Yeah, I need to play a happier jrpg next...

#this is Mem's life #the writing is good #but three games in a row with a depressing ending is a bit much #especially considering all of these are easily 100 hours of gameplay the way I do things #and the next game is apparently a downer too #maybe I'll switch over to Tales #vesperia is always a good comfort play #also I picked up the ffxiii games a while back and completely forgot about them #heard mixed reviews on those though and I skipped the third gen console #in its heyday anyway #might see if I can finagle tales of the abyss again too #ooooh I could try the psx English patch of phantasia on my ps3 #that might take some doing though #Eternia is also a comfort fave #hm...#anyway still have to properly finish cold steel first though #but yeah mental health would probably appreciate a happy game after that #tragedy of Knowing is getting a bit much

Here is the finished version of my smaller & simplified Hierophant embroidery design! It measures 3.5 inches wide rather than 6.25 like my larger and more complex pattern, and I tried a different color palette for the background to bring it closer to the original card. It's still not perfect but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

This pattern takes a lot less time than the bigger one, so is more approachable. Both these patterns and my other designs will be available in my new etsy store as I finish writing out instructions and uploading them :)

This finished piece will also be for sale for anyone interested, and I am taking limited embroidery commissions for now.

Call me homophobic, but I don't actually think it's great representation to stick a complex, dynamic, newly-realized bisexual character permanently with a flat, boring, underdeveloped love interest just because that was the first guy who showed interest.

#in my hater era #like what you like #but goddamn #the argument that this is somehow outstanding queer representation is baffling #they have had 13 episodes to DO something with this character and they have chosen not to #no development anywhere #even though they literally brought him back so there is built-in background ripe for the picking #and yet #anti bucktommy #anti tommy kinard #the saddest part is #i don't even hate him #he's not important enough to hate #there is just absolutely nothing to him #and that's sad because whether or not he was intended to be long-term or endgame #the writers are better than this and the character SHOULD have SOME development #like why are we all swooning over 911 shoehorning in a returning character to tell a bi buck story #but treating that character like the most expendable love interest in history #i don't like him but actually i think queer characters #and especially ones who are part of such a major later-in-life bisexual realization storyline for a beloved main #deserve a little more respect than what 911 has been giving him #anyway #might delete later i don't know #also i need to stop looking at the 911 subreddit #worst takes i've ever seen that place is a cesspool

not enough discussion about the gavins' complicated relationship with feminine-coded/beauty products, i don't think.

#for klavier because it's not as direct it's about how we never see him actually wearing lipstick? even though apollo literally attends #a concert of his which is where you'd most expect him to wear makeup. but apparently he just doesnt. or at least not in public #klavier gavin #kristoph gavin #i feel like there are several ways you can read into it. the misogyny/toxic masculinity one is really obvious clearly with kristoph's #singling out of men specifically and klavier's (probably accidental?) condescending manner of calling women 'fraulein' plus his general #mildly patronising attitude towards many of the women in the game (also probably unintentional)#(i think he's trying to be charming and it's coming off wrong to some of them. like ema. and me.)#but i feel like there's also maybe an element of... inherent perfecfionism to it? like both of these products are conventionally beautifyin #products and kristoph while he is open to showing people he uses nail polish specifically chooses one that's clear and missable unless you #see him apply it. he also feels the need to justify his use of it and specifically spell it out as something he chooses to do rather than #needs to do even though duh. that should be obvious.#idk there's just something about his seeming need to take control of that narrative that i find interesting. his need to spin it into a #'there's nothing wrong with my nails but I had the foresight to see that even the smallest parts of my appearance should be kept immaculate #and it's a choice i'm making to refine an already adequate part of my personage /not/ to cover some unsightly defect.' the need to emphasis #that specifically is so. hm. and with klavier i could see it being a case of him liking makeup liking the pops of colour yet being unwillin #to admit to it because he's afraid that other people might see it as him being dissatisfied with his own appearance regardless of if he is #or isn't. or even just perceiving colourful makeup as being unseemly because it's so overt and unnatural.#like i can see this as them both viewing 'real' beauty to be that which is inherent to a person and seemingly effortless #thus somehow negating the beauty which one achieves through cosmetics or other external means.#and if you want to use external means to achieve beauty or neatness or whatever then your only valid options are those which blend into you #natural state. like clear nail polish. or really awful spray tan.#i feel like klavier's less confined by these ideas (if they hold merit at all) considering he actually owns coloured lipstick and he wears #jewellery (admittedly quite 'masculine' jewellery no gems or pearls or anything like that but jewellery nonetheless) but i think it just #makes it more interesting that he doesnt seem quite able to cross the line anyway. like it's that ingrained into his system.#anyway that's all i've got. you guys should tell me what you think too #annotations

It’s Gangle!

I’ve been trying to get a sense for how to draw all the characters and Gangle seemed intimidating to draw at first, but I think she might end up being fun to paint after working on this piece!

I enjoy the implication in Origins that Zevran isn't a very good fighter when we meet him and then after Origins he was utterly terrorizing the Crows. All the levels he gained in the Warden's party actually made him a canonically, significantly more dangerous fighter than he was when the Warden met him.

#the game does do a fun job of justifying why the companions are - while much more capable than the average peasant - low level at first #Alistair has only been a Warden like 6 months and didn't finish Templar training before that #Morrigan has powerful magic but has been isolated in the wilds with her much more powerful mother to take care of things #Sten is a trained warrior but he was nearly killed. still managed to murder a family. then spent 20-30 days in a cage with no food or water #Leliana is a skilled Bard but she could either be rusty from hiding out in a cloister for a while or hiding some of her skills #Wynne is a senior enchanter and by the time you can actually recruit her you're probably at least like lvl 6 or 7 #so she's no pushover when you actually see her do stuff. and could be even stronger if she didn't just recover from dying #Oghren is usually prooobably the last recruited bc Orzammar is meant to bounce low level players off and send them elsewhere #he is the companion most likely to be met at higher levels so it makes sense that he's an ass-kickin warrior when you meet him #though again he might be a little weaker if you came earlier and the fact that he's been banned for a while from fighting #and has instead just been sitting around getting wasted accounts for that #radio chatter

Every time I read it, I'm amused by Elizabeth getting so distracted by Caroline Bingley's uhhh objectively enthralling attempts to flirt with Darcy that she (Elizabeth) stops reading to listen to them. And I do think it's kind of hilarious that the interaction between them absolutely confirms her opinion of not only Caroline but Darcy, even though he's not really doing anything other than getting annoyed at being continually interrupted while trying to write a letter to his sister.

#few darcy moments more relatable than being interrupted over and over by someone with zero real respect for you or what you're doing #and honestly the fact that these interruptions are someone he's not into aggressively ignoring his disinterest to hit on him over and over?#relatable as well! modern caroline would probably keep making him take off his earbuds to respond to some inane random remark #anghraine babbles #deep blogging #lady anne blogging #caroline bingley #austen blogging #elizabeth bennet #fitzwilliam darcy #also though i think elizabeth's attention screeching to a halt because there might be an occasion for polishing her grudge /is/ funny #the funniest is probably her conversation about wickham in which she's like #'you're so pretty... and never prettier than when you're talking about how terrible darcy is. i'm SO interested.'
