Ep 10... oh boy theres a lot to say with this one.

We begin with a nice twist. The woman needing help is Akrida and the victim is the other woman who's stopped to help. Since I've recently been reminded of it, this set up instantly made me think of Sam.meeting Cole for the 1st time, but in that the one flatlined actually needed help.

The Akrida committed to the acting I see.

God the actresses did such a good job raising the tension

LOVE seeing Millie do more handywork around. We dont have nearly enough of her getting into machinery

Mary and John hating being left to research is funny af to me.

Congrats Mary for getting into college and I like that John is actually happy for her, even ribbing her a bit. Love that dynamic actualy.

"Normal life will have to wait another day" thay cut deep fellas ngl. Mainly because i would argue its exactly what Sam and Dean told themselves to put off actually getting to do anything they wanted. And we have this exact sentiment echoed 5 min later by Carlos for why they need to break up with Anton (cant afford to with the fate of the world on their shoulders). The fact that both of these are accompanied by Dean's monologue about hunting and happy endings? Very very relevant to Dean and the life he led. But more importantly, the "how far will I go to get it" echoes back a few.more things amd makes it almost ominous. We'll come back to this when we meet Mr Sheffield (i dont remmeber the characters name rn, will use it later when they say it) since the dark meaning to Dean's words is highlighted by his story.

This might be the most clear indication of who Carlos was before the Winchesters, the version Samuel was mentioning when talking about them a few ep ago. The lone wolf version, the impulsive one, the not getting close to ppl one. Im very happy they've changed, i think they're happier like this.

Sooo, either Jack was really the one experimenting on monsters or that actually was Hobbes' job, regardless we know what that turned into - not just the various bodyguards that our scooby gang has encoutered thus far, but the more insidious uses too like the monsters Cuthbert Sinclaire reprogramms or the manipulation of Mrs Butters or even Mary's own brainwashing. Safe to say all this send my mind to Naomi and how heaven has a very similar approach to keeping their angels in check. Fitting then that it's the Winchester side of the family that is MOL legacy with the Campbell side being the hunters family qho tends to go for a more straightforward will just eliminate the threat vibe (more hell aligned u could say). "A lobotomy makes most monsters subservient *wink*" he says and I cannot not be filled with revulsion on multiple layers. Including the actual issue with lobotomies generally and how their extended "use" was due to a fraud profitting off of people... yeaaaa all the red flags with Jack/Porter here. But also in general it goes back to the type of MOL we have in SPN, the exact kind that JAck/Porter is are the ones still alive, who have very little actual care of who they harm in their scientific pursuit.

You know the thing that actually annoys me about people like Jack/Porter? The fact that if he'd applied his knowledge to actually get ppl depossessed he could've actually done something helpful, that would save ppl, but nope, instead he focused everything into his fixation and inability of letting go. To everyones detriment.

Well, Roxy's motel room reminds me of several times we've seen Dean in similar places... especially after the Mark got bad.

Roxy breaks my heart. Everytime.

And we have another instance of possession being portrayed as the violation it actually is. SPN had a few moments of showing this, most notably with Sam and Lucifer, but we've rarely had such an indepth showing of exactly how someone no longer possessed is coping. The only other ones I can remember clearly delving into are Jeffrey in s7 and Nick in s14, but in both those cases, Jeffrey and Nick were more akin toa depiction of Stockholm Syndrome or at the very least a dependence had been created having been possessed so long. Which is in itself a bit problematic a message to send tbh, but Roxy meanwhile is the opposite. Not only does she not want the Akrida back, she actively is trying to deny it ever having happened initially and she def doesnt want to be reminded of it.

Ironic that it's Carlos who says the forgetting isnt working for Roxy... considering

I also adore the parallel made between Jack/Porter and Lata in this episode? Like they both have that scientific curiosity that can become really dangerous (as seen with Jack) but unlike Jack, Lata actually wants to help people so she uses what she knows (just as much a type of brainwashing technique as Jack/Porters lobotomy fyi) to offer someone help. But! Lata asks for Roxy's consent and is upfront, where Jack/Porter is lying and manipulating and taking foe himself.

Mary's instant red flag reading of Jack/Porter for the win, but she should've listened to her instincts faster. She believes next to nothing of his words. I love her so much.

I love the round table Arkida scene... its so much fun to watch. Ironic that the Akrida call hunters pests... also yay Dean!

The fact that Jack/Porter is so so pissed off is his own downfall tbh. The bitter comments fucked up his facade.

The description of her possession is way to visceral fuck I fogot how hard to watch this was. And how much it echoes to asault. Not even echoes tbh considering we have a clearer scene relating to sexual assault when Jack/Porter tries to have Dorothea possess Mary so thw comparison of possession to assault is very much there this episode.

Wonder if Jack Wilcox defected to the Brits in SPN? And began what would later be Lady Bevell's expertise? The fact that he even put on a British accent def is meant to remind us of Bevell and the Brits.

God Mary and John are obvious af that they suspect shit ... ffs kids!

Carlos continues to be the one that actually uncovers key info.

Aww, Carlos and Lata are so so kind and comforting with Roxy. I love them so much.

Im so proud of Roxy, but what I genuinely love about how the ep was written is that even if she'd have gone along with the erasing of her memory, it still would've been a valid way for her to move on. Like this it obviously works two fold in somewhat convincing Carlos they also should take a leap of faith that alls gonna be well with Anton, but its set up in such a way that regardless of Roxy's choice at the end, Roxy's own wellbeing was all that mattered however that looked. I can appreciate the nareative not ramming a specific interpretation down our throats.

Ah, yes, wartime decisions excusing the means... it nearly never actually applies tho, Jack. Tho I will say it's very satisfying having it be said to John who in SPN would use this exact rethoric for a while slew of shitty choices.

Now I wont get into the whole issue with the golem being used in this ep and specifically how they kill the golem - others have said far more better informed stuff on it (shoutout to @endofthebookpod fantastic episode discussion) and I do have a plethora of issues with it - what I do wanna say on the subject tho is that at leasr insofar as Jack is concerned it makes sense that he'd steal and use a golem for his own benefit (similar to how the nazi did in 8x13). The actual problem with this is how the writers chose to tackle dealing with the golem here. Because ultimately the golem is used as a weapon by Jack, just as all his lobotomised monsters were. But the ep chosing to not clarify a few things and deciding to burn the golem??? Not good fellas, not fucking good at all.

I do appreciate John's resilience in fighting the golem tho.

Like I said, the sexual assault parallel to possession is even more clear when discussion Mary's possession.

Gruesome death for Jack tho, I will say.

I've recently been rethinking about biology in Solar Years for some reason and animals and whatnot, and I figured "Hey, since dragons are real in this world, I should figure out their role in the pyramid of power", so I've decided to take a page outta the megaladon phenomenon and make them essentially predator hunters. Cuz, I don't know if you guys know this, but Megalodons were the biggest shark alive in the ocean, and there's a recent theory suggesting that to survive in an enviroment like that, they didn't target bigger prey animals, as that would drive the overall oceanic population down and inevitably end them, but rather predatory animals. So I'm using the same system for dragons in this world !

Deagons are instead classified as "huntorar", hunter of predators, they're massive organisms with both magical and biological control over their respective eco systems, ranging from the biggest winged rare fellas (Comandea Huntorar Draconis) to the smallest wingless common fellas (Commonis Huntorar Draconis), but since they have so many biological advantages and are unlike most other creatures, they're also severely nerfed in some other aspects- For example, there's not many dragons at all in one place. The chance of finding any major winged dragons in a continent is incredibly slim, their numbers cannot multiply without severe immigration to a common place and since most of the world is already occupied, there's no real set date or even place for them to go to. Breeding is also complicated as most dragons are female and deep within cave systems, with the male ones being smaller and just kinda hanging out in bodies of water. They spend 2/4s of the year asleep, and without all the specific nitty gritty in their diets its easy for some to get angry and go ravaging nearby towns.

There really is no solving that issue honestly, dragons are way too important for the ecosystem to be just hunted, and since most of the ones who end up breaking into villages are males anyway, its also punishable by law to harm them. So what have people taken to doing ?

Tame those fuckers, of course :)

For now its usually preferred that the only dragons to be tamed are small wingless ones, but there are many studies looking to move on to their winged counterparts for individual travel. They are most often utilized as big farm animals to carry stuff around, some smaller breeds are used for herding (and fun fact, they're usually accompanied by dogs and are immediately accepted as just another herding dog), and some are just there to scare off any other males that may try to get in the village.

I'm really digging how you thought out the whole thing with living spaces and how societies would adapt and react to beasts like these, it's brilliant! I imagine dragon taming is a veeery high expertise task! Also them being used to scare off other invading male dragons is so clever, great touch! I'm wondering if the female dragons living deep underground would be a bother to miners? And minework in general. Do those ones ever get tamed? Or attempted to? They'd be magnificent mining companions, if it'd be reasonable to assume female dragons are well adapted to cave life and all of it's quirks and dangers. Also additionally since the males hang out in waters, would they be good swimmers and if so, tamed for seafaring or fishing tasks as well? How does their natural lifestyle of sleeping 2/4s of the year work in tamed dragons? Do the people just get em a nice spot and wait out the sleeby season?

Also very realistic that mega beasts like these would be few in numbers, since a large animal takes way more resources to just keep itself alive and well, and it'd be bad for all of them if they all hunted as prolifically as their dragonic hearts desire. ~Ecosystem stuff~

ive been reading a book on human and primate evolution called the first idea (by greenspan and shanker), specifically about the evolution from a non-sentient animal to an animal thats capable of like, going to the moon, and i figured id brain dump some of my thoughts about it here because. theres a lot

im pretty sure this book is about as old as I am which is WILD bc i was baffled by how much shit in here i just did not know about. idk how much of that is because i never researched super deep into some of these topics, and how much is just bc this wasnt scientifically accepted fully when it was published, but still.

The heart of the book really is the authors model of the development/evolution of intelligence, as thats the bit that is constantly pulled up and referenced as you work your way through human development, psychology, (paleo)anthropology, sociology, etc etc. They hypothesize that while humans are born with the genetic and biological capability for things like language and logical thought, its not inherent, and are instead developed slowly over the first years of a childs life through sustained emotional regulation with their caregiver. I could never explain it as well as they do, but the jist is that the first step to developing intelligence is symbol formation (being able to seperate the concept of "mom" from the person "mom"), and the dual coding of experiences (a baby experiences a sound as both loud and frightening, or soft and soothing. both objective and subjective).

Theres 3 parts, the authors walk you through a shiiit load of stuff.

Early human development, focusing on the role of emotions and caregiving in healthy neurological development. They focus a lot on ages 0-2, but do discuss neurological health and stages of development from birth til death. The main point put across here is an argument against determinism in regards to human evolution. ie that the process of a child developing language and logical thinking is not coded in their genes, but rather a dynamic learning process between a child and its caregivers using emotional signaling (conveying emotional states using non-verbal communication), as well as generally outlining their model, the different stages of development, and how it works. Theres also a few chapters on their model applied to autism spectrum disorder development

Primate evolution (mostly). There was a large focus on the bonobo ape Kanzi (who, if you know anything about ape language studies, uses a lexigram board to communicate quite well) as one of the authors had worked with Kanzi at some point and was able to learn from him. Theres a Lot of really cool personal accounts from the author that were incredible to read. Of course also touching on chimp hunting practices and other primate behaviours, and then connecting it all back to the same model of a dynamic learning process between child and caregiver, and showing that all primates have a developed intelligence that can be placed at a level roughly corresponding with various ages of human children. insane. ofc they then go through and argue their case against the many other hypothesis for human evolution. very engaging read

(2.5.) theres also a lot of information in this part about ASD, coming from one of the authors who worked extensively with high support autistic kids, particularly in teaching them how to form and use symbolic ideas, and how to use those as a basis for learning language. They use their model and explain ASD as a breakdown of the ability for a child to engage in this dynamic emotional process that is required for functional development.

Group cohesion and the social structure. to be fair, im only about 3 chapters into this part, but the segments I have read have done an incredible job at both describing the current understanding of why and how social groups form and work (or dont work), and then applying everything previously stated to much more 'current' political groups. This part seems to be leaning away from anthropology and more towards sociology and political science oddly enough, but im very excited to finish it

Right so I dont know whats going on at any given moment in this class and I 100% didn't do the readings.... which is and might be more problematic than I want but alas; me versus scientific journals is a battle i will never win especially if the journal is 33 god forsaken pages. Aahh, total forgot this happened in like real life. So, I do A-Levels and I'm going Eng Lan and we had a lesson on Fandom. Like Fandom-Fandom, I read a scientific article on how fandoms on tumblr used language and all that. And it was simultaneously the worst and best thing that happened.

Like there was a list of fandoms on the presentation and it brought up young justice, the show, which is like the first big fandom I was really active in and it used Nightwing's Insignia for the young justice logo and I was so upset. It's cool that my fandom is still relevant to the mainstream but kinda miffed they used that symbol.

Next, is we had an extract to read, it was from a Harry Potter fanmade forum, and my teacher was like "Tell me about the use of language? Is it hard to read for those outside of the community, is there fan-specific jargon, would you feel excluded from the discussion?" And like the fantrash I am, I did not see any of it. Yes, there was talk of like a character and like the sweets but my brain with like nearing a decade of fandom influence did not feel excluded. In fact, I was confused that they choice that text because it did not give me "Deep in fandom" vibes.

so the soryu one (think this is the first post-wedding story of his btw, wow) starts with the MC waiting in the living room for soryu to return from work. she falls asleep but wakes up upon hearing the door open. she’s embarrassed that she fell asleep like a kid so she pretends to still be asleep. he’s like aww waifu and then kisses her hair and carries her to bed. then he gives her another kiss and tucks her in. the entire time mc’s like waaaaa husbando so sweet. he vanishes to the bathroom and then she’s like waaaa i did not know that’s what he did every time i pass out

PLACE OF BIRTH.  While the show often mentions Cumbria, I’ve done a lot of thinking and I think this is one of those instances where Lucas North’s history overrides John’s as far as canon information given .. so I’m gonna throw that out and repeat one of the first headcanons that I posted. John Bateman was born in Abbotsbury, England. HOMETOWN.    Abbotsbury. It’s a small village known for its history. John was born when it was fairly quiet, but as he aged, the village did as well. While originally focusing much of his time and work at the bed and breakfast known as number five, the increase in tourism as the years passed meant that as John aged, his father began taking on more and more jobs. He eventually was able to start being a one man service and hired on a few local boys to help as well. John was occasionally asked to come along or to help, but he complained the whole while

Your mother was turned into a vampire when you were just 6. You grew up looking out for her and moving around constantly.  You absolutely hated it. Then one night you decided you don’t want to help your mom. She’s a vampire, she kills people without you knowing. But you caught her in the middle of feeding- killing. You were horrified, you made a promise to never take an innocents life. You ran from her but, if you knew who was out in the woods that night. Heaven knows you would have just stayed with your mom. But you didn’t, you ran. You ran into a vampire hunting party. They captured your mom and thought they were saving you. They brought you back with them to their facilities, where they explained their operations. They capture vampires and do tests on them. Trying to find a scientific reason to how they became this blood sucking monster that they became. 

To say you were mortified is an understatement, this is torture. They would torture your mother. You were scared of her but you didn’t want this, you didn’t want your mom to be used like this. You needed a plan to try and get her out. So you stuck around and helped the Augustine cause, but with your own side plan in the works. Eventually you were able to become unsuspecting to the group. They wouldn’t question you if you went into the cell room to see the vampires. You gave them their one glass of blood and when it came down to it, you were able to get your mom an extra glass. All because of the man in the next cell. 

It all started when you first broke into the facility and found your mom and the man 5 or so years prior.

“Hello there, darling.” His soft English accent voice came from the cell next to your mom. Who was passed out from exhaustion, they tortured her the second they got her.  “12144, at your pleasure.”

“I’m getting you out of here, both of you.” You promised, frighten about this place.

“Good luck with that, Darling.” He sounded defeated. But you weren't giving up hope. You promised yourself you’d get your mom out, and now you know there’s more than one. Nah fuck that. You’re getting them out.

“I got a plan. But you’re gonna have to give me some of your blood.” You whispered to him, his eyebrows raised in confusion.

“I’m not taking it. I’m going to turn someone, give them” You signaled to the people who you could hear upstairs walking around, “a wild goose chase. Giving me enough time to get you out of here.”

“Thats only gonna do so much, how's this...” 

From that night forward you and 12144 followed the plan to a T. He’s the reason why you joined. You thought of everything together. And you hated that he was continuing to get tortured and maimed, same with your mom. You hated the Augustines. 

The only good thing that came out of this torture, was the love you felt for Enzo. Over time you became a watch guard, watching over the ‘subjects’ to make sure they don’t desiccate. You couldn’t remember how many times they over-tortured someone and they desiccated in the jail cells. You tried to help the wounded vampires. but couldn’t do much. It started to take a toll on you emotionally. Enzo had been there for you.

As you heard the screams of your mother, Enzo would distract you. Keeping you occupied enough to not pay attention to her mothers undying wails. Pretty soon after that he let himself fall madly in love with you, you tried to resist accepting it but... when it came to a love like your’s, you could only holdback for so long. He knew how to talk you, and when you talked to him, he listened. He really listened to you. He fell into sync with you, knowing when you have your bad days or your good days. Knowing when to ask about your childhood and knowing when to shut the fuck up and let you sit there in silence.

You never knew someone could love you the way he loved you, and you were going to do anything in the world to keep him in your life.

Finally the day came, the day where you were able to break your mom and Enzo out. It started with you turning yet another human to a vampire. It weights heavy on your conscious that you’ve had to turn so many innocent people into these creatures, but anything for the people you love.

You sat at your little desk, waiting for hell to break loose upstairs to get them out, Enzo giving you a nod of reassurance. 

“This will work.” You whispered, mainly to yourself. One of the scientists came in with a tray of cups with an ounce of blood for your mom and Enzo. 

“Hey there, Y/n. How’s your night going? They causing any trouble?” He set the tray down, lingering to talk to you.

“Justin, hello. My night’s going nicely. Very uneventful” You chuckled, earning a little laugh from him. He looked you up and down with a smirk on his face as you stood up, grabbed the tray and walked over to your family. Leaning down to place the cup on the concrete floor. Doing so, Justin checking you out as you lean down. Enzo noticing from the floor, almost hissing at him.

You gave him a look, “You okay?” Justin’s voice pull your attention away from Enzo. He placed a hand on your shoulder, helping you up. Quickly setting down the other cup in your moms cell. 

“Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry. It’s still hard to believe Vampires exist. I’ve convinced myself for the past five years they’re just a myth, and we’re crazy.” You joked, earning a small laugh from Justin again.

Suddenly, there was a huge struggle going on upstairs, causing you to flinch a little. Justin hurried off, slamming the door behind him. Upstairs the vampires you turned attacked the house, the only reason they were able to to get in was for the maid. The Augustines had handed the deed of the house to the most unsuspecting person in the house. But it was also easier to get her to take off her vervain necklace and invite them all in to wreak havoc. With the distracted scientists you looked the door, getting out the keys you’ve stolen over the years and open the cell doors. Opening Enzos first, he immediately pulled you into his arms, taking a deep breath to calm himself and to focus himself.

“Oh Darling, you have no idea how badly I’ve been wanting nothing more than to just hold you in my arms.” You smiled, caressing his face.

“We’ll have all the time in the world. Let’s go!” You went to open your moms cell door. She enveloped you into her embrace for a quick second.

“Okay let’s get out of here!” You said, guiding them to the second exit.

“Okay, this is when we go our ways... Just for a few days.” Enzo held your hand, not wanting to leave you here with these monsters.

“Everything is gonna be fine, now make it look convincing.” You motioned to your neck. The only way to make it seem like you were innocent was to get hurt in the process. 

“Don’t worry Darling, when I see you next, I’ll heal you right up.” his raspy voice calmed you, he placed a kiss on your forehead. Holding your head in his hands, staring him in the eyes when he says, “I love you Darling, I’ll be waiting for you.”

You looked to your mom with soft eyes, “I love you, Hun. We’ll see you soon.” Your mom vamp sped out of there to the cabin you would meet up with them in a few days.

You gave him a nod, turning your head to give him a better angle. He sighed, extracting the fangs from his mouth and lodged his fangs into your neck. Slowly you felt your eyes wanting to close, and then suddenly the blood loss became too much. Passing out just has he removing his fangs from your neck base. He moved a strand of hair from your face, he picked you up just to lay you down on the floor. Afterwards he himself wreaked havoc. Turning the place into a mess, then sped away to meet your mother at the cabin.

When you woke up, you were in a hospital room. Gauze pads taped to your neck, a few wires and an iv connected to you. You began to freak out a little, then someone in a suit and tie walked in with a nurse.

The nurse said a gang had attacked your workplace, stole medicine, attacked and killed almost everyone. She said, only a few of you arrived alive and only you made it. With that she checked your vitals and left to another patient. Then the man in the suit and tie spoke up.

“Ma’am, I’m a representative from the Augustine lawyer team. What you’ve experienced, and what you know. We want to offer you a deal. You sign this contract, your bills are taken care of, you’re set for life, and you’ve never heard of us.” He pulled out a stack of papers, handing them to you to read and sign.

“What happened? What really happened?” Your voice was raspy and low. He poured you a cup of water, handing it over to you. You nodded as you took a sip.

“Vampires attacked you guys, was able to release the vampires that were captured, and almost killed you but they were interrupted. They tried to flee but the sun came out by that time and they burned to ashes right outside the property. You don't wanna know the amount of work it took to cover that one up.”The man spoke so nonchalantly, it almost creeped you out. Like he is used to covering up vampire incidents.

You nodded your head, looking down to the contract. After going through the contract paragraph by paragraph, you signed it. They can’t let word get out they torture vampires for a living. You get a new identity, money, and a chance to live happily with your mom and the man you love so incredibly.

Once you got released from the hospital you made your way first to your apartment that was provided to you from the Augustines. Packing up your clothes into bags and leaving to the cabin.

You're anxiety rising the closer you got to the cabin, getting excited to finally live your life with loved ones safely. Enzo had been playing the guitar as you mother read they heard the roaring of a vehicle getting closer. Enzo vamp sped outside to the porch, seeing your car come into view. He instantly smiles and lights up. She made it. 

You jumped out of the parked vehicle, running into Enzo’s embrace. The smell of pinewood and fire ash, oddly bringing you a sense of comfort. You still smelled like hospital, but to him you smelled like vanilla and dust. making his chuckle. 

“What’s so funny?” You giggled, pulling away enough to see his face. he looked at with a big smile.

“Oh nothing Darling, I just can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” His accent and meaning behind his words made you smile, your face warming up along with it.

“ahem” The sound of your mother clearing her throat made Enzo correct himself.

“With your mother alongside us as well” Enzo turned around, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. Walking along with you up the porch steps to hug your mom. “You know I can’t forget about you.” 

“Hi mom.” You hugged you mother tightly, Enzo wrapping his arms around you two. 

He smiled and sighed deeply, finally he got everything he’s wanted. A woman he’s madly in love with, who happened to rescue him from the god awful Augustine people. You mother had become very close to Enzo, she cared for him and loved the idea of you three spending your lives together.

Oph MC is usually seen as flawless and perfect (like every other MC in choices) what are some bad habits or flaws your MC has and we know Ethan's flaws he is one of the few li's who have actual flaws but still I'd like to know your Ethan's flaws which are personal or you have imagined them. (English is not my first language can't explain my request more clearly than this)

Do you see them married with kids in the future ( ik the marriage part you have a fic about it but here is what I specifically want. both of their opinions on this matter before meeting each other and after spending a year or two dating)

First Question: 

I definitely don’t see Gen as perfect. I’ve kind of put a lot of myself in her, which I’ve never done with any other MC I’ve played. I kind of see Gen as as a perfectionist, to the point where she gets in her own way. She also, like Ethan, tends to put everyone’s problems on her shoulders and feels responsible for thing that are way out of her control. And though Gen is patient, sometimes too patient, she can hold a grudge. It’s unhealthy and she knows that, but she has a hard time over coming it. Like with Landry, deep down Gen wants to let it go and move on. But there’s a small part of her that will always feel angry and betrayed. Gen’s also not one to put her own needs ahead of others, it’s rare that she’ll ask for what she needs, unless she 100% trusts the person she’s confiding in. (I have a headcanon where her dad cheated on her mom when she was in high school, they didn’t get a divorce, but Gen was the one who discovered the affair and it left a sort of trust/abandonment issue.) She can be rather clingy in a relationship, at first, something Ethan was annoyed with, he’s rather independent I think, but once he understood where that was coming from it didn’t bother him as much. It was just Gen’s way of reassuring herself that Ethan was hers, that he wasn’t going anywhere. Plus her love language is physical touch/affection and spending time together. 

As for Ethan, I think he’s a very closed off person, has a hard time trusting people. He absolutely will push someone away, not because he necessarily wants to, but in order to protect himself. For me, I think one of the main reasons why he didn’t dive 100% into a relationship with MC was his fear that he’d lose them. That they would walk out the same way his mother did. I also think he’s way too stubborn and has a hard time admitting when he’s wrong. He won’t be the first to back down in a fight, even if that means it makes him unhappy. 

Second Question: 

I absolutely see Ethan and Genevieve married with kids. Gen has always wanted to get married, always wanted to be a mother. She’s had a pinterest board since high school thats dedicated to her dream wedding lol. When she found out Ethan wasn’t 100% on board with marriage, she was bummed. But at the same time, she was/is willing to let that go if it meant she could be with him. As long as she has Ethan, she doesn’t need a ring. Gen’s also always believed in soulmates and fate, she knew after their kiss in Miami that Ethan was her soulmate. 

As for Ethan, I think deep down he’s always wanted kids but never saw them as an option because he never thought he’d find the right person to settle down with. I think that also ties into his past with his mom. Same with marriage, when he wasn’t in love, it didn’t make sense to him. But once he was, realized he never wanted to lose Gen, he understood it. Once he recognized how much he loves Gen, he wanted everything with her. Marriage, kids, all of it. With MC/Gen he realized he could be the parent he wanted to be. 

I have a scene in chapter 3 or 4, I can’t remember which, in Love You Home where Ethan and Gen have the marriage/kids talk. 

Third Question:

I think Ethan has an extended family. We don’t know much about his parents, if they are only children or not, but I think either his mom or dad has a sibling or two. They’re definitely not close at all, he probably doesn’t see them. But they exist. Gen’s influence definitely persuades him to reach out, in the same way she influenced him to give his mom a second chance. 

As for a best friend? I don’t think he has one, I think Naveen is his closest friend at the moment. But I would love for him to get back in touch with maybe a childhood friend or friends from collage. Maybe even become friends with some fellow attendings at Edenbrook. Again, I think have Gen/MC around has really opened his eyes to different things and realizing how important friendships and relationships really are. 

And at some point I may write something for that. 

Fourth Question: 

I love that you see Gen as a piano person because I also see Gen as a piano person. She doesn’t play much now, lack of access to a piano and too busy with work but she does know how to play. She also speaks a baby bit of french, not enough to be fluent but enough to understand her maternal grandparents (they’re first language is french, so they speak it interchangeably with english). I also think she’s a pretty decent singer, she did choir in middle/high school.

As for hobbies, Gen is super into photography. She’s not the greatest, but she loves it. It ties into her being a super sentimental person, she likes to have tangible memories. She also loves journaling, she definitely has a bullet journal that she does herself. It’s relaxing for her, after a stressful day. And I don’t know if you’d count make up as a hobby, but Gen is super into it. On the daily, she really only wears eyeliner, mascara and a light lipstick, but on her days off she experiments and does more intricate looks. I have a headcanon where Ethan comes home and sees Gen in like a super dark lip with a kickass winged liner, very femme fatale, and he’s shookith. 

Fifth Question: 

I go back and fourth on what med school Gen went too, I googled top 100 med schools when I started open heart so I could pick a good one for her lmao Its a toss up between University of California or University of Pennsylvania. Gen is from New England, she grew up on the coast of Maine - not too far from Providence actually. So I sometimes think UPenn because Gen would want to be close to her family. But then sometimes I say Cali because she wanted the adventure of going off on her own. At some point I’m going to have to choose obviously but where not there yet lol Still a toss up. 

Sixth Question: 

Genevieve is absolutely a fresh air girl. She loves the beach and being outdoors. Boston is a bit of a change for her, being a city but it doesn’t take long to find some country air here in New England so she gets both. lol 

Seventh Question: 

LMAO I love this question. I never thought of this but you know what Gen absolutely believes in aliens. Not in a weird conspiracy kind of way, more in a scientific kind of way. There’s no way Earth is the only planet in the galaxy to have life. The galaxy is freakin huge, scientifically there is no way we’re the only planet with life. 

Eighth Question: 

Pineapple on pizza is a crime. End of story. No one should ever have pineapple on pizza. No just...no.

Ninth/ Last Question: 

I’m going to answer this for each of the things you listed in your question. 

Anxious: It’s very easy to see when Gen is feeling this way, at least to Ethan and her friends. She retreats inward and does this like twisting motion with her fingers. Like cracking your knuckles but not actually cracking your knuckles. She’ll also bite the corner of her lip. 

Scared: Gen doesn’t scare easy, but when she does she kind of hugs herself, makes herself smaller. Will hide behind things or run away. She’s a flight not a fight when scared. Especially if its like a spider, bug or snake - she’s terrified of those. That’s a freeze or run and scream situation. 

Happy: Super easy to tell when Gen is happy. She gets really smiley, a little bouncy. One of those people that does that little happy dance of swaying back and forth. 

Excited: Same as happy, big smiles. Jumps around. a little dancing. Lots of giggling. 

I’m gonna add one more here, for shipping purposes lol 

In Love: Gen is affectionate af, very touchy. She’ll show you how much she loves her way before she ever says it. Ethan realized she was in love with him months before she said it. Just by how much more open she was with physical affection. Always gently touching his arm, or kissing his cheek, always willing to hug him or snuggle in close.

MASS EFFECT DS9 CROSSOVER PLEASE SHARE SOME THOUGHTS

You have. Opened a can of worms, friend.

Ok so as far as set up i was picturing like. Wormhole/space magic shenanigans bringing the Normandy to DS9, set somewhere during that little window after Shep and Co. return from the Suicide Mission at the end of 2, but before Shep turns themself in to the Alliance.

The Normandy, badly damaged, limping up to this mysterious space station theyve never seen or heard of before, don't even recognize the outline or architecture, but hey at least they seem to be friendly? And they're offering to help fix our ship and get us back where we need to be so I guess they aren't all bad?

So then Shep and crew are stranded on DS9 for at LEAST a couple weeks while they try to get the Normandy fixed up, and allllll the shenanigans the respective crews get into, especially once they start interacting with each other

-There's the obvious of course, Shepard and Sisko would get along fantastically, I think. Both the leaders of crews of mixed bags, sometimes trying to get them to work together is like herding cats. Strong cats with guns and opinions, but at the end of the day they really are kind of a family, aren't they?

-Both are able to understand what was supposed to be one (relatively) simple mission turning into way more lives at stake than they signed up for (Shep with. Well. The entire events of the trilogy, but then Sisko too. Bring Bajor into the Federation. Thats it, that was the mission, but suddenly we're at war with a frankly stronger superpower from another quadrant and suddenly one station is supposed to be the head of it all? The pressure. The lives at stake if they fail. Yeah.)

As for the rest of the crew:

-The next obvious, I think, would Grunt and Worf. Very different methods and cultures, obviously. I'm not saying they'd necessarily GET ALONG even, but there'd be a mutual respect there, I think. Both coming from warrior races, fighting is in their blood, its what they know. And theyre both outsiders to their own culture, being raised primarily if not exclusively by Someone Else, having to fight for their right to have a place amongst their own people. There's a shared strength in that.

-Mordin and Garak, and their shared past as spies. Garak's penchant for lying with every other word out of his mouth vs Mordin's tendency to only say about half of the words in his sentences, each trying to weasel the truth out of the other. Each at the very least recognizing that theyve done horrible things in their past, but not necessarily having regrets for them. Well, no regrets they're willing to admit to.

-BUT THEN ALSO Mordin and Jadzia, really just. Best Science Bros. Mordin can be extremely focused, which I think might turn Jadzia off of him at first, up until she catches him singing under his breath while he works. And once their discussions start trending more towards the importance of art and culture alongside scientific advancement is when they really start to shine together. Also I think Mordin would be absolutely FASCINATED by the Trill, the symbiotic relationship and the symbiont carrying memories across hosts, how the symbionts and hosts merge, etc. Nothing like that really exists in the ME universe

-Julian and Dr. Chakwas could talk some about medicine, certainly, barring nothing else about the differences in their respective medical technology. But I think ultimately she would get tired of his attitude, and he would decide she didn't really have anything new to teach him.

-Julian, I think, would be much more interested in spending time with EDI and Legion. I mean, consider how he was in the one TNG episode, when he got to meet Data? He would be over the moon especially for a chance to study legion. The Geth Collective is genuinely an interesting idea, and I think he would be fascinated by the varrying levels of simulated intelligence, but without individuality. EDI would be an interesting study, because this would be before she got the mech body, so she would still for all intents and purposes "be" the Normandy. A ship as a living entity? With emotional attachment to the crew inside? Absolutely fascinating. And if it were a bit alter on that this happens? She has wants! And fears! Absolutely fascinating!

-Dr. Chakwas, on the other hand, would probably end up spending her time with Keiko O'Brien. Swapping stories about their times being forced to be on the relative sidelines, having to watch all the horrible things their loved ones are constantly dealing with and only being able to do so much. Keiko's exasperation with Miles and Chakwas' with Joker. (And Shepard). Plus really i just like to imagine them having tea together ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

-Kira Thane and Mordin I can picture spending hours upon hours deep in discussion, about ethics and morality and religion, and how the hell you're supposed to reconcile it all when you have so much darkness in your past.

-Kira and Thane, especially, have a lot to talk about. Kira fighting in the resistance her whole life vs Thane being raised as a living weapon, both deeply spiritual and refusing to believe that their respective peaces are denied to them, that they can still find their own redemption and make up for their pasts.

-Joker would spend a lot of time trying to avoid Julian, who I think would be very insistent on wanting to study his Vrolik's syndrome, and possibly trying to cure it. Joker really Does Not Like Him.

-Tali would inevitably spend a lot of time together with Miles, because assumedly they'd be working on fixing the Normandy together (when Miles isnt busy trying to fix one of DS9's 50 million other problems). I don't know that they'd honestly have much in common aside from engineering-related stuff, but they're both geniuses in their respective versions of their fields and comparing the 2 universe's technologies alone could take more discussion time than they would have.

-I don't think Jack would. Actually try to get along with anyone. I see her spending the vast majority if her time camping out in a holosuite trying to program it to let her kill simulations of everyone she's pissed at.

-Miranda and Julian. The two genetically engineered kids. Yeah there'd be a lot to talk about there. Parent drama? Feeling like you have something to prove?? Trying to find the "you" underneath the genetic tampering??? Yeah they'd get along.

-Ok hear me out on this but. I really think Garrus and Garak would end up having a lot in common. I mean, think about it: Cardassian military/goverment/cultural structure compared to the Turians? Love of state above all else, everything is for the State (but then family above even that). And on a more personal level? Getting into a profession, a LIFE, to impress your father and then it still isn't good enough, nothing will ever be good enough, so you keep trying and going to more and more extremes to be good enough and still nothing matters. And you haven't given up on your people, no, never, but they sure have seemed to give up on you, in a way, haven't they? Exiled (Garak), ignored at every turn (Garrus), but hey, here's this one human at least that'll listen to you, and maybe even help you where others won't, so maybe things aren't all bad? Garak lies through his teeth at every turn, Garrus knows this, but he knows where to pick up the specs of truth, too.

-Jacob, bless his soul, gets roped into "babysitting" Jake and Nog. Jake distracts him by taking advantage of his chill exterior, just long enough for Nog to set off chaos halfway across the station. Cue montage of Jacob chasing the boys up and down the Promenade.
