A thing i want to add to some of the really good c!Quackity meta recently: one of the things that makes him nuanced and at times sympathetic despite his Obvious Villainy (propensity for violence, selfish ambition, mania, tendency to develop one-sided obsessions, and the chronic insecurity that feeds into all these behaviors) is that, at least in my view, he’s clearly enamored with the idea of the good person he could be if he was willing to put in the work to be that guy.

What is the c!Slime training montage, if not a monument to the version of himself Q wants to be remembered as? The version of himself he presents to characters like Slime, Tommy, even Sam on rare occasions, is the Quackity he wants to go down in history, the version of himself he wants to have been. The issue is that he’s seemingly not even remotely interested in actually behaving like that version of himself. The legacy monologue (and honestly huge chunks of the LN series) is so revealing because it’s an act. Q is crafting the story of himself, but he’s all tell and no show - because showing would require him to, yknow, change his behavior.

warning: since english is not my native language, my expressions and vocabulary are pretty much primitive and the mistakes are possible.

so, answering your question about my ocs... to be honest i feel a bit awkward whenever it comes to talking about my characters and their stories due to my lack of storytelling skills and me never being sure about my ideas.

but my nervous nature doesn't stop my brain from generating more and more characters and settings, so, actually for now i have a vast amount of some imaginary people living in my cerebral hemispheres rent free😃😃😃 i just don't talk much about them publicly

basically. i have a BUNCH of original characters whose stories take place in different and separated from each other settings/countries/timelines and they (almost) don't interact.

nevertheless all these stories are situated on an Earth type planet. it's not the Earth we know, but they both share resembling geographical and climate zones for example. also this planet has an alternative history and continent placement. i call this planet Planet B (because i always thought the earthlings colonized this planet in the past, thousands and thousands years ago, as a result of the Earth becoming inappropriate for living anymore)

since you mentioned my paper dolls (Stelliah Gassollinne, Gunadimme Rustich, Anth-Rax, Measlebay..), i'll ramble on a bit about the characters of this one setting. for now i call it «LIMB» which goes for «Lame In Magic Bay» (in original: «ЛИМБ=Лучший Из Миров Буки» , which actually translates as «the best world of Lame» , but in this translation the abbreviation LIMB is just ruined, so i adapted it a bit for the english)

some basic info: the main plot occurs in a town named Lame-Ray (in original: «Миножье», which literally means «the lamprey place»). the town stands on the river and it was found around the ancient «meteorite» which fell on earth thousands years ago. actually this impact event created the river itself by destroying the surface and as a result releasing subterranean river. so the water/river/fish theme is significant to the plot.

i really like the dualism in the translated version of Lame-Ray name, because the word «ray» refers to «ray-finned fish» and «a beam of light» meanings at the same time, so, the phrase «lame ray» can be understood as «an injured fish fin» and also as «a dim light». the light/the stars motif has its own role in the plot as well as the water. and also «Lame-Ray» kinda looks like the word «Lamprey», lol

ancient Lame-Ray people worshipped some «magic fish» called Lamprey, who, as they said, could relieve people from all pain and suffering forever. in fact, the whole life of the ancient Lame-Rayans was circling around their cult of Lamprey - the traditions, the lifestyle, the food, everything. later the Lame-Ray settlement was colonized and almost all of their culture was lost. nevertheless nowadays no one ever saw any evidence of the existence of this fish creature. but there are people out there who strongly believe the Lamprey is real and so is its power. remember how earlier i put the word «meteorite» in brackets? sorta spoiler: actually it's not quite meteorite. (that's all for now because i don't wanna dive into the deeper lore part in this post because it's already too big)

nearby the river there's also two countries - Aldetha (in original: Альдета) and Blaanna (in original: Блаанна).

historicaly the whole river belongs to Aldetha and is controlled by it, and so is the Lame-Ray, since the town is placed on the river.

Gunadimme and Stelliah.

Aldetha is the 'red triangle' country. the name comes from the anagram of the word «Delta» (Δ), i just put the extra letters for the harmony. funny fact: Aldetha is placed in the river's delta.

Blaanna is the 'inverted blue triangle' country. its name comes from the anagram of the word «Nabla» (∇), which is literally the reverse of delta symbol. i also added the extra letters in it so it looks more elegant.

there's no planes in Aldetha.

Aldetha is small closed authoritarian/dictatorship country. the rights and freedoms of its citizens are limited, almost every aspect of their lives is controlled by the government. stupid and absurd laws and propaganda flourish. the ideas of traditional family is generously encouraged by the state. the society approves conformity.

Swam-Sam and Fenny. there's also no color photography in Aldetha. the equipment for taking pictures is pretty rare and even the black&white photos are of bad grainy quality.

TV news from Blaanna.

Blaanna is bigger and more free, open-minded and technologically modern place. Blaanna develop international relations enthusiastically. all kinds of freedoms are available there, people can travel around the world, do business, marry who they love and express themselves in any form of art. individuality of a person is encouraged.

«A» is fell. «B» is disappeared.

since ancient times Aldetha and Blaanna are sort of rivals, who despite their differences share the same goal after all - the creation of a perfect state where everyone would be happy and contented, no grief and no suffering.

but ironically people are unhappy in both Aldetha and Blaanna. these places are supposed to be the distorted reflection of each other - no matter how you rotate the triangle, it will keep its three angles.

(btw i like calling Aldetha and Blaanna 'Country A' and 'Country B' because it's funny, also i like associating them with the A-side and B-side of a vinyl record. the music is also one of the most important themes in this setting, you know.. water/sound waves..)

Samuel 'Swam-Sam' Wade (in original: Павел 'Плавуша' Брод) [he/him] and his family (mom, dad and older brother) used to be Aldethians, but at some point will become Lame-Rayans.

(of course there are another LIMB characters. i didn't draw them much so i never showed them here, but one day i will)

i have to stress that this setting has deep many-layered lore and it's pretty complicated. there are many characters of different age with their own stories, issues and motivations. even though being different, the characters share some of motives and aspects, they reflect one another, make parallels and experience all sorts of relations... but at the same time being totally different towards another.

Measlebay thinking about his friends, Anth-Rax and Qusha.

and i think it's the main theme of LIMB - being on the edge of contrasts, on the terminator between dark and light of human nature and the world around, that's why i consider all my characters as morally grey (at least they are in my vision). moreover, if i keep discussing, some of my characters suffer from black&white splitting of themselves and their closed ones. its hard and sometimes even impossible for them to see themselves as a whole valuable person (they think about themselves either bad or good, either the best or the worst, as if there's no something in between in their perception), and some of them just have no idea who they are. this duality goes hand in hand with the water theme of LIMB, since the water reflects things almost like a mirror, but not quite; you can see anything in the water, but in fact it's just a fundamental transparent simple liquid that builds the life itself.

important: this setting is just brainstorming thing at the moment, everything is vague and changes as new ideas and thoughts come to me. anyways so far i think the story will be focused on a bunch of children (who are already mentioned Anth-Rax, Measlebay, Qusha, etc) who live in modern Lame-Ray. they will eventually find out that the legends about Lamprey are actually true.

hello I come to you with a request. I watched x men 97 recently and was saddened by how little time the whole magneto in charge of the x men storyline got and I know he does this longer in the comics (I can't say why but the phrase "its seven in the morning max..." lives rent free in my brain) so I wanted to ask if you have any recommendation for comics from that era / any recommendations for comics with mister magnet-os because I want to get into x men comics but comics as always are so daunting

It is my great pleasure to answer this!!

Disclaimer 1, I am still going through a lot of the issues of this era but I will try my best to make it as clear a guide as I can for you!

Disclaimer 2, Headmaster of the school and leader of the X-Men are quite different positions that they kind of fused together in the 97 show so I do want to make it clear that magneto in the "seven in the morning" era is headmaster of the school, teaching young kids, while Storm is leading the X-men team and Scott is leading the X-factor team, so with that said:

Magneto's teacher arc starts in uncanny X-Men issues 199 and 200 (iconic issues containing the trial of magneto that was adapted in the show!) And then he is headmaster of the school in the book "The new mutants" by Chris Clermont, from issue 35 to issue 75. It is A LOT I admit and he gets a more minor place considering the book is about the kickass young class of new mutants that he's teaching. But it is worth checking out! Many consider this to kind of be peak magneto because.... he's trying so hard to be a good teacher and to handle all these kids and it's very humanizing for him!

I mean look at him and his 8 kids!

Now, how to get into Magneto overall? Let's get into it:

I believe it is impossible to get into Magneto without reading his ultimate origin story, Magneto: Testament by Greg Pack. It is a quick intro, it barely features his powers (not an action comic) and it is a very very emotional read. I consider it essential magneto reading!

Next up: Two One shots if you want to get a quick primer on the character pre moral arc instead of sitting through his few appearances in the Stan Lee comics:

A classic one: X-Men: God Loves, Men Kills by Chris Claremont. It is an iconic comic book one shot that can be read out of continuity just to see what his deal is when he's not necessarily on the side of the X-Men but fighting for his own ideals! It's overall a brilliant comic book!

If you want a more recent retelling of the first appearances of magneto you HAVE to read X-Men Mythos that retells magneto's major first appearance in the 60s in quite a beautiful and amazing way! It also has an absolutely insane magneto scene that is very memorable! (So this would "chronologically" come before God loves men Kills)

Now for his switch from cartoon villain of the 60s/early 70s to complex guy in the 80s, read the issues 149 and 150 from the run Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont. This is THE pivotal moment for "good guy" Magneto

(know that after issue 150, somehow he falls in the ocean from asteroid M, is rescued from a shark attack by Scott's girlfriend Lee Forester. They have a quick relationship where he struggled with his change of morals then he comes to the new mutants)

if you want to continue chronologically you read the issues 199 and 200 that I recommended at the start then go to the new mutants book I talked about earlier!

If you want MORE MODERN comics, then I advise you get right into what's happening at the moment!

House of X powers of X are two series that intertwine (you'll easily find them in the right order) by the same writer, Jonathan hickman!

It serves as a status quo change/relaunch of the X-Men universe. Magneto plays a big part of the story as he is directly involved in building a mutant nation. I'd say it's a bold but quite functional intro to X-Men comics!

Then he appears as a major character in the GREAT series X-Men Red by Al Ewing alongside Storm, a character that meant a lot to him in the 80s, so it's really nice to see again.

In this he is- epic, depressed, suicidal, sassy, it's great magneto stuff! This series is widely regarded as the best X-Men comic out right now!

So I hope that the writers won't forget about them as a deeply written characters and they'll have the third and probably the final wave of development.

OK, I know I am delusional and fixated on the RE universe right now, but just listen for a second -

There's so much to say in just these two phrases alone that it makes my brain go haywire and I literally cannot form a coherent thought.

"A hundred will give their lives so that just one may live." A phrase that justifies the deaths of others for the sake of one, that the sacrifices are worth it, that they are needed, that the ends justify the means.

"You try to save one person; a hundred others die." A phrase that laments the death of others in the pursuit of saving one, of a cost too high to pay, of an unfair world, a world that Leon resents so deeply.

There's just so much to say here regarding individual character struggles, their wants and ideals, and their motifs. In particular, Ada's character; this is where it becomes so hard for me to word because I just simultaneously love/hate the subtlety to Ada's character. I love it because her internal struggles with morality are so deep, that it really takes effort to notice them, and it makes her dilemma just that much more relatable/believable. There's just so much unspoken depth, but I hate this subtlety because of how her actions -- something so much more to the fore-front of her character -- overshadow this conflict, and people are just so quick to discard her because of this.

Leon and his words are living rent free in Ada's head, and this near word for word parallel between his words and Wesker's definitely stuck out to her in the moment, especially when Leon's words were a prelude to the question he had for her in the boat scene, "Have you changed?" A question that was no doubt replaying in Ada's head when she made the choice to change the helicopter's course, and she even looks down at Leon in the sea afterwards, as if finally answering his question.

AND THEN WE GET INTO LEON'S CHARACTER, OF CHANGE, OF TRYING TO DO WHATS RIGHT IN A WORLD FULL OF WRONG, OF SELF-SACRIFICE AND HIS OWN INNER STRUGGLES AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MY HEAD HURTS.

Remember my Planet of The Disney Apes fanfic/series from a few years ago? Well, here’s some thoughts that have been roaming around rent-free in my head lately!

Colonel McCullough:

- Still mad that Disney now owns the franchise but shows it by making fun of Disney and Mickey Mouse (referring to him as ‘exaggerated rat’).

- Still resentful at living with and around the very apes he fought, killed or enslaved, but loves to troll and pester them.

- Mostly just an a$$hole who won’t shut up about what happened in War or that Kingdom better not ‘f*ck anything up’.

- Hates Caesar but also wants to impress him…Yeah, he’s obsessed.

- We don’t talk about the ‘party incident’…(go check out @klushund’s Disney Apes fic series on AO3!)

Caesar:

- Tired, numb, doesn’t give a sh!t anymore, just goes with the flow

- But first, coffee.

- Nothing surprises him anymore…Except maybe the lengths McCullough will go to annoy the apes or the times when Preacher accidentally roasts the Colonel.

- Legit doesn’t care that Kingdom exists “I’m dead anyway”.

- Reluctant peacekeeper but still a force to be reckon with!

Preacher:

- Still follows the Colonel but has moved on since War.

- Is more than happy to just have cookies with apes for eternity if it means no more fighting or chaos.

- Stuck in the middle when Caesar and McCullough fight. Old habits die hard.

- He both fears and respects McCullough. It’s very complicated!

- Mostly clueless. He’s more naive than evil.

- Somehow always knows where to find the tv remote ‘check the fridge/microwave/laundry room!’

- All he wants to do is build a pillow fort. He never got to do that before. Just once would be enough!

Red:

- Eye roll.

- Petty. Blunt. Smarta$$ jerk.

- Ignores the Colonel’s rants but will watch him and Caesar argue.

- Heavy metal, still has his gun somewhere in his room. Spray paints various ‘I hate Caesar’ and ‘Donkey was here’ on the walls.

- The ape you call when you watch a scary movie to get ideas for how to get back at your enemies or (according to Winter) to kill a spider or creepy crawly in your room.

- Loves stirring the pot by making the Colonel and Caesar sound like fools to the other.

Bonus! Bad Ape:

- ‘Best Day Ever’ song from SpongeBob.

- Has created a whole lore with his plush alligator and the various toys in his toy chest.

- Rocket bakes the cookies for Bad Ape’s tea parties. They’re buddies now!

- ‘Oh no!’ Is still his go-to phrase whenever anything goes wrong.

- Sometimes takes things a little too literally.

- Bad Ape somehow has the power to befriend or be on good terms with everyone around him-even McCullough tolerates him to some degree!

One more thing: I don’t know why it’s Caesar, Red, Preacher and McCullough my brain goes to now when thinking about this AU but I think it has something to do with that scene of them together in the Colonel’s office(?).

Like imagine The Odd Couple but with Caesar and McCullough, mixed with Drake and Josh but with Preacher and Red lol.

whenever a character realises that something was done for them that speaks to being known to their core... that "oh" moment of figuring out they were serviced in a very specific way to them that they hadn't known someone would do for them or that they even knew they wanted that themselves. yeah. bonus points if the character that did them that favour tried to hide it so that they would never know. augh.

i think i come up with lovely turn of phrases sometimes! sometimes they're short and sweet ("In matters of loss, Megumi is over-prepared.") and sometimes they're more drawn out analogies (like my fic "a catalog of non-definitive acts"). i adore seeing which phrases or metaphors captures people's attention and live in their brain rent-free. it feels like for a moment in time, we're both experiencing the same wonder or heartache over something that was previously inarticulate. it's everything!

Hey, just in my break at qork and couldn't stop thinking of the Avian trio and the other hybrids in the over-city. I wonder how everybody would act around phrases like "Taken under their wing," and "Birds of a feather." Or other phrases that some may get anxious about that relate to shaared hybrid features or maybe use as an inside joke or other specific feelings about those types of phrases.

I literally love your writings so much, they live in my head rent free aand have started to become bothersome to the point to satiate my brain I juggle rereading them with tasks like wrapping presents and watching TV. One time I was doodling the under-city of my mind whilst watching Impulse's phasmophobia VOD. I cannot drae so it was awful but it got my rough mental image out a lil bit. Like a sort of 'nudge nudge, wink wink' and I could also see some of our more anxious friends of the AU cough cough Jimmy cough cough having a bit of a spook if they were said by people who didn't know the secret.
