a few days but im back!! sorry for any typos or if these seem... bllluguuguh!!! im still trying to get through that lil slump so my brains still a lil... boo!!! obligatory these are with characters that i think would be compatible with an ace reader so this isnt going to follow my base/go to list of characters! a lot of these are going to dip into admins experience as someone on the ace spectrum (asexual/aegosexual!) reader is written as vague ace identity but like. mostly involved to be ace. admittedly this leans more into most of this being ace hcs since i think for the most part they dont care/dont find issue with your identity

CWs: mentions of sex but like. nothing too bad mostly just vague sex drives and that sort of thing, really!

Slenderman;

honestly i think he might be on the ace spectrum, or maybe thats because i dont think he really knows what sex /is/

okay well he does know what it is but he only understands it on a surface level, but otherwise he doesnt really care much for it in an everyday setting

yeah i think hes on the spectrum; i also think he might be on the aro spectrum!

only really initiates intimacy if you want it (reminder that not all aces dont have sex! attraction stuff is the main thing) but otherwise i would write him the same way as i do with a non-asexual reader!

extra headannon since his is kinda short but really hes probably the most supportive out of any creepypasta simply because i like to write him as this entity that doesnt interact much with others but is still. curious. this man does not know what lgbtphobia is (and thinks its dumb when he does find out!)

very similar with slenderman but more in tuned with identity stuff and things like that

personally i hc him to be greysexual, or demisexual! i think trender is like. the only one out of the 3 brothers (that i claim) that i dont see being ready to get down and dirty? like unlike slender he KNOWS what it is and understands attraction and all that but just doesnt. feel it

so he gets it! he interacts with people more than slender but like. not openly, i mean like not as himsef?! this is kind of a side tangent but i like to think that slender beings can create false human bodies and trender is the main one who uses it

anyways! im kind of getting off topic

he understands the stigma and hate ace people can get so out of the four characters today i think he would be the most likely to offer an ear when youre getting flack

i wish i had more for trender as well but this is genuinely the first time ive written for him so im still all OWOWOOOUGH!! with how i wanna portray him

okay so! the two above characters are fine with it because theyre on the spectrum above but i feel like eyeless jack just outright doesnt care if your ace or not since he has a fairly low sex drive 99% of the time

sappy man, one of those "i prefer people based on their personality rather than their looks" but not in the "im so deep for this and im lying through my teeth" way i (personally) see people say (school was ROUGH man) but in a "im literally turning into a monster my skin is fucking blue and starting to rot i have no place to say anything" way

wweoeoeohh! i hope this post is okay! admittedly i wasnt sure how this was going to turn out since, as stated above, i feel that a lot of the characters wouldnt mind/are on the spectrum themselves im not gonna lie this couldve been better but im so out of it rn that my brain is all scattered n stuff :( regardless i hope this is sufficient, and once again im so sorry for the wait TToTT

cause like. the rvb writers dropped a lot of balls, but this is the one i find personally the most upsetting. like. a soldier getting irreparably fucked up by an experiment gone wrong is the kind of premise i read fanfiction about (that probably says something about me but im not gonna examine it. moving on). especially since he STAYED with freelancer???? you could take this in so many different directions- his fellow freelancers are worried about him but he pushes through anyway. his fellow freelancers ARENT worried about him and push him harder than he can handle. the director pulls the ai fragments and theres hostility from more than just the one-dimensional "raging bitch" character. the director DOESNT pull the ai fragments, which seriously calls into question the ethics of the whole operation (which i believe is more in line with the pfl that was described in earlier seasons, but thats a story for another time) AND puts potential pressure on wash to get another implantation (oh my GOD. show me THAT version of pfl).

and of couse. how could i possibly forget epsilon. there is something so uniquely tasty about 2 characters who went through something traumatic together and then didnt see each other again until ages later- ESPECIALLY when one of them was the cause, even though they werent directly at fault, and the other was just unlucky enough to be involved. like holy shit????? the TENSION that would cause???? the discomfort being around each other? the guilt? having nowhere to place the blame except the director?? oh my GOD literally any interaction between them couldve had so much FLAVOUR. im not saying they need to be the main focus of the story or anything but we didnt get a single interaction!! not even a crumb!! like. do something with the fact that wash needed to have alpha in his head in season 6 despite refusing to ever have another ai after epsilon. do something with wash needing to SEE and HEAR and TALK TO epsilon again. do something with epsilon remembering fucking exploding in washs head!!!! im not asking for a lot here- asking for a lot would be suggesting a scenario like the one from season 6, except wash needs EPSILON in his head for some reason and gets legitimately triggered by it or cant bring himself to do it. thats the kind of shit i want to see, but i understand that that isnt carolina-centric enough so ill get it from fanfiction as god intended. but cant i ask for at least some awkwardness? maybe an uncomfortable confrontation? irrational hostility? SOMETHING. it doesnt have to be the focus but it should be THERE.

munch is 110% a bookworm. reads quickly but voraciously, no preference between fiction & nonfiction, but you will see him more often with the latter.

for more hands-on hobbies, probably knitting at first. he clearly knew how to sew before meeting the lyons so this just gives him an outlet completely divorced from survival techniques. he gets super blushy & smiley when he completes his first sweater for scotty.

i think he'd love to go on family outings, but depending on where they're going, it'd be tough for him to illustrate his boundaries & fears. im thinking more along the lines of county fairs, amusement parks, farmers' markets, & basically anything with huge volumes of people combined with constant noise. i dont think he'd be one for amusement park rides at all, but thats ok bc i totally see dot as the one who goes with scotty on everything, while he & wayne wait behind like the worrywarts they are. i think he'd be good at the carnival games, though. like if scotty wants a big teddy bear he'll be like "ugh fine" & then john wick his way through the shooting games. im not sure about others where he'd be the complete center of attention, like the strength mallet thing, even though he'd get a ridiculous score since i think he's a lot stronger than he looks.

one of the first things dot gets him to help him adjust is noise-cancelling earplugs, which are especially necessary since munch doesn't react well to music or electronic visual media so irt scotty playing video games i dont think he'd have any idea what he's looking at. if he finds the willpower to sit through a movie, subtitles are an absolute must, & even then i think he can only handle old movies for a while since they aren't as demanding on the senses as contemporary cinema.

i dont think munch would go to a therapist, or that the lyons would want him to anyway, being that his bond with dot is bone-deep and, for lack of a better term, supernatural. modern medicine is just not equipped to handle a 500 year old living body that's presumably developed immunities/resistances well beyond the limits of a normal human. dot & munch learn to heal while in each other's company simply because they are the only other person on earth like the other. obviously dot is not a sin vampire but its my headcanon that she & munch share a strong psychic bond, too.

aside from the basics he learned as a hitman (operating vehicles, using phones), i dont see modern technology having any place in munch's life. its not that he can't learn how to use it, but he doesn't see how it would add or subtract anything to the way he lives. i think at most he'd have like a basic smartphone to keep in contact with the lyons, but its strictly a phone & not a multimedia platform.

(Literally every fic ive read of chiscara has childe make the first move and I understand its because scara is the most emotionally constipated man to ever be written but I feel like them already being in a relationship pre wipe+ the backstory of him having lots of time in sumeru to heal would make it not tooo ooc)

It is a reader fic, but in all fairness because I specify she is a Baratheon, that will mean certain physical traits are implied and is in many cases, important. The distinct apperance of a Baratheon is a plot point in multiple respects throughout the main story, and both with the gifs I post and the descriptions of other characters its clear I am basing many characters on their show adaptation. Meaning that there are multiple implied things about the way the reader will look by calling her a Baratheon.

I also don't tend to restrict myself on how I write my readers. I don't really like the idea that readers have to fall into much more blank slate categories. Readers can be as general or as specific as their author wants, and I am perfectly fine with either. I've read reader fics where the reader literally has a first name, before. Right off the bat I specify she is a female and a Baratheon, two things already which some people will not be able to relate too.

I don't use x reader fics personally as blank slate reader characters, but I use them as a writing style I prefer of second person point of view. I understand general non descript readers are important to some, but especially for this story, their apperance as a Baratheon is actually integral to their role in the story.

The only way around that would be to make her as part of a completely original House but that would take away the role of the story her as a Baratheon was intended to play, thus she has apperance descriptors. Which I do try and not write a lot of so its overwhelming. But enough to remind the audience even subconsciously, that her apperance as a Baratheon is something which plays roles still in the current story.

The only not important descriptor she has, is that she's kind of short and yeah that's totally just self indulgent. I'm short so I write her as short because that's the only height oriented world view I have.

I don't hide that she has an appearance, but I simply don't think the strict blank slate reader is best for every writer or story. It's case by case basis what works best for the writer. Her apperance isn't meant to alienate or offend anyone, but it's written as a reader beacuse it still gives some wiggle room for the story's audience to use their imagination about the character instead of having such firm and unchanging standards that come with an oc.

There's no room for personal interpretation with oc's which is fine, but thats not what I'm aiming for. I just don't like writing such generalized blank slate reader characters, and her apperance being that of a Baratheon is much more plot oriented then anything else.

Everyone writes their readers differently, and I totally understand if my fics reader character's description as a Baratheon turns people off. That is totally fair.

hi i want punk recs! currently literally the only two things i consisently listen to are my chemical romance and joy division. my previous attempts of getting into punk have been thwarted by the fact that i dont like overtly political lyrics? like im ok with political music i just prefer the lyrics to be a bit more.. metaphorical about it. if thats too much to ask tho feel free to dunk on me

Punk is by nature a more political genre and so finding bands that don’t discuss politics in their lyrics is uncommon, but I understand the search for something less blunt at times.

For recommendations, I would start with emo-adjacent bands a la my chemical romance. Here are some off the top of my head:

Senses Fail - one of the first punk bands I’ve gotten into, and still one of my favorites. Their sound ranges from post-hardcore to emo to pop punk to metal-ish. If you don’t know those genres that’s fine, they just have a LOT of variety in their songs. Lyrics can occasionally be political but can also be concept albums like mcr, or deal with mental illness, being queer, personal stuff, etc. highly recommended

AFI - their old stuff is more purist punk but their more recent material is more emo/alt rock even. Another very diverse sounding band that’s highly recommended.

Pinkshift - one of the best new bands to the scene, a huge favorite. They’re supported by anti-flag, so you know they’re legit. Only one full album right now and it’s full of bangers.

Alkaline Trio - a more gothic punk act that, they have a very large discography so there’s likely something to love! Radio is perhaps one of the most iconic breakup songs.

The interrupters - punk infused with a bit of ska, very fun and catchy songs, some songs are more political but others are about punk community and overcoming hurdles in life.

Jawbreaker - one of the most iconic acts, one of the big inspirations for the emo scene, too. Community heavily divided one what is their best album but I think they’re all fantastic.

Misfits - shocked I didn’t think of this one sooner, as they’re a huge influences on my Chem. Horror punk that has some, uh, I suppose ‘problematic’ themes at time but is a classic for good reason (like most horror).

I think those are some good starting points… I hope they at least set you in the right direction!

Honestly your take on ,,dark“ fiction is interesting but I feel like there is no circumstance and no coping mechanism that would excuse minor x adult smut.

there is also a difference between exploring dark themes and romanticizing them.

Fiction affects reality, always has and always will and just because someone might use fanfiction as a coping mechanism doesn‘t mean it’s healthy or excuses anything.

If you write sa/noncon or abuse or whatever you deserve to be publicly called out if you romanticize it and especially if you don‘t give warnings.

As a victim of grooming and sa when I see someone writing about these topics and publish (!!) it as if it‘s something usual as a recipe it‘s disrespectful, especially if you aren’t a victim yourself.

i have hard limits myself, romanticization of nazism, slavery, real incest, age gaps when the older has known the younger since they were a child

i also have flexible limits, i don’t mind reading noncon when it’s part of a bigger story and it makes sense and it’s not romanticized, i’ve read a young snow x reader one that had noncon as a plot point and it was honestly so good, it wasn’t hot or anything, it was sad and agonizing and reader only found out what was happened to her by the ending so it wasn’t graphic (graphic noncon is one of my hard limits)

i do think fiction doesn’t happen in a vacuum but i also think fiction is a way to safely explore darker themes, and it all boils down to how you do it and why you do it

i used professor!remus as an example on that post exactly because it is my most problematic plot, reader is 17 and smitten, and the thing is, she is smitten because it’s remus, because remus is fictional so he’s perfect, if a 17 old girl told me she was pinning after her teacher and he was accepting her advances i would immediately tell the headmaster

the thing is, and its why i dont write and post anything of the sort, im 27 so i fully know how to separate fiction from reality and what my limits are and aren’t in both, but my audience isnt made of all people that feel like that and i do try to respect my audience fully

like i said before, content like that needs to be heavily warned, and if you don’t give warnings about it, it gives the impression that you don’t think it’s a problematic theme, and i do think thats an issue, if you write it, know its problematic, warn people about it so they won’t read it if it affects them, i think it’s fine, because it shows you know how to separate fiction from reality and that you respect the boundaries of your readers

i think lolita (the book) is a good example of that, lolita is written from the creep’s pov, so it’s written as a romance, people might empathize with him if they read it without any warnings or media literacy, but it’s not a romance, it’s the story of a creepy man going after a child and blaming her for it, when you read the book already knowing that, the experience is completely different

what i do find a bit problematic is how common some tropes are, and in that i can understand and support talking about how problematic it is (which is why i commented that we as writers have to know and show that we know that type of content wouldnt be okay irl): how often reader is “innocent” and inexperienced, the use of femininity as something fragile, the infantilization of grown women—and it bothers me more when is written not as a kink reserved for sex, but as the whole premise of the relationship

i’m usually very “extreme” on my opinions, but fiction writing dark themes is one of the topics i have a lot of thoughts, i debate on it a lot and i have different perspectives depending on the theme and how it is written

i personally prefer writing dark themes in other ways (i write about death and suicide a lot, one of my fics will deal not only with suicide but with the unfortunately common and widely known SA of young boys in the catholic church) but i know that the way i write it might make people uncomfortable even if it isn’t sexual/smut, and i wouldn’t get mad at people for that

For the later part of your question, i totally get it. Omorashi for me was something that turned me on but i also felt so disgusted by it for the longest time which caused me to basically stop doing it cause i thought it was 'too weird' and disgusting. It really wasnt until recently where I realised who gives a shit if its werid, and I starting seeing more posts on Twitter about kinks and taboo which only really pushed me further down the rabbit hole...again.

I think everyone has a right to think something theyre into is too werid and begin to hate it because of the way it turns you on, but i think a lot of it involves getting rid of societal expectations and just being you. Cause no matter what kink you have, if its piss or not, 99% of society will hate it and think you are weird for it. You cant please everyone but you can please yourself.
