Reading SVSSS: Chapter 9

For those who don't know, I am reading SVSSS for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

I feel so weird sitting here in the morning reading this, this has been my night-time routine for 8 chapters!

In all honesty the fic I was reading this morning just wasn't it/my brain kept coming back to my boy Shen Qingqiu, so here I am 8am on a Sunday heading into the Borderlands.

Jesus christ. the fact that in this moment SQQ hates Sha Hualing's nails- not because there is a kid about to get slice and diced, but because in the novel she uses them to tear up Luo BInghe's back when they fuck. I cannot with this man *face palm* p187

okay we have a name for this young master- Yang Yixuan, and this little baby is Liu Qingge's disciple! p188

learning about how Luo Binghe's cultivation works with his need to basically dual cultivate to level himself out has me officially believing that the system basically allowed SQQ to build the ideal body for Luo Binghe. he definitely has the excess spiritual power LOL p190

This interaction with Sha Hualing and Liu Mingyan tho...I really love Liu Mingyan! Wait- oh no! Not her clawing her face!!! p194

2. What's your total AO3 words count?

675,033 (about 200k or so of these aren't actually mine because when you do a collaboration with several authors, it adds the total word count of the fic to everyone's word counts)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mass Effect mostly. Once in a blue moon Dragon Age. The majority of my posted fics are Supernatural.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Season Z Watching You Truth or Dare You Should See Me In A Crown Lock Me Up (These are all Supernatural)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I respond to every comment I get! There have for sure been times where its taken me months to do so, but I always do.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Here's the thing, "angstiest" is super subjective. I've got lots of fics with pretty angsty endings. There was a point at which people regularly called me a murderer because I had a habit of killing characters. However, I tend to find 'fate worse than death' much angstier than character death, so this one in which Dean burns off his soul to find Cas' grace to save him is it, I think: Whatever It Takes.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

You Should See Me In A Crown. I have a tendency to not do straight up happy endings. Like, trauma doesn't just go away, ya know. So my happy endings tend to be more melancholy/hopeful or what have you. This fic is absolutely an exception to that. Everyone gets what they want, the guy gets the guy. Basically I wrote this like an action movie haha

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've never gotten *hate* on a fic, but I have gotten comments that are rude and shitty in the way of commenters being demanding about what should happen in a fic or complaining that things weren't written the way they wanted them to be. My response to that usually something along the lines of "you fucking write it then."

9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?

Yeah! I very much enjoy writing smut. I think probably most of the smut I write is pretty vanilla, although I have definitely written some more intense kink by request and also because I like to challenge myself and learn new things. I do think my sweet spot when it comes to smut is leaning into the emotion involved. For most of my characters sex is less about the physical act of sex and more about trust and intimacy, so leaning into that works for me.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have an unfinished Supernatural/Into the Badlands fic, and honestly I only ever wrote one chapter, but I had initially planned to do a chapter for every episode of Into the Badlands. I also have a half-outlined, partially written Supernatural/Dragon Age crossover in which Dean is a templar, Cas is an apostate, and Sam is a Grey Warden haha

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don't think so

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Several! Its why my word count on AO3 is so high, actually lol

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I have a lot of ships across a lot of media, but the one I always always always come back to is mShenko.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Oh god, I have a ton of abandoned WIPs from my Supernatural days that I'd love to finish but probably never will. I just can't bring myself to write Supernatural fic anymore.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character voice and creating dynamic relationships between characters.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Consistency, especially in long fics. My writing style tends to change, sometimes pretty significantly, from one chapter to the next.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Hell yeah, I love multilingual characters, and I love putting foreign language dialogue in fic. If you're using a made up language, you can kind of do whatever you want. If you're using a real language, try to find a native speaker to help you with it so you don't accidentally end up writing something offensive or that you don't mean to.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Lust. I wrote this fic for the SPN Dark Fic bang in 2019 because I wanted to write murder husbands. It was honestly super fun to take a full loving, domestic dynamic between Michael and Crowley and juxtapose it with them also being incredibly brutal murderers.

5 things about me... I’m not the most interesting human but here we go:

1. I have 25 days left until I graduate! (my roommate & I have a counter on the fridge) I’m going to have a Bachelors of Environment and a degree in Geomatics. Geomatics is basically a combination of geography and computer science and I spend most of my time making maps (random but I really enjoy it)

2. My hair is currently the longest it’s ever been, it almost reaches my belly button (tis crazy). In January I cut bangs and I love them and don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. 

3. My favourite snack is goldfish, I always have a bag open and a good repository of extra bags. 

4. I loveee camping. I’ve gone camping every summer since I was little, sometimes for weeks. One of the coolest places I camped was Badlands National Park in South Dakota, it was absolutely stunning camping in the middle of the desert surrounded by gorgeous mountains and rock formations. The sunrise was incredible.

5.  I’m a good driver (? no one's told me otherwise) but I HATE parking. I still will park super far away from the store for safety reasons. I one time scratched my roommate’s car in a parking garage, got it repainted within a few days and she still has no idea🤫

the scene opens in the island of tarth, where brienne is shown working at a bar covered in rock singers’ posters and getting helped by her seven year old daughter in the background cleaning tables or something, while her boss catelyn looks at her and tells her story; a good man is hard to find (pittsburgh) [obv with reworked lyrics];

cat jr goes back upstairs since they’re about to open, brienne asks for a small break, goes out on the beach, stares longingly at the ocean and wishes to have back the happiness she had once that while she loves her daughter she hasn’t quite managed to grasp yet though we still don’t know what it’s about; hello sunshine

brienne goes back to work, we move to cat jr - she wonders where her father ended up since brienne never told her who he was while she rustles through stuff in the attic and finds some half-faded letters sent to a couple men years ago and she wonders if one of them might be her father - she finds the addresses and writes them figuring that one of them might be and she wants to see her mother happy, so what’s the harm?; waitin’ on a sunny day;

first guy who arrives is joncon who tells her that no, he’s actually her godfather but he knew her mother for reasons and wonders at how long he’s been far from the island but he had to get over his bf who didn’t love him back; my hometown

second guy shows up and he’s renly who also confirms that he’s the other godfather and one of brienne’s oldest friends but maybe she should look a bit deeper to find her real dad and when she does things will go admittedly better - brienne will find her guy again same as he’ll find his guy at some point; two hearts;

cat jr goes back to the attic to look up for more clues and ends up finding a picture of brienne with two guys one of which was torn off but the other is there and wait he has her hair - it’s tyrion, who she assumes is her dad. she asks renly and jonc to help find the address and writes him and he gets there in time for her birthday, but when he arrives he tells her that no, the dad is actually his brother but he’s delighted to have a niece; surprise surprise;

at this point cat wants to know the backstory and why isn’t her dad there. the other three guys look at each other, sigh and tell her that well it happened years ago when they all were on vacation on tarth same as the whole of the lannister family....

IMMEDIATE FLASHBACK where we see younger jaime and brienne meeting at some beach party and jaime asks her to dance; tougher than the rest (jaime only);

she accepts even if she can’t believe it [he’s coming out of Bad Cersei Relationship News so he’s kinda fucked up but he honestly wants to leave her behind], they ended up having sex; cover me [jb duet];

later tywin finds out and forbids jaime from seeing her except that brienne who at that point wanted to be a singer and had regular gigs at catelyn’s bar comes up with a scheme to smuggle him out and have a night out with both tyrion’s help and the bar’s patrons etc; rosalita (brienne mainly + tyrion/jonc/renly + jaime getting himself dragged out of the house);

after that, they discuss running away together; thunder road (duet);

FLASHBACK ENDS, we’re back on the island where brienne finds out everyone showed up and she’s like yeah no I’m not calling him again, tyrion tries to tell her that it didn’t end badly because of the reasons she assumes, she cuts him short and says that she knows she’s going to end up alone and it’s fine, she always knew; when you’re alone;

at that point shit happened in between and renly started flirting with loras who’s another new bar patron, jonc started flirting with cat’s uncle, brienne is taking herself out of the equation, tyrion is flirting with bronn ie the local cop or something, ends up with choral number with reworked lyrics for spirit in the night, end act one.

ACT TWO

always rent style, opening number with everyone going for tunnel of love;

we open up straight somewhere else where jaime is on his own, living in some shitty small apartment having lost a hand after enrolling with the army after things went sour with both brienne and his family; born in the USA;

jaime muses about how things ended - basically cersei ruined stuff for them going to brienne and telling her about their rship and jaime had gone after her to call it quits after arguing with brienne on the beach about it but then brienne wouldn’t take his calls anymore and he never had the guts to go back. he receives a letter from tarth from tyrion who tells him he has half a chance in hell of fixing things and he hopes he can manage; back in your arms;

meanwhile on tarth cat jr is like shit this place is so boring will I ever get out of here did you three have such an interesting life until now, tyrion/jonc/renly explain her that when she leaves it’s better if she sticks to being herself rather than conforming to other people’s standards; growin’ up [all four of them]

meanwhile brienne is on her break again and is missing jaime horribly bc tyrion brought it all back and wishes she could get out of this damned impasse that her life became; badlands;

jaime arrives on tarth without brienne knowing and immediately meets his daughter and learns her middle name is actually jamie and realizes brienne named her half after him and is Overwhelmed As Fuck and swears that he’ll try to do right by her; living proof [both of them];

at that point though jonc and renly are like yeah we’re the godfathers though thank you and they all assure her that they’re going to be in her life; I’ll stand by you, [all three of them];

brienne finally learns that jaime is back and she’s not exactly that hyped because she thought he left her for c. and then she realizes he’s missing a hand and they have a heated-ish confrontation; for you [duet];

jaime is despairing that he’s ever going to win her back after she tells him he’s too late, everyone else assures him that if he goes for it convincingly he still has a shot; wrecking ball [everyone but jb];

jaime feels somehow better for that and gets his spirits back together; my love will not let you down;

jaime organizes things with cat and brynden so that evening while brienne is out serving drinks at the bar he shows up on stage like HEEEY I have to tell you something and tells her he still loves her and wants to get it started again between them; mary’s place [mainly jaime, everyone else does backup];

brienne is still like OH MY GOD SHOULD I, jaime proposes; i wanna marry you;

brienne decides that damn it she still loves him and he obviously means it so yeah sure she’ll marry him; leap of faith [jb mainly, everyone else choruses]

closing number with everyone having paired up etc with born to run.

It occurred to me in spite of all the silly comics and dumb AUs i do about Red, I don’t think I’ve ever formally introduced her. So here is Red Deer, for once on her own and not overshadowed by her idiot friends. 

I’ll preface this with my Edmontonian bias as usual; truly, Red Deer is more than a pit stop and there was one time I actually stayed a whole week instead of a whole hour! Amazing.

Body Type: Long Tall Sally at 5′9″. Flat chest. Rail thin (+ some muscle) and just as rectangular.  Hair: Red/Auburn, would be above shoulder length when down. Tufts in the centre. Eyes: (Light-Medium) Brown Ethnicity: White-passing Metis (English/Scottish + Cree/Blackfoot/Stoney) Other: Freckles. Nose is like a little v shape. I sometimes draw her with antlers because it’s cute lmao.

General: Quiet and stable but not shy and very chatty with friends. The perfect blend of jock and nerd. HISTORY

- natural crossing point on the Red Deer River for thousands of years - named because the local Cree were like ‘so yeah this is elk river’ and the Brits were like ‘wtf is an elk that looks like a european red deer or whatever’ - literally founded by people who got tired of going back and forth between Ed/Cal and decided to lay down in the middle in defeat - perfect balance of farm/ranch - also the site of a NWMP fort like Cal, occupied by the Montreal Fusiliers during the NWR in 1885 - secretly has a little bro (North Red Deer) - big debate about whether to have the demonym “Red Dearies” or “Red Deerios” but decided on the standard (boring) “Red Deerians” - generally quiet and uneventful which probably is why she’s called Dead Rear sometimes lmao

BIASED HAPO FACTS

- i’m biased but rdc is amazing and 10/10 would recommend to people thinking of doing some art stuff, seriously it’s a gem and if you’re in high school check out their summerscapes programs because you get to experience dorm life and meet chill people from around the province and spend ALL DAY learning and doing cool stuff!!  - this is more of a red deer river fact but one time for paleo class i went to red deer with phil currie (yes The Philip J Currie) and he told us about the time decades ago he went for a little raft down the river without bringing sensible things like a map or a water bottle or anything because he wanted to find some bone bed joseph tyrell took a photo of once so he just was like... wandering around the badlands with no way of contacting anyone and half delirious with dehydration with this photo and he just turned around and There it Was and then we all disappointed phil currie who promised to identify anything we picked up and when my classmates approached him he’d say ‘oh that’s an ankylosaur wrist bone’ or something amazing but every time we brought him something he’d say ‘that’s a rock’ - the doughnut mill’s best doughnut imho is the orange creamsicle. who would think of an orange creamsicle doughnut??? a genius that’s who. also peter’s drive-in has the Best chocolate milkshake i’ve ever had and i’m lactose intolerant and i would have drank that whole goddamn thing with no regrets were i not kindly sharing it with my lovely chaperone. why would you Ever waste your time going to an average fast food chain when those two places exist. - currently looking for red deer artists to listen to if they exist because i don’t actually have any so hmu if you have music recs. I’m really annoyed that the cbc music site is so hard to search and i wish i could find music by location on there so maybe i will write an angry letter. - every time you tag a picture of the rockies with red deer on instagram, part of her soul dies because it’s a Lie - i’ve been downtown red deer exactly once in recent memory and that’s when the greyhound home from Calgary stopped at the station lmao. Apparently there’s actually a city beyond Gasoline Alley, Amazing!

A Small Update

In case you couldn’t tell, I’ve been absent for the past few days.  When you see my posts, it’s coming from my queue as I like to have it built up as much as possible due to my lack of logging on as of late.

Why have I not been logging on as of late?  Well, for many reasons.  One, my family and I are about to host two foreign exchange students.  We are stressed to the max waiting for their arrival (which is this Friday - I can barely contain my excitement!!).  We’ve been shuffling to move furniture around in my house to make sure they both have a place to sleep for the year and to make sure their arrangements here are as comfortable as possible.  Then, literally two days after they get here, we will have to get them enrolled into school and they will start it the next day, so that’s stressful.  Basically, other than the excitement I feel about them coming here, I’m feeling a lot of stress - I will have to share a bathroom with two more girls, I will have to make sure they are fed every day, basically I am gaining two sisters.  Tell me that isn’t stressful (but exciting nonetheless. Can you tell I’m excited?)

The second reason I’ve been absent is my lack of inspiration for writing.  This isn’t something new, I’ve been too focused on other things to sit down and write like I would like, and when I do find the time to sit down and write, I can never get my fingers to move and I can’t get my brain to work.  It’s hard to really get into my work with my mind on overdrive like it is.  That being said, I’m not entirely sure when Badlands will be updated, so for right now it’s on hold indefinitely.  

Thirdly, my mental state is totally whacked, having only little to do with all the stress that has been packed on lately.  I’ve suffered from depression for a few years, this is something I’ve shared openly in the past but I’ve never been too candid about it, not because it’s difficult to talk about, but because I can never really put into words how I feel sometimes.  Sure, I take meds for it and I promise you all I’m doing just fine, but considering the stress and the lack of motivation, some days just become almost unbearable.  It’s made it hard for me to enjoy writing and logging on to Tumblr overall.  I still love this family and I’m forever grateful that I’m a part of it!  You all keep me going!  And again, I’m okay, please don’t worry about me :)

Lastly, I just want to thank you all for sticking with me despite my inability to keep you updated with content.  Because of this, for the next week or so, or at least until these girls move in and I have a lot less stressful of a routine to follow, I’m going to be queuing your work.  So again, until I actually have the time and motivation to post my own work, please tag me in anything and everything you want me to read, that way I can reblog it!
