-Donnie isn’t averse to EVERYTHING goopy and weird. (Like the yokai pizza he ate w/Leo in “operation: normal” and the Joey pouch he sat in with Leo in “hidden city job”)

-Sunita. look, she clearly has a taste for fashion (the fashion turtle pointed THAT out) and she chose to go into SCIENCE/biology class, out of many options. She would be besties with Donnie.

Isaac Turner’s got a really upbeat digital vibe to him that’s great, his songs are fun like Nelwards. Kinda like adjacent to Will Wood with the fun alternative sounds but way more into the music just for the joy of making music. Earth is a good starter song to listen to.

Nelward is also in that same branch where if you like fun kind of weirdcore vibes to songs you’ll like em. If you like songs from like WxS or fun songs like Shrimp Miku. Never wanna Fall in Love with you is a good starting song

If you like rap or gritty music like Odetari, Removeface is good.

One of my fav rappers is flo milli she’s good. If you prefer more Rnb you’d like FLO they’re a girl group who has like destiny child vibes. Their newest song Check is really good

Chlöe also has like Flo Milli and FLO vibes so if you like them you’d like her too

Back to a more peppy silly vibe is Spellcasting. They do just so much fun music and if you like vocaloid ppl constantly say they’re like a vocaloid producer.

For more calm stuff there’s artists like Raveena, Vansire, and Charlie Curtis-Beard. Vansire is SOOO good I personally love their stuff. Charlie does a ton of like smooth rnb I’d also recommend Rain in Pasadena

If you like dark like romance songs there’s also Obsessed by Luna Day which is really good. They used to be popular a while ago with animatic memes but Pomplamoose is a good one. Ignore that their recent album is in French and they’re planning another one in French soon, their old music is in English lololol

On the like older genre Autoheart and Ludo are great. Oh my gosh stalkers tango by autoheart and the entire You’re Awful I love you album by Ludo has my head forever.

Back to R&B there’s also like Lemon Baby by Maasho. Two dimensions by EASHA.

Jhariah is kinda like a mix of the ascending vibes you get from Charlie Curtis beard mixed with like etherealness but also the weirdcore vibe of nelward if that makes sense? A lot of their stuff is like supervillain animatic stuff but to like done by an artist who must’ve sold their soul to be producing such amazing work.

No Guidnce is like a male group of singers in the same way FLO is. They’re so good and literally so talented it’s crazy

Ilya is kinda like Chlöe. Her background music is great and she has such a nice voice. I like her songs Juice and her other song Tears.

The Happy Fits is an amazing band just as a whole they have like a fun beachy vibe

Funky name but Hong Kong Boyfriend is a great R&B artist that I really enjoy

Holy Hell by Ginger Root has like that love song R&B vibe but to the vibe of like those old wedding photos of couples just doing normal every day stuff? Like the older style sound is so good they’re like if you heard The Happy Fits but on a radio.

A similar artist is like Hojean. INSANE music talent and Let Me is so nice on the ears. It has like beach club vibes.

Citizen Queen is also a good girl group. I like their song XO and Special. They have a nice upbeat hip hop vibe that’s really fun

Ribbit by Swimgood is a super fun song about being a frog in love with a human.

For a more haunting genre Miracle Musical is always a good starting place. Blood and Bones by the Blake Robinson synthetic orchestra is a great listen too. Teddy Hyde also has a lot of like horror theme songs that are really good, I personally like Terry’s Taxidermy for the theatrics of it.

If you like Vocaloid idk if you have Sodikken but they’re really good

I think the peaks of like the haunting genre rn are Steampianist, the band Mili who puts out a lot of songs with a mixture of languages but mostly English, and like Babuchan (not English but still a really good listen).

Thing by Steampianist is a good opener to listen to if you wanna try them out. Tiny Fiends is also an amazing listen

Yaelorke also has a lot of song that I think fit r1999 really well for like the lost vibes.

Sparkbird is a really good artist to listen to if you like a disassociation kinda genre. A lot of their music just FEELS like derealization. A good starter there is Disembodied Mind or November.

Plus for a lot of vocaloid songs there’s like vtubers making similar songs in English since the fandom overlap!

He wanted to scream at him, I thought you killed him. Pete was the one who broke the stillness. As if awakened by something, he took a half-step back and made a motion with his arms, almost raising them to his chest, but not quite. In an instant, Pete reverted into the pet Vegas had been keeping at the safehouse, bound by handcuffs and afraid of his belt hitting flesh and drawing blood. A lump formed in Vegas' throat. "Have you stopped practicing? Your form is off." The uncanny similarities between Pete and his father appearance-wise didn't mean a thing when it came to their voices. Vegas shivered. Was this what Pete would sound like in a few decades? (Were these the condescending words he'd choose to spew? Was Pete going to embody his father? Was Vegas embodying his?) "What are you doing here?" Pete whispered. "They let me out for a few days, so I came here to collect some money. Imagine my surprise when I found out my offspring left the job someone found him worthy enough of doing to... do what exactly? Yaai didn't want to tell me." He crossed his arms, waiting for an answer. Vegas didn't know what he was allowed to say. If he was allowed to say anything at all. "It's none of your business." "I'd say it very much is my business, as well as yaai's business who was dependent on the money you were making being some rich asshole's human shield." A choked sound scratched Vegas' throat. He didn't like getting reminded of Pete being the main family's bodyguard, even though he stopped being one mere months ago. Especially like this. That was the first time Pete's father stopped looking at his son and turned his head to look at Vegas. For a moment, there seemed to be recognition in his eyes. Did he know who Vegas was? Did he care? A snort came out of his mouth. He leaned on the door. "Oh, I see how it is." He laughed, scratched his neck. "I never expected you to whore yourself out for money. Tell me, is it preferable to the path I carved out for you?" Vegas could sense the disgust in his voice. He could also see it on Pete's face. He was too astonished to share it, but not enough to be unable to speak. "Khun, there has been some misunderstanding-" "Don't bother. I can recognize a faggot when I see one." Pete's movements were too fast for Vegas to stop him. A direct jab to the nose; his father fell like a pack of cards, groaning like a wounded animal. Surprisingly, no blood - Pete held back. Vegas didn't know what to think about that. "That was a pathetic attack, even for you." "Get up." "We're not in the ring, son." Pete growled. Vegas could see his hands trembling as he was keeping them in the air, maintaining an offensive stance. "That never stopped you before." "You were too young to understand what I was doing back then. What I was preparing you for." Pete was silent. "The world isn't kind. It'll fuck you over one way or another." He got up, spat on the ground. "You still haven't learned a thing. You're too old to afford being naive." He turned around, and without sparing a look at Pete again, said: "Now get the fuck out of my house." The Saint of Bright Doors

a surreal Sri Lankan fantasy about colonialism, revolution, mixing fantasy with the modern world

follows a man raised by his mother to kill his father, a god-like cult leader

but as an adult he puts aside his life of violence and moves to the city for a quiet life

he becomes fascinated with ‘bright doors’ around the city that never open and have no other side, and joins a group studying them to find out more

and a support group for those with divine heritage that becomes increasingly revolutionary, until the task he was made for reemerges and his life upends

Let’s get to it shall we?

So, I have studied the drawing for a bit and ended up coming up with around six relevant things that are probably symbolism

First is the mirror- it is cracked though it mostly is intact, the cracks all originate from the same point in LBM’s reflection: their eye. Mirrors tend to be good for identity symbolism, showing a character’s reflection and all, so thinking about it like that and seeing the state this mirror is at we could come to the conclusion that it probably means LBM has identity issues. This will come back later

Next is the fact LBM is making a gesture of shooting herself, which kinda makes me concerned for his mental health tbh. I see this as potentially symbolizing LBM not liking themselves or at least holding some sort of grudge towards himself. Or maybe it’s meant to be like the past them is dead or something, idk

Next is the fact the mirror is cracked over the eye it never opens, which I’m starting to think is actually missing. Now, I don’t know how you differentiate your Bloodmoons but I have seen others and myself use the ‘two eyes-two twins’ method, so like one twin has one eye and the other the other, and if you do this as well then the implication here is that one of the twins is dead. Which I think is true actually because of the drawing you dropped when I asked you for lore the other day (which I saw but forgot to reblog :()

Next is something I’m not too confident on and am purely adding ‘cuz I think it’s funny. So the yellow stains yes? They seem to be magic of some sort, though their most notable feature is that they’re yellow, and according to the Bibble yellow is the color of betrayal. And deceit and illness in the negative side too I guess. Feel free to disregard this one :P

Next I want to turn to the background on the reflection. It’s all destroyed and there’s magic flying and stuff, which probably means LBM is in a really dilapidated place, or she lost her temper, or I’m overthinking, idk I’m not good at catching thematic symbolism

Next let’s look at the Lord’s expression. Vacant. Empty. I’d say maybe even melancholic. This just strengthens my conviction of one of the twins being dead y’know?

And finally, what I asked about before, the flowers. Red Anemone Flowers have a plethora of meanings, as is standard for a lot of flowers, and thanks to your answer from a bit ago I could narrow the potential meaning a bit. First the slightly more unlikely one, emotional attachment and fragility, two of the Anemone’s meanings in Japan, tied to what we saw before and the fact a mirror— aka a very fragile thing —is in the scene we could get a somewhat emotional view at LBM’s state, seemingly missing someone who they cared for deeply. Then we have one I’m almost 100% certain you intended for, death and loss of a loved one, it just fits so well with everything else, LBM, the bloody god, thinking back on his past and mourning the (potential) loss of their twin, holding resentment towards themselves for it and the environment showing that. And lastly the thing you 100% intended for, the blood of Christ, I mean, I mean, c’mon almost all the art you’ve made for this guy has heavy religious tones, why wouldn’t you use the flower that represents The Christ’s death?

So, putting this all together, I think I can string together the lore that’s being implied here:

Lord Bloodmoon’s twin is dead, they might’ve died on their own terms or the Lord might’ve been involved someway, who knows, what matters is they are dead. And Lord BM, not being very fond of emotions but anger, doesn’t tend to show how much it affects him, mostly turning all the emotions into itself, maybe even having the feelings grow into self loathing stemming from guilt? It affects her, badly.

So yeah that’s my reading

Tbh I’m not very good at symbolism; foreshadowing and implications of the past and characterization are a lot more fun to play with for me personally, and I kinda sucked a lot at catching symbolism in school assignments, so if I got everything terribly wrong I apologize
