Zantanna’s voice had that cadence to it. Faintly strangled. Forcibly calm. Her rising blood pressure and rapidly approaching limit for his special brand of excitement evident in every single letter of his name.

Felt like old times.

“Z.” He said, smoke curling out of his mouth and billowing towards the dreary grey sky above. The one nice thing about Gotham, it had the same gloomy dark ambience of ol’ London town. “Long time no see. How’s show biz been treating you?”

He saw the faintest of twitches at the corner of her eye. Could almost hear her counting to ten in her head. He smiled at her winningly, leaning back against the damp bricks of the alleyway as he waited. More smoke drifted upward from beside him in time with a bored sigh. Patience was running out on all sides it seemed.

“That’s a child.”

“Sharp as ever.” He said, taking another drag. He nudged the child in question beside him gently with his elbow, glancing down with a sly grin. “See this is why the Justice League pay her the big bucks. Nothing gets past our Zantanna Zatara.”

He got a cloud of smoke blown directly in his face for that, little shit.

“John.”

“Z.”

“Why do you have a child? Why is the child smoking?”

“Long story.” He said with a wave of his hand.

“I learned it from watching him.” The kid said, with the same cadence as that old American commercial. All dramatic and overwrought emotion. The gremlin swooned against John's side in an imitation of collapse, hand holding the lit bifter coming up to their forhead to really sell the melodrama. He nudged his ghostly companion off, grinning at Zantanna’s slipping patience as he did.

“Don’t worry about it. Kid's fine.”

“A child wandering around with you in a dark ally in Gotham smoking cigarettes is fine?”

“I mean, I’m already dead. And short. It’s not like smoking is gonna be able to do any worse to me.”

I love the difference in Katniss and Peeta asking for love. Peeta is in full "You don't have to, it's ok!!! Please don't even make eye contact with me, no pressure!!" Mode during 'The Hunger Games' meanwhile Katniss for the rest of the series is just like this fucking goblin crawling out of the pits of hell like "No pressure, but I will kill myself if you don't breathe in my direction"

the thing about emu is that her life is super fucking wild and absurd shit is always just happening to her but because she’s so used to it and so full of whimsy she never acknowledges it. And so fans never acknowledge it either. Emu canonically has priceless paintings just hanging around in her house (in universe equivalent of fucking monet’s water lilies and van gough’s sunflowers iirc) and her family is Super Mega Owns A Theme Park And Airline rich and she has the ability to climb everywhere. She has personal body guards that have to wear goofy mascot costumes but are always prepared to die for her despite her not being in danger. Truly taking after her grandpa. Strange fucking creature. To me, children of Zeus are natural strategists in the same way children of Athena are. But the difference is that Zeus and his kids have multiple plans and contingencies if a plan fails at a certain point and needs to shift gears. So like they employ Plan A and get all the way to stage four of the plan when suddenly there's a deviation from expectations for whatever reason. So they shift gears from Plan A1 to Plan A2, which accounted for this deviation and continue on.

Athena and her kids, however, come up with one solid, somewhat broader plan and refuse to deviate from it at all unless there is literally no other choice, in which case they will improvise quickly and efficiently to accomodate the change and get back on track to the original plan.

Thinking about the angst in izuku asking gran while visiting, if nana had loved all might the same way he loved her as his mother, even though she had a biological son.

Thinking about the crack with big brother izuku trying to push the all might fanatic agenda onto his little sister bc in this household we love all might, only for her to ask "who" bc she only knows toshi in his small form, which leads to an exasperated "dad! dad is all might" from izuku

Also wait I'm dying at that last part because the "Dad is All Might" agenda reminds me of radiotalk show with Daiki and Miyake where Miyake talks about how his own kid heard him do the "I AM HERE!" and is like "nah sounds different."

Like imagine Little Sister finally giving in to Izuku's hero propaganda and she also absolutely knows Izuku is Pro Hero Deku!! And that he was inspired by All Might! And while All Might's debut and fights aren't quite as cool or good as Deku he's still very cool!

And Toshinori is so touched and while it's been a few years he muscles up for a moment and gives his best "I AM HERE!" and she's just "mmmm I mean nice try dad but All Might's more muscular and his voice is a way deeper and also his hair is way taller."

Inko has to console him for the rest of the day as he sits in the corner sulking. Izuku as the die hard #1 All Might stan forever and also amazing teacher he is sets out to making a powerpoint and full breakdown as to "Why Dad IS in fact Actually the Hero All Might who is WAY better than Deku and is still the greatest hero in the world"

But UGH you have given me even MORE brain worms. Like: Toshi picking up both his kids despite his age. Izuku flustering that he's too big for this and "Dad you're gonna hurt yourself!" while Little Sis squeals from atop Toshi's shoulders. Gran being the one to call Toshi in the middle of the night and being like "You're first born visited me today. I'm too old to clean after your messes, boy. Give him a hug, buy him some hero merch, and give him so damn attention!!!" And when Gran hangs up Toshi is left reeling because what? Hadn't Izuku been the one putting some distance between them? He'd been the one to tell Toshi he was busy, and that he didn't have to wait up, and that it was fine because him and Inko probably had their hands full with the new ba- oh goddamnit he's screwed up hasn't he?
