It’s me (again lol), I was wondering about Whorlstar. I really like her, but I feel like we don’t know much about her past in Oakclan. Would it be okay if I asked about it?

Humm yeah sure! I haven't thought too deeply about her time in Oakclan but these are things that are confirmed true to me

She doesn't have any family there, and was likely adopted into the clan as a young cat (This is why she is lenient on letting rogues/kittypets of any age join)

She was a pretty respected warrior from a young age, always more serious and reliable than her peers so she got leaned on a lot

Despite this she was never trusted much by Palestar, probably bc she wasn't clanborn (he has really relaxed his opinion on this now, but Oakclan used to be pretty conservative). So even though she by all rights Should have been deputy, she wasn't

She invited literally everyone from Oakclan to come with her, but nearly all of them were too nervous to leave and thought she'd gone bonkers. Most of them regretted not following her afterward though and she still is wondered about like a kind of legend in Oakclan

Hello loves, checking in for the first time in a while. New pinned post here we go. I'm not saying I'm fully back but I'm popping in here and there, writing a bit on the side (which is hard because applause keeps me alive but I'm not planning on posting things until they are done anymore. I hate being the forever-WIP person).

Life is fine as it can be atm, I'm currently tumbling through a few new fandoms and touching base with some old ones. Projects are in the works across about four different fandoms, don't ask me how it's just how my brain works. But I miss talking with people who get my brand of crazy and love to day dream details and scenarios, so if anything strikes your fancy my ask box is once again open. Lack of self acceptance is keeping me from seeing these characters in full blown romantic relationship, but I don't mind - the sweeter that glass will be to chew on, when everything goes south.

Gortash didn't expect bhaalspawn to be a gnome and never really got used to it, since she doesn't look nor behaves like a cold blooded killer bhaalspawn is supposed to be. But in due time he realized that it is even more dangerous: Durga demonstrates not just charm, but care and affection that barely anyone can remain indifferent to. She easily becomes the one person from whom you wouldn’t expect a dagger in the back and definitely wouldn't want to. Though she probably can come up with something more original.

Your mom is less reliable than Durga is! Which in case of Gortash is even true.

A small gnome woman with pleasant voice and soft caress makes anyone forget what she is. Not so many people even saw her slicing and dicing. Not because she doesn't do it - she enjoys it greatly quite often, that's a ferocious cat that ignores her small size and ready to take a bear - but to preserve that unthreatening image of herself. Well, even if they did see... I imagine her to be a very good liar. To explain how persuasive she is, I'd say, in a room full of dead bodies where she will be standing with a bloody axe in her hand, you ask her who killed all those people and she will say "It sure wasn't me" and roll nat20. It's an absurd example just to get the point across, but you get me.

So yeah, Enver of the past did forget quite often. Didn't say it out loud and was right about not doing it: Durga is always quick to remind. Caring mommy image is just an image. Though there is some sincerity in her kind actions, she is able to snap to a furious cunt in an instant and get back again just as fast (I have a scene in mind just for that). There's a question in the list "what your Tav's greatest talent". Well, it's acting. This sweet voice changes into growl real fast, always smiling face distorts, someone gets a lethal blow and all of a sudden sweet voice and smile are present again, everything is happening so fast it's hard to comprehend. And if you really think about it (despite me explaining it so poorly probably), it's quite creepy actually. I think it's creepy. You never can tell when she will switch.

Couldn't say she's acting all the time in front of Gortash. She's just positive towards him in general and willing to get him to the end of the plan by whatever means. Nevertheless he received some unexpected hard slaps on the face as well. Non lethal, obviously.

I didn't decide yet if I want them to develop romantic feelings for each other, but even if yes, none of them would know what it is and definitely not Durga nor Gortash would act on them. Durga is willing to praise Enver's genius now and again, saying she can't help but appreciate the design of what he's organizing at the moment, but it's really nothing compare to feelings she asked Bhaal forgiveness for.

Sure! :DD

I think the easier way to give some tips is by showing my own process.

(I won't explain here the basics of shading, but if you want I linked a tutorial down at the end of this.)

First off, the program I use is Krita (but any program is ok 👍✨) And here's the brushes I use:

I'd say use at least two brushes. A soft one and a harder one.

To show you I'll use this doodle I did of Murder!Sans (by @/ask-dusttale)

First, flat colors.

Then start shading on a new layer and put it in Multiply mode, then change the opacity at your liking. Don't use black for the shadows! Use a dark color. I usually use a purple or a brown.

Now with the same color, go on a new layer (Multiply mode), and add extra shadows where light has trouble reaching. This gives more depth to the drawing. (To make this process easier I use the Select Opaque option, by right clicking on the Base Shading layer, down in the menu, and then paint on the new layer)

Now fill the canvas with the light's color (or do like me and duplicate the Flat Colors layer, and recolor it if you want the light to be only on the subject). I'm using yellow since it makes a nice contrast with the purple. Put it in Pin Light mode and change the opacity at your liking.

Now I- I can't explain what "Bouncing Lights" and "Sub-Surface Scattering" are, so... go see on internet :''D Basically slap some red and blue over the shadows layer in Overlay mode and voilà

It'd be more noticeable with less light but trust me, it's good

Now let's talk about ambience. We can create many different scenes just by playing with the light and shadow layers! Change their colors, change the blending mode, play with 'em and see what you get:

Also I suggest studying how color schemes work (I'll link you a video down below). I uhh actually kinda suck at color schemes XD but having at least a basic understanding of them it's useful.

Another month of silence when things were going so well but well, life happens. I actually managed to draw a bit through all that happened and couldn't bring myself to like post or interact. I'm sorry for that. I'll throw some things in queue now that I'm procrastinating looking for a new job while having a lot of free time.

I mean tbh I'm oddly good now? Idk how long will it last but compared to like 6 years ago (last time I really had to look for job after working in small family run businesses that fucking sucked as much as you can imagine and then some) I must say people are right, things do get better. And it creeps up on you. I'm slightly baffled about that.

Like honestly. I'll actually miss my old job. And compared to 6 years ago now I have savings, reasonably rented apartment and they will still pay me for almost 2 months of not working. I even have (maybe naive) hope that the looking for a new job process won't be so bad :)

my perception of “tall”, and height differences, is INCREDIBLE skewed, and i haven’t realized that till recently when i. draw characters and people are like GAHDAMN you drew him tall
