every time i go through the end of ew and see the cs with zenos in sharlayan i have to stop and imagine his conversation with that customs lady at the docks when she asked what his job was and he would have gone off on one of his typical monologues about living for 'the hunt, the THRIIIIIIIIILL of bahttle the raw pulsing ecstacy of being locked together in combat, teeth at each other's throats, giving in to the huungaahh that can never be sated' etc etc and she would have been like uh huh so you're unemployed hmmm i see

Doctor who at its best is like the doctor is just some guy who has a very silly time with his friends OR the doctor is just some guy who is floored by the either the beauty or terror of existence, sometimes both at the same time. Comparing Messmer and Godwyn's relationship to their mother is so very tasty.

We don't know too much about Godwyn's life besides the dragon war and his death, but we do know that Marika was grief-stricken when he died. She broke the Elden Ring - the concept of the universe. I'm not going to speculate, what kind of a mother Marika was to Godwyn, but breaking the very definition of the world does tell us that Godwyn was loved.

Whereas, what Marika did to Messmer was order him to commit a genocide for her, and then abandon him to the Land of Shadow. And Messmer was loyal to his mother until the very end, murdering hornsent and others absent of the blessing of grace wherever he went, taking all of the blame himself.

The statue behind Messmer's throne in his boss room depicts a mother, his mother, Marika, holding an infant. As Messmer enters his second phase, he turns to the statue, the only representation of his mother he has left, to ask for her forgiveness for what he's about to do. For becoming one of the graceless creatures he swore to eradicate.

Although, when Messmer was born, Marika graced him with another chance at being blessed by the Erdtree by giving him his eye, and sealing the serpent inside of him away.

Regardless, Marika was willing to shatter the entire world around her for Godwyn, while Messmer was just a tool to be used and then discarded for the crusade she desired.

It's interesting to think that Marika might have seen a lot of herself in Godwyn. Both being radiant beings of light, with their long golden hair flowing as they lived, the people around them worshiping their every movement.

Marika is often seen as a selfish figure, and in that case, it's pretty straightforward to imagine she had an easier time being a mother to Godwyn than Messmer. Messmer could have reminded Marika of Radagon, her literal other half.

Does the way Marika treated Godwyn and Messmer reflect on how she felt about herself, all sides included?

Of course, the situation is not this clear-cut, and we can't know Marika's true intentions and everything about the lives of Godwyn and Messmer. It's still very interesting to think about.

Duke such a talker and its one of my favorite things about him, his narration is long winded and uses so much philosophical language, his verbal speech isn't as bad as other notorious talkers (Dick, Jason, and Steph come to mind) but he is Still talkin

I’m honestly surprised at myself for not noticing/thinking about how Stolas was very likely triggered by Blitzø stomping after him and screaming/insulting him because he dealt with it so much from Stella. As someone who has *been* in an abusive relationship, it takes so long to get out of that fight or flight mindset where you just shut down the second someone starts yelling (at least in my case). It’s been like 8 years now and I still flinch at loud voices even if they’re not directed at me.

I really understand the fics that say Garak never lies to himself even if there's no way that's true bc it is SO HARD to write a character when you have to consider the 87 layers of what they're actually feeling, what they think they're feeling, what they're trying to convince themself they're feeling, what they're trying to convince everyone else they're feeling, what they're willing to admit they're feeling, and what lie about what they're feeling is actually going to come out if their mouth.

Shanks saying all this? Right before he knows he’s about to steal something very important from a navy ship and would probably need to lie low for years. His way of begging Mihawk to come with him? Insane fucking cut my heart out.

Shanks: Sail with me?

Mihawk: …..What?

Shanks: Sail with me.

Mihawk:….(sigh) Shanks can we not-

Shanks: no no its no use Mihawk , we gotta have it out I have loved you ever since I’ve known you Mihawk I couldn’t help it, and and I tried to show you and you wouldn’t let me and I must make you hear me now and give me an answer because I cannot go on like this any longer, I gave up rum I gave up everything you didn’t like I’m happy I did it’s fine and I waited and I never complained because I, you know I figured you’d love me Mihawk and I realised im not half good enough and im not this great man and I-

Mihawk: Shanks! No.

And Shanks would keep pushing because to a young shanks whose only ever had crew as family and who never really got over his abandonment issues; Joining the crew is saying you’ll stay and staying means you love him enough to not leave him. And Shanks can’t deal with anyone else leaving him.

But of course all this does is push Mihawk away. They leave Shanks to rob a marine ship and Mihawk to leave a trail of bodies in his wake. And the next time they see each other Shanks has lost an arm and Mihawk’s entire world came crashing down.

just thinking about wei wuxian and his continuous encounters with grief and loss. they’re quite literally never-ending for him, until the point that there was nothing left to be taken away from him–including his life.

he lost his parents at a young age. he lost his entire family (the lotus pier disciples and other members), his “foster parents”, his golden core, his home, his martial sister, his martial brother. he lost wen qing and wen ning and for a time, he even lost lan wangji. for most of the backstory duration, wei wuxian is never not mourning some kind of loss–every step of the way, he loses someone or something and has to come to terms with it in adverse conditions more often than not. hell, after reincarnation, he even lost his original body!

it’s like... these things are horrifying. jc could never overcome his negative feelings over yanli’s death (even in using it as justification of undue hate). huaisang’s whole revenge plan was borne firstly from grief. wangji was stuck with his mourning for 13 years. jin ling also felt the grief of losing his parents without ever getting to know them. and then there’s wei wuxian, whose losses are profoundly varied and at the end of the story, save for lan wangji & a’yuan–most of the people he once knew are dead or beyond reconciliation and that is a breathtaking realisation. because the grief these losses bring is not easy to brush aside or process. it’s painful and never-ending and it sticks with you forever. and yet when you think about wei wuxian, you never picture him with a dark cloud overhead, a reminder of his grief. instead you imagine him with a sly or playful smile on, trying to enjoy his life despite everything. it’s the way wei wuxian has never let his losses define him. it’s the way that in his first life, it was about losing the people he loved and in his second, it was about finding and keeping the people he loved.

it’s the way wei wuxian doesn’t guard his heart with barbwire after his impossibly painful losses but he opens it wider still, never giving up on himself and his ability to form meaningful connections with others.
