Backstory: As a human he was rather well known, his names was Ciri Princin (pronounced: seer-e, Prince-In), he was a performer/magician. Often hired for birthdays or special events. One day he was reached out to by C&A. They had heard the buzz around Ciri's name and were hosting an opening event for their new headsets. C&A wanted him to test it out in front of their "guests and clients", show how it worked and introduce it to them, all of that, hype it up! after thinking it over he gladly accepted. when the night came he was buzzing, so excited and honored to be able to play such an important role, C&A promised to pay well too. When he got up onto stage and placed the headset on after a lengthy introduction to the headset and himself, it was lights out. one thing he didnt know or get to figure out for himself, was that the "audience" he was infront of, was just C&A staff to convince and trick Ciri into a false sense of security.

The dilligent Magician was a bit lost in the new kingdom she entered... given she didn’t know how she could enter the main part of the city and guards stopped her, she decided to search for a place to stay in the underground parts of it... it was an uneasy feeling to walk through the streets... Shady people, thieves, Mercenaries, she felt a bit off among the folk and hoped people would in her hood just not pay attention to her...

Intuition led her to a somewhat extravagant building that stuck out like a sore thumb among the old and rampant building as she hesitantly made her way to the door she found two mercenaries talking.

“Did you know how much he charges for information... although it is worth the prize, I can’t help but feel he has much deeper ties... as if he had the nobles under his thumb.”

“Its impressive really, for him to stay here and be neutral to kingdom and enemy alike... only making profit from playing most rich people here.”

Her eyes were curious and she did need a ticket to get to the upper city, might as well start here... getting in the building however the atmosphere made her nervous again. Men and Females alike in provocative clothing, Drinks and other Beverages sold over the table, many threatening looking people sitting down the seats, she gulped a little at the sight... Eventually she sat down to look at the bartender, long pink hair and an odd look, those wings on his back looked unusual and although he wore a skimpy dress too she could see it was man speaking to her.

“My what pretty green eyes, I haven’t seen you around here, you seem a little too innocent for this place, maiden.”

“I am old enough if that is what you ask me, I just heard there was an informant here and I wanted to talk to him.”

She grew worried as the Bartender continued to eye her, untill she saw him smile and call someone over.

“Can you take over for me, I have to show this beautifull lady to the Boss, I am sure he would love to meet her.”

The other worker nodded and soon she got taken to the back rooms... just to grow more flustered. She passed rooms where many were making out or going further, as another curious worker joined them both. 

“My Name is Lustre and who is walking beside you is Maya, technically we both are more of the higher rank workers here... what is your name young Lady?”

To be polite she took off her hood, feeling a little more clam after hearing his voice and looking at them both.

“I am Carol, wandering Magician with a certain goal, hence I travel from Kingdom to kingdom.”

Lustre chuckled as Maya also eyed her a little and smiled. Both stopped in front of a room and pushed away the curtains.

“If you wanna meet the boss you have to dress appropriately. You will get your clothing back but, he isn’t keen on simple magicians clothings. Also you don’t have an audience scheduled with him so this is the only way I can sneak you in.”

She grumbled a little looking how much skin this would show but then sighed and got dressed behind the curtains... for her goal it was fine to endure this for a little while... and as she came out both of the guys were gushing at her looks as she was redfaced...

“W-will you take me to him now?”

“Of course.”

“So pwetty...”

She wasn’t used to all this attention but she kept her head up as they headed to the last chamber in the back, her heart beating fast wondering who this so called boss might be... and as she entered the room, she was greeted by wealth, the smell of cooked meat, and a very tall man sitting on something similar like a throne... his shirtlessness made her even more nervous as she fumbled with her fingers before taking a deep breath and wanting the speak up but Lustre was quicker. He and Maya both leaned to his side and smiled.

“You two really brought me someone beautifull today... whats the occasion?”

“Milady here wanting to ask you something herself so we let her in... we made sure she carries no weapons before thanks to the outfit too.”

Now things made more sense, so that is why she had to drop her belongings in the other room and had to wear this outfit, they were clever and cunning. Maya got some pets from the man as he waved her over.

“The name is Jesh, owner of this Local and the informant of this kingdom... how about you come closer and tell me what you need.”

She stepped forward but he didn’t speak but instead led her to come closer and closer untill he patted his lap invitingly...

“Y-you don’t expect me to-”

“Well how else will we stand on equal terms if you don’t agree to mine.”

Great its one of those guys... trying to tease and get you into things. She still reluctantly agreed sitting down on his lap but in general looking nervous, he eyed her like a snack to eat but she didn’t get distracted and just told him clear what she wanted.

“I want to know a way how to get into the upper city, my goal is to teach the kingdom healing magic so diseases can be stopped and things get much easier for the people... hence I study magic and teach wherever I can.”

“And you get yourself in danger like this for that goal?”

“O-of course I do... it is of utmost importance that I do it or else... more people will suffer cause of this. “

He looked at her curious. The most people approaching him had selfish goals, greed, temptation, revenge... but here he saw a woman with only intentions of saving people and making the world a better one... he slightly began laughing.

“W-what are you laughing about?”

“You know... I really like you, pretty girl. Whats your name?”

“Carol... “

He took her chin in his hand and smirked...

“Then lets make a deal... I will let you stay the night here, free of charge and in the morning I guide you to the upper levels... however in return you will spend the night in my personal chambers and bring me something Valuable from the big city.”

“Y-you can’t mean spend the night l-”

“No, I won’t force you into things, but I want to get to know you... “

She wasn’t sure if she could trust his words at all but thinking about it and knowing she still  had her magic at hand she nodded.

“One night at your chambers and I bring you what you desire from the upper levels... and in return you get me there. I will agree to these terms if you keep them.... but I won’t be getting close to you during staying in your chambers, alright.”

“Only as far as you want to go, beautiful. “

His smirk made her blush again as she stood up from his lap...

“Lustre, Maya, get her back her belongings, let her dress up back in her clothes and then lead her to the dining room. I won’t be taking audiences for today, for tonight we will calm down and rest a little.”

“Yes Boss.”

The two both gave Carol a smile as she followed behind them, her heart still raced quick and she didn’t know what to think.... but for now she had to deal with what was coming...

As the dinner was concluded she as agreed before followed Jesh into his chambers and let her belongings rest on the table nearby, taking her hat off and hanging her coat over the chair as she saw him undress before her which made her nervous.

”D-didn’t I tell you-”

”Relax... I just need to get out of this uncomfy clothes into something more appropriate... if you don’t wanna stare you can turn around but... I don’t mind if you wanna stare.”

She nodded and turned to the wall untill he said he was finished, it still made her nervous... at least she didn’t need to undress before him cause she had most of her sleeping wear under her clothing... as she was done she layed down in bed next to him...

”Say would you tell me a little of the other kingdoms?”

“I guess so you have more information to use?”

“Not really... I am curious about you and... I never been outside of the kingdom.”

She turned to him just to see him smirk.

“Why me? I am not remarkable in the slightest.”

“There isn’t every day where such a beautifull Lady like you swings by my place, might as well use it.”

Her face turned bright red as she hid it behind the blanket...

“Your flattery will get you knowwhere but... I can share a little about myself... at least what I want to share...”

They talked for the night untill eventually she just passed out.... still the next morning she felt herself being asleep in his arms and panicking cause of it... at least the night was over.

Now, this is a VERY interesting subject for someone who loves the character AND the game! 🤩

I will attempt to make an informed choice based on what we know about Constantine and how well the DnD classes mechanically works with him. (Be aware that this is my personal opinion based on the Hellblazer comics and other iterations of the character, and I'm using DnD 5e when looking at the classes).

BARD🎸 It's fun to associate John with this class thanks to his past as a member of the band Mucous Membrane, and bards are notorious in DnD for being chaotic or unconventional casters, which fits John's character. I would however not chose this class for him because despite his past, John doesn't actually USE music (or anything adjacent to it) in his magic.

WARLOCK😈 I see that this opinion is popular, and I can see why! First off, the word "Warlock" has canonically been used to describe John (especially in DC's Legends of Tomorrow). And in Dungeons & Dragons it's common for warlocks to make dubious deals with Demons or Devils, which our lovable Johnny con-job is famous for. That being said, a warlock's very definition is that you get your magic by making a pact with a Patreon. John's magic doesn't come from an otherworldly entity. He has magic with or without someone else’s influence, which is by definition NOT possible for a warlock in DnD.

SORCERER🔮 Okay, NOW it's getting trickier! A sorcerer in DnD is a caster that is born with innate magical capabilities (like from a bloodline) and is naturally gifted in the field of witchcraft. This fits Constantine pretty well, considering that the comics specifically mentions that he is a descendant of the Laughing Magician bloodline (which were magic-users that was said to outwit gods and devils alike). DnD Sorcerers also have a feature called "sorcery points", which allow them to use spells in a different way than intended, such as increasing the range, doubling its strength or even avoid using spell components. This is consistent with John's ability to use magic in unexpected ways, like not using the exact requirements in a spell or making a spell act differently than it was meant. This class is not a perfect fit, but definitely a strong one!

WIZARD📚 This class is associated with casters that learn magic by studying the craft extensively and utilizes spell books to perform various arcane wonders. And the most consistent thing with John Constantine's magic is that he studies it. Also, he is repeatedly described as someone who "rather rely on his wits than magic", and wizards' spellcasting modifier happens to be intelligence. He reads ancient texts, he copies runes and spell circles, he is an occult nerd that knows so much about the esoteric laws that he can break them if it suits him. A sorcerer is stuck with using a limited number of spells, while a wizard has a truckload that they can switch out every morning depending on the situation. Which makes sense for John when you think about all the super situational magical solutions he can dish out if given enough time and preparation. Top him off with a few cantrips that he can cast at will (like Produce Flame and Friends) and we have a pretty believable John Constantine 5th edition.

To summarize; I believe the most accurate categorization of John Constantine's magic would be an unholy multiclass between wizard and sorcerer, with maybe a quick dip in warlock to represent a fleeting bond with an infernal Patreon. But for this poll, I would pick wizard because it best highlights the character's relationship with magic and how we see him use it.

Some friends and I had a whole "argument" about what type of D&D style spellcaster John Constantine would be.

I personally said Warlock because the first story I read was Dangerous Habits, but my friends made excellent points for him being a Bard (his charisma and time as the frontman for Mucous Membrane), a Sorcerer (his natural magical talent) and Wizard (his vast studies).

I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks.
