uhoh! girl!
#it's her! my sweet cat#but man. i'm thinking abt why i cry over her so much and why i get emotional over how much i love her#first of all she's cute and extremely lovable#but like. you get a pet knowing that you will outlive them and they will die before you#that's a pretty unique relationship#and add this to the fact that she's not very smart and doesn't understand the intricacies of life#but loves you anyway? seeks you out for cuddles? gets happy when you come back home?#and she's really soft#my last living childhood dog just died and i'm upset#and so consequently i'm thinking abt pet death a lot so i'm more upset abt my sweet girl dying than usual (which is still a lot)#i just think the emotional nature of this pet-to-owner connection is really interesting. we love and care for these little guys so so much#i think people are motivated to give their pets as good a life as they can because they know how short it is#and they want to spend as much time as they can just enjoying their presence#maybe#anyway. i cry every single time i listen to a song from the saga of virtute by the weakerthans

something i enjoy about wincest is that i can just take it for granted. like yeah those brothers are fucking, they've always been fucking, and they'll keep fucking until god himself cuts off their dicks
there's a lot of ships in the world that require subtext and imagination but samdean is definitely not one of them
#liveblogging: supernatural#wincest#i enjoy those kinds of ships bc yeah you can ship whoever else you want with the characters#but you still have to acknowledge whatever the fuck is going on between these two#i think these types of ships allow for pretty unique conversations about them and the story they inhabit so they're fun#sure cas and dean can date but friday night is wincest sex night and cas just has to accept that. it's like that kinda thing#yknow what i'm talking about? am i making any sense#their relationship is so central to who these characters are that you can't construe them in any way without each other there#at least not believably#.txt

Been a fan of your fics for YEARS. I was just telling my friend how despite how much I read fics I never actually love them, with some of your fics (especially TMA) as the exception. Felt the need to reread some of them and saw you reblogged some ISAT fanart. So. Any thoughts on ISAT you'd like to share?
Hope you have a wonderful day!! So happy I found your fics again!!
I avoided answering this for a while because I was trying to think of a way to cohesively and coherently vocalize my thoughts on In Stars and Time. I have given up because I don't want to hold everybody here all day and I have accepted that my thoughts are just pterodactyl screeching.
I love it so much. I have so much to say on it. It drove me bonkers for like a week straight. I have AUs. It's absolute Megbait. They're just a little Snufkin and they're having the worst experience of anybody's life. Ludonarratives my fucking beloved.
I am going to talk about the prologue.
The prologue is such a fascinating experience. You crack open the game and immediately begin checking off all of the little genre boxes: mage, warrior, researcher, you're the rogue...some little kid who's there for some reason...alright, you know the score. You're in yet another indie Earthbound RPG, these are your generic characters, let's get the ball rolling.
Except then you realize that these characters are people. You feel instantly how you've entered the game at its last dungeon, at the end of the adventure. They have their own in-jokes, histories, backgrounds, adventures. They get along well and they're obviously close, but not in a twee or unrealistic way. They have so much chemistry and spirit and life. I fell in love with them so quickly.
But Sif doesn't. Sif kind of hates them, because they will not stop saying the same damn thing. They walk the same paths, do the same things, make the same jokes, expect Sif to say the same lines. They keep referencing a Sif we do not see, with jokes we never see him make and heroic personality he never shows - they reference a Sif who is dead - and Sif can't handle that, so he kills them too.
They become only an exercise in tedious frustration. Sif button mashes through their dialogue, Sif mindlessly clicks the same dialogue options, Sif skips through the tutorial, Sif blows through the puzzles. Sif turns their world into a video game. Sif is playing a generic RPG. Sif forgets their names. They are no longer people with in-jokes, histories, backgrounds, adventures. They're the mage, the warrior, the researcher, and...some random kid.
I did not understand the Kid's presence at first. I had no idea what they contributed to the game. They didn't do anything. As a party member in a video game, they're a bit useless. Why is the Kid there?
Because Sif's life isn't a video game. Because the kid isn't 'the kid'. They're Bonnie. Bonnie, who the party loves. Why is Bonnie there? Because they love them. There is no room for Bonnie in the boring RPG that Sif is playing. And then you realize that Sif is wrong, and that they've lost something extremely important, and that they'll never escape without it.
Watching the prologue before watching ISAT gave ISAT the most unique air of dread and horror, because you crack open ISAT and you see the person Sif used to be. You realize that Sif used to be a person. Sif used to be the person who made jokes, who gave real smiles, who interacted with the world as if they are a part of it. And you know you are sitting down to watch Sif lose everything that made them a person, to lose everything that made them a member of this world, and turn them into a character in a video game who doesn't understand the point of Bonnie at all.
At the climax of the game, when the others realize that something is deeply wrong and that Sif physically cannot tell them, they realize that there is nothing they can do. So Bonnie declares snacktime. And for the first time they have snacktime.
What is snacktime? Classic JRPGs don't have snacktime. There's literally no point to a snacktime - not in a video game, and not in Sif's terrible life. It's not fixing this, because nothing can fix this. But Bonnie gives Sif a cookie and Sif eats it.
It's meaningless. It's a cutscene. It didn't save Sif and it didn't change a thing. It will make no difference in the end.
But it did make the difference. It made all of the difference in the world. Bonnie is a character who you really don't understand the point of before you realize that Bonnie was the entire point.
ISAT is about comfort media. Why do we play the same video games over and over again? Why do we avoid watching the finale of our favorite shows? What is truly comforting: a story with no conflict, or a story where you always know what is about to happen? Do you want to live in a scary, uncontrollable world, or do you want to play Stardew Valley? Do you want a person or a character?
When I beat Earthbound for the first time (and if you don't know, the prologue/ISAT battle system is just Mother) and watched the ending cutscene where the characters part ways and say goodbye...I felt a little bit sad. I wanted them to be together forever. But that's something only characters could ever be.
#these aren't deep or unique thoughts they're just the specific aspect of ISAT that made it one of the most interesting gaming experiences#i actually like the prologue much more than ISAT for just this reason#its honestly a video game art piece that's created to give the player a very specific experience#that makes them an aspect of the narrative that is told#it's. incredible.#in stars and time#start again start again start again#start again: a prologue#isat#god and there is so so so so much more to say here#what a rich and complex and fascinating game that made me cry like a baby#i dont even kin sif. we arent similar at all.#i cant imagine how devastating this game would have been if i did#but I do have a deep relationship with escapsim#and i write about it a lot#and video games about being video games are wonderful#as are stories about being stories#and why we consume stories. how we use them. how they save us and hurt us.#never played a video game that used its medium so well#i bet undertales also pretty good at that but this is more so i think#stories about stories have to be about why we love stories#and im not an artsy person and i roll my eyes a bit when people talk about the spiritual neccesity of art#i think people need stories because the world is sad and hard and boring and we want to think about something else for a while.#some people need to be anywhere but here#and sometimes if you're Lil Depressed-Ass Snufkin that looks like being here forever#baby cringe-ass snufkin big hat idiot

sexiest and funniest thing roy harper ever did was look at dick grayson and go i could fix him
#read outsiders 2003. 🔫.#i think one of my fav things about roydick as a ship is the contrast btwn what roy like says and believes about dick vs his actions and how#he behaves with him#like its quite common for ppl in dicks life to put him on a pedestal right and he's used to it and is terrified of letting them down#but Roy who joined the og teen titans team as a full member late never like... looked to dick As A Leader the exact way the others did and+#he also didnt join the ntt until. i haven't actually reread most of ntt/new titans yet but to my recollection he's there for a hot minute+#before him and dick have their big blowout fight and he replaces dick as leader so its like#him and dick have a very unique relationship among the titans AND ALL THIS JUST TO SAY#like if you are not dick. and you ask roy how he feels about dick#the word 'perfect' is pretty likely to come up. and this is specifically the guy who is almost constantly challenging dick at every turn#aand fucking. god#roy 'everyone forgets that icarus also flew' harper#fucking setting up the entire outsiders team bc dick was so deep in that depression pit. explicitly that was For Him. that was why he did i#because he saw how much he was struggling. and then the way dick sees the same and tries clumsily but SUCCESSFULLY to return that care#ach. i love them. mfeo. b#dc#text#roydick

Lord of the Empty Isles
sci-fi/fantasy
set on a supposedly utopian planet recovering from a climate crisis, where bonds between people are able to be seen and manipulated (by some people)
follows a young man whose brother was cursed and killed by an infamous outlaw 5 years ago, and he’s finally able to curse him back - but it rebounds, as he’s somehow fatebound to the outlaw
to find a cure and save them both they have to team up, and he quickly finds out that the resources the outlaw is stealing go to the thousands of people neglected on prison planets, and he has to go against what he thought was right to help them
no romance, aroace MC, focus on platonic relationships
arc from netgalley, out june 6
#Lord of the Empty Isles#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#I enjoyed this quite a bit! But I think it could have gone a bit further in places.#It has some interesting concepts and a great cast of characters and yay no romance#I do have a lot of thoughts and little critiques...#it's p obvious where the plot is going and what's going to happen#There’s clearly a lot gone into developing this bond system but to be honest I still don’t entirely get it?#It seems to emphasise that the bonds just reflect connections between people rather than predetermine anything; but also the plot kind of#hinges on Remy and Idrian having a predetermined bond? There are a lot of explanations of intricacies but a lot of it didn’t sink in idk#It’s promoted as QP but to me it reads as a general platonic relationship. I generally expect a depiction of a QPR to have like..#some form of acknowledgement/depiction of the form of their relationship being a particular (undefinable?) kind#with some specific level of commitment? I’m being picky maybe they mean queerplatonic themes/vibes rather than saying it’s a qpr#specifically. the centred platonic relationship is good! it doesn't seem like a qpr to me; at most what could one day be that#also things are solved quite quickly and easily in the end - both the curse and the downfall of the bad guy.#I feared it would go down the route of blaming things on the person in charge rather than emphasising systemic issues which it kinda does….#It’s impossible to ignore right now just how deeply people are willing to believe dehumanising propaganda - and how 'telling the truth'#and exposing the person in power as bad doesn’t actually do anything so that happening here made me go…… oh okay. well.#there is room for a sequel that maybe will explore this tho. idk#complaints aside - I do recommend this! It was fun and pretty unique.#aroace books#no romance

the term “triangles” is so good.
like. i LOVE a throuple, but sometimes a triangular dynamic isn’t necessarily romantic, or equally romantic on all sides, but is still very much a Collective Relationship and worth discussing as one.
so it’s a Triangle, to me.
#pretty much all the triangles i can think off off the top of my head HAVE romantic elements (or the potential for them at least)#but the Point isn’t necessarily (or even usually) that they’re all together romantically#the Point is that all three of them have unique dynamics with each of the others#that contribute to the greater Relationship between all three of them#three characters just going ‘we’re in love :)’ is fine and great#but i am personally partial to relationships where at LEAST two of them want to kill each other#it Adds To It

speaking of tawnypelt its so funny when people go “mothpool is bad because people reduce mothwings character to just this fanon relationship! why not focus on her relationship with her thunderclan siblings!!!”
like. girl WHAT relationship?
#brambleclaw doesnt give a fuck about her bc shes Girl#tawnypelt just doesnt interact w the riverclan siblings at all in any meaningful capacitiy#and does anyone like Actually ignore the abusive dynamic between hawkfrost and mothwing? besides stans who think he did nothing wrong?#iirc thats actually a good chunk of mothwing's content#ntm the books focus on her relationship w her apprentices more than her relationship with leafpool#im pretty sure she doesnt really even interact w her in any meaningful way after tnp#shes not even all that remarkable as a tigerstar kit bc usually shes just conflated with hawk in that regard#and after that ppl are just butthurt that shes an atheist#like. ntm ppl who do focus on mothpool elaborate on her not believing in starclan in context of their relationship#like how moth decides to put her faith in starclan if only because of leafpool#or the ''i may not believe starclan but i believe YOU leafpool'' line#like. honestly just say ur lesbophobic sldkfjsdlfd#no one besides a handful of people are ''reducing her character to a ship''#and the ones that are are just the normal ilk of shippers who do that with EVERY ship#or hell when canon itself reduces a character to just ''yay i have a love interest uwaaaa''#its. really not that bad bc mothwing herself is an underutilized character theres not much TO ignore#and the unique stuff about her actually is elaborated on in these mothpool rewrites#in a similar vein wow was it hilarious to see people claim mothpool was toxic and bad while shipping bramblesquirrel#echoed voice

yall remember that post thats like "2012 avengers fandom wanted so badly for the team to be friends and theyre barely even coworkers." that <- flaw right there is exactly what i think makes xmen media so good. even when its bad. cause at least they all live in a big house together and hang out and have interesting interpersonal dynamics and shit. like we always wanted <3
#xmen#i just watched xmen 97 and im on a kick#everyones relationship to each other is so unique and complicated!#uve got the big stuff like charles and eriks relationship and the whole logan/jean/scott dynamic#but also gambit and rogues whole thing! rogue being sorta siblings with kurt! storm and jean consider eachother sisters!#logan is sort of a parental figure to jubilee! scott has a deep respect for xavier as a teacher and father figure!#the story really shines when these dynamics are pulled into focus#and its true of some of the better marvel movies too! look at winter soldier!#i hope this doesnt read like “babys first realization that character-driven stories are good” but man#xmen 97 is the first time i legitimately enjoyed a thing marvel has made in like. years#and i watched it pretty soon after i watched deadpool 3 which i didnt care for so. the bar was low but man they cleared it.

Friend groupchat has been doing TOH finale analysis all afternoon and @thesixthstar made the comment "Luz is the Collector's Azura" and I am going to be rotating that one in my mind for. A long time. Forever maybe.
#the way the collector was used to really dig into/emphasize some of the most important parts of both luz and king's arcs#simultaneously but also uniquely#and didn't as specifically dig into eda's but still did a little because it emphasized her connection to the latter two so well#like the fact that they all walked through their relationship as a story and can share that story with someone else now#very very interesting use of a pretty out-there character concept; i was not sold on them at the end of s2 but like i get it now#(they also made for such an interesting contrast to belos -- someone who caused harm on accident instead of on purpose)#(and thus helped with fleshing out that theme of like. what really is morality/accountability for causing harm)#(which MAN i have a lot of feelings about the episode digging into that with luz given my own brain lately)#the finale was just. such an episode#anyways this post is mostly me doing the will smith hands at sharon's point because she is SO right#toh spoilers#f: us weirdos have to stick together

no halloween art this year sorry! hopefully sanada brothers vell song redraws and a new vd later will be enough...
+ an alternate version with the honey bc. b-bad honey hunt. don't worry about the silhouettes
#we got cowgirl eiji sanada before linagram finale. amazing#no but seigi no libra fits him so well it's so. head in hands#the lyrics describe his murder (and his views in general) so well especially near the end...#but it also can describe his relationship with kei bc as he said kei has always been weird#but he wasn't always abusive and only became like that after a particular event...#“what event” i look away and sigh and go “they don't know that kei had a friend who-” and a car hits me#also. im pretty sure bad honey hunt and seigi no libra characters are the same girl.#like the piercings the chess piece the hair color... yeah i think its the same girl#though maybe it's common knowledge. i haven't seen anyone point it outjdkdkks#i will never try to draw/render honey ever again. tf is this it looked like noodles before rendering AHAGHDHJAJSA#also im going to be honest. i do like song redraws but i don't like to make them exactly the same as original#i like to make them unique and different and more. me-core :)#and i like to add silly little details like again the silhouettes behind kei (don't worry about them)#and not counting the scale from the original mv there is also Something behind eiji. or someone#🗡️guard 001: sanada eiji 🗡️#🍓prisoner 005: sanada kei 🍓#also i still hate drawing hands.

It's crazy how I havent posted in months when I used to use this site daily. I've been pretty bad but doing the best I can. I had so much happen in the last few months and I'm trying to find my footing. I'm back in the city, which I've missed. Ttrpgs are keeping me mentally afloat and I'm obsessing over my characters, having ocs with friends is wonderful. Trying to work on a big project also, but I think it will be slow going. I'm trying to respark joy in the things I used to do.
#as it turns out my last relationship was pretty bad and i have had a lot help identifying that from multiple povs#ive had a lot of support from people who were able to see and experience the things first hand which is unique and helpful#so im recovering from that. but my current situation is not ideal. honestly worse in a lot of ways.#im struggling but really trying my best but it feels like everything is always working against me#i continue to try despite the only thing ive ever done is fail lmao 👍#i need to figure out at the bare minimum how to start drawing again. because idk how to work around the skill regression.#but ive still been having fun drawing my ttrpg characters and stuff ^^#oh and ive been learning how to write short stories these past few months which has been a fun creative outlet !

2024 reads / storygraph
Earthflown
character driven scifi romance / crime mystery
set in a future London with some cyberpunk vibes where some people have magical aptitudes
follows a healer who saves the life of an heiress (to a wealthy pharmaceutical corporation that controls London’s water supply) when she’s brought into hospital with a gunshot wound
and the heiress’ twin, who invites the healer out for dinner in gratitude, and they begin dating, while both dealing with the mental pressure of their aptitudes
while a journalist (friends with the healer) investigates a murder that’s possibly tied to the corporation
#earthflown#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#hm. There was some aspects of this I really liked but mostly it was all over the place.#just click on the storygraph link above to find my full thoughts tbh lol#tldr: some great characters/relationships very unique. but also the worldbuilding/plot raises so many questions for me i needed more detail#i only care about rich people who are all associated with this evil corporation so much#cool illustrations but dare I say I didn;t need all of them#supposed ace-ness that some reviewers say is there pretty clearly is explained as being something else? but also vague. confused about that#but also it is quite unique and I feel like I will be thinking about it a lot!

#so far in my sporadic picking away at various manga series i feel i have the weirdest reader relationships with JJBA and Attack on Titan#when reading JJBA i am not really that invested in the characters or even whats happening to them and yet i still never decide to dnf it#and i dont even know what it is that keeps me reading except that its just very unique i suppose?#such an odd combo of different things that somehow manages to eventually have its own sorta cohesive logic and charm#also the art is just fun. its ornate and goofy and macho and flamboyant and gross#but as soon as i put it down i stop thinking about it too#and dont feel like picking it up again for at least several more days#with attack on titan i found the art style mostly really bad at first ngl#it reminded me of awkward drawings a high schooler would make like the inconsistentness#of like there are good action poses here but the people also look weird ugly bland and stiff and the backgrounds are often so empty#idk i was feeling pretty blah about it but something about how starkly straight-forward the story is was interesting to me#where its literally exactly what you heard its just#theres a bunch of humanoid giants attacking our city#and we have to stop them. that's it#and also the awkwardness of the art style i find works extremely well when it comes to the titans#like they are genuinely creepy to me. and they do actually feel massive the way theyre drawn. and the mystery around them interests me too#anyways im like 60% through part 1 of jojo(also read most of part 4 a few years ago) and only on vol 3 of AoT#but yeah those are the 2 series i have the most mixed feelings about so far#wouldnt say i love or hate either of them but still also continue to want to find out more#13readsmanga#p

out of the big 4 het/canon fairy tail pairings jerza is by Far the worst imo like. he needs to leave her alone i'm so serious and the fact that mashima wrote in a 7 year age gap for no reason is Not helping... erzas ass is NINETEEN the first time jellal makes an open pass at her i don't care that they used to be the same age it is fucking weird. gruvia is a close second though because while yes we objectify men here sir and i live to serve women juvia's creepiness is really just too much like at a certain point it starts to feel really gross and the fact that gray seems to fall for her by the end of the anime/manga just reeks of coercion. not even bringing up how genuinely awful juvia's character writing is she gets like 5 minutes of being interesting before getting instantly reduced to a creepy stan who completely revolves around gray and has less depth than the average bossfight of the week. i guess its equality that erza and mirajane are some of the best characters in this story (which is admittedly a low bar considering half of their personality is being subjected to the most voyeuristic shots possible) so mashima had to balance it out by making juvia one of the worst
#the other two pairings nalu and gajevy are honestly fine. i'm more pilled on gratsu and lucana or luli but gajevy is actually a decently#sweet redemption relationship if you forget that gajeel was genuinely the worst person alive in his villain arc before mashima decided to#fast track him to the most likable character in the show.#on top of that while gajeel and levy become a Unit pretty fast after tenrou island they do still have like#unique personalities and things about them that help them stand apart from the other. unlike juvia with gray.#nalu might not be my pairing of choice for either natsu or lucy or even my favorite big 4 pairing but it is pretty good. i really don't hav#any notes they have their own personalities and have chemistry. i think they're sweet together. they work fine.#the moral of the story is don't read or watch fairy tail it's just shittier one piece#tender age of 11 and it gave me incurable brain fungus and now i live in my wonderful little made up world where everyone in fairy tail is#gay and trans and the women aren't treated like meat half the time. this is my trash of choice and my defining character sin dont be like m#but if you're that curious read the manga the anime is insanely drawn out#and the animation is aaaawful#the only reason im watching it is as background noise for when i work#im gonna tag this as#fairy tail#for people who want to blacklist#in the future
