my unpopular opinion for the day: i don't like the way the 911 fandom shoehorns the firefam into a nuclear family situation. Bobby may be a father-figure for Buck, but he is not really his father and Athena is definitely not his mother. neither of them raised Buck, or even knew him when he was a kid, and that's kind of a big part of being a parent
the thing that pisses me off is the mom!Athena thing, because it feels like the only reason people say that is because of Bobby and Athena's marriage. Buck and Athena never had that kind of relationship. she may affectionately scold him, but like Bobby she didn't raise him, and unlike Bobby, she doesn't feel any kind of responsibility towards him. she loves him and cares for him, and he's part of her family, but that doesn't make her his mom. in fact, Buck already has a mother figure, and it's MADDIE. frankly, Maddie is more of a parent to Buck than Bobby is
and this goes for Maddie, May and Harry too. Bathena are not parent-figures for Maddie. Athena is Maddie's friend, and Maddie's on-screen relationship with Bobby is almost non-existent, same with Buck and Maddie's on-screen relationship with May and Harry. they're not siblings, as far as we know they barely know each other.
I just hate the way people want to shove Buck and even Maddie into the Grant-Nash family like a little nuclear family cutout. Bobby will always feel responsible for Buck, more so than he does for the rest of the firefam, and Bobby is one of the most important people in Buck's life. but being a parent isn't just about a relationship dynamic, it's about child-raising, and money, and teaching.

as a fellow cis bi person who has also dealt with a lot of prejudice, i really don’t think this particular conversation is about us
Idk, I think when people start re-using the exact same language that was used to attack bisexuals against other queer people while also spreading blatant lies about bisexual/queer history by straight-up pretending a huge part of bi history just didn't happen, the conversation starts becoming about us.

It would be kind of funny if what doesn't get me this job is that I failed the enneagram they just made me do. At least for the 2 seconds before I grab an axe and go out on a hunt for hiring managers.

Checked my tumblr, and it was in September 2020 that I did a post where I said I wasn't going to reblog art of Spock where he is green or blushing green. I wanted this to be a safe space for Jewish folks who find it to be uncomfortable. There was a lot of dramatic feedback from folks, including from Jewish people who said they didn't care if he was green. This isn't for them, it's for the folks who do find it uncomfortable.
If you look in my archive, from September 2020 until now, you will see a lot of Spock art that I have reblogged. What does that tell you? That it's really fucking easy to make art of Spock without making him green and plenty of artists have done it. So if you are an artist and want my reblogs and my followers to see it, you know what to do. Or not to do. 😉

"...'Villains and Monsters', huh? Not to demean or downscale, but isn't that just a matter of perspective, when you get down to it? Everyone's the 'Hero' of their own story, when you think of it, no matter how 'Heroic' they may or may not be, however noble, vile, tragic or exemplary. You're still people, however 'good' or 'bad' others see you... or however you see yourselves..."
Tumblr media
"How we see ourselves can only go so far. How heroic would I truly be if I see myself as God's gift to the world and the best way to show this is to conquer 'lesser' people, even if they were living on that land for centuries before I would ever come? How about a child who can only see themselves as nothing but to be sent by God to punish a family for their backstabbing avarice as there is no other evidence to the contrary? Words, wishes, and intents have no meaning when it comes to execution and action. And in the end, there is only one objective perspective to have in all this--
Tumblr media
"--And it's pain. It can be observed in others and within oneself. Be it from hunger or anguish, obtained or afflicted, pain is real and cannot be ignored. Time passes and history rewrites, but pain remains. Ideally, those who afflict pain on purpose, be it for glory, God, or gold, ought to be punished, not exalted. And yet here we are. We just happen to change one part of those goals… and it is for the Devil. So even all the more retribution must come our way.

I don't know how to tell people it's not the digital part or the computer part or the non-human part that makes it not art.
It's the fucking massive theft.
Disabled have artists have been making art since disability and art existed. It's not going to stop. No one's saying it should, and no one's saying anyone can't use non-traditional tools. What we're saying is that you can't use a tool that doesn't actually make art, it just strings together stolen hard work of others, and then claim that you "made" it. It's the same reason we don't let CEOs claim that they "made" the products they sell; they fucking didn't, they hired other people to do that so they literally wouldn't have to do it themselves and could profit off of the labour of others.
That's why AI is not art. It's a fucking slap in the face to all of the artists, disabled or otherwise, who spend years and years building up their craft, only to have it stolen so someone else can get rich and exclude them from art altogether.
You want disabled art to continue? Don't fucking support AI.
"ai is making it so everyone can make art" Everyone can make art dipshit it came free with your fucking humanity

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.

Keep seeing that post where OP starts like 'Thinking about...grieving the undead' and then adds on about like. Real life situations where people have not died but have left your life and you would have reason to grieve them.
All respect, that's an important concept, but that is not what I am thinking about when I read 'grieving the undead'.

not to sound like a boomer, but I need some people to learn how to write emails in a semi-professional (at the very least) format so you're not cold emailing a business/potential employer/any other stranger about formal matters in the exact same way you'd DM a close friend on instagram
the formality/language can loosen up in the email chain once you've established a rapport and you match the other person if they're being less formal, but please don't have the very first email you send a stranger be written in all lowercase ultra-casual sms slang with no greeting or signature and a billion emojis
